Since I've owned the hybrid yukon, I've had nothing but issues. GMC only made a limited amount of the hybrid models but due to the issues discontinued manufacturing them. why weren't the vehicles taken off the market? started with the jolting from a stop, to not wanting to go into reverse, check engine light, to hybrid battery not shifting into gear, last power steering locked while driving then not starting at all. had sat at the dealership for 4 weeks now sitting at another hybrid shop awaiting for the inverter converter control to be delivered and put in. have spent thousands in the last 2 months repairing trying to figure out issues.
COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST, AFTER CROSSING OVER A SET OF RAILROAD TRACKS. SERVICE POWER STEERING MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON DASH. AFTER TURNING VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON, THE POWER STEERING WORKED FINE. HAPPENED A 2ND TIME AFTER HITTING A POT HOLE. VEHICLE IS IN MOTION ON BUSY STREET, AND COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING ASSIST MAKES THIS VERY UNSAFE
WHILE CAR WAS IN MOTION THE CAR BECAME LIMP/SLOW AS THE ENGINE WOULD SLOW DOWN. WE HAVE HAD 2 INSTANCES WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WILL REDUCE SPEED TO A HAUNT. THE CAR BOTH TIMES WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN AND NEEDED TO BE TOWED. FIRST ONE THE MODULES MELTED DUE TO THE HYBRID BATTERY AND OTHER WAS A FAILED THROTTLE. WE ARE NOW DEALING WITH MELTED SPARK PLUGS WHICH WERE ALL COMPLETELY REPLACED AND FAILED AGAIN ONE MONTH LATER AND WHILE THE CAR WAS DRIVING IT CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP WHILE THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AGAIN!
DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ENTERING A TURN, THE POWER STEERING FAILED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO GO OFF ROAD, AND DAMAGE THE LOWER FRONT PORTION OF THE BUMPER (MINOR). MY WIFE IS UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, EVEN WE WE HAVE IT REPAIRED. THERE WAS NO WARNING, UNTIL AFTER THE FAILURE, WHEN THE ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM, STATED "SERVICE POWER STEERING".
LOSE STEERING
THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON, AND STEERING SOUND. *JS
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY BETWEEN 65-70 MILES AN HOUR MY VEHICLES CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND LA MESSAGE OF ENGINE POWER REDUCED APPEARED. THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER BUT I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY. THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN ON AND I HAD TO CAL AAA TO TAKE MY CARE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE VALVE BODY INTERNALLY SHORTED THE MEMORY CIRCUIT AND THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR SHORTED. THE DEALER SAID THAT THEY FOUND THE HARNESS FOR THE CRANKSHAFT HAD MELTED AND SHORTED OUT THE SENSORS. THEY REPAIRED THE HARNESS, REPLACED THE SHORTED OUT SENSOR AND REPLACED THE VALVEBODY/TCM. DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE VALVE BODY TO SHORT AND CAUSE THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR TO MELT. *TR
11/25/2012 - HYBRID SHUT DOWN WITH NO WARNING AT 65MPH ON I-80 GOING WEST NEAR OHIO BORDER - THUS LOST POWER STEERING AND PROPULSION. I GOT TO SHOULDER SAFELY; TOWED TO GMC DEALER - RESULT HYBRID FAULT CODE BUT NO CAUSE DETERMINED. CONNECTOR GREASED WITH DIELECTRIC GREASE, AND FAULT COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. 12/24/2012 - HYBRID FAILURE AFTER PARKED FOR 2 HOURS. TOWED TO GMC DEALER; CASCADE OF HYBRID FAULT CODES, AND TRANSMISSION HARNESS CABLE REPLACED. NO EXPLANATION GIVEN AS TO WHY HARNESS CABLE FAILED. NO COMPONENT OF HYBRID SYSTEM EVER REPLACED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 GMC YUKON XL. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH ATTEMPTING A LEFT TURN WHEN THE STEERING COLUMN COMPLETELY LOCKED AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND THE KEYS WERE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AS IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 20,000.
