TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.
BRAKES ARE SPONGY AND GOES DOWN TO THE FLOOR. HAVE TO PUMP BRAKES HARD TO STOP CAR. HAD NEW BRAKES PUT ON AND IT DID NOT HELP THE PROBLEM. THE BRAKE PROBLEM HAVE ALL THE ISSUES DESCRIBED ON THE INTERNET POINTING TO AN ABS BRAKING PROBLEM. THIS THE FIFTH MAJOR PROBLEM I HAD WITH THIS CAR.
THE LIGHT HAS COME ON THAT SIGNIFIES "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT". THE WHEEL STIFFENS UP AND THE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER STEERING. IT STARTS AS SOON AS THE IGNITION IS STARTED. THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V384000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PART WAS AVAILABLE, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEN FOR SIX MONTHS AND BECAME TOTALLY INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES HAVE RUSTED OUT, THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS GO DOWN TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED, AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL OIL ODOR COMING FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED ELDER FORD (9560 N FLORIDA AVE, TAMPA, FL 33612, (813) 498-0779), BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,196.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHROME CAP COVER OVER THE LUG NUTS EXPANDED ON ALL FOUR TIRES. AS A RESULT, THE LUG NUTS WERE DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE LUG NUTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
WHILE DRIVING LOST POWER STEERING AND GOT POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT CODE
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V384000 (AIR BAGS). THE DEALER (FREMONT FORD, 885 HAGERTY DR, FREMONT, OH 43420, 800-354-2220) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
THE POWER STEERING ON THE FORD FUSION 2010 WENT OUT AND WHILE PARKED AND THE STEERING WAS LOCKED. THE STEERING WHEEL STOPPED MOVING TOTALLY. THEN IT CAME BACK FOR A LITTLE AND WENT OUT AGAIN.
POWER STEERING FAILED. MY CAR NOW HAS AROUND 182,000 MILES. 3 WEEKS AGO I STARED HAVING ISSUES WITH THE POWER STEERING LOCKING UP WHEN STARING MY CAR ON NOV 28TH. I TURNED THE KEY OFF AND I STARTED THE CAR WITH ALL WORKING OK. BUT SOMETHING SEEMS WILL GO WRONG SOON AND NEED REPAIRS A FORD DEALER RAN A TEST. TEST RESULTS FROM MY FORD DEALER SHOWED I NEED A NEW POWER STEERING SYSTEM COSTING ME AROUND $1,800. I UNDERSTAND FORD RECALLED 2011 FUSIONS INCLUDING THOSE BUILT IN SEPT OF 2010. BUT NOT ANY 2010 FUSIONS BUILT EARLIER THAT SAME YEAR.
MY 2010 FORD FUSION'S BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY BEGAN GETTING SPONGY A FEW MONTHS AGO AND REMAINED LIKE THAT INDEFINITELY. THE PEDAL WOULD HAVE TO BE DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR FOR BRAKING PRESSURE TO KICK IN. I WAS DRIVING IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD ONE ONE DAY GOING ABOUT 20MPH AND THE BRAKES BECAME COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE AFTER MULTIPLE DEPRESSES TO SLOW FOR A SPEED BUMP. I ENDED UP STOPPING THE CAR WITH THE HAND BRAKE. THIS WAS ON NOVEMBER 28TH 2018. THE BRAKES HAVEN'T WORKED SINCE, I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND THEY REPLACED MY BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND BLED THE SYSTEM. THAT DID NOTHING. AFTER FURTHER ANALYSIS THEY CONCLUDED IT'S THE ABS ASSEMBLY THAT HAS FAILED - TOLD ME THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT THAT AS THE ABS MODULE CAN ONLY BE PROGRAMMED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. I WENT IN TO GET A QUOTE, THE NEEDED ABS COMPONENTS WILL RUN ME APPROXIMATELY $1800 NOT INCLUDING LABOR COSTS. OUTRAGEOUS. I'M A COLLEGE STUDENT AND TO TOP IT ALL OF I LOST MY PART-TIME JOB I HAD DUE TO NOT HAVING A CAR TO GO TO WORK. PLEASE IS THEIR SOMETHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS?
I TURNED MY CAR ON AND I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL, NOTIFICATION LIT UP STATING "POWER STEERING FAULT". I HAD THE POWER STEERING FLUID CHECKED AND IT WAS NOT THE ISSUE. AFTER DOING RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS IS YET AGAIN ANOTHER ISSUE WITH 2010 FORD FUSIONS AND HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE. IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE ROAD I WOULD BE UNABLE TO CONTROL MY VEHICLE MOST LIKELY RESULTING IN CRASH. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED ASAP
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR HOME FROM MY FRIEND'S HOUSE. WHILE I WAS TURNING OUT OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD, THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT RELEASE AND I PROCEEDED TO HIT A CURB, DAMAGING MY TWO LEFT WHEELS AND THE DRIVER FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON, BUT NO POWER STEERING MESSAGES. WHEN PULLING INTO THE GAS STATION, THE POWER STEERING WOULD NOT ENGAGE.
I WAS DRIVING HOME AT NIGHT AND ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AFTER SLOWING FROM 45 MPH. AS I ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE SERVICE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON MY DASHBOARD AND I FOUND MYSELF TRYING TO PILOT THE CAR WITH WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. THIS TURNED OUT TO BE DIFFICULT TO SAY THE LEAST AND WAS ONLY MADE MORE DIFFICULT BECAUSE I HAD LITTLE TIME TO REGISTER WHAT WAS HAPPENING. THE ROADS WERE ICY AND THERE WAS A CAR DIRECTLY BEHIND ME SO STOPPING WOULD LIKELY HAVE RESULTED IT AN ACCIDENT; I FORCED THE WHEEL BUT EVEN THEN I ENDED UP IN THE ONCOMING LANE AND HAD TO STRUGGLE TO GET BACK INTO THE RIGHT LANE. THANKFULLY THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE ONCOMING LANE OR AN ACCIDENT LIKELY WOULD HAVE OCCURRED AND THANKFULLY THAT TURN WAS INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD SO I HAD NO FURTHER TURNS TO MAKE. THE NEXT MORNING THE POWER STEERING WAS STILL OUT AND THE CAR IS EFFECTIVELY USELESS TO ME IN THIS STATE. I DO NOT HAVE $1800 TO PURCHASE A REPLACEMENT PART, ESPECIALLY NOT WHEN THAT PART WILL LIKELY HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I CAN'T SELL THE CAR TO ANYONE LIKE THIS AND I CAN'T AFFORD A NEW ONE SO I HONESTLY DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M GOING TO DO AT THIS POINT. IT'S DISSAPPOINTING THAT THIS SAME PART WAS RECALLED FOR SUBSEQUENT MODELS BUT NOT FOR THE 2010 MODEL; I HOPE THERE IS SOME JUSTIFICATION FOR NOT RECALLING THE PART AND LIVES AREN'T BEING PUT AT RISK AS A RESULT OF INCOMPETENCE, CORRUPTION, OR NEGLIGENCE BUT I AM A CYNICAL MAN. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING AND ATTEMPTING TO COAST THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE, THE CONTACT REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD, NECK, AND BACK INJURIES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE OTHER DRIVER WAS UNINJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V384000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156,271.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE SERVICE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO HER RESIDENCE AND THEN THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.
STEERING WHEEL WAS BLOCKED, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. WE HAD TO TOW THE CAR TO SARASOTA FORD FOR REPAIR WHICH WAS EXPENSIVE.UNFORTUNATELY, THERE IS NO RECALL REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND WE HAD TO PAY ABOUT $1900.00 FOR THE REPAIRS.A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALED THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE FOR THE 2010 FUSION MODEL .AND THAT OTHER MODEL YEARS OF THE SAME CAR (2011-2012) HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS SAME EXACT ISSUE.THESE EXPERIENCES HAVE PUT A LOT OF STRESS ON US, BOTH EMOTIONALLY AND NOW FINANCIALLY AS OUR LIMITED BUDGET HAS BEEN GREATLY AFFECTED BY THIS LATEST ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. WHILE NORMAL CONSUMABLE ITEMS (BRAKES, TIRES, ETC.) ARE EXPECTED TO BE REPLACED AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE, THE STEERING SYSTEM IS NOT ONE THAT WE WOULD EXPECT TO FAIL IN A MODERN CAR.WE HOPE THAT THE FORD COMPANY STANDS BEHIND ITS PRODUCTS AND RESOLVES THE SAFETY RELATED ISSUES THAT AFFECT THESE MODELS, WITHOUT PLACING AN EXPENSIVE BURDEN ON ITS CUSTOMERS.
16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS BACKING OUR 2010 FORD FUSION SE FROM THE GARAGE DOWN THE DRIVEWAY WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SUDDENLY UNABLE TO BE TURNED AND THE MESSAGE "STEERING ASSIST FAULT" APPEARED ON THE DASH. SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE FAULT CLEARED AND THE STEERING WAS AGAIN NORMAL. OBVIOUSLY, I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS FAULT OCCURRING AGAIN WHILE ONE OF MY DAUGHTERS ARE TRAVELLING AT SPEED. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE PROBLEM WITH THE EPAS SYSTEM THAT RESULTED IN RECALLS FOR 2011 AND NEWER FUSIONS, BUT THE 2010 MODEL WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. OBVIOUSLY, I WILL NEED TO GET THIS CHECKED OUT AT THE DEALER, BUT SUSPECT IT WILL RESULT IN THE DIAGNOSIS THAT THE POWER STEERING UNIT WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT.
AFTER I STARTED DRIVING I GOT A MESSAGE ON MY DASH SAYING SERVICE POWER STEERING. I DROVE TO THE STORE MAYBE 5 MILES TO GET POWER STEERING FLUID. AFTER MAKING MY PURCHASE I GOT IN MY CAR TO LEAVE AND THE MESSAGE CHANGED TO SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW. I TRIED TO BACK OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT BUT FOUND MY POWER STEERING WAS OUT. I LOOKED ONLINE FOR A SOLUTION AND CAME ACROSS A RECALL FOR THE VERY ISSUE. I CONTACTED A FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE ISSUE. THIS ISSUE HAPPENED QUICKLY AND I'M LUCKY I WASN'T DRIVING WHEN THE STEERING WENT OUT. HOW CAN THIS BE RESOLVED ? I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS CAR FOR A YEAR.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. I CAN ONLY OPEN IT BY ROLLING THE WINDOW DOWN AND GRABBING THE HANDLE ON THE OUTSIDE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE DISCUSSED WITH FORD AND THEY ARE NOT CONCERNED ABOUT IT/WILL NOT FIX IT FREE OF CHARGE. I SEE ONLINE WHERE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE WITH THE FORD FUSION, PLUS OTHER FORD CARS. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS.
HAD TIRES ROTATED AND ONE DAY LATER GOT A FLAT TIRE AND STEERING BECAME VERY HARD WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. "SERVICE STEERING NOW" ILLUMINATED ON DASH. THEN HAD THE TIRE REPLACED AND STILL HAD THE STEERING PROBLEMWITH STEERING. SERVICE STEERING NOW IS STILL SHOWING UP.
ONCE CAR WAS TURNED ON "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND I COULD NOT MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE PARKED. TURNED OFF THE CAR, THEN BACK ON AND SAME MESSAGE WAS SHOWN. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER WHEN I DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP.
SEVEN WHEEL STUDS HAVE BROKEN OFF ON THE LEFT-HAND SIDE. SIX SINCE NOVEMBER, 2018. I DON'T KNOW WHEN THEY HAPPENED OR HOW, BUT NOTICED. ONE BROKE A LONG TIME AGO ON THE BACK LEFT WHEEL AND I DROVE ON IT FOR SEVERAL YEARS. I NOTICED AT THANKSGIVING TWO MORE ON THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL AND FIXED IT PROMPTLY, ONLY DRIVING TO PICK UP PARTS, REPLACING ALL FIVE ON THE FRONT TIRE AND THE BROKEN ONE OF THE BACK TIRE. IN JANUARY 2019, I NOTICED TWO MORE ON THE BACK WHEEL SHEARED OFF AND REPLACED ALL FIVE. IN APRIL 2019, I NOTICED TWO MORE ON THE BACK WHEEL SHEARED OFF AND REPLACED THOSE TWO. AT THIS POINT, I AM SHOPPING FOR A NEW CAR, BUT WANTED TO RAISE THE ALARM THAT THERE COULD BE SOMETHING GOING ON WITH THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE 190,000 MILES ON IT AND THE HUBCAPS (WHICH ARE KNOWN TO FALL OFF ON THIS VEHICLE) HAVE FALLEN OFF ON THREE OF THE FOUR WHEELS, INCLUDING THE TWO THAT HAVE HAD PROBLEMS.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.
"TAKATA RECALL" I CALLED WOODY ANDERSON FORD IN HUNTSVILLE, AL AND DID NOT GET A CALL BACK FOR INSPECTION AND SERVICE FOR MY 2010 FORD FUSION. IT TOOK ME TWO MORE CALLS TO GET SOMEBODY ON THE LINE. I FINALLY DID, HIS NAME IS [XXX], WHO TOLD ME THAT MY FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS IN RECALL. HE TOLD ME THAT I COULD STILL DRIVE MY CAR AS LONG AS I DID NOT HAVE ANYONE IN THE FRONT SEAT. I HAVE OLDER CHILDREN WHO RIDE IN THAT SEAT, 15 YEARS AND ABOVE. I ASKED HIM IF THE AIRBAG WOULD DEPLOY AND HE SAID NOT TO RISK IT. I ASKED IF I COULD GET A RENTAL CAR AND HE SAID SINCE IT WAS A PASSENGER AIRBAG THAT I COULD NOT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS STILL DRIVABLE WITHOUT ANY PASSENGERS. WHAT??? WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, THE STEERING ABILITY SEIZED AND THE "SERVICE POWER STEERING SOON" MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE MESSAGE CENTER. THE CONTACT HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND OTHER MOTORISTS PUSHED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,643.

THE MESSAGE "STEERING ASSIST FAULT" DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GRAND PRAIRIE FORD (701 EAST PALACE PKWY, GRAND PRAIRIE, TX) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
AT 128,000 MILES BOTH THE POWER ASSIST STEER FAULT AND SERVICE ADVANCETRAC ILLUMINATED WITHIN THE MESSAGE CENTER IN MY DASHBOARD. MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN SITTING FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS AND HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN BUT A COUPLE OF TIMES DURING THIS PERIOD. I NEEDED TO DRIVE IT DUE TO HAVING WORK DONE ON MY DAILY DRIVER. SO, I STARTED MY VEHICLE THE MORNING I INTENDED TO USE IT TO COMMUTE TO WORK AND THESE PROBLEMS SUDDENLY APPEARED. I WAS NOT IN MOTION AS I HAD JUST STARTED THE VEHICLE ON THE MORNING OF THE 18TH TO WARM UP PRIOR TO DRIVING IT TO WORK.

ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, IT OPERATED NORMALLY. POWER STEERING FAILURE WHEN VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION AND IN MOTION GOING 62 MPH ON 11/18/2018. CAR WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CRASH WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE POWER ASSIST FAILURE WARNING CAME ON AND MY VEHICLE IS STILL WITHOUT POWER STEERING.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST $2,300 AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR A CASE NUMBER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
TAKATA RECALL, THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION THEN LOST CONTROL THEN THE AIRBAG EXPLODED CAUSING THE CAR TO DERAIL OFF THE STREET HITTING A LIGHT POST AND RESIDENTIAL FENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS A COMPLETE LOST.
BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BOARD OF THE CAR AND THE CAR DID NOT REACT WELL TO STOPPING AS MY DAUGHTER APPROACHED A STOP LIGHT. SCARY NONTHELESS. NORMAL BRAKING WORKED AFTER THAT ONE INCIDENT. ANYWAY WE BROUHT TO PRIVATE MECHANIC TO CHECK THINGS OUT AND HE DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH BRAKE LINE OR PADS. STILL SCARY TO THINK THIS MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN.

SPECIFICALLY, I CALLED MY FORD DEALER (WICKSTROM FORD (847) 381-8850) AND UNDERSTAND THAT NO REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE PSAN INFLATOR IS AVAILABLE TO REMEDY THE DEFECT. I HAVE DECIDED TO CONTACT NHTSA BECAUSE TAKATA HAS FILED BANKRUPTCY AND SENDS LEGAL NOTICES INTENDED TO LIMIT MY RIGHTS IN THE EVENT OF BODILY HARM, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR ECONOMIC HARM AND -- THIS PAST WEEK -- FORD HAS SENT ME A LEGAL NOTICE IN A CLASS ACTION INTENDED TO LIMIT MY RIGHTS IN THE EVENT OF ECONOMIC HARM. I HAVE A 2010 FORD FUSION SE WHERE THE ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM LITERALLY FAILED WHILE RUNNING MY ERRANDS. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR WHEREBY I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. FORTUNATELY I DID NOT HIT ANYONE OR ANYTHING. THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP EVENTUALLY DIAGNOSED THE "HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT" HAD COMPLETELY FAILED. READING ONLINE, IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS HAS BECOME A NATIONAL PROBLEM REGARDING THESE PARTICULAR FORD VEHICLES AND QUITE A FEW PEOPLE UNFORTUNATELY HAVE HAD ACCIDENTS SINCE THEY COULD NOT STOP PROPERLY IN TIME. IT APPEARS THIS HAS / COULD BECOME A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR OTHERS ON THE ROAD. DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. IT WILL LOCK AND UNLOCK, HANDLE WILL MOVE, DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. I HAVE TO OPEN THE WINDOW AND USE THE HANDLE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. THIS IS HAZARDOUS TO BE TRAPPED INSIDE OF MY CAR IN AN EMERGENCY.
I PICKED UP A SCREW IN MY FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE SOMEWHERE ON THE ROAD AND CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO HAVE SOMEONE COME CHANGE THE TIRE FOR ME. AFTER GETTING THE FLAT TIRE CHANGED TO A SPARE, MY POWER STEERING AND ADVANCETRAC EXPERIENCED COMPLETE FAILURE UPON RESTARTING THE CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO A GARAGE AND THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A COMPLETELY NEW POWER STEERING RACK THAT COULD COST $2,800 PLUS LABOR BECAUSE THE COMPUTER/SENSOR INSIDE MY CURRENT RACK WAS FAULTY. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT FORD FUSION MODEL YEARS 2011 TO 2014 HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT SAME REASON, BUT 2010'S HAVE NOT. I EXPERIENCED NO ISSUES WITH THE POWER STEERING OR ADVANCETRAC PRIOR TO THIS. AFTER GETTING THE FLAT REPAIRED AND PUT BACK ON MY VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING CODE WAS RESET, BUT THE GARAGE TOLD ME MY POWER STEERING COULD FAIL AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING AND I SHOULD DRIVE ACCORDINGLY IF I WASN'T GOING TO GET IT REPAIRED. I HAVE NOT HAD THE POWER STEERING FAIL AGAIN, BUT EVER SINCE THE INITIAL INCIDENT, MY LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON CONSTANTLY DESPITE THE TIRE PRESSURE BEING CHECKED AND DEEMED ACCEPTABLE MULTIPLE TIMES.
UPON STARTING MY CAR, I DID NOT HAVE POWER STEERING. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY (THANK GOD) BUT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE IT, IT WAS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. THE POWER ASSIST STEERING FAULT LIGHT WAS ON. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AS THE BOOK SUGGESTED BUT THE PROBLEM REMAINS THE SAME. I CAN NOT SAFELY DRIVE MY CAR THIS WAY.
AFTER TWO DAY SOMETHING IS KILLING THE BATTERY.
AFTER STARTING THE CAR, I GET MESSAGE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT". AFTER MOVING JUST A FEW FEET, THE TRACTION LIGHT COMES ON AND I GET MESSAGE "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC". THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THE ELECTRIC RACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THE PART ALONE IS OVER $1600. FROM MY UNDERSTANDING, THE 2011 AND 2012 MODELS HAVE BEEN RECALLED, AND THE 2010 MODELS HAVE THE SAME PART NUMBER FOR THE RECALLED RACK.
