Having issues with my Back up Camera. Many times I can back almost all the way out of a spot before the camera comes on. Saturday night my screen froze while driving with maps on the screen, and the reverse camera did not work at all for 6 hours of driving until I let the truck sit until morning. Shutting it off for 10 minutes did not reset the system. The Backup camera was completely disabled. Other times there is a 5-10 second delay in it turning on. I am often times done backing up before the screen on the dash shows the camera view.
[XXX]: Driving to work on the highway during rush hour. My vehicle started slowing down and wouldn't go out of neutral. The instrument panel lit up and the display panel brought up collision ahead. A lot of other codes and things popped up as well. I avoided being hit by a semi truck and was able to pull over to the shoulder. I turned my vehicle off and on. The vehicle went into drive and i to got it off the highway. It was in limp mode after that. I tried turning the vehicle off and on several times, and to no prevail. I called a tow truck to have them take it to the dealership. Keep in mind that this happened so fast and I was more worried about getting out of the way to avoid a collision. To hear that this is a recall is ridiculous. I drive with kids in the backseat, and I will never feel comfortable driving this vehicle again! I waited 9 months to get the maverick and I've had nothing but issues. Under 5k miles, I had a code pop up saying they detected air in the engine compartment. I was on the road trip to Canada at the time. I spent my vacation worrying if I was going to make it home. Luckily I did and it needed an "update". 2 other times, my left blinker failed. When it failed, my hazard lights would go off. Zumbrota ford "fixed" it the first time. Only for it to happen a month later. Zumbrota ford said they didn't know what the issue was, but they "fixed it". Now I had this even occur where the vehicle would go into neutral and limp mode. I'm not taking anymore chances, risking my life, driving this ford maverick. I've wasted so much time dealing with issue after issue and have missed several days of work. I just want a SAFE functioning vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I believe this incident occurred on June 25th (though it might have been the 24th or 26th). I left work shortly after 5:00 pm and was driving around a roundabout. I was going slowly, lightly tapping the gas pedal to maintain a speed between 10-15 mph. During one of these light taps, my truck gave an audible alert and the brakes engaged suddenly for a split second. I immediately took my foot off the gas pedal. The alert and chime stopped, and I continued driving normally. I'm fairly sure some kind of alert appeared on the instrument panel cluster, but it happened and disappeared so quickly that I couldn't see anything clearly. It all happened in the blink of an eye. The brakes engaged and released so rapidly that I tried to recreate the event using the brake pedal to ensure my foot wasn't on it by mistake. However, the brakes did not engage as quickly or abruptly during my attempts. I am certain my foot was on the gas pedal, not the brake. The gas pedal has a lighter, bouncy feel, while the brake pedal requires more pressure. And I remember a light touch causing this issue. When this incident occurred, I am confident that the light taps on the gas pedal to maintain a low speed triggered the issue. I drove home without any further problems, and this has not happened since. I also want to mention that my truck had previously gone into limp mode suddenly, but I had that recall issue fixed shortly afterward.
I was driving at 60-70 MPH on the highway and lost gas power. The electrical power in the hybrid motor continued working, but I was unable to accelerate or maintain full speed. IMPORTANT: I had this very thing repaired in accordance with a previous recall and an identical issue in January, approximately five months ago. I am reporting in case an additional recall and new software patch is needed.
The CV drive shift on either the driver side or passenger side of tbe hybrid model is going bad prematurely, currently at 20,000 miles but multiple other Maverick Hybrid owners have experienced the same issues and this is a safety risk as it could break while driving and cause an accident. It has not happened to me yet, as I'm not driving it until it can get fixed by the dealership but it's a concern I think ford needs to address, especially because most dealerships don't have vehicle loaners that customers can use unless they are willing to wait an extended period of time and their only option may be is continue to drive the unsafe vehicle or rent a car if they don't have a second vehicle.
5th INCIDENT: On 06/09/2024, at approximately 5:25pm, I was pulling up to a stop sign after just leaving my home. Traveling about 10mph I began applying the brakes and vehicle suddenly lurched to a complete stop and shifted itself into park. Various warning prompts, chimes and cluster lights came on (see attached photos). Vehicle then accelerated all on its own without any pressure on the gas pedal. This is the 3rd such incident in nine (9) days. 1st time: 04/16/24, Complaint #11583215 2nd time: 05/26/24, Complaint #11590922 3rd time: 06/01/24, Complaint #11592069 4th time: 06/07/24, Complaint #11593195 5th time: 06/09/24, Current complaint.
FOURTH INCIDENT: On [XXX] 2024, at approximately [XXX], I was traveling about 40-mph and slowing for a stop light. Just before coming to a complete stop, at about 5-mph this vehicle suddenly shifted into park on its own. At the same time numerous & various warning prompts appeared on the screen and ALL the warning signs on the instrument cluster became illuminated. As with the three (3) previous incidents, after shifting into drive and taking my foot off the brake the vehicle accelerated all on its own without my placing foot on gas pedal. Unlike previous times, additional warning prompts came up on the screen, e.g. "Hill Assist Parking Unavailable" and "Auto Hold System Fault". Also, after parking, turning vehicle off, locking doors and waiting 30+ minutes, the vehicle did not reset itself like before. Previously after sitting and not running when started it operated properly but with just the engine light on. On May 26, 2024, I had a scheduled recall for the brake lights. I asked my dealer (AutoNation Ford, Frisco (Texas)) to look at video I had taken and a possible fix under Recall 24S33, which I had found on the internet. The dealer service rep refused to look at anything and received to service this particular complaint. Instead, they sent me back onto the highway with a vehicle that can suddenly lose power and accelerate on its own, thereby creating a risk of a crash and injury or death to others or myself. 1st time [XXX], Complaint #11583215 2nd time [XXX], Complaint #11590922 3rd time [XXX], Complaint #11592069 4th, or current incident [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Vehicle looses power while driving. Vehicle bogs down and won’t accelerate. Wrench warning light comes on. Exact description of recall release with NHTSA campaign number: 24V267. Ford’s number for this recall is 24S24.
Without warning the truck will stop itself and the parking brake will engage. The service engine light will come one along with the service power train malfunction lights and the pre collision assist not available light. When the truck has been put back into gear it will accelerate on its own but only up to 35 MPH no matter how much gas is applied. This is the second time this has happened both were identical. After sitting overnight with the truck off the issue goes away temporarily but will come back with no warning. Vehicle may be inspected. Ford has already looked at the issue once and is scheduled to look at it again. If this had happened while on the highway, I could have been in a serious wreck that could have been fatal.
THIRD REPORT SAME PROBLEM: See NHTSA tracking Number 11583215 & Complaint Number 11590922: On [XXX], I was driving 2-4 mph through an apartment complex drive when vehicle came to a sudden and complete stop and switched into park all on its own. Numerous & various instrument cluster warning lights and prompts were going off. After putting back into drive very little power but would accelerate all on its own up to 35-40mph. I had previously taken this vehicle on [XXX], to the dealer (AutoNation Ford, Frisco, Texas) and they kept vehicle four (4) days. Upon return they told me diagnostics showed no alerts on vehicle, thus no problems. So, nothing was done. A second such incident happened on [XXX]. The next day I again took this vehicle to AutoNation to have the previously scheduled brake light Recall fix. At same time asked them to again look at the vehicle for issues in this complaint. I also offered to show them video of the self-acceleration, warning lights & prompts and a possible Recall #24S33 (powertrain control module) for this issue. Autonation rep said I was there only for scheduled recall and refused to look at videos or other information. Vehicle WAS NOT examined. On [XXX], I was driving 2-4 mph through an apartment complex drive when vehicle came to a sudden and complete stop and switched into park all on its own. Numerous & various instrument cluster warning lights and prompts were going off. After putting back into drive very little power but would accelerate all on its own up to 35-40mph. This vehicle has had four (4) recalls, and now three (3) separate incidents as described above. I believe it is a hazard and the issue complained of now and previously, are of such magnitude that they pose a significant risk of accident potentially causing injury or death to others or myself. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
SECOND REPORT SAME PROBLEM: See NHTSA tracking Number 11583215, 04/16/2024. Took to dealer (Autonation Ford, Frisco, Texas) and they kept vehicle four (4) days. Upon return they told me diagnostics showed no alerts on vehicle, thus no problems. So, nothing was done. 05/26/2024 approx. 8:05pm, traveling 50-mph had sudden loss of power and speed. Warning lights and prompts appeared on cluster. Vehicle slowed immediately to 35-40mph and would not accelerate any faster. Sudden slowdown caused vehicle behind (who was following to close) to suddenly brake, almost hitting me. Would slow when brakes applied. When brakes released vehicle would accelerate to 35-40 mph on its own without applying gas pedal. This vehicle has had four (4) recalls, and now two separate incidents as described above. I believe it is a hazard and the issue complained of herein, and previously, are of such magnitude that they pose a significant risk of accident potentially causing injury or death to others or myself.
Saturday [XXX] picked up maverick from dealer service at 11:00 am. Vehicle was reprogrammed for current recall, dash board was replaced, and oil change. After about 40 miles of driving the vehicle electrical systems shut down completely while driving on a busy 6 lane Blvd.. All systems went out nearly causing a collision. All warning lights and notices flashed quickly as the truck died. The last message told us to contact 911. Vehicle rolled a few more yards allowing us to get on a smaller side street before it came to a complete stop. Vehicle would not start or move. I had it towed back to the dealer at 5:00 pm. Service department closed Sunday and Monday [XXX]. Vehicle was left in an unguarded lot as instructed by sales manager on duty. I will be able to contact service department when they open Tuesday morning. This was a very serious event which could have easily lead to major injuries. We have planned a 1200 mile trip to Idaho this coming weekend to assist with family health issues. Now we will feel unsafe in our Maverick and can not use it due to our safety concerns. Now on line I see several reports of the same serious issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
May 25, 2024 I was driving north on a 2 lane road at about 50 mph. No other vehicles around. Passed a pedestrian walking SB on the opposite shoulder and shortly thereafter my collision assist startled me when it activated fully locking my seat belt and applying the brakes. Only "obstacle" was a very large dark shadow cast over the roadway by a stand of trees. June 9, 2024 Driving EB on a two lane highway, about 55 mph, approaching an intersection with a vehicle stopped at a red light on the south side of the intersection. Pre-collision assist activated again, slamming on the brakes, throwing me and my passenger forcefully forward into our locked seat belts. Scared us both, as there were no obstacles in our path. Thankfully no one was behind us, so we avoided a rear end collision. I have since deactivated the automatic emergency braking, because I no longer trust it will operate correctly and I don't want to be rear ended and/or sustain whiplash or other injuries because of erroneous activation of a "safety" system.
The plastic cooling system overflow expansion tank sign is stress cracking in the inlet tubing at approximately 8K miles. It has gotten worse with my odometer at 12K now. I have not contacted Ford regarding a warranty replacement because they would just replace it with the same defective part. I have further investigated this issue and found several documented cases with complete failure of the tank at a little as 20 K miles.
Yesterday, May 22nd, my 2023 Hybrid Maverick stalled while I was in the middle lane. Fortunately I was able to quickly get over to the shoulder but had absolutely no power. The D-drive gear position light was blinking orange light. Warning message came up on the dash, saying the vehicle won't operate in that gear. I looked down and the shift wheel was in the drive position, but the orange light was not lit on the shifter. I then got error messages, Service Engine Soon Warning, Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power Warning, Pre-Collision Assist Not Available Warning. This was really rattling, to have a modern vehicle, with only 20,000 miles stop operating in heavy traffic. It is the second time, this incident happens. The last time was on March 25th.
My vehicle stopped while driving down the road. I received the following errors: Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed Powertrain malfunction/reduced power Pre-collision assist not available Service engine soon warning Service AdvanceTrac Hill assist not available I was able to pull my vehicle off the road and get it parked. After letting it sit, I was able to get my vehicle started with only an engine light error. I attempted to take my vehicle to Anderson Ford in Rockford and they were confrontational. I just wanted to leave my vehicle and get a loaner, but they wouldn't confirm an issue and told me to leave my vehicle and fend for myself. They must know there's an issue and they want nothing to do with fixing the issue. They were willing to put me at risk instead of trying to help.
On Friday, May 17th around 2:00pm I was driving approximately 25mph when I got an abrupt warning and the truck started to drive differently. I don’t think the vehicle was responding to the gas pedal normally. The first warning said something about selected gear engaging at lower speed. Then there was a message about the pre-collision assist not working, hill ascent not working, and something else - reduced powertrain/service engine soon/advancetrac or something like that. As I pulled over and was slowing down, the truck abruptly threw itself into park while going 5-10mph. I turned it off and then back on and put it in drive. The truck began accelerating without my foot on the gas pedal. My truck got all the way up past 20mph before I slowed down. I tried to record this with my phone as there was no traffic. I could not see well what I was filming because I was looking at the road. My safety was put at risk because had this happened on the highway or a road with no shoulder, things could have been a lot more dangerous. It was scary enough going at a lower speed on a street without traffic. I noticed after this happened that I had a third open recall for the powertrain control module. If I would have known I had this recall and how serious it was, I would have brought it in immediately. Ford should have done more to ensure vehicles impacted by this recall were contacted ASAP. I brought my truck in to the Ford dealership first thing this morning and I am waiting to hear back. The service agent was aware of this ‘limp mode’ situation occurring. I believe I was the first Maverick owner to bring a truck in for this issue at my dealership. There were no warnings that this might occur. I went from driving leisurely to having to figure out what all the beeping and flashing alerts were and manage to get to the side of the road in a truck that was not driving/responding normally. Then the truck started accelerating without my foot on the pedal! I have a video of this
Vehicle put in drive, and upon accelerating, lost ability to accelerate while in drive, check engine indicator light turned on and power train warning prompts began flashing while moving avoiding traffic. I pulled over to the side of the road, put vehicle in park and turned off vehicle. Waited a minute, and turned vehicle back on, check engine indicator remained on, as well as power train warning prompt and Pre-Collision Warning Assist not available. Put vehicle in drive and could not accelerate normally, acceleration was delayed when I put my foot on the pedal. I removed my foot off of the accelerator and the vehicle then began to accelerate speed on it's own above 25mph. I then applied the brakes and pulled over again. This continued in the same pattern 2 more times, before I was able to drive the vehicle back to my house, with check engine lights and warning prompts on.
11 May 2024, I had started my truck as normal and began driving. About 2 miles from my house I lost all power to the truck. I was driving about 35 MPH when the truck threw up errors on the screen and I could no longer accelerate. It threw on the E Brake abruptly. Luckily no one was behind me as such an abrupt stop could cause a deadly accident. After I shut off the truck and waited 5 minutes and started the truck back up but it had a check engine light. I follow a forum called “ford maverick truck club” where I was made aware of this issue happening to maverick owners after a recall for the tail light. I had this recall preformed. I drove to a fort dealership where they attempted to fix the issue but said there was no remedy and only cleared the codes. I tried to contact ford by chat support to make them aware but they were not interested in me reporting any potential safety problems.
[XXX] On [XXX] my wife and were traveling on [XXX] at interstate speeds and after traveling for about 55 minutes with no issues. The vehicle suddenly lost power and a lot of warning lights came on. We were unable to accelerate and quickly pulled to the shoulder. [XXX] is very busy and dangerous. It would not move forward while in drive and pushed on accelerator it would not accelerate. We called with Ford Pass for a tow. They towed it to Dickson TN Ford dealership and it is still there. They were to call us once they found out the issue. Been there now 6 days no call as yet from them . Very frustrating, vehicle with 16 K miles and only had a bit over a year and now more issues. Hello, I believe Ford has failed to issue a recall that is causing water damage to brand new vehicles which posses a health risk(mold) to consumers as well as shorten the life of the product sold. My vehicle started having a problem with a wet passenger floor and after a quick search its clearly a common problem as there are several web forums dedicated to the issue. I should not have to pay for repairs that are clearly a manufacturing issue common across a brand new vehicle model. When I checked for a recall related to this there is none which is irksome to say the least. I messaged Ford and they would not acknowledge any existing recall or warranty covering for the issue and that repair would be at my own expense. Vehicle's engine suddenly cut out during driving ~15 mph. Multiple warning lights flashed. Vehicle ran on battery and was able to go at slow velocity but then transitioned to accelerating when pedal was not engaged. Hazard lights would shut off suddenly after driver turned them on. "Limp mode" is commonly used term for what happened.
The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently went into LIMP Mode and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,000.
I had an accident with sudden loss of power
I was on a freeway cruising around 85 mph when all of a sudden my truck lost power and went into limp mode. I had 3 dash warnings about powertrain malfunction, front end collision being unavailable, and something about engaging gear at low speeds. This has happened once before. Same three messages. The vehicle loses power and speed FAST. Luckily both times I was able to pull over and turn the vehicle off and back on and it just has a check engine light and drives normal again. I have had one software recall completed on my truck and I have 17,000 miles.
While driving on [XXX] [XXX] at approximately 9:15 PM vehicle suddenly lost power in the middle of traffic, couldn't keep speed (was driving roughly 70 mph) then started losing speed down to 30 mph although my foot was pressing the gas pedal to the floor. Warning lights came on, a message about being unable to engage a gear, loss of collision sensors and check battery, service engine light came on. Because I was on the truck and car portion of the highway (in further most left lane) I was nearly struck several times. Hazards were going on and off. When I made it to the shoulder I called FORD 24 hour service. I was on an out of town trip from PA to NYC a little more than halfway there. The rep told me Ford policy was to tow to the nearest dealership or within 50 miles, I'd have to cover the rest, quoted at $175 to take me to the dealership of origin & my home. By this time it was after 10:30. I was 49 miles from my destination so I asked for the closest dealership to that. Was charged $22.50 for 4 mile overage. Was NOT informed the tow service couldn't pick me up from the highway, rather was told I'd be texted with an eta, which came 10 minutes later with a 40-70 minute estimate. Then the tow company called to say I'd have to get state police to tow me off highway first, THEN call back with a pick up address. Not wanting to wait on the dangers shoulder ANOTHER 2 HOURS, I had to ride the shoulder with hazards on approximately 1 mile to get off highway. Car wasn't able to go past 30 mph and dropped as low as 10. The service center also gave tow driver wrong address (showroom not service) and tow driver dropped my car off in a tow zone once we found the service center. Disgusted with the lack of accountability and responsibilities, I wasn't safe until 2:30 AM. The next morning called service from hotel to beg for same day appointment as I was stranded, was almost sent home with a "few days or more" diagnostic estimate even after mentioning BCM recall news (no notice y INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving 15 MPH in hard rain during the day, he was unable to see out the front windshield. The contact stated that the windshield was blacked out. There were no warning lights illuminated. While cleaning the windshield, the contact noticed scratches going vertically and diagonally in the driver's view. Additionally, while sitting in the driver's side front seat, the contact noticed that the dark blue dashboard was reflecting on the windshield, making the windshield appear to be darker. The contact called the local dealer and was informed there were no recalls on the windshield. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
After having recall 23E09 performed the vehicle loses power and shifts to Neutral while driving. When this happens I am unable to shift back to Drive. The display reads “Gear Selected will Engage at Low Speed.” The "D" in the gear shift flashes. Once speed is reduced to around 5 MPH, the parking brake turns on automatically. The check engine light turns on, a "gear light" on the dash board is on, along with traction control light. The display then reads, “Shift to Park,” “Service AdvanceTrac,” “Hill Start Assist Not Available,” “Pre-Collision Assist Not Available,” and “Service vehicle soon.” After turning the vehicle off and back on again, the vehicle will drive normally with a check engine light still present. The check engine light eventually turns off until the cycle repeats itself and the same issue occurs again. Code: U1011 - Invalid Internal Control Module Monitoring Data Received from ECM/PCM Code: U1028 - ABS Control Module Received Invalid Data from ECM/PCM 'A' Code: U1010 - Invalid Internal Control Module Monitoring Data Received from Hybrid Powertrain Control Module These codes are present each time this issue occurs. This vehicle is unsafe to drive as it loses power on the freeway without notice. This has happened to me 5 times since having recall 23E09 performed on [XXX]. Many other Ford Maverick owners are reporting the same issue on online forums after having this recall. Ford needs to take action before this kills somebody. I have taken the vehicle to Tri State Ford in Amarillo, TX and they say that they are unable to replicate the issue and that they cannot reprogram the PCM & SOBDMC until Ford releases an official fix. The odometer readings when the vehicle has lost power have been 2135, 2437, 3130, 3201, and 3864. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Approximately around [XXX] a.m, [XXX], I was on my way to on the [XXX] . I was going driving around 75-78 mph when all of sudden my 2023 Maverick drop in speed and power suddenly. I looked at my dashboard and saw mph dropped to around 50. I had no knowledge of what was taking place at the time. I tried to press my acceleration pedal and the mph still was dropping, so I managed to get over to the far right lane so I could get to the shoulder. During this event several warning lights flashed, such as check engine soon, crash assist not available, power train malfunction ect. I turned the vehicle off and back on - it still had the same messages- I managed to drive the 5-10miles I had left on my route to work @ 33mph. Once at safe location I contacted a tow truck to haul my vehicle to Hennessey Ford for diagnostic and answers. I've never had any of these issues to take place since owning my truck. Never experienced Loss of power ever in my life. This is truly a event that has left me stunned and wondering will this truly be taken care of and addressed. It's a constant reminder in my head and and it also has prompted me to thank God for my life as well as others because if I hadn't left home to go to work about 30mins earlier than normally due to the traffic which would be pretty thick I may not be here today to tell this story, because there was no warning whatsoever. We on the interstate cruising @ 75. Lost all drive power, flashed something about a lower gear while I was making my way to the shoulder. When I got down to about 10 mph, the parking brake activated. When we came to a stop, it went into park, but the "P" was flashing. I couldn't disengage the brake or put it into gear . I turned it off and back on and was able to shift into drive and release the brake. It would move at this point, but it very slowly. We limped to the next exit. I turned it off and topped the tank off( had half tank) Then it started and was able to drive the other 170 miles home. CEL stayed on. Our concern is that this will happen again, cause an accident and injure or kill my family.
While driving vehicle at highway speed, error message stating “Gear Selected will Engage at Low Speed” and the vehicle lost all ability to drive at highway speed. Note: no buttons had been unintentionally selected, and it happened twice within a short period of time. Pulling to a safe location while in a rolling deceleration, the vehicle slammed on its brakes at about 5mph. It then showed error messages related to “advancetrac” “front collision avoidance” and “hill start not available” the vehicle would also only move in all electric mode. After turning off the vehicle and it sitting for a few minutes, it cranked and drove normally other than check engine light is still on. Same incident occurred ~1000 miles previous to this incident

Additionally, the contact stated that when the vehicle was turned off, she observed a loud crackling noise emanating from the radio. The contact stated that several lights on the instrument panel flashed on and off. The contact sustained ear injuries. Medical attention was not sought. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000.
I had 2 recalls fixed about 3 weeks ago. Today I was driving & my Maverick malfunctioned. (Maybe it's what they call Limp mode.) Many alerts & icons started flashing, I was prompted to pull over & call a dealer. I pulled over, was able to take some pics but some icons were no longer showing. I tried restarting the vehicle after a couple mins = same thing. I shut if off waited a few minutes & it worked. Well, check engine is still lit & some of the safety features won't turn on. I have copilot 360, lane keeping, etc, but most of those features are still affected. I called the dealer & am waiting for a call back. Many other Maverick hybrid owners have told me this happened after their recall fix. I wish I didn't get the recalls fixed.
On [XXX], I was driving home on [XXX] in Rocky Mount, Virginia. The truck lost power; the Drive Shift knob light was flashing, warnings started flashing, hill start assist was not available, service vehicle soon, pre-collision assist was not available, service advance Trac and parking brake applied automatically, and total loss of power. The truck came to a stop in about five seconds. I stopped, turned the truck off, and restarted. When I let off the brake and did NOT press the gas, it would start to accelerate all on its own up to about 28/29 mph, acting like it was in cruise control. When I pressed the accelerator pedal, nothing happened. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Driving no more than 40 mph, suddenly “gear shift will engage at low speeds” pops up. At this point there is no acceleration. Then when I get to stop at about 1mp it jerks me into an e-brake, immediately prompting “powertrain error”, “check engine”, “hill climb assist not available”, “collision warning not available”. This all started after the last recall was performed. This is now the second time this has done this. I am lucky it did not do this on the highway itself.
I was driving down the road at roughly 45 mph when all of the sudden my car went into neutral I was no longer able to accelerate. I was in the middle of a four-lane road with a traffic light coming up in cars coming from the opposite direction. I happen to be very lucky and right next to the Ford dealership when this happened, but this could be a major safety issue as others would not be so fortunate when vehicle was thrown into neutral. All the dash lights came on the check engine light came on. Wrench icon popped up on the instrument cluster as my car began to slow down as I pulled over once I got to roughly 5 mph the parking break engaged and came to a screeching halt. I was not able to disengage the parking break and could not move the vehicle into the drive position anymore. As stated before I was right next to the Ford dealership when this happened so I walked over and talked to the service center, they didn’t see any errors on my vehicle so I walked back to it started it up and the only remaining light was the check engine light and I was able to drive it over to the Ford dealership at which point the gentleman said he was able to see the errors. I have done a lot of reading online and this is called limp mode but is doing nothing to acknowledge this or proactively fix this on vehicles. From my understanding, this issue does not happen until after there are recalls done on the vehicle. I took my car into the shop at 9200 miles. Had it serviced for an oil change at which point Ford did two service recalls and now I’m experiencing this issue
I was driving on the interstate and the gear shift light started blinking. Then I started getting warning lights on the dash: - Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed - Powertrain malfunction/reduced power - Pre-collision assist not available - Service engine soon warning - Hill assist not available The car then abruptly slowed down to 35 mph and continued driving at 35 mph even when applying gas. The vehicle would slow down when the brake was applied, however releasing the brake, caused the car to accelerate to 35 mph. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford dealership, however it was the next day, after the car had been turned off for multiple hours. The dealership did not find any active codes, so there was no "fix". Abruptly coming to a stop on the interstate is scary and life-threatening. Ford needs to fix this issue as there could have been a catastrophic accident, had other motorists not been paying attention!
Vehicle lost power while driving at highway speed. Pulled over and restarted vehicle. Vehicle proceeded to accelerate without driver input. Multiple warning lights/systems activated including: POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION / REDUCED POWER; SERVICE ENGINE SOON WARNING; PRE-COLLISION ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE. Similar to issue described in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V267000
On [XXX] at approx. 9:30PM I was traveling on [XXX] in Garland, TX, at 70mph when my vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power, with speed immediately dropping to about 35-40mph. Cluster showed prompts saying 1) cannot use selected gear at this speed (light under "D" was flashing), 2) pre-collision not available; 3) Airbags sensor bad; 4) power-train warning; and, several others before telling me engine needed service. When I tried to accelerate it would go no faster than 25mph. When I applied the brakes and released them it would then accelerate to 35-40mph on its own. Engine light started flashing. When able to do so I pulled over and turned vehicle off. I started it back up and engine light stayed lit, but it continued to experience loss of power and go no faster than 25mph. Again, when I applied the brakes and released them it would accelerate to 35-40mph all on its own. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The CV Axle failed on the driver side around 26k miles. There are several other reports of this happening. They would only replace the one side under warrently. The other one is already going bad, but they won't replace yet. Just google "maverick cv alxe". You need tk recall all cv alxes on these trucks before something happens.
I had just driven roughly 30 freeway miles on my way home and the truck suddenly flashes a barrage of errors, ESC fails, gear selection at low speed message, hill assist disable, pre-collision assist disabled, ABS light is on, MIL is on, service wrench is on, and drive mode selection is disabled. My truck lost all response to gas pedal, slows down and then slams on the parking brake at like 1-2 mph. I shut it down, started it back up. I had no gas pedal input. The truck self-accelerates up to 30-35 mph. I don't know at which speed it would've stopped accelerating because because the speed limit was only 30 mph. I ended up just riding the brakes to keep the speed down for 3/4 mile so I could get home. I went to reverse into my space at home and the truck was self accelerating in reverse as well. Normally it just rolls back slowly, but this truck was really moving. I abandoned the idea of backing in because I was scared it would just drive itself into the wall. I will not go back out on the roads in Los Angeles driving this vehicle until this is fixed, I would knowingly be putting my life and others lives in serious danger. I was fortunate that I had read about this happening in the past few weeks to several other Maverick owners who have had this problem, so I was aware of what was happening when it started and was only going about 30 mph and there wasn't much traffic around because it was a rainy night. This would've been horrifying if I were on the freeway or in moving traffic, which has happened to others. According to what I've found on the internet, this issue it is a result of some bad software installed in a recent recall. I had the recall done on [XXX] when I had an oil change. Not sure if this is appropriate but this is a reddit thread from a month ago with a bunch of other drivers that have had this happen: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the road, where the vehicle lost motive power. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. The contact then drove to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 3,500.
While Driving on I-79 on Friday April 12th around 3pm my Ford Maverick would not accelerate when I pushed the gas pedal. I attempted to pass a tanker truck and as I pushed the gas pedal nothing happened. No acceleration whatsoever. As I looked down at the instrument panel I do not recall if any dashboard light lit up. I quickly pulled over on to the left hand shoulder of the interstate as I had an SUV barreling down on me from behind during the rain storm. I turned the engine off and waited about a minute before restarting the engine. It worked fine after that. I had it on the interstate since then and had no issues with it. I am on a Ford Maverick message board and many other owners have had similar problems.
All of a sudden, in the rain while driving home, suddenly the (Drive) Shift knob light was flashing, warnings started flashing, hill start assist not available, service vehicle soon, pre collision assist not available, service advance Trac, and parking brake applied automatically and total loss of power…. I almost got into an accident in the rain and traffic because the people driving behind me were going fast and my truck just suddenly lost power and I had those cars coming from behind that had to swerve out of my way. I managed to get it pulled off to a side street and turned it off and back on and still had no power and all the lights/warnings were still on. When you press on the gas, it wouldn’t go…. No throttle response. Could not go. Almost in an accident and it could have been worse if this happened with more traffic.
Vehicle lost power in traffic. Error messages on instrument clusters "Pre-Collision Assist not available Service AdvanceTrac Service vehicle soon Hill Start Assist not available Pre-Collision Assist not available" Shut off vehicle. When I restarted it everything returned to normal except check engine light was on
Regenerative braking system is not in sync with traditional braking system at low speeds. Braking will studder and cause the truck to jump as it brakes to a stop.
Cracked seam on the crossmember supporting the driver seat. While investigating a squeaking seat. I discovered a hairline crack in the metal that is under the cloth driver seat. Upon further investigation, I discovered that when pressure is applied to the seat, a bigger crack appears where a cross member is joined under the seat. This is causing the seat to flex more than usual putting more friction on the plastic mounts causing the squeaking sound.
Received multiple error messages while driving including: -Pre-collision assist not available -Service engine soon -Powertrain malfunction/reduced power -Drive mode selection disabled. The “D” on the gear shift was also flashing. I slowed down and the parking brake automatically engaged while still driving, which caused the truck to stop hard. I was able to drive it to a parking lot, but it felt like it was in between gears. I turned the truck off in the parking lot for a few minutes, and then successfully started it and made it to the dealership with warning lights on. This likely would have caused a wreck if it happened on a busy road at higher speeds. It sounds like many Maverick owners are experiencing this same issue after the last recall. I don’t feel safe driving my vehicle until this is resolved.
On the freeway all of sudden the “D” icon on the gear selected started flashing and then I started to receive multiple check engine light error messages one after the other, including: •Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed •Powertrain malfunction/reduced power •Pre-collision assist not available •Service engine soon warning •Service AdvanceTrac •Hill assist not available The truck then proceeded to switch into neutral all on its own and upon me trying to move the gear selector back into drive the car had zero power when applying the gas. I had to try to avoid traffic to get to the emergency lane with zero power just coasting to the side of the highway. Based on other Ford Maverick owners' testimony it seems Ford Maverick Hybrids getting a recall update to their Powertrain Control Module are then experiencing unpredictable and recurring instances of their truck suddenly having these check engine and random shutdown issues. It seems this has happened to dozens of owners, often at high speeds in the middle of the interstate. It begins with a sudden cascade of alerts (like 5 different malfunctions and systems shutting down). My Ford Maverick was towed and is currently being inspected at the Ford dealer.
