I BEEN HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BREAKING OFF. I SPENT A TON OF MONEY REPLACING O2 SENSORS OVER THE LAST 4 YEARS. I'VE JUST CURRENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THE O2 SENSORS WERE NOT BAD, IT WAS ACTUALLY THE EXHAUST HEADER BOLTS BREAKING ALLOWING MY EMISSION SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION. I'VE HAD 3 BOLTS REPLACED 2 MONTHS AGO AT A TIDY COST OF $1000.00. ONE WEEK AGO I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND SMELLED EXHAUST FUMES IN MY TRUCK CAB. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY MECHANIC AND HE FOUND 3 MORE BOLTS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE BROKEN OFF. NOT ONLY AM I WITHOUT A VEHICLE (BECAUSE AT THIS TIME I CANNOT AFFORD THE REPAIR) I THINK GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD CORRECT MY PROBLEM AND PAY FOR PREVIOUS REPAIRS. THIS IS POOR WORKMAN SHIP ON THEIR PART NOT TO MENTION A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. ALL GM TRUCKS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 1999 AND 2007 WITH V-8 ENGINES HAVE THIS PROBLEM. GM SHOULD MAN UP TO THIS ISSUE AND RECALL AND REPAIR THE FAULTY EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT PROBLEM. I FOR ONE THINK THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN. MY TRUCK CANNOT PASS AN ENVIRONMENTAL EMISSIONS TEST AT THIS TIME. *TR
BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS. DOING PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE AND AN INSPECTION I NOTICED FOUR BOLTS ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BROKEN. THE FRONT AND REAR ON BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT SIDES ARE BROKEN OFF. LITTLE JETS OF FLAME IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAN'T BE A GOOD THING. *KB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC 3500. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND THE BRAKING AND STEERING FUNCTIONS BECAME INOPERABLE. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS, THE CONTACT MUST JUMPSTART THE VEHICLE OR WAIT UNTIL THE VEHICLE COOLS DOWN IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE RESTARTED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE BECAUSE IT COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
DIED ON HIGHWAY, CRANKED BUT WOULDN'T START, ENDED UP BEING CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR, DISTRIBUTOR CAP, IGNITION ROTOR, CRANKSHAFT WENT OUT AND BURNT UP THE OTHER TWO. FEW DAYS LATER HAPPENED AGAIN, DIED ON HIGHWAY, CRANK BUT WON'T START, HAD TO REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP, IGNITION ROTOR, AGAIN WITH IGNITION COIL. CAUSED 2 TOW CHARGES, NOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAS GONE OUT. *TR
MY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS FAILED ONCE UNDER WARRANTY AROUND 79000 MILES AND AGAIN AROUND 110000. I PAID FOR THE SECOND. I AM HAVING TROUBLE AGAIN AT 117000 MILES AND COME TO FIND OUT THE PROBLEM IS DUE TO A LEAKING INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. THIS IS ALLOWING COOLANT TO FIND ITS WAY INTO THE EXHAUST DESTROYING THE QUITE EXPENSIVE PARTS. *JB
MY 2000 GMC PICK UP TRUCK HAS A LOUD ENGINE NOISE REFERRED TO AS PISTON SLAP. THE NOISE HAS BEEN PRESENT SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I HAVE SINCE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT WITH SOME GM ENGINES. THE DEALER STATES THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE BUT MANY WEB SITES DESCRIBE IT AS A MANUFACTURING & DESIGN DEFECT. I BELIEVE THIS CAUSES DECREASED PERFORMANCE AND INCREASED FUEL CONSUMPTION. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70MPH, THE ENGINE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING FOLLOWED BY SMOKE ERUPTING FROM THE FRONT UNDERHOOD AREA WITH NO VISIBLE FLAMES. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO THE CURB IN NEUTRAL AND EXIT THE VEHICLE. UPON INITIAL INSPECTION ON THE SKID PLATES, THERE WAS A ROD BEARING FAILURE, BUT OIL WAS STILL PRESENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE RECEIVED REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND THERE WERE NO OBVIOUS ROAD HAZARDS.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE FAN STOPPED BLOWING WITHOUT WARNING. THE SENSOR RESISTOR WAS REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $500. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS AVAILABLE, THEREFORE, THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 191,360 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 189,000. UPDATED 12-12-07. *KB UPDATED
RIGHT REAR MANIFOLD BOLT BROKE ALLOWING EXHAUST LEAK WITH ACCOMPANYING NOISE. REPAIRS WERE MADE WITH SUBSEQUENT FAILURE. DEALERS DECLINED ANY TYPE OF WARRANTY OR OTHER ASSISTANCE. SUBJECT BOLT HAS FAILED FOR THIRD TIME. *TR
VALVE TAP ON COLD START LASTS APPROXIMATELY ONE MINUTE. GMC CLAIMS IT IS CARBON BUILD UP IN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER AND WILL NOT DAMAGE THE ENGINE. THIS IS UNSATISFACTORY. ANY TAPPING SOUND IS INDICATIVE OF LACK OF LUBRICATION AND WILL PREMATURELY WEAR THE ENGINE OR ITS COMPONENTS PARTICULARLY AFTER WARRANTY RUNS OUT. SEE SERVICE BULLETIN #01-06-01-028A. 2000 GMC K2500 LEAKING WATER INTO ENGINE. IS THE EXTENDED LIFE ANTI-FREEZE TO BLAME? HAVE HEARD REPORTS OF THIS. DOES GM HAVE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM?. *AK
HAD TALKED TO DEALERSHIP TWO TIMES COMPLAINING OF ENGINE KNOCK ON START UP. BOTH SERVICE ADVISORS TOLD ME THAT IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND I DON'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT IT. I CALLED GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE TO GET THE PROBLEM DOCUMENTED AN TO SEE WHAT THEY THINK OF IT. THEY INFORMED ME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND GIVE MY SERVICE REQUEST NUMBER (1-64044981) AND HAVE THEM DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP HAD ME PICK THE VEHICLE UP AND THEY TOLD ME THE SHOP FOREMAN LISTENED TO MY NOISE ALONG WITH TWO OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR AND ALL MADE THE SAME NOISE. I CALLED GMC BACK TO LET THEM KNOW THE PROBLEM WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND GOT THE VOICEMAIL BOX OF THE REPRESENITIVE SO I LEFT A MESSAGE TO PLEASE CALL ME BACK. I HAVE NOT RECIEVED A CALL BACK SO I CALLED AND TALKED TO TWO OTHER REPRESENITIVES AND THEY WILL NOT HELP ME THEY JUST LEFT MESSAGES FOR THE ORIGINAL REPRESENATIVE THAT I TALKED TO. I GUESS THAT GMC DOES NOT WANT TO TALK TO ME ABOUT MY COMPLAINT.
VEHICLE HAS STALLED TWICE AT 20 MPH, FIRST TIME DEALER FOUND LOOSE TERMINAL AT ENGINE WIRING HARNESS. VEHICLE IS AT DEALERSHIP AT THIS TIME.*AK

PROBLEM ONLY OCCURES WHEN ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION ARE COMPLETLY WARMED AND TRANSMISSION IS IN OVERDRIVE MODE. IF TRANSMISSION IS IN DRIVE "3" NO PROBLEMS OCCUR AT ANY ENGINE SPEED. DEALER STATES ON REPAIR ORDER, "NORMAL CONDITION AT THIS TIME UNTIL AN UPDATE COMES OUT". SUGGESTION WAS MADE BY DEALER THAT THIS COULD BE CAUSED BY TOURQUE CONVERTER.
ENGINE BURNS 3QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN CHANGES HAS 21750 MILES. *AK
THE CONSUMER HAD THE FIRST OIL CHANGE AT 3500 MILES AND EVER SINCE THEN HAS HAD TO ADD 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 2 WEEKS, THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER .
THERE IS AND HAS BEEN AN ENGINE KNOCK SINCE 7/2000, HAS BEEN IN SHOP 6 TIMES FOR SAME PROBLEM, GMC CONTENDS CARBON KNOCK, GETTING WORSE. IDLES ROUGH, TOLD BY DEALER AND GMC IT IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF VEHICLE. GMC SAYS THEY WILL CONTINUE TO HORNOR WARRANTY. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WARRANTY EXPRIRES, AND THE PISTON COMES THROUGH THE BLOCK. DRIVETRAIN HESTIATES WHEN IN GEAR.
