WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH AND WITHOUT ANY INDICATION CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE, RIGHT SIDE OF VEHICLE DROPPED DOWN TO THE RIM , TIRE HAD A BLOWOUT. *AK THE SIDE WALL OF THE RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS COMPLETELY DETACHED DUE TO FACTORY DEFECT. TIRE SIZE P225/70R15 AND DOT # HYUU1P0120. *YH
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 15MPH ONE STREET AND SHE WAS MAKING A TURN, AND SHE WAS SMELLING GAS ODOR FOR A WEEK. GASOLINE STARTED POURING OUT ONTO THE GROUND. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. CURRENTLY, VEHICLE HAS STALLING PROBLEMS. *AK

TOOK TRUCK IN AT 5000 MILES FOR ENGINE PROBLEMS-THE SAID IT WAS A CARBON BUILD UP.TOOK BACK IN FOR ENGINE A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER FOR SAME PROBLEM -THEY REPLACED ENGINE.THAT ENGINE WAS BAD TOOK BACK IN AGAIN AND THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE AGAIN.THEN 1 1/2 MONTHS LATER TOOK IN FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS-(NOT SHIFTING INTO SECOND GEAR) THEY FIXED THE TANSMISSION.HAVE HADTRUCK I 3 TIMES FOR DOOR AJAR SENSORS GOING OFF.INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE FALLING OFF.TAILGATE DOESN'T OPERATE PROPELY.ENGINE WAS MAKING LOUD HOWLING NOISE.MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE,TOTALLY UNDEPENDABLE FORD MOTOR COMPANY SAYS YOU BOUGHT IT YOU'RE STUCK WITH IT.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I HEARD A LOUD "BOOM" ON THE REAR OF MY TRUCK. I HAD NOT HIT ANYTHING. I PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY AND DISCOVERED MY TIRE HAD BLOWN OUT. UPON INSPECTING THE TIRE, I NOTICED A 1 INCH RUPTURE IN THE CENTER OF TIRE BETWEEN THE TREADS. I'M LUCKY THIS RUPTURE WAS NOT BIGGER. I HAVE UNDER 7000 MILES ON THESE TIRES AND QUITE FRANKLY I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE ON THEM. I THINK THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE THESE TIRES AS WELL. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. CANNOT TRUST THE TRUCK TO ACCELERATE INTO TRAFFIC. *AK
ABS BRAKES LOCK UP. DEALER DECLARES BRAKES SAFE, BRAKES LOCK UP AND ARE NOT PUMPED OR "SLAMMED" ,,, STANDARD PRESSURE CAUSES BRAKES TO LOCK UP - OCCASSIONALLY. *AK
FRAME OF VEHICLE IS BENT AND HAS DEVELOPED CRACKS WHICH HAS PREVENTED BED FROM POSITIONING CLOSELY TO FRAME. CONSUMER STATED THAT THIS WAS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT WHICH HAS CAUSED VEHICLE TO BECOME UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *AK CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE WAS LIKE THIS WHEN IT WAS BOUGHT NEW, HOWEVER DEALER STATED IT WOULD BE FIXED AND EVERYTIME THEY TRIED TO CONTACT DEALER THEY WOULD TURN THEIR BACKS ON THE CONSUMER. *SLC
TIRES ARE SHOWING SIGNS OF CATOSTROPHIC FAILURE. THE TIRES ARE SPLITTING AT THE TREAD /SIDEWALL INTERFACE. ADDITIONALLY THE TIRES STARTED TO "THUMP / VIBRATE, AND CAUSE A STEERING WHEEL SHIMMY, AND ALSO CAUSED A LOW SPEED ROCKING OF THE VEHICLE". I CONTACTED TWO FIRESTONE DEALERS, AND A FORD DEALER, BUT THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE TIRES. I PURCHASED NEW TIRES (MICHELIN LTX) AND THAT ELIMINATED THE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED PROBLEMS.*AK (DOT NUMBER: W2 TIRESIZE: P235-75R15)
FIRESTONE (P245/75R16) WILDERNESS TIRE EXPERIENCED A BLOWOUT ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE SIDEWALL, THE TIRE HAD 874 MILES ON IT. NLM
THIS TRUCK HAS NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH IT INCLUDING THE ONES THAT I HAVE LISTED. I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK SINCE JUNE 9TH, AND IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR OVER 55 CONSECUTIVE DAYS. TRANSMISSION FAILED TWICE/ INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILED, AND SPEED CONTROL FAILED.THE DEALER AND MANUFACTOR IS LAYING BLAME ON ME FOR THESE PROBLEMS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS TRUCK, THE FIRST TIME THE TRANSMISSION WENT I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION AND WAS ALMOST HIT. THE SECOND TIME WHICH WAS A MONTH AFTER THEY HAD IT IN THE SHOP I WAS GOING TO IMPORTANT TRAINING FOR THE U.S. COAST GUARD, AND IT FAILED. THE FIRST TIME THEY HAD THE TRUCK FOR 20 DAYS AND THE SECOND TIME THEY HAVE HAD IT FOR OVER 35 DAYS NOW AND I STILL DON'T HAVE IT. THERE ARE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS, THAT THEY AREN'T EVEN TELLING ME ABOUT. THE DEALER ISN'T HELPING ME WITH THIS AT ALL. I WANT TO GET OUT OF THIS VEHICLE SINCE I HAVE ONLY HAD IT SINCE JUNE AND THEY WILL NOT HELP THERE BLAMING ME FOR ALL THE PROBLEMS.*AK

REAR FRAME RUSTED AND CRACKED ON BOTH SIDES AND THE SPARE TIRE HOLDER IS RUSTED AND READY TO FALL OFF. THE TRUCK IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO AN 11 YEAR OLD TRUCK. JUST AS TOYOTA DID, FORD SHOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR FRAMES.
WHILE TRAVELING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA, THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER TIRE BLEW OUT, THE BLOWOUT PUSHED ME INTO THE CURB AND CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE SUSPENSION. AFTER HAVING THE TRUCK TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD TO OF HIT SOMETHING TO CAUSE THE BLOWOUT. I HIT THE CURB AFTER THE BLOWOUT OCCURED. MY INSURANCE COMPANY PAID FOR REPAIRS UNDER COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE WITH A $250.00 DEDUCTIBLE. I HAD A1999 RANGER THAT WAS GREAT, THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN A PIECE OF TRUCK SINCE DAY 1. NO SAFETY DEFECT MENTIONED IN SUMMARY. *AK
BRAKES WOULD LOCK UP WHEN FIRST APPLIED AFTER SITTING AT NIGHT DURING RAINY WEATHER. *AK
THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AT ALL.
WHEN CLOSING THE REAR DOOR USING NORMAL PRESSURE IT FAILS TO CLOSE ON THE UPPER LATCH. THIS ALLOWS THE MAIN DOOR TO BE HELD CLOSED WITH ONLY ONE-HALF OF THE LATCHING ASSEMBLIES. WHEN DRIVING IN THIS CONDITION THE 'DOOR AJAR' INDICATOR DOES NOT LIGHT. AT THESE TIMES I AM UNAWARE THAT THE DOOR IS NOT FULLY SECURED. *AK

FACTS AS PER THE INSD. INSD WAS TRAVELING INTERSTATE 20 IN THE LEFT LANE, VEH WAS IN CRUISE CONTROL AT 70 MPH. INSD HEARD A NOISE AND THE VEHICLE STARTED LEANING TO THE LEFT, VEH. DRIFTED ONTO THE MEDIAN. VEH. THEN FLIPPED OVER. THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE ARE FIRESTONE WILDERNESS ATS AND THE SIZE IS P225 70 R15.

AT 7989 MILES (9/16/00) THE REAR BRAKES WERE REPLACED & FRONT ROTORS MACHINED AGAIN. AT 11085 MILES (12/11/00) THE FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED. AT 14672 MILES (2/22/01) FRONT ROTORS WERE CUT. AT 18224 MILES (5/2/01) RABS VALVE, MASTER CYLINDER, FRONT PADS ALL REPLACED & FRONT ROTORS REPLACED (AGAIN). AT 32457 MILES (1/14/02) FRONT PADS NEED REPLACED (AGAIN) & FRONT ROTOR NEEDS TO BE MACHINED (AGAIN), REAR DRUMS WERE MACHINED. ALL REPAIR ORDERS REFER TO THE ROTOR SURFACE AS BEING "UNEVEN" OR "OUT OF ROUND".*AK

IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER, BRANDON FORD AND THEY REPLACED THE WHOLE TIGHT ASSEMBLY COSTING ABOUT $600 AND WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THEY DID NOT, HOWEVER CHECK OR REPLACE THE LEFT SIDE ASSEMBLY WHICH FAILED AT A HIGHER SPEED. THE LEFT SIDE ASSEMBLY LOCKED UP 200 MILES LATER WHILE I WAS TAKING IT TO HAVE IT REPLACED AND THIS TIME AT 65 MPH AND ALMOST THREW ME INTO A RETAINING WALL BEING USED ON I-4 MLK TAMPA. I AM FILING THIS REPORT WITH YOU SO THAT IF THERE ARE ANY MORE VEHICLES OUT THERE -EXPLORER AND RANGERS THAT FORD FAILED TO LUBRICATE AND ARE SUBJECT TO FAILURE, IT WILL BE ON RECORD. PERSONALLY, I THINK THAT THE PROBLEM WAS PROBABLY AN AUTOMATED "STATION" THAT WAS COMPUTER CONTROLLED AND THAT RAN OUT OF GREASE AND WASN'T CAUGHT UNTIL MUCH LATER. I ALSO FEEL THAT WHEN IT WAS FOUND THEY DECIDED TO LET IT PASS RATHER THAN DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM AT THAT TIME AND WAIT FOR THE CONSUMER TO REPORT A FAILURE TO HIS DEALER. THIS ISN'T JUST CYNICISM, I HAVE OWNED A 1987 COUGAR,FIRESTONE 500 TIRES AND A CHEVY PU WITH SIDE SADDLE GAS TANKS.

TIRE BLEW OUT CAUSING VEH TO GO OUT OF CONTROL AND VEH FLIPPED. TONY, THE TIRE IS A FIRESTONE WILDERNESS. ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT WITH 9911 MILES ON IT. IT WAS ON A 2000 FORD RANGER. WE DO NOT HAVE THE TIRE SIZE OR DOT STANDARD CODE. (CLAIM# 75-2317-759) *MW
COMPUTER PARTS REGULATING THE TRANSMISSION, DRIVE TRAIN, AND ENGINE HAVE FAILED ON FOUR DIFFERENT OCCASSIONS. THE LAST INCIDENT, JUNE 19, 2000, THE TRUCK SWITCHED FROM 2 WHEEL DRIVE INTO FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ROUNDING A CORNER. THIS SUDDEN JOLT CAUSED THE TRUCK TO TIP ONTO TWO WHEELS AND THEN SLAM BACK DOWN. BOTH MYSELF AND MY PASSENGER WERE TOSSED AROUND THE TRUCK CAUSING HEAD, NECK, AND BACK INJURIES. THE TRUCK HAD BEEN IN FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS ATLEAST THREE TIMES PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. MY TRUCK IS ONLY 40 DAYS OLD AND I AM ALREADY SCARED TO DRIVE IT DUE TO FEAR OF SERIOUS BODILY INJURY. I CAN'T POSSIBLY IMAGINE THAT I AM THE ONLY PERSON WHO IS EXPERIENCING THESE PROBLEMS WITH THE 2000 FORD RANGER.*AK
