The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently stalled with the battery, oil pressure, and check engine warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer but was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was informed of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 210,000.

THE DEALER CLEANED THE THROTTLE BOTTLE AND REPROGRAMMED THE PCM; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE DEALER, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AGAIN. ON MY 2006 FREESTYLE, THAT I PURCHASED ON 4/01/2014 FROM NORTHWAY MOTOR CAR IN LATHAM, NY,IT SUDDENLY JERKED FORWARD AND SHUT OFF TODAY. UPON TRYING TO RESTART THE VEHICLE RAN ON AN UNSTABLE IDLE AND BOTH MY SERVICE ENGINE AND ENGINE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH. THE FREESTYLE WOULD NOT MOVE, UPON PUTTING IT INTO GEAR IT RAN LOW IDLE AND THEN SHUT DOWN. ONCE MY LOCAL GARAGE RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST IT REFERENCED THE THROTTLE BODY BEING BAD?? SO NOW LOOKING UP RECALLS I FIND NATSA ACTION NUMBER :PE11018. OF COURSE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM 12N03 IS ONLY TO 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. GREAT !!! I NOW HAVE 180,100 MILES AND A LOAN FOR STILL OVER $3000. I AM UNDER THE 10 YEAR MARK BUT OVER THE MILAGE, DESPITE BUYING THIS FROM A MAJOR CAR DEALER WHO COULD HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED BEFORE SELLING IT TO ME WHEN IT ONLY HAD 148,322MILES !!!! I AM STUCK WITH LOOKING AT A VEHICLE THAT DOESNT RUN AND WONT UNTILL I SHELL OUT OVER $750 FOR PARTS AND LABOR ON A NATSA ACTION THAT SHOULD STILL BE COVERED !! THE FREESTYLE CUT OUT ON THE INTERSTATE. LUCKILY IT WAS IN THE BREAKDOWN LANE AND NO CARS WERE COMING. AN 8 YEAR OLD WAS IN THE CAR AS WELL. AFTER SPENDING $1200 ON REPAIRS THE FREESTYLE STILL LEAKS, AND IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH CUTTING OUT, LEAKING INTO THE CAR AND ALL THE LIGHTS COMING ON. WE HAVE SPENT OVER $1200 TO FIX, AND THE CAR STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS US TO SPEND ANOTHER $1000, AND THEY CAN NOT GUARANTEE THAT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM, AS ANOTHER FREESTYLE HERE IN BOONE HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUES. *TR

AFTER PARKING MY FIRST FREESTYLE UNTIL REPAIRS CAN BE MADE, THIS FREESTYLE (NOW BEING REPORTED) HAS BECOME THE MAJOR TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE OF THE HOUSEHOLD. NOW THIS VEHICLE HAS BEGUN SURGING IN RPMS AND 'LUNGING' WHENEVER THE BRAKE IS RELEASED. THIS OCCURRENCE WAS IN 95 DEGREE WEATHER WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER RUNNING. SINCE I HAVEN'T AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE FIRST VEHICLE I REPORTED ON 6/28/12 (A RECENT PURCHASE), I HAVE ORDERED AN ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY W/TPS (NON-HEATED WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY A FORD SUPERCESSION) AND WILL ATTEMPT TO REPLACE IT MYSELF AS A COST SAVINGS MEASURE. SINCE FILING MY ISSUE I'VE FOUND VIA THE INTERNET THAT OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM HAVE PAID UPWARD OF $1,200.00 TO HAVE THIS WORK PERFORMED. AFTER ORDERING MY PARTS I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS PARTICULAR THROTTLE BODY WAS INSTALLED ON 2005-2007 FORD FREESTYLES AS WELL AS THEIR FORD FIVE HUNDRED (OF WHICH I ALSO OWN A 2007 MODEL YEAR OF WITH APPROX 20K MILES). IS THERE ANY TRUTH TO THE RUMOR THAT BAD LUCK ALWAYS COMES IN THREE'S? I CERTAINLY HOPE NOT!! AS OF EARLIER THIS MORNING (7/01/12), WITH A COOL TEMPERATURE OF 75 DEGREES F., THIS DEFECT DID NOT RE-OCCUR, BUT MY OTHER VEHICLE ALSO BEGAN TO 'ACT UP' AS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT EVENTUALLY WOULDN'T GO AWAY. *TR

CAR SURGES WHEN CHANGING GEARS. PROBLEM WORSE WITH FAN CONTROLS ON. RPM'S STAY ABOVE NORMAL IDLE (750-800) MOST OF THE TIME. CAR WILL ACCELERATE WITHOUT USING GAS PEDDLE AT TIMES. MUST KEEP A CONSTANT VIGILANCE WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. WENT THROUGH ALL THE BASIC FIXES (MAINLY CLEANING OF THROTTLE LINKAGE AND MODULE) . WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS REPLACED ($1000+). THIS MODULE IS MOUNTED ON TOP OF THE ENGINE-WHY? THIS IS NOT A UNIQUE PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. MANY, MANY, MANY PEOPLE WITH FORD FREESTYLES HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS MODULE REPLACED AND THAT EITHER DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM OR IT WAS A TEMPORARY FIX. I BELIEVE IT IS A FORD ENGINEERING DESIGN FLAW. DID NOT FIX THE VEHICLE. BOUGHT ANOTHER CAR AND GOT RID OF THIS SAFETY HAZARD. *JS

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE A DEALER PERFORM THE DIAGNOSTIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
