AIR BAG LIGHT WILL COME ON AND STAY ON INTERMITTENTLY FOR ABOUT 20-30 MINTUES BEFORE GOING OUT. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER CANNOT FIND CAUSE OF PREOBLEM.*AK
CONSUMER FELL ASLEEP AT WHEEL AND HIT A TREE. SPEED UNKNOWN. VEHICLE STRUCK TREE DIRECTLY IN CENTER OF HOOD. UPON IMPACT, DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. UNKNOWN IF AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER IMPACT. FORD DEALER WAS CONTACTED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK
I PURCHASED A NEW 2001 FORD RANGE IN NOV OF THAT YEAR. THE TRUCK CAME WITH A HARD FIBERGLASS BED COVER. IT HAS A LOCKING SYSTEM AND A SAFETY LATCH AT THE INSIDE OF THE TOP. THIS SAFETY LATCH FAILED WHEN I WAS IN THE BED AND THE TOP SHUT DOWN. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE SAID IT IS NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THIS AS THEY CLAIM IT IS AN AFTERMARKET ACCESSORY. THE TRUCK WAS BROUGHT INTO THE DEALER BEFORE THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY WAS UP. THE TOP IS LISTED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL AND IT WAS PART OF THE TRUCK AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. IF MY KID'S HAD BEEN LOCKED INSIDE THE SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE. *JB
MY 2001 FORD RANGER 3.0 LITER AUTOMATIC HAS A LOT OF PRE-IGNITION UNDER LOAD, REGARDLESS OF OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE. I HAVE HAD 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS SAY THERE IS NO WAY TO CHANGE THE TIMING TO RELIEVE THE SYMPTOMS. AN INDEPENDANT SHOP TOLD ME THAT THAT THERE WAS A FORD TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ADDRESSING THE ISSUE. HE SAID THAT THE PROBLEM COMES FROM A CONTROL MODULE THAT CHANGES THE ENGINE TIMING AS NEEDED FOR MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE. IS THERE SUCH A CURE FOR ME? *JB
THE DRIVERS SIDE SHOULDER BELT FIRST LOCKED UP, THEN IT PULLED ALL THE WAY OUT AND WILL NOT RETRACT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY DID NOT TAKE THE REAR DOOR APART TO SEE WHAT CAUSED THE TROUBLE. MY CHILDREN RECEIVED A PHONE CALL IN EARLY JULY THAT THE PART WOULD BE IN AROUND 23 JULY. TO THIS DATE, AUG 7, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A CALL YET. I HAVE CALLED TO LOCAL FORD DEALERS TO FIND EVEN AN OFF COLOR BELT, BUT NONE ARE TO BE HAD. I FELL UNSECURE, AND EVEN GUILTY DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WITHOUT A SEATBELT SINCE IT IS A LAW IN THIS STATE, AND I HAVE TO DRIVE ON AN ARMY POST WHICH IS THE LAW THERE ALSO. I HAVE ALSO TRIED EVERTHING I CAN TO GET THIS FIXED. I EVEN TOOK THE DOOR APART TO SEE IF THE MECHANISM COULD BE FIXED (WHICH WAS MORE THAN WHAT THEY DID AT THE DEALER), BUT IT IS UN-REPAIRABLE. (I HAVE 20+YEARS EXPERIENCE AS AN ARMY MECHANIC) I WOULD HAVE EVEN TRIED TO SWITCH THE BELT WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE, BUT IT WILL NOT WORK (THE TRUCK IS A 4-DOOR AND WILL NOT SWAP OUT). TO FOLLOW UP FROM A PREVIOUS POST ON OR ABOUT AUG 8, PERTAINING TO THE DRIVERS SEAT BELT. I WENT TO THE FORD SERVICE REPRESENATIVE YESTERDAY, 13 AUG, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE BELT WOULD BE IN TOMORROW (TODAY 14 AUG). AND I DID NOT RECEIVE A SEAT BELT. THIS HAS GONE ON FOR OVER 2 MONTHS, AND I STILL FEEL INSECURED ABOUT HAVING TO DRIVE WITHOUT A SEATBELT. PLEASE REPLY TO LET ME KNOW IF ANYTHING CAN BE DONE. THE CONSUMER HAD PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE ACCELERATION. IT HAPPENED AT DIFFERENT TIMES. DEALER WAS CONTACTED, AND STATED THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLE. *AK CONSUMER ADDED, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED BEFORE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY. *TT *JB

WHILE IN MOTION CONSUME WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION. CONSUMER SUSTAINED INJURIES(WHIPLASH, BACK AND LEG). THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. CONSUMER FEELS SOME COMPENSATION SHOULD BE AWARDED TO HIM. *JG
THIS COMPLAINT IS ABOUT A FORD RANGER EDGE SUPERCAB 4X4. I HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK BARELY OVER 2 YEARS AND IT HAS 45,000 MILES ON IT. ABOUT ONE YEAR AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE I STARTED HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, THE "OVERDRIVE OFF" LIGHT FLASHING AND FUNNY SHIFTS FROM FIRST INTO SECOND AS WELL AS A HESITANT ACCELERATION FOLLOWED BY A SMALL JERK. I TOOK IT IN TO HAVE IT FIXED AND APPARENTLY IT WAS. ABOUT 3 MONTHS LATER THE TRANSMISSION STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN IN THE SAME FASHION. I TOOK IT IN AND ONCE AGAIN THOUGHT IT WAS FIXED UNTIL A FEW MONTHS LATER IT STARTED DOING THE SAME THING. BY THIS TIME SINCE I THOUGHT THE TRUCK WAS FINALLY FIXED I DECIDED TO ADD A 4" SUSPENSION LIFT AND 33" TIRES. WHEN I TOOK IT IN THEY TOLD ME I NEED EITHER A NEW TRANSMISSION OR TO HAVE THIS ONE REBUILT AND THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD COVER THE COST. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK IN THE SHOP AND TORN APART THEY CALLED AND TOLD ME THE WARRANTY CO. DID NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THE REBUILT TRANSMISSION BECAUSE OF THE "EXTENSIVE SUSPENSION MODS" AND LARGER TIRES. LET ME REMIND YOU, I HAD IT IN 2 TIMES BEFORE THE LIFT WAS PUT ON FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT YET BEEN FIXED. AFTER A BIT OF ARGUING I DECIDED THAT I WASN'T GOING TO WIN AND THAT I NEED A TRUCK. SO I AM NOW PAYING $150 A MONTH FOR THE $3000+ FOR THE WORK AND REBUILT TRANSMISSION. NOW, AFTER ABOUT 4 MONTHS AFTER THE WORK, I AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM YET AGAIN...CAN SOMEONE PLEASE ADVISE ME ON HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM ??? THANKS, AARON. *NLM

I WAS HIT BY A SEMI TRUCK WHO RAD A RED LIGHT ON A TWO WAY HWY THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS TURNED OFF. HE HIT THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THERE WAS HARDLY ANYTHING LEFT OF THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK AND HE WAS GOING OVER 55 MPH AND MY AIRBAG DIDN'T GO OFF. I NOTIFIED FORD BY EMAIL AND THEY WERE NOT CONCERNED SAID THERE WASNOTHING WAS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 65MPH, LEFT REAR TIRE EXPLODED, SIDEWALL ON OUTSIDE WAS IN PIECES, TIRE CAME OFF THE RIM. TIRE SIZE P225/70R15, DOT # UNAVAILABLE. *AK CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE AND PIECES OF THE TIRE BEGAN FLYING EVERYWHERE, WHEN CONSUMER STARTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SWERVE, CONSUMER HAS REPLACED ALL 5 TIRES.*SLC
WHEN VEHICLE IS AT A COMPLETE STOP, AND CONSUMER STEPS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT MOVE FORWARD ALL THE WAY UNTIL IT HITS THE FLOOR, VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO DEALER 5 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND HAS REPLACED VARIOUS PARTS IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM, BUT PROBLEM STILL OCCURS, THE UNEVEN FRONT BRAKING PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED. THE PROBLEM WITH THE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR HAS NOT. *JG *AK
WHILE AT A STOP ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK BRIEFLY, ENGINE RACED AND RPMS WENT TO 4000.*AK
I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS OUT OF THIS TRUCK. ITSTARTED OFF BY HAVING A BAD IGNITION PEICE TO WHERE SOME DAYS IT WOULD START, SOME IT WOULD NOT. NEXT, THE AIR CONDITIONER LEAKED AND FILLED UP MY PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR BOARD ON A TRIP TO THE BEACH. THEN THE ENGINE BEGINS TO STALL. IT DOES NOT ALWAYS STALL AT THE SAME SPEED OR TEMP. OR ANYTHING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY TRIED FIXING IT, NOTHING HAPPENED SO I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN, THE STILL COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO THEY INSTALLED A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE WHICH WAS SUPPOSE TO GIVE THE DEALER FEEDBACK ON THE PROBLEM, WHICH IT DID NOT. SO I GOT THE TRUCK BACK AND THE SAME DAY IT DID IT TWICE. IT STILL DOES THIS ABOUT ONCE A DAY. WHICH DAY WILL BE THE DAY I AM MERGING ACROSS 4 OR 5 LANES OF TRAFFIC AND THE ENGINE STALLS AND GET RUN OVER LITERALLY?? AFTER ALL THIS IS STILL GOING ON I LEFT MY HOUSE TO GO TO WORK AND I MERGED INTO TRAFFIC, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRUCK DIES, LOSES ALL POWER, THE CHECK GAUGE LIGHT APPEARS AND THE OIL PRESSURE DROPS TO NOTHING. I DROVE IT TO WORK AD IT DID IT AGAIN SO I GOT FORD TO TOW TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID IT WAS JUST PART OF THE COMPUTER, AND IT WAS NO BIG DEAL. IT IS A BIG DEAL WHEN YOU ARE IN MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND YOUR VEHICLE LOSES ALL POWER. THESE ARE ALL VERY SERIOUS CONCERNS, I AM A CAPTAIN OF A FIRE DEPT. AND SAFETY IS MY #1 PRIORITY, NOT JUST FOR MY SELF BUT FOR EVERYONE AROUND ME. HOPEFULLY SOMETHING WILL GET DONE BEFORE THE TRUCK STALLS AT ABUSY INTERSECTION OR ON THE INTERSTATE RUNNING 70 MPH AND SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED.THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.*AK
FORD COMPANY TOOK OFF A FIRESTONE TIRE AND REPLACED IT WITH B.F.GOODRICH OF A DIFFERENT SIZE. CURRENTLY TIRE IS TURNING MORE RESOLUTIONS THAN VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED TO TURN. *AK CONSUMER STATED THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY REPLACED THE FIRESTONE TIRE SIZE 16? WITH B.F. GOODRICH SPARE TIRE SIZE 15?, THE TIRE WILL NOT FIT IN THE SPARE COMPARTMENT AND LEAVING HIM TO DRIVE WITH ONE 15? AND THREE 16?. CONSUMER IS STATING THAT THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR HIS SAFETY. *YD

SPARE TIRE IS NOT THE SAME SIZE AS REGULAR TIRES, REGULAR TIRES ARE SIZE 24575R16, AND SPARE TIRE SIZE IS 23575R15. OWNERS MANUAL STATES THAT ALL TIRES SHOULD BE THE SAME SIZE. *AK *SLC
I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON ROUTE 5 IN SOUTHERN MARYLAND. I HAD JSU GONE THROUGH ST MARY'S CITY AND WAS SPEDING UP TO ABOUT 40 WHEN I HEARD A RUMBLING THAT SOUNDED LIKE A DOOR HAD COME PARTIALLY OPEN. MY TURNOFF WAS IN A COUPLE OF MILES SO I JUST IGNORED IT. AFTER ABOUT 2 MILES THE LEFT REAR SIDE LURCHED DOWN AND I HEARD THE RUMBLING OF A FLAT TIRE. I PULLED OFF IN ABOUT A 1/4 MILE (COAST TO STOP AND PULLED OFF) AND THE ENTIRE OUTER SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY SHREADED. I WENT TO MY LOCAL FIRESTONE DEALER (9400 MAIN STREET IN FAIRFAX VA) AND HE SAID THIS IS NORMAL FOR A TIRE. SOMEHOW I DON'T THINK A COMPLETE SIDE WALL DISENGERATION IS NORMAL UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED TWICE FOR FRONT BRAKES PULLING HARD TO THE LEFT FIXED TWICE AND DROPPED OF AGAIN FOR THE THIRD TIME ON 12/08/01. I AM VERY CONCERNED WITH THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE AND THE FAULTY BRAKING SYSTEM: ROTORS, PADS REPLACED TWICE , HOSES ALL HAVE BEEN REPLACED PRIOR TO 12/08/01. *AK

PROBLEM 1- VEHICLE REGULARLY STALLS OR IDLES SO LOW POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES ARE LOST. PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN SLOWING FOR AND ENTERING CORNERS AND WHEN COMING TO A STOP. LOCAL DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THIS IS NORMAL AND TO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT. PROBLEM 2- CLUTCH DOES NOT ENGAGE WHEN PEDAL IS RELEASED. AFTER A MOMENT IT RELEASES ON ITS OWN ACCORD AND TRUCK JERKS FORWARD VIOLENTLY. CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED ONCE. *AK
I'M DRIVING A LEMON THAT I PURCHASED FROM CRAIN FORD IN BENTON AR. AFTER 20 MONTHS OF HASSLES FROM CRAIN AND FORD MOTOR, I AM STILL DRIVING A FAULTY VEHICLE THAT THE MAKER CAN'T DIAGNOSE, YET I'M TOLD THAT IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. FORD CLOSED MY CASE AND NEITHER PARTY HAS BEEN HELPFUL AT ALL.
WHEN APPLING BRAKES, PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND CAUSES VEHICLE TO PULSATE, BRAKES DO NOT HOLD. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK THE CONSUMER APPLIED BRAKES FOR EMERGENCY, BUT THE VEHICLE WENT 20 FT BEFORE COMING TO A STOP DUE TO BOOSTER PUMP FAILUR. *YH
A PIECE OF TIRE FLEW OFF AND MADE A LOUD THUD SOUND IN THE WHEEL-WELL. TIRE THEN BEGAN TO FLY APART WHILE DRIVING AT 65MPH. TRUCK BEGAN TO SWERVE OFF THE ROAD WHEN I BEGAN TO APPLY THE BRAKES. TIRE CAME OFF THE RIM BEFORE WE COULD STOP. BELL FORD AND FIRESTONE DEALER TOLD ME THE TIRE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AS IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THEY CALLED IT A "ROAD HAZARD." "HAZARDOUS TIRES" WOULD BE MORE ACCURATE. ANOTHER COUPLE BROUGHT IN A TIRE JUST LIKE OURS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WE WERE BOTH TURNED AWAY. WE HAVE REPLACED ALL FIVE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF THE SITUATION AND THE DANGER WE FELT. I HAVE HAD FLAT TIRES ON THE FREEWAY BEFORE, BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD A TIRE DISINTEGRATE INTO HUNDREDS OF PIECES OR COME OFF THE RIM LIKE THAT. DT: THE BED IWAS TWISTED,FOUND OUT IT WAS DROPPED ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AT THE FACTORY. THE WIRING HARNESS WAS PINCHED, FOUND OUT THAT AFTER DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE DOORS POPPED OPEN. TOOK TO BODY SHOP, THEY DID NOT TOUCH ANYTHING, THEY MEASURED AGAINST FORD SPEC'S. THIS IS IN COURT. *AK

VEHICLE STALLS WHEN MAKING EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT TURNS. ENGINE SHUTS DOWN , CAUSING VEHICLE LOSE POWER. NO ACCIDENTS SO FAR. *AK
I HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK FOR ONLY ONE YEAR AND HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS. FIRST THE TRANSMISSION WENT BEACAUSE IT WOULD NOT GO PAST 2ND GEAR AND THE OVERDRIVE LIGHT WAS FLASHING. IT WAS FOUND TO BE INTERNAL PARTS AND EXTERNAL WIRING OF THE TRANSMISSION. THAT SAME DAY THE ALTERNATOR WENT AND LEFT ME WITH A DEAD BATTERY. I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO THE DEALER ABOUT 3 TIMES FOR ROUGH IDLE AND HAVE BEEN TURNED AWAY SAYING THE CANNOT FEEL ANYTHING AND THAT NOT TO WORRY BECAUSE ITS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. TWICE I HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR THE FRONT SUSPENSION DUE TO A VIBRATION TO THE STEERING WHEEL AND TRUCK. ALL ROTORS WERE TURNED AND THE FRONT WAS REALLINED. ALSO THE TRUCK SEEMS TO GO THROUGH GAS A BIT TOO QUICKLY, JUST ABOUT A BIT OVER A QUARTER TANK FOR EVERY 10-15 MILES.*AK

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 01V227001 (SEAT BELTS:FRONT:BUCKLE ASSEMBLY). HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE RECALL WAS CLOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 147,170.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY WHEN IT WAS FOGGY, COLD, RAINY OR DAMP. THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE SEALS ON THE REAR AXLE LEAKED FLUID ONTO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH IN 2009 THAT THE CONTACT BELIEVED WAS DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 250 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
PASSENGER-SIDE SEAT BELT BECOMES UN-BUCKLED AT RANDOM TIMES. THE BUCKLE INITIALLY ENGAGES AND SEEMS TO PERFORM CORRECTLY, BUT AT ANY MOMENT IT MAY DISENGAGE FROM THE LATCH. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO FIVE STAR FORD ON 7/24/01. THEY "TESTED" THE BELT LATCH AND REPORTED IT WAS OK. THEIR "TEST" IS DEFECTIVE. THE BELT CONTINUES TO BECOME UNLATCHED AT RANDOM TIMES. I RETURNED TO FIVE STAR FORD ON 8/21/01 AND COMPLAINED LOTS AND DEMANDED A REPLACEMENT LATCH. THEY INFORMED ME OF THE RECALL, AND TOLD ME THEY ARE ORDERING A REPLACEMENT. I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY DIDN'T REPLACE THE LATCH WHEN I FIRST REPORTED THE PROBLEM IN JULY! THEIR "TEST" DOES NOT DETECT THE RANDOM-BEHAVIOR FAILURES THAT OCCUR WITH THIS SEAT BELT. THIS SHOULD BE A TOTAL RECALL AND REPLACEMENT, WHETHER THEIR "TEST" DICTATES IT OR NOT!
