NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2023 Ford Maverick. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
CV axles are covered under the Ford Powertrain Warranty. I am experiencing a driveline vibration consistent with axle failure. I would like a warranty diagnosis and documentation explaining why this is not considered a warrantable defect. Dealerships are refusing to evaluate a powertrain warranty issue involving driveline vibration consistent with axle failure. The vehicle exhibits driveline vibration under normal operation. That is not normal function and indicates a defect under warranty terms. Powertrain issues with axles present a safety concern. I see Ford has superseded the original NZ6Z axle part numbers to SZ6Z and now PZ6Z revisions. That indicates a known issue with earlier components. My vehicle is exhibiting the exact failure symptoms—this should be evaluated under powertrain warranty.
CV axle fails prematurely, causing vehicle shaking under acceleration, and potentially unsettling vehicle stability at speed. First noticed the shaking at 49K miles. I have not had an opportunity to schedule an appointment with the dealer to have it replaced yet. This is a known issue on these vehicles that Ford has not acknowledged, with many drivers reporting they need the CV axles replaced ever 30k miles or so.
The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake lights and turn signals failed to function as intended. In addition, the message “Brake Light Failure” was displayed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The dealer was made aware of the failure, and the contact was informed that the parts were not available to repair the vehicle. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V104000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting); however, parts were unavailable for the recall repair. The contact's husband purchased and replaced the light bulbs lights. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was informed that there was no assistance available. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
The vehicle was at the dealer for a loud noise on the hinge area of the driver side door. I was contacted by the dealer and told That the door has cracked spot welds and needs to be replaced. The dealer contacted Ford and for opening offered to pay for a portion of the repair leaving me with over $1000 dollars out of pocket. This is a common problem with this vehicle and the Ford escape see Ford TSB 2356B. The vehicle is still under warranty but this is a defective item and should be covered 100% by Ford.
Vehicle "shakes and vibrates" when accelerating along with odd clicking noises when turning. The sunroof also leaks during car washes.
Battery is constantly in battery saving mode. It use to do it only when I was on vacation for a week or so. Now it has been doing this every single day for about the last two month.
Battery goes into deep sleep truck will not crank this the 3rd time for this truck.
The throttle body component of the vehicle failed at approximately 40,000 miles. While this is an engine component that experiences normal wear and tear, throttle body valves fail anywhere between 75,000 and 100,000 miles. I have owned previous vehicles, each crossing the 100,000-mile mark, with no replacement or concern with the throttle body. My concern with this vehicle's throttle body relates to the outdoor weather conditions when the vehicle reported an issue. The outside air temperature was 3 degrees Fahrenheit with moderate winds and a wind chill of approximately -10 degrees Fahrenheit. Researching online, this appears to be a recurrent issue among other owners of this particular vehicle. When started, the vehicle appeared to misfire, potentially entering limp mode. An amber wrench light illuminated, indicating to have the vehicle serviced, and the engine light illuminated, indicating a problem with the emissions system. Additionally, the vehicle pushed a notification to my smartphone that stated the following: "The engine control system has detected the electronic throttle body is not responding as commanded and requires service." The vehicle was turned off and sat for 15 minutes. When the vehicle was restarted, the wrench light turned off, but the engine light remained on, not flashing. The vehicle operated normally, with no misfire. The failure of the throttle body in adversely cold conditions may cause the engine to stall or misfire, decreasing driver control and increasing the potential of a crash. It is of concern that this component seems to have failed early compared to other vehicles currently on the market. I believe the weather to be a contributing factor. The servicing dealership has confirmed that the throttle body must be replaced and has the appropriate part on back order. As this vehicle was not involved in an accident, no police reports or insurance claims have been filed. I plan on reaching out to the manufacturer to address these concerns.
"2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid (VIN: [XXX] ). The vehicle has a chronic 12V parasitic drain defect. Authorized dealer Champaign Ford City provided false information, stating software was current when it was not. This led to a 100% discharge in freezing temperatures, requiring multiple jump-starts to reach the dealer. This discharge destroyed a high-quality owner-purchased AGM battery. Despite Safety Recall 25S02 mandating no-cost battery replacements for these vehicles, the dealer charged me for a Ford battery. Safety concern: Vehicle unreliability in sub-zero temperatures and dealer failure to adhere to federal recall reimbursement guidelines." I had a problem once with the interface module, and since it was still under warranty, the Ford dealership in Fairfield, California replaced it and at 3:32 AM today January 3, 2026. The interface module turned off for a couple seconds and then turned back on which was basically the same problem as it was when I complained and had them replace it.
I believe the OEM 12v battery that is used in the Ford Maverick hybrid is underpowered and has issues that seem to plague the vehicle. I’ve owned the truck for almost two years now and started getting “battery saver” alerts when the truck would sit for a few days over the week or during a vacation. But recently I’ve been getting the warning far more frequently and not even siting for more than 24 hours. Last month I had a warning that the power could turn off at any moment and need to pull over immediately. The warning went away after powering the vehicle down and turning back on. Last weekend the car was completely dead after using it all week and only letting it sit Saturday evening to Monday morning. The battery seems to be an issue that plagues the vehicle and I think an investigation needs to be conducted to have this corrected. I even see new 2025 models having similar issues.
Vehicle started to have a shake under acceleration. Reported it to multiple dealerships and requested them to specifically observe the CV axles. Finally secured an appointment on 11-24-2025 while vehicle was under factory warranty. Tenvoorde Ford informed me (the owner) that the CV axles were “fine” and a non issue. Shake was still present. Kept driving the vehicle and now, five months later with no factory warranty left on the vehicle, shake still present, and received a second opinion today. CV axle needs replacement. ~68,000 miles on the odometer. I exclusively commute on interstate 94 in central Minnesota, hardly drive in cities. There is no justifiable reason when the vehicle was at the dealership that the CV axle went from being just fine to needing replacement. This is a very common concern with these Ford Mavericks and Ford needs to conduct a recall before people get injured on the public roadways.
Vehicle drivers front door is very hard to operate, very hard to shut, window wont roll all the way down. Vehicle makes popping noise when operating drivers front door. Door wont close all the way at times due to door check binding inside of door. Ford has had a customer satisfaction service repair for Escape model vehicles with similar problems. Ford reference for this action is 23B56. Due to the door not being able to close properly this vehicle will require repair and the vehicle taken out of service because it is not safe to drive with the door not latching properly. The spot welds are broken away from the door causing the door check and mounting bracket to be pushed into the door when closing, this causes the door to not be properly latched.
The seat belt system is faulted and is showing the airbag light is on, when started it shows a red question mark on the drivers seat. Also shows a rear seat fault.
I took my vehicle in to have the transmission looked at. The dealership told me that the problem was resolved. While driving down the road the transmission went into park in the middle of a two lane road. When the vehicle came to a complete stop I was stopped in the middle of the lane and the vehicle transmission would not shift out of park. After getting it to another shop where it is currently located I was informed that the transmission needs to be replaced and that this is a problem that they are seeing in several Ford vehicles. I contacted Ford who stated that there are no current recalls for this problem. Obvious safety concerns are not being able to control the vehicle when it shifts to park while driving as well as being stopped in the middle of the roadway where a collision is likely.
CV axle
Drivers door became hard to open and close. Found driver front door stop damaged / welds broken and separated from door interior.
I have previously had the backup camera recall repaired/updated the software and it worked fine for awhile. This week I had it freeze up on me and almost cause me to back end to another vehicle
CV axles failed at 30,000 miles, repaired under warranty. Replaced axles have failed again at 60,000 miles, no warranty. No hard driving, simply highway miles. This seems to be common in these vehicles and need to be recalled for defective parts. This has caused me poor fuel mileage, damage to new tires, instability while driving, and possible unknown damage to transaxle.
I purchased the 2023 ford maverick xlt with about 12,000 miles in may, right from the start I started having problems with the steering freezing up, almost hit a wall exiting the freeway, a few times it happened close to my house, it happens without warning, the warning "steering assist fault service required"comes up on dashboard , I have gone to the dealer a few times, the first time they said they had taken care of it, but I drove the truck after and later the steering froze up again, I took it in again and they said it was the steering column, it had a internal fault, so I left the vehicle there and next day they called me that the vehicle was ready, so I drove it home which is about eight miles from the dealer, no sooner had I was about to turn in the driveway that the steering froze on me, I borrowed my wife's car and went to the dealer told them what happened and the manager said to take it in again so they could check it , but I told the manager that I couldn't because iam afraid to drive the truck for my safety and other innocent people, so my truck sits in my driveway unable to drive it.
While driving on the highway at normal speed in normal conditions, I suddenly lost ABS, traction control, downhill assist, hold assist, AdvanceTrac, Cruise control, and a severe reduction of power. The engine went into limp mode and would not rev past 3k RPM. This made driving on the highway very dangerous as I could not keep up speed and risked getting rear-ended. The wrench icon came on, as well as ABS and traction control. Cruise control would not work. Messages appeared stating "Service engine soon", "Service AdvanceTrac", "Downhill assist issue", "Hold assist issue", and a few more I can't recall. Sometimes they go away on its own and the vehicle works fine, sometimes restarting the vehicle clears the issue. The issues will appear randomly, sometimes very soon after starting the car and driving, sometimes 100 miles later.
I Was backing into my designated parking spot in front of our store and a estranged driver cut me off and parked in two parking spots including the designated parking spot in front of the store and a handicapped parking spot next to the designated parking spot causing me to back into another car illegally parked in a third handicap in front of the store. The passenger side view mirror was clipped and the glass cracked on the passenger side door.
The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and upon attempting to make a left turn, the steering wheel seized with the “Power Steering Assist Fault” message displayed. The contact was able to pull over on the side of the road. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the steering column was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the failure had also occurred while driving 20 MPH and making a left turn. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed again, and the contact was informed that the steering column was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 13,600.
The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and attempting to depress the brake pedal, the brakes made a loud screeching sound and the vehicle surged forward before coming to a complete stop. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the passenger’s side axle was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, however the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
I bought a pre-owned "Gold Certified" 2023 Ford Maverick from a Ford dealer. The vehicle had around 32,000 or so miles at purchase. Soon after purchase, discovered that while accelerating from around 50-60 mph, the front end of the vehicle started heavily shaking without warning. The vehicle was taken to the Ford dealer who informed us that both front axles needed to be replaced. They informed us that they have seen this issue with other Ford Mavericks. The repairs were covered under warranty, and nobody was injured. This is an unsettling, since I have seen on this website numerous complaints about this same issue. Yet there has not been a TSB or recall to my knowledge.
12 volt battery does not recharge properly. Vehicle is always in deep sleep mode.
Since new in Sept 2023 this vehicle has suffered from consistent charging problems with the 12 volt battery, it sends "deep sleep" warnings to the Ford App and disables certain safety features. Charging the battery only restores functionality temporarily, driving the car ends up depleting the 12 volt battery over time. It affects all Ford Maverick Hybrids including mine.
Bad CV axles causing vibration while accelerating.
The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V684000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. The VIN was not available. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Front Left CV Axle replaced at 5000 miles. Same CV axle needs to replaced now at 10287 miles.
I recently reported my Ford maverick for the failure of the front right CV joint/axle at 22k miles. Well when I picked it up from Ford. They notified me that the front left is also bad. And I'm at 23k miles. These are clearly an issue that's happening everywhere.
The cv joint axles are failing. No axles on a new car or truck should EVER fail under 100k miles. Ford maverick axles are failing at under 50k miles. And mine failed at 22k miles. And Ford will only replace 1 at a time. Not only is this a manufacturer defect that can cause accidents or injury but Ford needs to yet again be held accountable. No one pays good money for a factory faulty vehicle.
My backup camera freezes while in reverse, which makes it difficult to gauge my surroundings accurately and has almost caused an accident a number of times now.
I was driving normally at speed. The truck suddenly lost power. The gas pedal was unresponsive. It took a moment to realize what had happened since the truck showed no indication of an issue. No warnings showed on the dash, the radio was playing as normal. Pressing the gas pedal did nothing. Brakes worked. I was on a road where was I luckily was able to coast into a parking lot and stop safely. I shut off the vehicle and immediately turned it back on. Everything started normally and the vehicle drove normally from that point.
When having the vehicle in reverse, the rear-camera’s image oftentimes freezes for several moments which causes unreal expectations of what is actually in the rear and how close objects actually are. This has caused fear to my wife, and she prefers not to drive the vehicle in part due to this unresolved issue.
This morning while driving to work, I lost acceleration power. I was driving to work at the speed limit of 65 mph. The car started to slow down and I could not get any acceleration when stepping on the gas pedal. I was very lucky that traffic was light and able to coast over to a shoulder of the highway. I called roadside assistance and had it towed to local dealer. Awaiting to hear what the problem is. Feel very uncomfortable at this point.
Both the Blind Spot and Cross Traffic warning systems work erratically or not at all. Even after software update and reset. Cross traffic will sense a small car then ignore the bus next? Same with Blind Spot very inconsistent or not functional! Dealer is less than helpful. Any trip to the dealer means leaving your vehicle with them all day so they can put off working on it until the last minute.
The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while reversing, the back-over camera screen froze. The contact heard someone yelling and became aware there was a parent and child walking behind the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V684000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 31,595. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The 12 volt battery keeps dying something keeps draining the battery down I've ha this vehicle to the dealership several times and I'am still having problems
The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that upon attempting to unlock the vehicle using the Ford Mobile App, the message that the remote function was not available because the battery was in Sleep Mode was displayed. The contact stated that days later, the vehicle was difficult to start and had to be jumpstarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times. The dealer performed an unknown reprogramming on one occasion, and the dealer replaced the battery on another occasion; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V019000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

First time i noticed an issue was [XXX] felt vibration and took to Freeport Ford, Freeport, IL 61030. They took for a test drive and noticed nothing. I returned to Freeport Ford on 01/30/25 for the same issue, violent shaking when accelerating worse on an incline..They told me it was tires and that the 2 fronts had to be replaced 4/32 tread at this point they placed the 2 good rear tires on the front which didn't change a thing, I ordered 2 new tires, and on 01/31/25 took to a Chevrolet dealer in Freeport (friend of mine), they diagnosed that i had 2 faulty CV axles, i let Freeport Ford know of this diagnosis. New tires were installed 02/04/25 on the rear, still didn't change a thing, i told them I had checked the Maverick Forums and found out several complaints about faulty CV axles prematurely failing, at this point they stated they have ordered me a new set of axles, and let me drive out of the dealership on those faulty axles..Now playing the waiting game to see if axles come in first or if a catastrophic axles failure occurs first. Definitely not happy with Ford at this point and believe this needs to be a recall at this time due to all the complaints. Thank you, [XXX] 02/04/25 4:35p.m. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owned a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, another vehicle driving at approximately 20 MPH crashed into the front passenger side. The vehicle came to a stop at a ditch after the crash. There were no warning lights illuminated. The driver’s and passenger’s side air bags did not deploy. There was no property damage. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a rotator cuff tear and a pinched nerve. It is unknown if the other three people in the other vehicle sustained any injuries. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was deemed a total loss by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 37,000.
The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while reversing, the back over prevention camera display failed to function as intended. The contact stated that the back over prevention camera display screen had frozen. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the contact was advised that a diagnostic test fee was required. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V684000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 14,939. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The truck shutter when accelerating. The truck currently has 39,000 miles. It seems like it’s a suspension problem.
Vehicle continuously goes into battery saver mode. The battery appears to be undersized for the electrical needs. This could leave the driver stranded and disables all interior lighting,, locks and windows which poses a safety hazard.
Possibly software. Vehicle door latch will not release on any of 4 doors. Tried fob and manual key. I am locked out of vehicle. A serious safety issue would arise if I were locked in the vehicle, especially in an accident.
The CV axles have failed and cause my truck to shaking when accelerating.
Hybrid Ford Maverick electrical system began to go into a save battery mode -no interior lights, only driver side door operated, and other system failures. Dealer replaced battery under warranty and general recall for this issue. A few months later same characteristics started showing up -interior lights not working, only driver's side door operational, etc. This time the warranty had expired and the dealer, along with Ford Motor, told me any repairs would be at my expense, 100%. I feel problem was never resolved, even with replacement battery. Ford and dealer should address this problem. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this battery and electrical issue. After all, there was a full recall for the battery failure. Having no interior lights, unable to enter except driver's side, and other manifestations are inherently unsafe.
The 12v battery keeps draining when the vehicle is not in use. It goes into “Deep Sleep” mode. Every time it goes into deep sleep mode I have to jump start it. I’ve taken it to the dealership and had the battery replaced just to have to go into deep sleep mode a three days later.j
