TODAY MY 2010 FORD FUSION LOST ACCELERATION ON I35 SURROUNDED BY SEMI-TRUCKS AT 70MPH. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND WE COULD NOT GET OUT OF THE WAY OF THE TRUCKS BEHIND US. FORTUNATELY THE TRUCKS WERE ABLE TO GO AROUND US AND THE TRAFFIC BEHIND US WAS ABOUT A COUPLE OF MILES AWAY. WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE THREE LANE HIGHWAY WITH MY 18 MONTH OLD SON IN THE BACK SEAT, SO I'M ASTONISH THAT FORD COULD BUILD SUCH A CAR AND NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE SAFETY ISSUE. WE WERE ABLE TO COAST TO SO THE SHOULDER AND TURN THE CAR OFF. THE CAR CAME BACK ON WITH NO ISSUES INDICATED ON THE DASH. WE THEN STARTED OUR WAY DOWN I35 AND THE CAR LOST ACCELERATION AGAIN AT 70MPH. THIS TIME I WAS PREPARED AND EASILY COASTED ONTO THE SHOULDER. THE CAR WAS ROUGH IN IDLE, BUT WHEN WE TURNED IT OFF AND ON AGAIN IT WAS FINE. I MADE THE DECISION NOT TO HIT 70MPH BUT TO GO ONLY 60 UNTIL WE GOT HOME. TODAY WE WENT TO SEA WORLD AND ON THE WAY HOME WE ALMOST BECAME ANOTHER STATISTIC BECAUSE OF THE FORD COMPANY. I WILL GO TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE FUSION FROM TO SEE HOW THEY CAN HELP. *TR
ALL OF A SUDDEN THE RPM'S IMMEDIATELY DROPPED TO A ROUGH IDLE. ALL THROTTLE RESPONSE WAS LOST, I PULLED OVER ON THE HIGHWAY, WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS IN LIMP MODE WITH THE CHECK ENGINE AND WRENCH LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE ENGINE WAS IDLING VERY ERRATICALLY AND SHAKING, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. AFTER SHUTTING DOWN THE CAR, IT RESTARTED OK AND DROVE. IT SUDDENLY DID THE SAME THING 2 MORE TIMES BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME. THE OBD2 CODE WAS P2111, THE DRIVE BY WIRE THROTTLE BODIES ON THESE CARS ARE FAULTY. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
THROTTLE CONTROL IS DEFECTIVE. I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. THE THROTTLE CONTROL GOES BAD AND THEN THE CAR WILL ABRUPTLY LOSE POWER AND STOP IN TRAFFIC. WE WERE LUCKY THAT WE WEREN'T ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. IN ORDER TO MOVE YOU HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND SHUT IT OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON. I HAD TO HAVE MINE REPLACED YESTERDAY. THE CAR IS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
WAS BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND GOT A WARNING LIGHT THAT SAID THE POWER STEERING NEEDED SERVICED AND THEN THE STEERING GOT HARD...IM A GROWN MAN AND IT IS SO HARD FOR ME TO DRIVE AND TURN THE WHEELS.THIS IS MY WIFE'S CAR AND IM SO THANKFUL SO WASN'T DRIVING IT WHEN THIS HAPPENED THERE'S NO WAY SHE COULD HAVE CONTROLLED IT.VERY BAD DESIGN AND A SAFETY ISSUE. *JS
I HAD THIS ISSUE WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR. DRIVING ON THE HWY GOING 65 AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR LOST ACCELERATION AND SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND STALLED OUT. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO STEALTH MODE. THIS HAPPEN AGAIN ON 07/16/2012, MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR. THEN IT HAPPEN AGAIN ON 07/28/2012. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID NOT GET ANY OF THE CODES, I GUESS BECAUSE WE TURNED THE CAR OFF. AT THIS POINT, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT TATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE THROTTLE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
I HAD JUST SCHEDULE TO DO MY 75K MAINTENANCE ON 7/27/12, WHICH I DID. THE DAY BEFORE I HAD DRIVEN HOME FROM WORK AND MY CAR GOES INTO LOW RPM'S, AND THE THROTTLE STOPS WORKING BUT THE CAR IS STILL ON! I IMMEDIATELY PUT ON MY HAZARDS IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC HOPING I CAN FIND A SHOULDER IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE. AN 18 WHEELER NEARLY KNOCKED ME OFF A BRIDGE WHEN I WAS DRIFTING TO SAFETY AT 15MPH. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AS THE CAR IDLES AT 700 RPM'S. I START IT UP AGAIN AND I AM ABLE TO DRIVE. IN TWO DAYS IT HAS HAPPEN ONCE AGAIN, AND NOW MY AVERAGE MILES PER GALLON HAS GONE DOWN FROM 27.4MPG TO 19/20 MPG!!! WHERE IS THE RECALL...TOO COMMON OF AN ISSUE FOR A MOTOR TREND CAR OF THE YEAR!!! *TR
MY 2010 FORD FUSION V6 SEL SURGED, SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND STALLED OUT. A LIGHT SHAPED LIKE WRENCH APPEARED. I PULLED OVER AND LET IT REST FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS, THEN TRIED TO START. IT STARTED UP AND I DROVE HOME. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE, I FOUND MANY, MANY OTHER FORD CUSTOMERS WITH MY YEAR VEHICLE WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. DEALERS WERE TELLING THEM IT'S A BAD THROTTLE BODY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000. UPDATED 10/10/12 *CN
WAS DRIVING DOWN ROAD GOING 40 MILES PER HOUR CAR STARTED STALLING AND CUT OFF IN TRAFFIC HAD TO HURRY UP AND THROW HAZARD LIGHTS ON PLACE GEARS IN PARK THEN RESTART CAR. RECEIVE A DIAGNOSIS AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY VERY SCARY INCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING 50 MPH WHILE THE CONTACT WAS SITTING IDLE. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE LID TO THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG COMPARTMENT EXPLODED AND BORE A HOLE THE SIZE OF A FIST THROUGH THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED NECK, BACK, CHEST AND RIB INJURIES FROM THE IMPACT. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED WITH THE MANNER IN WHICH THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
DRIVING ON FLORIDA TURNPIKE, JUST GOT ON HIGHWAY AND AT HIGH SPEED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, DIAGNOSED AS CODE P2111, THROTTLE STUCK OPEN BY DTC READER. IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER AND ABOUT GRINDED TO A HALT, HAD TO PULL OFF ROAD AND LIMP TO NEXT EXIT. VEHICLE STUCK IN IDLE UNTIL RESTARTED AND HAD NO FURTHER PROBLEMS FOR A FEW MILES BUT KEEPS COMING UP. CANNOT DRIVE CAR ON HIGHWAY FOR FEAR OF ANOTHER DANGEROUS FAILURE. FORD SAYS THROTTLE BODY IS BAD, NO WARRANTIED AFTER 36,000 MILES. *TR
ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM: THROTTLE PLATE STUCK OPEN - VEHICLE SHUT DOWN ON FREEWAY WOULD NOT START ONLY AFTER 5 MIN WAIT THEN HAPPENED AGAIN 10 MIN LATER STOPPED AGAIN WAITED 5 MORE MIN NEXT MORNING CAR STARTED FINE THEN AFTER A FEW MINS OF DRIVING STOPPED AGAIN HAVING TROUBLE STAYING ON... *TR
THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AT 70 MPH AND A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. THIS WAS VERY, VERY DANGEROUS. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AS IT WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD ANYWAY. IT HAD A ROUGH RESTART, BUT THEN SEEMED TO BE BETTER THOUGH STILL RUNNING ROUGH. THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OUT. IT TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICING AT THE DEALER WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS WAS A VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS EXPERIENCE. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE EXPRESSWAY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON MY ENGINE RETURNED TO IDLE SPEED AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I HAD TO COAST TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, SHUT IT OFF, AND RESTART IT. THE NEXT DAY THIS HAPPENED AGAIN TWICE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I READ THE CODE AND IT WAS P2112 THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK SHUT. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND THERE ARE APPARENTLY SOME KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE DEALER TOLD ME THIS PART ISN'T COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED EMISSIONS WARRANTY. I WAS LUCKY THAT THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN WHILE I WAS TURNING OR MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. *TR
WAS DRIVING ON AT 65MPH ON A STATE HIGHWAY AND PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE ACCELERATOR. THE ENGINE DROPPED TO 750 RPM AND WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING IN RESPONSE TO MY ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE SLOWED QUITE RAPIDLY BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND I HAD TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID A CRASH. THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO IT HAPPENING AND NO SOUNDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE INCIDENT. IF MY WIFE HAD BEEN DRIVING I KNOW THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. AFTER TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTING IT, THE VEHICLE DROVE PROPERLY. WHEN I RETURNED HOME, I CHECKED FOR ANY CODES AND FOUND THERE WERE NONE. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR AND WAS TOLD "IT IS PROBABLY THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROL; WE KNOW THERE HAVE BEEN MANY INCIDENTS LIKE THIS". THIS WAS REPORTED YESTERDAY IN ANOTHER INCIDENT BUT NOT WITH "SPEED CONTROL" AS THE AFFECTED PART. I DID NOT KNOW IT WAS AN OPTION AT THAT TIME. *TR
ON 7/22/2012 AT APPROXIMATELY 2000 HOURS MY FAMILY WAS TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON GEORGIA STATE ROUTE 3 - US HWY. 41 IN ROCKY FACE, GEORGIA WHEN OUR VEHICLE (2010 FORD FUSION AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) SUDDENLY WITHOUT NOTICE WENT FROM A SOLID CRUISING SPEED OF 40MPH TO AN ABRUPT HALT - NOSE OF THE CAR ACTUALLY WENT FORWARD TOWARDS THE GROUND SO ABRUPTLY THAT IT MADE CONTACT WITH THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE STALLED (STILL BARELY RUNNING) IN THE LANE OF TRAVEL AND WOULD NOT GET ANY THROTTLE ACCELERATION. MY FAMILY AND VEHICLE WAS ALMOST STRUCK BY ON COMING MOTORISTS FROM THE REAR DUE TO THE ABRUPT STOPPING AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BARELY GET ANY THROTTLE ACCELERATION. AFTER THE GEORGIA STATE PATROL TROOPER CAME TO ASSIST THE CAR WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 25 MPH WITHOUT SUDDENLY STALLING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON ALONG WITH AN ORANGE WRENCH SYMBOL. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE ABANDONED AT THE DALTON GEORGIA STATE PATROL POST DUE TO THIS ISSUE UNTIL FORD COULD SEND A REPRESENTATIVE TO TOW THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED. THE LOCAL DEALER ON 7/23/12 INFORMED US THAT THIS IS AN ON-GOING PROBLEM THAT FORD IS AWARE OF AND THAT THE "THROTTLE BODY" WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. UPON FURTHER ONLINE INVESTIGATION I FOUND THAT THIS ISSUE IS WIDESPREAD AND REPORTED SINCE 2010 & HAS CAUSED VERY UNSAFE CONDITIONS FOR MOTORISTS SUCH AS IT DID WITH MY FAMILY. I AM ASKING YOU ALL TO LOOK INTO RECALLING THE "THROTTLE BODY" ON THE 2010 FORD FUSIONS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT FORD IS AWARE OF AND THEY ARE BLATANTLY PASSING THE BLAME OFF ONTO THE CONSUMER AND SOMEONE (IF NOT MY OWN FAMILY) IS GOING TO GET HURT. IT IS UNSAFE FOR A LATE MODEL VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN SERVICED AS REQUIRED BY THE MANUFACTURE EVERY 3-5 MONTHS TO HAVE THESE ABRUPT ISSUES AND BREAK MY FAMILY DOWN IN THE ROADWAY OF TRAVEL ON A MAJOR US HIGHWAY. NHTSA PLEASE HAVE FORD CORRECT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED!! *TR
DRIVING AT 65MPH IN TRAFFIC ON A STATE HIGHWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR. VEHICLE WENT TO APPROXIMATELY 750 RPM AND THERE WAS NO SPEED CONTROL. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT ANY WARNING AS I WAS PASSING ANOTHER CAR AND REQUIRED ME TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID COLLISION. DEALERSHIP SAYS IT WAS THROTTLE BODY CONTROL UNIT AND THAT THERE ARE "KNOWN PROBLEMS". *TR
AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THERE WAS A CONTROLLED LOSS OF POWER TO THE ENGINE. UPON SHUTTING DOWN AND RESTARTING, THE PROBLEM CLEARED BUT RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AND THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. *JB
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, MY ENGINE LOST POWER. RPMS WENT DOWN, AND THE ACCELERATOR WAS NOT RESPONSIVE. I PULLED THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND PUT IT IN PARK. THE ENGINE IDLED VERY ROUGHLY. I SHUT OFF THE CAR, WAITED 5 SECONDS AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART. THE ENGINE DID RESTART AFTER SOME EFFORT BY THE STARTER. I DROVE DOWN THE ROAD, AND THE CAR BEHAVED NORMALLY. THIS SEEMINGLY ISOLATED INCIDENT INCREASED IN FREQUENCY IN THE FOLLOWING WEEKS. SOMETIMES UP TO 5 TIMES A DAY. I TOOK MY CAR TO AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALER, AND THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. COST OF REPLACEMENT IS $355. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ONLINE AND NOTICED THAT THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE FAIRLY COMMON AMONG 2010 FORD FUSION OWNERS. THE ONLINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT FUSION THROTTLE BODY PROBLEMS WERE EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE SYMPTOMS I EXPERIENCED. THE DANGER LIES IN THE FACT THAT THE CAR BASICALLY STALLS WITHOUT WARNING AND MUST BE RESTARTED BEFORE NORMAL DRIVING CAN RESUME. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AT BOTH HIGHWAY AND CITY SPEEDS. A STALLED ENGINE IN THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME (MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, FREEWAY, WHILE PASSING, ETC.) COULD HAVE DISASTROUS EFFECTS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 70 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAD NO GAS PEDDLE. I HAD MY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE CAR AT THE TIME. I HAD NO CLUE WHAT WAS GOING ON AND ALMOST GOT HIT FROM BEHIND BC I HAD NOT TOUCHED MY BRAKE YET. I PULLED OVER AND MY CAR DID RESTART BUT I DID NOT MAKE IT FAR BEFORE IT DID IT AGAIN. I TOOK GOT MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY CAR HAS 40,000 MILES I GOT IT BRAND NEW OFF THE LOT AND IT'S NOT COVERED IN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP ACTED LIKE IT WAS NO BIG DEAL. LET ME DRIVE OFF THE LOT. THEY ALSO WANTED 250 MORE TO REPAIR IT. LOOKING ONLINE I'M FINDING OUT THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO SO MANY PEOPLE. FORD NEEDS TO HAVE A RECALL ON THIS PART BEFORE SOMEONE DOES IN AN ACCIDENT. I CALLED FORD MYSELF AND FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT. PLEASE EVERYONE MUST DO THE SAME THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING TO SOMEONE ELSE. *TR
THE VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMITED POWER MODE (LIMP MODE) WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT FAST SPEEDS AND LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE REFUSED TO ACCELERATE AND ALMOST CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT. I SUSPECT THAT A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY IS THE PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2010 FORD FUSION HAS A POWER SUNROOF AND ONE DAY, WHEN I TRIED TO CLOSE THE SUNROOF, IT WOULD NOT CLOSE ALL THE WAY. AFTER INSPECTION, I VERIFIED THAT A PIECE OF PLASTIC HAD BROKEN OFF THE SUNROOF RAIL THAT IS CRITICAL TO PUSHING DOWN THE AUTOMATIC WIND DEFLECTOR. THE WIND DEFLECTOR STAYS UP AND THE SUNROOF RUNS INTO IT DIRECTLY, PREVENTING IT FROM CLOSING PROPERLY. AFTER DETAILED INSPECTION, THERE ARE SEVERAL CRACKS IN THE ROOF RAIL PLASTIC AND MUST BE REPLACED ENTIRELY. THIS REPAIR WILL COST MORE THAN $1,000 AND I HAVE NOT EVEN REACHED 70,000 MILES YET. I ALSO HARDLY EVER USE THE SUNROOF. *TR
WITH NO WARNING OR OTHER SIGNS, THE CAR STALLED OUT. DRIVING ON A FLAT /STRAIGHT ROAD. PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE CAR WITHOUT ISSUE. 3HRS LATER THE SAME ISSUE. TWO DAYS AFTER THAT MY WIFE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. CHECKING ON THE INTERNET, THIS SEEMS TO BE A RE-OCCURRING THEME FOR THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODIES OF THE FORD FUSION. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, MY CAR SLOW DOWN QUICKLY AND A LIGHT CAME ON THAT LOOKED LIKE A WRENCH. I HAD TO PULL OVER QUICKLY AND TRY TO RESTART THE CAR, IT RESTARTED AND I WAS ON MY WAY. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL OTHER TIMES AND EVENTUALLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD START, BUT WOULDN'T MOVE. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, TO BE TOLD I NEEDED A NEW THROTTLE BODY ON A VEHICLE THAT WAS TWO YEARS OLD. THE WARRANTY WAS UP DUE TO THE MILEAGE AND THE COST WAS AROUND $600. THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE, BUT FORD IS NOT STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE AND COVERING THE COST OF THE REPAIR.

I WAS LOSING SPEED AND HAD TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY CAUSING THE SEMI AND OTHER VEHICLES BEHIND ME TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES... THE SEMI NARROWLY MISSED ME. ONCE TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY I TURNED MY CAR OFF WAITED A SECOND AND RESTARTED IT. IT RAN FINE FOR ABOUT 5 MILES AND IT DID IT AGAIN. IT DID THIS A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES ON THE WAY TO WORK AND 5 ON THE WAY HOME. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO A SERVICE CENTER AND THE CODE THEY GOT WAS "P2111 THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN". I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT 2011 AND 12 FUSIONS HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT THE 2010 BUT SEE THAT MANY 2010 OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE AS I HAVE HAD. WHY ARE 2010 FUSIONS NOT BEING RECALLED FOR A BAD THROTTLE BODY? IT IS A VERY SCARY AND SERIOUS PROBLEM AND ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR EVEN KILLED. I WAS LUCKY. *TR
I ACCELERATED AWAY FROM A STOP LIGHT AND AS I SHIFTED FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR THE CAR JERKED AND I HAD NO POWER AT ALL THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT WHEN I PUT MY FOOT INTO THE ACCELERATOR NOTHING HAPPENED. AS I WAS LEAVING WORK AND PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT, THE ENGINE SPUTTERED, CHOKED, WHEEZED AND EVENTUALLY WOULD NOT GO OVER 10-15 MPH. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE DIED. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED THE NEXT DAY TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT I HAD A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY THAT HAD CAUSED THE PROBLEM AND ALSO HAD CREATED A LOT OF DEBRIS IN THE FUEL INTAKE SYSTEM. CLEANING OF THE FUEL INTAKE SYSTEM AND REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY WAS AROUND $700. I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT AT THE TIME UNTIL I SAW ON THE NEWS THAT NHTSA HAD OPENED AN INQUIRY INTO THIS POSSIBLE DEFECT ON THE FUSIONS, SO I WANTED TO ADD THAT I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM AS WAS BEING INVESTIGATED. *TR

RETURNING TO TN FROM VACATION IN FL ON 7/15/12. TRAVELING BEFORE BIRMINGHAM, AL - HEARD A LOUD BOOM SOUND (LIKE A TIRE BLOW OUT), THEN HEARD A ROAR. AS WE SIGNALED TO MOVE FROM THE FAST LANE TO THE EMERGENCY LANE - FLAMES WERE OVER THE BACK WINDOW OF THE CAR. BY THE TIME THAT WE REACHED THE EMERGENCY LANE, THE ENTIRE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE. THE CAR WAS ENTIRELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES WITHIN 10 TO 20 SECONDS. I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR FROM MOSS MOTOR COMPANY IN SOUTH PITTSBURGH, TN ON 6/4/12. THE CAR HAD ISSUES WITHIN TWO WEEKS THAT REQUIRED THE CAR TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER FOR POWERTRAIN ISSUE. THE VERY NEXT DAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME I DID NOT SHUT THE CAR OFF, BUT LIMPED @ 5-6 MPH TO MY DEALER AND SHOWED THEM THE WRENCH LIGHT AND THE FACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND LEFT THE VEHICLE WITH THEM. I ALSO TOLD THEM NOT TO RESTART IT UNTIL THEY READ THE CODES. AFTER RESEARCH ON THE WEB, I FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM IS QUITE RAMPANT IN FORDS AND HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL YEARS. THE PROBLEM IS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. MY DEALER FOUND THE CODE THAT I GAVE THEM WHEN THEY CHECKED MY CAR. I HAD TO HAVE IT FIXED AS I NEED THE CAR FOR WORK. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING. APPARENTLY, THE PROBLEM IS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE CONTROL. IT WAS REPLACED FOR A PRICE SLIGHTLY LESS THAN $500. THE REPLACEMENT COMES WITH A 12 MONTH, 12,000 MILE WARRANTY. CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO VENT MY FRUSTRATION ON THIS EXPENSIVE MAINTENANCE ITEM. RESPONSE FROM FORD WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING. MY CLAIM WAS DENIED SINCE MY CAR IS LESS THAN 4,000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT THIS EVENT DID NOT OCCUR ON A HIGHWAY AND I WAS CLOSE TO MY HOME. SEARCHING THE INTERNET SHOWED THAT THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE WITH FORD FUSIONS. THIS IS THE FIRST FORD I HAVE PURCHASED AND WILL BE THE LAST FORD I WILL PURCHASE. IT STRUGGLED THEN JUST STALLED RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I LOOKED AT THE DASH AND I NOTICED THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. WHILE I WAS TRYING NOT TO DIE IN TRAFFIC I PUT MY CAR INTO NEUTRAL WHERE I TURNED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION THEN BACK TO THE ON POSITION. LUCKILY MY CAR CAME BACK ON BUT IT WAS STILL STRUGGLING. I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT WHERE TURNED IT OFF AGAIN. I GAVE IT A FEW MINUTES TO RECOVER THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AGAIN. EVERYTHING NOW APPEARED TO WORKING NORMAL. I OPENED THE HOOD TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING SEAMED OKAY (NOTHING BURNING, SMOKING, OR ANYTHING ELSE OUT OF THE ORDINARY), EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT OKAY. ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO MENTION THAT MY TRANSMISSION SOMETIMES FAILS TO GO INTO GEAR THEN ALL THE SUDDEN IT GOES INTO GEAR AND JERKS REALLY HARD. ADDITIONALLY MY LOWER GEARS WILL SHIFT VERY HARD. WHEN IT SHIFTS IT ACTS AS IF SOMEONE HAD PUSHED IN THE CLUTCH FOR TO LONG THEN IT GOES INTO GEAR. *TR
WHLE DRIVING MY 2010 FORD FUSION, THE CAR WILL JUST STALL AND CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING WITH NO WARNING, THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, I WILL TURN OFF THE CAR, WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND IT WILL RESTART, THIS HAPPENS CONSISTANTLY SOMETIMES AS MUCH AS 4 TIMES A DAY, THIS IS DEFINITIELY A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE ONE TIME WHEN THE CAR STALLED, I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND. *TR
HAD NOTICED SEVERAL TIMES THAT THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO ACCELERATE AFTER PUSHING THE GAS. LATER THAT AFTERNOON, WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOPLIGHT, THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING AND LOST ALL POWER. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING LOT AND TURNED IT OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED, THE ENGINE SEEMED TO RUN NORMALLY BUT STILL HESITATED TO GO WHEN THE GAS WAS PRESSED. I GOT THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD - "A COMMON THING ON THESE CARS". FORD IS REFUSING TO COVER THE REPLACEMENT UNDER WARRANTY, CLAIMING THAT THIS IS NOT PART OF THE DRIVE TRAIN - THOUGH ADMITTING THAT THE CAR WILL NOT FUNCTION WITHOUT THE PART. *TR
THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR IN THAT IT WILL COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED WHETHER 15 MPH OR 70 MPH, WITH NO WARNING. THIS COULD CAUSE SERIOUS HARM ESPECIALLY TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE WHERE YOU CAN BE HIT FROM BEHIND AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE CAR WILL RESTART AFTER A FEW MINUTES, BUT WHEN DOING SO WILL CANCEL THE ENGINE SERVICE CODE P2111 SO THAT THE DEALER CANNOT ID THE PROBLEM. IF YOU EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM, MAKE THEM KEEP DRIVING IT UNTIL IT HAPPENS TO THE SERVICE PERSON. ISSUE IS DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY -POTENTIOMETER. THE COMPUTER CAN'T TELL HOW MUCH THE THROTTLE IS OPEN SO IT SHUT DOWN. MY TEENAGER WAS DRIVING THIS CAR AND WAS ALMOST RE-ENDED TWICE. VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE!!!!! *TR
VEHICLE LOST POWER, CAUSING UNEXPECTED DECELERATION. I WAS AFRAID I WOULD BE HIT FROM BEHIND AND WAS CONCERNED FOR MYSELF AND MY WIFE'S SAFETY. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED OUT OF WARRANTY. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. *TR
