WHILE IN ANY GEAR, WHEN YOU ACCELERATE DRIVE SHAFT KLUNKS,AS IF IT WANTS TO CATCH UP TO SPEED OF ENGINE. SAME WITH DEACCELERATE. VERY UNCONFORTABLE DRIVING-SHIFTING. THANKS MARK
MY SON WAS DRIVING HIS FORD RANGER P.U. ON THE FREEWAY IN SAN DIEGO AND NOTICED HIS FUEL GAUGE DROPPED VERY FAST. HE RE-FUELED AT SERVICE STATION AND UPON RETURNING TO FREEWAY, TWO PASSING CARS FLAGGED HIM OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND TOLD HIM GAS WAS SPRAYING OUT FROM UNDER HIS TRUCK. APPARENTLY THE FUEL FILTER HAD COME LOOSE FROM THE FUEL LINE AND COULD HAVE HAD CATASTOPHIC RESULTS IF IT HAD IGNITED. I HAVE READ SIMILARCOMPLAINTS ON THIS WEB SITE AND CAN'T IMAGINE WHY SOMETHING HAS NOT BEEN DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I HAD TO PAY THE COST TO REPAIR HIS TRUCK ALONG WITH A RENTAL CAR,TOW TRUCK AND LOSS OF NEARLY TWO TANKS OF GAS, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. FORD SHOULD BE MADE RESPONSIBLE TO MAKE RESTITUTION IN SUCH CASES, AS THIS APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THIS IS A VERY UNUSUAL EVENT TO HAVE HAPPEN ON A MOTOR VEHICAL AND SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO.
PROBLEMS WITH GAUGE READING ON 2000 FORD RANGER.*MR WHEN THE CONSUMER STARTED THE VEHICLE IN THE MORNING THE GAUGE WOULD READ 20% ABOVE FULL. AFTER DRIVING LESS THAN 10 MILES THE GAUGE DROPPED TO THE TRUE READING 1/4 OF A TANK. THE FLOAT IN THE TANK SEEM TO STICK CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. *NM

RED STICKER ON TRANSMISSION, U.S. DEALERS ONLY, 4R44E AND 5R55E, EXCHANGE PROGRAM PRIOR TO REPAIR, SEE TSB 99-08, VOID AFTER MAY 31, 2000. WHAT THE HECK DOES THIS MEAN? WILL WE OR COULD WE HAVE A FAILURE IN THE FUTURE WITH THE TRANSMISSION. CONSUMER NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH FRONT END SUSPENSION, THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY THAT VEHICLE WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. PROBLEM HAS CAUSED EXCESSIVE WEAR OF FRONT TIRES. ALSO, VIBRATION IN FRONT END WHEN DRIVING OVER 60 MPH. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED DEALER, DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AFTER A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. *AK *ML

PE-00-020; ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON A FORD, RANGER 2000, FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRE SIZE P245/75R16, DOT NUMBER W2701RF419. CONSUMER NOTED ALL FOUR TIRES HAVE DEVELOPED CRACKS AROUND THE SIDEWALL AND ACROSS THE TREAD AREA. *AK *SLC
WHILE CHECKING TIRES NOTICED CRACKS. TIRES ON THIS MAKE/MODEL WERE NOT UNDER RECALL #P245/75R16. THE TIRES WERE FIRESTONE RADIAL ATX. *AK
I HAVE THE 16" FIRESTONE TIRES NOT UNDER RECALL, HOWEVER IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT AFTER LEARNING OF THE RECALL I CHECKED THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE TIRES OF MY NEW VEHICLE COLD. RIGHT FRONT AT 34.5 PSI, RIGHT REAR AT 33.5 PSI,LEFT FRONT AT 32.5 PSI, AND LEFT REAR AT 32 PSI. THE TIRES SHOULD HAVE BEEN INFLATED TO 30 PSI. IT WOULD APPEAR THAT FORD DOES NOT CONTROL THE INFLATION OF THE TIRES CORRECTLY.
I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM MARTIN INGLIS, VP FORD NORTH AMERICA, STATING MY "2000 RANGER WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL". TODAY I HAD TO CHANGE MY LEFT REAR WILDERNESS AT P245/75R16- DOT W270 AS IT WAS FLAT. WHEN THE SPARE WAS LOWERED DOWN FOR THE FIRST TIME, I NOTICED IT WAS A RADIAL ATX P235/75R15. ON THE BACK OF MR. INGLIS'S LETTER OF 8.17.00 IT STATES ALL P235/75R15 TIRES WERE RECALLED. PERHAPS, OTHER FORD OWNERS WHO RECEIVED THAT LETTER MIGHT WANT TO CHECK THEIR SPARES. COUNTING THE CURRENT RANGER, IS HAS BEEN MY FOURTH. I'VE OWNED 94', 96', 98' AND 00' RANGERS, I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED AS MANY PROBLEMS WITH THEM AS I HAVE WITH THE 00' MODEL YEAR. THE CRUISE CONTROL STILL OPERATES LIKE IN THE 96' AND 98' MODEL BUT THE CRUISE CONTROL KEYS NO LONGER LIGHT UP, SO AT NIGHT I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT EACH OF THE FOUR BUTTONS IS SUPPOSED TO DO. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED THAT ALL THE COMONENTS WERE THERE LIGHT BULBS WIRES ETC....EXCEPT THAT A POSITIVE FEED TO THE LIGHTS ON THE BUTTONS WAS NOT SUPLIED AND THIS WAS A "NEW" FEATURE ON THE 00' MODEL YEAR. I THINK IS AN OUTRAGE THAT SUCH A "COOL" OPTION WHICH ACTUALLY HAS A PURPOSE HAS BEEN DELETED. MY OTHER PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE IS THE TRANSFER CASE, IT FAILED AT 500 MILES OF OPERATION THE TRUCK WAS LESS THEN A MONTH OLD!!!, I WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER HAD I USED THE 4X4 THING COULD HAVE BEEN UGLY!!!..I HOPE IS JUST AN ISOLATED INCIDENT!!!. ALSO I'M HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE, SOMETIMES WHEN PUTTING THE TRUCK IN DRIVE OR REVERSE FROM A COMPLETE STOP IT STALLS....IT JUST DIES!!!!!...USUALLY I HAVE TO CRANK IT A FEW SECONDS BEFORE IT STARTS, ALSO A FEW TIMES THE IDLE SPEED HAS INCREASED FROM UNDER 1000RPM'S TO OVER 2000RPM'S WHILE THE TRUCK IS IN IDLE AND WARMED UP, WHAT IS CAUSING THIS I DO NOT KNOW.
THE FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT (22570R15) TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE AND OUT OF ROUND CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO FEEL AS IS IF IT WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. *MJS
THE MANUFACTURER INSTALLED A FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT SIZE P225/70R15 SPARE TIRE ON THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER THE CERTIFICATION LABEL SPECIFIES TIRE SIZE P215/75R15 ONLY. THE CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE FIVE RECALL (00T-005) FIRESTONE TIRES THAT HAVE BEEN REPLACED. *MJS

SEATBELT WILL "LOCK UP" WHEN BRAKE IS APPLIED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING. THIS PROPOSES A HAZARD AS THIS OCCURS AS MERGING INTO TRAFFRIC ONTO HIGHWAY. BRAKE IS APPLIED AND YOU LEAN FORWARD TO LOOK FOR ONCOMING TRAFFRIC AND HAVE TO HOLD SHOULDER PORTION AWAY MANUALLY FROM BODY IN ORDER TO LEAN FORWARD. TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A "COMMON COMPLAINT" BUT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THIS WAY. THIS IS A VERY INCONVIENANT SITUATION, AND AT TIMES I FEEL DANGEROUS, ALSO.*AK
A REMOTE START WAS INSTALLED ON VEHICLE, HOWEVER WHEN TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT, THE BATTERY WAS DEAD, THE CONSUMER JUMP STARTED THE VEHICLE AND WAS DRIVING IN ICY CONDITIONS WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED AND HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HIM, CARTOYS WAS THE COMPANY THAT DID THE INSTALLATION, THEY REFUNDED THE CONSUMER FOR THE PRICE OF THE REMOTE STARTER. *SLC

FIRESTONE HAS BEEN NOTIFIED.*AK FIRESTONE CLAIMS THE 16 INCH TIRES HAVE NO PROBLEM, BUT THE CONSUMER POINTS OUT TO THE CONTRARY. FURTHERMORE, THE CONSUMER SAYS THESE TIRES WERE DANGEROUS. *YH

SMOKE STARTED TO OBSTRUCT DRIVER'S VISION, CONSUMER PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD, AND WHEN EXITING VEHICLE CONSUMER NOTICED VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE UN VEHICLE. CONSUMER VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED, BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
CHROME COVER THAT IS MOUNTED AT A 40 DEGREE ANGLE WHICH PROTECTS ENGINE EQUIPMENT CAUSES VEHICLE TO LIFT WHEN DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS, AND RESULTING IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. CONSUMER TOOK COVER OFF AND WAS RELEIVED OF PROBLEM. *AK *SLC
