"TAKATA RECALL" I HAD RECEIVED A RECALL A LONG TIME BACK. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHO TO,D ME THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AT LEAST FIVE TIMES TO INQUIRE AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY STILL HAVE NO REPLACEMENT AVAILABLE. I ASKED THEM WHAT I WAS SUPPOSE TO DO IN THE MEANTIME AND I WAS TOLD BE CAREFUL AND DO T GET IN AN ACCIDENT. I ASKED ABOUT A RENTAL IN THE MEANTIME AND WAS TOLD THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO GIVE A RENTAL AS IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED AS PART OF A WARRANTY THAT COULD NOT BE FIXED FOR SOME TIME. I AM BECOMING FRUSTRATED AND WORRY ABOUT GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT. NOT HAPPY THAT MY SAFETY IS AT RISK!
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. WHEN STEERING IS OUT ON THESE VEHICLES IS ACTUALLY ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE WHEEL. I HAVE DRIVEN OLD VEHICLES WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND THIS IS TWICE AS HARD TO STEER. THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE EPAS. APPARENTLY MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY DINED COVERAGE BECAUSE THE EPAS SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED IN 2015 AS PART OF A RECALL FOR DEFECTIVE EPAS. THE SOFTWARE UPDATE DID NOT ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING AS THE EPAS FAILED AFTER THE RECALL SOFTWARE UPDATE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESS ASAP, I GUESS FORD IS WAITING FOR FATAL ACCIDENTS TO START OCCURRING AND INCREASING BEFORE THEY DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS POWER STEERING DEFECT.
I WAS DRIVING AND I HEARD A BEEPING SOUND. I LOOKED DOWN AND IT SAID SOMETHING ABOUT POWER STEERING ADVANCE. I'M TRYING TO GET HOME, AND THEN MY WHEEL LOCK UP.
THE LUG NUTS ON THE FORD FUSION ARE KNOWN TO SWELL TO GREATER THAN THEIR ORIGINAL SIZE. WHEN THESE LUG NUTS SWELL, THE LUG NUT WRENCH WILL NO LONGER FIT, SO THEY MUST BE DRILLED OR EXTRACTED, AND HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO FRACTURE WHEN DRIVING. I HAVE REPLACED THE LUG NUTS TWICE, SO I AM ON MY THIRD SET. IF I WERE TO HAVE A FLAT TIRE, I WAS TOLD IT WOULD HAVE TO BE TOWED AS THE WRENCH WOULD NOT FIT THE LUG NUTS. "THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION AND FORD HAVE ISSUED A RECALL ALERT FOR 2010-2011 MODEL YEAR FORD FUSION AND MERCURY MILAN SEDANS. THE VEHICLES MAY HAVE FAULTY WHEEL STUDS THAT MAY FRACTURE AND POSSIBLY CAUSE THE WHEELS TO SEPARATE FROM THE CARS, INCREASING THE LIKELIHOOD OF A COLLISION." RECALL #: 11V574000 I WAS NEVER ALERTED OF THIS RECALL FROM FORD, AND I HAVE ALSO HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICED FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. I HAVE RECEIVED OTHER RECALLS VIA MAIL, AND ALSO CONTINUALLY CHECK MY VIN ON THE FORD WEBSITE. I NOW HAVE PAID FOR THIS TWICE.
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V384000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PART FOR THE RECALL REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE, THE SHIFTER WAS PLACED IN REVERSE AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
2011 FORD FUSION OWNER: POSSIBLE WELD ISSUES ON THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS CAUSING THE NOISE CONCERNS AND REQUIRE REPAIR FOR THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS FROM MANUFACTURER. IT MAY BE THE JOUNCE BUMPER RUBBING AGAINST DRY STRUT PLATE CAUSING AN ABRASION NOISE FROM THE STRUT AREA - BIG ASSUMPTION HERE. NOISE HAPPENS IN WARMER MONTHS OVER 50 DEGREES AND GETS QUIET ON COLDER DAYS. IT ALSO GET QUIETER DRIVING OVER 60 MPH. WHATEVER IT IS, THE SWOLLEN PARTS ARE EXTREMELY NOISY, EXTREMELY, AND CONCERNING. FROM RESEARCH, THIS ISSUE MAYBE HAPPENING TO 2006-2015 FORD FUSION VEHICLES. A FEW HUNDRED FUSION OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED HERE ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE: HTTPS://REPAIRPAL.COM/SQUEAKS-AND-CREAKS-OVER-BUMPS-AND-TURNING-235. IT IS COSTING HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR OWNERS TO ATTEMPT A FIX WITH NO RESULTS. I AM WRITING AS I WOULD LIKE RESULTS AFTER OWNING MY CAR 2 YEARS WITH THIS HORRIBLE CONDITION TAKING PLACE. AT FIRST I WAS HEARING A CREAKING NOISE WHENEVER I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP ON A COLD DAY TO GET IT LOOKED AT BUT THE CREAKING NOISE WENT AWAY AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEN A LAST WEEK ON A HOTTER DAY THE CREAKING NOISE CAME BACK. THE NEXT MORNING, I TURNED ON MY CAR AND TRIED TURNING THE WHEEL AND AN "ADVANCETRAC" LIGHT CAME ON. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE LIGHT WENT OUT AND I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AGAIN. I STILL HAD THE CREAKING NOISE. THEN YESTERDAY I WENT TO TURN MY CAR ON THE "POWER STEERING" LIGHT CAME ON AND AGAIN I COULDN'T TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WITHOUT A LOT OF PRESSURE. I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF, AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE FINE AGAIN. THIS HAPPEN 2 MORE TIMES WHILE DRIVING IN A 3-HOUR PERIOD WHERE THE LIGHT TURNED ON. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED MY CAR IN THE ROAD AND HAD TO TURN MY CAR OFF TO GET THE "POWER STEERING" LIGHT OFF AND GET CONTROL OF MY CAR AGAIN. THAT SAME DAY I WENT TO THE SAME REPAIR SHOP AND THEY TRIED DIAGNOSING THE ISSUE AND THIS TIME THE "POWER STEERING" AND "ADVANCETRAC" LIGHT GOT STUCK ON. THEY SAID I NEEDED TO GET MY CAR TO THE FORD DEALER IMMEDIATELY, SO I HAD TO DRIVE MY CAR DOWN THE ROAD (SAME STREET) WITH THE "POWER STEERING" AND "ADVANCETRAC" LIGHTS ON AND BLINKERS ON SINCE I HAD TO USE A LOT OF STRENGTH TO MAKE THE TURNS I DID HAVE TO MAKE TO GET IT TO THE DEALERS SERVICE CENTER. I WAS SUPER SCARED BECAUSE THE ROAD WAS NARROW AND CURVY AND I FELT LIKE I WAN'TS GOING TO BE ABLE TO MAKE THE TURN AND RUN INTO ANOTHER CAR.
ISSUE HAPPENED WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHT GOES OFF AND ON EVERY SECOND WITH BEEPS AND CHANGING MESSAGES: TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR FAULT, DOOR AJAR. VEHICLE LEFT/RIGHT TURN SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. ISSUE RESOLVED BY ITSELF AFTER 10 MINUTES DRIVING. HOWEVER RADIO SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY AFTER THIS INCIDENT. THERE IS VIDEO RECORDED BY SOMEONE ELSE SHOWING THIS ISSUE HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=0AYKJOSUDEW . DEALER DID NOT FIX ANYTHING, TELLING THAT THERE ARE NO MESSAGES IN COMPUTER.
WHEN I TURN OR GO OVER BUMPS THE CAR MAKES A LOUD SQUEEKING/GRINDING NOISE. THIS STARTED TO OCCUR AFTER MY POWER STEERING ASSIST WAS REPLACED A MONTH AGO. SEVERAL REVIEWS ALSO STATE THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE FIX. MY CAR ONLY HAS 60K MILES ON IT FOR A 2011. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!
ALL OF THIS IS WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION ON BOTH ON FREEWAYS AND CITY STREETS. FAILURE OF THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE SOLENOID; ENGINE LIGHT ON DUE TO BAD FILLER INLET NECK AND HAD TO REPLACED FILLER INLET; THE VEHICLE NEEDED THE FUEL FILLER TUBE REPLACED; EMISSIONS EVAPORATION SYSTEM ERROR CODES; "CHECK FUEL INLET" ERROR KEEPS COMING ON. I'VE HAD TO TAKE MY CAR IN FOR REPEATED CODE FAILURES RELATED TO THE FILL INLET. CANISTER HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE. FIRESTONE NOTICED SEVERAL FORD FUSIONS WITH THESE SIMILAR PROBLEMS. SAFETY CONCERNS REGARDING DISTRACTION FROM ENGINE LIGHT (STOPPED ON FREEWAY BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR), AND CHECK FUEL INLET ERRORS WERE WORRISOME. I HAD TO CLEAN THE FILLER INLET WHICH DIDN'T RESOLVE THE ISSUES. I CAN'T REMEMBER ALL THE EXACT DATES OF WHEN I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE.
TAKATA INFLATORS: WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THE DRIVER AIRBAG REPLACED FOR A YEAR SINCE LEARNING ABOUT THIS RECALL. OUR SERVICE DEPARTMENT KEEPS TELLING US THAT FORD DON'T HAVE THE PARTS FOR THE RECALL.
WOULD LOSE POWER STEERING IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. STEERING WHEEL BECOMES TOUGH TO STEER. LOOKED IT UP PSCM RECALL. HAD REPAIRED AT FORD DEALER. SAYS I'M NOT GETTING REIMBURSED BECAUSE CAR WASN'T MADE IN CERTAIN FACTORY. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED THE SAME TIMEFRAME OF THE RECALL ALSO. THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE OPENED UP TO MORE MANUFACTURING PLANTS. IT'S THE SAME PROBLEM. GET THIS. EVEN THE REPAIR THAT FORD DEALER MADE. YEAR DOWN THE LINE FAILED AGAIN. I HAVE ALL THE DOCUMENTATION. *TR
TAKATA RECALL AC/HEAT CONTINUES TO GO OUT RANDOMLY. AC/HEAT/DEFROSTER IS NOT WORKING. HAVE TO MANUALLY LOCK EACH DOOR UPON EXIT OF VEHICLE BECAUSE AUTOMATIC SWITCH NOT WORKING, THE CAR SHUTDOWN AND I CANT ENTER THE VEHICLE AT TIMES THE KEY WILL NOT OPEN MY CAR DOOR, I HAD TO ENTER MY CAR THROUGH THE TRUNK AT 3A. ENGINES PROBLEMS, ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, BACK TAIL/BRAKE LIGHT CONTINUES TO GO OUT OFTEN, AND OTHER ISSUES. SOMETIMES KEY WONT TURN IN THE IGNITION AND BRAKES LOCK UP.
DOOR HANDLES DO NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE AT ALL. THE ONLY WAY OUT IS TO ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN AND OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, OTHER FORD MODELS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE. IT IS ALL THE TIME, IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU'RE PARKED OR DRIVING THE DOORS WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL FROM THE INSIDE.
IN JULY OF 2015 RECALL NOTICE 15S18 / NHTSA RECALL 15V-340 WAS ISSUED. THIS RECALL MADE AWARE OF AN ISSUE WITH THE POWER STEERING COMPONENTS OF CERTAIN MODEL YEAR FORD FUSIONS. MY POWER STEERING BROKE IN MY 2011 FUSION IN THE SUMMER OF 2015, AND WAS REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL. LESS THAT 2 YEARS LATER NOW THE SAME TWO PARTS THAT WERE REPLACED UNDER THE PREVIOUS RECALL HAVE BROKE AGAIN. THIS TIME AROUND THERE IS NO RECALL THAT COVERS THE EXPENSES. IN BOTH INCIDENTS I WAS DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT ROAD AND MY POWER STEERING SERVICE MESSAGE POPPED UP. IN BOTH CASES I PARKED MY CAR AND TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. BOTH TIMES WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON MY POWER STEERING WAS SHUT OFF, AND WAS NO LONGER WORKING. THIS SECOND INSTANCE OF MY POWER STEERING BREAKING IS THE SAME EXACT WAY IT BROKE THE FIRST TIME. IT SEEMS AS IF THE FORD DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE POWER STEERING PARTS WITH MORE DEFECTIVE PARTS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE HE WAS INFORMED TO GO TO LOCAL DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V340000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TAKATA RECALL STILL WAITING, ON BACK ORDER AS OF 11/14/2017 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS HARSHLY, AND I HAD TO PAY FORD DEALER TO REPROGRAM IT EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A SERVICE ADVISORY FOR THIS PROBLEM.
CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND PARKED IN DRIVEWAY WHEN I REALIZED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. THE INSIDE HANDLE WAS INOPERABLE AND TO EXIT THE VEHICLE I HAD TO CLIMB ACROSS CONSOLE AND PASSENGER SEAT. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN TO FORD DEALER WHERE MECHANIC VERIFIED AFTER REMOVING INTERIOR DOOR PANEL THE DOOR HANDLE ASSEMBLY WAS CRACKED. THE REPAIR COST WITHOUT TAX WAS $209.42 WHICH INCLUDED PART #6E5Z*5422601*A @ $61.07 AND LABOR @ $139.95. WHILE WAITING FOR MY REPAIR ANOTHER CUSTOMER BOUGHT THEIR NEW FORD FUSION IN FOR THE SAME ISSUE WHICH LED ME TO QUESTION SERVICE ADVISOR AND SALES MANAGER WHO BOTH ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALL ISSUE WITH INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED (WARNING APPEARED ON DASH) AND VEHICLE WAS VERY HARD TO STEER AT LOW SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY WHEN TURNING. I ALMOST RAN INTO A CURB BECAUSE OF THIS FAILURE AND THE EFFORT REQUIRED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTING IT, THE FAULT WARNING WENT AWAY AND THE POWER STEERING WORKED. THE POWER STEERING LATER FAILED AND THE FAULT WARNING REAPPEARED. THE LOCAL DEALER CANNOT GET IT INTO SERVICE FOR A WEEK AND I AM HESITANT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT SPEED FOR FEAR OF LOSS OF POWER STEERING AGAIN. RESEARCH HAS INDICATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLE. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL NOTICE.
MY 2011 FORD FUSION SEEMED TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY AFTER A DRIVE OF ABOUT 2.5 HOURS, BEGINNING AT ABOUT 7:30 A.M., MOSTLY ON HIGHWAYS, ON SUNDAY, APRIL 9, 2017. THE DRIVE WAS FROM ARNOLD, MARYLAND TO PERKASIE, PENNSYLVANIA. THE WEATHER WAS SUNNY AND MILD. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AFTER IT HAD BEEN PARKED WITH THE IGNITION OFF FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES IN PERKASIE, PENNSYLVANIA, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VERY HARD TO TURN. I DROVE THE CAR SEVERAL MILES ON SECONDARY ROADS AND THE STEERING REMAINED EXTREMELY STIFF AT SLOW SPEEDS, BUT SOMEWHAT EASIER TO HANDLE AT HIGHER SPEEDS. I ALSO NOTICED A STEERING ASSIST FAULT MESSAGE ON THE DISPLAY. I THEN PARKED THE CAR. AFTER THE CAR WAS PARKED WITH THE IGNITION OFF FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES I RESTARTED THE CAR. AT THAT TIME THE STEERING OPERATED NORMALLY AGAIN. I DROVE BACK TO ARNOLD, MARYLAND WITHOUT FURTHER STEERING PROBLEM.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. TAKATA RECALL WE HAVE CHECKED WITH FORD DEALERS AND THE FORD MAIN WEBSITE AND ARE TOLD THERE IS NOT A REMEDY YET. WE JUST AGAIN, 3-27-17 AT 9:00 PM, CHECKED THE FORD WEBSITE, ENTERED THE VIN NUMBER AND IT SAYS REMEDY IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST A YEAR SINCE FIRST NOTIFIED. THIS HAS GOT TO BE RECTIFIED.
MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IF SOMETHING WERE TO HAPPEN WHERE I NEED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR FAST SUCH AS A FIRE OR ANYTHING I CANT DO SO. MY CAR WAS PARKED. I GOT OUT & WHEN I TRIED TO GET BACK IN I COULDN'T. I HAD TO CRAWL FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE TO UNLOCK THE DOOR, BUT IT WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE.
2011 FORD FUSION SE HAD A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WHILE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY (NOV. 2013). OUR VEHICLE RECENTLY HAD TROUBLE ACCELERATING AND SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS. WE TOOK OUR CAR TO A MECHANIC AND HE INFORMED US THAT 3 GEARS IN THE TRANSMISSION BROKE AND WE NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 55K MILES ON IT AND THIS IS THE SECOND TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WE'VE HAD!! THE MECHANIC SAID HE'S NEVER SEEN A TRANSMISSION GO THIS EARLY, BUT READING REVIEWS ONLINE OF 2011 FORD FUSIONS, IT SEEMS LIKE THIS IS MORE COMMON THAN WE'D LIKE TO THINK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. WHILE IN A PARKING LOT, THE POWER STEERING SEIZED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL OTHER TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE LIGHT CAME ON SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I STARTED MY CAR. I LOOKED IN OWNERS MANUAL WHICH STATED TO TURN OFF AND RESTART WHICH LET ME DRIVE. BUT IT STATED TO CALL DEALER. I CALLED DEALER WHICH SAID THAT IT WAS UNDER RECALL. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL. IT IS THE SAME PART THAT IS UNDER RECALL ON OTHER 2011 FUSIONS BUT NOT MINE. NOW I HAVE TO PAY $1,000 TO REPLACE THE STEERING GEAR.

MY 2011 FORD FUSION HAD A SAFETY MALFUNCTION RECENTLY WHERE THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HANDLE BECAME INOPERABLE. THE SAME PART THAT HAS MALFUNCTIONED AND KEEPING ME FROM SAFELY EXITING MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN RECALLED ON VARIOUS FORD MODELS AND HAS BEEN OVERLOOKED FOR THE ONE I OWN ALTHOUGH IT HAS THE SAME PART. ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR WILL BE ROUGHLY $100 INCLUDING LABOR AND FORD HAS REFUSED TO COVER THE COST OF REPAIR PER FORD'S CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD AND WAS GIVEN THE REFERENCE NUMBER CAS11929128. I WOULD LIKE A SOLUTION SOON AS I DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE THE FINDS FOR THE REPAIR.
THIS IS A COMPLAINT WITH FORD'S RECALL 15S18. THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON MY CAR (ONLY SOFTWARE UPDATE). WHEN THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED THERE WAS NO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES FOUND IN THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. SINCE THIS RECALL WAS PERFORMED I HAVE EXPERIENCED LOSS OF STEERING. THE STEERING LOCKS UP AND I HAVE ONLY MANUAL STEERING WHILE DRIVING. CAR WAS IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THE STEERING GEAR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THIS IS MY RESPONSIBILITY AT A COST OF AROUND $2000.00. THE RECALL CLEARLY STATES THE STEERING GEAR WOULD BE REPLACED UNDER THIS RECALL. I CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THIS AND I WAS TOLD THE RECALL HAS BEEN PERFORMED AND THE REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING GEAR WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND A RECALL WAS MANDATED BY THE NHTSA, AND FORD WILL NOT RESOLVE THIS RECALL. I WAS TOLD WITH THE AMOUNT OF MILES ON THE CAR THE RECALL DOESN'T APPLY ANYMORE. THIS SHOULD BE FORD'S RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE THE STEERING GEAR IF THEIR IS A KNOW DEFECT IN THE PART. IT SHOULD NOT MATTER THE AMOUNT OF MILES ON THE CAR. IF THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE PART IT SHOULD BE REPLACED UNDER THIS RECALL THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE TO REPAIR THE CAR DUE TO THE KNOW ISSUES REGARDLESS OF THE MILES ON THE CAR.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT RECALLS WERE VIN-SPECIFIC AND NHTSA WOULD NEED TO BE CONTACTED TO ADD VINS TO A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 74,000.

WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE (IN MOTION, TURNING THE WHEEL) AND THE CAR GAVE A WARNING SIGNAL AND THEN IT SAID POWER STEERING FAILURE. I COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THEN IT WAS OKAY. MY HUSBAND SAID THAT THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO HIM A WEEK AGO WHEN HE TURNED THE CAR ON, HE WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME. MAIN CONCERN IS RECALL REPROGRAM HAD BEEN DONE IN TIMELY MANNER. THESE RACKS SHOULD BE MANDATORY REPLACE PROBLEM WAITING TO HAPPEN.
LUG NUT AND STUD FAILURE. LEARNED OF PROBLEM AFTER A DEALER REPAIR. CAR STATIONARY AT HOME WHEN PROBLEM DISCOVERED. AFTER DEALER SAFETY RECALL REPAIR OF FRONT STEERING RACK, WHICH INCLUDED TIRE ROTATION, MEANING ALL 4 TIRES REMOVED AND RETURNED TO VEHICLE BY THE DEALER. I WAS REPLACING THE FRONT BRAKE PADS, EASY REPAIR, AND I LEARNED THE FOLLOWING: LUG NUTS WERE TIGHTENED SO TIGHT THAT THE WRENCH PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT LOOSEN THEM BY HAND. TRIED TO USE STAR WRENCH, WHICH WAS LARGER, AND STILL TOO TIGHT. DECIDED TO USE MANUFACTURER WRENCH FROM TRUNK WITH A 5 FOOT PIECE OF EMT THIN WALL TUBING TO ADD TORQUE, HAD TO TAP LUG WRENCH ONTO ONE BOLT DUE TO SWELLING OF OUTER BOLT COVERING (CORROSION BETWEEN BOLT AND DECORATIVE COVERING). LEARNED DEALER HAD STRIPPED ONE BOLT ON DRIVER FRONT WHEEL. AFTER REPLACING PADS ON DRIVERS SIDE, STARTED REPAIR ON PASSENGER SIDE. 2 STUDS BROKE OFF WHILE REMOVING. USING A HAND WRENCH THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED IN 45 YEARS OF REPAIRING CARS. I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD CONSIDER REPLACING ALL LUG NUTS AND STUDS ON THEIR VEHICLES AS THIS "DEFECT" COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. LUG NUTS SHOULD NOT SWELL NOR SHOULD THEY BE REPEATEDLY OVER TIGHTENED DURING THE TIRE ROTATION PROCESS USED BY ALL FORD DEALERS IN THEIR (ROUGHLY) $30.00 SERVICE PACKAGE THAT INCLUDES OIL CHANGE, BRAKE INSPECTION, AND TIRE ROTATION. THIS PACKAGE HAS RESULTED IN MY TIRES BEING ROTATED AND RETIGHTENED SEVERAL TIMES, MEANING EACH TIME OF OVER TIGHTENING FURTHER WEAKENS THE STRENGTH OF THE LUG STUD. NOT SURE IF THE STUD IS DEFECTIVE OR THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY PRACTICE OF OVER TIGHTENING LUG NUTS IS THE CAUSE OF THESE BOLTS BEING WEAK ENOUGH THAT THEY SNAPPED WITH HAND REMOVAL. THANK YOU.
