I received a "shift sys fault" error after I shifted into the reverse gear and reversed into a parking spot at my apartment complex. My car would not shift into any other gear after that. Luckily, I wasn't making a three point turn on a street or getting out of a shopping mall parking lot. This seems to be a known issue with Ford's switch cables and bushing, and a recall was already issued, but not for the model year 2019. The recall needs to be expanded to include 2019 and 2020 Ford Fusion.
I only have 109,000 miles and I am needing a new engine. They are telling me that the cylinder wall is cracked and something about a blockage. I cannot afford to replace it. They are telling me it’s a known issue with ford but there’s no recall and that’s why they discontinued the ford fusion.

Coolant leaked in cylinder wall
Coolant intrusion into cylinder bore. Which can cause a fire. I been submitting complaints and haven’t heard anything back in regards to my complaint. This was a known issue with ford back then.
Coolant leaked into short block
Coolant leaking into cylinder 3. Took to dealership, apparently there’s a flaw in the engine design. Included all ford fusions apparently. How is this not a recall? When it’s clearly Fords fault for this, not the consumers.

My car started running weird, it would shake when at idle. It did this for about a week before the check engine light came on. I took my car to a mechanic and they determined the head gasket was bad. I took my car to a ford dealership for confirmation of the problem. They confirmed I had a bad head gasket. My safety is put at risk because this can cause engine failure. If my engine failed in the middle of the highway that would be extremely dangerous.

For the third time in two years my trunk opened while I was driving. Today, it opened while I had lumber in the trunk. Had I been on the freeway this could have caused a serious accident. I confirmed that the button on the dash was not being pushed and the emergency release in the trunk was not pulled either. This seems to be a somewhat common issue with Ford Fusions based on online commentary. Please look into this before it leads to serious injuries or worse. Thank you for your help.

Ford recalled the car due to potential fire risk while driving. They are unable to repair the car and have no estimate on when the repairs will be made. Due to potential of fire while driving this car I will not drive this car and imperil my children. Ford has offered no loaner, buyback or similar offer. I am also unable to pass the NYS inspection as a result of the illuminated check engine light (from the recall).
Radiator fluid leaking into cylinder 3, causing misfire. Has been a persistent and common issue with the 2.0L Ecoboost engines.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact's friend used an ODB code reader and determined that there was a misfire in cylinder #3. The ignition coils were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts being on backorder. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
I was notified in July of 2023 of a recall on the battery energy recall module for this vehicle. I purchased this vehicle to charge and have a gas backup. As a result of reading reports of the potential fire due to charging the vehicle and the notice to not charge the vehicle for safety reasons, I have not been able to use the battery and fuel efficiency part of this vehicle. Again, this is the reason for purchasing the vehicle and paying more for the car. I have contacted Ford and there is no fix in the near future. I am only told to continue to use the vehicle in gas mode. This is not an acceptable response and remedy for their issue. The vehicle value has now drastically reduced as no one wants to purchase a hybrid they cannot charge.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Fusion. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V440000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
remedy not yet available ON YOUR VEHICLE, THE BATTERY ENERGY CONTROL MODULE BECM MAY BECOME DAMAGED AS A RESULT OF EXCESS VOLTAGE AND CURRENT FLOW. Safety Risk EXCESS VOLTAGE AND CURRENT FLOW THROUGH THE BECM CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER WHICH INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH, OR A VEHICLE FIRE IN THE TRUNK AREA Iam not able to charge my vehicle since July 2023 recall notice. I now have to purchase an extra $140 month in gas because I cannot use my charging system on the vehicle. I contacted FORD 1/20/24 1.800.392.3673 spoke to customer recall service and they stated there is not date on a remedy. I requested compensation and requested them to open a case number for me to escalate a supervisor to speak to me and they stated there is nothing they can do.
Battery became inoperable due to the BECM voltage issue and can not be driven. It is sitting at Hall Ford in Newport News, VA. 3 calls to Ford have resulted in no action, and I have a 4 year old vehicle I can't use because of this safety recall.

Recall Reference Number: 23S33 The safety of you and your passengers is key to every vehicle we build. Some Ford Fusion Energi Plug-in Hybrid models may not start or may display a "Stop Safely Now" message while driving, followed by a loss of power within a few seconds. There is no resoltuion
I got a notice of recall 10 months ago for this vehicle and there is no fix or updated communication on whether the Battery Energy Control Module for this vehicle can be modified to be made safe and I have told to stop charging the car which defeats the purpose why I purchased it in the first place. Wanted to make a formal complaint against Ford Motor Corporation for their lack of action and communication on when this problem is to be solved.
See attached document for complaint
I received a recall notice in June 2023 from Ford announcing a recall for my 2019 Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid. The notice stated that there is a chance of fire from the high voltage battery and BCM (battery control module). Ford stated a fix will be issued. This was over 1 year ago. The interim remedy from Ford is asking all 2019-2020 owners to stop charging their vehicles until a fix is issued. This disables a large portion of the car's functionality, performance and efficiency. As Fusion Energi owners, we paid a hefty premium for a PHEV, and instead we have a very inefficient and poor performing standard hybrid. Ford has not communicated any updates in the past 8 months, and when I call dealers there is no indication of when a fix will be made available. I'm ready to give up. If you are looking to purchase a used 2019-2020 Fusion Energi, I suggest you wait until there is a resolution for this issue.
Manufacturer Recall Number 23S33 NHTSA Recall Number 23V-440 Ford denied my buyback claim due to the vehicle being pre-owned, but with the open recall, I believe this vehicle to be a significant safety risk. My vehicle has limited functionality and reduced fuel economy in a model for which I specifically paid extra money. There is no fix in sight until the end of 2024 at the earliest, and there are other accounts of people's vehicles leaving them stranded or catching on fire! Ford does not have a fix for this vehicle, and a fix will not be available within a reasonable timeframe.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the engine overheated message was displayed. The contact stated that he decelerated to 45 MPH and continued driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that cylinder #2 and #3 had cracked, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the VIN was not included in Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N12 (Short Block Replacement After Coolant Intrusion). The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
Ford sent a safety recall notice 23S33 and poorly worded the "What should you do?" section. After calling for clarifications, Ford advised us not to fully charge the high voltage battery. There is no method to limit the charge level and not charging the batteries will damage them. Ford advised the only way to limit the battery charge level is to watch/monitor the vehicle as it charges, and disconnect the power cable prior to fully charging. Ford should provide one of two options without delay: The Ford app should be updated, providing users with the ability to limit the high voltage battery charge level or; Ford should provide its dealer service departments with instructions to program a lower maximum charge limit for the high voltage battery that is consistent with the recommendations from the Safety Recall. While Ford is working on a long-term remedy, and in light of the potential for fire, Ford should take immediate steps to assist its customers with temporary and reasonable options to limit the high voltage battery charge level.
Recall issued 6/23 23S33- Over 7 months and Ford has NOT corrected this serious problem, nor is there anything in the updates to lead one to believe they have an interest in doing so. I have spent hours trying to coerce this company to do something, but to no avail!! How much longer will YOU allow them to get away with this!!! A serious fire, or collision may result!! Must someone DIE in order for you to take action!!
Overheating and coolant leaking Into cylinder block causing misfire in engine. Could cause stalls and potentially a fire from overheating. Known issue from Ford they are only offering to repair up to a certain. Mileage

An undisclosed dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The contact talked to Ford who indicated they would have a fix by the end of 2024, but states shouldn't have to pay taxes on a car that can not be used that way.
The current unresolved recall has impacted me numbered 23S33. This issue has impacted me since June 16 2023 and I have received minimal compensation. Due to rising gas prices in California, my inability to charge my car for my typical usage which was covered by the battery, and the higher purchase price I paid for this car, this recall has significantly impacted me.
Ford has failed to find a solution in a reasonable time frame. Car was purchased to be used as a hybrid and we are no longer able to use the battery due to recall for now 8 months. Our car value is also now upside down over $6,000 as this function is no longer available. In addition to 8 months of fuel charges we did not anticipate.
Unable to charge the plug in hybrid vehicle due to Ford recall 23S33 which was announced June 16,2023. Ford advised owner not to charge the vehicles until a remedy is available. No remedy for this issue is available 9 months later, leaving consumer to use gasoline only to power this plug in hybrid vehicle due to risk of excess voltage and current flow through the battery energy control module which can result in loss of motive power while driving, increasing risk of a crash, or a vehicle fire in the trunk area increasing risk of injury. Ford negligently installed 9 kWh hybrid batteries in the 2019-2020 model vs a 7.6 kWh battery in the 2013-2018 Fusion energi models which likely caused the issue, yet has left the consumer with a vehicle that has lost it’s worth in addition to having to pay for gasoline to power the vehicle. In addition, Ford installed 3 g modem’s leaving consumers unable to use the Ford pass app as well. Ford buy back offer does not reflect depreciation of the vehicle due to this recall, further leaving consumers to pay for the issue Ford created.
I believe the manufacturer has failed to resolve the safety recall in a timely manner. The recall notice was sent on July 2023 and they still don’t have a fix or information on the recall. The The sole purpose of me purchasing this vehicle was to save money on gasoline and the manufacturer states to not charge my vehicle. I’ve called three times since the recall and the Ford representative over in corporate headquarters cannot give me an answer. Know that although the vehicle is under my spouse’s name [XXX] ), i’m the one driving it and making the payments. What are my options? Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
This is my 2nd complaint on the non action to repair this recall. Ford's latest attempt to NOT repair the electrical defect is to buy my car. Their offer does meet the cost of buying a replacement car. Is Ford so inept that they cannot repair their own products? The offer to buy the car sends a red flag up. Is Ford's "solution" to buy my car an attempt to acquire cars to resell at a profit? If Ford cannot repair a defect that was diagnosed a long time ago, should they be allowed to continue to manufacture and sell cars in the United States? Has Ford been sanctioned in any way for this defect?
re. recall 23V-440 Issued June 2023 as of March 2025 (one year and 9 months later), on remedy. they now claim one will be available 3Q25, but they also estimated a fix 3Q24. this is an UNACCEPTABLE amount of time to not have a fix and have a formal recommendation not to charge the vehicle.
This is an unresolved safety-related recall that Ford has not scheduled for repair. The recall notice was published in mid-2023. Car does not perform as advertised as plug-in charging is advised as a potential fire and driving hazard. Repeated contacts with FORD have not resulted in addressing the failure of parts involved. The inability to charge the battery results in increased operating costs.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Fusion. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V440000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available for the recall repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
