DRIVING AT 40 MPH ENGINE WENT INTO "LIMP MODE". THE ENGINE REMAINS RUNNING, BUT NO POWER. PULLED OVER AND SHUT ENGINE OFF. RESTARTED AND RAN FINE EXCEPT THE PROBLEM RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS AT ALL DIFFERENT SPEEDS. LOSING POWER AND/OR SPEED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR IN TRAFFIC COULD PROVE TO BE VERY DANGEROUS. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE THROTTLE VALVE WAS STICKING AND THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE OF THE GASOLINE ADDITIVES THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT MANDATES, BUT NOW I AM HEARING THAT IT IS PROBABLY FROM A DEFECTIVE CIRCUIT BOARD. VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR FOR A FAIRLY NEW VEHICLE. PROBLEM HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE THE REPAIR WAS DONE. *TR
POWER STEERING WENT OUT. SERVICE POWER STEERING MSG ALONG WITH SERVICE ADVANCETRAC MSG CAME UP ON DASH. TOOK CAR TO DEALER NEXT MORNING( SATURDAY 10/6/2012) STEERING STILL NOT WORKING AND SERVICE MESSAGES STILL ON DASH. SERVICE WRITER MOVED CAR LATER THAT DAY BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE A TECHNICIAN LOOK AT IT. HE STATED WHEN HE MOVED THE CAR THE STEERING WAS NOT WORKING(PROBLEM EXISTED) . CAR SAT AT DEALER UNTIL MONDAY 10/8 THEY CALLED AND SAID IT WAS WORKING PROPERLY AND THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM...THEY WOULD DRIVE IT AND SEE IF THEY COULD REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. IT IS NOW WEDNESDAY 10/10 AND THEY SAY THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE STEERING PROBLEM. THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO HELP ME.....SERVICE MANAGER SAID FORD WILL NOT LET THEM REPLACE PARTS ON A TRIAL AND ERROR BASIS.... BEFORE THEY CAN REPLACE A PART THEY MUST BE ABLE TO CONFIRM IT IS BAD.....THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN SAFELY IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN. *TR
AFTER PULLING ONTO A HIGHWAY MY FORD FUSION BEGAN TO JERK AND LOSE ACCELERATION. WHAT A HORRIBLE FEELING AT 6AM...IN THE DARK......WITH A HIGHWAY FULL OF SEMI TRUCKS WONDERING IF YOU CAN GET OFF THE ROAD BEFORE YOU ARE HIT! I PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICE MY WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON. I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL AND THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN THE RPM'S. IT WAS LIKE THE ENGINE WAS DEAD BUT STILL RUNNING. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON THREE TIMES THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OUT AND I DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. A FEW HOURS LATER THEY CALLED AND TOLD ME THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. OF COURSE THIS PART WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY MY 100,000 CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED WARRANTY!! AND ON TOP OF THAT THE DEALERSHIP CHARGED ME A $157.00 DIAGNOSTIC FEE....LIKE FORD DOESN'T KNOW THEY HAVE AN ISSUE. *TR
DRIVING ALONG. CAR SUDDENLY SEEMED TO LOOSE POWER. I SEEMED TO KICK OUT OF GEAR AND STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE GAS PEDAL. I HAD TO COST TO A STOP. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED, BUT AFTER I CUT THE KEY OFF AND RESTARTED THE "WRENCH" LIGHT WAS OFF AND ALL WORKED FINE. THIS HAPPENED 1 TIME THE FIRST DAY AND TWICE THE NEXT. NOTHING ELSE HAPPENED FOR 3 MORE DAYS BUT ON THE FOURTH DAY THE SAME THING HAPPENED. EACH TIME I HAD TO COAST TO A STOP. ONE TIME I WAS IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, SINCE THE COAST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A CURVE ON A VERY DARK ROAD. *TR
ON OCTOBER 4, 2012, I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 FORD FUSION AROUND 40 M.P.H. ON A FOUR LANE STREET WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED/LOCKED FOR NO REASON. THE ELECTRONIC DISPLAY SAID "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. SERVICE ADVANCETRAC" I DROVE STRAIGHT FOR 5 MILES AND KNEW THERE WAS A DEALER ON THE LEFT SIDE AND MANAGED A WIDE LEFT TURN INTO THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN I WAITED FOR THE REPRESENTATIVE TO COME TO MY CAR, I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. I EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED AND HE ASKED TO SEE THE DISPLAY. I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON, THE DISPLAY WAS GONE AND THE POWER STEERING WAS BACK ON. I LEFT THE DEALER AND WENT ON-LINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. I ALSO LEARNED THAT IT IS USELESS TO TAKE THE CAR TO FORD FOR SERVICE BECAUSE DEALERS CLAIM THAT THE COMPUTER IS NOT SHOWING A DIAGNOSTIC CODE AND THEY NEED TO "REPLICATE THE PROBLEM" (WHICH IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT IT WILL HAPPEN WHILE AT THE DEALER). I ALSO LEARNED THAT IT HAS HAPPENED TO SOME CUSTOMERS MANY TIMES AND THERE IS NO WARNING OR REASON WHY THE PS SUDDENLY FAILS. FURTHER, IT APPEARS THAT DEALERS HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IT IS DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY IF IT FAILS WHEN TRYING TO MAKE A TURN. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE AND IT COULD BE ANYTHING. I THEN CALLED CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS FOR FORD AND FILED A COMPLAINT. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME TODAY, OCTOBER 5, 2012. I HAVE HEARD NOTHING. THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED IMMEDIATELY. I CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY A NEW CAR. I ALSO CANNOT IN GOOD CONSCIENCE SELL MY CAR WITH THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT. I FEEL THAT FORD IS FORCING ME TO DRIVE AN UNSAFE CAR AND I AM EXTREMELY SCARED THAT THE PS WILL GO OUT AGAIN IN A SITUATION THAT WILL CAUSE ME TO CRASH OR WORSE. *TR THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING RACK. THE CONSUMER STATED THE POWER STEERING HAS NOT FAILED SINCE. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO STEER HARD AND WOULD PULL TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT WHEN BRAKING. ALSO, A SEAL FROM THE TRANSMI
I OWN A 2010 FORD FUSION WITH 19000 MILES. I HAVEN'T EVEN HAD IT A MONTH YET. IT IS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED VEHICLE. DRIVING HOME FROM WORK YESTERDAY, I STOPPED IN A LINE OF TRAFFIC AT A RED LIGHT. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I ACCELERATED. DURING ACCELERATION, THE CAR JERKED THEN LOST ALL FORWARD MOMENTUM AND "PUTTERED". I WAS ABLE TO "PUTTER" TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD OUT OF TRAFFIC. I PUT IT IN PARK AND NOTICED THAT THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS LIT UP, SO I PULLED OUT THE OWNER'S MANUAL TO SEE WHAT IT MEANT...POWERTRAIN. I TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES THEN RESTARTED IT WITH NO OTHER INCIDENTS ON MY WAY HOME. THANK GOD I WASN'T IN ANY HEAVIER TRAFFIC OR MULTIPLE LANES! FROM WHAT I'VE BEEN READING, SOME PEOPLE HAVE LOST ACCELERATION GOING 50+ MPH IN INTERSTATE/HIGHWAY TRAFFIC! IF THIS PROBLEM ISN'T ADDRESSED, AND SOON, SOMEONE WILL BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE DUE TO A DEFECT IN FORD'S DESIGN. *TR
AT 11:45 PM, I WAS TRAVELING WEST ON I-64, AT 68 MPH, WHEN MY CAR QUICKLY DECELERATED. DESPITE MY APPLYING MORE GAS, MY CAR CONTINUED TO LOSE POWER RAPIDLY AND BEGAN SHUDDERING. IT WAS THEN THAT THE "WRENCH" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED MY VEHICLE OFF AND PUT MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON. I WAITED FOR A 5 MINUTES BEFORE STARTING THE CAR AGAIN. THE CAR STARTED ROUGHLY BUT DID NOT HAVE ANY POWER AND COULD/WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT WAS AT THIS TIME THAT BOTH THE WRENCH AND ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. AGAIN I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND WAITED. AFTER ANOTHER 10-15 MINUTES, I TURNED THE CAR ON AGAIN. THIS TIME IT STARTED WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT DID NOT COME BACK ON BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. I KEPT MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND REMAINED IN THE BREAKDOWN LANE WHILE I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES TO THE CLOSEST EXIT OFF THE INTERSTATE WHERE I PROMPTLY PARKED MY CAR. *TR
ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY LITTLE GIRL IN THE BACK GOING 65 MPH, THEN SUDDENLY THE CAR WENT LIMP, LOST ALL POWER. I BARELY MADE IT THE SHOULDER. I WAS SO SCARED I TOOK MY DAUGHTER OUT THE CAR AND STAND HER ON THE FAR SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS IDLING VERY ROUGH, WITH THE SERVICE ENGINE WRENCH ON. I HAD IT TOWED, BUT I COULD HAVE SAVED SOME CASH BECAUSE AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR IT RAN FINE. THE DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG ' NO ERROR CODE, THEY TEST DRIVE IT AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. TURNS OUT IF YOU SHUT THE CAR OFF IT CLEARS THE ERROR CODE, HOW STUPID IS THIS! WHO IS GOING TO KEEP THE CAR RUNNING WHILE GETTING A TOW. I DROVE IT FOR ABOUT A MONTH THEN IT HAPPEN AGAIN, AND SURE ENOUGH ON THE HIGHWAY AGAIN. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND FROM MY RESEARCH ON THE WEB I TOLD THEM TO CHANGE THE THROTTLE BOX,' LET'S HOPE THIS FIX THE ISSUE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY VEHICLE ESSENTIALLY STALLED. THE ENGINE STILL APPEARED TO BE RUNNING (MINIMAL RPMS), BUT I COULDN'T ACCELERATE, SO THE SLOWDOWN TO A CRAWL WAS RATHER DRAMATIC. I WAS ABSOLUTELY LUCKY I WAS NOT INJURED AS I WAS NEARLY CLIPPED BY AN 18-WHEELER AS I ATTEMPTED TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE WRENCH-SHAPED LIGHT CAME ON, WHICH I HAD NEVER SEEN BEFORE. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED, BUT WHILE WAITING ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY MY BATTERY SHORTED OUT. THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP (WILLIS FORD OF SMYRNA, DELAWARE) WAS NOT ABLE TO GET ANY "CODES" FROM THE TEST THEY RUN. SO ALL THEY ENDED UP DOING WAS REPLACING MY BATTERY. I PICKED MY CAR UP THE FOLLOWING AFTERNOON AND IT SEEMED FINE. HOWEVER, THE NEXT MORNING (THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED ON THE 4TH, THE SECOND ON THE 6TH), THE SAME THING HAPPENED. ALBEIT I WAS ONLY DRIVING ABOUT 50MPH. ONCE AGAIN, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN DOVER, DELAWARE (WINNER FORD) ALSO COULD NOT GET THE CODE. BUT AFTER MY RESEARCH AND EXPLANATIONS, THEY WERE IN ROUGHLY 80% AGREEMENT THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY, SO WITH MY PERMISSION THEY REPLACED IT. THAT WAS ON THE 11TH OR 12TH. THEY HAD KEPT IT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND DROVE IT THEMSELVES TO TRY AND GET THE SITUATION TO REPLICATE, WHICH THEY COULDN'T DO. SINCE IT HAS BEEN REPLACED, IT HAS NOT HAPPENED. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT OF THIS PROCESS, BUT KNOWING THAT THERE'S AN INVESTIGATION MAKES ME FEEL A LITTLE LESS CRAZY. *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME CAR LOST POWER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON ALSO SHUDDERED PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE CAR. FAULT CLEARED AFTER THIS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2010 3.0 FORD FUSION ON SECONDARY ROADS, THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER. AFTER 5 MINUTES, IT COULD BE RESTARTED AND DRIVEN BUT AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS, IT WOULD LOSE POWER AGAIN AND COAST TO A STOP. IT STRANDED MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER UNTIL TOWED TO A DEALER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED A BAD THROTTLE BODY, AND CHARGED APPROXIMATELY $700.00 TO REPLACE THE PART AND PERFORM A RECOMMENDED FUEL SYSTEM CLEANING. REPEATED EMAIL TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE RESULTED IN A DENIAL OF RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE THEY WERE UNDER NO WARRANTY OR RECALL OBLIGATION. I SPOKE WITH A SERVICE WRITER WHO TOLD ME THAT THIS PROBLEM APPEARED TO BE CONSISTENT FOR FUSIONS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE STEERING COMPUTER MODULE WAS RESET. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 132,000.
THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR (AND OTHER DOORS AS I HAVE READ), BREAKS AT THE POINT OF CONTACT WITH THE SPRING RELEASE. ONCE THE HANDLE HAS BROKEN THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. OCCUPANTS MUST ROLL DOWN A WINDOW AND OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE, EFFECTIVELY TRAPPING THE OCCUPANT INSIDE THE VEHICLE SHOULD THE WINDOWS NOT ROLL DOWN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE WRENCH WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000. *TR
ON MY WAY TO WORK DOING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHEN CAR LOST POWER. THE ROUTE I TAKE HAS A HIGH VOLUME OF SEMI TRUCK TRAFFIC. AFRAID THAT I WOULD BE REAR ENDED I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND WAS ABLE TO PROCEED. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT MONTH UNTIL I COULD NOT GET IT TO MOVE HAD IT TOWED THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY IN DEC. OF 2012. IT IS NOW DEC. OF 2013 AND THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN AT 48000 MILES. THIS IS NOT ONLY DANGEROUS BUT COSTLY. *TR
WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, CAR KICKS OUT OF GEAR INTO IDLE MODE, WILL NOT ACCELERATE, SHAKES VIOLENTLY. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD AND TURN OFF ENGINE. RESTARTED ENGINE WITH LONGER THAN NORMAL CRANKING TIME. GEAR CHANGES (AUTOMATIC) CONTINUES TO BE SLUGGISH AND HAPPENS AT HIGHWAY AND CITY SPEEDS. *TR
THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTIONS WHILE CAR IS AT SPEED. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT APPEARS ON THE DISPLAY AND THEN THE CAR LOSES POWER AND BEGINS TO SHUDDER. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT RESETS THE DISPLAY AND STARTS FINE. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT BUT DANGEROUS AS THE CAR STOPS WORKING WHILE THE CAR IS GOING ANYWHERE FROM 25 TO 45 MPH. *TR
WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, CAR KICKS OUT OF GEAR INTO IDLING MODE, WILL NOT ACCELERATE, SHAKES VIOLENTLY. PULL OVER, TURN IT OFF, RESTART IT WITH NO PROBLEMS. SLUGGISH GEAR CHANGES (AUTOMATIC) HAPPENS AT TOWN AND HIGHWAY SPEED. *TR
THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON STEADY AND THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST ALL ENGINE POWER. HEADLIGHTS STAYED STILL ON AND HAZARD LIGHTS WORKED. I TRIED STARTING THE CAR BUT PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL PRODUCED NO MOVEMENT OF THE CAR NOR ANY INCREASE IN ENGINE SOUND. AFTER TRYING TO START IT SEVERAL TIMES, IT SEEMED LIKE IT STARTED BUT NOT A NORMAL START. THE ENGINE APPEARED TO BE VERY ROUGH BUT AGAIN, NO FAST ENGINE SOUND. IT KIND OF LIMPED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHICH WAS ON A VERY SLIGHT INCLINE. NO PRESSING OF THE GAS PEDAL PRODUCED ANY SIGNIFICANT MOVEMENT OF THE CAR. THE CAR WAS VIOLENTLY SHAKING AS IT LIMPED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AT MAYBE 2 MILES PER HOUR. ONCE I GOT IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD OUT OF TRAFFIC, I DID TURN IT OFF. I GAVE IT ABOUT 30 SECONDS AND IT STARTED NORMALLY. NO MORE WRENCH LIGHT. IT SEEMED TO WORK FINE AFTER THAT. I DROVE HOME ? ABOUT 90 MILES WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER. THE DEALER HAS BEEN SUPPORTIVE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS NOT BEEN SUPPORTIVE. WHEN I CALLED THE FORD DEALER EXPLAINING THE SYMPTOMS, THE SERVICE COORDINATOR?S FIRST QUESTION WAS, ?IS IT A FUSION?? HE ALREADY KNEW IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FUSIONS. HE SAID THAT I AM NOT GOING TO LIKE WHAT HE HAD TO SAY. HE SAID THAT FORD WILL NOT ALLOW HIM TO DO THE 30-MINUTE REPAIR UNLESS A CODE IS AVAILABLE IN THE OBD UNIT. I BROUGHT IT IN AND NO CODE WAS FOUND. THEY TRIED FOR TWO DAYS TO GET IT TO CODE. THE SERVICE MANAGER PLEADED WITH FORD?S UPPER LEVEL TO ALLOW THE REPAIR BUT THEY WERE INFLEXIBLE. THEIR RESPONSE ? ?NO CODE, NO REPAIR.? FORD?S CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER WAS USELESS! THEY OFFERED NO HELP. THE LOCAL DEALER HAD SIX CARS THE WEEK AFTER MY CAR DIED WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS MINE. I WAS PLACED BACK ON THE ROAD WITH FORD KNOWING I WOULD AGAIN BE STRANDED. IT HAPPENED AGAIN 4 WEEKS LATER. *TR

A WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT APPEARS ON DASH. WENT TO NEAREST GAS STATION AND ATTENDANT COULD NOT HELP MUCH SO WE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO KEEP GOING. MANAGED TO ROLL TO SIDE OF STREET AND TURNED KEY OFF. RESTARTED AND THEN AFTER DRIVING A FEW MINUTES DID THE SAME THING; THIS TIME BARELY AVOIDING A MAJOR COLLISION! THIS HAPPENED 7 TIMES IN A COUPLE OF MILE RADIUS BEFORE I COULD GET TO A GARAGE; VERY DANGEROUS! DISCOVERED THAT IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY AND COMPUTER CODES REVEAL IT IS STICKING OPEN AND CLOSED. AFTER RESEARCH ON COMPUTER HAVE DISCOVERED COUNTLESS PEOPLE WITH SAME PROBLEM FROM THEIR FUSIONS. FORD MUST ISSUE A RECALL! THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! *JS

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ENTER A PARKING SPACE WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, JUMPED A CURB AND CRASHED INTO A STORE WINDOW. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BRUISES TO THE BODY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED FOR SURGE ACCELERATION. I PULLED OUT OF MY WORKS PARKING LOT AND GOT 50 FT. CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN, SHAKE/ VIBRATE VIOLENTLY, AND EMERGENCY WRENCH LITE LIT UP. WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE IN PARK, IT SHOOK. I WENT TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE RODE SAFELY. THANK GOOD NESS I WAS ON A DOWNHILL AND COULD COAST TO A SIDE ROAD (BUT STILL NOT SAFE WHERE I WAS). DRIVING 55-60 MPH ON FREEWAY WHEN CAR SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER. IT DID NOT STALL. IT WOULD JUMP AHEAD INCHES AT A TIME IF I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR BUT VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS CARS BEHIND ME HAD NO WARNING THAT I WAS GOING TO SUDDENLY JUST STOP. IT TOOK ME 10 MINUTES AT LEAST TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND THIS ONLY BECAUSE A LONG HAUL TRUCKER FINALLY REALIZED WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND BLOCKED TRAFFIC FOR ME TO LIMP TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR STOPPED GETTING POWER WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS. I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON, ADDED A LITTLE MORE TRANS FLUID AND THE CAR SEEMED TO BE OK TO GET ME THE REST OF THE WAY TO WORK. I LEFT IT IN A PARKING LOT FOR THE NIGHT AND RETURNED TO CHECK IT OUT IN THE LIGHT. I JACKED IT UP AND FOUND SOME FLUID SLOWLY COMING OUT OF THE PLACE WHERE THE AXLE GOES INTO THE TRANSMISSION. I CALLED THE FORD SERVICE CENTER, EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED AND EXPLAINED WHAT I FOUND. I HAD THE RECALL FOR THE TRANSMISSION DONE IN 2011 FOR FORD FUSION 2010S BUT THE ROUGH SHIFTING HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE I BOUGHT IT. I HAVE HAD CONSTANT TROUBLE WITH THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING ROUGH AND NOW LOSING ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55MPH. IT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. WHEN MY FIANCE CAME HOME A FEW HOURS LATER HE WENT AND GOT THE CAR AND IT RAN WITHOUT A PROBLEM AND CONTINUED TO DO SO FOR A MONTH OR SO WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN BUT THIS TIME IT STARTED AND RAN AGAIN AFTER JUST A COUPLE OF MINUTES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. THE NEXT TIME WAS IN AUGUST 2013 AND A FAULT FINALLY SHOWED IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. OF COURSE THIS WAS AFTER MY WARRANTY WAS UP AND NOW I HAVE TO PAY OVER $600 TO GET IT FIXED. I HAVE BEEN DOING RESEARCH AND WHY HASN'T A RECALL BEEN ISSUED? I AM NOW 900 MILES FROM HOME AND THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE ON MY WAY TO INDIANA WHERE I AM MOVING. I WAS STUCK FOR HOURS ON I 30 W UNTIL THE CAR FINALLY DECIDED TO MOVE AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO GET ME INTO AUBURN, INDIANA WHERE THE FORD DEALER WILL HAVE TO FIX IT BEFORE I CAN HEAD HOME AND I HAVE NO GUARANTEE IT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM IF JUST THE THROTTLE BODY IS CHANGED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED TO 25 MPH AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AND FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. A PRIVATE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT WAS IN TRAFFIC AND NEITHER THE BRAKE PEDAL NOR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL FORWARD. IMMEDIATELY, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED TO 35 MPH. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CONTROL THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION BUT THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE BRAKES HAD BECOME OPERABLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT DID NOT RESTRAIN THE CONTACT PROPERLY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A FRACTURED TOE, A BRUISED STERNUM AND BRUISING TO THE FOREHEAD. THE POLICE REPORTED TO THE SCENE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE. THE POLICE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT AN ENGINEER WOULD BE SENT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. PRIOR TO THE CRASH, THE CONTACT NOTICED SLIGHT SURGING AND HAD TAKEN TO THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TECHNICIAN RECALIBRATED THE COMPUTER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD MY CAR STARTED SHAKING REALLY BAD AND HAD NO POWER PUSHING ON THE GAS AND WOULD DO NOTHING I HAD NO WHERE TO PULL OFF FINALLY COASTED TO A DRIVE AND SHUT IT OFF AND STARTED BACK UP AND IT RAN FIND FOR ABOUT A MONTH THEN AS I WAS GOING ACROSS THE HIGHWAY I GAVE IT GAS AND IT WOULD DO NOTHING AND I NEARLY GOT HIT BY A SEMI TRUCK. READ IN PAPER THAT YOU WERE LOOKING AT FORD THROTTLE BODY. I WAS IN FAST LANE ON I-66 ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON. SUDDENLY CAR STOPPED. I WAS LUCKY THERE WAS ROOM ON LEFT APRON TO PULL OFF. CAR RESTARTED WHEN I TRIED--WENT 1000 FEET AND STOPPED AGAIN; NOW IN RIGHT LANE AND PULLED OFF. KNEW THERE WAS AN OFF RAMP 1/4 MILE AHEAD AND LIMPED ON APRON WITH CARS PASSING. THE ENTIRE SITUATION WAS VERY DANGEROUS IN MY ESTIMATION. WHEN RESTARTING, IT WAS HARD TO TELL IF AUTO WAS RUNNING OR NOT. WHEN RESTARTING AUTO BACKFIRED ETC. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT HAD REPORTED TO FORD DEALER THAT TRANSMISSION SOMETIME "CLUNKED" WHEN I PUT AUTO IN REVERSE IN THE MORNING. THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM. HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE I PAID TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. *TR

THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN JERKING SINCE WE BOUGHT IT I BELIEVE IN 2012. IT JERKS AT 25 TO 35 (EST...) AND NOT ALL THE TIME. IT ALSO DOES IT WHEN YOU PUT IT INTO DRIVE COMING OUT OF REVERSE. GOING TO THE OWNERS MANUAL WE FOUND OUT IT WAS REPLACED AT 8000 MILES (EST) WITH PRIOR OWNER. ALSO ARE TAIL LIGHTS EDGING KEEPS CHIPPING OR BREAKING OFF. I SEE IT ON MOST FORD FUSION. WE WERE TRAVELING ON BUSY I-80 AT APPROXIMATELY 70 M.P.H. DUE TO BUSY VEHICULAR TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE HI-WAY, I WAS NOT USING THE CRUISE-CONTROL. WHEN WE EXPERIENCED THE INCIDENT, I HAD PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL TO MAINTAIN SPEED ON AN UPHILL SECTION. ON THE UPHILL SECTION, I NOTICED THE VEHICLE DID NOT ACCELERATE AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING. EVEN WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC, I WAS ABLE TO NEGOTIATE MANEUVERING THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER. AS I WAS COASTING ON THE SHOULDER, I SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION TO NEUTRAL AND TRIED TO START THE ENGINE (EV SYSTEM DID NOT RESPOND EITHER) WITH NO AVAIL. AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, I SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION TO PARK, TURNED-OFF THE CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM AND THE AND RADIO. I REMOVED THE IGNITION KEY AND RE-INSTALLED IT AND PROCEEDED TO START THE VEHICLE, THE PROPULSION SYSTEM (EV MODE) RESPONDED. WE ACCELERATED ON THE SHOULDER IN EV MODE AND WE REACHED SPEED THE GAS ENGINE RESPONDED AND WE WERE BACK ON I-80 AND TRAVELING WITH THE TRAFFIC FLOW. THIS IS FIRST TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED WITH US BUT RESEARCHING THIS PHENOMA, THIS EVENT HAS HAPPENED WITH OTHER FORD FUSION HYBRID OWNERS. WE ARE CONCERNED THE PROPULSION SYSTEM MAY SHUT-DOWN IN AN UNSAFE ENVIRONMENT AND CREATE A DANGEROUS SITUATION! *TR

I HAD NOT HAD ANY ISSUES WITH MY CAR, BUT I LEFT MY HOUSE TO DRIVE MY DAUGHTER TO TUMBLING WHICH WAS 7 MILES FROM MY HOUSE. I WAS ABOUT 3 MILES FROM MY HOME WHEN A WARNING SOUND AND THE LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD STATED CHECK POWER STEERING. I ASSUMED THAT I NEEDED POWER STEERING. I ARRIVED AT TUMBLING, PARKED FOR AN HOUR. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR A NEW MESSAGE WAS ON THE DASH STATING SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW AND SERVICE ADVANCE AUTOTRAC. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND BACKED UP, BUT WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL IT WAS LOCKED, I COULD BARELY MOVE THE WHEEL. I WAS BLOCKING THE TRAFFIC IN THE PARKING LOT AND HAD TO PULL FORWARD AND PARK. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON AND RECEIVED THE SAME MESSAGE. THEREFORE I WAS STRANDED IN THE PARKING LOT. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD SERVICE DEPT. THEY TOLD US THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING WITH FORD FUSIONS AS WELL AS OTHER FORDS BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL. I PAID FOR THEM TO PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC TEST THE RESULTS WERE THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE STEERING PANEL FOR $1500 AND THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER, BUT FIRST THEY RESET THE CODES, AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING WAS GONE THE CAR TEST DROVE AND DROVE HOME FINE. THE NEXT MORNING I LEFT TO TAKE MY DAUGHTERS TO SCHOOL AND THE SAME CYCLE OF EVENTS HAPPENED I WAS AFRAID TO TURN THE CAR OFF WHEN I DROPPED THEM OFF AT SCHOOL SO THAT I WOULD NOT BE STRANDED. I KEPT THE CAR ON AND DROVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR PAID AGAIN FOR A TEST AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. I TOLD THEM TO REPAIR THE CAR. I CALLED FORD CO. AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND ALTHOUGH I SAW NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET THEY WERE NOT TRUE. MEANWHILE MY CAR IS READY AND I HAVE TO COME UP WITH 1500 FOR AN ISSUE THAT FORD KNOWS THEY ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH. I AM AFRAID MY CAR WILL HAVE PROBLEMS AGAIN, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN IT COMES TO STEERING. *TR
