THE METHANOL GAS CAUSED THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK TO DETERIORATE AND DAMAGE THE GASKETS. ALSO THE GAS GAUAGE DID NOT REGISTER THE CORRECT LEVELS OF FUEL. CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
THE SPEEDOMETER READS INCORRECTLY AT SPEEDS OVER 50MPH, ESPECIALLY ON ROUGH ROADS. DEALER HAS REPLACED THE SPEEDOMETER TWICE, AND IS ABOUT TO REPLACE IT ONE MORE TIME. *AK

UPON ENCOUNTERING ONCOMING TRAFFIC APPLIED THE BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT THE FLOOR, CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK

WHEN THE AIR TEMPERATURE IS EXTREMELY HOT AND HUMID (ABOVE 90 DEGREES) AND THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, STALLING OCCURS, MOSTLY AT IDLE. THIS SEEMS TO OCCUR WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR A LONG TIME, PARKED, AND THEN STARTED AGAIN AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THE CAR WILL NOT RESTART UNTIL IT HAS COOLED DOWN CONSIDERABLY. I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS AT LEAST ONE OTHER COMPLAINT CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED BECAUSE IT IS INTERMITTENT AND HAS ONLY HAPPENED TWICE IN THE TIME I'VE OWNED THE CAR. WHAT GIVES?

I AM NOT SURE HOW TO CONTACT YOU. I AM A TRAUMA SURGEON AND JUST ADMITTED A FOUR YEAR OLD WHO WAS IN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WITH SEAT BELT ON AND MOM HIT A DEER DEPLOYING THE AIRBAG. WHILE DRVING THE CAR, THE SPEEDOMOTOR DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY. THE NEEDLE JUMPS AROUND AND THE UNIT MAKES A LOUD BUZZING NOISE. ON A LONG TRIP, THIS NOISE MAKE DRIVING VERY DISTRACTING AND I NEVER KNOW HOW FAST I AM DRIVING. BOTH FORD AND THE DEALER HAVE ADVISED ME THAT THE REPAIR OF THIS PROBLEM IS MY RESPONSIBILTY EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ARGUED THAT I DID NOTHING TO INCUR THE DAMAGE. IS THIS TYPE OF COMPLAINT REVIEWED BY YOUR ORGANIZATION? I APPRECIATE YOUR HELP.
CONNECTOR FROM THE STARTER FAILED, CAUSING A NO-START CONDITION .PART HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE AND REPAIRED ONCE, BUT DEFECT KEEPS OCCURRING. TSB HAS BEEN ISSUED. *AK

UPON ATTEMPTING TO ENTER ONCOMING TRAFFIC ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THERE WAS NO MOVEMENT CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER, DEALER STATED THAT ACCELERATOR CABLE WAS BROKEN. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK WHEN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, CAUSING A COLLISION, AND RESULTING IN MINOR INJURIES. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
POWER LOCKS MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN DOOR IF SWITCH IS HELD DOWN. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN EVENT OF CRASH AND UNCONSOUS OR TRAPPED PERSON IS ON LOCK, OR NI THE EVENT OF SHORT CIRCUT SWITCH FAILURE. ONLY OPTION WOULD BE TO BREAK WINDOW. WHILE APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION VEHICLE STARTED TO ACCELERATE EVEN WITH APPLICATION OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. OWNER HAD TO TAKE KEY OUT OF IGNITION IN ORDER TO STOP. DEALER HAS FIXED PROBLEM. *AK
ORIGINAL SPEEDOMETER FAILED AT 21745 MILES BY BECOMING ERRATIC AT SPEEDS OF ABOUT 55 MPH. THE METER WOULD SOMETIMES READ AS HIGH AS 90 MPH. THIS METER WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AND NOW THE REPLACEMENT UNIT IS FAULTY AT 23300 MILES. A BRIEF SCAN OF YOUR ODI IDS INDICATES THE PROBLEM IS GENERIC WITH THESE DEVICES AS SOME UNITS HAVE BEEN REPLACED 3 AND 4 TIMES. IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD HAVING THOUSANDS OF FORDS ON THE HIGHWAY WITH FAULTY SPEEDOMETERS AND THEY SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACED.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS BECOME INOPERABLE IN RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS, CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
FRONT PASSENGER'S SEAT BELT LATCH PLATE HAS COME OFF THE BELT WHICH HAS CAUSED THE SEAT BELT TO BECOME INOPERABLE. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK

THE LEFT MOTOR MOUNT HAS GONE BAD. THE DEALER HAS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE . *AK
THE SPEEDOMETER BOUNCES AROUND,NOT SETTLING ON A SET SPEED. SOMETIMES THE GUAGE READS HIGHER THAN ACTUAL SPEED. DEALER SAID IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *AK
UPON STARTING VEHICLE AND PLACING IT IN REVERSE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE CONSUMER IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE ENGINE OFF TO STOP VEHICLE. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
THERE WAS A VERY STRONG SMELL OF GAS FUMES INSIDE THE CAR WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS SECOND OR THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH THIS HAPPENED WAS SPEED 35-45, TEMP GAUGE ON M IN NORMAL, OUTSIDE TEMP APPROX 90, AC ON MAX COOLING, FAN ON HI, FUEL WARNING LIGHT ON, LESS THAN 1/8 TANK OF GAS. FUMES WERE SO STRONG I STARTED GETTING DIZZY AND HAD TO PULL OFF ROAD TO AIR OUT VEHICLE. *AK
THIS IS REPULSIVE THAT THERE ARE SO MANY PROPBLEMS WITH FORDS WITH 3.8... EVERYONE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM.. SOMEONE MAKE FORD PAY. *AK
VEHICLE WAS SERVICED FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY NOTICED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS WERE BROKEN . CONTACTED DEALER TO HAVE THEM REPAIRED. *AK
DRIVER'S FOOT SLIPPED OFF BRAKES ONTO ACCELERATOR, CAUSING VEHICLE TO RUN INTO 4-5 INCH WIDE STEEL POLE WHICH RESULTED IN FRONT END BEING PULLED BACK ABOUT 12 INCHES. DUAL AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND SEAT BELTS DID NOT CATCH, CAUSING HEAD INJURIES. *AK
WINDSHIELD WIPERS NOT CLEARING WINDSHIELD PROPERLY CAUSING BLURRED VISON THROUGH WINDOW WHEN RAINING. NLM
SPEEDOMETER WILL BOUNCE AROUND FROM 0 TO 80MPH, NO MATTER WHAT THE SPEED, UNTIL IT HITS A BUMP. DEALER HAS TO REPLACED SPEEDOMETER HEAD. *AK
THE ENGINE FAILED WHILE DRIVING DUE TO PINCHED WIRE HARNESS UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT WHICH BURNED THE RELAY ON THE ENGINE. YH
SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE FLIES UP TO 70-75, THEN DOWN BELOW CURRENT SPEED. WAS REPLACED IN MARCH OF 1998, HAS NOW FAILED AGAIN. BOTH TIMES, THE DEALER HAS REFUSED TO PAY FOR ANY OF THE REPAIR. THE FIRST FAILURE OCCURRED AT 36,700 (BARELY OUT OF WARRANTY); THE DEALER WOULD NOT EVEN PAY FOR HALF THE REPAIR. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A SPEEDOMETER FAILING EVEN ONCE; THIS ONE HAS NOW FAILED TWICE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. *AK
THE ORIGINAL SPEEDOMETER WAS REPLACED (UNDER WARRANTY) AT APPROXIMATELY 27,000 MILES BECAUSE IT BECAME ERRATIC OVER 40 MPH. ERRACTIC MEANS THAT ONCE I GET ABOVE 40 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE CONSTANTLY BOUNCES BETWEEN 35 MPH AND 85 MPH AND MAKES VARIOUS HIGH-PITCHED OR "GROWLING-TYPE" NOISES. IT VARY RARELY WOULD STEADY ITSELF AT ONE RATE. EASTGATE FORD REPLACED THE SPEEDOMETER WITH THE FIRST PROBLEM. WITH THE REPLACEMENT SPEEDOMETER, I EXPERIENCED THE SAME ERRATIC BEHAVIOR AFTER ONLY 10,000 - 15,000 MILES. I HAVE NOT REPLACED IT BECAUSE I WAS PROVIDED A QUOTE OF $450 TO REPLACE THE UNIT. WHEN SEARCHING THE WEB AND THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS FOR THIS PROBLEM, IT STATES THAT THERE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ENOUGH LUBRICANT PLACED IN THE SPEEDOMETER CABLE DURING MANUFACTURE. THE ONLY WAY TO "REPAIR" THIS PROBLEM IS TO REPLACE THE UNIT. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT SPEED I AM TRAVELING ON CITY ROADS OR HIGHWAYS ONCE I GET ABOVE 40 MPH. I HAVE TO DRIVE AT APPROXIMATELY THE SAME RATE OF SPEED AS THE OTHER VEHICLES AROUND ME AND HOPE THAT THEY ARE DRIVING AT/AROUND THE SPEED LIMIT. I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT I AM WEARING OUT THE PLASTIC NEEDLE AND ANY ASSOCIATED BEARINGS BECAUSE OF THE NOISES THAT ARE GENERATED. IF THE BEARINGS WEAR OUT, I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TELL MY RATE OF SPEED AT ANY TIME, INCLUDING SCHOOL ZONES! AN INTERESTING NOTE IS THAT MY STEP-MOTHER HAS A 1993 FORD ESCORT WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. MY HUSBAND'S CO-WORKER ALSO HAS A FORD VEHICLE WITH THE EXACT SAME SPEEDOMETER PROBLEMS. IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET FORD TO RECALL THESE SPEEDOMETERS? THIS IS MY THIRD FORD VEHICLE AND WILL NOW BE MY LAST BECAUSE THIS IS SO ANNOYING. PLEASE ADVISE IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO TO ASSIST YOU ANY FURTHER. *AK

AIR BAG LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE ON THE DASH. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED DEALER. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. ALSO, CONSUMER WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION NOT DISENGAGING OUT OF PARK. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
