No warning while exiting, I was able to hit the brakes. Then, when I reached for the brakes again, it didn’t break. There was no signals on the car. The car is total damage air bags came out.
The contact owns a 2002 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the contact started to slow for traffic and depressed the brake, and felt no braking. The contact had to depress the brake pedal to the floorboard. The contact stated that the brake warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to safely stop and drove the vehicle to his residence. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer who diagnosed that there was a fractured parking brake spring. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 189,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED AFTER HE DROVE THE VEHICLE AT A VERY LOW SPEED, THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY EXPERIENCED UNWANTED ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) ACTIVATION. THE CONTACT STATED HE WAS FORCED TO DRIVE AT A HIGHER SPEED IN ORDER TO AVOID THIS ISSUE. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE DEALER, CABLE DAHMER BUICK GMC OF KANSAS CITY ADDRESS: 907 W 104TH ST, KANSAS CITY, MO 64114) HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE AND OFFERED LITTLE ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000. THE CONTACT REFERENCED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VIN WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER THIS RECALL HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED.
AS VEHICLE COMES TO A SLOW STOP THE BRAKES FEEL AS IF THE RELEASE AND STILL ROLL ALSO WHEN PULLING INTO A DRIVEWAY OR PARKING SPOT THIS HAS HAPPED OFTEN.
BRAKES WENT. BOUGHT A CT CAR IN SC. LUCKILY DRIVING 5PMH WHEN THEY WENT. WAITING AT THE SHOP NOW TO GET FIXED. SPENT THE NIGHT IN MY CAR AS I WAS MOVING TO CT
MY VEHICLE IS BEING TAMPERED WITH, INTENTIONALLY REPAIRS IMPROPERLY PREFORMED STEERING WHEELS ENGINE NORTHSTAR ALL. AFFECTED.
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A ROLL OVER ONE FRONTAL CAR ACCIDENT. NOT FOR SURE OF THE SPEED BUT IT WAS OOVER 50 MILES AN HOUR. I HIT BRAKE GOING AROUND THE CURVE AND FLIIPED OVER OVER FIVE TIMES AND NOT YET THE AIRBAG DIDNT DEPLOY. FORCED CAUSE OF THE SEAT BEALT TO STRECCH AND LOCK IN PLACE. POLICE AND TOW TRUCK WAS SURPRISE THE AIRBAG SHOULD HAVE DEPLYED. NOW THE TRUCK IS TOTAL WHICH MEAN CANT BE FIX DESTROYED AND NOT REPAIRABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN POUND.
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND THEN I CAME TO MY STOP WHEN I NOTICE MY CAR WAS TRYING TO START AGAIN WHILE IT WAS IN PARK AND I NOTICE THAT MY CAR THEN STARTED SMOKING WHILE TRYING TO START ON IT OWN AFTER THAT HAPPEN MY CAR HAS NEVER STARTED AGAIN PLEASE HELP
I SWERVED TO MISS A DEER AND I HIT A TREE RUNNING 47 MPH AND MY AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY AND NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHY. MY HUSBAND AND I WERE VERY LUCKY BUT WHY DIDN'T THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY? MY HUSBAND WAS OUT OF WORK FOR 5 MONTHS DUE TO TORN LIGAMENTS IN HIS SHOULDERS AND STILL HAS TO HAVE SURGERY.
I WAS DRIVING ON 58 WEST IN STUART VA WHEN WE CAME AROUND A CURVE AND AN 18 WHEELER WAS BROKEN DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR LANE. TWO VEHICLES WERE STOPPED BEHIND THE TRUCK. I QUICKLY APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER BETWEEN THE STOPPED TRAFFIC AND THE ONCOMING VEHICLE IN THE OPPOSING LANE TO AVOID A CRASH. A BRAKE LINE HAD BLOWN CAUSING THE BRAKE FAILURE. I HAD ALREADY EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE IN ANOTHER GM MODEL, AND WAS QUESTIONING HOW IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT ONE PERSON COULD HAVE TWO SEPARATE BRAKE LINE FAILURES ON TWO SEPARATE BUT SIMILAR VEHICLES. AS I RESEARCHED IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THIS TYPE OF BRAKE FAILURE WAS COMMON ON THESE TYPES OF VEHICLES. I'VE LIVED IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA MY ENTIRE LIFE, AND I HAVE OWNED 30-40 VEHICLES OF ALL MAKES AND MODELS, BUT I HAVE ONLY EXPERIENCED NEAR CATASTROPHIC VEHICLE FAILURE ON TWO OF THOSE VEHICLES, A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN AND A 2002 GMC YUKON. TO SAY THAT THESE BRAKE LINE FAILURES COULD BE AVOIDED THROUGH ROUTINE MAINTENANCE IS A BRAZEN ATTEMPT TO DEFLECT CULPABILITY TOWARDS A CONSUMER MARKET NEITHER DESIGNED NOR EQUIPPED TO DIAGNOSE PENDING FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING. THESE VEHICLES HAVE INNUMERABLE SENSORS TO INDICATE ALL TYPES OF OF POTENTIAL ISSUES, EVEN SO FAR AS TO REMIND THE DRIVER WHEN THE OIL NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. IF THE MANUFACTURER FEELS THE OWNER IS SO INEPT AS TO TRACK OIL CHANGES EVERY THREE THOUSAND MILES, HOW ON EARTH DO THEY EXPECT THOSE SAME PEOPLE WOULD BE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE DEGRADATION OF BRAKE LINES, MOST OF WHICH ARE HIDDEN? I'VE NEVER BEEN TO A SHOP AND BEEN ASKED AS PART OF THE MANY SERVICES THEY OFFER, INCLUDING STATE SAFETY INSPECTIONS, "WOULD YOU LIKE US TO TEST YOUR BRAKE LINES FOR POTENTIAL FAILURE?" CV AXLES, BALL JOINTS, BRAKE PADS, ALL ARE INCLUDED IN INSPECTIONS. NOT BRAKE LINES, BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT MAINTENANCE PARTS. GM IS WHOLLY RESPONSIBLE.
EARLY IN THE MORNING I START UP THE TRUCK TO WARM IT UP. I PUT THE TRUCK IN REVERSE AND AS SOON AS I PUT THE TRUCK IN DRIVE THE "REDUCE ENGINE POWER" LIGHT COMES ON, THEN THE TRUCK GOES "LIMP MODE" (NOT ALLOWING THE TRUCK TO GO NO MORE THAN 20 MPH IN MOTION). I HAVE TO RESTART THE TRUCK 5 TIMES FOR THE "REDUCE ENGINE POWER" LIGHT TO TURN OFF. LEAVING THE "SERVICE ENGINE" LIGHT ON. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS EVERY MORNING, NO MATTER HOE LONG I WARM UP THE TRUCK. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK 3 YEARS AGO FROM A USED CAR LOT, AND I DIDNT START HAVING ISSUES UNTIL 1 YEAR AGO. THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY SEEMS TO BE THE ISSUE WITH ALL GM VEHICLES.
ADD ME TO THE CHECK YOUR AIRBAG LAWSUIT
THE FIRST OCCURANCE WAS A YEAR AGO WHEN DRIVING TO PLAY GOLF. WHEN I WAS ABOUT ONE MILE FROM THE COURSE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN DEPRESSED. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE TO THE COURSE AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK. THE REPAIR WAS MADE BY THE LOCAL DEALER. HE ASKED ME IF I LIVED AT THE COAST DUE TO THE CORROSION FOUND ON THE BRAKE LINE. I DO NOT LIVE NEAR THE COAST AND THE VEHICLE IS GARAGE KEPT WITH ONLY 102,000 MILES ON IT. MOST RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN, I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. IT WENT TO THE FLOOR AND WAS VERY SLOW TO STOP. IN MY ESTIMATION, THIS IS VERY POOR WORKMANSHIP ON BEHALF OF GENERAL MOTORS! I HOPE THAT NO PERSON HAS BEEN KILLED DUE TO THIS DEFECT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS CEASED TO FUNCTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ODOMETER, SPEEDOMETER, AND VARIOUS GAUGES WERE NOT VISIBLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 231,256.
THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD A LONG HISTORY OF NEEDED BRAKE WORK. BRAKES WERE RECENTLY CHANGED AGAIN AND IT STILL HAS SOFT BRAKING AS WELL AS PULSATING BRAKING. BOTH OF THESE FACTORS LEAD TO DANGEROUSLY SLOW STOPPING EVEN WITH PRACTICALLY NEW PARTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON XL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE JUMPED AND HESITATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED CASE NUMBER 8-3140697651. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
VEHICLE JUST STALLS WITHOUT WARNING. ENGINE SHUTS DOWN WITH NO CODES ON DASH OR IN MEMORY. WILL RESTART AFTER 4-5 MINUTES BUT WILL STALL INTERMITTENTLY AFTERWARD.
WHILE COMING TOWARDS AN INTERSECTION, THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME HIT HER BRAKES SUDDENLY. I REACTED BY HITTING ME BRAKES AND WHILE I WAS SLOWING DOWN MY BRAKE PETAL SUDDENLY WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. I WAS TRAVELING APPROX 5-10 MPH WHEN I HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. AFTER MOVING OUR VEHICLES FROM THE ROAD, I DISCOVERED BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM UNDER MY ENGINE. I INSPECTED THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR AND THE MASTER CYLINDER... BOTH LOOKED NORMAL. I GOT UNDER THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK AND I COULD SEE BRAKE FLUID HAD BEEN SPRAYED ALL OVER THE LOWER FRONT OF THE ENGINE AND FRONT BUMPER. I COULD SEE THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE VERY RUSTY. BEFORE THE ACCIDENT THERE WASN'T ANY INDICATION THAT I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY BRAKES. I SEEMS AS THOUGH THE BRAKE LINE JUST FAILED. I WAS TRAVELING ON A LOCAL ROAD IN A STRAIGHT LINE APPROX 30-35 MPH WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED.
GOT HOME AROUND 11:30PM. AT 2:30AM WAS AWAKEN BY A HONK, TO FIND OUT MY GMC YUKON WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES AROUND THE HOOD. THE VECHICLE WAS PARKED ON OUR DRIVE WAY DOING NOTHING ON JUST SITTING THERE.
THIS VEHICLE CAME WITH FACTORY TOW PACKAGE. BRAKE LINES, REAR, WERE REPAIRED A YEAR AGO. TOWING A HORSE TRAILER WITH HORSE ( APPROX 6500 LBS TOTAL ), THE FRONT BREAK LINE FROM THE ABS MODULE BROKE AND PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR WHILE EXITING 90W ONTO 84W. TRAILER BRAKES FINALLY STOPPED THE VEHICLE A FEW INCHES FROM THE AUTO IN FRONT OF US . THIS WAS ON NEW YEARS EVE THIS YEAR, AND 2:00PM IN THE AFTERNOON. FOUND A GARAGE/MECHANIC TO REPAIR THE FRONT LINE. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT INVOLVING A NUMBER OF CARS AND TRUCKS. I HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED AT EVERY OIL CHANGE, AND HAVE IT REPAIRED WHEN NEEDED. I HAVE READ OF MANY ISSUES WITH THE (CHEAP ) BRAKE LINES GM HAS USED IN THESE VEHICLES( 1999 TO 2003 ), AND AS THEY GET OLDER, THEY ARE JUST AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. GM SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES, AND FIX THE PROBLEM WITH CORRODING BREAK LINES. ESPECIALLY WITH THEIR " PROFESSIONAL GRADE" ADVERTISEMENTS. VERY MISLEADING. *TR
TAKATA RECALL TRAVELING AT SPEED OF 50 MPH ON A COUNTY HIGHWAY ANOTHER VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF YUKON. FRONT OF YUKON IMPACTED THE REAR OF OTHER VEHICLE CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF YUKON. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. YUKON WAS TOTALLED.
WHEN BRAKING, THE ANTILOCK BRAKES KICK IN NO MATTER IF NEEDED OR NOT. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS ON BOTH CITY STREETS & HIGHWAYS. THE CAR WAS ALREADY RECALLED AND FIXED FOR FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CORROSION, 05V379000, AND THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING AGAIN. THE SENSOR WAS NOT REPLACED, JUST CLEANED AND PUT BACK IN. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM WHEN THE CORROSION CAN COME BACK AND DID. IT WAS JUST 30,000 MILES LATER. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO A DEALER AND HAVE CALLED GM. WE WERE TOLD THE RECALL IS FIXED AND IT WILL COST US $423.00 PER SIDE TO FIX PLUS TAX. PLEASE HELP AND LET US KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT.
FOR THE SECOND TIME IN AN APPROXIMATE 12 MONTH PERIOD, I HAD TO REPLACE A BRAKE LINE FAILURE. UNTIL NOW, I DIDN'T KNOW THAT GM HAS A "REPLACEMENT REBUILD KIT". HOWEVER, THE FIRST TIME MY SISTER WAS DRIVING AND HAD A BRAKE FAILURE WITH A CAR LOAD OF FAMILY ABOARD, IN JACKSONVILLE FL. A NATIONALLY KNOWN COMPANY REPLACED THE PORTION OF THE BRAKE LINE THAT RUPTURED, BUT THEY DID WARN ME THAT RUST WAS RAMPART BECAUSE OF THE SALT. YESTERDAY, I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON I495, D.C. BELTWAY AT 50 MPH, WHERE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TRAVEL DAILY AND I HAD ANOTHER CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE AT 50 MPH. THAT SCENARIO, JUST THINKING ABOUT IT AGAIN, SCARED ME HALF TO DEATH AND I JUST FIXED THE SAME THING LAST YEAR FOR 600.00+ AND UNEXPECTEDLY IT HAPPENS AGAIN. ONLY BY THE GRACE OF GOD, NO ONE WAS INJURED OR KILLED OR HAD SUBSTANTIAL PROPERTY DAMAGE. WHAT I FOUND OUT LATER AFTER INVESTIGATING THIS PROBLEM, AND THE SAME COMPANY WHO REPLACED THE FIRST BRAKE LINE SAID IT WOULD BE 1500.00 TO FIX A PORTION OF THE BRAKE LINE. THIS ISSUE IS WELL KNOWN BY GM AND HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED FOR 5 YEARS AND GM DID NOT DO A RECALL BECAUSE MOST WARRANTIES HAVE EXPIRED. HOWEVER, WITH THE SNOW-BELTS STATES SALTING THE ROADS HAVE DAMAGED MANY GM AND OTHER VEHICLES. FROM 1999 TO 2007 GM TRUCKS AND SUVS WERE USING NON-PV COATED BRAKE LINES. BY THESE BRAKE LINES NOT BEING COATED WITH PROTECTANT, CORROSION RUNS RAMPART ON YOUR BRAKE LINE SYSTEM, THIS IS PROBABLE IN ALL THE AFOREMENTIONED VEHICLES. I THINK THAT EVERY DEALER SHOULD DO THIS REPLACEMENT FOR THE GM RECOMMEND PRICE. I TALKED TO MY SERVICE MANAGER AT CHEVY/GM TODAY AND HE SAID GM DOESN'T OWN THIS DEALERSHIP AND THE RECOMMENDED TIME TO INSTALL (4.5 HOURS) @ 100.00 PER HOUR IS NOT REALISTIC. I SAID YOU SALE AND SERVICE THESE VEHICLES, YET NO ONE WANTS TO STEP UP TO FIX THEM UNTIL SOME GETS KILLED, THAT'S RIDICULOUS.
TWO YEARS AGO I HAD A SEVER ACCIDENT THAT CAUSE ME TO HIT ANOTHER CAR AND SPIN AROUND. THE GMC DEALER SAID THE CAUSE WAS RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES. TODAY IT HAPPENED, BUT I WAS LUCK ENOUGH TO BE JUST PULLING INTO MY PARKING SPOT WHEN IT HAPPENED. THE BRAKE LINE MUST HAVE RUSTED OUT AGAIN BECAUSE I PUMPED THE BRAKE AND NOTICED IT COMING OUT OF THE LEFT REAR LINE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT WILL LIKELY ONLY HAPPEN WHEN YOU ARE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. THERE IS NO PRE WARNING. IT WILL JUST HAPPEN. PERHAPS THEY ARE MAKING THE BRAKE LINES OUT OF THINNER MATERIAL BECAUSE WE HAVE MANY VEHICLES MUCH OLDER, AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE ABS ENGAGED WITHOUT WARNING WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE ISSUE MADE IT DIFFICULT TO STOP THE VEHICLE FOR AT LEAST FIVE CAR LENGTHS. THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME STIFF AND THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP ONLY AFTER THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED SEVERAL TIMES. THE HYDRAULIC PUMP MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME PARALLEL PARKING WITHOUT THE VEHICLE ROLLING AWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.
I DROVE APPROX. 30 MILES TO MY DESTINATION WITHOUT ANY TROUBLE. I SPENT ABOUT 2 HOURS THERE THEN STARTED MY 2002 YUKON XL TO HEAD BACK HOME. UPON MOVING THE VEHICLE I REALIZED I HAD VERY LIMITED BREAKING POWER. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I DREAD THINKING ABOUT WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE HEADING HOME. MY MECHANIC SAID THE BRAKE LINE FAILED CAUSING THE REAR BRAKES TO LOSE ALL STOPPING POWER. HE SAID HE HAS SEEN SEVERAL CASES OF THIS SAME PROBLEM ON EARLY 2000'S GMC TRUCKS AND SUV'S. I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND FOUND MANY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ONLINE. GMC SHOULD STAND BEHIND THIS AND PAY TO REPAIR THIS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE PART REPLACEMENT. THIS WILL BE AN $800 REPAIR FOR ME AND A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT IN GMC IF THEY DON'T STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES.

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT BRAKE FLUID HAD LEAKED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY RUSTED BRAKE LINES. THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED AND THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
TREAD SEPARATED FROM COOPER TIRE DISCOVERY H/T AND THEN BLEW OUT AS THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT 65 MPH ON THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NO AUTO ACCIDENT, BUT THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO DECELERATE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKE IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR DIAGNOSED. WHILE TURNING INTO A MALL PARKING LOT FROM A MAIN STREET, APPLIED BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN INTO THE PARKING LOT FOR A VEHICLE TO PASS IN FRONT OF ME. WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING THE BREAK PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP EVEN FROM A SLOW SPEED. LUCKLY I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AROUND THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE THE BREAKS SEEMED TO FAIL ABOUT 95%. I PUMPED THE BREAKS A FEW TIME AND GOT INTO THE CLOSEST PARKING SPACE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE DO TO SUDDEN BREAK FAILURE. THE REPAIR GARAGE CERTIFIED MECHANIC SAID THE BREAK LINE HAD RUSTED THRU AND THE BREAK FLUID WAS RAPIDLY LEAKING. I HAD THE GARAGE REPLACE ALL THE ENTIRE RUSTED BREAK LINES ($646.00) TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE SAFELY AND AVOID ANOTHER SUDDEN BREAK FAILURE DUE TO RUSTED BREAK LINES. OTHERWISE THE CAR HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE FOR AND IN EXCELLENT RUNNING CONDITION. MY MECHANIC SAID THEY HAD REPAIRED SEVERAL GMC VEHICLES WITH THIS IDENTICAL PROBLEM. I BELIEVE GMC HAS SOLD A CAR WITH DEFECTIVE SAFETY PARTS WHICH HAVE WORN PREMATURELY. *TR

NHTSA HAS RECOMMENDED A RECALL. DESPITE GMC CORPORATE STATEMENTS THAT THE FIX/REPLACEMENT OF BRAKE LINES WILL COST $500 (PARTS AND LABOR) THE GMC DEALER IN MY AREA (DANVERS, MA) HAS QUOTED ME OVER $1,200 AND CLAIMS IGNORANCE TO THE $500 CLAIM. I BELIEVE THIS REPAIR SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO RECALL AND CORRECTION BY GMC AT NO COST TO ME THE OWNER. *TR

WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN I ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES. THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR. I PUMPED THEM REPEATEDLY WHICH DID NOT HELP MUCH AT ALL. I WAS NOT ABLE TO SLOW DOWN, MUCH LESS STOP AT THE STOP SIGN. WITH NO CHOICE, I ROUNDED THE TURN AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THANKFULLY THE APPROACHING VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO AVOID ME. HAD I ARRIVED AT THE INTERSECTION A FEW SECONDS LATER THE RESULT WOULD HAVE LIKELY BEEN DIFFERENT. AS THIS OCCURRED LATE AT NIGHT WITH ALMOST NO TRAFFIC, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED WITH HEAVY BRAKE PUMPING. UPON INSPECTION IN MY DRIVEWAY I WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT A CORRODED BRAKE LINE THAT LEADS TO THE REAR BRAKES HAD BURST. THE PLACEMENT OF THIS PART ON TOP OF THE FRAME RAIL PREVENTS INSPECTION BY OWNERS. *TR
TODAY MY WIFE TOOK OUR VERY GOOD CONDITION WELL MAINTAINED GARAGE KEPT 2002 GMC YUKON TO DUNKIN DONUTS TO GET COFFEE. SHE WAS STOPPED IN THE DRIVE THRU LINE WHEN SHE HEARD AN AIR SOUND AS HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE WENT TO THE FLOOR, SHE WAS ABLE TO LIMP HOME, ABOUT A MILE, BY PUMPING THE BRAKES AND IT WAS EARLY SO NOBODY WAS ON THE ROAD. INDEED THE BRAKE LINE ABOVE THE FUEL TANK WAS BROKEN, I KNOW BECAUSE I DROPPED THE FUEL TANK. WE WERE LUCKY SHE DIDN'T GET IN AN ACCIDENT AND WE WEREN'T ON VACATION FAR AWAY. I ALSO FLUSH OUT THE BRAKE LINES WITH NEW FLUID EVERY TIME I CHANGE THE BRAKE PADS. I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH CARS MUCH OLDER THAN OURS AND NO BRAKE LINE ISSUES. WE ALSO HAD BRAKE LINE ISSUES WITH A 2003 GMC YUKON XL. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS SINCE THIS IS NOT NORMAL. WHILE DRIVING OUR 2002YUKON DENALI WITH 105,000 MILES WE HAD BRAKE FAILURE FOR THE SECOND TIME. WE WERE TOWING OUR 21 FOOT GULF STREAM AMERILITE TRAVEL TRAILER AND WHEN THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US STEPPED ON THEIR BRAKES MY HUSBAND ATTEMPTED TO BEGIN SLOWING DOWN. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, WE HAD NO BRAKES. IT IS A MIRACLE THAT WE WERE NOT KILLED. THIS IS THE SECOND BRAKE LINE RUPTURE WITHIN THE PAST TWO YEARS SINCE WE HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE IS EXTEMELY WELL MAINTAINED. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. IT HAS BEEN VERY EXPENSIVE TO HAVE OUR VEHICLE TOWED TWICE AND REPAIRED. I WILL BE CONTACTING GMC AND ASKING FOR REIMBURSEMENT. OUR LIVES AND THE LIVES OF MANY OTHERS HAVE BEEN PUT IN DANGER HERE. TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 35MPH, APPLIED BRAKES FOR UPCOMING STOP SIGN AND BRAKES FAILED. INSPECTION REVEALED THAT BRAKE LINE BROKE AS THE RESULT OF CORROSION TO LINE AT REAR AXLE. MECHANIC STATES ALL BRAKE LINES DEMONSTRATING UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF RUSING, ALL BRAKE LINES REPLACED. MECHANIC STATES FRAME WILL BE RUSTED THROUGH SOON IF NOT BLASTED AND RUSTPROOFED; ALSO STATES THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON NEARLY ALL GM TRUCKS HE SEES. *TR
THE REAR DOOR WILL NOT OPEN AND IS LOCKED IN PLACE. IT WAS A VERY HOT DAY AND I COULD NOT GET MY LUGGAGE OUT OF THE BACK OF THE CAR BECAUSE THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN AND THERE WAS NO MANUAL SWITCH TO UNLOCK THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. *JS
WHILE BRAKING FROM A SPEED OF 45 MPH TO STOP FOR A TRAFFIC SIGNAL, THE BRAKES FAILED. I WAS ABLE TO ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE SEVERAL FEET PAST THE STOP LINE. FORTUNATELY, NO ACCIDENT RESULTED FROM THIS INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL SHOP WHERE THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD FAILED AT A 90 DEGREE BEND DUE TO CORROSION. UPON RESEARCH, THE SHOP SAID THAT A SERVICE BULLETIN HAD BEEN ISSUED STATING THAT THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT IS SUBJECT TO CORROSION AT EVERY POINT WHERE THERE IS A MOUNTING BRACKET ATTACHING IT TO THE VEHICLE. *TR
