GMC TRUCK FRAMES CRACKING, ROTTING OUT, BRAKING DUE TO POOR DESIGN AND COATING AND GM WON'T STEP UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AS TOYOTA HAS. THE CONSUMER GETS AN UNSAFE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF FRAMES GIVING OUT WELL BEFORE THE BODY, THE FRAMES SHOULD BE STRONG. IN UNDER 2 YEARS THE FRAME WENT FROM STRONG AND SAFE TO NOW RUSTED UP SCRAP METAL. AMERICAN QUALITY SHOULD BE OF GREAT STANDARDS IN MY UP MOST OPINION BEING AN ARMY VETERAN. GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD COMPANSATE OWNERS OR BUY THEM BACK AS TOYOTA HAS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE REAR TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLE WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER A MANUFACTURER RECALL, BUT THE REMEDY FAILED TO PREVENT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 351,000. DRIVING TRUCK IN TOWN APPLIED BRAKES AT A STOPLIGHT BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. NO BRAKES AT ALL HAD TO GO THRU THE RED LIGHT AND AROUND 3 CARS IN FRONT OF ME, RUBBED THE CURB TO GET THE TRUCK TO STOP. RUST AND CORROSION ON THE STEEL REAR BRAKE LINES CAUSED LINE FAILURE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLES WERE INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT COULD NOT ENTER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 200,000.
SEVERE UNDER BODY/FRAME ROT. THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND FRAME OF THE VEHICLE IS SEVERELY CORRODED. THERE ARE NUMEROUS ROT HOLES IN THE BED FLOOR TO THE EXTENT THAT YOU CAN NOT WALK ON THE BED. THE ROCKER PANELS AND CAB CORNERS HAVE ROTTED AWAY COMPLETELY. FACTORY TOW PACKAGE WIRING HARNESS HOUSING IS ROTTED. REAR BUMPER ROTTED TO THE POINT WHERE THERE WAS ONLY 40% OF THE BUMPER REMAINING. BRAKE LINES ROTTED ALONG WITH ENTIRE BRAKE ASSEMBLY ON REAR TIRES, CALIPER AND HOUSING THAT HOLDS CALIPER ROTTED. ENTIRE PORTION OF METAL THAT HOLDS THE LEFT TAILGATE HINGE ROTTED AWAY AND IS NOW GONE. TAILGATE CAN NOT BE OPENED. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE FOR AN INSPECTION STICKER I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS FALLING APART AND I WAS WARNED THAT I SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS ROTTED TO THE POINT THAT REPAIR WOULD NOT BE A COST EFFECTIVE CHOICE. UPON CONTACTING DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC K1500. THE CONTACT WAS PERFORMING AN OIL CHANGE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS MOUNTED ON THE LIFT. SUDDENLY, HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE PLUNGED TO THE GROUND WITH THE REMAINDER OF THE CAB STILL MOUNTED ON THE LIFT. THE VEHICLE'S FRAME FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AND IS CURRENTLY INOPERABLE. THERE IS AN NHTSA RECALL, # 06V066000 REGARDING THE STRUCTURE: BODY: TAILGATE: HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. UPDATED 07/25/06. *JB
ROAD DEBRIS BOUNCED UP AND BROKE OFF THE SHIFTER CABLE RENDERING MY SHIFTER INOPERABLE. I HAD TO CRAWL UNDER THE TRUCK AND SHIFT IT BY HAND TO GET IT TO A PLACE TO HAVE THE CABLE REPLACED. VERY DANGEROUS. *NM
I FILED A COMPLAINT LAST YEAR (ODI# 10125958) ABOUT MY ONE TAILGATE CABLE BREAKING AND GM TELLING ME THAT MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE TAILGATE CABLE RECALL NHTSA#04V129000 GM RECALL#04007. I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM THE NHTSA OR GM. SINCE THEN MY OTHER CABLE HAS BROKEN MAKING MY TAILGATE USELESS. NOW WHENEVER I HAVE TO LOAD SOMETHING INTO MY TRUCK, I HAVE TO TAKE MY TAILGATE OFF. THAT'S AN INJURY JUST WAITING TO HAPPEN. BUT THEN AGAIN, I GUESS THE NHTSA DOES NOT CARE OR LISTEN UNTIL THE INJURIES HAPPEN ANYWAY. *NM

OWNER WAS AFRAID THAT THE TAILGATE WILL FALL OFF BECUASE THERE WAS ONLY ONE CABLE HOLDING IT.THERE WAS RECALL 04V129000 WAS ISSUED, BUT OWNER'S VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO VIN. THE DEALERSHIP WILL CHARGE OWNER FOR THE REPAIR WORK. AT THIS TIME THE OWNER DID NOT USE THE TAILGATE. OWNER DIDN'T WANT TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS BECUASE GMC WAA AWARE THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM.*AK
NHTSA RECALL 04V129000. GMC ISSUED A TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLE RECALL. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT HAS EXPERIENCED BROKEN CABLES, KEEPING IT FROM MAINTAINING UPWARD POSITION. DEALER WILL REPAIR AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSE.*AK
NHTSA #04V129000 GM RECALL #04007 MY VIN:[XXX] GM TELLS ME THAT MY TRUCK IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. GM'S RECALL NOTICE THAT I SEE ON MYGMLINK.COM AFTER ENTERING MY VIN STATES "ON SOME OF THESE VEHICLES, THE GALVANIZED STEEL TAILGATE CABLE THAT SUPPORTS THE TAILGATE IN THE FULL OPEN POSITION MAY CORRODE, WEAKEN, AND FRACTURE." I HAVE GALVANIZED STEEL CABLES WHICH ARE CORRODED AND WEAKENED. ONE FRACTURED ABOUT A YEAR AGO, THE OTHER IS CLOSE TO BREAKING. I CONTACTED GM ABOUT GETTING TEMPORARY REPLACEMENTS THAT THEY ALSO STATE IN THE RECALL. THIS IS WHEN THEY TOLD ME THAT MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. MY QUESTION IS, HOW COULD IT NOT BE PART OF THE RECALL? I HAVE A 2000 SIERRA AND MY CABLES ARE CORRODED, WEAKENED AND FRACTURED. I WOULD THINK ALL CABLES THAT WERE MANUFACTURED WITH GALVANIZED STEEL HAVE A PROBLEM WITH CORRODING BECAUSE OF MOISTURE. GM EVEN STATES IN THEIR RECALL QUESTION/ANSWER SECTION THAT "MOISTURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTAMINANTS MAY ENTER BETWEEN THE METAL STRANDS OF THE CABLE AT EITHER END OF THE CABLE AND IN SOME CASES, THE BLACK PLASTIC SHEATHING MAY BECOME CRACKED OR TORN DURING NORMAL USAGE CREATING A PATH FOR MOISTURE ENTRY. MOISTURE MAY COLLECT AND CONCENTRATE NEAR THE CENTER OF THE CABLE DURING NORMAL USAGE OF THE TAILGATE, THE CABLE IS FLEXED AT THE MIDPOINT. REPEATED FLEXING, PLUS CORROSION CAUSED BY THE MOISTURE AND CONTAMINANTS, MAY WEAKEN THE METAL STRANDS, AND THEY CAN EVENTUALLY SEVER UNDER LOAD." THE FACT IS, THE CABLES ARE BREAKING DUE TO THE GALVANIZED STEEL CORRODING. IT SEEMS LIKE GM IS TRYING TO GET BY WITH REPLACING AS FEW OF THE POORLY DESIGNED CABLES AS THE NHTSA WILL LET THEM GET BY WITH. IF YOU WOULD LIKE DIGITAL PHOTOS OF MY BROKEN/CORRODED CABLES, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN PROVIDE WITH GETTING MY CABLES REPLACED. BUT MORE THEN ANYTHING, I THINK GM SHOULD BE FORCED THE CORRECT THIS ISSUE ON ALL THEIR VEHICLES THAT USE GALVANIZED STEEL IN THEIR CABLES.
