THE VEHICLE WILL QUIT RUNNING WHEN I AM DRIVING IT, YOU CAN BE DRIVING AT FIFTY MILE AND HOUR BAND THEN IT QUIT RUNNING.TOOK IT TO FORD THEY SAY THERE NO RECALL AND THEY CANT FIND ANYTHING WRONG BUT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG IT WILL JUST QUIT RUNNING WITH NO WARNING.
SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT ENGINE STARTED RUNNING ROUGH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS FLASHING. I TOOK OFF AND IT WAS NOT RUNNING WELL AND COULDN'T GET SPEED GOING UNTIL AROUND A 1/4 MILE DOWN THE ROAD. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES ALWAYS AT IDLE SPEEDS, ONCE I GET IT MOVING AND GO UP TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO GO AWAY BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. I HAVE HAD THE CODE READ AND THE LIKELY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE CYLINDER HEAD ASSEMBLY. THE CODE WAS P0316 WHICH INDICATES TOO MANY MISFIRES AFTER STARTUP AND CODE P0304 WHICH IS CYLINDER NUMBER 4 MISFIRE. NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAD DRIVERS BEHIND ME HONKING AND FLASHING LIGHTS BUT THE TRUCK JUST WOULDN'T GO OVER ABOUT 5 MPH UNTIL I WAS DOWN THE ROAD A BIT. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IN APRIL OF 2018 AND IT HAS INTERMITTENTLY DONE IT SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN WITH THE LATEST TIME BEING YESTERDAY 11/5/18. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE ARE KNOWN ISSUES WITH THE HEADS ON THIS FORD RANGER. I HAVE CONTACTED THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE AND SEEMED TO HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANYWHERE WITH IT.
FORD 4.0 SOHC V6 TIMING CHAIN HYDRAULIC TENSIONER, TIMING CHAIN CASSETTE AND TIMING CHAIN FAILURE PROVIDING NO START SITUATION. FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. IT IS WIDESPREAD ACROSS MODELS WITH THIS ENGINE, RANGERS, EXPLORERS AND MUSTANGS. STARTING WITH MODEL YEAR 2001 WHEN THEY BEGAN USING THE 4.0 SOHC UNTIL END OF PRODUCTION OF THIS ENGINE, 2011 THEY SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR LOW MILEAGE FAILURES. MY VEHICLE HAS LESS THEN 70,000 MILES. TIMING CHAIN SHOULDN'T FAIL AND DEALERSHIP SHOULD PAY FOR REPAIR. I WAS PARKED, WENT TO START IT AND IT BACKFIRED AND WOULDN'T START AND HASN'T SINCE. DIAGNOSED AND DETERMINED IT WAS TIMING CHAIN. AGAIN, THE 4.0 HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM FROM START OF PRODUCTION ACROSS MANY MODELS AND YEARS. FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE SINCE THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, CHECKED ALL OF THE GAUGES, AND DROVE HOME. THE DEALER (HAMPTON FORD HYUNDAI, 177 LAFAYETTE RD, NORTH HAMPTON, NH 03862) STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR SERVICE BULLETINS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V788000 (AIR BAGS) BUT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
FUEL INERTIAL CUT-OFF SWITCH ACTIVATES RANDOMLY, USUALLY ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR. RESULT IS SUDDEN UNEXPECTED LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. CAN HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN OR ON THE FREEWAY. DOES NOT MATTER IF THE VEHICLE IS MOVING FAST OR SLOW. THE DEVICE CAN BE RESET BY PUSHING A BUTTON BUT THE DEVICE IS NOT ACCESSIBLE FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE WHILE DRIVING. DANGEROUS AS THE LOSS OF POWER IS TOTAL, IMMEDIATE, AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE IS CURRENTLY NO RECALL FOR THIS ITEM BUT I SEE FROM YOUR WEBSITE AND OTHER WEBSITES THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER PEOPLE.

2006 FORD RANGER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE DEFECTIVE CYLINDER HEADS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED ACCORDING TO FORDS TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 05-26-3 THE ENGINES WERE BUILT AT THE FACTORY WITH DEFECTIVE HEADS. IF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE HEADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AS IT WAS EXPLAINED TO HIM BY A MECHANIC AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. THE CONSUMER STATED IT APPEARED TO BE DEFECTIVE MATERIALS IN THE HEADS, WHICH REQUIRED THE HEADS TO BE REMOVED AND SCRAPPED, ALONG WITH THE HEAD GASKETS. THE HEADS APPEARED TO BE MADE OF SOFT IRON, WHERE THE BASE METAL WAS PERHAPS NOT HEAT TREATED. THE ESTIMATES FOR THE REPAIR OF THE ENGINE, WERE BETWEEN $3,000-$6,000 DEPENDING ON WHAT WAS NEEDED TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE ENGINE MISFIRED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROUGH IDLE AND STALL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TEST RESULTS CONCLUDED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A TUNE-UP. THE TUNE-UP WAS PERFORMED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED, CONCLUDING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEED OF A TUNE-UP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER SERVICED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
VEHICLE STALLED IN MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AT 46,00 MILES AND WAS FOUND TO HAVE LEAN CODES P0171 AND P0174-THEY REPLACED THE INTERTIA SWITCH. VEHICLE WENT IN FOR SERVICE AND A PO306 CYLINDER MISFIRE, BUT PAPERWORK STATED COULD NOT DUPLICATE. AFTER REPAIR, VEHICLE KEPT GIVING ME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IF I FILLED THE TANK UP WITH GAS, BUT WOULD CLEAR ITSELF BEFORE I WOULD GET TO THE DEALER. ONE DAY I AM MAKEING A LEFT HAND TURN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON ABOUT 5 MINUTES BEFORE. THE FORD RANGER SPUTTERS ACROSS THE INTERSECTION AND THEN SPEED UP VERY FAST. II WAS LUCKY NOT TO GET SMASHED,AS THE LIGHT CHANGED WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS SPUTTERING. I IMMEDIATLY TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY TRUSTED AUTO TECHNICIAN (NOT A FORD DEALERSHIP)WHO TOLD ME I HAD PO CODES PO304 AND PO316.THE TECH PROVIDED ME WITH TSB NUMBER: 05-26-3 DATE OF ISSUE 12/31/05-(THEY KNEW MY VEHICLE WOULD FAIL BEFORE I PURCHASED IT!) THE TSB STATES 3.0L-2V VULCAN ENGINE. MIL ON VARIOUS MISFIRE RELATED DTC'S P0300 - PO306 AND P0316 ISSUE 12/31/05 MY 2006 RANGER WITH 69,000 MI DISPLAYS ALL FOR THE ISSUES INDICATED ON THIS TSB. THIS MALFUNCTION CAUSES THE MIL LAMP TO CONTINUALLY DISPLAY TROUBLE CODES P0302 AND P0316. BECAUSE OF THIS, MY VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS THE CA STATE EMISSIONS INSPECTION. THE TSB STATES THAT IF DIAGNOSTIC TESTS INDICATE AN ENGINE EXHAUST VALVE SEAT RECESSION, THE CYLINDER HEADS WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH THE NEW SERVICE HEADS AND IS TO BE COVERED UNDER EMISSION WARRANTY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. PACFIC FORD REDID THE DIAGNOSIS AND STATED THE ISSUE WAS OUTLINED IN THE TSB. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT COVERED BY EITHER THE NEW VEHICLE OR EMISSIONS WARRANTY COVERAGE. I CALLED THE FORD CRC AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO ASSIST WITH PAYMENT TO CORRECT THEIR DEFECTIVE PART. THE FAILURE IS NOT BEING CORRECTED AT THIS TIME. *TR
FORD VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STOPPED RUNNING WITH FULL TANK OF FUEL. WOULD NOT RESTART, HAD TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. REPLACED FUEL PUMP FOR $606.99. DROVE ABOUT A MILE AND SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. FOUND THAT THE FUEL INERTIA SHUT OFF SWITCH NEEDED RE-SETTING. BOUGHT A FUEL PUMP I DIDN'T NEED. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES THIS YEAR AGAIN. FORD DEALER SAID I NEEDED A FUEL PUMP. (35,000 MILES) AGAIN, NO WAY. THE REPLACEMENT PART (INERTIA SWITCH) MOVES THE SWITCH FROM PASSENGER FLOOR AREA TO SIDE KICK PANEL. THE DESIGN CHANGE SHOWS DESIGN FLAW. FORD SHOULD REPLACE FOR NO COST. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN ENGINE DIES.

I CALLED THE FORD CONSUMER HOTLINE & RECEIVED THE SAME INFORMATION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE STALLED INTERMITTENTLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURES WERE CAUSED BY THE HEAD IN THE ENGINE. THE DEALER IS AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT WILL NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.

I BOUGHT MY TRUCK BRAND NEW LAST MONTH ON APRIL 18TH I HAVE JUST OVER 1000 MILES ON IT AND WITHIN THE FIRST 400 MILES I HAD PROBLEMS WITH STARTING THE TRUCK, WHEN I TURN THE KEY MOST OF THE TIME IT STARTS, BUT OCCASIONALLY IF I LET GO OF THE KEY ABOUT THE TIME IT NORMALLY STARTS THE ENGINE DIES AND ONCE WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO START IT AGAIN I HEARD THE STARTER MAKE THE NOISE LIKE IT DOES IF YOU TURN THE KEY AND THE ENGINE IS ALREADY RUNNING. ALSO MY TRANSMISSION WILL OCCASIONALLY JERK WHEN IT SHIFTS GEARS. I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT AT AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TECH DROVE IT AND THE SHOP MANAGER DROVE IT TOO AND THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. I AM STILL HAVING THIS PROBLEM, I WOULD HATE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CONTINUE AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES AND THEN I AM STUCK WITH A HUGE BILL TO FIX IT. *JB
