TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I'M EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT THE POWER STEERING FAILURE THAT JUST OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 70,000 MILES ON IT AND IS REGULARLY MAINTAINED BY THE FORD DEALERSHIP. I WAS TAKING MY DAUGHTER OUT TO DRIVE FOR HER FIRST TIME AND HAD THIS FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE SHE WAS BEHIND THE WHEEL I'M NOT SURE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. LUCKILY IT WAS ME BEHIND THE WHEEL FIRST OTHERWISE THIS COULD HAVE ENDED TRAGICALLY. THIS ALSO APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM THAT A NUMBER OF OTHER FORD FUSION OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED AND A RECOGNIZED PROBLEM IN OTHER MODELS THAT FORD HAS ALREADY RECALLED. ONCE THE CAR WAS STARTED A MESSAGE CAME ON STATING POWER STEERING NEEDS SERVICE AND COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. ALSO A MESSAGE ABOUT SOMETHING TRAC APPEARED AS WELL. DEALER STATES THE STEERING RACK MUST BE REPLACED AT $1800 DOLLARS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,219.
INTERIOR DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO OPEN. NORMAL PRESSURE WAS BEING APPLIED TO HANDLE WHEN THE BREAK OCCURRED. ABLE TO OPEN DOOR FROM EXTERIOR HANDLE IF WINDOW CAN BE ROLLED DOWN. THIS CAUSES GREAT CONCERN IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY AND UNABLE TO EXIT VEHICLE. PART IS MADE OF A LOW GRADE BRITTLE PLASTIC, REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE OF THE SAME BRITTLE PLASTIC MATERIAL. SAME PART AS USED ON THE 2006 FUSION TO THE 2012 FUSION, WHICH ALL HAVE THIS FAILURE OF THE COMPONENT WHICH IS A GENUINE SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND REQUIRED THE CONTACT TO USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO MANEUVER. THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED DURING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
CAR LOST POWER AT 70 WHILE ON CRUISE ON THE HIGHWAY LOST SPEED AND DROPPED DOWN TO 40, WENT INTO LIMP MODE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SCANNED CAR CODE P2119 PRESENT FORD REPLACED (NO CHARGE) THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY UNDER A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13B17. *TR
WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM SUDDENLY FAILED. MESSAGES STATING "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" AND "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC" AS WELL. GREAT DIFFICULTY TURNING ON THE WINDY ROAD WITH FOUR KIDS IN CAR. FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE. SEE OTHER FORD VEHICLES WERE RECALLED FOR SAME PROBLEM. WHY NOT FUSIONS? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE LOST ENGINE POWER AND DECELERATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE POWER TRAIN CALIBRATION NEEDED TO BE UPDATED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,600.
WAS DRIVING TO WORK WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED ON A SIDE STREET WITH NO WARNING. I COULD NOT TURN THE VEHICLE AND ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AS I WAS TURNING INTO MY WORKPLACE. THE WARNING ON THE DASH MONITOR ADVISED "SERVICE POWER STEERING SOON" AND "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC SOON". VEHICLE ACTED NORMAL UPON RESTART AT THE END OF THE DAY THEN ON MY HOME DID IT AGAIN ON A VERY CURVY MOUNTAIN ROAD. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO MAINTAIN LANE CONTROL AND GET OFF THE ROAD. UPON RESEARCH OF THE ISSUE IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED THAT FORD HAS HAD THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR FUSIONS YET THE EXACT SAME ALL ELECTRIC STEERING IS USED IN OTHER MODELS THAT ARE RECALLED DUE TO EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DRIVING ISSUES. A FORD SERVICE MANAGER EXPLAINED TO ME THAT SYSTEM COULD COMPLETELY FAIL AT ANY MOMENT CAUSING A COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING AND I NEEDED TO PARK THE VEHICLE UNTIL REPAIRED. HE ALSO ADVISED THEY SEE IT A LOT AND THE REPAIR COULD COST ABOUT $2000. MY CAR IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD WITH 136,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY CITY STREET WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER. NO RESPONSE WHEN I GAVE IT GAS. TURNED ON HAZARD LIGHTS, TURNED OFF ENGINE. RESTARTED ENGINE, PUT IN DRIVE, TRIED TO MOVE - IT SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND NOISILY. WITH NO SHOULDER TO STREET, I WAS STRANDED IN TRAFFIC LANE UNTIL TOWTRUCK ARRIVED. HAD TO GO TO FORD DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY PERFORMED "FIELD SERVICE ACTION 13B17." SERVICE ORDER SAID "REPLACE THROTTLE BODY AND REFLASH PCM." SINCE THEY DID NOT CHARGE FOR THE REPAIR, I ASKED IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. THE TECHNICIAN SAID THERE WAS A RECALL FOR RECALIBRATION OF THE PCM, BUT WITH A FIELD SERVICE ACTION THEY ONLY REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY IF IT FAILS. INTERNET RESEARCH, INCLUDING THIS SITE, REVEALED THAT FORD WAS AWARE OF A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM BUT RESPONDED ONLY BY EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON IT. THE COMPANY CLAIMED THAT IN THE EVENT OF A PROBLEM, THE CAR WOULD GO INTO "LIMP HOME MODE." WHATEVER THAT MEANS, MY EXPERIENCE WAS THAT THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED IN TRAFFIC. HAD I BEEN ON AN INTERSTATE, PEOPLE MIGHT HAVE BEEN KILLED. AND I SEE, FROM THE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM, THAT IT HAS INDEED HAPPENED ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS AND AT HIGH SPEEDS. IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE FOR FORD TO IGNORE A KNOWN SAFETY PROBLEM SUCH AS THIS UNTIL AFTER AN INCIDENT. UPON FURTHER INQUIRY, THE SERVICE WRITER AT THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THAT THERE IS NOW A RECALL FOR THE THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM, THAT THE NOTICES WERE "JUST SENT OUT" AND I JUST HAPPENED TO ARRIVE BEFORE GETTING ONE. AS YOU KNOW, AS OF TODAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2014, THERE IS NO SUCH RECALL SHOWN ON THE FORD SITE (COULD NOT FIND ANY RECALL INFO) OR THE NHTSA SITE. A VEHICLE'S STOPPING DEAD WITHOUT WARNING IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. WHY ARE THE AFFECTED VEHICLES NOT BEING RECALLED? *TR
THE DRIVER SIDE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE HAS BROKEN THE LINKAGE BEHIND THE DOOR PANEL. THIS CAUSES THE DOOR NOT TO BE ABLE TO OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. IF I NEEDED TO EVACUATE MY VEHICLE, I CANT, AND COULD CAUSE MY DEATH... *TR
MY VEHICLE SUFFERED THE FORD CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM FOR THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WILL IDEL ROUGH THERE WILL BE A SURGE AND THEN THE VEHICLE WILL GO INTO "LIMP HOME MODE" . THIS HAPPENED WHILE TURNING AT LIGHTFROM A STOP. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED THEN HESITATED THE A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. ATT HAT POINT THE CAR WAS IN "LIMP HOME MODE" THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR INSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS THE PROBLEM. CONTACTED FORD AND MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THEIR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM WHICH EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON OVER 1 MILLION FOR VEHICLES. I BELIEVE FORD NEEDS TO EXTEND THIS "CSP" TO A LARGER RANGE OF VIN NUMBERS AND ASSEMBLY PLANTS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN CAUSING THE CONTACT TO APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE IN ORDER TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRIC MOTOR AND THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,540.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY LOST POWER UNDER ACCELERATION. I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER AND THEY FIXED IT FREE OF CHARGE. THEY SAID THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE, BUT HAVE NOT HAD TIME TO SEND OUT A RECALL YET. *TR
LOCKS LINKAGES AND LEVERS DRIVER INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE FAILED WHILE EXITING CAR AT GAS STATION. CAR REPAIRED BY MECHANIC (NOT FORD). HANDLE LINKAGE IS MADE OF CHROME PLATED PLASTIC WHICH ATTACHES TO LOCK/DOOR RELEASE CABLE. I HAD TO EXIT THE CAR BY ROLLING DOWN THE DRIVER'S WINDOW AND USED THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE. LUCKILY THE INTERIOR LATCH FAILURE CAUSED THE DOOR LOCK MECHANISM TO FAIL IN THE UNLOCKED MODE RESULTING IN THE INABILITY TO LOCK THE CAR. INTERIOR LATCH MECHANISM COST 120.00 DOLLARS PLUS LABOR TO REPAIR. SAFETY CONCERN IS THAT I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE INTERIOR DOOR LATCH FOR 2010 FUSIONS AT ABOUT 2-3 YEARS OLD. COULD THE PLASTIC BE DEGRADING DUE TO AGE OR HEAT? LIVING IN GA THE INTERIOR HEAT DURING THE SUMMER REACHES WELL OVER 100 DEGREES. SECOND SAFETY CONCERN IS THAT IF THIS FAILURE OCCURRED IN CONJUNCTION WITH A CRASH RESULTING IN CAR FIRE IT WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO EXIT THE CAR BY CRAWLING OVER THE CONSOLE TO USE THE PASSENGER DOOR--LET ALONE THINKING TO ROLL-DOWN THE WINDOW TO USE THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE. *TR
MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING ON A SURFACE STREET, AND THE POWER STEERING AND TRAC WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THE STEERING IMMEDIATELY WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT, AND REQUIRED GREAT EFFORT TO GET THE TWO MILES HOME. I THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY ALSO OBSERVED THE WARNING LIGHTS AND THE EXTREME STEERING EFFORT REQUIRED. THE CAR STILL HAD THE PROBLEM EVEN AFTER BEING SHUT OFF AND ON THREE TIMES. ONCE THE DEALERSHIP CLEARED THE COMPUTER GENERATED WARNING LIGHT, THE PROBLEM WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. I REQUESTED THAT THEY CALL FORD MOTOR TO DISCUSS PROBLEM, AND POTENTIAL SOLUTION. HOTLINE ASSISTANCE REQUEST #107811552 AND RO# 376828 DATED 9/4/14. FORD CAME BACK WITH RECOMMENDATIONS ON 9/5/14. THE DEALER KEPT MY VEHICLE FOR 7 DAYS, TRYING TO GET THE PROBLEM TO RE-OCCUR. FINALLY THEY GAVE ME A FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND SENT ME HOME. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT AN UNKNOWN VALVE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
BRAKE CALIPER SLIDE WILL FREEZE UP AND GRIND ON BRAKES AND ROTORS. NEW BRAKES AND PADS WERE PUT ON 1 YEAR AGO AND THE LEFT REAR CALIPER HAS COMPLETELY FROZEN UP. FROM DOING ONLINE RESEARCH THIS IS A SEVERE PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. *TR
WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 50 MPH ON SIDE STREET AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST LIGHT CAME ON AND LOST ALL POWER STEERING. I AM A BIG MAN AND WAS NOT TO FAR FROM HOME AND WAS ABLE TO MUSCLE IT TO THE DRIVEWAY. IT HAS SAT THERE SINCE. MY WIFE IS SLIGHT IN STATURE AND IF THIS HAD HAPPENED TO HER I HAVE NO DOUBT SHE COULD NOT STEER THE CAR. *TR
CAR HAD A FLAT TIRE, THEN CHANGED TO THE SPARE AND STARTED TO DRIVE IT TO GET A NEW TIRE. ONCE I STARTED A DASHBOARD NOTIFICATION CAME UP "SERVICE ADVANCETRACK" AND THE POWER STEERING WAS GONE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. A MECHANIC REPLACED THE RACK AND PINION AND RESET THE WARNING. A FEW DAYS LATER THE CAR ALERTED THE SAME WARNING AND STEERING ASSIST WAS GONE, MECHANIC RESET THE CODE AND THE POWER STEERING RETURNED. THEN 3 DAYS AGO, WITHOUT A FLAT TIRE OR ANY NOTICE THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN MAKING THE CAR NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE AGAIN.THIS TIME THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE CODE COULD NOT BE RESET DUE TO A COMPONENT FAILURE.
BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE, I GOT JUST OUTSIDE THE DOOR AND WENT TO TURN WHEEL AND FOUND THAT IT WAS LOCKED UP, VERY HARD TO TURN. A WARNING MESSAGE CAME ON ABOUT STEERING FAULT. OWNERS MANUAL TOLD ME TO SHUT CAR OFF AND TURN ON AGAIN TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS TOLD I HAD TO LEAVE IT FOR 3 DAYS AND HAD AN $1800 REPAIR TO REPLACE THE RACK & PINION. I NOW FIND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THESE CARS UPON SEARCHING INTERNET. CAR IS NOT OLD ENOUGH TO WARRANT SUCH A COSTLY REPAIR AND I'M VERY GLAD I WASN'T ON FREEWAY, TRYING TO CHANGE LANES. I CONTACTED FORD AND WAS BASICALLY TOLD "TOO BAD". *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY WENT INTO IDLE AND IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO ACCELERATE. I WAS FORTUNATELY ABLE TO MAKE MY WAY OVER TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT BEFORE THE CAR CAME TO A SHAKING HALT. THIS THEN HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES AS I MADE MY WAY ON LOCAL ROADS TO A FORD DEALER. ALSO FORTUNATELY, THE DEALER REPAIRED MY CAR (REPLACED THROTTLE BODY AND REPROGRAMMED), WHICH WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, FREE OF CHARGE. I DON'T KNOW WHY SUCH A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING DEFECT HAS NOT BEEN THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE WAS LEAKING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THERE WAS CRACK ON THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY THE FUEL TANK BEING REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
BEEN NOTICING THE CAR WOULD IDLE ROUGH FROM TIME TO TIME. WAS DRIVING HOME ON AUGUST 25, 2014 AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, HAD NO ACCELERATION, EVEN PUT THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR BOARD. PULLED OFF SHUT CAR DOWN, AND RESTARTED AND EVERYTHING WAS GOOD. DID NOTICE SOME MORE SPUTTERING ON THE DRIVE HOME. TOOK IT IN AUGUST 27, 2014 AND DEALER STATED IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR. $485.00 TO REPAIR THIS. I HAVE A 2005 FORD F150 ALSO AND STUCK $3,700 INTO IT LAST YEAR. THINKING THESE WILL BE THE LAST FORD PRODUCTS I WILL EVER OWN. I HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH 225,000, ONLY THING I EVER REPLACED, OTHER THAN REGULAR MAINTENANCE ITEMS, WAS THE WATER PUMP. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,212. UPDATED 10/8/14*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE MODEL WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. WHILE DRIVING BACK HOME TO CINCINNATI, OHIO FROM LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, MY STEERING WHEEL STIFFENED UP. I AM A SMALL FRAME WOMAN AND IT WAS ALMOST UNREAL FOR ME TO GUIDE MYSELF TO SAFETY. I FRANTICALLY JUMPED OUT OF MY CAR BECAUSE I SAW MY WHOLE LIFE FLASH BEFORE MY EYES. I CALLED A FRIEND OF MINES WHO CAME TO GET ME AND MY CAR AND TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP. THEY QUOTED A PRICE OF $2200 FOR RACK AND PINION. VEHICLE RECEIVED UPDATED SOFTWARE IN 2010 FOR THE TRANSMISSION VIA THE RECALL. CONTINUED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM OF SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND AT HIGHER SPEEDS THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. TOOK IT TO THREE SEPARATE DEALERS AND FINALLY THEY DID A VISUAL AND DISCOVERED THE TRANSMISSION WAS FRIED!!!! THERE WEREN'T ANY CODES OFF AT THE TIME EITHER. HAD TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION IN 2011. PROBLEM STILL WAS OCCURRING, BUT NOT AS SEVERE. PROBLEM NOW IS IT'S GETTING WORSE AGAIN. TOOK IN CAR AGAIN AND WAS CHARGED 100 DOLLARS FOR A THEM TO CHECK IT AND NO CODES AND THEY SAY NO PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, I LIVE LESS THAN 5 MILES AWAY FROM MY WORK, AND I NOTICED THE LOW PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON, I WENT ON TO WORK WHERE I DISCOVERED MY TIRE PICKED UP A NAIL. IMMEDIATELY THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND WAS HARD TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. I FEEL THIS ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILURE IS A FAULTY PART. DIAGNOSIS FROM FORD STATES I NEED TO REPLACE THE PART DUE TO (FRICTION ELEMENTS DETECTED BY THE CONTROL MODULE) ($1700) I FEEL STUCK IN WHAT TO DO AS I FEEL NOTHING WAS WRONG EVER WITH MY POWER STEERING UNTIL THE LOW PRESSURE LIGHT APPEARED. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WILL RANDOMLY STALL OUT...THE CAR WILL BEGIN BUCKING, DECELERATE, LOSE POWER, AND LIGHTS ON DASH WILL START FLASHING... RENDERING THE DRIVER PRETTY MUCH HELPLESS. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS PRIOR TO FORDS THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY RECALL. EACH TIME THIS HAPPENED FORD WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM CAUSE NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES WERE PRESENT. THIS PROBLEM WILL OCCUR AND THE CAR WILL BE FINE THEN WILL REOCCUR RANDOMLY. THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED AND THE PROBLEM APPEARED TO RESOLVE ITSELF FOR 2YRS. THE CAR IS NOW HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM...I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A FORD DEALER AND AFTER 2 DAYS IN THE SHOP AGAIN NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND BY THE TECHNICIANS. THE CAR AGAIN CONTINUES TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS IMMEDIATELY AFTER PICKING UP FROM SERVICE CENTER. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED 250 MILES TO MY HOUSE WHERE IT NOW SITS ROTTING AWAY FOR FEAR OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE.
JUST PURCHASED USED 2010 FORD FUSION SE (6CYL). AFTER 2 DAYS OF DRIVING, WAS ON THE INTERSTATE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH AND THE ADVANCE TRAC LIGHT CAME ON. I NOTICED THE POWER STEERING WAS GETTING STIFF. SHORTLY AFTER A "SERVICE POWER STEERING" MESSAGE APPEARED AND IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT FOR ME TO CONTROL MY VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OFF TO AN EXIT AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE, I TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON.THE ADVANCE TRAC LIGHT SENSOR WAS OFF BUT THE MESSAGE APPEARS "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW". THE STEERING WHEEL WAS COMPLETELY LOCKED UP AND I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE FROM TOWED THE VEHICLE BACK TO THEIR LOT AND HAD THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED. THEY WERE TOLD BY FORD THAT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING HAD TO BE "RESET". THEY "RESET" THE POWER STEERING, THE MESSAGE WAS CLEARED AND THE STEERING WAS GOOD. AFTER 2 WEEKS OF DRIVING, AGAIN I WAS ON THE SAME INTERSTATE GOING 75 MPH AND THE ADVANCE TRAC LIGHT APPEARED WITH THE MESSAGE "SERVICE POWER STEERING." LUCKILY, I WAS NEAR AN EXIT AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PARK MY VEHICLE AT A GAS STATION. THE DEALER AGAIN TOWED THE VEHICLE BACK TO THEIR SHOP AND IS WAITING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO. I FIND THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND I'M SURPRISED THAT A RECALL HASN'T BEEN MADE FOR THIS ISSUE ON THE FORD FUSIONS.IF YOU GOOGLE THE PROBLEM, YOU WILL SEE MULTIPLE FORUMS WITH PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF SAME ISSUE BUT ALL THE REPAIRS WERE DIFFERENT ON THEIR FORD FUSIONS. ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER, THE CONSOLE READ "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND RIGHT AWAY THE STEERING GOT VERY TIGHT. STEERING WAS OK UNTIL THEN. I DO NOT RECALL THE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" INDICATOR GOING OFF WITH A TURN AS SUCH. IT WAS ON A STRAIGHT ROAD. I PULLED OVER AND KILLED THE ENGINE POWER, OPENED THE DOOR AND STARTED THE ENGINE UP AGAIN IN ABOUT 5 SECONDS. THE INDICATOR WAS GONE AND THE STEERING WAS NORMAL. I STARTED DRIVING AND WHEN I MADE A LEFT TURN, THE INDICATOR CAME BACK AGAIN AND STEERING FELT VERY STIFF. STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL, I LEFT HIS SHOP, WITH NO REAL STEERING ISSUES....UNTIL 10/28/2014. SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE FUSION. MESSAGES APPEARED, POWER ASSIST FAILED, MAKING CAR DIFFICULT TO STEER. RETURNED IT TO SAME SERVICE CENTER, CODES AGAIN CLEARED, STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL.
