MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND TURNED OFF 3 TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK. THE FIRST TIME AT ABOUT 9PM I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY SHUT OFF GOING AT ABOUT 65 MPH. IT WAS SCARY AS THE CAR SEEMED TO JERK AND SWERVE BEFORE SHUTTING OFF. I HAD TO CRUISE OFF TO THE RIGHT BUT WITH TRAFFIC BLOWING BY SO FAST AND MY CAR DROPPING SPEED SUPER FAST I ALMOST GOT INTO A CAR ACCIDENT. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON ABOUT 10 MIN LATER AND GOT OFF THE FREEWAY. ABOUT 5 MILES LATER THE CAR SHUT OFF AGAIN AT A SLOWER SPEED APPX. 15MPH. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR NO LONGER STARTED. I GOT TOWED HOME. TODAY 9/16/13 MY CAR STARTED AND I DROVE TO MY NEAREST FORD SERVICE CENTER (SUNRISE FORD NORTH HOLLYWOOD). WHILE ON MY WAY MY CAR SHUT OFF AGAIN. I WAITED 5 MIN. AND IT STARTED AGAIN. MY CAR WAS DIAGNOSED ($150.00) AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. TOTAL COST OF REPAIR IS GOING TO COST ME APPRX $480. THIS INCLUDES DIAGNOSTIC, PARTS AND LABOR. OH AND I WAS TOLD THAT THIS PART IS BACK ORDERED. POWERTRAIN WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THIS ISSUE AND MY 3 YEAR 36000 MILES EXPIRED. I WAS HAVING JERKING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR AT ABOUT 36,000 MILES, I WAS TOLD THAT MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AND THAT I HAD A BAD BATTERY. *TR
THIS CAR HAS TO HAVE A RECALL .. BOTTOM LINE ! I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 15MPH IN THE CITY MAKING A LEFT HAND T URN AND THE CAR SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND SPUTTERD I HIT THE GAS AND NOTHING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH WRENCH .. SAT THER FOR 10 MIN RESTARTED CAR AND MADE IT HOME .. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN CAR SINCE !!!! AND TODAY IS THE 18TH .. SIMPLY TO SCARED !! AFTER READING ALL INFO ON LINE IM LEANING TOWARD THE ( THROTTLE BODY ) BUT THIS EXPENCE I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET DELARSHIP SAYS AROUND 5-6 HUNDRED DOLLARS THAT I DONT HAVE RIGHT NOW .. SO I HAVE TO WALK PAST A CAR THAT IM STILL PAYING ON TO GET ON THE BUS UNTIL I HAVE ENOUGH TO FIX ... FORD ( FIX OR REPAIR DAILY ) IS WHAT FORD STANDS FOR !!!!!
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN MY CAR STALLED AND A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON, AND DROVE TO MY MECHANIC. HE DROVE AROUND TO TRY AND RE CREATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER 100 OR SO MILES IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE CODES P2111 AND P2112 WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE THROTTLE BODY CODES. I HAD TO PAY TO GET THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED BECAUSE IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY AND IS NOT A RECALLED PART. *TR
I WAS SLOWING TO EXIT THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE PULL THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING EXTREMELY ROUGHLY AND I TURNED IT OFF. AFTER ABOUT 15 SECONDS, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND IT ACTED NORMALLY. I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE ON MY WAY. I PARKED THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES AND HAD NORMAL RESTARTS. I HEADED HOME. I ONLY GOT A FEW MILES BEFORE THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE YELLOW ENGINE LIGHT. I WAS NOT POSSIBLE AT THIS POINT TO RESTART THE CAR WITHOUT THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT COMING ON IMMEDIATELY. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THEY DETERMINED THE CAR HAD AN ERROR CODE P2111. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLEBODY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40MPH ON A SIX LANE DIVIDED ROAD, THE WRENCH CAUTION LIGHT APPEARED (INDICATING TRANSMISSION/THROTTLE MALFUNCTION). THE ENGINE RPM IMMEDIATELY DROPPED AND BEGAN FLUCTUATING AROUND 1,000 AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE TO ACCELERATOR INPUTS. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE CLEAR OF TRAFFIC. THE MAXIMUM SPEED THAT COULD BE ATTAINED AT THE FLUCTUATING RPM WAS 14 MPH. IT IS A MIRACLE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN REAR END COLLISION AS THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT WAS 45MPH. CAR WAS ALLOWED TO IDLE AT THE REDUCED RPM WHILE DRIVER INSPECTED THE ENGINE AND PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR. THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON (WITH A LITTLE BIT OF TROUBLE TURNING OVER). THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ONCE ON 26AUG2013, FOUR TIMES ON 13SEP2013, AND ONCE ON 14SEP2013. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN SINCE THE LAST OCCURRENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO RECOMMENDED TAKING IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP DUE TO ONLY HAVING 1,400 MILES LEFT ON THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO PULL P2111 CODE. AFTER RECEIVING AN EXORBITANT QUOTE FOR THE REPAIR ($230 FOR PART, $280 FOR LABOR) WITH NO ESTIMATED DELIVERY DATE FOR THE BACKORDERED PART, THE REPAIR WAS DENIED TO ALLOW FOR FURTHER RESEARCH. THE DEALER HAS ABSOLUTELY NO QUALMS RELEASING THE CAR WITH A KNOWN MALFUNCTION, PRESENTING A HAZARD TO THE DRIVER AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD. A CAR THAT IMMEDIATELY DECELERATES SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS DANGEROUS AS AN UNCOMMANDED ACCELERATION. TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY/DEATH, FORD SHOULD ISSUE AND IMMEDIATE RECALL FOR THE FAILING THROTTLE BODY. *TR
VEHICLE STALLED DURING MORNING TRAFFIC. PULLED TO SIDE AND RESTARTED. STALLED AGAIN. HAD TO GET CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY SHIFTS EXTREMELY HARD AT MANY DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND DIFFERENT GEARS. VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY PRODUCES TRANSMISSION FLARE AT MANY DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND DIFFERENT GEARS. VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY HESITATES UNTIL GEARS ENGAGE. VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY SLIPS OUT OF DRIVE. *TR
AS I WAS GOING TO WORK JUST BEFORE 5 PM - I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 35 MPH BUT LOST POWER YET WAS ABLE TO ROLL SLIGHTLY OFF THE ROAD. I PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL TO NO AVAIL. I CALL THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF FORD IN OUR TOWN AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT MORNING. (THIS HAD HAPPENED TO ME ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE AS I WAS PULLING INTO MY MOTHER'S DRIVEWAY.) I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND CONTINUE TO WORK. AS I WAS LEAVING WORK, I ONLY GOT ABOUT 1/10 OF A MILE AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL BUT HAD NO POWER. EACH TIME I NOTICED A "WRENCH" LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD. I AGAIN PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ARRIVED HE SAID HE HAD TOWED ONE THE PREVIOUS DAY WITH THE SAME TROUBLE. LUCKILY, MINE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD THE NEXT DAY BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT IT WAS THE "THROTTLE BLOCK". IT WAS READY FOR PICK UP LATER THAT DAY, BUT I WAS GOING OUT OF TOWN AND WHEN I RETURNED TO PICK IT UP - THEY PULLED THE PAPERWORK FOR ANOTHER CAR (NOT MINE) AT FIRST THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I ALSO LEARNED THAT MY GRANDDAUGHTER 2010 FUSION HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITHIN A FEW WEEKS. THIS HAS TO BE A DEFECTIVE PART ! I HOPE THAT FORD WILL MAKE A RECALL FOR THE "THROTTLE BLOCK" AND REPAY ALL THOSE WHO HAVE HAD TO PAY BECAUSE THEIR WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND THE CAR JERKS AND THEN DECELERATES, CANNOT PUSH THE GAS AS IT WILL DO NOTHING, THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT COMES ON AND YOU HAVE TO PULL OVER SHUT THE CAR OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A MINUTE AND CRANK IT BACK UP. THIS HAPPENED ONLY ONCE AT FIRST, HOWEVER, NOW OCCURS VERY FREQUENTLY DURING INTERSTATE DRIVING. SO I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP, TO GET A PRICE CHECK ON THE PART AS COMPUTER THREW CODE P2111, WHO ADVISED THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS CAR AND CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY FORD HAS NOT DONE A RE-CALL ON THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. I REALLY THINK SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED FROM THEIR VEHICLE JUST DECIDING IT WANTS TO DECELERATE WHILE DRIVING. *TR
THIS IS THE THIRD INCIDENT (DIFFERENT DAYS) WHERE I'VE BEEN DRIVING AND THE CAR STARTS TO LOSE POWER. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR STUTTERS AND LOSES POWER. THE PAST TWO TIMES (DIFFERENT DAYS), IT HAPPENED ONCE AND I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED AND IT WAS FINE. TODAY I WENT 3-4 MILES IN THE CITY AND IT HAPPENED 5-6 TIMES IN A SHORT PERIOD. I HAVE A SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT WITH THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN OUR AREA. THEY SAID THEY DO THIS SAME REPAIR (THROTTLE) 2-3 TIMES A WEEK. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED AND DISGUSTED WITH FORD. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS REPORTS AND STILL NO RECALL. ARE THEY WAITING UNTIL SOMEONE GETS KILLED BEFORE THEY WILL DO SOMETHING? THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WOULD COST ABOUT $500 AND LUCKILY THEY HAVE THE PART IN STOCK. *TR
DRIVING ALL OF A SUDDEN CAR LOOSES POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD COULD OF CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IF AT THAT MOMENT THERE WERE OTHER CARS CLOSE BY WOULD NOT START UP RIGHT WAS AFRAID CALLED AAA FOR TOE BACK TO MY HOUSE THIS IS NOT WRIGHT IM GOING TO HAVE TO FIX IT BUT FORD SHOULD REIMBURST ME & NOW IM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR
LOST ENGINE POWER WHILE DRIVING AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE OR MAINTAIN SPEED. ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING HOWEVER. TURNED OFF CAR AND RESTARTED AND ACCELERATION WORKED LIKE NORMAL. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY (9/18/2013).
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES AFTERWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY MOTOR ASSEMBLY AND THE THROTTLE SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,485 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000. UPDATED 11/14/13*CN
WE LEFT OUR HOME IN NORTH FORT MYERS, FL, FRIDAY MORNING AND TRAVELED NORTH ON ROUTE 75. AROUND MILE MARKER 217, AND DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF THE 3 LANE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED. WE COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER SEVERAL ON-OFF ATTEMPTS WE LIMPED OFF THE HIGHWAY VIA THE EXIT AND INTO THE TIRE CHOICE CAR CARE SHOP IN BRADENTON, FL. THEIR COMPUTER DETERMINED THE PROBLEM TO BE THE THROTTLE BODY MOTOR ASSEMBLY, WHICH THEY REPLACED ALONG WITH THE THROTTLE BODY SWITCH. IF A VEHICLE HAD BEEN BEHIND US AT THE TIME ON RT. 75, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED!!!
DROVE OFF FROM WORK AND SHORTLY AFTER I NOTICED THE CAR SLOWED DOWN AND STARTED TO VIBRATE AND FINALLY LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, I TURNED OFF CAR THEN TRIED TO RESTART BUT IT DID THE SAME THING. I THEN DECIDED TO SHUT IT OFF AGAIN AND GIVE IT MORE TIME SURELY AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT SEEMED TO BE FINE BUT RIGHT BEFORE GETTING HOME IT HAPPENED AGAIN. HUSBAND DROVE TO AUTOZONE AND HAD A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND RESULTS WERE..."TROUBLE SHOOTING PROBLEM FROM AUTO ZONE CODE P2111 THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM". *TR
MY CAR DIED OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AFTER PICKING UP MY DAUGHTER FROM SCHOOL. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED... YET. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF REPORTS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM AND FORD ACKNOWLEDGES THE PART AS DEFECTIVE, ALTHOUGH THERE HAS BEEN NO FORMAL RECALL. HOPEFULLY FORD WILL DO RIGHT BY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE BEFORE A HORRIBLE TRAGEDY BEFALLS A FAMILY DUE TO THEIR NEGLIGENCE. *TR
WHILE GOING TO FIRST TO SECOND GEAR THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUDDERS AND I LOST POWER AND THE "WRENCH" SYMBOL ON THE DASH CAME ON. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, VERY ROUGHLY, BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE BRAKES STILL WORKED AND I PULLED OVER. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE WITH SOME DIFFICULTY. THIS HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES. THE FIRST TIME I THOUGHT I WAS IN TOO LOW OF A GEAR AND STALLED IT. BUT SINCE I REALIZED IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED WHILE ACCELERATING AND GOING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. *TR
CAR WOULD STALL WHILE DRIVING AND THE WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. WENT TO AUTOZONE TO GET A FREE ENGINE CHECK CODE. IT WAS P2111. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, LOOKS LIKE FORD HAD RELEASED A NEW THROTTLE BODY PART IN ITS NEW VERSIONS WITHOUT DOING A RECALL ON ITS PAST VERSIONS. HOPEFULLY THIS CAN HELP SAVES LIVES INCASE SOMEONE GETS STALLED ON THE FREEWAY GOING 70MPH +. *TR
ONGOING ISSUE WITH ACCELERATION DEVELOPED INTO A MALFUNCTION IN THE THROTTLE BODY. I HAD NOTICED INTERMITTENT STUTTERS DURING ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION. THIS TIME, THE CAR LOST POWER TO ACCELERATE, VIBRATED VIOLENTLY, AND FORCED ME TO PULL OVER FOR FEAR OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. NOW IT IS RECURRING AND ALTHOUGH THE CODE ERASES AND IT SEEMS TO BE FINE, IT WILL SUDDENLY FAIL TO OPERATE PROPERLY AND CAUSE ME TO CUT OUT OF TRAFFIC AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. *TR
WHEN I DRIVE ON I26 IN NC GOING UP HILL. GAS PEDDLER JUST QUIT WORKING AND SLOW SPEED DOWN FAST. I WAS HURRY PULL OVER. DANG 18 WHEELER IS PISS OFF ME FOR FRONT OF TRUCK. THEY BLOW HORN LOUD WHICH I KNOW THEY MAD ME. I HAVE NO CHOICE TO PULL FRONT TRUCK BECAUSE THEY CAN SLOW DOWN. I NOT WANT CAR IN MIDDLE OF HWY. THAT SCARE ME. I TURN OFF FOR MIN TO CALM DOWN MY SELF. THEN I TRY START AGAIN AND GAS PEDDLER BACK WORKING. BUT NEXT DAY I WAS IN LOCAL STORE IT DID AGAIN SO I PULL OVER SIDE RD I DID HIT MAILBOX BECAUSE I CAN NOT SPEED UP. FORD DEALER ACT LIKE THEY NOT KNOW WHY. AFTER I READ WEBSITE LEARN THAT MANY OF 2010 FUSION HAVE SAME PROBLEM. I WENT BACK SHOW THE PRINT. HE SAY OHOH YEAH I KNOW THIS THEN SAY 400 DOLLAR CHANGE PART IN JUST 30 MIN. I REFUSE BUY BECAUSE HE LIE TO ME. WHAT CAN I DO? WHAT IS CORRECT PRICE? *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT WHERE I'VE BEEN DRIVING AND THE CAR STARTED TO LOSE POWER. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR STARTED STUTTERING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART. IT STARTED A LITTLE ROUGH SO I TURNED OFF THE AIR, AND IT DROVE FINE. I'M SEEING A LOT OF COMMENTS FROM OTHERS THAT THEY ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT ENDS UP BEING THE THROTTLE. I'M NOW DECIDING MY NEXT STEP. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON I-65 AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH IN THE FAR LEFT LANE WHEN I LOST ACCELERATION. THE THROTTLE CONTROL/DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS RAPIDLY SLOWING IN DENSE TRAFFIC WITH NOWHERE TO LULL OFF ON THE LEFT SIDE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE RIGHT THROUGH 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC AS THE CAR SHUT OFF. I CALLED MY MECHANIC WHO ADVISED ME TO RESTART IT AND DRIVE TO SAFETY IF POSSIBLE. I DONE SO AND THE WARNING LIGHT WAS GONE AND THE CAR RAN NORMALLY. I TOOK IT TO MY FATHER'S WHO USED A CODE SCANNER AND FOUND A SAVED CODE OF P2111. THIS IS THE CODE FOR TAC STUCK OPEN. AFTER INVESTIGATION I FOUND THAT FORD HAS NUMEROUS FAULTY THROTTLE BODY UNITS WHICH REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. I BELIEVE THE SHEER VOLUME OF THESE ISSUES ARE INDICATIVE OF A BAD PRODUCT WHICH PRODUCES A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD. I COULD HAVE STALLED AND CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF I WASN'T ABLE TO GET TO THE RIGHT IN TIME. THIS ALSO COULD POSE A RISK IF SOMEONE WAS TURNING LEFT THROUGH TRAFFIC. *TR
DRIVING TO WORK ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, GOING APPROXIMATELY 62 MILES PER HOUR, WHEN MY CAR JUST STARTED TO DIE. I WENT FROM 62 MILES PER HOUR, DOWN TO ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR IN A FEW SECONDS, MY WRENCH WARNING LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WERE ON, I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT I WAS NOT REAR ENDED OR THAT I WAS NOT THE CAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS BEST I COULD, TURNED THE CAR OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED IT AND TRIED TO MOVE, IT CHUGGED AND THERE WAS NOT ANY POWER. I SAT FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES, AND TRIED AGAIN, I WAS ABLE TO GET ANOTHER COUPLE OF MILES TO WORK. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY, THE COST IS $425.00 PLUS TAX TO FIX, MADE ME SICK. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THE CAR SLOWED DOWN SHAKE BAD AND NO THROTTLE RESPONSE AT ALL, HAD IT TOWED IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FAILURE, NOT COVERED UNDER POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WRENCH WARNING INDICATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AT A LOW SPEED. THE CONTACT PERFORMED THE REPAIR HIMSELF WHICH INCLUDED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

LUCKILY I HAD GOOD CONTROL OF THE CAR TO PULL OFF THE INTERSTATE . THE CAR LOST ALL POWER AND WOULDN'T RESPONSE TO THROTTLE INPUT. THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF AND AFTER 10 MINUTES, ATTEMPT TO RESTART CAR WHICH WAS SUCCESSFUL. CAR RUN NORMALLY FOR ABOUT 140 ADDITIONAL MILES, THEN STALLED TO LOW POWER AND LACK OF THROTTLE RESPONSE YET AGAIN. TURNING OFF AND THEN TURNING BACK ON WAS UNSUCCESSFUL IN GETTING THE VEHICLE TO RUN NORMAL AGAIN. TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED AND VEHICLE TOWED TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS THE CULPRIT AND WAS ON BACKORDER. IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, WHY ARE PEOPLE BEING PUT AT RISK FOR SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH, WITHOUT BEING INFORMED OF THE POTENTIAL OF PROBABLE STALLING. *TR
DRIVING VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE STARTS SURGING AND FAILS TO RESPONSE TO GAS PEDAL MOVEMENT. THE DTC CODE DISPLAYED TWO DAYS LATER WITH CODE READER CONNECT PRE-FAILURE WAS P2111. *TR
INCIDENT # 1 - I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN AND NOTICED THAT MY CAR HAD NO POWER AND IT WAS JUST CHUGGING SO TO SPEAK, I PRESSED THE GAS PETAL TO THE FLOOR AND HAD NO POWER. THERE WAS A SIDE STREET CLOSE I CHUGGED INTO THIS STREET. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND IT STARTED AS NORMAL. INCIDENT #2 - THREE (3) DAY AFTER ABOVE INCIDENT #1, I WAS PULLING OUT OF A RESTAURANT PARKING LOT ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY AND MY CAR TOTALLY LOST POWER, THERE WAS ANOTHER EXIT TO THE RESTAURANT I CHUGGED INTO THAT EXIT. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND IT STARTED AS NORMAL. INCIDENT #3 - ONE (1) DAY AFTER ABOVE INCIDENT #2, I WAS ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, DRIVING 55 MPH AND I HEARD THE CAR POWER DOWN AND I HAD NO POWER AT ALL. I WAS IN A LANE WITHOUT A SHOULDER, JUST A CONCRETE DIVIDER. I CHUGGED OVER TO THE SMALL AREA BETWEEN THE HIGHWAY AND THE CONCRETE DIVIDER. I COASTED ON THIS AREA UNTIL I CAME TO THE END OF THE DIVIDER AND I TURNED THE KEY OFF AND CALLED MY HUSBAND, WE WERE ONCE AGAIN ABLE TO START IT AND IT WAS TAKEN TO A GARAGE AND LEFT FOR EVALUATION. THEY CHECKED OUT THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE OF THE THROTTLE BODY WITH THE FORD FUSION AND ADVISED US TO CALL THE DEALER (EDIE GILSTRAP MOTORS, SALEM, IN). OUR 3 YEAR 36,000 MILE WARRANTY HAD JUST EXPIRED IN AUGUST AND THE DEALER WOULD NOT HONOR IT, EVEN THOUGH THEY SAID IT WAS A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE OF THE "THROTTLE BODY". *LN UPDATED 12/31/2013 *JS

I WAS ABLE TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC TEST DONE AT OREILYS AND THE CODE P1121 (OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT) INDICATED THAT THE THROTTLE CONTROL WAS STUCK OPEN. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR ON WITHOUT INCIDENT. IT HAS CUT OFF SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN WITHOUT WARNING, BUT I CONTINUE TO DRIVE BECAUSE THIS IS MY ONLY FORM OF TRANSPORTATION. IT IS TOTALLY UNPREDICTABLE AND DANGEROUS!!! AFTER TALKING TO OTHER FORD OWNERS AND DOING MY RESEARCH ONLINE I SEE THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM. THIS IS UNSAFE AND THE PART SHOULD BE RECALLED!!!! WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, I EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. THE IGNITION AND ELECTRICAL POWER REMAINED ON, BUT THE THROTTLE BECAME COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND I TURNED THE IGNITION COMPLETELY OFF. I TURNED IT ON A MINUTE LATER, THE CAR STARTED UP, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THROTTLE RESPONSE WAS BACK TO NORMAL. I DROVE TO MY NEAREST FORD DEALER WHERE I WAS TOLD IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM WITH A FAILED THROTTLE BODY. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A HUGE ACCIDENT, BUT THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY AT THE TIME.

FRIDAY I WAS TRAVELING ON A THREE LANE INTERSTATE IN TRAFFIC AND PASSING A VEHICLE IN THE LEFT HAND LANE WHEN I REALIZED THAT I HAD COMPLETELY LOST POWER. EVERYTHING WAS WORKING, STEERING, AIR, RADIO, ETC. BUT THERE WAS NO POWER WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS PLACED IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS I MADE MY WAY WITHOUT POWER TO THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND THE SIDE OF THE ROAD COASTING SLOWLY. AS I SLOWED I ONCE TRIED MOVING THE CAR FROM DRIVE TO LOW BUT STILL NO POWER. WHEN MY CAR HAD ALMOST STOPPED I COULD FEEL A BUMPY LOW POWER AS I PRESSED THE GAS. THE CAR STOPPED AND I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. I IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO START THE CAR AGAIN BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. IT WAS LIKE THE STARTER WAS BAD, BUT AFTER 5 MINUTES THE CAR STARTED AND BEHAVED NORMALLY. THE FIRST TIME, WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, IN HEAVY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND I HAD TO MAKE IT ACROSS 2 LANES OF BUMPER-TO-BUMPER TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE MY TRIP. THE NEXT DAY IT DID IT AGAIN, TWICE WITHIN 2 MILES OF EACH OCCURRENCE, ALSO WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE SECOND TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE CONTROL AND IT WAS ROUGHLY $350 TO HAVE IT FIXED, BECAUSE IT WAS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY AND IT ISN'T COVERED UNDER THE 5YR 60,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. IT ONLY HAPPENED TO ME WHILE HIGHWAY DRIVING WITH SPEEDS 70 AND ABOVE. NOT A FUN FEELING HAVING YOUR CAR QUIT UNEXPECTEDLY DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING. IT'S OBVIOUS FORD IS HAVING MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THE SAME COMPONENT, BASED ALL THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN ON THE INTERNET. MY CAR'S THROTTLE HAS FAILED ABOUT 20 TIMES OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS. ABOUT 10 OF THOSE FAILURES OCCURRED ON A DANGEROUS INTERSTATE HIGHWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE CAR LOSES THROTTLE AND MUST BE PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF, AND RESTARTED EACH TIME. THE POTENTIAL FOR AN ACCIDENT WAS HIGH AND I CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY. *TR

PLEASE ENCOURAGE A MANDATORY RECALL SO THAT LIVES ARE NOT LOST! I WAS FORTUNATE TO NOT HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BUT SOMEONE ELSE MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. WHILE DRIVING UPON FOUR OCCASIONS, THE ENGINE STOPPED, RESULTING IN A LOSS OF SPEED AND PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AMID TRAFFIC OR A DRIVING LANE CLOSEST TO THE CURB. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT IMMEDIATELY ILLUMINATED, WHICH NORMALLY INDICATES A POWERTRAIN ISSUE; HOWEVER, DURING THE 4TH OCCASION, THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OFF AND THEN THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AFTER SPEAKING WITH SEVERAL SERVICE PERSONNEL MEMBERS AND RECEIVING GUIDANCE, IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED TO BE THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. WHILE QUESTIONING MY VEHICLE'S SERVICE CONCERNS, I ENCOUNTERED ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL AT MY DEALERSHIP WITH THE SAME CAR AND ISSUE, WHICH WAS SOLVED BY REPLACING THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT, I LET THE CAR REST FOR 5 MINUTES, STARTED THE CAR BACK UP WITH EASE AND WITHOUT THE SAME ISSUE FOR 7 DAYS. THE SUBSEQUENT INCIDENCES OCCURRED WITHIN A 3 HOUR PERIOD. ALTHOUGH NOT ON THE HIGHWAY EACH TIME, I FEARED A SEVERE ACCIDENT AND STUCK TO CITY STREETS. *TR

WHILE TRAVELING ON OHIO ROUTE 306, THE CAR LOST ALL THROTTLE POWER ABRUPTLY, IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE BODY, I WENT FROM 45 TO ZERO ON AN INCLINE WITH MANY CARS BEHIND ME HONKING. I RESTARTED THE CAR BUT WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING I HAD NO THROTTLE POWER AT ALL. FORD DOES NOT SEE A PROBLEM HERE AND SAID IT IS NOT A MAJOR ISSUE. HAD MY DAUGHTER BEEN DRIVING AND THIS HAPPENED TO HER, I WOULD HAVE BEEN CONCERNED FOR HER SAFETY WITH THE HEAVY TRAFFIC AND DANGEROUS CONDITIONS GETTING OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THOUGH I WAS NOT AS CONCERNED FOR MYSELF, THE FAILURE PUT ME IN AN EXTREMELY VULNERABLE AND DANGEROUS STATE. *TR
ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTIONED ON OUR 2010 FORD FUSION WHILE ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH. WITHOUT WARNING, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE ACCELERATOR AND I WAS FORCED TO COAST OVER TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO CONTROL ACCELERATION. THANKFULLY THE FREEWAY WAS NOT TOO BUSY AND GETTING TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT POWER WAS POSSIBLE. I AM PAYING FOR THE COST OF REPAIR. AFTER READING SEVERAL ARTICLES ABOUT THE NHTSA LOOKING INTO THE SITUATION, I BELIEVE THIS MALFUNCTION (WHICH IS COMMON) POSES A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND WARRANTS A RECALL. LOSING ACCELERATION ABILITY WITHOUT WARNING AT THE WRONG TIME COULD PROVE FATAL FOR THE DRIVER AND OTHER DRIVERS NEARBY. *JB

CAR STOPPED JUST AS I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN IN A BUSY INTERSECTION. PUT FLASHERS ON, RE-STARTED THE CAR AND LIMPED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION ON A YELLOW LIGHT, AND PULLED OVER. LIMPED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP 7 MILES AWAY AND HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED FOR $444. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED MULTIPLE TIMES, BEFORE IT STOPPED COMPLETELY. UPDATED 10/22/13
IT FIRST HAPPENED ON TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 3, 2013 WHILE DRIVING ON A MAIN ROAD RETURNING TO MY HOME. THE SPEED WAS 50 MILES PER HOUR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN A WRENCH TOOL LIGHT SHINES AND MY CAR JUST SLOWS DOWN TO 5 MILES AND THEN STOPS. LUCKILY IT WAS LATE AT NIGHT AND I WAS IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND COULD TURN INTO A DRIVEWAY OF A CAR WASH. IT WAS A SCARY THING AND I WAS ALL ALONE. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND SAT FOR A MINUTE AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. I WAS ABLE TO GO 1 MILE TO MY HOME AND PARK THE CAR. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A FLUKE. I DIDN'T DRIVE IT AGAIN UNTIL THURSDAY WHEN IT OCCURRED ON THE SAME STREET CLOSE TO THE SAME PLACE. I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY A CAR BEHIND ME. ON SATURDAY, I WAS TRAVELING THE TOLL ROAD AND GOING 65 MILES PER HOUR TRYING TO GET TO A BIBLE STUDY WHEN IT JUST SLOWED AND QUIT. I HAD NUMEROUS CARS ROARING AROUND ME. I STOPPED THE ENGINE AND STARTED IT AGAIN. IT DID IT 3 MORE TIMES BEFORE I GOT TO MY LOCATION. AFTER MY MEETING I WENT DIRECTLY TO MY FORD DEALER. I HAD TO RENT A CAR FROM THE AIRPORT BECAUSE THEIR SERVICE WAS CLOSING AND THEY COULDN'T START ON IT UNTIL MONDAY (TODAY) SEPTEMBER 9TH. I FOUND OUT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER MY POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. WITH MY SENIOR DISCOUNT IT IS COSTING ME $595.84. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS CARD FOR 16 MONTHS. IT HAD 39K MILES ON IT WHEN I BOUGHT IT. NOW I SEE THIS THING HAS HAPPENED TO MANY MORE CARS. WHEN IS IT GOING TO STOP? FORD MUST DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. *TR
PE13-003 MY 2009-2011 FORD ESCAPE, FUSION, MARINER AND MILAN ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION 21-FEB-2013 MY 2010 FORD FUSION 4 CYLINDER HAS MALFUNCTIONED TWICE IN TWO DAYS WITH SUDDEN POWER LOSS AND THE WRENCH ICON OF THE GAUGE CLUSTER. EACH TIME, THE ENGINE WOULD DROP TO 800 RPM AND CRAWL AT LESS THEN 20 MPH. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS NEAR HUNT AUTO AS LEAVING A 4-WAY STOP ON SUNDAY WITH NEAR 90 DEGREE HEAT. THE SECOND WAS MONDAY WHILE ON I-65 N NEAR MILLERSVILLE AT 68 MPH. SCARY. BOTH TIMES I HAD TO PULL OVER, INSPECT THE IDLE BEHAVIOR, TURN THE CAR OFF, WAIT 30 SECONDS THEN TURN-ON AGAIN FINE WITH NORMAL BEHAVIOR. AFTER RESEARCH, THIS APPEARS TO BE UNDER INVESTIGATION BY THE NHTSA SINCE FEB 2013 AS LIKELY THROTTLE BODY ISSUES OF THIS ENGINE TYPE. I HAVE SENT THIS INFO TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER WWW.HUNTAUTO.COM. ENGINE DROPPED TO 900 RPM. COASTED TO STOP. VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATION. TURNED ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED MADE IT TO TOWN. DIAGNOSED BY DEALERSHIP AS THROTTLE BODY. PARTS NOT AVAILABLE TILL OCTOBER. THEY HAVE CAR WE HAVE RENTAL BECAUSE WE HAD EXTENDED WARRANTY. IF WE DIDN'T HAVE THAT WE WOULD BE IN TROUBLE. *JB
