DRIVING WEST ON THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE COMING FROM THE JERSEY SHORE DOING 74 MILES PER HOUR IN THE LEFT LANE WHEN SUDDENLY. I FEEL A SHIFT IN MY CAR AND MY SPEEDOMETER STARTS DROPPING, MY FOOT IS ON THE GAS PEDAL AND IT'S NOT MAKING A DIFFERENCE. 3 KIDS IN THE BACKSEAT ARE ASLEEP THANKFULLY. AS THAT HAPPENS A WRENCH LIGHT APPEARS ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL. I NOW HAVE ZERO ACCELERATION POWER ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND NEED TO GET OVER 3 LANES TO THE SHOULDER. I PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND DRIFT OVER WITH A POUNDING HEART THAT I AM MY KIDS ARE ABOUT TO DIE. LUCKILY I WAS FORTUNATE TO MAKE IT TO THE SHOULDER. NOW I'M IN A SITUATION WHERE I AM ON THE SHOULDER OF A HIGHWAY WITH KIDS IN THE CAR AND NOT A CLUE IN THE WORLD OF WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. I LOOK AT MY MANUAL TO SEE WHAT THE WRENCH LIGHT INDICATOR MEANS AND IT SAYS THROTTLE CONTROL / TRANSMISSION CONTACT YOUR AUTHORIZED DEALER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.IT'S A SUNDAY CAN'T DO THAT. I AM ABLE TO GET SOMEONE TO PICK US UP OFF OF THE TURNPIKE WITH 3 LITTLE KIDS AND GET IT TOWED. THE FORD DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT I NEED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. I AM NOT SURE HOW THIS IS NOT A SAFETY RECALL ISSUE, THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF IS THAT ME AND MY KIDS DID NOT DIE. I'M ASSUMING THAT IS THE ONLY WAY SOMETHING LINE THIS IS TAKEN SERIOUSLY. PLEASE PUT YOURSELF IN MY SITUATION WITH YOUR KIDS IN THE BACK ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND TELL ME HOW YOU WOULD FEEL? THIS REALLY NEEDS A SERIOUS AND QUICK LOOKING INTO.
ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 70MPH (SPEED LIMIT), USING CRUISE CONTROL. ALL ACCELERATION CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. HAD TO MANEUVER ACROSS HIGHWAY, THROUGH ACTIVE TRAFFIC, TO SHOULDER TO TURN OFF THE CAR. WAITED FOR A FEW MINUTES AND SUCCESSFULLY RESTARTED. GOT HOME AND HAD TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T ACCELERATE PAST 40MPH.
GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT SPEED, CAR MAKES NOISE THEN LOSSES ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, WRENCH WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE HAPPEN ON BUSY STREET. PULL OVER, TURN MOTOR OFF, RESTART THE CAR AND NO WRENCH LIGHT, CAR CAN GO WITHOUT PROBLEM. HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS.
TRAVELLING ON HIGHWAY AT STEADY CRUISING SPEED. ROAD WAS FLAT AND STRAIGHT. THROTTLE BODY FAILED SUDDENLY AND LEFT ME WITHOUT ANY ACCELERATION ABILITY. HAD TO PULL OFF TO SIDE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY WITHOUT RESPONSIVE GAS PEDAL AND CAR DECELERATING QUICKLY.
WENT TO PASS A SLOW MOVING VEHICLE AND WHEN GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED THE VEHICLE RESPONDED WITH NO POWER, SHUDDERED, AND STALLED. HAD TOWED TO A LOCAL TRUSTED MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE A SPECIFIC PROBLEM BECAUSE THE HE WAS GETTING "CRAZY PROBLEM CODES". VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A FORD DEALER WHO DISCOVERED THE COILS WERE DESTROYED DUE TO A PCM FAILURE. COILS AND PCM REPLACED AT THE COST OF $2,200. DRIVING HOME AFTER VEHICLE WAS "REPAIRED" CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALERSHIP, DIAGNOSED A CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE. CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED DUE TO THE PCM/COIL FAILURE. VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS EMISSIONS INSPECTION UNTIL CONVERTER IS REPAIRED/REPLACED AT AN ADDITIONAL COST OF $2,000+. DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT NOTHING COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO PREVENT THE PCM/COIL FAILED, IT "JUST HAPPENED". BASIC RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS HAPPENS WITH ENOUGH FREQUENCY THAT FORD MUST BE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE 2007 FORD FUSION V6 AWD. *TR
VEHICLE WAS MISSING, THOUGHT IT WAS PLUGS OR NEEDED TUNEUP. MECHANIC SAID 2 COILS WERE BURNT OUT AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT ALONG WITH PLUGS. HAD TWO REPLACED AND 6 PLUGS REPLACED. THE NEXT WEEK SAME PROBLEM, TOOK BACK TO MECHANIC, SAID ANOTHER COIL BURNT OUT, CHECKED COMPUTER AND SAID DEALER WOULD NEED TO LOOK AT PROBLEM, MAY BE AN ONBOARD COMPUTER ISSUE CALLED PCM. RESULT: FORD DEALER DX COMPUTER ISSUE,CALLING FOR REPLACEMENT AND ALSO ALL COILS AND PLUGS. TOTAL COST OF MECHANICS AND DEALER... $581 PLUS 2015= 2596. NO PROBLEMS SINCE, BUT WAS WARNED THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN BY DEALER, AND THAT THIS WOULD BE WARRANTIED. NOT SURE IF THAT IS TRUE. DEALER WOULD NOT ADMIT TO ANY PROBLEMS WITH OTHER FUSIONS, NOR WOULD REGIONAL FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. WILL KEEP CAR FOR A YEAR OR SO AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS, MOST LIKELY TRADING WITHIN THE NEXT TWO YEARS. DONT WANT THAT SAME PROBLEM TO HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR
DRIVING 60-70 MPH DOWN AN INTERSTATE AND CAR LOSES TOTAL ACCELERATION CONTROL. YOU CAN PUT THE GAS TO THE FLOOR AND NOTHING HAPPENS. RPM DOESN'T MOVE AND NO ACCELERATION. HAVE TO COAST OFF THE INTERSTATE. THOUGHT IT WAS THE GAS, PUT NEW GAS IN THE CAR. WENT TO TN ON FRIDAY HAD TO "COAST" OVER TO THE SHOULDER 3 TIMES. CAME HOME YESTERDAY HAD TO PULL OVER 6 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. SCARY SCARY SCARY!!!!! WILL NOT DRIVE MY CAR AGAIN UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN MY SIDE STREET (25MPH RESIDENTIAL ROAD) WHEN THE ENGINE BEGAN TO LAG. IT EVENTUALLY STALLED TO WHERE I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET. VEHICLE TURNED OFF AND WOULD NOT START. IT WOULD TURNOVER BUT WOULD BEGAN TO IDLE ERRATICALLY AND WOULD SHUT OFF WITHIN 5-15 SECONDS. I TRIED A FEW TROUBLE SHOOTING TECHNIQUES BUT EVENTUALLY GAVE UP AND TOOK IT TO AN AUTO SHOP. THEY CONNECTED THE CODE READER AND FOUND 3 DIFFERENT FAULTS WITH THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. I WAS TOLD THAT THESE ARE ON BACK ORDER UNTIL JUNE 18TH. *TR
DOING APPROX. 55 MPH WHEN VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED. COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT. TURNED CAR OFF, WAITED AND RESTARTED IT. IT RAN FINE AFTER THAT BUT I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER WHO SAID IT NEEDED A THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT AT A SIGNIFICANT COST TO ME. SINCE I WAS ON A HIGHWAY IN TRAFFIC AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT OTHER VEHICLES WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE WITH DECELERATION. I FEEL THAT FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
