DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ON MY 2002 YUKON DENALI, HEAVY RUST/CORROSION WAS FIRST IDENTIFIED ON THE BRAKE LINE THAT RUNS UNDER THE RADIATOR. AS I FOLLOWED IT BACK, MORE RUST/CORROSION IS VISIBLE. THEY ARE RUSTING/CORRODING IN EXPOSED AS WELL AS PROTECTED AREAS. CONCERNED FOR SAFETY AND A POTENTIAL FAILURE I STARTED TO INVESTIGATE, ON LINE, AND FOUND THAT THIS ISSUE HAS AFFECTED MANY TRUCKS AND SUV'S IN AND AROUND MY MODEL YEAR. I ALSO FOUND THAT GM IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT HAS FAILED TO INITIATE A RECALL. VEHICLES OF THIS SIZE ARE PURCHASED FOR LARGE FAMILIES, TOWING AND HAULING HEAVY LOADS. ALL THE MORE REASON FOR GM TO RECOGNIZE THE POTENTIAL DANGER AND ACT ACCORDINGLY. *TR
STEPPED ON BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS ENOUGH ROOM IN ANOTHER LANE TO EVENTUALLY SLOW DOWN WITHOUT A COLLISION. GOT UNDER REAR OF VEHICLE AND LOCATED LEAKING BRAKE FLUID LINE. RIGHT REAR PASSENGER BRAKE LINE. *TR
ONE OF THE TWO STEEL BRAKE LINES BETWEEN THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE ABS MODULE FAILED UPON APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, CAUSING A SEVERE BRAKE FLUID LEAK NEAR THE ABS MODULE, LOW BRAKE PEDAL EFFICACY, LOW BRAKE PEDAL RETURN PRESSURE AND SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE AS I MANEUVERED THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOPPING LOCATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON XL 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED BRAKE FLUID WOULD SPEW OUT FROM THE BRAKE LINES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
DURING LOW SPEED THE ABS KICKS IN ON NO SLIP CONDITIONS CAUSING IT TO TAKE LONGER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THIS STARTED OCCURRING IN JUNE 2014. I SEE A RECALL ON 2002 YUKON XL VEHICLES FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT IT DOES NOT SHOW UP ON THE VIN REPORT. *TR
ABS BRAKE MODULE IS NOT HERMETICALLY SEALED WITH AN O-RING GASKET. BECAUSE OF THIS MOISTURE CAN GET INSIDE MODULE AND DAMAGE INTERNAL COMPONENTS. DAMAGED UNITS CAUSE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS IN DASHBOARD TO LIGHT UP. *TR FAILURE OF ABS BRAKE MODULE CAN CAUSE ABS BRAKES TO LOCK UP WHEN BRAKING QUICKLY AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 20 MPH.
BRAKES FAILED AS I TRIED TO STOP. ALL BRAKE LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AND IS ALWAYS KEPT IN A DRY GARAGE. *TR
WHILE BLEEDING THE BRAKE SYSTEM AFTER A BRAKE JOB THE STEEL BRAKES LINES FAILED. DURING THE INSPECTION OF THE STEEL LINES IT WAS FOUND THAT ALL THE STEEL LINES WERE RUSTED SEVERELY TO THE POINT OF FAILURE. FAILURE MEANING A LARGE HOLE IN THE STEEL LINE FROM RUST. ALL STEEL LINES WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. *TR
I TRIED TO STOP AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE ABS ACTIVATED WITHOUT ANY REASON. THE ROADS WERE CLEAN AND DRY. THERE WAS NOT ANY WARNING INDICATOR FOR THE ABS BRAKES, I AM TOLD THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE BUT THE DEALER SAYS MINE WAS ALREADY DONE. OBVIOUSLY THE FIX WAS NOT EFFECTIVE IF I AM EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM NOW. *TR
I NOTICED SOME FLUID UNDER THE MIDDLE OF VEHICLE AND THOUGHT IT WAS WATER BUT AS I WAS HEADING TO CHURCH SUNDAY NIGHT MY BRAKE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, WAS VERY DISTURBING AND SCARY TO ME BUT WAS ABLE TO STOP AND GET HOME SAFELY. NEXT DAY IN THE DAYLIGHT I CHECK OUT MY FLUID AND THE BRAKE FLUID BOX WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY! TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND LEAKING PER SAY $1500 JOB TO FIX. ALSO, INFORMED THAT I NEEDED A NEW WATER PUMP TOO. I JUST REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP 2 WEEKS BEFORE THIS OCCURRED. GMC NEEDS TO MAKE THIS A RECALL IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TT
AFTER A MORNING OF DRIVING AROUND TOWN DOING ERRANDS I RETURNED HOME WITH GROCERIES. WHILE THERE I DECIDED TO SWAP OUT MY REVERSE LIGHT BULBS BEFORE DRIVING MY SON TO BASEBALL PRACTICE. WHILE MAKING THIS MAINTENANCE REPAIR THE BRAKES ON MY TRUCK FAILED COMPLETELY. THE BRAKES SANK ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO KEEP THE TRUCK FROM BACKING INTO THE CARS PARKED ACROSS THE STREET BEHIND ME..AND THAT I HAD NOT GONE RIGHT OUT TO DRIVE MY SON TO BASEBALL. WHEN I GOT OUT TO INSPECT THE BRAKE LINES HAD COMPLETELY IMPLODED AND BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING EVERYWHERE. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP I WAS TOLD MY BRAKES HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON XL. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER EIGHT ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS FAULTY. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED FOR THE 2001 GMC YUKON MODEL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,700.
THE BRAKE LIGHT CAN ON IN THE DASH, 2-11-14, CALLED THE GMC DEALER, PELLEGINO BUICK/GMC, 815 N BLACK HORSE PIKE, WILLIAMSTOWN, NJ 08094, PHONE 856-629-0101.THEY ADDED BRAKE FLUID AND SAID NO LEAKS. MILEAGE AT DEALER 135074. I DROVE ABOUT 40 MILES, THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME BACK ON, I CALLED DEALER AND DROVE RIGHT BACK TO THEM.. THEY CHECKED AGAIN AND SAID THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED, IT WAS FULLY COATED WITH RUST. IT IS SO BAD THEY CAN NOT USE A WRENCH TO GET NUTS OFF. BECAUSE OF ALL THE RUST ON THE BRAKE LINES. NEED TO CHANGE THE LINES, CALIPERS, AND ROTORS, TOTAL COST APPROX $1,400.00 WILL ADVISE MORE WHEN YUKON IS RETURNED REPAIRED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE ABS AND THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE HUB ASSEMBLIES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DRIVER SIDE HUB ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS NOT REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07E106000 (WHEELS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 240,000.
DRIVING ON RT 22 IN NJ AT 55MPH WHEN TRAFFIC LIGHT CHANGED TO RED AND STEPPED ON BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE CAR ONLY SLOWED SLIGHTLY AND ENDED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION BEFORE IT STOPPED. LUCKY THAT IT WAS IN THE MID AFTERNOON AND THE TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT BECAUSE THE DISTANCE TO STOP WAS ABOUT 5 TIMES THE NORMAL DISTANCE AND HAD TO USE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR. THERE WAS A SUDDEN FAILURE OF THE BRAKE LINE DUE TO CORROSION, I HAD THE CAR INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC, CAUSING THE PRESSURE TO DROP IN THE SYSTEM. AFTER THE INCIDENT I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR YEARS WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL. I AM A SURGEON AND FIND IT WORRISOME THAT THIS AGENCY HAS NOT RECALLED THIS DEFECT AND THAT GMC HAS NOT NOTIFIED CONSUMERS OF THE POSSIBILITY SO THEY CAN HAVE THE BRAKE LINES CHANGED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON XL DENALI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT THE FAILURE REOCCURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKE HUB ASSEMBLY TO MALFUNCTION. AS A RESULT, THE BRAKE HUB ASSEMBLY, THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY AND THE TRANSFER CASE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 165,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 220,000.
BRAKE LINES SEVERELY RUSTED, BRAKING FLUID LEAKING, NEEDED FULL REPLACEMENT. *TR
BRAKE FLUID LEAKING - BRAKES WENT OUT. FOUND A PREMATURE LEAK IN A BRAKE LINE ABOUT 12 INCHES BELOW THE MASTER CYLINDER. ALL LINES ARE SEVERELY CORRODED AND MUST BE REPLACED. *TR
I HAVE JUST SUBMITTED A FIRST COMPLAINT # 10552595 FOR DEFECTIVE GMC YUKON BRAKE LINES. I AM NOW SUBMITTING SECOND COMPLAINT FOR A SUBSEQUENT INCIDENT WITH THE SAME VEHICLE. ON OCT. 5, 2013 I WAS DRIVING ALONE TO THE SUPERMARKET IN PENNSYLVANIA. AS I WAS STOPPING FOR AN UPCOMING STOP SIGN, MY BRAKES FAILED TO OPERATE, AGAIN! THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. AS THERE WAS ALMOST NO STOPPING POWER LEFT, I AGAIN PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND DOWNSHIFTED TO LOW, AND PARTIALLY SLOWED, AND STOPPED JUST AFTER THE INTERSECTION. I WAS WITHIN SIGHT OF MY AUTO SHOP, AND I VERY SLOWLY PROCEEDED THROUGH ONE ADDITIONAL INTERSECTION TO THE SHOP. WHEN I PULLED INTO HIS PARKING LOT, I COULD SEE THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE FLUID WAS RUNNING OUT OF THE REAR BRAKE LINE ONTO THE PAVEMENT! MY MECHANIC NOW TOLD ME THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED TO THE POINT OF CAUSING A MAJOR BRAKE FLUID LOSS. HE REPLACED THE REAR BRAKE LINES WITH STAINLESS STEEL TUBING AND FITTINGS. I HAD TO PAY $509.45 TO MAKE THIS ADDITIONAL BRAKE LINE REPAIR. BASED UPON THE NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING THESE DANGEROUS AND DEFECTIVE GMC BRAKE LINES IN THE 'RUST STATES' INCLUDING MY HOME IN PENNSYLVANIA, THE US GOVT MUST NOW FORCE GMC TO RECALL THESE INFERIOR CORROSIVE BRAKE LINES TO AVOID THE CHANCE FOR FATAL ACCIDENTS. GMC SHOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR MY COSTS, NOW TOTALING $ 994.80. THIS IS NOW THE SECOND NHTSA INCIDENT COMPLAINT I HAVE FILED IN 2013 FOR THE TOTAL FAILURE OF MY CORRODED AND BURST GMC YUKON BRAKE LINES. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN UNTIL THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED REPEATEDLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT PRIOR TO THE FAILURE WHILE SHIFTING FROM PARK INTO REVERSE, THE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD UPON ENGAGEMENT. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE ENTIRE BRAKE AND FUEL LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
THE REAR MAIN BRAKE LINE BROKE RIGHT HALF INTO WHEN I HAD TO APPLY A VERY HARD STOP ON INTERSTATE 64 I WAS TRAVELING AT 65 MPH WHEN A SMALL CAR ABRUPTLY CHANGED LANES THERE WASN'T EFFICIENT ENOUGH SPACE FOR THE CAR TO MOVE IN AS HE MOVED OVER I HAD TO HIT MY BRAKE RATHER HARD TO GIVE THIS IDIOT ENOUGH ROOM TO MERGE IN THE ABS KICKED IN AND THE TIRES SQUEALED I CAME VERY VERY CLOSE TO REAR ENDING THIS GUY BUT I HAD JUST ENOUGH BRAKE TO SLOW MY CAR UP WITHOUT INCIDENT AFTER THAT MY BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN I EXITED THE INTERSTATE SOMEHOW IT DID STOP LUCKY ME. SOON AS I SAW A STORE I STOPPED AND PURCHASED 4 CANS OF BRAKE FLUID REFILLED THE RESERVOIR AND MADE IT HOME WITH THAT. I JACKED MY YUKON UP AND SAW A VERY RUSTY STEEL LINE BROKE OFF AT THE FITTING IT DIDN'T PULL OUT OF THE FITTING IT ACTUALLY BROKE INTO AND OF COURSE FLUID WAS EVERYWHERE. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN A BAD DISASTER THERE WAS A LOT OF TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE RIGHT AT THE PEAK OF THE DAY WHEN EVERYONE WAS LEAVING WORK TRYING TO GET HOME. I AM THANKING MY LUCKY STARS I MADE IT HOME SAFE. NOW I HAVE TO FIGURE OUT THE REPAIR PART OF THIS WHOLE THING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, HE CRASHED INTO THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS FILED TO DEPLOY WITH THE IMPACT. IN ADDITION, THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO SECURE AS DESIGNED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A BRUISED RIB AND AN INJURY TO THE LEFT LEG. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A SALVAGE FACILITY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATELY FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,000.
HIT BRAKES, STARTED TO SLOW THEN PEDDLE DROPPED, NO WARNING LIGHT . PEDDLE SANK TO FLOOR ,PUMPED PEDDLE TO STOP, HIT LIGHTPOLE AFTER WHICH BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON . ON INSPECTION ,BRAKE LINE BETWEEN ABS BOX AND REAR AXLE BADLY RUSTED , FAILED AT POINT ABOVE CROSSMEMBER ,IN FRONT OF GAS TANK. HAVE HAD ABOUT 16 CARS ,NEVER SAW LINE RUST THIS BAD ON A CAR LESS THEN 20 YEARS OLD. *TR
STEPPED ON BRAKE PEDAL AND BRAKES FAILED TO STOP VEHICLE. INSPECTED VEHICLE AND NOTICED RUSTED BRAKE LINES FAILED.I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. *TR
I WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY AND STARTED TO BRAKE AND THEN THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD THE STAND ON IT TO SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO KEEP FROM HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. UPON EXAMINATION OF THE VEHICLE I FOUND A RUPTURED BRAKE LINE. FURTHER REVIEW FOUND ALL 4 LINES 8 INCHES BELOW THE MASTER CYLINDER AND LOWER SERIOUSLY CORRODED. FLUID RESERVOIR WAS STILL FULL OF FLUID. THE LINE BROKE OUT UNDER THE CARRIAGE, FRONT DRIVER SIDE, JUST BEHIND THE FRONT WHEEL WELL. PICTURES ARE AVAILABLE OF THE CORRODED LINES. *TR
2002 GMC YUKON SUFFERED MULTIPLE BRAKELINE FAILURES DUE TO CORROSION. REAR BRAKE LINES RUNNING ALONG THE AXLE WERE ORIGINALLY REPLACED UPON VISUAL INSPECTION. THE REAR MAIN LINE FROM THE ABS MODULATOR FAILED SHORTLY AFTER FROM A CORROSION INDUCED LEAK WHERE THE LINE PASSES OVER THE FUEL TANK. THE FRONT LINES WERE SCHEDULED FOR REPLACEMENT AS A PRECAUTION BUT FAILED PRIOR TO REPAIR WHERE THE LINE PASSES OVER THE RADIATOR BRACE. ALL BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES SHOW SIGNIFICANT CORROSION DAMAGE. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN APPLIED AT 30 MPH. ALL LINES AND HOSES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED, NOT MERELY SURFACE RUSTED. BRAKE HOSE NUTS RUSTED TO CALIPERS, COULD NOT BE REMOVED, REQUIRING 2 CALIPERS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
ON APRIL 19, 2013 I WAS DRIVING WITH MY DAUGHTER IN WILMINGTON DE TO THE AMTRAK STATION. APPROXIMATELY 3 BLOCKS AWAY FROM ARRIVING, MY BRAKES FAILED AS I ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. AS THERE WAS ALMOST NO STOPPING POWER LEFT, I PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND DOWNSHIFTED TO LOW, AND PARTIALLY SLOWED, STOPPED IN THE LAST SECTION OF THE INTERSECTION. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY AUTO SHOP. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THE FRONT BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED TO THE POINT OF CAUSING A MAJOR BRAKE FLUID LOSS. HE REPLACED THE BRAKE LINES WITH STAINLESS STEEL TUBING AND FITTINGS. I HAD TO PAY $485.35 TO MAKE THIS REPAIR. I NOW KNOW NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING THESE DANGEROUS AND DEFECTIVE GMC BRAKE LINES IN THE 'RUST STATES' INCLUDING MY HOME IN PENNSYLVANIA. THE US GOVT SHOULD FORCE GMC TO RECALL THESE INFERIOR CORROSIVE BRAKE LINES TO AVOID THE CHANCE FOR FATAL ACCIDENTS, AND GMC SHOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR MY COSTS. I HAVE REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER DID NOT HELP, TRUCK NEEDS ALL NEW BRAKE LINES DUE TO RUST. I HAVE QUICKLY MOVE AROUND CARS TO PREVENT A ACCIDENT, DUE TO THIS BRAKE FAILURE. SINCE I AM IN SOUTH FLORIDA GM WON'T FIX THIS KNOWN MANUFACTURE DEFECT BECAUSE SF IS NOT A "SALT BELT" STATE, BUT I LIVE ON THE BEACH AND THE SALT WATER HAS STARTED TO HAVE A MAJOR IMPACT JUST LIKE THE NORTHERN STATES ON THESE FAULTY BRAKE LINES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MICHELIN FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000.
WHILE PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAY, I PUSHED BRAKE BEFORE ENTERING STREET - PUSHED ALL THE WAY DOWN, BUT HAD NO BRAKE ACTION. WAS BRAKING FINE DAY BEFORE. *TR
WHILE UNDER VEHICLE TO REPLACE GAS FILTER IT HAD BECOME EVIDENT TO ME THAT THE BRAKE LINES WHERE THEY ENTER THE ABS UNIT WERE FAIRLY RUSTED. AS I INVESTIGATED FURTHER TO AREAS NOT EASILY VISIBLE I HAD DISCOVERED THAT ALL THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES ARE EXTREMELY RUSTED AND IMMINENT FAILURE IS EVIDENT. IN MENTIONING THIS TO A FRIEND HE SUGGEST I CHECK ON LINE AS HE HAD HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. I WAS ABSOLUTELY TAKEN ABACK TO SEE HOW COMMON THIS FAILURE IS ON THESE VEHICLES AND THAT GMC IS AWARE OF IT, YET THEY HAVE NEVER APPRISED ME OF THIS "POSSIBLE CONDITION"' AND THAT I SHOULD TAKE NECESSARY ACTION TO PREVENT FAILURE WHICH COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH ! I HAVE BEEN A MECHANIC FOR MANY YEARS AND HAD WORKED FOR GM SOME YEARS BACK. I HAVE NEVER OBSERVED SUCH DETERIORATION IN A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE. THIS VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY WELL MAINTAINED IN BOTH PERIODIC AND PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE. I DO NOT LIVE BY THE WATER, WE LIVE IN A MODERATE CLIMATE AND VEHICLE IS NOT SUBJECT TO ANYTHING BUT NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. I HAVE (COLLECTIBLE VINTAGE CARS) OLDEST BEING 36 YEARS OLD AND THE LINES ON ALL CARS LOOK NEW OR IN GOOD SHAPE. TO MY FURTHER DISSATISFACTION I HAD CONTACTED GMC AND THEY DENY ANY KNOWLEDGE OF THIS PROBLEM OR CONDITION. WHILE STOPPING FOR THE STOP SIGN DOWN THE BLOCK FROM MY HOUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I COULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK, I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK HOME AND FOUND OUT THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING THE BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK OUT.
IN DECEMBER 2012 WE WERE TRAVELING WHEN MY HUSBAND WENT TO HIT THE BRAKES, THEY COMPLETELY GAVE WAY AND STUCK ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FLOOR. IN PANIC HE TRIED EVERY MANEUVER POSSIBLE AS WE WERE COMING UP ON AN L CURVE THAT QUICKLY LED TO A STOP SIGN ENTERING A MAJOR INTERSECTION. AS WE MADE THE L CURVE, TWO MOTORCYCLISTS WERE AT THE LIGHT AND WE WERE COMING STRAIGHT AT THEM AT 40 MILES AN HOUR. MAKING A MASSIVE TURN AND RISKING FLIPPING THE CAR OVER, HE HOOKED THE TRUCK TO THE RIGHT UNTO THE EMBANKMENT OF THE MAJOR ROAD BARELY AVOIDING KILLING THESE TWO MOTORCYCLIST. WE DROVE ON THE EMBANKMENT UNTIL THE CAR CAME TO A STOP. WE CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HE TOWED US TO A MD REPAIR SHOP. WE THEN RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE REPAIR MAN THAT THE BRAKES LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND THAT WE BLEW THE BRAKES LINE AND INSTANTANEOUS LOST ALL OIL. NO BRAKES LEFT WHATSOEVER. HE TOLD ME TO CALL THE DEALER AND PUSH FOR A RECALL SINCE THAT MUCH RUST WAS A SIGN OF AN ISSUE WHEN THE CAR WAS MADE. THERE WAS NO SEAL ON THE UNDER CARRIAGE. I DID AND THE GENTLEMAN AT BOYLE BUICK SAID NOT TO TOW IT IN TO THEIR SHOP AS IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AS THEY SEE IT ALL THE TIME BUT THAT GM HAS NEVER PAID FOR THESE TO BE FIXED ON A CAR OUT OF WARRANTY AND DESPITE THIS BEING A CONSTANT ISSUE THEY SEE- IT DID NOT HAVE A RECALL ON IT. HE EVEN GAVE US THE NAME OF A COMPANY THAT MAKES STAINLESS STEEL AFTERMARKET BRAKE LINES ALREADY BENDED AS THAT IS WHERE THEY BUY THEM- THEY SEE IT SO OFTEN. THIS COMPANY SPRUNG UP BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE HAD THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE THEY COULD MAKE SUBSTANTIAL MONEY PRE-FABBING THESE LINES. I KEPT MY RECEIPT FOR THESE BRAKES LINE ($1,235.00) AS I HAD TO BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE WOULD EVENTUALLY HOLD GM LIABLE FOR NOT COATING THE UNDERSIDE AND PUTTING THOUSANDS OF LIVES AT RISK. *TR

WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME WITH BRAKE PEDDLE HITTING FLOOR AND BRAKE LINE FAILURE LIGHT AND AUDIO WARNING. APPROX. ONE MONTH EARLIER, PARKING BRAKE LINE, RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKE. UPON SEARCHING FOR BRAKE LINE LEAK, I WAS FRIGHTENED ON HOW RUSTED OUT ALL THE BRAKES LINES ARE,. *TR
THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SENSORS ARE MALFUNCTIONING AND CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCES THAT COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. THE ORIGINAL RECALL WAS COMPLETED IN 2006, ACCORDING TO GMC THEY ONLY CLEANED THE PARTS AND DID NOT REPLACE THEM. AS A RESULT THERE IS SEVERE CORROSION ON THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SENSOR CAUSING INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES THAT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
I HAVE HAD 2 INCIDENTS WITH MY 02 GMC YUKON WHERE THE BRAKE LINES HAVE FAILED DUE TO EARLY AND UNEXPECTED/UNREASONABLE CORROSION WHERE THEY FAILED WITHOUT WARNING ALMOST CAUSED SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED WITH ABOUT 76,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND APPLIED THE BRAKES AS I APPROACHED THE EXIT RAMP AND THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT THE VEHICLE STOPPING. WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR I DRIFTED PAST THE EXIT AND APPROXIMATELY ANOTHER 1 MILE BEFORE FINALLY COMING TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER. AFTER GETTING THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH AND THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM THEY SEE ON GM VEHICLES. THEY WERE SURPRISED I WAS NOT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND I PAID $500 TO HAVE THE REPLACEMENT LINES FABRICATED. ABOUT A YEAR LATER WITH ABOUT 85,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING MY CHILDREN ACROSS A BRIDGE AND ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AND AGAIN THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT DOWN TO THE FLOOR NOT STOPPING THE VEHICLE AND SHE HELD DOWN THE HORN TO WARN PEDESTRIANS AND OTHER CARS. THE VEHICLE FINALLY STOPPED AFTER RUNNING 2 RED LIGHTS. THE MECHANIC INDICATED THAT ALL THE LINES COMING OUT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER/BOOSTER WERE RUSTED THROUGH AND BRAKE FLUID WAS POURING OUT. AGAIN HAVING TO FABRICATE AND REPLACE ALL THE LINES OUT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS EXPENSIVE, THIS TIME COSTING $1,500. THE NHTSA NEEDS TO DO A FULL INVESTIGATION OF THIS PROBLEM AS I HAVE HEARD MANY TIMES THAT THIS IS A FAULTY DESIGN AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS REQUIRING A RECALL. I TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY CARS, HAVE THE UNDERCARRIAGE CLEANED FREQUENTLY AND ASK MY MECHANIC TO INSPECT EVERYTHING ON THE CAR ON A BI-ANNUAL BASIS AND THESE INCIDENTS HAPPEN WITHOUT WARNING. ON OCTOBER 9TH, 2012 I ENTERED MY YUKON AT APPROXIMATELY 9PM IN A PARKING LOT IN DOWNTOWN CINCINNATI, OHIO. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND START MY VEHICLE. I SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND BEGAN BACKUP WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND NEVER REGAINED ANY BRAKE PRESSURE. I DID MANAGE TO GET MY WIFE AND I HOME SAFELY. INITIALLY, ABOUT 100 OWNERS REPORTED FAILURE OF CORRODED BRAKE LINES, RESULTING IN EITHER LENGTHY STOPPING DISTANCES OR CRASHES." "THE PROBLEM HAS ESCALATED, WITH MORE OWNERS REPORTING BRAKE LINE FAILURE, AND SO FAR GM HAS NOT KICKED-IN REPAIR DOLLARS. ESTIMATE TO REPAIR WAS $1800-2000. IM LUCKY NO-ONE WAS INJURED OR KILLED. AFTER ASKING FRIENDS AND FAMILY WHO HAVE SIMILAR GM FULLSIZE TRUCKS AND SUVS AROUND THE SAME YEAR 5 OF THEM REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE WHICH IS QUITE DISTURBING. ONE OF WHICH WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT. *TR

ALONG WITH THIS I REPLACED TWO TRANSMISSIONS, ONCE DUE TO RADIATOR FAILURE, FUEL PUMP FAILURE, BRAKE CALIPER FAILURE, A FEW SETS OF REAR PARKING BRAKE SHOES BECAUSE THE ADJUSTMENTS DONT WORK PROPERLY, THREE WINDOW REGULATORS AND ALL WITHIN 163,630 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED ON ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

BRAKES FAILED DUE TO CORROSION OF THE BRAKE LINE. BRAKING WAS NOT EXISTENT AS THE PEDAL TRAVELS TO THE FLOOR. THANK GOD FOR NOT BEING IN A BUSY STREET AND BEING ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP. THIS IS A HEAVY VEHICLE AND WITHOUT BRAKING ABILITY IT COULD EASILY KILL PEOPLE. AFTER ADDING SOME BRAKE FLUID (MOST OF WHICH LEAKED THROUGH THE BROKEN LINE) THERE'S NOT EVEN A WARNING LIGHT ON TO ALERT OF A BRAKING PROBLEM DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. THE OTHER IMPORTANT POINT TO NOTE IS THAT THE FAILURE IN THE LINE APPEARS TO HAVE HAPPENED IN A PART OF THE LINE THAT APPEARS TO BE INSIDE THE CAR FRAME WHICH MAKES IT THE MOST PROTECTED LINE FROM THE OUTSIDE ELEMENTS. IF THAT'S THE FIRST LINE TO FAIL, IT WOULD SUGGEST SUB STANDARD MATERIALS BEING USED IN MANUFACTURING THESE LINES. *TR
ON 01/03/2012 I WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL DRIVERS SIDE COLLISION,WHICH INVOLVED MY SUV AND ANOTHER CAR TRAVELING AROUND 45-50 MPH. THE IMPACT SMASHED IN THE DRIVER DOOR AND HOOD ALONG WITH OTHER DAMAGES. NEITHER FRONT AIR BAGS DELAYED WHICH RESULTED IN ME HITTING MY FACE ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND HAVING EXTENSIVE DENTAL DAMAGE. I AM NOT SURE WHAT CONTRIBUTIONS ARE NEEDED TO DEPLOY AIRBAGS BUT I DO BELIEVE MINE SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. *TR
I STARTED VEHICLE, DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, I THEN PLACED THE SHIFTER INTO REVERSE AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE WHEN I REALIZED THE VEHICLE WASN'T STOPPING AS USUAL. I THEN PUT THE SHIFTER INTO DRIVE AND PARKED IT . I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED ALOT OF FLUID (ON THE DRIVERS SIDE) ALL OVER THE GROUND. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO HAVE IT MOVED TO A MECHANICS LOCATION FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE MAIN (CORRODED) BRAKE LINE BURST CAUSING FLUID TO LEAK EVERYWHERE AND CREATING A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS LIFE THREATENING DRIVING HAZARD ( BRAKE FAILURE) HAD I NOT PARKED THE VEHICLE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT ENDING....THIS NEEDS TO INVESTIGATED IMMEDIATELY. *TR
BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON COMING DOWN TO FLORIDA. CHECK FLUID AND IT WAS WAY DOWN. TOOK TO MECH. AND DISCOVERED SOME OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED. ONE WORST THAN THE OTHER. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER. THE NHTSA SHOULD GO AFTER THE MANUFACTURE FOR THIS FEDERALLY REGULATED DEFECT. *TR
UNLIKE MANY OTHERS MY CHEVROLET MECHANIC WARNED ME OF THE CORROSION PROBLEMS THEY FOUND ON MY BRAKE LINES ON MY GMC 2002 YUKON, AND THE NEED TO REPLACE THEM. THIS $1,700 REPAIR IS EXCESSIVE, BUT I COULD NOT CONSIDER RISKING FAILURE. WE TRAVEL ON HIGHWAYS CLOSE TO 1,000 MILES PER MONTH AND OCCASIONALLY TOW A 5,000 POUND BOAT/TRAILER. I TYPICALLY BUY NEW CARS, MAINTAIN THEM WITH THE DEALER AND RUN THEM AS LONG AS I CAN. I HAVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF SUCH A COMPREHENSIVE FAILURE. HAVING ONLY BRIEFLY RESEARCHED THIS ON LINE AND EASILY FINDING HUNDREDS OF REPORTED FAILURES, I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT GMC HAS NOT BEEN HELD ACCOUNTABLE. A FRIEND HAS REPORTED TO US THAT BOTH THEIR SIERRA AND YUKON EXPERIENCED ON ROAD FAILURES. I MAINTAIN MY CARS AS RESPONSIBLY AS I CAN, AT A COST, BUT NOT WANTING ANY HIGHWAY FAILURES.
