WE PURCHASED OUR 2003 GMC ENVOY XL SLE 8 CYLINDER BRAND NEW AT ALDEN BUICK IN FAIRHAVEN, MASS IN JULY 2003; FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS WE HAD IT SERVICED AT ROBERTSSON'S GMC 2680 CRANBERRY HIGHWAY, WAREHAM, MASS.02571,508-291-0044. WE HAD IT RECONDITIONED AT THIS DEALERSHIP LAST YEAR, SPENDING $4000.00; WE HAD IT INSPECTED AT THIS DEALERSHIP WITH THE MASSACHUSETTS VEHICLE CHECK; IT PASSED THE FRONT END CHECK AND FRAME CHECK ON 8/4/17. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN LATE DECEMBER, AND HIT SEVERAL DEEP POTHOLES CAUSED BY AN ICE STORM; SHORTLY THEREAFTER I LOST STEERING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I HAD IT TOWED TO ALDEN BUICK/GMC IN FAIRHAVEN, MASS. TO BE TOLD THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME HAD COLLAPSED DUE TO EXTENSIVE CORROSION AND RUST. I HAD IT TOWED TO ROBERTSON'S GMC IN WAREHAM AND FILED A CLAIM WITH COMMERCE INS. CO. TO HOPEFULLY COVER THE DAMAGE TO THE FRAME; COMMERCE DENIED THE CLAIM STATING"THE FRAME ASSEMBLY WAS SEVERELY ROTTED AND THIS EXTENSIVE ROT ALLOWED THE RIGHT FRONT CONTROL ARM TO BREAK AWAYFROM THE MOUNTING POINT ON THE FRAME RAIL. GMC ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN STATING THAT SOME ENVOY MODELS SUFFERED FROM EXTENSIVE FRAME CORROSION. WHY DID ROBERTSON'S GMC PASS THE VEHICLE ON THE SAFETY CHECK, AND WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED OF THE VEHICLE'S FRAME CORROSION BEFORE I SPENT THE $4000.00 RECONDITIONING IT? WHY IS FRAME CHECK AND FRONT END CHECK LISTED AS PASS ON MY VEHICLE WHEN THIS CORROSION AND RUST WAS PRESENT AT TIME OF INSSPECTION? FORTUNATELY NEITHER I NOR ANY OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS WERE INJURED WHILE DRIVING/RIDING IN THIS VEHICLE.

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING, THE REAR LOWERED NEAR TO THE GROUND. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT AT TIMES ONE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS HIGHER THAN THE OTHER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
DEAR SIR/MADAM, I HAVE A 2003 GMC ENVOY SLT MODEL 4.2L V6 4WD AND AS I WAS BACKING INTO MY GARAGE I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND WHINNING NOISE AND I NOW HAVE NO REVERSE GEAR AND WHEN I SELECT THE DRIVE GEAR ON THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION I HAVE A WHINNING NOISE, I HAVE READ THE BLOGS ON THIS ISSUE AND I BELIEVE THAT GM AND GMC ARE VERY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, THIS REPAIR WILL COST ME UP TO $2,800.00 PLUS TAX TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REMOVED AND A RE-MANUFACTURED ON REPLACED ON MY VEHICLE. I WAS JUST GLAD THAT THIS MATTER HAPPENED AT MY RESIDENCE AND NOT ON SOME BACK ROAD IN WEST VA., I BELIEVE THAT AS STATED, GM AND GMC IS VERY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE 4L603 TRANSMISSION THAT WERE USED IN THESE VEHICLES' AND THE PROBLEM WITH THE SUN-SHELL AND THE REACTION SUN GEARS THAT ARE LIKE A GRENADE EXPLODING INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION. I WOULD LIKE FOR A RECALL TO BE STARTED ON THIS PROBLEM AND THE OWNERS TO BE PAID BACK ON ALL OF THESE REPAIRS. THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR RIDE SUSPENSION THAT WAS INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS. THE AIR RIDE SUSPENSION DEFLATED ON BOTH SIDES ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BOTTOM OUT ON STOPS. UPDATED 07/08/15
WAS INSPECTING CAR AND HAD SEVERAL COMPLAINTS TO DEALERSHIP THAT FRONT END HAD A STRANGE NOISE WHEN WE GO OVER A ROUGH ROAD. WHILE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE FUEL SMELL IS COMING FROM I NOTICED A CRACK ON THE WELD NEXT TO THE SHOCK MOUNT . I ALSO NOTICED THAT THERE HAS BEEN A PREVIOUS REPAIR THERE BECAUSE WE HAVE HAD THIS CAR SINCE IT WAS NEW ALL I CAN THINK IS THAT THEY SAW THIS AND DID A REPAIR AND NOT TELLING US SO IF YOUR CAR IS CREAKING CHECK THE FRONT END COULD BE FALLING APART.
THE AIR SUSPENSION FAILS TO INFLATE. *TR
GMC IS SUPPOSE TO BE QUALITY HOWEVER, THE REAR SUSPENSION STARTS OUT GETTING LOWER AND LOWER UNTIL THE REAR SUSPENSION DROPPED TO THE POINT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO BE DRIVEN. BECAUSE THE TRUCK WAS SITTING ON THE REAR TIRES AND IF THE VEHICLE WERE TO BE DRIVEN, THE TIRES WOULD BLOW OUT AND CAUSE A CRASH AND POSSIBLY A FATALITY! THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINT AND CONCERNS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE YET NOTHING IS BEING DONE. *TR
WHERE THE TOP OF THE NESK OF THE FUEL TANK MEETS THE FUEL PUMP IT IS BROKEN WHERE THE 2 MEET. FUEL VAPORS, AS WELL AS ACTUAL FUEL LEAKING ON THE GROUND R BOTH PRESENT. STATIONARY , AS WELL AS, IN MOTION.
WHEN THE WEATHER GOT BELOW FREEZING, THE AIR BAG SUSPENSION WOULD NOT AIR UP. NOW, EVERY TIME I TURN OFF MY CAR, THE SUSPENSION GOES DOWN AND IT WILL NOT AIR BACK UP UNTIL I TURN THE CAR BACK ON. IF I HAVE PASSENGERS IN THE BACK SEAT THE SUSPENSION WILL NOT WORK. SEVERAL TIMES THE SUSPENSION HAS DEFLATED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND IF I'M GOING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO SHAKE AND WOBBLE BACK AND FORTH. IT IS VERY SCARY AND I DON'T EVEN LIKE HAVING MY KIDS IN THE CAR BECAUSE IT SEEMS SO DANGEROUS. I HAVE READ COUNTLESS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT OTHER ENVOY OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED TO THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 121,000.
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY WHEN REAR OF VEHICLE FELT LIKE IT WAS RIDING LOW. GOT OFF HIGHWAY AT NEXT EXIT TO CHECK BACK OF TRUCK. REAR OF TRUCK WAS SITTING LOW. TURNED TRUCK OFF WAITED A FEW MINUTES, TURNED TRUCK BACK ON. THE REAR OF THE TRUCK DID NOT RISE. THIS CAN NOT BE SAFE FOR THE REAR SUSPENSION SYSTEM TO DISENGAGE WHILE DRIVING. I HAD PREVIOUSLY NOTICED WHEN THE TRUCK IS FIRST TURNED ON THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION WOULD ENGAGE AND THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WOULD RISE. *TR

MY 03 ENVOY XL AIR COMPRESSOR WILL NOT INFLATE THE AIR SUSPENSION. THE REAR END IS SITTING WAY DOWN WITH A LITTLE BIT OF AIR IN THE SHOCKS BUT WILL BOTTOM OUT EASILY. THE COMPRESSOR COMES ON FOR ABOUT 30 SEC TO 1 MIN AT STARTUP BUT NO INCREASE IN RIDE HEIGHT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED - 1ST TIME WAS ABOUT 3-4 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2006 AND THE DEALERSHIP FIXED IT FOR FREE. I HAVE BEEN READING ON-LINE AND HAVE SEEN SIMILAR COMPLAINTS OVER THE YEARS FOR THE MODEL - 2003 GMC ENVOY XL. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. AFTER THE CONTACT PLACED FUEL IN HIS VEHICLE, HE CONTINUED TO SMELL AN ODOR OF GASOLINE. HE CRAWLED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED FUEL LEAKING ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE GAS TANK. THE GAS TANK WELD WAS RUSTED AND CRACKED, CAUSING FUEL TO LEAK OUT OF THE TANK. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FRONT SUSPENSION OF THE VEHICLE WAS BANGING WHENEVER HE DROVE OVER THE SMALLEST BUMP. IN ADDITION, THE FAN CLUTCH WAS MAKING A CLICKING SOUND. THE DEALER INFORMED HIM THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE REPAIRS WERE HIS RESPONSIBILITY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 88,000.
The contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked on several occasions, there was condensation under the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer on several occasions, where it was determined that the differential needed to be repaired due to a leak coming from the axle. On several occasions, it was determined that the rear pinion seal needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the rear pinion seal was replaced on several occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,411.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND AN OIL CHANGE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ROTORS ON THE VEHICLE WERE FAULTY AND THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING AND TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER INFORMED GENERAL MOTORS THAT THE FAILURE WAS A RESULT OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. GENERAL MOTORS THEN STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE.
