Travelling on an FM road, going 55 when Yukon began accelerating on its own, even when I took foot off the accelerator. tapped brakes, thinking cruise control had engaged. Vehicle swerved violently. Speed kept increasing. Saw I was traveling 75mph! Braked hard! Felt as if acceleration was fighting against the brakes. Then spun out in the middle of the highway, spinning around 1 1/2 times while fully braking. Finally I slowed enough to throw it into park, regardless of what it might do to my transmission, I had to stop the vehicle. I came to rest straddling the lane I had been in and the oncoming lane, facing the direction from which I came. Traffic behind me had seen my struggles in time to stop back far enough that they weren’t endangered and there was no oncoming traffic at that moment. The fuel propulsion system (throttle?) seems to be at fault. There was no warning on the dash about any issue prior to this. The issue was real, a danger to myself and others. A mechanic examined the vehicle and discovered accumulation of debris on top of connector under the hood. He believed just enough water caused the conductivity needed to trigger the acceleration. State that these vehicles allow more intrusion from wheel well area than most. He thoroughly cleaned all connectors and no further issues have happened (yet!) ON 10/08/2020 I WAS DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT 5 PM WHEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND THE DASH STARTED FLASHING FIRST IT WAS TURNING OFF THE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM AND THE NEXT MESSAGE WAS GOING INTO REDUCED ENGINE POWER MODE. AT THAT POINT, THE VEHICLE DROPPED TO ABOUT 30 MPH WITH FULL THROTTLE AND I HAD TO MANEUVER THRU TRAFFIC TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY. NOT EASY TO DO WITH A CAR THAT WILL ONLY DO 30 MPH OR SO. WITH CAUTION LIGHTS BLINKING AND WAVING AT CARS I NEARLY GOT REAR-ENDED TWICE BEFORE I COULD GET OFF THE FREEWAY.
I HAD JUST LEFT THE FREE WAY WENT ONTO A 2 LAIN ROAD WE WERE DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPR THEN WE LOST ENGINE POWER,ALL THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON ,WE PULLED OVER THE CAR KILLED,DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ,SO WE WAITED A BOUT 8 MINUTES THEN TURNED THE KEY, THE CAR STARTED AND WE WENT ON OUR WAY,A FEW MINUTES LATER IT DID THE SAME THING, IT DID IT 2 MORE TIMES, TOOK IT TO THE SHOP WAS TOLD IT WAS A GAS TANK SENSOR ,$500.00 STOAT AT THE SHOP,AND THE CAR STILL HAS THE PROBLEM,WHAT HAPPENS IF THE ENGINE REDUCES POWER WHILE DO 65 MPR DOWN THE FREE WAY, ? TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP FOR SERVICE MAINTENANCE. THE FAILURE WAS FOUND IN THE FUEL TANK, WHERE THERE WAS A LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY REPLACING THE FUEL TANK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE HOWEVER NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000. UPDATED 08/07/12*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE SEAL THAT HELD THE GAS TANK IN PLACE, CAME APART AND CAUSED FUEL TO LEAK. UPDATED 08/16/12
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH COMING FROM A SUPERVISION TRAINING CLASS ALONG WITH A CO-WORKER AND THE FOLLOWING SENSOR LIGHTS STARTED APPEARING ON MY DASHBOARD: TRACTION CONTROL OFF, STABILITRAK OFF. THIS HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN ON A REGULAR BASIS. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE GM SERVICE AT LEAST TWICE AND PRIVATE REPAIR FACILITIES NUMEROUS TIMES AND THE SITUATION CONTINUES. IT IS NOW 01-28-2014 AND THE SITUATION CONTINUES AND IS GETTING WORSE. ALONE WITH THE ABOVE ISSUES NOW THE "REDUCE ENGINE POWER" LIGHT COMES ON AND THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN. IT HAS BECOME VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AND NO REPAIR FACILITY, GM OR OTHERWISE, KNOWS HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I OWN A 2007 GM YUKON XL. IN OR ABOUT MAY-JUNE OF 2009 THE CAR BEGAN RUNNING BADLY AND SMELLED OF GAS. I RETURNED IT TO THE DEALER (SUN PONTIAC GMC OF WANTAGH, NY) AND THEY SAID THEY CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND TIME AGAIN WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARING AND ONSTAR CALLS TO SEE IF I WAS OKAY. MANY REPORTS FROM ONSTAR ALSO CONFIRM THIS. AFTER MANY TRIPS TO SUN PONTIAC THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAD REFUSED TO ISSUE ME A REPAIR ORDER BECAUSE YUKONS WERE HAVING EXPLOSIVE CONDITIONS, ESPECIALLY MINE. I CALLED GM AND THEY SAID THEY NEVER HAD ANY SUCH PROBLEM AND REFERRED ME TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WHERE THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. I WAS ORDERED NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND HAVE IT TOWED FROM MY HOME BECAUSE OF THE SAME EXPLOSIVE CONDITION. SINCE JUNE 2009 I HAVE HAD OVER 300 PHONE CONVERSATIONS WITH GM. I PERSONALLY WITNESSED THE ENTIRE REAR END UNDERCARRIAGE OF MY VEHICLE IN PIECES. I HAVE READ AND BEEN TOLD THAT IT WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT EVEN AFTER THEY REPLACED HARNESSES, GAS TANKS, TUBES, GAS LINES ETC. IT COULD NOT BE FIXED. THE LAST WORDS OUT OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT SUN WAS THAT " I WOULDN'T DRIVE THAT CAR IF I WERE YOU BECAUSE IT MIGHT BLOW UP". I KNEW THAT GM WOULD NEVER ADMIT TO ANY OF THIS SO I TAPED MOST OF MY CONVERSATIONS WITH ALL OF THEIR HEAD OFFICIALS AND STORED NUMEROUS COPIES WITH TWO SEPARATE ATTORNEY'S, MY FAMILY AND ONE COUSIN WHO WORKS FOR THE MEDIA IN CASE ANYTHING WERE TO HAPPEN. IT WAS ADMITTED TO ME A GM THAT THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME AND IT WOULDN'T BE THE LAST. I HAVE TAKEN MY YUKON OFF THE ROAD AND PARKED IT AWAY FROM ANYTHING FLAMMABLE WITH VERY LITTLE GAS IN THE TANK (WELL, THAT WAS HOW GM LEFT IT. I HAVE PROOF THAT GENERAL MOTORS IS FULLY AWARE THAT YUKONS MIGHT START BLOWING UP YET I HAVEN'T SEEN A RECALL AND I HAVE A $46,000.00 PILE OF RUBBISH IN MY DRIVEWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL CAP WOULD NOT SEAL PROPERLY, CAUSING THE SERVICE INDICATOR WARNING LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. THE DEALER MADE THREE ATTEMPTS TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING FURTHER REPAIRS. THE VIN WAS AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
MY NAME IS [XXX] , I RESIDE IN TUCSON AZ, I OWN AD MY WIFE AND I DRIVE A 2007 G M C YUKON SLT, MY CONCERN IS OUR YUKON SEEMS TO LUNGE AT TIMES, WHAT I MEAN IS, WHEN WE STOP OUR S U V AT STOPLIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, OR PULLING INTO OUR GARAGE THE RPM RAISES TO WHAT I FEEL IS AN UNSAFE LEVEL .WHICH REQUIRES US TO APPLY THE BRAKES IN A MANNER FOR WHICH I AND MY WIFE FEEL IS EXCESSIVE PRESSURE BEING APPLIED TO THE BRAKES. WE HAVE EXPRESSED OUR CONCERNS TO OUR LOCAL G M C DEALERSHIP MORE THAN FIVE TIMES IN A ONE YEAR TIME FRAME. THEIR RESPONSE IS WE AND OUR TECHS, CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE WE HAVE EXPRESSED! WE BOTH FEEL THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE RESPONSE.
