I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE TO ABOUT 10 MPH WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY BEGAN RUNNING ROUGH AND I COULD NOT INCREASE SPEED. IT SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 3 MPH AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND NO MATTER HOW FAR I PUSHED THE PEDAL IT WOULD NOT MOVE PAST 700 RPM. THE CAR BEHIND ME WHICH HAD SEEN ME START TO GO ASSUMED I WAS GOING TO KEEP ACCELERATING AND HAD TO BRAKE HARD TO AVOID RUNNING INTO THE BACK OF ME. I SAT IN THE LEFT LANE UNTIL THE RIGHT CLEARED SO I COULD LITERALLY ROLL IT ONTO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID GETTING REAR ENDED BY TRAFFIC. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RE-STARTED IT. IT SEEMED TO WORK FINE AFTER THAT. THE NEXT DAY, IT DID IT AGAIN TO MY WIFE. SHE WAS STARTING TO ACCELERATE, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND NO POWER, GAS PEDAL WAS INOPERATIVE AND IT WAS RUNNING ROUGH. THIS REPEATED ITSELF SEVERAL TIMES MORE THAT DAY. DID IT AGAIN AND IT SEEMED IT WAS INCREASING IN FREQUENCY. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED AND THAT IT IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. IT HAD AN ERROR CODE OF P2111. THIS PART SHOULD NOT FAIL SO EASILY AND IT NEARLY CAUSED MY CAR TO GET REAR ENDED. I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH WHILE AT THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I FELT THAT THIS PART FAILING SO EARLY AND WITH SO LITTLE MILEAGE (WHICH MOST IS EASY HIGHWAY) WAS ODD. I COME TO FIND OUT THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AND IT SEEMS MORE AND MORE ARE FAILING. FORD EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED THEY HAD MADE SOME DEFECTIVE ONES. THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
THIS VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF 50 MPH. THE ADVANCED TRAC LIGHT CAME ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, SAYING TO SERVICE THE ADVANCE TRAC IS NEEDED, WHEN THE TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTED HARSHLY AN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AN WOULD NOT GO OFF EVEN AFTER CUTTING THE VEHICLE OFF AN RESTARTING THE VEHICLE AN WOULD NOT ACCELERATE HIGHER THAN 20 MPH IN TRAFFIC ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON. I HAD TO CONTINUE THIS PROCEDURE THE ENTIRE COMMUTE TO MY WORK PLACE WHICH WAS A 50 MILE COMMUTE ONE WAY. I PARKED THE VEHICLE FOR 16 HOURS TO HOPEFULLY RESET THE SYSTEM. I CAME OUT TO GET IN MY VEHICLE TO HOPEFULLY GO HOME AN THE SAME ACTIONS STARTED AGAIN ON THE HIGHWAY. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AN DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT ON THE ENTIRE TRIP TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY WOULD NEED TO KEEP THE VEHICLE TO ANALYZE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AN HAD TO TAKE THE TRANSMISSION PAN DOWN TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS EXACTLY WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE WAS DONE THE NEXT MORNING AN I FOUND OUT THE WIRING HARNESS WAS SHAVED WITH IN THE TRANSMISSION AN THE PART WAS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY OR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I PURCHASED WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. THE COST WAS GOING TO BE AT LEAST 500 DOLLARS TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE. I KNOW THAT OTHER FORD FUSION OWNERS MUST HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM AS I HAVE ON THESE VEHICLES AN ALSO I HAD THE THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM ALSO ON THIS SAME VEHICLE WHICH COST ME 600 DOLLARS TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM ALSO IN APRIL OF 2012. THIS WAS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE SINCE I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE NOW SINCE IF I HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD AN RESTART THE VEHICLE WITH THE REPEATED PROBLEM. *TR
I FILED AN ORIGINAL COMPLAINT REGARDING SUDDEN FAILURE OF MY VEHICLE TO MOVE OR PRODUCE ANY POWER BACK ON 10-05-2013 UNDER NHTSA ID NUMBER 10546865. AT THAT TIME I DESCRIBED THE FOLLOWING: SUMMARY: I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE TO ABOUT 10 MPH WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY BEGAN RUNNING ROUGH AND I COULD NOT INCREASE SPEED. IT SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 3 MPH AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND NO MATTER HOW FAR I PUSHED THE PEDAL IT WOULD NOT MOVE PAST 700 RPM. THIS REPEATED ITSELF SEVERAL TIMES MORE THAT DAY. FILED ORIGINAL COMPLAINT BECAUSE I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A LARGE NUMBER OF THESE FAILING PREMATURELY AND TO DOCUMENT MY VEHICLE. I PAID THE REPAIR IN OCTOBER 2013 FOR EXACTLY SAME SYMPTOMS P2111 AND SAME CONDITIONS AS ALL OF THE OTHER VEHICLES IN THIS INVESTIGATION WERE EXPERIENCING. I KEPT TRACK OF NHTSA'S INVESTIGATION CAME TO FIND OUT THAT FORD HAD ISSUED A "CUSTOMER SERVICE CAMPAIGN" EARLIER THIS YEAR THAT EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE THROTTLE BODY TO 10 YEARS/150K MILES AND A LETTER WOULD BE SENT OUT. I NEVER RECEIVED ONE. CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THEY DID NOT SEE ANYTHING UNDER MY VIN BUT WOULD SEND THE REQUEST TO FORD. FORD SAYS THAT NHTSA DETERMINES WHICH VEHICLES FALL UNDER THE ISSUE. SO JUST CONTACTED NHTSA VIA TELEPHONE SPEAKING TO [XXX] WHO SAID THAT SINCE I ALREADY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA THAT SHE COULD NOT HELP ME BUT SAID FOR ME TO GO ONLINE AND UPDATE MY COMPLAINT SO THAT THE NHTSA ENGINEERS WOULD INVESTIGATE FURTHER. IN WARRANTY DATABASE I FOUND MANY 2010 FORD FUSIONS PRODUCED BEFORE AND AFTER MINE (**/**) WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE A CALL FROM A NHTSA ENGINEER PLEASE. THANK YOU. GOING DOWN HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 50 MPH WHEN THE CAR JUST SEEMED AS IF IT WAS NOT GETTING ANY GAS. THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT WORK. SECOND TIME PULLING OUT AFTER STOPPING AT STOP SIGN AND WHEN PULLED OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD IT STALLED OUT AGAIN, TRIED PUSHING GAS PEDDLE TO MAKE IT GO AND FELT AS IF THE GAS PEDDLE WAS NOT WORKING AT ALL. *TR
MY CAR, 2010 FORD FUSION SE, HAS NOW STALLED ON ME THREE TIMES WITH IN THE MATTER OF 3 MONTHS. THE FIRST TIME IT STALLED I WAS PULLING ONTO A MAIN ROAD AND TAKING A LEFT, HAVING TO CROSS BOTH LANES AND IT STALLED AS SOON AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE ACROSS BOTH LANES, I BARELY MADE IT ACROSS BOTH LANES TO PULL OVER AND GET OUT OF THE WAY. THE SECOND TIME WAS SIMILAR EXCEPT I WAS TAKING A RIGHT ONTO A STREET AND COULD PULL RIGHT OVER. THE THIRD TIME IT STALLED ON ME I WAS DRIVING APPROX.. 50MPH OVER A BRIDGE AND HAD TO PULL OVER WHERE THE TRAFFIC WAS COMING ONTO AND OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AND THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO GET HIT. MY CAR IS NOT PAID FOR AND NOW I NEED TO SPEND ALMOST $400.00 RIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS... I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS ISN'T A RECALL AFTER READING OVER 600 SIMILAR SITUATIONS... IF THIS WERE TO RESULT IN AN INJURY OR FATALITY WOULD THAT MAKE IT A RECALL?? *TR
TRAVELING ON A LOCAL INTERSTATE AT 70MPH IN TRAFFIC, THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER, THE ENGINE WENT TO IDLE AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OR MAINTAIN SPEED. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. AS I WAS RAPIDLY LOSING SPEED, I HAD TO GET TO THE RIGHT SHOULD TO PULL THE CAR SAFELY OUT OF TRAFFIC. THE EXACT SAME LOSS OF ENGINE POWER OCCURRED LESS THAN 24 HOURS EARLIER WHILE WAITING TO TURN IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. THESE ARE THE FIRST 2 INCIDENTS, BUT OCCURRED VERY CLOSE TOGETHER. *TR
THE RPMS ON THE CAR SURGED AND THEN THAT CAR SHUT OFF, AND WOULD ONLY STAY RUNNING FOR 15 SECONDS AFTERWARD. THE AUTOSHOP IS HAVE TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE ON I-40 WHEN I HEARD A NOISE AND THEN REALIZED THAT I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THIS WAS ESPECIALLY FRIGHTENING AND DANGEROUS GIVEN THE FACT THAT I WAS DRIVING DURING A TIME OF HIGH-VOLUME TRAFFIC, AND THERE WERE CARS BEHIND ME ALSO GOING 70 MPH. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT ENDANGERING MYSELF OR OTHER DRIVERS. UPON REACHING THE SHOULDER, I REALIZED THAT THE CAR WAS BUCKING AND SURGING, AND I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. A FEW MINUTES LATER, I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE CAR AND CONTINUE DRIVING, BUT UPON ACCELERATING TOWARDS HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED, AND I MOVED BACK ONTO THE SHOULDER. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE MY SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE INFORMED ME THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY ISSUES WITH THIS PARTICULAR PART, THAT IT IS ON BACK ORDER WITH FORD ON A NATIONAL SCALE. QUITE FRANKLY, I'M APPALLED THAT FORD HAS YET TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS PART, AND I'M AFRAID IT WILL ONLY OCCUR AFTER SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED AS A RESULT OF THEIR DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. I FIND THIS EXTREMELY DISHEARTENING, AND I WOULD LIKE AN EXPLANATION FROM FORD AS TO WHY THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL. *TR
DRIVING AT A CONSTANT SPEED OF 45MPH WHEN MY CAR IDLES OUT, LOSE CONTROL OF GAS PEDAL FUNCTION (ACCELERATION) WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN ON A RED LIGHT. (ONCOMING TRAFFIC COMING FROM THE LEFT DRIVER-SIDE. WRENCH ICON COMES ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL. CARE BEGINS TO STUTTER AND SHAKE,I STILL CAN NOT USE MY GAS PEDAL. I TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD (THINGS RESET AND ARE FINE). THERE IS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY PART THAT NUMEROUS OTHER FORD FUSIONS ARE HAVING, YET NO RECALL HAS BEEN MADE? MY CAR HAS VERY LOW MILES FOR IT'S YEAR AND SHOULD NOT BE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE. I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED WITHOUT MANUAL FORCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,300.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IN TRAFFIC IN THE USED VEHICLE WE BOUGHT HER 3 DAYS AGO. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPUTTER THEN LOST POWER ,YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, PRESSING GAS PEDAL DID NOTHING SHE WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD TURNED OFF CAR AND TURNED IT BACK ON WRENCH LIGHT WAS GONE CAR STARTED UP. DROVE A FEW MORE MILES SAME THING HAPPENED SHE HAD TO PULL OVER AGAIN TURN IT OFF AND RESTART. I LOOKED UP THE PROBLEM ONLINE AND FOUND MANY, MANY POSTS ON THIS ISSUE. IT IS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. FORD NEEDS TO DO A RECALL! *JS
I PURCHASED MY FORD FUSION AT A DEALERSHIP THREE DAYS AGO. YESTERDAY I WAS DRIVING MY CAR HOME FROM WORK AND SUDDENLY I LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, AND AN ORANGE WRENCH POPPED UP ON MY DASHBOARD. MY CAR STARTED TO SPUTTER SO I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT DOWN. WHEN I WENT TO START IT BACK UP AT SPUTTERED BUT STARTED AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED ONE MORE TIME ON MY TRIP HOME. BOTH TIMES I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED. UPON RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE I'VE NOTICED THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM. WHAT I HAVE NOT COME TO UNDERSTAND IS WHY YOU HAVE NOT RECALL WHATEVER PART IS CAUSING THIS. TO SAY I'M DISAPPOINTED IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND I REALLY HOPE THAT IT DOESN'T TAKE SOMEBODY GETTING KILLED FOR THIS PART TO BE RECALLED. *TR
LAST YEAR I HAD BOUGHT ONE (2010 SEL) <VIN:[XXX]> THAT SUDDENLY STARTED LOSING POWER ON THE HIGHWAY. A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY SO I HAD TO PAY $500 IN REPAIRS TO REPLACE A THROTTLE BODY. UPON DOING RESEARCH THIS IS A KNOWN AND VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE FOR THE FORD FUSION AND THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT IT. FAST FORWARD TO 2013, I PURCHASED MY SECOND FORD FUSION <VIN: [XXX]> ABOUT 1.5 MONTHS AGO. LAST WEEK THE SAME ISSUE STARTED YET AGAIN,THIS CAR HAD MUCH LESS MILES, A MUCH MORE UPGRADED VERSION, AND WAS BOUGHT IN AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STATE YET THE SAME DANGEROUS ISSUE OCCURRED. I HAD TO ONCE AGAIN PAY TO HAVE THIS KNOWN DEFECTIVE PART REPLACED. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN FORD ISSUE AND IT IS VERY DANGEROUS, AND AS I CONSUMER I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS, AND I WOULD LIKE MY MONEY REFUNDED. I ALSO THINK THAT THIS IS A WELL KNOWN FORD ISSUE, SUCH THAT NO ONLY DO DEALERSHIPS STOCK THESE SPECIFIC PARTS, THEY CREATED A SPECIFIC TEST FOR IT, AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD BE HELP RESPONSIBLE. ONE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE SCARED THAT THEY WILL DIE ON THE HIGHWAY FROM THE CAR CUTTING OFF WITHOUT WARNING. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE. THROTTLE BODY WENT OUT ON CAR. CAR ALL OF THE SUDDEN JUST STOPPED ACCELERATING AND WOULD ACCELERATE ANY MORE. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON. 2010 AWD FORD FUSION SEL *JS
I WAS TRYING TO ENTER I-77 FROM THE ENTRANCE RAMP WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND A WRENCH APPEARED ON MY DASH LIGHTS. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE RAMP AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. IN A FEW MINUTES I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND IT RAN FINE. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED THAT FORD HAS A SEVERE PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODIES ON THIS ENGINE (I-4). THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION, IF I HAD BEEN ON THE BUSY INTERSTATE I WOULD PROBABLY HAVE BEEN RUN OVER. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS PROBABLY THE PROBLEM AND IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THEY QUOTED ME A PRICE BETWEEN $500.00 AND $700.00 TO REPLACE IT. I PURCHASED THE PART MYSELF FOR UNDER $200.00 AND REPLACED IT MYSELF IN ABOUT 15 MINUTES. FORD NEEDS TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER FOR A BRAKE INSPECTION, SHE WAS ADVISED THAT THE WHEELS LUG NUTS WERE CORRODED. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 11V574000 (WHEELS). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE LUG NUTS WERE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,880.
DRIVING ON ROADWAY MAKING A TURN WHEN CAR BEGAN TO BUCK & STALL OUT. CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 1000 RPM. GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT RESPOND. CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 5MPH. MADE IT TO A PARKING LOT. CALLED A TOW TRUCK & HAD THE CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THEY CALLED & LET ME KNOW THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE & HAD TO BE REPLACED. CAR JUST HAS 66,000 MILES LUCKILY WE WEREN'T ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS OCCURRED COULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT. *TR
THE THROTTLE BODY ON MY 2010 FORD FUSION SE FAILED. MY CAR LOST POWER AND STALLED OUT FOUR TIMES WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. I HAVE REPLACED THE PART AND WOULD CERTAINLY LIKE TO SEE FORD RECALL THIS PART. *TR
TRAVELING ON I-95 AT HIGHWAY SPEED IN THE LEFT-MOST LANE, THE RPM DROPPED OFF DRAMATICALLY AND HOVERED AROUND 1,000 RPM. THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND TO MY PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. THE CAR NEVER STOPPED RUNNING COMPLETELY BUT WOULD NOT RUN PAST 1500 RPM (APPX.). I PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE CAR OFF, PUT IT IN PARK, AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. IT STARTED FINE, RAN FOR APPX. 2 MILES, AND DID THE SAME THING AGAIN ON 2-3 MORE OCCASIONS. ON ONE OCCASION, IT DIDN'T MAKE IT MORE THAN 20 YARDS. I WENT TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER (LESS THAN APPX. 5 MILES FROM WHERE THE PROBLEM FIRST BEGAN) AND WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AFTER A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED. I WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE ONGOING INVESTIGATION OR FORD'S KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROBLEM WHEN I ASKED WHY THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. GIVEN THE AGE OF THE CAR AND THE FACT THAT I HAD LITTLE CHOICE BUT TO AGREE TO THE REPAIR,I ASKED TO KEEP THE OLD THROTTLE BODY AND HAVE IT IN MY POSSESSION. WHILE WAITING FOR THE REPAIR, I USED THE INTERNET TO RESEARCH THE MATTER AND FOUND SEVERAL ARTICLES REGARDING MORE THAN 700,000 FORDS INCLUDING MY MAKE AND MODEL. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, I RAISED THE ISSUE WITH SOMEONE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT BEFORE I PAID FOR THE REPAIR. I WAS TOLD I WOULD NEED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR (APPX. $550) AND THERE WAS NO ACTIVE PROGRAM TO COVER THE REPAIR OR REIMBURSE ME AT THE TIME. BECAUSE I NEEDED TO RETURN TO WORK AND NEEDED MY CAR FOR WORK-RELATED TRAVEL IN A FEW DAYS, I PAID FOR THE REPAIR BUT WAS ASSURED IF A PROGRAM WAS INSTITUTED BY FORD TO COVER THE REPAIR, THE COST WOULD BE REFUNDED. *JS

AT FIRST THIS WAS INTERMITTENT BUT ON MY 25 MILE COMMUTE TO WORK IT HAPPENED ABOUT 8-10 TIMES LEAVING ME STALLED IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS ON HIGHWAYS AND IN MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS WITH NO SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER. I WAS TOLD BY FORD DEALER THAT IT IS A KNOWN PART FAILURE AND THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE ANY REPLACEMENTS ON SHELF TO REPAIR AND THAT FORD MIGHT BE LOOKING TO REPLACE THROTTLE BODY AND RECALL BUT DID NOT AN ANSWER AT THIS TIME. FORD IS LEAVING THEIR CUSTOMERS IN VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS AND POSSIBLE LAWSUITS IF NOTHING IS DONE. *JS
I WAS MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND WHEN I HIT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, I FELT THE LOSE MOMENTUM AND BY THE TIME I LOOKED DOWN, I WAS AROUND 55-60 MPH. I THEN TRIED TO GIVE IT GAS WHILE WATCHING MY RPM'S AND SAW THAT IT WAS ERRATICALLY JUMPING AROUND BETWEEN THE 1000 AND 1500 MARKS. SO I PULL OVER TO THE SHOULD AND OFF THE ROAD AND AS I START COMING TO A STOP, MY CAR BEINGS TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. SO I THROW IT IN PARK AND IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF THE CAR. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES ON THE PHONE WITH THE CLOSEST FORD DEALER I KNOW, I TURN ON THE CAR AND IT'S RUNNING LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. HOWEVER, IT DID TAKE A LITTLE LONG TO START, LIKE AS IF THE BATTERY WAS ON THE VERGE OF DYING. I MANAGED TO GET MY CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD THEM RUN A DIAGNOSTICS TEST ON IT AND SURE ENOUGH, THEY DIDN'T FIND A CODE. THEY EVEN HAD ME COME OUT AND WATCH THE TEST BE DONE, AND EVERYTHING WAS SHOWING A PASSING MARK.

I RECENTLY PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED WITH 43,000 MILES ON IT. IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE REGISTERED IN MY STATE I HAD TO HAVE AN EMISSIONS TEST DONE. AT SOME POINT DURING THE TEST THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM DETECTED A FAULT THAT DISABLED THE POWER STEERING. WHEN I GOT BACK IN THE CAR I HAD NO POWER STEERING AND THE TRIP COMPUTER LISTED THE FOLLOWING ERRORS: "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" AND "SERVICE ADVANCED TRAC". I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALER WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS BEING AN INTERNAL ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH THE EPS SYSTEM. THEY STATED THIS WASN'T AN ISSUE THAT COULD BE FIXED OTHER THEN REPLACING THE WHOLE POWER STEERING RACK. THE DEALER IS CHARGING $1,854.52 FOR THE JOB. I HAVE LOOKED UP THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND IT APPEARS THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING. I WASN'T DRIVING THE CAR AT THE TIME BUT THE TEST DID INVOLVE DRIVING THE CAR ON A DYNAMOMETER UP TO SPEEDS OF AROUND 60 MPH. IF THE SYSTEM FAILED THEN, IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED AT ANYTIME. I WAS ON I 81 SOUTH NEAR STAUNTON VA, PASSING A LINE OF TRUCKS WITH A LINE OF CARS BEHIND ME WHEN THE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER. I WAS DOWN TO 10 MPH BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE SHOULDER AND PULL OFF THE ROAD, ALL THE TIME BRACING FOR AN 80 MPH IMPACT. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING AT IDLE, BUT WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE THROTTLE AND THE WRENCH ICON DASH LIGHT WAS ON. I CUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE, THE LIGHT WENT OUT AND IT RAN LIKE NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM THE NEXT DAY, THEY CONFIRMED IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND SAID IT WASN'T COVERED BY THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THIS IS FRAUDULENT BECAUSE IT IS AN ENGINE PART, AND THE ENGINE IS PART OF THE POWER TRAIN. I ORDERED A REPLACEMENT OFF EBAY, AND CHANGED IT MYSELF. YOU ONLY HAVE REMOVE FOUR 8MM SCREWS AND THE ELECTRIC PLUG. I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE ELSE TO DO THE SAME. *JB

PULLED STORED FAULTED CODE - P2111 THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK OPEN. LOTS OF REPORTS ON WEB WITH SAME COMMON PROBLEM. THIS PART IS CLEARLY DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. GOING TO TAKE TO DEALER FOR REPAIR BUT WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO PAY AS CAR IS OUTSIDE THE 3 YR WARRANTY PERIOD. PART COST IS ~$400 SO NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS BILL. IT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES; ONE WHILE GOING TO WORK AND YESTERDAY WHEN DROPPING MY ELDERLY MOTHER OFF AT HER HOME. I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE HIGHWAY TO WORK AS THERE IS A LOT OF CONSTRUCTION AND NOWHERE TO TURN OFF THE ROAD SHOULD IT HAPPEN AGAIN. I AM NOW SITTING AT THE FORD SHOP AND THEY TELL ME IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY AND WILL COST $560 TO FIX. THIS CAR IS BARELY THREE YEARS OLD AND I AM A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED TO FIND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR PART WITHOUT A RESOLUTION. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING IN MY CAR. *TR

WHEN DRIVING THROUGH A INTERSECTION THE CAR JUST QUITS WORKING ALMOST WERE RAN INTO MANY TIMES. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY ARE REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
