Wipers stop working
THE LINK BALL SOCKET BROKE IN THE WIPER TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY CAUSING THE WIPERS TO STOP WORKING WHILE DRIVING IN A HARD RAIN ON THE INTERSTATE. GM HAS A SPECIAL COVERAGE SERVICE ON THIS KNOWN PROBLEM BUT IT HAS A LIMITED DATE AND MILEAGE ON THE COVERAGE. SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT N192266180 WIPER TRANSMISSION ARM LINKAGE FAILURE. THE LETTER NOTIFYING CUSTOMERS OF THIS PROBLEM WERE NOT SENT OUT UNTIL AFTER JANUARY 6, 2020. THAT ALLOWS LESS THAN A FEW MONTHS FOR THE PROBLEM TO BE INSPECTED AND FIXED. I DID NOT RECEIVE A LETTER AS OF JULY 20, 2020. THE REPAIR IS ABOUT $300.
WIPERS QUIT WHILE DRIVING IN A RAIN STORM. HAD TO HAVE THEM EMERGENCY REPAIRED.
DRIVING AT 50 MPH IN POURING RAIN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER DETACHED AND GOT STUCK ON DRIVERSIDE OUTSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD WHILE ON HIGH SPEED. THIS RESULTED IN THE WIPERS NON MOVING AND STUCK UPWARD THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THANK GOD NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME OR THIS MAY HAD RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT AS I COULD NOT SEE A THING. I HAD TO LEAN OUT MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW TO SEE A SPOT I COULD SAFETLY PULL OVER. AFTER I DISLODGE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WIPER BLADE THEY STILL WOULDN'T MOVE. MOTOR RUNS, BUT WIPER BLADES DON'T MOVE NOW.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ROSEVILLE BUICK GMC (2775 LONG LAKE RD, ST. PAUL, MN) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. ONE NIGHT MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON A COUNTRY TWO LANE ROAD DURING A HEAVY RAIN STORM WHEN THE WIPERS SUDDENLY STOPPED IN THE STRAIGHT UP POSITION ALMOST OFF THE WINDSHIELD. IT IS ONLY BY GOD THAT SHE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE SHE HAD ZERO VISIBILITY. A SCARY SITUATION BECAUSE SHE WAS MEETING TRAFFIC AND BEHIND HER WAS AN 18 WHEELER BIG TRUCK AND OTHER VARIOUS VEHICLES. AS AN ADDED ISSUE SHE HAD NO PHONE RECEPTION TO CALL FOR HELP, DANGEROUSLY SITTING, BARELY OFF THE ROAD, ON THE 'SMALL' SHOULDER OF THAT TWO LANE ROAD AS A YOUNG WOMAN WITH NO HELP IN A HEAVY RAINSTORM. SHE HAD TO SIT AND WAIT UNTIL THE RAIN STOPPED TO PROCEED TO A SAFE AREA, FORTUNATELY WITHOUT AN INCIDENT, THANK GOD. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS NOTED THAT THE FAILURE OF THE WIPER SYSTEM WAS RELATED TO THE PLASTIC GROMMET COMING APART FROM THE METAL BALL IN WHICH IT WAS ATTACHED. POOR DESIGN SHOULD BE NOTED IN THAT THIS ATTACHMENT IS UPSIDE DOWN. A CONSTANT WEAR IS GOING TO TAKE PLACE BEING A PLASTIC GROMMET SURROUNDING A METAL BALL IN THE UPSIDE DOWN POSITION ALLOWING WATER AND DIRT TO ENTER THE JOINT FURTHER INCITING THE POSSIBILITY OF A DISLODGING IN THE FUTURE. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN OR WHERE THIS WILL HAPPEN, OR WHAT SITUATION YOU MIGHT BE IN, FURTHER PROMOTING THE POSSIBILITY FOR AN ACCIDENT AND SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. THANKFULLY GOD GUIDED MY DAUGHTER TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND KEPT HER SAFE. IN ALL MY YEARS OF DRIVING I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS TYPE OF ISSUE BEING SO PREVALENT IN SO MANY MODEL YEARS, AND THE SAFETY CONCERNS ASSOCIATED WITH IT AND NO RECALL TO BE ISSUED BY THE MANUFACTURER! WAKE UP GM, LIVES ARE IMPORTANT TOO!

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS IN MY 2010 GMC TERRAIN MALFUNCTIONED (STOPPED WORKING) WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY RAIN AND TRAFFIC ON A HIGHWAY. DURING THE DOWNPOUR AND TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 45MPH, I SWITCHED MY WIPERS TO 'HIGH SPEED' AND IMMEDIATELY THE WIPERS HALTED IN THE UPPER LEFT POSITION, FAILING TO MOVE FROM THAT POINT. I EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LACK OF VISIBILITY AND HAD TO MANEUVER IN BETWEEN CARS TO GET SAFELY TO THE SHOULDER. I AM VERY LUCKY THIS DID NOT RESULT IN INJURY AND/OR A WRECK. FROM THAT POINT, I NEEDED TO WAIT UNTIL THE RAIN STOPPED AS HIGH SPEED CARS PASSED ME ON THE SHOULDER, GIVEN MY WIPERS WOULD NOT MOVE - DESPITE THE BATTERY/ENGINE/CAR RUNNING APPROPRIATELY OTHERWISE. FROM INTERNET RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THIS IS A COMMON (AND VERY DANGEROUS) PROBLEM, WHERE THE PLASTIC SOCKET (OR LINKAGE) OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DETACHES IN HIGH VELOCITY. THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED - AS IT HAS BEEN IN CANADA.
DRIVING HOME IN A TORRENTIAL RAIN STORM AND THE WIPERS SIMPLY STOP WORKING! I HAD MY SON IN THE CAR AND WAS TERRIFIED BECAUSE WE COULD NOT PULL OVER ON THE PARKWAY. UPRIGHT IN A VERTICAL POSITION WITH ZERO VISIBILITY NEARLY PLOWING INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME WITH STANDSTILL TRAFFIC. MY ARM TRYING TO PUSH THE WIPERS TO MOVE ....NO RESPONSES!, I AM SO ANGRY WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED! I AM READING THESE REPORTS AND I AM LIVID THAT GMC HAS NOT RECALLED THIS VEHICLE!,,, WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR YOUR COMPANY TO RESPOND!,,,,,,
THE WIPER FAILED IN THE MIDDLE OF A HEAVY STORM ON THE HIGHWAY. VEHICLE HAD TO BE PULLED OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND BECAME UNDRIVEABLE UNTIL THE RAIN SUBSIDED. THE WIPER FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE WIPER TRANSMISSION LINK BALL SEPARATING FROM ITS SOCKET. IT SEEMS TO BE THE IDENTICAL FAILURE COVERED BY THE GM RECALL ON 2013 GMC TERRAIN AND CHEVROLET EQUINOX CROSSOVERS(NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V582000). GM'S RECALL SHOULD INCLUDE 2010S AS WELL!
WINDSHIELD WIPER LINKAGE WIPER BROKE, I SEE SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE.
DURING A DOWN POUR WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. IT APPEARS THE PLASTIC BUSHING EITHER WORE OUT OR WAS FAULTY.
TAKATA RECALL MY WINDSHIELD WHIPERS QUIT WORKING, THEY STOPPED IN FEBRUARY WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD LEAVING THE STORE. I HAVE SPENT ALOT OF MONEY TRYING TO GET IT FIX THE PROBLEM AND I HAVNT BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT YET. THIS PROBLEM IS SO UNSAFE, IT IS MY MAIN DRIVING VEHICLE NEED IT TO GET TO AND FROM WORK AND I AM UNABLE TO DRIVE IN THE RAIN OR SNOW. I LIVE IN MISSOURI THIS IS A HUGE INCONVENIENCE.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V582000 (VISIBILITY) ALTHOUGH THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
WHILE DRIVING RAN WASHER FLUID BUT WINDSHIELD WIPERS DID NOT WORK. COULDN'T SEE AND HAD TO FIND A PLACE TO PULL OVER. VERY HAZARDOUS.
WHILE DRIVING DURING TROPICAL STORM ALBERTO THE WIPERS ON MY 2010 GMC TERRAIN SLT COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING ALMOST CAUSING US TO CRASH. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE BUSHINGS GOING OUT ON THE WIPER ASSEMBLY AND THERE IS EVEN A RECALL IN CANADA. WHY NOT USA?!?! TO ADD TO THE PROBLEM YOU CAN'T JUST REPLACE THE BUSHINGS, YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE LINKAGE WHICH IS $125! SINCE WE DO NOT WANT TO PAY LABOR COSTS WE ARE TRYING TO REPLACE THE LINKAGE OURSELF. WHAT A NIGHTMARE THIS HAS BEEN. GM NEEDS TO TAKE A NICE LONG LOOK AT THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FOR THESE AND DO FOR THE US WHAT THEY HAVE DONE FOR CANADA. VERY DISAPPOINTED. THIS ISSUE GREATLY IMPAIRS ONES ABILITY TO SEE WHILE DRIVING AND PEOPLE COULD LOSE LIVES OVER THIS. I WONDER HOW MANY ACCIDENTS HAVE HAPPENED DUE TO THIS ISSUE AND THE PERSON DID NOT LIVE TO TELL YOU THEIR STORY. GM SAVE LIVES AND RECALL THE WIPER LINKAGE ON ALL YEARS OF TERRAINS IN THE USA!!!
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY DURING HEAVY DOWNPOUR AT NIGHT WITH RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, THE WIPERS SUDDENLY STOPPED MID MOTION. I IMMEDIATELY BLINDLY PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I COULD HEAR THE WIPER MOTOR, BUT THE WIPERS WEREN'T WORKING. HAD VEHICLE TOWED HOME WHERE I TOOK APART COWL AND WIPER ASSY AND NOTICED THE WIPER LINKAGE WAS DISCONNECTED FROM THE WIPER TRANSMISSION AND MOTOR. I WILL REPLACE LINKAGE ASSY AS "BALL" CONNECTOR TO TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED.
