IT FIRST STARTED ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 75MPH. MY CAR JERKED AND WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER AND SHUT OFF MY CAR, TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT A MONTH. NOW IT HAPPENS MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY, IT GOES ABOUT 100 FEET BEFORE REPEATING BUT NOW MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, AND MY CARS SHAKES WHEN I STOP AND PULL OVER. I GOT THE CODE CHECKED AND IT SAYS IT'S THE THROTTLE BODY PLATE GETTING STUCK, I HAVE TRIED CLEANING IT ALREADY WITH THROTTLE BODY CLEANER AND IT HASN'T HELPED AT ALL. I HAVE SEEN MANY POSTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING. NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WHEN MY CAR SHUTS DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY OR ROAD. *JS
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH. THE CAR SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN AND STARTED COASTING. PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL DID NOTHING. THE THROTTLE CONTROL/TRANSMISSION WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I COASTED OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AND TURNED OFF MY CAR. I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON, WARNING LIGHT WAS GONE, CAR DROVE FINE THE REST OF THE WAY TO MY DESTINATION. NEXT MORNING THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED. STOPPED AT AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP. THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. GOT BACK ON THE HIGHWAY AND MADE IT TO MY DESTINATION WITHOUT INCIDENT. *TR
MY 2010 FORD FUSION HAS STALLED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED POSITION. SEVERAL TIMES IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION WHEN TURNING LEFT, STOP WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY FREEWAY, AND QUICKLY ACCELERATE WHEN MY FOOT HAS BEEN ON THE BRAKE PEDDLE. *TR
WE JUST BOUGHT THE CAR THE DAY BEFORE AND AS MY SON BACKED IT OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY THE CAR LOST POWER. AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND ON AGAIN HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR NORMALLY. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS. BUT AFTER ABOUT TWO WEEKS, THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN AT ABOUT 40MPH WHEN IT SUDDENLY LOST POWER. AFTER COASTING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND ON AGAIN IT BRIEFLY REGAINED POWER BUT THE CAR WENT ONLY ABOUT 100FT BEFORE LOSING POWER AGAIN. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT FOR 20 MINUTES WE WERE ABLE TO START IT AND DRIVE THE REMAINING HALF MILE HOME. WE HAD DISMISSED THE FIRST INCIDENT AS POSSIBLY BEING A MISTAKE ON THE PART OF MY SON DRIVING AN UNFAMILIAR VEHICLE AND PERHAPS NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. BUT THE SECOND INCIDENT WAS CLEARLY AN INDICATION OF A FAILURE ON THE PART OF THE VEHICLE. IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT, A LOSS IN POWER COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME AND COULD POTENTIALLY LEAVE US HELPLESS WITHOUT POWER IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A FORD DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A BAD THROTTLE BODY. THEY REPLACED IT AT A COST TO US OF $537. A THROTTLE BODY THAT FAILS AT LESS THAN 100,000 MILES IS DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS I HAVE BEEN HAVING AN ISSUE WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD FORD FUSION (2010) STARTED STALLING OUT AT RANDOM TIMES FOR NO APPARENT REASON. WHEN THIS HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER AND ASKED HIM WHAT MAY BE WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE AND HE SAID THAT THERE WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO STALL OCCASIONALLY AND THAT IT WOULD COST ME AROUND $350 FOR THE PART ALONE. I BELIEVE THIS TO A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE ONE TIME THIS HAPPENED TO ME I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60MPH WITH A SEMI-TRUCK BEHIND ME AND THE TRUCKER CAME VERY CLOSE TO HITTING ME. I ALSO HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME AT AN INTERSECTION WHILE TAKING OFF FROM A RED LIGHT, TURNING LEFT. I HAVE DONE SOME ONLINE RESEARCH ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND IT DOES SEEM TO BE A PROBLEM AMONGST MANY FORD FUSION OWNERS IN CARS THAT ARE ONLY 2 OR 3 YEARS OLD. IF THIS IS SUCH A COMMON OCCURRENCE THAT FORD DEALERS KNOW THAT THIS ISSUE EXISTS THEN I ASK WHY HASN'T THIS PART BEEN RECALLED? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
CAR LOST POWER TOOL LIGHT CAME ON. TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON STARTED HARD BUT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE 10 MORE MILES AND IT DID THE SAME THING. VERY DANGEROUS ON EXPRESSWAY LOOSING POWER. *TR
WAS DRIVING ON A STATE ROAD GOING APPROXIMATELY 40-45 MPH. BEGAN TO ACCELERATE TO GO UP AN INCLINE AND THEN ENGINE SPUTTERED AND THEN SHUT OFF. SAME THING HAPPENED A WEEK LATER GOING ABOUT 5-10 MPH WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP SIGN ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE PROBLEM WAS A BAD THROTTLE BODY WHICH WAS REPLACED. *TR
2010 FORD FUSION / 2.5L SE. ONE THE FREEWAY AT A SPEED OF 70MPH AND ENGINE RPM AT 2100 AND TRANSMISSION IN D THE THROTTLE STOPPED RESPONDING AND THE VEHICLE SPEED BEGAN TO RAPIDLY DECREASE. THE ENGINE RPM DROPPED TO 900. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE OF FREEWAY TRAFFIC AND NO SHOULDER. AFTER VEHICLE THROTTLE STOPPED RESPONDING PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL (NOW GLIDING DOWN THE FREEWAY) AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, ENGINE RPM RETURNED TO 900 AND NO THROTTLE CONTROL. WAS NEARLY HIT WHILE TRYING TO GLIDE TO THE RIGHT LANE BY TRAFFIC. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS GLIDED TO A STOP SHUT THE CAR OFF AND REMOVED KEY AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES AS SEMI'S CAME WITHIN INCHES OF MY VEHICLE AT 70MPH. RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THROTTLE RESPONDED. AFTER TWO MINUTES OF DRIVING THE ISSUE REPEATED AGAIN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT APPROX 60 WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR WAS RUNNING BUT WHEN I PUSHED ON THE GAS NOTHING HAPPENED... AND THE WRENCH ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON.... THE CAR COASTED TO A STOP FINALLY... I THEN SHUT OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT.. AND NO PROB THEN ON.. SO FAR... *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. AFTER MERGING TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE FAILURE SHORTLY RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
GOING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH, ENGINE JUST DIES ON ME, FORCING ME TO PULL OVER, IT LOOSES ALL POWER BUT IT GOES TO A VERY LOW RPM'S FOR A WHILE, ENGINE SHAKES AND AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES JUST TURN OFF, I TURN IT BACK ON AND IT RUNS LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAS OUT OF TIME APPROXIMATELY 200 MILES AWAY FROM HOME, THIS CONDITION HAPPENED TO ME FOR ABOUT 15 TIMES IN A 100 MILES RANGE. SOME TIMES IT TAKES PLACE JUST AFTER LEAVING A PARKING LOT, SOME OTHER TIMES AT 20 MPH SO IT IS VERY UNPREDICTIBLE BUT AT THE SAME TIME PRETTY DANGEROUS. EVERY ONCE ON A WHILE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES OFF, THEN IT IS NOT THERE. *TT
I WAS TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE AT 65-70 MPH, WHEN MY FUSION'S RPM'S ALL OF A SUDDEN DROPPED TO 1 AND WOULD NOT REACT TO THE GAS PEDAL, LUCKILY I WAS IN THE SLOW LANE AND MANAGED TO COAST OFF THE INTERSTATE. FORTUNATELY FOR ME THIS WAS DURING NON-RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, OTHERWISE IT COULD HAVE BEEN QUITE DANGEROUS WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF CONTINUED INTERSTATE TRAFFIC. AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND SITTING FOR A FEW MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO START THE ENGINE AND CONTINUE TO MY POINT OF DESTINATION. I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THE CAUSE IS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, WHERE I WAS ADVISED THE PART WAS ON A LENGTHY BACK ORDER AND DUE TO ME BEING JUST OUTSIDE MY WARRANTY, THE HEFTY REPAIR COST OF BETWEEN $500 AND $600 WOULD BE MY RESPONSIBILITY. THIS IS A KNOWN PARTY FAILURE ON MANY FORDS AND IT APPEARS THEY'VE EVEN REDESIGNED THE PART DUE TO THE ISSUES. THERE IS CURRENTLY AN OPEN INVESTIGATION WITH NHTSA ON THIS ISSUE. HOPEFULLY IT WILL NOT TAKE SOMETHING AS SERIOUS AS A FATALITY FOR FORD TO SEE THEY NEED TO HAVE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL. I HAVE HAD THE INCIDENT OCCUR TWO MORE TIMES SINCE THE ORIGINAL INCIDENT DATE. ONCE AGAIN ON INTERSTATE AT INTERSTATE SPEED AND ONCE IN CITY DRIVING, IT OCCURRED AS I WAS PULLING OUT FROM A PARKING LOT, AGAINST TRAFFIC ONTO A MAJOR CITY THOROUGHFARE. AGAIN, FORTUNATE FOR THE LIGHTER TRAFFIC TIME AND THE ABILITY TO COAST TO THE CENTER TURN LANE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND WAIT TO RESTART. THE DEALER HAS SCHEDULED TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE AND CHARGE ME $95 FOR WHAT THEY HAVE ALREADY ADVISED ME OVER THE PHONE. AS FOR RESOLUTION, I AM AMONG THE MANY WHO ARE AT THE MERCY OF SHIPPING SCHEDULES OF THIS NECESSARY, APPARENTLY, ILLUSIVE PART. *TR
CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND SPUTTERED AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. HAPPENED 3-4 MORE TIMES, THEN TOOK TO A FORD DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE THROTTLE BODY AND WAS NOTIFIED THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER DUE TO MANY CARS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. NOTIFIED FORD WITH NO RESULTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED TO 80 MPH. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED REPEATEDLY UNTIL THE FAILURE CEASED. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD SPORADICALLY AND VIOLENTLY JERK. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FIVE TIMES WHERE SEVERAL REPAIRS WERE MADE WHICH CONSISTED OF A TRANSMISSION FLUSH, TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACEMENT AS WELL AS OTHER RELATED COMPONENTS HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN 10V222000 (POWER TRAIN) BUT DID NOT CONFIRM IF THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE NO LONGER OWNED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,936.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH WHILE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED THE VEHICLE FAILED TO INCREASE SPEED. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE IT WOULD ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED NOR WAS THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
DRIVING TO WORK ON 8/5/13 AT AROUND 40MPH WHEN MY VEHICLE STARTS TO AUTOMATICALLY SLOW DOWN AND SHAKE. I LOOKED DOWN AT THE DASHBOARD AND NOTICED A "WRENCH" WAS LIT UP FOR A WARNING, BUT IT WAS NOT THERE WHEN I STARTED THE CAR BEFORE GOING TO WORK. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND STOP FOR A FEW MINUTES. I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS, AND THE "WRENCH" SIGN WAS NOT LIT. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO WORK, WHICH WAS ANOTHER 5-10 MILES AWAY, BUT I DROVE AROUND 25MPH IN CASE I NEEDED TO PULL OVER AGAIN. LATER THAT SAME DAY, THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ON AN INCLINE AT A SPEED OF 50MPH. I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND BECAUSE THE CAR STALLED IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT WARNING AND THE DRIVER BEHIND ME COULD NOT TELL THAT MY CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN IMMEDIATELY. LUCKILY I WAS NOT HIT AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND STOPPED THE CAR FOR A FEW MINUTES. AGAIN, I RE-STARTED THE CAR WITHOUT THE "WRENCH" SIGN LIGHTING UP. I DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO LOOK AT IT THAT DAY, SO I HAD TO LEAVE THE CAR OVERNIGHT AND GET A RENTAL. I RECEIVED A CALL THE NEXT DAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A FAILURE OF THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. TOTAL OUT OF POCKET COST OF ALMOST $690. MY VEHICLE IS ONLY A LITTLE OVER 3 YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAS 52,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
DRIVING ABOUT 35 MILES AN HOUR WHEN THE CAR MAKES A MUFFLED CLUNKING NOISE AND THE SPEEDOMETER STARTS GOING TOWARDS 0. I PULL OVER, TURN OFF THE CAR TURN IT BACK ON AND IT RUNS FINE FOR ABOUT 5 MILES AND DOES IT AGAIN, THIS TIME THE NOISE IS LOUDER, THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND I CAN SMELL BURNING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT, CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I'VE JUST BEEN TOLD IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT WILL BE ABOUT $600 TO REPAIR IT. MY WARRANTY EXPIRED 34 DAYS AGO. *TR
THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING AND THE ENGINE WOULD ONLY PRODUCE ABOUT 800 RPM. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND THE PROBLEM REPEATED THE NEXT DAY AT A LOWER SPEED (30 MPH). THE DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AND SAID IT DUE TO A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR WHICH WOULD COST $475 AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY. *TR
AS I ACCELERATED THE CAR WOULD NOT INCREASE IN SPEED. I CONTINUED TO COAST UNTIL THE CAR CAME TO A STOP ON THE EXPRESSWAY! THIS HAPPENED A SECOND TIME 5 DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING 55 ON A TWO LANE ROAD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND RESTARTED SEVERAL MINUTES LATER AND OPERATED AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT NO CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE WAS FOUND. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ELECTRIC THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000. UPDATED 10/22/13 *CN
CAR LOSES POWER AT HIGHWAY SPEED, RPMS DROP TO IDLE, ENGINE IDLES ROUGH AS IF IT IS NOT GETTING SUFFICIENT AIR OR FUEL, AFTER TURNING ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTING, ENGINE OPERATION RETURNS TO NORMAL. INCIDENT HAS RECURRED ONCE. *JB
CAR IDLING ROUGH, ENGINE STALLS MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN AT IDLE OR SLOW (PARKING LOT) SPEEDS. MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES OVER SEVERAL DAYS. READ THAT IT WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE FORD FUSION CARS, BEING THE THROTTLE BODY. VERIFIED WITH MECHANICS. NO TROUBLE CODES GIVEN BY ON BOARD COMPUTER. SEVERAL DAYS LATER, ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT SPEEDS OF 65-70MPH. THIS HAS CONTINUED HAPPENING FROM TIME TO TIME, EVEN AFTER CLEANING OF THE THROTTLE BODY THAT IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. IDLE ISSUES ALSO CONTINUE. STILL NO TROUBLE CODES GIVEN BY THE ON BOARD COMPUTER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING CAR THREE DIFFERENT TIME WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS STRANGELY AND LOSES POWER THEN IDLES ERRATICALLY AND CANNOT ACCELERATE, CAR DISPLAYS ERROR CODE ON DASH. I TURN OFF CAR AND RESTART AND CODE GOES AWAY AND RUNS GOOD. *TR
CAR DIED AT CRUISING SPEEDS AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I FEEL IT IS DANGEROUS FOR ME TO CONTINUE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH IT IS ALMOST NEW. I WAS TOLD THIS IS THE THROTTLE BODY? *TR
CAR JERKING AND DEPRESSED PEDAL CAR NOT GOING. FOUND THAT IT IS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. LUCKY I WASN'T ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON I-75 AT ABOUT 65-70 MPH, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOSE POWER, AS THOUGH THE CAR'S NOT GETTING ANY GAS. NOTHING HAPPENED WHEN I TRIED TO CONTINUE ACCELERATING. I COASTED IT OFF THE INTERSTATE, I WAS IN THE FAR RIGHT HAND LANE, SO I WAS ABLE TO DO THIS RATHER EASILY. WHEN THE CAR STOPPED, IT BEGAN SHUDDERING AND SHAKING, IDLING VERY ROUGH. THE LITTLE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I GOT MY WITS BACK AS I WAS IN A PANIC BEING 156 MILES AWAY FROM HOME, AND STILL 800 MILES AWAY FROM MY DESTINATION, I TRIED TO CONTINUE DRIVING BECAUSE I COULDN'T TELL WHERE I WAS AT. THE CAR CREPT ALONG EXTREMELY SLOW, BUT I WAS ABLE TO GET CLOSE ENOUGH TO READ THE SIGN, I WAS HALF A MILE FROM THE ALTOONA RD EMERSON EXIT 283. I TURNED THE CAR OFF TO CALL SOMEONE. AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF MULTIPLE DROPPED CALLS, I TRIED TO START THE CAR, AND IT DID. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE EXIT AND AS I WAS APPROACHING THE STOP SIGN AT THE END OF THE OFF RAMP, IT STALLED. I TRIED AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO LOVE'S TRUCK STOP. I ENDED UP HAVING IT TOWED 156 MILES BACK HOME. IT'S SITTING IN MY YARD, I HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING YET WITH IT, I'M TOO DISGUSTED AS I JUST BOUGHT IT A MONTH AGO, AND HAVE BEEN READING NUMEROUS INCIDENTS JUST LIKE MINE. AND WHERE FORD DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE ENOUGH ABOUT THE PEOPLE BUYING THEIR PRODUCT. I'M PAYING A LOT OF MONEY FOR A CAR THAT I NO LONGER TRUST. MY HUSBAND TOOK IT TO ONE OF THOSE AUTO STORES NO CODE COULD BE READ. I CAN SAY WITH CERTAINTY THAT HAD I BEEN FURTHER UP IN ONE OF THE BIGGER CITIES IN HEAVIER TRAFFIC AND OUT IN THE CENTER LANES, IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN GOOD. IT SEEMS TO ME, THAT IT'S A NO BRAINER, A RECALL VERSES A CRIMINAL NEGLIGENT SUIT. BECAUSE IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME.. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME AT A SPEED OF 70 FROM WORK ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THE CAR POWERED DOWN ALL OF A SUDDEN. A WRENCH LIGHT TURNED ON AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DID NOT WORK I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY WHEN I STOPPED MY CAR THE CAR FELT AS IF IT WAS TREMBLING SO I TURNED IT OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN TURNED IT BACK ON SURPRISINGLY THE WRENCH LIGHT TURNED OFF AND THE CAR WORKED FINE AGAIN. I KEPT DRIVING CAREFULLY AT A SPEED OF 60 NOW AND 20 MILES LATER IT STALLED AGAIN. MY CAR AT THE MOMENT IS AT 43,000 MILES I BOUGHT IT NEW IN JUNE 2010. I TOOK IT TO O'REILLYS SO THEY CAN TROUBLESHOOT AND FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. I CONTINUED TO CALL A FORD DEALERSHIP SINCE I STILL HAVE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WHICH COVERS THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE SALES REP. SAID IT DID NOT COVER THE THROTTLE BODY. AT THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX THIS PROBLEM WILL COST ME $93.00 TO FIND THE PROBLEM, $150.00 FOR THE SERVICE AND $400.00 FOR THE PART. I AM A NMSU STUDENT LIVING IN TEXAS AND DRIVE 30 MILES EVERYDAY TO SCHOOL AND SADLY CANNOT AFFORD THIS KIND OF EXPENSE. RETURNED TO DEALER WITHOUT SUCCESS 3 TIMES. CAR HAS SHUT OFF 6 TIMES SINCE AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND HEAVY TRAFFIC. A REAL SAFETY HAZARD! *JB
I WAS A PASSENGER IN A 2010 FORD FUSION AND WAS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND ANOTHER PERSON WAS IN THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER SEAT. I WAS EXITING THE CAR AND BECAUSE THE DOOR HAD OPENED TO FAR, I USED MY HANDS TO PULL MYSELF OUT OF THE CAR. AT THE SAME TIME, THE PASSENGER IN THE RIGHT REAR SEAT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF OPENING THEIR DOOR AND EXITING. DUE TO THE CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THEIR DOOR EDGE (APPROXIMATELY 1/16 INCH) AND THE CAR ITSELF, A FINGER TIP ON MY RIGHT HAND WAS COMPLETELY AMPUTATED WHEN THE DOOR WAS OPENED. I WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO HOSPITAL WHERE SURGERY WAS PERFORMED.
WHEN LEAVING HOME TO GO TO THE STORE, ACCELERATOR PEDDLE STOPPED RESPONDING SHORTLY AFTER SHIFTING INTO DRIVE AFTER LEAVING THE DRIVEWAY. THE ENGINE IDLED VERY ROUGHLY, SO I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND PULLED OVER. I PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO PARK, TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE. IT IDLED FINE, SO I CONTINUED ON MY TRIP. SHORTLY AFTER, STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN, THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM THE STOP. I WAS TURNING LEFT, SO I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY TURN RIGHT AND PULL OVER TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. RESTARTED ENGINE AND CONTINUED TO MY DESTINATION. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE MAIN HIGHWAY IN OUR TOWN GOING AROUND 45 MPH WHEN THE CAR STARTED BEEPING AND AN ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASH SAYING THAT THERE WAS AN ERROR WITH THE POWER ASSIST. I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HWY GOING HOME. THE LITTLE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THE DASHBOARD WITHOUT WARNING OR ANY KIND OF NOTICE AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL. ENGINE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. WE WERE AT LOW SPEED AND COULD GET OFF THE ROAD. DEALER HAS CLEANED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY AND REINSTALLED IT. CONCERN IS WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FUTURE IF FAILURE IS IN A VERY DANGEROUS LOCATION. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS CONDITION. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY MORNING COMMUTE DOING ABOUT 65 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THERE WAS A CLUNKING TYPE NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AND THEN THE CAR JUST WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER, PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF. I THEN RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT DROVE JUST FINE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT MORNING AND AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE ALL DAY I WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND JUST RESET THE COMPUTER BECAUSE THEY SAID THERE WAS PROBABLY A MALFUNCTION WITH THE COMPUTER THAT SENT A SIGNAL TO THE ENGINE WHICH CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN. THAT COST ME $103 TO JUST RESET THE COMPUTER. THEN 4 DAYS LATER IT HAPPENS TO ME AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 60 MPH ON A HIGHWAY. I DID THE SAME THING BY PUTTING IT IN PARK, SHUTTING IF OFF AND THEN RESTARTING IT. AT THAT POINT I DECIDED TO DROP IT OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO CHECK THE NEXT MORNING BEINGS IT WAS AFTER HOURS AND THEY OBVIOUSLY DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM THE FIRST TIME. ON THE WAY TO DROPPING IT OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE GETTING ON THE INTERSTATE. I GUESS WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE WHAT LAME EXCUSE THEY COME UP WITH THIS TIME. *TR
ON 8/2/2013, I WAS DRIVING ON I-68W NEAR ROCKY GAP, MD. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN, THE CAR'S RPMS JUMPED UP TO 4000 RPMS FROM ITS NORMAL 2000 RPMS. I TRIED APPLYING THE BRAKES AND PUMPING THE GAS TO TRY TO GET THE CAR TO OPERATE NORMALLY. AFTER 30 OR 40 SECONDS, THE CAR RETURNED TO 2000 RPMS. THIS REPEATED A COUPLE TIMES OVER THE NEXT FEW MINUTES. EVENTUALLY, I WAS GOING UP A MOUNTAIN,WHEN THE CAR'S RPMS DROPPED TO 1000. THE CAR DECELERATED AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL SAFELY OVER TO THE SHOULDER. THE AMBER WRENCH SYMBOL WAS LIT. I LET THE CAR SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN STARTED IT BACK UP AGAIN. AT THIS POINT, THE CAR WORKED NORMALLY BUT ACCELERATION WAS SOMEWHAT SLUGGISH. WHEN I RETURNED HOME, I CHECKED TO SEE IF ANY VEHICLE ERROR CODE WERE PRESENT. NONE WERE. INITIALLY, I THOUGHT THE CAR WASN'T USED TO THE MOUNTAIN DRIVING. A FEW DAYS LATER, I WAS DRIVING ALONG MD-100W (A VERY FLAT ROAD) AND THEN PULLED INTO A LOCAL SHOPPING CENTER. WHILE DRIVING THROUGH THE PARKING LOT, THE CAR LOST POWER. I IMMEDIATELY HOOKED UP A CODE READER AND GOT A P2112. I GOOGLED THIS ERROR CODE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD FUSIONS. IF THIS LOSE OF POWER OCCURRED AT THE WRONG TIME, IT COULD EASILY CAUSE A BAD ACCIDENT. *TR

WANTED $596 TO REPLACE THROTTLE BODY AND REPROGRAM PCM. WAY TOO MUCH FOR A PART THAT IS ABOUT $150 AND 10 MINUTES WORK. DANGEROUS SITUATION, AS HIGHWAY SPEED AND SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER DO NOT MIX. *TR

AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE WHICH HAD BEEN SEEN MANY TIMES BEFORE.MY WARRANTY HAD RUN OUT A SHORT TIME BEFORE THIS INCIDENT SO I WAS REQUIRED TO PAY OUT-OF-POCKET. I EXPLAINED IN THE TIER 1 EMAIL CRDFMC MENTIONED ABOVE THAT THIS SEEMS LIKE A DESIGN PROBLEM AND I FEEL I SHOULDN'T BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYMENT. A REPRESENTATIVE CONTACTED ME EXPLAINING MY PART HAD BEEN REPLACED WITH ONE OF A NEW DESIGN. I WAS OFFERED A 50"% REFUND AND ADVISED THAT IN THE EVENT OF A RECALL I WOULD GET REIMBURSED THE OTHER 50%. I DO NOT FIND THIS ACCEPTABLE. OBVIOUSLY FMC HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ORIGINAL THROTTLE HENCE THE NECESSITY FOR A NEW DESIGN. I SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYMENT AND EXPECT TO BE REIMBURSED 100%. *JS
IN THE PAST WEEK, MY VEHICLE HAS "STALLED," FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD, AT MODERATE TO HIGH SPEEDS ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE THIRD TIME THIS OCCURRED, I WAS DRIVING UPHILL DURING RUSH HOUR ON "THE CUT IN THE HILL," A STRETCH OF HIGHWAY IN NORTHERN KENTUCKY NEAR CINCINNATI KNOWN FOR ITS DISPROPORTIONATELY HIGH NUMBER OF AUTO ACCIDENTS. IT'S A VERY DANGEROUS PLACE FOR A VEHICLE TO SIMPLY STOP AT THE BUSIEST TIME OF DAY. BECAUSE IT WAS GOING UPHILL, THE VEHICLE DID NOT COAST TO A SAFER LOCATION (OR EVEN COAST AT ALL) AS IT HAD DONE DURING PREVIOUS EPISODES AND I WAS UNABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER. I WAS STUCK, BROKEN DOWN, IN THE MIDDLE LEFT LANE. I HAVE BROUGHT MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE TWICE IN THE PAST WHILE IT WAS COVERED UNDER THE BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY. THEY CLAIMED THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR FIND A CODE SO IT WAS PROBABLY JUST A FLUKE AND NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. THIS TIME, WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR IN LAST FRIDAY 8/30/13, THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT AND HAD THE PART TO REPLACE IT (WHICH WAS AMAZING SINCE IT'S ON A NATIONAL BACK ORDER BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM IS APPARENTLY HAPPENING TO EVERYONE). MY 12 MONTH/12,000 MILE CERTIFIED BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY EXPIRED 1,200 MILES AGO, SHORTLY AFTER THE LAST TIME I BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE. IT TOOK LESS THAN AN HOUR FOR THEM TO CALL ME WITH A DIAGNOSIS. IT WAS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY, JUST LIKE I HAD TOLD THEM, AND IT COST ME ALMOST $600 OUT-OF-POCKET TO REPLACE IT. NONE OF IT WAS COVERED. UNBELIEVABLE. FORD NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND REIMBURSE ME AND EVERYONE ELSE WITH THIS ISSUE. UNSAFE AND UNFAIR! *JB
WHILE ON HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE STUTTERED, LOST ALL THROTTLE POWER (NO ACCELERATION) AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE NEAREST SHOULDER WHILE LOSING SPEED. ONCE STOPPED THE CAR JITTERED AND TUGGED AND CONTINUED TO DO SO EVEN WHILE IN PARK! AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN WAITING A WHILE, IT STARTED UP WITHOUT THE ISSUE AND WITHOUT THE WRENCH LIGHT ON. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD US IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL IT WAS ORDERED BECAUSE IT WAS BACKORDERED AND ALSO THEY SAID WE WOULD NOT BE COVERED FOR THIS UNDER WARRANTY. I SUSPECT THEY KNOW OF THEIR FAULTY PRODUCTS AND HAD THE AUDACITY TO CHARGE SO MUCH TO GET IT FIXED. THIS IS TRULY A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
THROTTLE BODY FAULTS W/OUT WARNING (FORD PART 9E926). WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE ENGINE LIGHT (WRENCH) APPEARED AND THE CAR ABRUPTLY LOST ACCELERATION DECREASING IMMEDIATELY FROM 70 MPH TO APPROX 10 MPH IN HIGH SPEED INTERSTATE TRAFFIC. ENGINE IDLE BOUNCED BETWEEN 1.5 AND 3.5 RPM CAUSING THE CAR TO JERK AND FEEL LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL. I WAS DRIVING WITH MY 5 YEAR OLD SON AND WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED AND NEARLY STRUCK SEVERAL TIMES BY OTHER CARS ON THE INTERSTATE STILL TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED WHILE I HAD TO SWITCH LANES LIMPING AT 10MPH. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND CLEAR THE ENGINE ERROR AFTER I REACHED THE SHOULD AND PROCEED. HOWEVER THIS HAS CONTINUED TO OCCUR AND EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING WITHOUT THE ENGINE LIGHT THE RPM BOUNCES AROUND AND THE ENGINE WILL NOT IDLE PROPERLY. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION AND LOST THRUST STALLING AND BLOCKING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IN THE LAST MONTH I WOULD ESTIMATE THIS HAS OCCURRED 3-4 TIMES PER WEEK DURING NORMAL DRIVING. I CONTACTED FORD AND WAS INFORMED THERE WAS NO RECALL HOWEVER THE PART IS ON INDEFINITE BACK-ORDER AND UNAVAILABLE TO ME FOR REPAIR. IT MAY BE SEVERAL WEEKS BEFORE I CAN EVEN OBTAIN THE PART. I AM FORCED TO DRIVE THIS CAR NOT KNOWING WHEN IT'S GOING TO SHUT DOWN AGAIN AND HOPING THAT I AM NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHILE I WAIT FOR THE PART. THIS IS ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 29,000.
WE WERE DRIVING DOWN A BUSY ROAD WHEN WE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION AND COULD NOT MOVE TO SAFETY. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND WE HAD TO GET TOWED. WE LATER FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH WAS A COMMON, KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR MODEL. *TR
WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 55MPH WHEN THE CAR LOST ALL PROPULSION. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER, SHUT IT DOWN, AND START BACK UP AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE. THIS OCCURRED 3 TIMES ON A 25 MILE DRIVE. APPEARS TO BE A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY BASED ON THE CODES BEING THROWN OFF. THE CAR ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES AND BASED ON MULTIPLE USER BOARDS THIS IS A PROBLEM FORD IS AWARE OF. UNACCEPTABLE FOR SUCH A KEY PART TO FAIL SO EARLY IN ITS LIKE. IF I WAS STUCK IN THE LEFT LANE THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
