I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON HIGHWAY I-25 IN COLORADO WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, I HEARD A "WEIRD" SOUND AND MY TRUCK STARTED TO SWING FROM ONE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO THE OTHER. I MANAGED TO GET IT UNDER CONTROL AND PUT IT ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. THE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY SHREDDED. FIRESTONE BLAMED IT ON ME, SAID THAT I DROVE OVER A NAIL OR SOMETHING AND THAT THEY WOULDN'T COVER ANYTHING. IT WAS CLEARLY VISIBLE THAT THE THREAD HAD SEPERATED, ALL AROUND. I HAD LOST MY CONFIDENCE IN THE TIRES SINCE ONE OTHER TIRE SHOWED MARKS ON THE SIDE AND I BOUGHT BRIDGESTONE TIRES. AFTER A LONG DISCUSSION, THEY AGREED TO REFUND ME FOR ONE TIRE.( DOT NUMBER: )
CONSUMER HAD 4 TIRE FLATS ALL BECAUSE OF RIDING IN GRAVEL, GRAVEL WORKS ITS WAY INTO TIRE. TIRES ARE TOO THIN, AND THEY GET PIERCED. THIS CAUSES A FLAT.*AK THE A/T ON FIRESTONE WILDERNESS FOR ALL TERRAIN WHICH MEANS RESISTANT TO MORE HAZARDS THAN NORMAL TIRES. HOWEVER, IT IS NOT EVEN SUITABLE FOR IN TOWN DRIVING. *YH
WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 55 MPH A DEER CAME OUT ON THE HIGHWAY, CONSUMER HIT BRAKES, SLID DOWN HIGHWAY A LITTLE, BUT DIDN'T HIT THE DEER OR ANYTHING ELSE. HOWEVER, BOTH PASSENGER'S AND DRIVER'S AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. CONSUMER FELT THAT AIRBAGS SHOULDN'T HAVE DEPLOYED. IF IN TRAFFIC, IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY BAD CHAIN REACTION, RESULTING IN INJURIES. *AK

BRAKES PULLING TO LEFT WHEN STOPPING, DEALER SAYS FORD WORKING ON IT. DEALER FAILS TO ATTEMPT REPAIR. ADVISES ME TO DRIVE UNTIL NOTIFIED IN FUTURE. *AK
THE VEHICLE HESITATED FOR 5-30 SECONDS BEFORE ACCELERATING WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN NUMEROUS TIMES TO DEALERSHIP FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THEREFORE, NO SOLUTION WAS PROVIDED. *AK *SC *JB

I BOUGHT A 2000 FORD RANGER TRAILHEAD IN MAY 2000.SINCE I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT ,IT HAS BEEN STALLING WHENEVER I PUSH IN THE CLUTCH TO STOP OR TURN A CORNER.THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE GASTANK IS AT OR ABOVE 3/4 OF A TANK.THREE TIMES I`VE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER,AND I WAS TOLD THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE IDLE,BUT THEY DON`T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT.ON THE THIRD TIME PICKING UP MY TRUCK,I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM.IT STALLED 5 TIMES ON MY WAY HOME! I EVEN TALKED TO FORD REPS.ABOUT IT AND STILL HAVEN`T HEARD A THING BACK. IF I CAN`T GET THE DEALERSHIP OR FORD TO RECOGNIZE THE STALLING PROBLEM,WHAT DO I DO?PLEASE HELP ME?*AK
WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED THAT MY TRUCK WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT ALL OF A SUDDEN. UPON INSPECTING THE RIGHT FRONT I FOUND THE R FRONT TIRE FLAT. AFTER CHANGING THE TIRE I NOTICED THAT THE TREAD LOOKED LIKE IT WAS STARTING TO COME APART. I RETURNED THE TIRE TO THE DEALER SINCE IT ONLY HAD 900 MILES ON IT AND WAS INFORMED THAT TIRES ARE NOT COVERED BYWARRANTY.I PURCHASSED A NEW TIRE AND CONTACTED FIRESTONE VIA TELEPHONE. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO, BUT AFTER FIGHTING WITH THE REP. SHE PUT ME ON HOLD AND WHEN SHE CAME BACK SHE SAID "THAT FOR COSTUMER SATIFACTION THEY WOULD SEND ME A CHACK FOR HALF THE COST LESS TAXES AFTER THEY RECIVE A COPY OF THE BILL". I FAXED THEM A COPY AND RECIVED A CHECK FOR $47.00 IN A FEW WEEKS. IN MY PHONE CONVERCATION I STRESSED THAT IT LOOKED LIKE THE TREAD WAS COMMING PART BUT THEY DENIED IT AND THAT WAS THE END. NOW THE NEWS HITS THAT THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND STILL REFUSE TO ADMIT IT. I HAVE UNSAFE TIRES AND WILL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE PURCHASS NEW ONE AND SEEK TO FILE A LAWSUIT ON THIS MATTER.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P245/75R16 )

CONSUMER IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH CLUTCH. CLUTCH PEDAL FEELS SLUGGISH, AND SOMEITMES IT SLIPS. OTHER TIMES, CLUTCH WON'T COME BACK ALL THE WAY. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP, AND THEY DID NOTHING FOR CONSUMER. AFTER A SHORT TIME, CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP FOR A SECOND TIME, AND DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT WARRANTY EXPIRED. *AK
I FELT A SMALL BUMP THAT I LATER FOUND OUT WAS A SOUP BONE THAT I RAN OVER RIGHT AFTER LEAVING MY TOWNHOUSE. I PROCEEDED TO ROUTE 97 GOING TO WORK. I WAS TRAVELING AT 65 MPH WHEN I HEARD A NOISE LIKE A HELICOPTER OVERHEAD AND THEN THE TRUCK BEGAN TO WEAVE. I PULLED OVER QUICKLY AND DISCOVERED MY LEFT REAR TIRE TOTALLY OFF THE RIM AND CUT COMPLETELY ROUND THE MIDDLE. AFTER SEEING THE TIRE (WHICH I STILL HAVE) EVERYONE HAS SAID I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE AND I AGREE. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE TIRE REPLACED AND SINCE THE TIRES WERE DUE FOR ROTATION I HAD THAT DONE. I HAD NO IDEA THAT THIS TIRE WAS CAUSING PROBLEMS FOR OTHERS AS WELL. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A BACK ROAD IN A RAIN SHOWER, TRUCK BEGAIN TO PULL TO THE RIGHT.I STOP THE VEHICLE AND LOOKED AT THE TIRES AND THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE WAS FLAT.I CHANGED THE TIRE AND RETURNED IT TO THE FORD DEALER I PURCHASSED THE TRUCK FROM BECAUSE IT APPEARED TO ME THE TREAD WAS STARTING TO SEPERATE.AS THE TIRE ONLY HAD 900 MILES ON IT I FOUGHT WITH THE DEALER BUT LOST AND HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW TIRE TO REPLACE IT.I CONTACTED FIRESTONE DORECT AND WAS IN FORMED THAT THEY WANTED THE TIRE BEFORE THEY WOULD MAKE DO ANYTHING AND I INFORMED THEM THAT THE DEALER HAD THE TIRE BUT THAT THEY HAD A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THEIR TIRES IF THEY COME APART AT ONLY 900 MILES. PE00020, ORIGINAL TIRES ON A, FORD RANGER, 2000, FIRESTONE WILDERNESS HT, 22570R15. ALL 4 TIRES ARE NOT COMPLETELY ROUND. THIS CAUSES A VIBRATION FROM THE FLOOR ALL THE WAY TO THE STEERING WHEEL.*AK THE DEALER REPLACED FIRESTONE TIRES BUT ALL OF THEM VIBRATED. THE DEALER THEN REPLACED TIRES WITH GOODYEAR AND THE REST WITH DUNLOP TIRES AND NO VIBRATION OCCURED. *YH
WHILE DRIVING CAME TO A STOP SIGN, AND APPLIED THE BRAKES, VEHICLE UPSHIFTED AND ACCELERATED. KEPT FOOT ON BRAKES AND REAR WHEELS WERE SPINNING AND SCREECHING. WAS ABLE TO PUT VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND STOP. CONTACTED DEALER, VEHICLE IS THERE NOW. *AK

WHILE PULLING INTO DRIVEWAY AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT A HIGHT RATE OF SPEED. RPMS INCREASED FROM 1000 RPM TO 6000 IN A MATTER OF SECONDS, RESULTING IN A CRASH. VEHICLE WAS FORCED INTO A TREE, AND HIT A CAR. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED DEALER. *AK *ML

CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND STEERING: SPINDLE: KNUCKLE CAME OFF, LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE, AND SIDE SWIPED ANOTHER VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, DUAL AIRBAGS DID DEPLOY. ONE INJURY WAS SUSTAINED. *AK

THIS IS THE CURRENT RECALL TIRE. I HAVE A SLICE IN THE TIRE THAT WAS POINTED OUT AT THE TIME I BOUGHT THE TRUCK. AT THAT TIME, THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THIS WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM. SINCE THAT TIME THERE HAS BEEN MUCH TALKED ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH THESE TIRES. SOME TALK ABOUT THE SLICES IN THE TIRES, AS WELL AS THE SEPERATION PROBLEMS. NOW I HAVE A SLOW LEEK IN THE REAR LEFT TIRE, (THE ONE WITH THE SLICE IN IT). IT IS A RECALL TIRE BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WOULD BE AT LEAST 2-3 MONTHS BEFORE THE REPLACEMENTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN OUR AREA. SO I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A TIRE REPAIR SHOP TO FIX IT, THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR THE TIRE DUE TO THIS SLICE IN THE SIDEWALL. IN THE MEANTIME I AM ADDING AIR TO THIS TIRE EVERY DAY TO MAINTAIN IT UNTILL I CAN GET MY REPLACEMENT TIRES. MY QUESTION IS, DO I HAVE ANY OTHER OPTIONS OR RECOURSE. UPON IMPACT, THE SEAT BELTS DIDN'T LOCK & THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. CONSUMER'S JAW WAS BANGED UP,AND THE PASSENGERS ARM WAS BROKEN IN 4 DIFFERENT PLACES. DEALER IS INVESTIGATING. *AK
VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. DEALER NOTIFIED, AND MADE SOME REPAIRS. CURRENTLY, VEHICLE WAS STILL PULLING TO THE LEFT. DEALER NOTIFIED AGAIN, AND WAS UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
TRAILER HITCH ATTACHED BY ONLY 2 OF 6 BOLTS. UPON PLACING BOAT ON HITCH, THE HITCH WAS SO LOOSE IT SHIFTED. HAD I TOWED THE BOAT, THE HITCH WOULD EVENTIALLY FAILED, SENDING A 25 FT BOAT FLIPPING DOWN THE HIGHWAY.*AK

WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 65 MPH, DRIVER NOTICED A RAPID DECREASE IN THE FUEL GAUGE. OWNER PULLED TRUCK OVER AND A LARGE PUDDLE OF FUEL FORMED ON THE GROUND IMMEDIATELY. AFTER CRAWLING UNDER THE TRUCK, OWNER AND FIREMAN WERE ABLE TO SEE THE THAT FUEL LINE FITTING CAME APART BECAUSE THE RETAINING RING WAS DEFECTIVE. TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED. *AK

AT 900 MILES TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SQUEAL AFTER IT GOT WARM. CURRENTLY, AT 3000 MILES, IT STARTED TO HUM. CONSUMER FELT IT GOT WORSE. TOOK TO VEHICLE TO DEALER 3 TIMES, AND MECHANIC SAID FORD ENGINEERING KNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEM, BUT DID NOT HAVE A REMEDY. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, TRAVELING 25MPH, AND EXITING OFF THE RAMP, ALL OF SUDDEN LOST CONTROL OF STEERING. LEFT SIDE OF BUMPER HIT THE SIDE RAILS. WHEEL WAS WOBBLING. NO SKIDDING. CONTACTED DEALER. VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. *AK

THIS 2000 RANGER IS HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THIS IS A REPLACEMENT VEHICAL FOR A 1999 RANGER I HAD WHICH HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS. NOW MY NEW TRUCK IS DOING THE FOLLOWING: TRANSMISSION SHUTTERS BETWEEN GEARS SHAKING VEHICAL, CLUNKS INTO GEAR, HESITATES. TRUCK HAS BEEN IN SHOP ONCE NOW, DEALER FOUND NO PROBLEM AND SAID "I DON'T WANT TO SEE THIS TRUCK IN OUR SHOP AGAIN". THIS WAS THE SAME DEALER WHICH HAD MY 1999 TRUCK FOR 42 DAYS BEFORE THE BUY BACK FROM FORD. *AK

THEY COULD NOT FIX IT SINCE IT DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE THE TRUCK WAS IN THEIR POSSESION.ON JAN.3,2000,I WAS DRIING AND AGIN IT HAPPENED.BUT THIS TIME THE NEEDLE DID NOT GO BACK UP IT STAYED DOWN. I LOST POWER AND CRUISED TO A STOP. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO FORD ON MONDY AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT FOUND THE PROBLEM.I WILL NOT PICK IT UP BECAUSE I AM TOO AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. WHAT IF I SHOULD LOSE POWER AND I GET REAR ENDED?/THEY PROMISE TO TRY AND FIND IT BUT I AM NOT HAPPY.THIS TRUCK IS BRAND NEW(NOT QUITE 4 WEEKS).I AM PAYING BIG PAYMENTS ON SOMETHING I WON'T DRIVE. ON DECEMBER 30, 1999, I TOOK A TRIP TO ROBERT LEE, TX WITH MY NEW VEHICLE. UPON AWAKING THE NEXT MORNING AT MY HOTEL, I DISCOVERED THAT MY LEFT REAR TIRE WAS SHREDDED AND FLAT. UPON MY RETURN, I CONTACTED FORD, WHO INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH FIRESTONE. I WENT TO FIRESTONE, THE TECHNICIAN TRIED TO TELL ME THAT I HAD HIT THE CURB WITH MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE, WHEN IN FACT, IT WAS MY LEFT REAR TIRE THAT HAD MY SPARE ON IT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. AFTER GOING ROUND AND ROUND WITH FIRESTONE, THEY INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY HALF THE PRICE OF A NEW TIRE. THEY WERE DOING THIS AS GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE, AT THAT TIME, THEY KNEW IN FACT, THAT THERE WAS TROUBLE WITH THEIR TIRES AND FAILED TO INFORM ME. INSTEAD THEY HAD ME FOOT THE BILL FOR RELACEMENT OF THE TIRE. I HAVE CONTACTED BOTH FORD AND FIRESTONE NUMEROUS TIMES, REGARDING THIS MATTER AND I KEEP GETTING THE SAME RUN AROUND. THEY REFUSE TO REFUND MY COST OF THE TIRE AND THEY STAND BY THE FACT, THAT ONLY THE SPECIFIED TIRES OF THE RECALL, HAVE HAD A PROBLEM. WHEN IN FACT, THIS IS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE, I HAD ONLY HAD ONE MONTH AND THIS WAS ITS FIRST LONG TRIP. I HAVE BEEN VERY DISGUSTED IN TRYING TO DEAL WITH BOTH OF THESE FIRMS AND THEIR DISREGARD FOR THE CONSUMER'S SAFETY IS OF GREAT CONCERN TO ME. WAS DRIVING 55MPH & VEHICLE WOULD DRIFT LEFT WHEN BRAKES APPLIED. TOOK TO DEALER & NOTHING FOUND. DROVE SOME MORE & PROBLEM WAS GETTING WORSE. TOOK IT BACK & SERVICE MANAGER INDICATED PROBLEM WAS WITH THE BRAKES. IT WAS DRIFTING LEFT. ALSO, WOULD DRIFT WHEN STEERING WAS RELEASED & SHAKING. TIRES WERE FOUND OUT OF BALANCE. FIRESTONE, WILDERNESS ATX, 0235/75R15. RIGHT FRONT TIRE WENT FLAT & WAS INFORMED RAN OVER A NAIL, BUT IT COULD NOT BE PRODUCED. *AK

ENGINE WAS MAKING A PINGING NOISE, IT WAS A SPARK PLUG KNOCK. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER STATED NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THIS WAS A FORD PROBLEM.CONTACTED FORD, AND FORD DON'T HAVE PART TO FIX PROBLEM. PLEASE ADD VIN. *AK
THE RIGHT REAR PARKING BRAKE LINE IS BEING WORN THROUGH BY THE SHOCK...I RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP - THEY ADVISED THAT IT IS THE DESIGN... THERE IS NO CURRENT "FIX"... APPROXIMATELY 1/8 INCH IS WORN IN BRAKE CABLE... THE REAR SHOCK UPPER TUBE HAS FORCED THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE UNDER IT AND ITS NOW AGAINST THE LOWER THIN SHOCK TUBE... AS THE TRUCK RIDES AND HITS BUMPS... IT FORCES THE BRAKE LINE UP AND DOWN AS IF SAWING... THIS IS WEARING THROUGH... NEW YEAR MODEL TRUCK - DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT OTHER FORD RANGERS... ALL THE SAME.... SO MORE OF THIS TYPE OF EVENT WILL BE OCCURRING. *AK
JUMP-SEAT PASSENGER SLAMMED HEAD INTO REAR GLASS DURING SUDDEN STOP. PASSENGER WAS A 7-YEAR OLD CHILD THAT SLAMMED HER HEAD INTO THE BACK GLASS DURING A SUDDEN STOP. THE JUMP SEATS ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR PASSENGERS, AND A FORCEFUL IMPACT OR CRASH WOULD SEND THE PASSENGER'S HEAD THROUGH THE BACK WINDOW. FACTORY AND DEALERSHIP HAVE BEEN UNWILLING TO TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION. THE VEHICLE WAS RECOMMENDED BY THE DEALER TO BE SAFE FOR JUMPSEAT OCCUPANTS. THE ONLY RESOLUTION IS TO PLACE THE CHILD IN THE FRONT SEAT WITH ONLY A LAPBELT. CONSUMER IS TRYING TO HAVE DEALERSHIP TAKE THE VEHICLE IN ON TRADE FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT DOES NOT POSE A SAFETY RISK FOR CHILDREN. *AK
IT ALL STARTED WITH I PULLED OVER DUE TO SEVERE STEERING DIFFICULTIES. FOUND TIRE FLAT. CONTACTED DISCOUNT TIRE COMPANY AND THEY SAID THE TIRE STEEL BELTS BUSTED. THEY SAID HAD I NOT PULLED OVER I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE CRASHED THE VEHICLE AND POTENTIALLY DIED DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE BLOWOUT. I CALLED FIRESTONE AND THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE TIRE OR DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY TRIED GETTING FIRESTONE TO PONY UP TO THE PROBLEM TO NO AVAIL. I SHOWED THE TIRE TO TWO OTHER TIRE RETAILERS AND THEY SAID IT WAS A DEFECTIVE TIRE - THAT SUCH SEPARATION SHOULD NOT OCCUR AFTER 31 MILES. I HAD MY HUSBAND THEN GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND FIRESTONE TO DISCUSS THE PROBLEM TO NO AVAIL. I FINALLY, FEARING FOR MY SAFETY, HAD THEM PUT NEW TIRES ON ALL FOUR WHEELS (BF GOODRICH RADIAL T/A). I FIGURED IF FIRESTONE WASN'T GOING TO OWN UP TO THEIR PROBLEMS IT WOULD TAKE MY DEATH FOR SOMEONE TO DO SOMETHING. I AM NOT WILLING TO TAKE THAT RISK. I AM REPORTING THIS NOW BECAUSE I DID NOT KNOW WHOM ELSE TO REPORT IT TO OTHER THAN THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. I LISTENED TO THE HEARINGS AND DECIDED TO SUBMIT THIS REPORT. I SUGGEST YOU CHECK NATIONWIDE WITH THE TIRE REPLACEMENT DEALERS IF YOU REALLY WANT AN ACCURATE NUMBER OF HOW MANY BLOWOUTS/TIRE FAILURES HAVE REALLY OCCURED.
