TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON DENALI. THE CONTACT STATED THE SPARE TIRE SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE SPARE TIRE CABLE FAILED TO SECURE THE DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD STUDS ARE CAUSING ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD AND MAY LEAD TO FAILED CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND OTHER ENGINE PROBLEMS. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED, AS IT RENDERS THE VEHICLE EITHER UNUSABLE OR UNABLE TO PASS ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING. *TR
VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE, AFTER PULLING OVER THE DISABLED VEHICLE A QUICK INSPECTION REVEALED ROTTED BRAKE LINES RUNNING TO THE ABS CONTROL UNIT WHICH HAD FAILED UNDER BRAKE PRESSURE CAUSING IMMEDIATE LOSS OF BRAKING WITH NO WARNING OR ANY MIL LIGHT STATUS PRIOR TO FAILURE. ALL THE FRONT BRAKE LINES WERE HEAVILY CORRODED AND ALL NEEDED REPLACING BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS USABLE. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON DENALI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE BRAKING, THE ABS SYSTEM WOULD ENGAGE AND CAUSE THE BRAKES TO LOCK UP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS OCCURS AT LOW SPEEDS AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH. THE CONTACT HAS NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER OR LOCAL MECHANIC. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 167,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON XL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AS THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND WAS IN THE INTERSECTION BEFORE IT FINALLY STOPPED. THE BRAKING ISSUES PERSISTED AS THE VEHICLE WAS CONTINUOUSLY DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156,000.
VEHICLE RAN OUT OF GAS, FUEL GAUGE READ 1/4 TANK
GMC 2002 YUKON SLE, 193,000 MILES, EXPERIENCED A TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE, LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID, WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING LIGHTS REGARDING BRAKE LINE PRESSURE, FUNCTION OR ABS. THE LOSS WAS ATTRIBUTED TO EXTENSIVELY CORRODED BRAKE LINES RESULTING IN A $3000 REPAIR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON XL. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING AND A BATTERY INDICATION LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WHEN IT WAS RESTARTED, THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 116,000.
THE BRAKES RECENTLY FAILED ON OUR 2002 GMC YUKON XL 1500 4WD SUV. WHILE DESCENDING A MODERATELY STEEP HILL ON OUR STREET, MY WIFE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW THE VEHICLE, AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL OF THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THANKFULLY, SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE UP THE NEXT HILL AND BRING IT TO A STOP. INSPECTION REVEALED BRAKE FLUID HAD LEAKED FROM A HIGHLY CORRODED BRAKE LINE ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, BELOW THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THREE OTHER ADJACENT BRAKE LINES WERE ALSO SIMILARLY CORRODED. UPON CONTACTING THE NEAREST GM DEALER (TOM GILL CHEVROLET, FLORENCE, KY), THE SERVICE AGENT INFORMED ME "THAT'S NOT UNCOMMON IN A 9-YEAR OLD VEHICLE." FOUR ALMOST COMPLETELY RUSTED BRAKE LINES, IN JUST 8 YEARS? THAT RIDICULOUS! I HAVE A 16-YEAR-OLD TOYOTA IN THE DRIVEWAY THAT DOESN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM, AND I SHOULDN'T EXPECT TO HAVE IT WITH MY MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE AND FAR NEWER AMERICAN MADE SUV. TOM GILL SERVICE REFUSED TO GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF REPAIR, STATING I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE IT TOWED THE 17 MILES TO THE DEALERSHIP, WITH A "WE'RE COMPETITIVE--WE'LL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE PRICE." COMFORTING. A FEW MORE CALLS TO LOCAL SHOPS REVEALED AN ESTIMATE OF BETWEEN $850-1,100 FOR REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF ALL FOUR LINES. I ENDED-UP SPENDING 22 HOURS PULLING-OUT THE OLD LINES AND BENDING/FLARING/INSTALLING ENTIRELY NEW FRONT LINES MYSELF. LAST WEEK I LEARNED I'M NOT ALONE--A WCPO NEWS REPORT REVEALED THIS IS PROBLEMATIC WITH GM TRUCKS/SUVS, WITH GM DEFLECTING BLAME TO "SALT BRINE." AFTER ALL OF THESE YEARS, AMERICAN MANUFACTURERS ARE STILL TAKING SHORTCUTS AND CANNING ETHICS...TOYOTA WILL CONTINUE TO WIN MARKET SHARE AS LONG AS THIS CRAP CONTINUES. I'M ANGRY BECAUSE IT'S PUTTING OUR FAMILIES AT RISK. NO ONE GOT HURT THIS TIME, AT LEAST NOT IN MY FAMILY, BUT THE POTENTIAL IS CERTAINLY THERE. I THINK GM SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE, AND I AM HOLDING ONTO THE CORRODED BRAKE LINES AS EVIDENCE IN THE EVENT OF A FUTURE RECALL. I'D ALSO LIKE THOSE 22 HOURS BACK. *TR
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
DRIVING FROM TAMPA TO ORLANDO IN MY 2002 GMC YUKON WITH TRAILER IN TOW. BRAKES WENT TO FLOOR WHILE HAD TO USE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I WAS TOW HOME BY AAA NO FLUID IN RESERVOIR FILLED IT UP. SAW FLUID LEAKING UNDER DRIVERS DOOR LOOK WITH FLASHLIGHT AND SAW CLUSTER OF LINES CORRODED LEAKING FROM A ROUND DEVICE AND RUNNING DOWN THE RAIL TOWARD BACK. ABOUT TWO FT. LONG. I THINK THEY ARE THE METAL BRAKE LINES AND THEIR FAILURE SEEMS LIKE A DEFECT IN MATERIAL AS I THINK THEY SHOULD BE MADE OF A HARDER OR MORE LASTING STAINLESS STEEL OR SOMETHING AS BRAKES ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT DEVICE ON A VEHICLE. I NOW FEEL FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY GMC SAID IMPROPER MAINTENANCE. I THINK GMC SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THEIR FAULTY DEFECTIVE BRAKE LINES BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED OR MAYBE THEY HAVE ALREADY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A MONTH AGO THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY TURNED OFF WITHOUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE AIR CONDITIONER CAME ON FULL BLAST. THE FAILURE HAPPENED AGAIN, BUT INSTEAD OF THE AIR CONDITIONER IT WAS THE HEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY CORRODED WIRES UNDERNEATH THE DASHBOARD. THE CONTACT HAD THE WIRES REPLACED AFTER THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED WITH THE HEAT VOLUNTARILY COMING ON. THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 183000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 184000.
I PURCHASED A 2002 GMC YUKON XL 2 DAYS AGO, SOLD "AS IS" WITH NO WARRANTY. AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SPEEDOMETER ARE THE LIGHTS THAT INDICATE THE POSITION OF THE SHIFTER (PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL, OVERDRIVE, AND GEARS 3,2 AND 1) AND ALSO THE ODOMETER READING. THESE INDICATOR LIGHTS WORKED FINE DURING THE TEST DRIVE BUT BECAME INTERMITTENT ON THE DRIVE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE SINCE THEN. YOU LOSE ALL INDICATION OF WHAT GEAR YOU ARE IN AND OF THE ODOMETER READING. THIS PROBLEM COULD LEAD TO A DRIVER SHIFTING GEARS IMPROPERLY AND UNSAFELY, SUCH AS SHIFTING INTO A FORWARD GEAR IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE REVERSE GEAR IS INTENDED OR SHIFTING INTO REVERSE WHILE DRIVING AND SEEKING OVERDRIVE AFTER BEING IN A LOWER GEAR. I HAVE NOW BEEN TOLD BY A FEW DEALERS THAT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILURES ARE SOMEWHAT COMMON IN YUKON XLS AND ARE COSTING AN AVERAGE OF ABOUT $700 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WHEN ONLY A SINGLE GAUGE IS HAVING AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. SINCE THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE COMMON AND CAN EFFECT SAFETY, AS IN THE EXAMPLES I GAVE ABOVE, PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM AND SEE IF A RECALL/MANUFACTURER FIX IS WARRANTED. I JUST INVESTIGATED DRIVER COMPLAINTS AROUND THE INTERNET AND FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT YUKON XL SPEEDOMETER FAILURE/INTERMITTENT, FOR INSTANCE. IF A DRIVER DOESN'T KNOW WHAT SPEED HE IS TRAVELING AT HE IS A LESS SAFE DRIVER AND A POTENTIAL HAZARD TO OTHERS. EXCESSIVELY SLOW DRIVERS AND EXCESSIVELY FAST DRIVERS CAN BOTH CAUSE SERIOUS PROBLEMS IN TRAFFIC, AND IN RURAL AREAS THERE MAY BE FEWER, IF ANY, DRIVERS ALONGSIDE TO HELP GAUGE THE NORMAL SPEED THAT IS APPROPRIATE. ALSO A VEHICLE COULD UNEXPECTEDLY FAIL OR STALL IN TRAFFIC, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT, IF A DRIVER IS UNAWARE OF AN EXTREMELY LOW BATTERY OR LOW FUEL, ETC. INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS ARE VERY IMPORTANT FOR SAFETY IN MANY WAYS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE PROBLEMS WITH INTERMITTENT AND FAILURES IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS USED IN 2002 GMC YUKON XLS. (MINE IS A 1500). *TR

I RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE AFTER DRIVING TO THE GROCERY STORE TODAY. YESTERDAY, I REALIZED THAT TO STOP, I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG BECAUSE MY BRAKES HAD BEEN WORKING JUST FINE. TODAY I NOTICED THE SAME PROBLEM AND REPORTED IT TO MY BOYFRIEND, WHO CONDUCTED A VISUAL INSPECTION AT THE BRAKE LINES AND UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT, BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING OUT RAPIDLY AND WAS PUDDLING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. HAD I NOT STOPPED, I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. AS A RESULT, I CAN NOT DRIVE MY VEHICLE BECAUSE THE BRAKES ARE NO LONGER WORKING. I HAVE A 2002 GMC YUKON DENALI XL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THERE WAS A BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DROVE HOME AND NOTICED THAT THE SHOCK MOUNTS THAT WERE ATTACHED TO THE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
I HAVE A 2002 GMC YUKON XL. THIS VEHICLE THAT I RECENTLY PURCHASED HAS STALLED ON TWO OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING. BOTH TIMES I WAS IN TRAFFIC AND HAD DIFFICULTY SAFELY GETTING OFF THE ROADWAY, AS I HAD NO POWER. I HAVE DONE A FAIR AMOUNT OF RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT I AM 1 OF MANY WITH THIS COMPLAINT. *TR
2002 GMC YUKON XL REAR TAILGATE GLASS FAILED/BROKEN HINGE DUE TO POOR DESIGN. THIS RESULTS IN THE REAR GLASS HELD ON BY ONE HINGE INSTEAD OF TWO. REAR GLASS DOES NOT CLOSE PROPERLY AND IS AT RISK TO DETACH FROM VEHICLE. MANY OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE (AND SISTER VEHICLES TAHOE AND SUBURBAN) HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS DEFECT. GM FAILS TO ACKNOWLEDGE OR ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY. *TR
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT DASHBOARD INDICATOR LIGHT ACTIVATES AFTER ANY RAIN OR UNDERSIDE OF CAR BECOMING WET DUE TO ROAD MOISTURE. WATER, SALT, AND OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL CONTAMINANTS CAUSE VARIOUS COMPONENTS OF THE ABS TO FAIL TRIGGERING THE ABS AND/OR BRAKE FAILURE LIGHT ON DASHBOARD TO TURN ON. VARIOUS GM DEALER RECOMMEND REPLACEMENT OF THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE AND BRAKE PRESSURE VALVE IN ADDITION TO ASSOCIATED CONNECTION HARDWARE. ESTIMATED COST OF PARTS IS IN EXCESS OF $2K AND LABOR IS $500. NO ASSURANCES ARE GIVEN THIS WILL FIX PROBLEM. PREVIOUS RECALLS BY GM, VEHICLE OWNER COMPLAINTS, INTERNET WEBSITES, AND INTERNET FORUMS ADDRESS ONGOING ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT SYSTEM PROBLEMS DUE TO EXPOSURE TO WATER, MOISTURE, AND OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS; INDICATES THE LIFE CYCLE OF GM ABS AND BRAKE SYSTEMS ARE SEVERELY REDUCED IN COMPARISON TO ALL OTHER MAKES AND MODEL CARS/TRUCKS WITH ABS SYSTEMS. THE NUMBER ONE NHTSA COMPLAINT ISSUE REMAINS THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM ON GMC YUKONS PRODUCED FROM 2000 TO 2006. THERE HAVE BEEN VARIOUS NHTSA/GMC RECALL NOTICES THAT ADDRESS PARTIAL FIXES TO THE ABS BUT NONE REQUIRING THE RECALL OF THE COMPLETE ABS SYSTEM ITSELF. FAILURE OF THE ABS WILL RESULT IN BRAKE LOCKUP AT ANY SPEED. THE FAILURE OF THE ABS SYSTEM TO FUNCTION PROPERLY BECAUSE GM DID NOT DESIGN THE SYSTEM FOR IT'S OPERATING ENVIRONMENT HAS CREATED A DANGEROUS EXPENSIVE PROBLEM FOR GMC YUKON OWNER/OPERATORS. *TR
I OWN A 2002 CHEVY TAHOE, AND I'M IN CHARGE OF SERVICING THREE, 2002 AND 2003 GMC YUKONS FOR MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT. THE MIDDLE ROW SEATS IN ALL OF THESE HAVE SEATBELT ISSUES. THESE ARE EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE TO FIX OR REPLACE AND ALL FOUR VEHICLES THAT I DEAL WITH HAVE AT LEAST ONE OF THE SHOULDER BELTS IN THAT MIDDLE ROW SEAT THAT EITHER WONT COME OUT OR WON'T RETRACT. *TR

MY HUSBAND WAS A MECHANIC AT GM DEALERS FOR OVER 12 YEARS & NEVER SEEN 1 STATIC BRAKE LINE RUPTURE NEVERMIND 4 BECOME DEFECTIVE AT THE SAME TIME ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THE VEHICLE BARELY HAS 60,000 MILES ON IT & HAS ALWAYS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. DEALER WAS VERY UNCOOPERATIVE IN SEEKING GM REMEDIATION ASSISTANCE FOR US OR TAKING ANY SELF-INITIATIVE ANYTIME TO KEEP US INFORMED, VEHICLE OUT OF SERVICE & HAS BEEN AT DEALER FOR GOING ON 3 DAYS NOW, AFTER NOT FOLLOWING UP WITH US NOR RETURNING OUR CALLS JUST REACHED DEALER RIGHT BEFORE CLOSING TIME & WAS INFORMED THEY STILL CANNOT LOCATE PARTS AT FACTORY OR ANYWHERE ELSE, FACT THAT 4 LINES DEFECTIVE SIMULTANEOUSLY & STILL UNABLE TO LOCATE PARTS CLEARLY INDICATES MANUFACTURING DEFECT... NO CAR, NO SERVICE, NO PRICE, NO PARTS, WHEN WILL IT EVER END? RECOMMEND URGENT PRIORITY -IF NOT REMEDIED QUICKLY- MANY LIVES COULD BE LOST! *TR
THE BRAKES ON MY 2002 GMC YUKON XL SEEM TO FAIL AT LOW SPEED. YOU PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT GOES TO THE FLOOR AND DOES NOT STOP. WE HAVE HAD THE SPEED SENOR REPLACED, RECALLED PART REPLACED IN 2005. THE DESCRIPTION SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH MY TRUCK. WE PURCHASED THE 2002 YUKON FROM MCGUIRE DEALERSHIP IN NJ ITS BEEN CARED FOR TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FAITHFULLY DRIVEN BY MY 50 YEAR OLD FATHER, WHEN FIRST DRIVING HE NOTICED THE PEDAL VIBRATING RAPIDLY DURING NORMAL BRAKE APPLICATIONS. THE ABS CONTROL VALVE WAS THE CULPRIT ALONG WITH A RUSTY WHEEL SENSOR. IT WAS REPLACED AT THE DEALER AND AFTER 5 YEARS THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK IS RUSTING AND ROTTING ALONG WITH SUSPENSION PARTS AND MOST OF ALL THE BRAKES. WE CAME CLOSE TO CRASHING ONE DAY WHEN THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR, WE TAKE IT TO THE LOCAL FIRESTONE AND THEY TELL US ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED OUT ALONG WITH THE MASTER CYLINDER. WE REPLACED THE LINES AND MASTER CYLINDER WITH A HEFTY PRICE TAG. WE GET THE CAR BACK 3 DAYS LATER PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AGAIN, BACK AT THE MECHANIC BOTH REAR CALIPERS ARE RUSTED AND LEAKING. WE REPLACED ALL 4 CALIPERS AND THE PROBLEM STOPPED BUT NOW THE FRAME IS RUSTING AND THE ABS IS STILL VIBRATING BADLY. LONG STORY SHORT GM NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR SELLING SUCH CHEAP CRAPPY TRUCKS, WE CAME CLOSE A FEW TIMES TO CRASHING, AND I FEEL SORRY FOR THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES DUE TO THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE EMPLOYEES OF GM. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON WHICH HAS FOUR B.F. GOODRICH LT 235/75/R16 TIRES. THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED IN 2008. HE STATED THAT THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT CRACK IN THE SIDEWALL OF ALL FOUR TIRES THAT FORMED AROUND THE TREAD OF THE TIRE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE TIRES PERTAINING TO THE SPECIFIC TYPE OF FAILURE. THE VIN WAS REJECTED FROM THE SYSTEM. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE TIRE MILEAGES WERE UNDER 25,000. THE CURRENT VEHICLE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
MY 2002 GMC YUKON HAS THE PROBLEM THAT WHEN STOPPING AT SLOW SPEEDS THE ABS BRAKES ACTIVATE CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST TIME WAS JUST BEFORE THE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM IN 2005, THE SECOND TIME WAS IN THE SUMMER OF 2007 WHEN IT WAS FIXED UNDER THE RECALL, AND JUST RECENTLY WHEN I HAD TO AGAIN PAY FOR THE REPAIR. EACH TIME IT WAS REPAIRED BY REMOVING AND CLEANING OR REPLACING THE SENSORS. OBVIOUSLY THE REPAIR DONE AS A RESULT OF THE RECALL IS TEMPORARY AT BEST AND THE SAFETY ISSUE OF THE CAR LURCHING FORWARD RETURNS. IN MY CASE IT APPEARS TO RETURN IN ABOUT 2 YEARS. *TR

THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL NEARLY FELL OFF OUR 2002 YUKON 1500 SLT. WE HAD JUST STOPPED TO PAY A TOLL ON THE MAINE TURNPIKE. AS WE DROVE OUT OF THE TOLL BOOTH, MY HUSBAND HAD DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE. A TERRIBLE GRINDING NOISE CAME FROM THE LEFT FRONT END OF OUR CAR. THE ABS LIGHT FLASHED ON. GRIPPING THE WOBBLY STEERING WHEEL, MY HUSBAND GUIDED THE VEHICLE ACROSS SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC INTO THE NARROW BREAKDOWN LANE. THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY OFF THE VEHICLE. CARS AND TRUCKS WHIZZED BY DANGEROUSLY CLOSE AS MY HUSBAND TRIED TO REPOSITION THE WHEEL AND TIGHTEN THE BOLTS THAT HAD LOOSENED. TWO HUNDRED MILES FROM HOME, AND A FEW MILES FROM OUR DESTINATION, WE HOBBLED ON. MY HUSBAND STOPPED REPEATEDLY TO RETIGHTEN THE BOLTS. WE GOT OFF THE TURNPIKE AND INCHED ALONG SLOWLY ON BACK ROADS. STILL, THIS FINAL LEG OF OUR JOURNEY WAS TREACHEROUS. STEERING WAS ALL BUT IMPOSSIBLE. WE NEARLY WENT OFF THE ROAD. WHEN FINALLY SAFELY STOPPED, THE TIRE AND METAL WHEEL PARTS WERE SO HOT, THEY HAD TO BE HOSED DOWN. SMOKE CAME FROM THE WHEEL. THE METAL WAS SCORCHED. THE CALIPER HOLDING THE WHEEL WAS SEVERELY BENT, THE BRAKES DESTROYED, AND THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL SCORED AND CHARRED. PARTS HAD DISINTEGRATED. THE BEARINGS WERE GONE. IT IS INCREDIBLE WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE EVEN 10 MILES. IF I HAD BEEN BEHIND THE WHEEL, INSTEAD OF MY HUSBAND, I WOULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR. IF THE PROBLEM HAD MANIFESTED ITSELF AS WE HURTLED DOWN THE HIGHWAY INSTEAD OF EXITING A TOLL BOOTH, THE WHEEL SURELY WOULD HAVE FLOWN OFF THE CAR INTO TRAFFIC. I SHUDDER TO THINK OF THE CONSEQUENCES. OUR TWO YOUNG SONS WERE IN THE BACK SEAT. WE WERE VERY LUCKY, BUT ARE NOW MINUS A VEHICLE WE NEED. IT SITS WHERE WE LEFT IT, 200 MILES AWAY. WE NEED TO BRING IT HOME, BUT THE TOW CHARGE WILL BE PROHIBITIVELY EXPENSIVE, NOT TO MENTION THE REPAIRS. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. WAS DRIVING APPROX 60MPH ON NEWLY PAVED 4 LANE HIGHWAY (US 31). VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE A NOISE AND THEN SHAKE. FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED WITH APPROX 80% OF THE TREAD AND BELT SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE AND NUMEROUS HOLES IN THE TIRE. MANY SHARP STEEL PRONG ENDS WERE STICKING OUT OF THE TIRE AND THE SEPARATED TREAD/BELT. DESTROYED THE WHEEL WELL COVERING. 2002 YUKON XL. TIRES HAD BEEN INSTALLED IN MARCH 2008. WHEN LOOKING AT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE, IT HAD NUMEROUS LARGE CRACKS FROM THE TREAD EXTENDING INTO THE SIDEWALL. TO AVOID HAVING ANOTHER BLOWOUT/SEPARATION, QUICKLY REPLACED THAT TIRE AND RETURNED BOTH TO THE DEALER WHERE PURCHASED. HAVING THE DEALER CONTACT COOPER AND INSPECT THE REAR 2 TIRES AS WELL (VISUAL INSPECTION DID NOT SHOW THE TREAD/SIDEWALL CRACKS). *TR

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE BACK LIFT GLASS BLEW OFF THE TAILGATE AND HIT A MOTORCYCLIST HE WAS NOT INJURED BUT THERE WAS SOME DAMAGE TO HIS BIKE.
