Frame prematurely rotting out in critical areas near fuel tank/middle of vehicle frame
THE REAR FRAME CROSSMEMBER RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE THE SPARE TIRE IT SUPPORTS ALMOST FELL OUT. I NOTICED IT WAS HANGING ABOUT 6' LOW SO I CAUGHT IT BEFORE IT FELL. THE ENTIRE PART IS HORRIBLY CORRODED. NOTE THAT THE WOOD WAS TEMPORARILY INSTALLED TO HOLD THE STEEL UP TO DRIVE HOME.

THE FRAME AND BED IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. SO MUCH SO THAT THE ONE OF THE LEAF SPRINGS BROKE LOOSE AND CAME THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE BED WHILE DRIVING DOWN A STRAIGHT STRETCH OF ROAD. THE TRUCK IS NOW COMPLETELY NOT DRIVABLE. I HAVE HEARD SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME MAKE/MODEL/YEAR TRUCK. EVEN FROM PEOPLE WHERE THEIR CITIES DON'T SALT THE ROADS IN THE WINTER.
THE FRAME ON THIS 2006 FORD RANGER IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED GOT A FUEL CAP LOOSE WARNING LIGHT ON DASH BOARD. PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND CHECKED AND IT WAS TIGHT. TOOK THE 2006 FORD RANGER TO THE REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CROSS FRAME THAT SUPPORTS THE SPARE TIRE UNDER THE BED HAS RUSTED FREE AT BOTH ENDS! IT WAS FORTUNATE THAT THE CABLE THAT LIFTS THE TIRE INTO PLACED WAS STILL ATTACHED. HAD THE TIRE COME LOOSE IT WOULD MOST LIKELY CAUSED THE REAR END TO LIFT UP AND AT 60 MPH IN MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC THAT WOULD BE SPECTACULAR! THE REASON FOR THE WARNINGLIGHT WAS THA AS THE FRAME BROKE LOOSE IT CRCKED THE CONNECTION TO THE EMISSIONS CANISTER THAT IS MOUNTED ON THE CORSS FRAMEMEMBER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE GETTING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 140,000. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED REPAIRING THE VEHICLE WOULD COST MORE THAN VEHICLE'S WORTH.

TAKATA RECALL ON MY FORD RANGER UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK WHERE THE FRAME IS IT HAS BEEN COMPLETELY EATEN UP BY RUST. MY SPAIR TIRE HAS FALLEN OFF BECAUSE THE FRAME IS COVERED IN RUST. AND THE MAIN BODY FRAME RUST OFF AND IT'S COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED UNDER THE BED. MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN I LOST THE SPAIR TIRE
RUST. SPRING SHACKLES RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING SPRINGS TO DISLODGE AND RUB BODY BED. BED OF TRUCK RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING HOLES. RUNNING BOARDS HAVE SEVER RUST AND NEED REPLACING. VEHICLE HAS 60,000 MILES AND UNDER CARRIAGE HAS RUSTED HOLES IN FRAME.

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT A SHOP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENTIRE SUBFRAME WAS SEVERELY RUSTED, AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED THROUGH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
THE ENTIRE REAR CROSS MEMBER THAT CONNECTS THE FORE AND AFT RUNNING FRAME MEMBERS ROTTED OUT AND DROPPED OFF THE TRUCK. THIS INCLUDES THE SPARE TIRE ENCLOSURE, THE CHAIN WINCH AND SPARE TIRE -- BROKE AWAY FROM THE TRUCK AS IT WENT OVER A BUMP. WITH IT WENT THE FUEL EMISSION CONTROL TUBING THAT NOW REGISTERS AS A FAULT ON THE DASH BOARD. THIS WAS A SERIOUS FAULT AND FORTUNATELY IT OCCURRED ON A RURAL ROAD INSTEAD OF A BUSY HIGHWAY WHERE IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE TO ANY FOLLOWING VEHICLE. ALARMINGLY, WHEN SPEAKING TO MY MECHANIC, HE SAYS THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON. IN FACT, HE HAS REPAIRED MANY FRAMES ON RANGERS -- SPARE TIRES FALLING OFF, BUMPERS FALLING OFF AND SO ON.. INDEED, THERE IS A BUSINESS WHO SPECIALIZES IN REPAIR FRAME PARTS TO REPAIR ROTTEN RANGER FRAMES. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. THE ENTIRETY OF THE REMAINDER OF THE TRUCK SHOWS LITTLE OR NO RUST BUT AFT OF THE REAR WHEELS IS TURNING TO SWISS CHEESE. WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN TOWING A TRAILER WHEN A BUMPER FALLS OFF?. APPARENTLY, FORD HAS KNOWN OF THIS PROBLEM FOR YEARS AND HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT. THE ENCLOSED PHOTO SHOWS WHERE THE CROSS MEMBER AND TIRE ENCLOSURE USED TO BE, THE TORN MEMBER AND THE CORRUGATED FLEX TUBING FOR THE EMISSION CONTROL WITH A PIECE OF THE FORMER SPARE TIRE CARRIER ATTACHED.
FRAME IS RUSTED OUT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. SPARE TIRE HOLDER RUSTED OUT. TIRE WOULD HAVE FALLEN OUT. CROSS MEMBER RUSTED OUT. WE HAVE A METALWORKING SHOP AND WILL WELD AND REPAIR OURSELVES AT GREAT TIME AND EXPENSE. POINT OF RUSTOUT IS NEAR WHERE THE FRONT BRACKET IS TO HOLD THE SPRING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE REAR SPRING RAIL, MOUNTS AND SHACKLE WERE RUSTED PREVENTING HIM FROM PASSING STATE INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,508. PM
OF THE TWO REAR CROSS MEMBERS THAT SUPPORT THE GAS TANK ONE SIDE HAS COMPLETELY ROTTED TWO INCHES OF METAL AWAY. THE FORWARD ONE IS NEAR FAILURE THE REAR ONE COMPLETELY FAILED ONE SIDE.WILL PUT SOME SORT WEB STRAP SYSTEM SO THE TANK DON'T FALL OUT TILL WE GET WARMER WEATHER AND REMOVE THE BED TO INSPECT FRAME RAIL. A FRIEND OF MINE HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE REAR FRAME ASSEMBLY. THE REAR SPRING SHACKLES ARE NEAR FAILURE. *TR
PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2007 WITH 8K MILES AND HAD SOME RUST ON THE FRAME. NOW, 2013 I HAVE 24K MILES AND THE FRAMES IS COMPLETELY CORRODED AND MY BRAKES ARE FAILING DUE TO THE RUST. HAVE ALREADY SANDED THE FRAME AND PAINTED, BUT THE RUST COMES BACK. THIS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE PARTS CAN BREAK WHILE DRIVING. *TR

THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE SHOULDER AND ATTEMPTED TO SECURE THE TIRE BACK IN THE SUPPORTING RACK BY USING HANGERS AND ROPE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE CHASSIS FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,200.
THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT CAME ON AND WARNING BUZZER SOUNDED AND DOME LIGHT CAME ON TOO. AFTER DAYS OF REPLACING PARTS IN THE DOOR AND LUBE ADDED TO THE LATCHES IN BOTH THE MAIN DOOR AND SMALL DOOR THE SMALL DOOR LATCH WILL NOT STAY LATCHED !! KEEPING THE DOME LIGHT ON AND THE DOOR AJAR ON IN THE DASH. IT'S NOT THE LIGHT SWITCH THAT'S NOT WORKING IT TESTES GOOD AND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE DOOR LATCH IS DEFECTIVE IN THE SMALL DOOR, WON'T STAY LATCHED OR IN THE CLOSED POSITION , IT ON LATCHES ON IT'S OWN OR AFTER HITTING A SMALL HOLE OR BUMP IN THE ROAD .AND IT DON'T TAKE MUCH TO ON LATCH IT YOU CAN DO IT VERY EASY BY JUST GRABBING THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR AND PULL IT A LITTLE AND IT LETS GO!! NOT VERY SAFE AND VERY DANGEROUS I WOULD SAY IN A WRECK OR ROLL OVER IT WOULD FLY OPEN YOU WOULD BE THROWN FROM THE TRUCK I WOULD SAY!! THE SEATBELTS ARE ATTACHED TO THIS SMALL FOR YOU IN THE FRONT SEAT AND ANY BODY IN THE SMALL SEAT BEHIND YOU!! THIS SERIOUS AND FORD MADE TO RECALL THESE TRUCKS AND FIXED. *TR
