I HAD BEEN DRIVING AND PULLED INTO A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT AND WHEN I GOT OUT OF MY VEHICLE I NOTICED THE SMELL OF GASOLINE BEING CLOSE TO A GAS STATION I THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT WHEN GETTING BACK IN MY VEHICLE AFTER RETRIEVING MY FOOD I NOW SMELLED THE GASOLINE INSIDE MY VEHICLE STILL THOUGHT NOTHING THAT MAYBE THE FUMES WERE JUST LINGERING UNTIL THE NEXT DAY WHEN THE SMELL WAS STRONGER SO STRONG THAT MY CHILD WITH ASTHMA IMMEDIATELY HAD TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE SO BEING CAUTIOUS AS ANYONE I HAD MY HUSBAND TAKE A LOOK HE SMELLED THE GASOLINE BUT COULDN'T FIND A LEAK SO HE TOOK IT TO OUR LOCAL MECHANIC WHO THEN DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND REMOVED THE TANK AND REPLACED IT WITH A USED TANK AND WHATEVER PART WAS NEEDED TO FIX THE ISSUE SO SINCE THEN I HAVE NOT SMELLED ANYMORE GASOLINE BUT MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REFUSES TO GO OFF NOT TO MENTION I RECEIVE A LETTER IN THE MAIL STATING THAT THERE WAS SOME SORT OF RECALL ON MY EXACT YEAR AND MAKE OF VEHICLE AND THAT I COULD SEND IN A CLAIM TO GET BACK THE $500 I PUT INTO FIXING THE VEHICLE THINKING IT WAS NOW SAFE FOR MY FAMILY SO I PAID TO FIX THE PROBLEM ONLY MY NEW TANK IS USED SO I'M GUESSING I'LL BE HAVING THIS ISSUE AGAIN AT SOME POINT WHICH IS VERY SCARY CONSIDERING I DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN THIS VEHICLE PLUS I'M OUT THE $500 STILL HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WHICH I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX AGAIN SHOULD THE PROBLEM ARISE AND I DIDN'T KEEP THE RECEIPT FROM MY MECHANIC THINKING PROBLEM SOLVED I PUT IT ASIDE IT THREW IT AWAY SO I'M JUST CURIOUS IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO BECAUSE KNOWING THE TANKS HAVE ISSUES AND I'VE JUST PAID $500 FOR ANOTHER RECALLED TANK PRETTY MUCH SO I'M AT A POINT WHERE I HAVE NO OPTION BUT TO TAKE A LOSS ON THE MONEY I PAID TO FIX THE VEHICLE BEFORE I KNEW ABOUT THE RECALL NOT TO MENTION I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIE RODS TWICE AND IT'S POPPING AGAIN WHEN I MAKE TURNS I LOVE THIS VEHICLE BUT NOW I'M SUPER NERVOUS OF IT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH MICHELIN LTX M/S TIRES, TIRE SIZE 245/65/17. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES EXHIBITED CRACKS ON THE SIDEWALLS AND SHOULDER AREA. THE CRACKS APPEARED TO BE EXTREMELY LARGER ALONG THE SHOULDER OF THE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTO TIRE CENTER FOR INSPECTION. THE TIRES HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,496. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. THE VEHICLE HAS MICHELIN LTX M/S TIRES, SIZE P245/165/1R (NA). WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE. ONE HUNDRED MILES AFTER THE FIRST TIRE FAILURE, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TREAD ALSO SEPARATED FROM THE TIRES. THE TIRES HAVE NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
ON 6/3/2008, I PURCHASED 2 MICHELIN LTX M/S 245/65/17 TIRES FOR MY 2003 GMC ENVOY FROM, MILLENNIUM AUTOBODY & SERVICE INC., 1782 MAIN ST., BROCKTON, MA 02304. ON 10/22/2008 (AFTER ONLY 7969 MILES) THE TIRE BLEW OUT ON THE WAY TO FL- HAD IT BEEN REPLACED IN NY. THE TIRE WAS SHREDDED. ON 11/10/2008 (AFTER ONLY 9557 MILES ) THE 2ND TIRE WENT FLAT- I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE SUV OVER QUICKLY RECOGNIZING THE SAME SOUNDS AND VIBRATIONS FROM 1ST BLOW OUT. THIS TIRE WAS NOT SHREDDED. THERE WAS NO PUNCTURES/ CUTS TO THE TIRE. THE CLERK AT THE TIRE KINGDOM IN FL STATED THAT IT WAS A FAULTY TIRE VALVE STEM THAT HAD CAUSED THE TIRE TO FAIL. I CALLED HOME, AND MY FAMILY ADVISED ME THAT THERE HAD BEEN REPORTS OF BAD VALVE STEMS ON TRUCKS AND SUV'S. I CONTACTED THE LOCATION WHERE I PURCHASED THE TIRES TO REPORT THE TWO TIRES FAILING- THEY REQUESTED THAT I BRING THE TIRES BACK WHEN I CAME BACK TO MA. I DID NOT HAVE THE 1ST TIRE- BUT I DID GET AND STILL HAVE THE 2ND TIRE. MILLENNIUM AUTOBODY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO TALK TO TIRE REP AND GET BACK TO ME- BUT IT HAS BEEN SEVERAL WEEKS NOW AND STILL NO WORD. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT NO ONE WAS INJURED DURING THESE 2 EVENTS- I FEAR THAT THERE ARE STILL FAULTY TIRE VALVES OUT THERE- THAT OTHER CONSUMERS MAY NOT BE AWARE OF THEM. *TR
I LIVE IN ARIZONA WHERE IT IS HOT AND DRY. I WAS COMING HOME FROM THE MALL WITH MY 2 CHILDREN ON THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN I HAD THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE BLOW OUT. I WAS STRANDED ON THE EXPRESSWAY FOR AN HOUR WITH 2 SMALL CHILDREN. MY VEHICLE IS FAIRLY NEW - 2003 GMC ENVOY XL AND THERE IS ONLY 38,000 MILES ON THE TIRES. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK CAME TO CHANGE OUT THE TIRE THEY INDICATED THAT IT WAS VERY UNUSUAL FOR A MICHELIN TIRE TO BLOW THE RADIALS LIKE IT DID. I HAVE MODEL P245/65R17. I STILL HAVE THE TIRE AVAILABLE, BUT NOW AM HAVING TO HAVE BOTH REAR TIRES REPLACED SO THEY WEAR EVENLY AND I SEE THAT SOME MODELS SIMILAR TO MINE 245/75R16 HAVE BEEN RECALLED. I HAVE NOT REPLACED THE TIRE YET, BECAUSE I AM HOPEING SOMEONE CAN GIVE ME SOME INSIGHT TO THE PROBLEM AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF I SHOULD HAVE ALL THE TIRES REPLACED NOT JUST THE REAR ONES.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OFF, LEAVING ONLY THE RIM ATTACHED TO THE SPINDLE. SPARKS IGNITED WHEN THE RIM CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE CONCRETE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, AND ALLOWED IT TO COAST TO A STOP. *AKI

WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE LEFT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER TWICE AND LANDED UPRIGHT. THE FRONT AND SIDE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR BRUISES. *AK *SC *JB
I HAD LOST 3 CENTER PIECES THAT COVERS THE LUDE BOLTS. I SPOKE THE COMPANY ABOUT THE ABOVE AND THEY STATED THEY HADN'T HAD ANY ONE TO COMPLAIN. BUT AFTER GREAT EFFORT IT WAS RESOLVED WITH ME BEING REIMBURSED WITH THE 1 I HAD PURCHASED AND THEY REPLACED THE OTHER 2. I HAD SPOKEN WITH 2 OF MY CO-WORKERS AND THEY HAD A SIMILAR COMPLAINT, BUT DID NOT PURSUE IT. NOW MY CRUISE CONTROL HAS GONE OUT AND MAY VECHILE ONLY HAVE 16,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVEN'T USE D IT. THE WAY I FOUND OUT IT WAS NOT WORKING WAS WE WERE TAKING A TRIP AND THE CRUISE WOULD NOT WORK. I NOW HAVE TO TAKE IT IN FOR REPAIR AND I AM DREADING IT WILL BE A ORDEAL. SINCE I HAVE TO TAKE IT IN TO THE CHEVROLET PLACE INSTEAD OF THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM BECAUSE OF THE POOR SERVICE.*AK
