VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH. SECOND OCCURRENCE. FIRST WAS APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR EARLIER. IMMEDIATELY RESTARTS AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED. EACH TIME, TOOK TO DEALER, WHO READ CODE AND REPROGRAMMED. *TR
OUR 2010 FORD FUSION LOST ENGINE POWER WHILE ACCELERATING UP A HILL IN MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON A MULTI-LANE SUPER-HIGHWAY IN ATLANTA. OUR CAR WAS IN ONE OF THE LEFT LANES AND WAS ABLE TO LIMP ACROSS SEVERAL LANES TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF A HELPFUL TRUCK DRIVER. CARS WERE RACING AROUND US ON BOTH SIDES UNTIL WE COULD FLAG DOWN ASSISTANCE. THE EXPERIENCE WAS HORRIFYING. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A STUCK THROTTLE COVER. A REPAIR WAS MADE UNDER WARRANTY, AND WE WERE TOLD THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGH SPEED, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND LOST POWER AS THE SERVICE VEHICLE SOON WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE FIRST INSTANCE I WAS DRIVING AS NORMAL IN MY VEHICLE AND WITH OUT WARNING GOING 50 MPH MY CAR SHUT OFF WITH NO POWER OR ABILITY TO DO ANYTHING BESIDES TO TRY AND COAST OFF THE ROAD AND OUT OF HARM. A WRENCH LIGHT FLASHES WHEN IT OCCURS. THE SECOND TIME I WAS MAKING A TURN AT APPROX 20 MPH IN A FOUR WAY LIGHT INTERSECTION AND LOST POWER OVER THE CAR AGAIN WITH A WRENCH LIGHT APPEARING AGAIN. THE ONLY WAY TO GAIN POWER AGAIN IS TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK TURN IT OFF AND WAIT A BIT TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. WHEN YOU RESTART THE CAR THE WRENCH LIGHT IS GONE AND THE CAR ACTS LIKE THERE WAS NEVER A PROBLEM AND RUNS SMOOTHLY. AFTER A 2 DAY DIAGNOSIS BY FORD THEY STATE THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. IN TOTAL I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN 5 TIMES WITH OUT ANY WARNING GOING VARIOUS SPEEDS AND LUCKLY AVOIDING MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS. LIKE MENTIONED ABOVE AFTER STARTING THE CAR THE WRENCH LIGHT DISAPPEARS PERFORMING AS USUAL. *TR
WE WERE THREE HOURS FROM HOME IN THE LATE AFTERNOON WHEN THE POWER STEERING SERVICE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. WE HAD ONE MORE STOP TO MAKE SO WE DID AND TRIED TO CHECK THE POWER STEERING FLUID NOT KNOWING THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD ELECTRIC ASSIST STEERING. WHEN WE GOT BACK IN THE VEHICLE TO GO TO THE AUTO PARTS STORE AND THE ALARM CAME ON AND THE READING ON THE DASH SAID POWER STEERING SERVICE NOW AND THE VEHICLE THEN WAS VERY HARD TO STEER. AFTER FINALLY FIGURING OUT THAT WE HAD THE POWER ASSIST STEERING AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT WE COULD DO ABOUT IT AT THAT TIME. THE SALESPERSON TOLD US THAT WE COULD STILL DRIVE IT BUT IT WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT. WE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO TRY TO MAKE IT HOME AND PRAISE THE LORD WE DID GET HOME SAFELY. WE TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT THE PART TO REPLACE IT WOULD BE AROUND $1,000.00 NOT INCLUDING LABOR. IN DOING RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT FOR THIS VEHICLE BUT THAT THERE IS NO RECALL AS OF YET FOR IT. I WOULD LIKE TO ENTER THIS COMPLAINT SO THAT FORD WILL LOOK INTO MAKING THIS DEFECT A RECALL AND HELP THE CONSUMERS THAT HAVE PURCHASED THESE VEHICLES. MY HUSBAND AND I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE LESS THAT 6 MONTHS AGO AND WE LOVE IT BUT THIS PROBLEM HAS REALLY BEEN A DISAPPOINTMENT NOT TO MENTION THE FINANCIAL HARDSHIP IT HAS PLACED ON US. THE PARKING BRAKE FREEZES IN FREEZING WEATHER. YOU CAN STILL LOWER (RELEASE) THE PARKING BRAKE HANDLE, THE WARNING LIGHT IN THE DASH WOULD GO OFF, BUT THE REAR RIGHT BRAKE STAYS ENGAGED. THIS LEAVES THE DRIVER TO BELIEVE THAT THE BRAKE HAS BEEN RELEASED WHEN IN FACT IT HASN'T. THIS HAPPENED TO ME THIS PAST WINTER. THE CAR FELT SLUGGISH AS IF IT WAS DRAGGING SOMETHING. ABOUT 10 MINUTES INTO DRIVING WE SMELLED A BURNT SMELL AND HEARD A METAL POPPING NOISE FROM THE REAR RIGHT WHEEL. WE STOPPED AT A GAS STATION TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS HAPPENING. THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE WAS BURNING HOT, THE BURNT SMELL WAS VERY STRONG, AND IT CONTINUED TO MAKE THE METAL POPPING NOISE AS IT WAS EXPANDING DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE HEAT. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS TO DO WITH THE DESIGN OF THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE. WE WERE ALSO TOLD TO NOT USE THE PARKING BRAKE IN WINTER OR IT LIKELY WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS ON BECAUSE IT CAN LEAD TO THE CAR CATCHES FIRE. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING AT 60 MPH AND THE LOST ALL POWER. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THREE LANES SO IT PROVED DIFFICULT TO GET TO THE RIGHT BREAK DOWN LANE. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND AFTER ABOUT TEN SECONDS I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND RETURN TO THE HIGHWAY. THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN ABOUT A HALF A MILE FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD. ONCE AGAIN I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IT. THE PROBLEM DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN THAT DAY. I HAD THE PROBLEM LOOKED AT LATER THAT AFTERNOON AT A LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. THE CAR WAS 3,000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY. FORD CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE DID NOT FEEL THEY SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THIS HAS OCCURRED TWICE IN THE PAST IN DECEMBER AND EACH TIME I WAS TRAVELING 60 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. SOMETHING NEEDS TO DONE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SHOULDER AND WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL THROTTLE BODY MAY HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE DID NOT RECEIVE A FULL DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000. *TR
I HAD COME TO A STOP LIGHT AND WAS TURNING RIGHT WHEN THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE. SECOND TIME ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER I WAS TURNING ONTO A ENTRANCE RAMP TO AN INTERSTATE AND WAS ACCELERATING WHEN IT WENT INTO LIMP MODE. IT HAPPENED AGAIN TWO WEEKS LATER. ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO I WAS IDLING WHEN THE CAR TOTALLY CUT OFF. I RESTARTED IT DROVE 5 MILES AND IT WENT INTO LIMP MODE WHEN I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT. YESTERDAY IT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS DOING A STEADY 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. TODAY WHEN I WAS DOING 65 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. EACH TIME, I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND RESTARTED THE CAR WHICH RAN NORMALLY AFTER THAT. *TR
MY FORD 2010 FUSION, WHEN AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, STOP SIGN, ETC.. WOULD STALL WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR WITH VERY LITTLE RESPONSE. THEN IT WILL FINALLY PICK UP SPEED. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCE THE "ENGINE SHUT DOWN" AS OF YET AND I HOPE I DON'T. AFTER READING THE OTHER "COMPLAINTS", NOW I KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. WILL TAKE CARE OF IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! *TR
THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS WHEN I WAS BEGINNING TO ACCELERATE AT AROUND 50 MPH. THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND MY ENGINE AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE ENGINE JUST HIGH RPM'S AND NO MOVEMENT. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR, THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON BUT THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS OFF. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE BUT ABOUT 20 MILES DOWN THE ROAD IT DID IT AGAIN. AT THE TIME I THOUGHT I HAD GOT A BAD BATCH OF GAS. I HAD FILLED UP THAT MORNING. THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT OUT AND I DROVE FOR ANOTHER 10,000 MILES BEFORE IT HAPPENED AGAIN IN DOWNTOWN TRAFFIC. NOW THE CAR WILL ONLY GO ABOUT 2-3 MILES BEFORE THE IT GOES INTO THE LIMITING MODE. I TALKED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY ARE ON AT LEAST A WEEK BACK-ORDER BECAUSE THEY CAN'T KEEP UP WITH THE DEMAND OF THE FAULTY PART. *TR
WHILE DRIVING CAR AT ANY SPEED, WILL LOSE ALL POWER, GO DOWN TO 20 MPH, PRESSING GAS PEDAL DOES NOTHING,HAVE TO GET TO SIDE OF ROAD, CAR WILL SHAKE VIOLENTLY TILL YOU SHUT IT OFF. TAKE AT LEAST 4 TO 5 TIMES TO START AGAIN AND HAVE POWER ENOUGH TO GET IT GOING AGAIN. ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH LITES COME ON, ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON BUT WRENCH LITE WILL GO OFF. HAD MY 3 GRANDCHILDREN IN CAR GOING OVER A SET OF 3 RAILROAD TRACKS AND CAR LOST POWER, WAS ABLE TO CRUISE OVER LAST TRACK AND GET OFF TO SIDE OF ROAD, JUST AS I DID RAILROAD GATES WENT DOWN DUE TO APPROACHING TRAIN. ALSO HAVE LOST POWER GOING THRU INTERSECTIONS, ON INTERSTATES, ROADS THAT HAVE VERY FEW PLACES TO PULL OVER. THIS HAS BEEN A TRUE NIGHTMARE DRIVING THIS CAR, I HAVE HAD MANY SITUATIONS THAT NOT ONLY HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS TO MYSELF BUT ALSO MY PASSENGERS AND MOST IMPORTANT MY GRANDCHILDREN. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP BACK IN JANUARY, THEY REPLACED CHARCOAL CANNISTER WHICH HELPED FOR APPROX. 2 MONTHS. SINCE THEN PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 3 TIMES EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT, TOOK BACK TO DEALERSHIP, THEY SAY TOUGH LUCK, NOT UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE. HAVE RESEARCHED ON-LINE ABOUT THIS SITUATION AND LOOKS LIKE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE. PLEASE HELP! *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE LANE ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH, VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION, TACHOMETER STARTED GOING UP AND DOWN, AND CAR BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. WAS ABLE TO GET CAR OVER TO SHOULDER. TURNED CAR OFF, ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE AGAIN AND IMMEDIATELY STARTED THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF I WAS NOT ABLE TO CHANGE LANES AS QUICKLY AS I DID. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THE THROTTLE DRIVE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR HAS ONLY 23000 MILES. *TR
MY PURCHASED MY CAR WITH 25 MILES ON IT IN 2010 AND THE FIRST TIME WAS IN 2013 JAN, WITH ABOUT 35000 MILES ON IT WHEN I WAS IN HEAVY BATON ROUGE TRAFFIC PULLING ONTO THE STREET AND MY CAR LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED, I MANAGED TO PULL BACK OFF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. AFTER LOOKING IN MY MANUAL I SAW THAT IT COULD POSSIBLE BE A THROTTLE PROBLEM. I STARTED THE CAR BACK UP AND IT DROVE NORMALLY. I HAD FORD DEALERSHIP INSPECT THE VEHICLE WHICH THEY SAID IT DIDN'T APPEAR TO HAVE ANY PROBLEM. HOWEVER I AM REGISTERING A COMPLAINT BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WAS PURCHASING A RELIABLE VEHICLE. LOSING POWER IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND COULD CAUSE ACCIDENTS. FORD PLEASE RECALL. WHY SHOULD THE CUSTOMER BE RESPONSIBLE FOR A DEFECTIVE PART, WHY IS FORD NOT STANDING BEHIND IT QUALITY VEHICLES? *TR
HAD 2 SEPARATE INCIDENTS, 1ST WAS DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY GOING 70MPH WHEN CAR JERKED, CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGED, LOST ACCELERATION, WRENCH SYMBOL APPEREAD ON DASH AND TRYING TO ACCELERATE MADE CAR JERK EVEN MORE. FORTUNATELY I WASNT ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER CAR. I PULLED OVER AND SHUT CAR OFF, READ MANUAL FOR WHAT THE SYMBOL MEANT THAN I STARTED CAR AND SYMBOL WAS GONE. I DECIDED TO GO AHEAD AND FINISH TRIP HOME AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. NEXT DAY GOING TO LOCAL GROCERY STORE GOING ABOUT 10MPH HAD EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN. I JUST SPOKE WITH DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT CAR FROM AND ITS TO BE LOOKED AT TOMORROW. I HAD JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR 3WKS AGO, SO PRETTY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD AND PRAY THAT NOBODY GETS INJURED WITH THIS MECHANICAL ISSUE, I DEFINITELY WONT BE ALLOWING MY CHILD TO RIDE IN THE CAR UNTIL ITS COMPLETING REPAIRED, AND BY READING OTHER CONSUMERS ISSUES MAY BE NEVER. *TR
WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE THE RPM'S DROP TO 0 WITH NO THROTTLE RESPONSE WITH TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THE WRENCH SYMBOL ILLUMINATES ON THE DASH. AT THE TIME OF THE THROTTLE FAILURE THERE WAS A SEMI TO MY RIGHT AND A SEMI BEHIND ME, WHICH MADE IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO PULL TO THE RIGHT OF THE ROAD WHILE DECREASING SPEEDS. UPON PULLING OVER AND PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK AND SHUTTING OFF THE CAR THE CAR STARTS UP AS USUAL. *TR
MY 2010 FORD FUSION FAILED ME AND MY FAMILY YESTERDAY IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. THE CAR WENT INTO AN IDLE MODE AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I HAD TO COAST ACROSS THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC AND RUN UP THE CURB TO GET MY FAMILY TO A SAFE AREA. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND THEN BACK ON AND THE CAR STARTED. THE PROBLEM WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE FAILED UNIT AT MY COST. I SEE ON THE WEB, THAT A FAILED THROTTLE BODY IS A RECURRING PROBLEM FOR THE FORD FUSION. THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY 15 DAYS OR 5000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY. MY COST OF THE REPAIR WAS $328.50. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A COUNTY HIGHWAY AT ALMOST 60MPH THE CAR SHOOK/SHUTTERED, THEN A WRENCH WARNING LIGHT APPEARED AND I PULLED ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD BECAUSE IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS LOSING POWER. I HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AND IT STALLED. I CALLED MY HUSBAND TO COME AND BECAUSE IT WAS DARK AND ONLY 20 DEGREES OUTSIDE I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER. IT STARTED RIGHT UP BUT WE HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC ANYWAY AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. BECAUSE I WAS SCARED TO DRIVE IT AFTER THIS I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER (EWALD IN HARTFORD, WI) TO HAVE IT CHECKED OVER. THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEN THIS SAME SCENARIO OCCURRED AGAIN ABOUT 3-1/2 WEEKS LATER AT 5:15AM ON MY WAY TO WORK. THIS TIME I WAS JUST PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN AND BARELY GOING 20MPH. IT DID THE SAME THING WITH SHAKING, THE WRENCH LIGHT COMING ON AND THE CAR STALLING. THERE WAS NO SHOULDER WHERE I WAS SO I DIDN'T WANT TO WAIT FOR A TOW TRUCK OR HELP. I STARTED IT BACK UP AND TOOK IT BACK HOME WHERE IT SAT IN THE GARAGE FOR 1-1/2 DAYS UNTIL I COULD GET IT TO A DEALERSHIP. EWALD FORD LOOKED AT IT FOR ME AGAIN BUT THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY ISSUES. THEY TOLD ME NOT TO START IT AGAIN IF IT HAPPENS OR THE CODES WILL CLEAR OUT SO I WILL NEED TO HAVE IT TOWED OR PUT A PORTABLE CODE READER ON IT TO SEE IF I CAN GET SOMETHING FOR THEM. I JUST SAW AN ARTICLE IN OUR MILWAUKEE PAPER STATING THAT YOU ARE INVESTIGATING THESE ISSUES AND I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I'VE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. IN MARCH 2012 I HAD THE CAR SERVICED FOR A RECALL FOR DEFECTIVE WHEEL STUDS. AT THE TIME I HAD DISCOVERED A BROKEN OFF WHEEL STUD ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL. I HAD IT REPAIRED PER THE RECALL NOTICE AT PERRY FORD IN POWAY , CA WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE LUG NUTS. NOW IN JANUARY OF 2013 I HAVE ANOTHER WHEEL STUD BROKEN OFF ON THE SAME WHEEL WHICH HAD BEEN SERVICED. THE RECALL WAS SUPPOSED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM ON ALL WHEELS BY REPLACING THE LUG NUTS. IT HAS NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM AS I NOW HAVE ANOTHER WHEEL BOLT COMPLETELY SHEARED OFF AT THE WHEEL FOR NO APPARENT REASON. IT SEEMS REPLACING THE LUG NUTS IS NOT A SOLUTION AND THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION AS I HAVE NOW HAD TWO OF FIVE BOLTS BROKEN OFF ON ONE WHEEL. CLEARLY THE WHEEL STUDS NOT THE NUTS ARE DEFECTIVE AND REPLACING LUG NUTS DOES NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT 70MPH ON THE FREEWAY IN MY 2010 FORD FUSION SE (46,000 MILES), I FELT A BUMP AS IF WAS HIT FROM THE REAR OR THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP. THE WRENCH SYMBOL LIT UP. THE CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION. I PULLED THE CAR OVER. WHILE PARKED ON THE EMERGENCY LANE THE CAR KEPT SURGING AND THE RPM BOUNCED BETWEEN 500 AND 1000 RPMS. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES I RESTARTED THE CAR AS IF THERE WERE NO ISSUES. APPROX. 8 MILES LATER STILL TRAVELING AT 70 MPH IT DID THE EXACT SAME THING AS BEFORE. THIS TIME WHEN RESTARTING, THE STARTER STAYED ENGAGED FOR APPROX 10 SECONDS AFTER RELEASING THE KEY. THE CAR HAD THE SAME STALLING ISSUE 12 MORE TIMES FOR THE NEXT 15 MILES TO MY HOME. I SPOKE TO THE DEALER, HE SAID IT IS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. HE ACKNOWLEDGED IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE, BUT NOT A RECALL SO MY OUT OF WARRANTY COST WOULD BE AROUND $600. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY FORD BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED, IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY. *TR
THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES BUT THE MOST COMMON IS WHILE DRIVING, THE LITTLE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON OUT OF NOWHERE AND THE CAR STARTS TO SHAKE AND LOSE POWER. 2010 FORD FUSION -- HAD TO REPLACE TRANS AXLE DUE TO POOR SURFACE ROUGHNESS ON PART AND IT WORE THE SEALS, FOUND BY PUDDLE OF TRANNY FLUID IN GARAGE. A KNOWN ISSUE, FORD HAD A KIT TO REPAIR. LOCAL TRANS SHOP FOUND ABOUT THE ISSUE. OF COURSE NO RECALL. NOW TRANSMISSION SLIPS WHILE ACCELERATING, AND DECELERATING BEFORE JERKILY SHIFTING IN GEAR. *TR
MY CAR IS A FORD FUSION BOUGHT IN MARCH 2010 WITH ONLY 33,400 MILES, STILL UNDER FULL WARRANTY. I WAS DRIVING IN CITY TRAFFIC, GOING ABOUT 50 MPH, WHEN MY ACCELERATOR STOP WORKING. THE WRENCH AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL. I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT SAFETY, THANK GOODNESS. WHEN I STARTED TO HIT MY BRAKES TO STOP, THE CAR JERKED A BIT LIKE IT DID NOT WANT TO STOP. I STOPPED, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, AND IT STARTED BACK UP OK. NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH. I THEN PULLED OUT INTO TRAFFIC AGAIN AND NOT EVEN 5 MINS LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I COASTED INTO ANOTHER PARKING LOT, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON. THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. THIS PROCEEDED TO HAPPEN 5 MORE TIMES BEFORE MAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS DUE TO A DIRTY THROTTLE BODY AND THAT IT NEEDED CLEANING. I SPENT $250 TO CLEAN IT BECAUSE CLEANING IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. TWO WEEKS LATER, I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE GOING ABOUT 75MPH WHEN THIS ALL HAPPENED AGAIN, THANK GOODNESS I WAS NOT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND. I WAS ABLE TO COAST OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND RESTART MY CAR. I DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY CALLED SOME HOTLINE AND WERE TOLD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY ALTOGETHER. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE BUT I WISH I HAD KNOWN THIS EARLIER. I WAS TERRIFIED OF GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT AND WISH FORD WOULD HAVE RECALLED IT BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON 12/25/12, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. ON 12/29/12, WENT TO CHECK CAR AND COULD NOT DRIVE IT AT ALL. YOU COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE POWER STEERING RACK HAD TO BE REPLACED. THEY SAID SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE WIRING. I ALSO SAW ONLINE THERE WERE MANY COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THE SAME ISSUE. BECAUSE OF THIS, IT THOUGHT THERE COULD BE A POSSIBLE DEFECT. THE CAR IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD WITH LOW MILEAGE. I MOSTLY USE THE CAR TO DRIVE BACK AND FORTH TO WORK, WHICH IS 6 MILES AWAY. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS, BECAUSE YOU COULD NOT STEER THE CAR ONCE THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. *TR

WHILE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE, VEHICLE LOST POWER TO THE ACCELERATOR, BUT LIGHTS, RADIO ETC. ALL REMAINED ON. A WRENCH SYMBOL WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. AFTER COASTING TO THE SHOULDER, I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND IT SHUTTERED AND SHOOK UNTIL I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS OFF AND THE CAR RESUMED NORMAL FUNCTIONING. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WITHIN A WEEK OF THE FIRST INCIDENT, AND AGAIN THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE. THE CAR HAD NO FURTHER INCIDENTS UNTIL MAY OF 2013. FOR A WEEK EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN IT DIED, PARTICULARLY WHEN TRYING TO GET UP TO SPEED. AT THIS POINT THE MILEAGE IS AROUND 42K MILES. AFTER NEARLY BEING HIT BY AN 18-WHEELER WHEN TRYING TO JOIN THE INTERSTATE, I PROMPTLY DROVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH IT WAS PURCHASED. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AT THIS POINT THE CAR HAS BEEN LEFT AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT IS ON BACKORDER FOR AT LEAST TWO WEEKS. IN THE MEANTIME I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY CUSTOMER COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT. MY FORD FUSION WAS PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT WHILE SHOPPING. TEMPERATURE APPROXIMATELY 15 DEGREES F. BEFORE GOING INTO THE STORE, I HAD SET THE PARKING BRAKE, AS THE CAR WAS PARKED ON A SLIGHT INCLINE. UPON EXITING THE STORE AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, I DISENGAGED THE PARKING BRAKE. HOWEVER, THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE DID NOT DISENGAGE. INSTEAD, A LOUD GRINDING SOUND OCCURRED. THE BRAKE EVENTUALLY DISENGAGED, BUT BY THIS TIME, THE BRAKE ROTOR WAS EXTREMELY HOT. THIS HAD OCCURRED ONE TIME PREVIOUSLY, ALSO ON A COLD DAY WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE WAS SET. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE RIGHT REAR ROTOR HAD OVERHEATED AND BEEN DAMAGED. PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. UPON PICKING THE CAR UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP, I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES TO HOME, AND WHEN I EXITED THE CAR, THE RIGHT ROTOR WAS VERY HOT AND THE SMELL OF BURNING BRAKES WAS PRESENT IN THE GARAGE. THE LEFT ROTOR WAS COOL ENOUGH THAT I COULD PLACE A HAND ON IT FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. I WAS UNABLE TO EVEN MOMENTARILY TOUCH THE RIGHT ROTOR. IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE, I HAD NOT ENGAGED THE PARKING BRAKE, AS THE VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND THE PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT ENGAGED. WAITED A MINUTE, CAR STARTED WITH SOME HESITATION. RAN DIAGNOSTIC, NOTHING. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER, RAN SOME B-12 THROUGH FUEL; CURED. TWICE AGAIN AT APPROX. 56K, SAME THING (ONCE AT 70MPH ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE OTHER AT 55MPH ON A BUSY HIGHWAY); RAN B-12 BOTH TIMES. ON THIRD EVENT, IT FINALLY GAVE A READING - THROTTLE BODY STUCK IN OPEN POSITION. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY GOT THE SAME READING AND CHANGED THE THROTTLE BODY TO THE TUNE OF $350. FORD STATED THERE WAS NO TECHNICAL SERVICE MANUAL INDICATION OF PROBLEM FORCING A POSSIBLE RECALL. THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST SPEED, THEN WENT VERY SLOWLY. A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON SO I STOPPED THE CAR AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. I WAS CRUISING ALONG ABOUT 65MPH ON I-89 ON A SLIGHT UPHILL GRADE WHEN ENGINE SUDDENLY MISFIRED A LITTLE THEN RAPIDLY LOST POWER. I THEN TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND WAITED WONDERING IF IT WOULD START AND WHEN I TRIED IT THE ENGINE STARTED, BUT THE IDLE WAS A LITTLE ROUGH AND THE RPM'S WENT UP A BIT THEN SMOOTHED OUT AND RAN NORMAL AND THE WRENCH ICON WENT OFF. IT WAS DRIVEN FOR SEVERAL WEEKS WITHOUT A REPEAT BUT THEN DID IT AGAIN. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES SINCE UNDER A VARIETY OF DRIVING CONDITIONS AND SPEEDS. WHEN IT WAS FIRST BROUGHT TO THE DEALER THERE WAS NO CODE SHOWING IN THE COMPUTER LOG. ( I DON'T THINK THEY TRIED VERY HARD AS THEY DIDN'T EVEN LISTEN VERY WELL, STATING ON THE REPAIR ORDER THAT I SAID THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON. NO..... I SAID THE WRENCH LIGHT HAD COME ON. WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER A SECOND TIME, THEY FOUND THE CULPRIT AS THE THROTTLE BODY BEING DEFECTIVE AND NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. WHEN I QUESTIONED THEM ABOUT WHAT SPECIFICALLY WAS WRONG WITH THE THROTTLE BODY, THEY PLAYED LIKE IT WAS THE FIRST ONE THEY HAD EVER SEEN GO BAD AND IT WAS SOME BIG MYSTERY. AFTERWARD, I SPENT A GRAND TOTAL OF ABOUT TWO MINUTES ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND DOZENS OF PAGE REFERENCES ABOUT FORD FUSION THROTTLE BODY FAILURES ALONE, SOME WITH HUNDREDS ACCOUNTS WRITTEN BY OWNERS WHO HAD THE SAME RECURRING PROBLEM. TO ME IT MAY HAVE BEEN A RESTART ISSUE, ABOUT 50FT DOWN THE ROAD THE STEERING WENT OUT AND 2 HOURS LATER IT WAS TOWED. I WENT TO A DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WOULD BE A $1700-$2000 REPAIR. I CONTACTED FORD AND LET THEM KNOW MY CIRCUMSTANCES WITH SOME HELP AT A DIFFERENT DEALER WITH LOWER LABOR AND PART PRICING , I WAS ABLE TO GET IT FIXED. ABOUT A WEEK AFTER THE REPAIR THE SAME ISSUE AND ERROR CAME UP ON THE DASH AND THE SAME RESULTS WITH THE STEERING WENT OUT, WENT TO THE DEALER , THEY SAW MUD UNDERNEATH OF COURSE BECAUSE I LIVE ON COUNTRY ROADS,REPLACED THE PART AGAIN AND SAID THIS TIME FORD WILL NEED TO SEE PICTURES IF A THIRD INCIDENT LIKE THIS HAPPENS AND TO MAKE SURE A FULL UNDER BODY WASH IS INITIATED TO REMOVE ANY DIRT. JUST THIS WEEK ON 1/22/2014, SAME ISSUE, SAME RESULTS FOR A THIRD TIME IT STARTED AS I WAS HEADING INTO WORK, I WENT TO THE DEALER AND HE TELLS ME THAT IT IS AN ANGLE SENSOR IN THE STEERING , IT WAS RE-CALIBRATED AND IF IT FAULTS AGAIN IT WILL NEED REPLACED. SO I QUESTION IF THE RACK AND PINION WERE FINE, WHY DID I HAVE THAT REPLACED IF IT WAS AN ANGLE SENSOR TO START OUT WITH. BECAUSE THIS ISSUE IS REOCCURRING AND I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THE RACK AND PINION WHICH WERE REPLACED TWICE IN A TWO WEEK SPAN OF EACHOTHER, AND NOW IT IS A SENSOR THAT I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF. *TR

I WAS DRIVING DOWN A LOCAL ROAD AT THE LIMIT WHEN THE WRENCH LIGHT WARNING INDICATOR CAME ON, AFTER THE INDICATOR WAS ON THERE WAS NOT THROTTLE RESPONSE, ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING AND YET NO POWER GOING TO THE WHEELS. I WAS ABLE TO ROLL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PUT ON HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS, CAR WHILE AT IDLE WAS JERKING AND BUCKING. I THEN LIMPED THE VEHICLE TO A PARKING LOT, PLACED IT IN DRIVE AND FILMED THE ISSUE WITH A CELL PHONE IN A PARKING LOT AND NARRATED AS TO WHAT WAS HAPPENING. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT DOWN AND THEN RESTARTED THE LIGHT WENT OUT AND THE PROBLEM DID NOT PERSIST. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND NO CODES SHOWED UP IN A DIAGNOSTIC AND THE DEALERSHIP "COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM" BUT SUSPECTED IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROLLER AS THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. *TR
TRADED IN OUR FORD FREESTYLE TO PURCHASE USED 2010 FUSION VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER 2013 WITH 53,000 MILES AND A 30-DAY WARRANTY. THIS WAS OUR THIRD FORD VEHICLE AND WE'VE ENJOYED DEPENDABILITY, COMFORT AND SAFE DRIVING WITH OUR PREVIOUS FORDS, SO WE SAW NO NEED IN PURCHASING A WARRANTY. ONE MONTH LATER, WE WERE STRUCK BY HURRICANE SANDY. OUR HONDA CRV-06 PARKED ALONG SIDE THE FUSION WAS NEARLY TOTALED BY A DOWNED TREE BUT NOT A SCRATCH TO THE FUSION JUST FEW INCHES AWAY. NOW, WE WISH THAT THE FUSION WOULD HAVE BEEN IN IT' PLACE. WE NOTICED A RUBBING RIGHT AWAY TO FIND OUR THE STAMFORD DEALERSHIP SOLD US A CAR WITH SUMMER TIRES AND WARPED RIMS. DECEMBER 2012, LIGHT CAME ON WHICH LOOKED LIKE A FUEL CAP. THEY TOLD US IT'S A SENSOR AND WOULD COST $300.00 PART IS ON BACK ORDER. THEY RESET LIGHT. *TR
VEHICLE WOULD LOSE ALL RESPONSE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IT WOULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME WITHOUT WARNING, BUT FIRST HAPPENED AFTER SPEEDING UP AFTER GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP. THE NEXT DAY IT HAPPENED 3 TIMES. ON THAT LAST DAY, THE DAY OF THE APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP, IT HAPPENED 4 TIMES. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT REACT TO THE INPUT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. YOU WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER, ASSUMING THERE WAS A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER, AND SHUT THE CAR OFF IN PARK THEN RESTART IT. EVERYTHING WOULD BE NORMAL UNTIL IT ACTED UP AGAIN, ANYWHERE FROM 1 MILE TO 5 MILES LATER. OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, YOU CAN'T POWER THE VEHICLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC IT WERE TO HAPPEN ON A TURN OR MERGING ON A FREEWAY. A WRECK COULD VERY EASILY HAVE HAPPENED FROM THIS FAILURE. IT ENDED UP BEING A BAD ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AND THE TOTAL COST TO REPLACE WAS $352.40. *TR
DATE AND MILEAGE OF INCIDENT ARE GUESSES. HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY OR LOCAL ROADS, ENGINE STALLS AS IF IT HAD NO POWER, HOWEVER, THE TACHOMETER INDICATES ENGINE STILL RUNNING. EACH TIME THIS OCCURS, VEHICLE HAS TO BE STEERED ON TO SHOULDER. WHEN PULLING ONTO SHOULDER, IT VIBRATES TREMENDOUSLY. AFTER IT STOPS, YOU MUST PUT IT INTO PARK, THEN RESTART THE ENGINE. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO GOODYEAR WHERE IT WAS IDENTIFIED AS A P2111 FAULT. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT IT BE BROUGHT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER FOR SERVICING. BROUGHT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP A WEEK AGO. CONFIRMED AS P2111 FAULT. PART HAD TO BE ORDERED WHICH TOOK APPROXIMATELY 6 DAYS TO RECEIVE. AS OF THIS COMPLAINT, STILL WAITING ON SERVICE TO BE COMPLETED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,234.

REPAIRED- NOT COVERED UNDER 60K DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY. TODAY 7/9/13, WENT TO START PARKED CAR- ROLLED FORWARD WHEN IN PARK AND RELEASED EMERGENCY BRAKE. PUT BRAKE BACK ON , WOULD NOT START. TOWED- TOLD TRANSMISSION LINKAGE ISSUE AND WOULD REQUIRE 3-4 HOURS OF INVESTIGATION TO DIAGNOSE AS NOTHING AGAIN SHOWED ON COMPUTER. CAR W/ 59,200 MILES- AGAIN THEY NOTED MAY AGAIN BE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH. THE ENGINE LOST POWER AS THE ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT WENT ON. PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR HAD NO RESPONSIVE. I HAD TO NAVIGATE FREEWAY TRAFFIC WITH NO ENGINE POWER TO GET OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AS I CAME TO A STOP THE CAR JERKED A BIT BEFORE I PUT IT IN PARK. I TURNED IT OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A WHILE. AFTER TURNING THE CAR BACK ON I GOT BACK ON THE ROAD, ONLY TO HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN A FEW MILES LATER. *TR

I HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF COMPLETELY AND TRIED TO STARTED IT AGAIN, BUT THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS STILL ON AND KEPT ON SHAKING AGAIN. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WAITED APPROXIMATELY ONE MINUTE AND IT STARTED AGAIN. I WAS LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO PULL OVER, BUT I AM ASKING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO INVESTIGATE FORD FUSION PROBLEMS WITH THEIR "THROTTLE BODY" THAT HAS MULTIPLE TROUBLES REPORTS FROM FORD FUSION OWNERS. HOW CAN THE GOVERNMENT ALLOW VEHICLES THAT ARE DANGEROUS TO DRIVERS WHEN THE VEHICLES START STALLING ON THE ROAD AND ESPECIALLY ON THE FREEWAY. PLEASE DEMAND FORD RECALL THEIR FUSION TO REPLACE THE "THROTTLE BODY" STALLING PROBLEMS AND REIMBURSEMENT THE OWNERS FOR THEIR COST ASAP. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT 40MPH ON A BUSY MAIN ROAD I PULLED INTO THE TURNING LANE WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND DUE TO THE CAR NOT ACCELERATING THIS HAS CONSISTENTLY HAPPENED AT LEAST 8-9 TIMES IN A 4 DAY PERIOD. *TR
FORD FUSION 2012 3.0L V6 SEL GOES INTO "LIMP-MODE" WITHOUT WARNING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. A SLIGHT SHUDDER IMMEDIATELY BEFORE TRIPPING THE "LIMP-MODE" WHERE THE ACCELERATOR BECOMES DISABLED. NO OR MINIMAL POWER IS AVAILABLE TO PULL OUT OF TRAFFIC SAFELY. WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, HOWEVER, THE ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING. ONCE THE CAR TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, THE CAR RUNS NORMALLY UNTIL THE SYMPTOM HAPPENS AGAIN. NO OTHER SYMPTOMS ARE PRESENT PRIOR TO GOING INTO "LIMP-MODE". BROUGHT THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY SAVED ENGINE CODES AND COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. NO WORK WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM DUE TO NO EVIDENCE OF IT IN THE COMPUTER. HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, AND CREATES A HAZARDOUS DRIVING EXPERIENCE. *TR
