I was driving into a parking spot and the car started flickering, the screen turned off and the steering locked and would not allow me to move the car at all even though it was in drive.
Component VSA ANTI LOCK ABS PUMP MODULATOR 57110-T2F-A1 malfunction. Circuit board wiring inside of modulator has loose/dismantled wires causing complete failure of ABS system for vehicle. This is a widely know problem amongst 9th generation Honda Accords and Honda has yet to issue a recall here in the United States.
The car has just over 91,000 miles on it and the push button start is working only intermittently. I know I’m not the only one because the online forums are full of started problems with these. It’s my only car and Honda has known for years it is a problem with these.
Apparentlhy, many VSA Modulator Contol Unit on the ABS on the Honda accords from 2013-2017 have failures right now. My car has the same issue. Took it to the dealership and the guy working there even said this should be a recall. A lot of the honda accords have been having this same issue. All the warning lights on the dash light up and its because of the bad ABS module going bad. I really think honda should take responsibility on this. It is costing me approximately $3000 to fix at the dealership since they have to make connections and bleed all brakes during swap. A number of YouTube videos point to the hair thin connector to card connections as the failure point.
2013 Honda Accord experiencing a VSA modulator failure. The VSA modulator controls the Anti-lock Braking System, which is now not working on my vehicle. The local Honda Dealers have told me this is a common failure (I checked with two different Dealers). The repair cost for parts and labor is approximately $2500, with no guarantee it will not fail again. From research I found that the VSA failures are covered in later year Hondas, but not my year. I also found that other countries have forced Honda to cover these failures. I have filed a case with Honda, but the case was closed with Honda saying they would not do anything to reduce the cost of the replacement VSA modulator, which is being quoted as $2344 (for the part alone). A common safety part, such as the VSA modulator, should be replaced at little or no cost to the Customer.
Power steering cuts in and out. Steering becomes stiff and power to turn is not one smooth motion
When starting the engine and while driving at speeds of 60+MPH, Malfunction lamp, FCW, VSA, LDW, Low tire pressure (TPMS), ECON mode, and EPS warning lights come on and vehicles slows to 10 MPH. Vehicle will remain in this condition until restarted which may or may not resolve the issue. Car will drive but not at speed desired and vehicles appears/sounds as if it is trying to change gears but cannot. The car continues to try to slow down to lower speeds.
The steering wheel of Honda Accord ex 2013 suddenly malfunctioned. It becomes heavy and stiff. It can not come back to the center automatically after left turn. We brought the car to our local Honda dealer. They diagnosed the car and told us the car "NEEDS EPS GEAR BOX ONLY ". They said "NOT RELATED TO THE WARRANTY EXTENSION $3905 PLUS TAX AND SHOP SUPPLIES". There is not warning when the engine of the car is turned on. My car had less than 68K miles when this happened on 07/13/2024.
When my 2013 Accord was around 80,000 miles my dashboard lit up with "Forward Collison Warning System Failure." The following lights are also on, LDW, Power Steering, TPMS, Traction Control. I took my car to a mechanic and was told I needed a new VSA/ ABS Brake Control Module. I was told this is a common problem for Hondas and is dangerous as it disables traction control and could affect braking as well. The mechanic and a honda dealer quoted me $3,200 for this repair.
Honda Accord 2013 All Lights On ABS, Traction Control, Steering Wheel and TPMS lights
The VSA Modulator on the 2013 Ex-L manual transmission has failed. It illuminated 7 lights. Steering light, abs, FCW, BRAKE, ABS, LDW, Traction Control. The abs modulator internally shuts off all systems within this car. The car is not able to pass inspection because of safety issues. After looking for a used part, i realized there were many complaints on this particular make and model. I am scared to drive the car with these issues, and with 1000s of cars having the same issue with the same part, i would think Honda would correct the issue without spending $1,000’s. There were no symptoms prior. It seems that the internal soldering on the VSA modulator has been coming apart, shutting down the system.
All the lights on my dash came on associated with the abs module fail.. it also affected my alternator as i believe the car is working to hard. The barks are weird the car drives sluggish. My lights cone on and off.. when they are off the car drives just fine. Many accords have this issue and no parts can be found. Something is not right
All the safety error lights come up on dash (ABS, steering control, tire pressure, stability control) all aluminate. Initially they would only come on when vehicle sat while running for more than a few min and once parked overnight they would not come back on. Now they are on 100% of the time and never go off. There a a ton of videos out there with a faulty ANS module. Honda is selling them for like $1400 part + labor. An entire industry has started to repair them and video showing the fault in wiring showing bad soldering joints where very thin wire is attached. My car has 95,500 miles on it.
The ABS/VSA Module failure: Tire pressure, traction control, steering, Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) dash lights come on; the vehicle is available for inspection upon request, pending recall or private repair. The safety of the driver, passengers, and outside parties is at risk in case of brake failure or brake locking in a situation where the LDW or FCW has failed to alert the driver of a pending collision. The dealer conducted a diagnostic service on the morning of 07/01/2024 indicating ABS Module and Brake Flush, codes 81.19 and 81.20, with a repair cost of $2,385.49 for the ABS Module part and labor of 4.95 ($3335.49) and Brake Flush labor of .8 ($179.95) for a total cost of $3,575.44. The vehicle or parts have not been inspected by police, insurance representatives, or others, although Galpin Honda performed the above diagnostic. The vehicle dashboard lights mentioned above come on shortly after driving the vehicle at times, with the lights alternating between on and off at any given start-up—they can light up or be off at start-up/drive-off.
The contact's mother owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The power steering warning light was illuminated. The driver was able to pull over to the side of the road. The driver turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle responded as needed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the power steering control module (PSCM) had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not covered under an unknown recall campaign. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
There is something wrong with the electric power steering. Every time I drive my steering wheel pulls to the left so if I let go of the steering wheel the steering wheel will pull to the left and could potentially cause a car crash and while driving and difficulty steering (either steering feeling too firm or too loose). This is happening without the electric power steering warning light being illuminated. I do not feel safe.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH and slowing to exit the highway, the steering wheel was turned to the right and seized. The contact pulled over and stopped the vehicle. The vehicle was turned off and restarted several times however, the power steering feature was inoperable. The vehicle was towed to a dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the EPS torque sensor had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact researched online and related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 15-056 EPS Torque Sensor (Steering). The contact had spoken to the dealer and to the manufacturer but was informed that the vehicle was no longer covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 115,008.
Steering gets very stiff sometimes and you have to yank it to control the vehicle's direction. This has been happening over the past year and is now happening more frequently. The warning light comes on sometimes. The problem has not yet been reported to the dealer but from reports on the web this seems to be a common problem in 2013 and 2014 models.
The ABS module on these accords go bad prematurely, causing many lights on the dash board to come on. It happened to my step father in his 2014 accord unfortunately causing him to total his car due to the breaks locking up in the rain and now my car has the same problem. There are even forums about this issue and Honda definitely needs to issue a recall and fix this issue
This morning I started my car and everything was normal. I started backing out of my driveway and my steering wheel would not turn in any direction. The steering light is on in the dashboard and the steering wheel is locked. I went back into my driveway to turn the vehicle off and back on, but nothing changed. I’m lucky this didn’t happen while driving on the road.
driving home from manhattan i hit bump and the steering light came on and i could not steer my car. Realizing what happened (i first thought the car stalled) i was able to put the car in neutral , shut it off, and restart it hoping the problem would go away which thankfully it did. Needless to say i was very lucky not to be hit by another car as this was a very dangerous situation. I have read about others having this problem and wonder why Honda has not addressed this very dangerous problem YET. i am afraid to drive my car in fear of this happening again and maybe not being so lucky next time.
Re: complaint #11590390, after loosing my steering I had to take my car to the dealer I found no recalls on this website but much to my surprise there is. Honda replaced the steering gearbox. Total parts and labor came to $3056.69. The recall campaign number for the ESP gearbox replacement is 15-056-5Z200, good info for the future for you and anyone else having this issue. Not bad for a eleven year old car, not to mention how happy I was not having to pay for the repair. Thank you Honda.
The ABS on the honda accords from 2013-2017 all have failures right now. My car and my friends car has the same issue. Took it to the dealership and the guy working there even said this should be a recall. Alot of the honda accords have been having this same issue. All the warning lights on the dash light up and its because of the bad ABS module going bad. I realy think honda should take responsibility on this. It is costing me $3,318 to fix it.
2013 Honda Accord accelerated to a very high speed when driving from the church parking lot, braking did not stop it. barely avoided hitting a car. On Sunday [XXX] at around 13:45pm, as I was leaving the church parking lot, driving at around 5 miles an hour, the car suddenly accelerated to a very high speed, I tried braking but that did not stop it. The car entered and crossed the street, barely missed hitting a car, then entered the parking lot of a dollar store, finally stopping on the far side of the parking lot. No one was injured and no damage occurred. Triple A was called immediately. had car towed to dealership (Neil Huffman Honda, 1607 Greentree Boulevard, Clarksville, Indiana 47129. Car was at the dealership for two days, the car was driven, and an extensive examination was done, but they could not duplicate the concern and did not find any problems with the vehicle. When this episode occurred, there was no prior warning and the action of the vehicle was extremely fast. This was absolutely scary. Please let it be known to the Honda Manufacturer that the car is defective, this defect needs to be fixed as soon as possible, before someone or multiple people are seriously injured or killed, or extensive property damage is done. The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that after taking the vehicle for regular maintenance, the dealer stated that during the tire alignment, the steering indicator light illuminated. The dealer diagnosed that the steering gear box failed due to the torque sensors needing to be replaced. The contact had the vehicle towed to another dealer who confirmed the diagnosis and referenced TSB: 15-056. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.
The contact owned a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30-35 MPH, the steering wheel seized. The driver was unable to turn the wheel. The vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a tree. There were no warning lights illuminated. The driver had bruises and a concussion, and medical attention was provided. There was no air bag deployment. A police report was filed. There was no reported fire. The vehicle was towed to a towing lot. The local dealer was contacted but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 195,000. The vehicle was deemed a total loss by the insurance company. The VIN was not available.
Lost power steering while driving.
The ABS Module has failed. The repair is almost 3,000 from Honda. The car is not safe once it reachers 80mph the vehicle loses control.
I was stopped at a stop light. The light turned green and I started to go. My car had a major issue and was stuck in traffic. I had to push the vehicle out of traffic with the assistance of the Police Department. My vehicle was not operable. After an investigation into the issue, the Driver front axle broke in in half. No lights or prior indicators existed before the incident. Repairs have been made and this issue has caused damage to the other axle. Both have been replaced by authorized repair shops. I continue to have a “wobbling” issue while accelerating. I did go to a Honda dealership for the balance issue. They did say it is common for the axle to break and there was a recall for my Make/ Model and Year that I did not qualify for. Paperwork is attached. I have children and if my children were in my vehicle with me and I was on the highway this incident could have led to serious physical injury or death. There is a current recall which my vehicle doesn’t apply for. I believe my vehicle should apply. A news article from Honda shown to me by a Honda Dealership rep is attached as well as invoices.
Our 2013 Honda Accord driveshaft fractured completely under a low condition when accelerating from a stop straight into a busy intersection. As a result, with the drive train now disabled I had just enough motion to coast a couple of car lengths, across the adjacent gap in the turning lane traffic, to the side of the road stopping adjacent to the curb halfway around the corner. As the corner was heavily traveled by semi-trailer traffic, I needed to get corner cleared as soon as possible to avoid causing an additional traffic hazard. Fortunately, there were those who stopped to help push the car up a hill and clear the way for other vehicles attempting to negotiate the corner. I currently have the defective part in my possession. Due to the location in a busy intersection other including myself were at risk trying to clear the roadway. The repair shop mechanic inspected the failed drive shaft as well as my local Honda service manager. I found afterwards that there is a known recall on component (Part 573 Safety Recall Report [XXX]) for a defect that causes rusting of this component. I was not made aware of the this recall. The recall appears however to be limited to certain states due to their road de-icing/salting policies. Our state of South Dakota was not among them. This prevented owners (and I assume dealers) in our state (South Dakota) from getting any advanced warning of the possible safety hazard. Also, no instrumentation on the vehicle or changes in driving performance can warn you of this impending failure. In my view this defect should have been made know to all owners of 2013 Honda accord and certainly in states such as South Dakota, as even the mud that accumulates on the vehicles drivetrain from the miles driven on unpaved roads can be even more detrimental to improperly protected metal parts, such as this drive shaft. The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front tire and the steering wheel were vibrating abnormally. Additionally, there was a burning odor coming from the front tire. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) module. The contact was informed that the VSA module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the VSA module had failed. The contact was informed that the VSA module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under recall. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 163,993.
MY ABS & all related braking lights on dash display pop up every now & then, on & off, & is not on permanently full time. Mechanic said it could be the module. I heard it last week on the radio about this Honda issue & said it was a safety & braking issue. I don’t see it on the recall list, but people with a 2013 Accord has many complaints about it on YouTube web & various searches. This should be a recall & what are we supposed to do about this safety defect?
I lost control of vehicle while driving because the electrical steering motor stopped working. I’ve had the electric starter already replaced twice with Honda parts and it’s still not working. There’s something wrong with the steering. I already placed a complaint and I have not heard back from Honda or NHTSA. I sent letters to NYS Senators Schumer and Hillabrand and I have not yet heard back from them yet either. I sent letters emails to Congress and the Senate transportation committees. I’ve found testimonials for the same issues online even with videos. I just read a complaint that was nearly identical the experience I had except it happened in 2020. The power steering stops and starts same for the cars starter and windows. I took the car to Honda dealer to repair it on March [XXX], 2024. I now have a car repair bill for $8500 at Curry Honda in Yorktown Heights. They said I needed to replace entire exhaust system $3000 because they couldn’t get to the steering column without taking down the fragile exhaust system. Basically, I had no choice. In order to start the repairs they wanted a $4,500 down payment which I paid. They’ve now had the car for 37 days. They described the steering column and motor system as being completely corroded to the point where the steering column was going to snap/break. What they said at the Honda dealer was the Honda steering motor and wiring was completely corroded which is not common. A few weeks later they told me that the knuckle/ball bearings were rusted out and that all the shock absorbers needed replaced as they were also rusted out even the screws according to them. They said these should all be replaced or I would fail inspection. The bill went from $3000 to $4700 to $6200 to $7900 to now $8500 includes tax. They’re still working on the vehicle and they’ve had it since March [XXX], it’s now May [XXX], 2024. I’ve asked them for the parts that they’re removing and they said they’ll save the parts. Do you want them? Recall? INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
ABS Contol Module Failure. Error code 81-19. Ther is a major defect with the modules failing from 2013 through 2017 Hondas. There are so many failing that there are no parts in the market and the part cost around $1600. this is a safety concern as abs breaks can lock up.
Electronic steering motor. Car would jerk to the left into oncoming traffic. Reproduced issue at Japanese auto import. Ordered and replaced oem steering motor.no warning lights or symptoms Pryor to first incident. Had new oem part installed and the replacement part is acting same way and making some clicking sounds after less than 10,000 miles, and 18 months.
While driving on [XXX] in South Carolina (we are from Ohio and were on a vacation to celebrate [XXX]) we started our turn into the left lane to pass a vehicle when the steering wheel suddenly sharply turned on its own and shot us towards the medium and oncoming traffic. As my husband was able regain control and hard steer to the right before we hit oncoming traffic we were, as you can imagine, terrified. We were able to steer the car to a safe pull off and tried to recover our nerves and start the process of figuring out what was happening and what we were going to do as we were so far away from home. I Googled the problem we were having and learned that we were not alone in having this steering system problem. I was extremely disappointed to learn that this was a known problem but there had been no recall. We had no indications nor any information that this could occur. We located a Honda dealership approximately 22 miles from our location and decided we would carefully try to get to that location. At the dealership we were told it was a known problem but they would have to locate parts, which they did in Atlanta, and have them overnighted if possible. They were very helpful, drove us to a hotel which we paid for, as we waited for parts to arrive. While fixing the electronic steering system they located another issue with another electronic box that had something to do with the starter which needed to be replaced as well. Each of these problems I came to understand were known to Honda, and I believe NHTSA, but no recalls were issued. I'm sorry but I believe that the potential to be killed and to kill others due to the failure of the electronic steering system while driving a vehicle that is known to have these problems is a recall and should be repaired and replaced at Honda's expense not those that invested in what they considered a safe vehicle. Our bill for these repairs was $3,826. 41. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
A steering failure. Unable to steer the car. It goes to the left and steering wheel is not returned to the center and kept turning out of my lane. I've brought the car in authorized Honda dealer on 1/29/24 for full maintenance service on 1/29/24 and there are no recalls on this issue.
Steering wheel hard and solf at times hit a dip in the road and it will jerk the wheel to the left it has jerk the wheel out of my hands making a left turn if you not holding it firmly with both hands an they extended the warranty for 13 years an then tell you it has to throw a code before they will fix it under warranty this should be recalled its very dangerous nothing but a scam to keep from replacing an charge u 85 dollars to tell you the rack needs replacement 2900 dollar what a sham do yall job an recall these cars .
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that upon shifting the vehicle to drive with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle suddenly jolted forward. Later, while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to decelerate, the vehicle suddenly downshifted, losing motive power. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was able to diagnose the failure, but the contact was unable to recall the diagnostic result. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 69,000.

My car meets all the issues explained in recall from nhtsa [XXX]. the gas tank and the fuel service neck are not well connected and gas leaks out causing the engine light to stay on. The car meets production date, issue and the VIN is actually included in the range provided by honda to [XXX] . But somehow my VIN isnt recalled INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATI[ON ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On 1/24/24, we were driving at about 65 mph. With no warning, FCW, LDW, ABS, Tire Pressure and check engine lights as well as FCW System Failure reported on dash. The car slowed to about 20-25mph and sounded rough. Cars behind were going with speed of traffic (about 65) and had to break behind us and were honking their horns at us despite emergency flashers on. We pulled over and turned off engine for a few minutes. We turn engine back on and warning lights were off and we could drive normally again. We thought it was a glitch. About three weeks later on 2/21/24, we were on a highway pass over mountain traveling about 65mph. The lights came on again and car slowed again to about 25mph. This was very dangerous on a pass with many cars accelerating around us on the uphill part of the pass. We had to pull over again. We turned engine back on but FCW and LDW lights remained on. We were able to drive normally again. When we got home, I took the car to a mechanic who did a diagnostic test and replaced the high pressure fuel pump. The FCW and LDW lights remained on as well as notification of FCW System Failure. The mechanic said he did not have recalibration equipment and I would have to go to Honda dealer for recalibration. I have an appointment on 3/6/24 with Honda for recalibration. I have since gone online and see many Honda owners are having this occur with various fixes but the problem has recurred for many owners. This is very dangerous and needs to be addressed ASAP before a collision occurs and possible death of those involved as a result.
Steering completely locked up. No errors or warnings appeared on the dashboard so the car was towed in for repairs. The dealership updated EPS software to fix the issue.
Car driving normally until sudden power steering failure. Steering wheel stayed straight when I tried to veer left - I had to use two hands to steer for the rest of the drive. This could’ve been dangerous in the initial moments as I was driving downhill and around a curve in wet weather. No dash lights have come on, and I haven’t driven it again yet. Car hasn’t been inspected yet as it’s Friday afternoon.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel independently jerked to the right. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and was diagnosed with a defective electric power steering (EPS) gear box. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under warranty or recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 124,419.
This FCW Failure appears to be a common issue for the Honda Accord. The Honda declaration is claiming that it is the ABS Module that is causing this issue. Several posts are on the internet concerning this safety issue in these vehicles.
Lost ability to steer vehicle. It was impossible to steer the car. The car was running on and in one instance moving at low sped in my own driveway. There have been 3 instances when this happens. The problem went away after turning the car off and restarting the vehicle. 2) the starter won’t start on occasion as it takes multiple attempts to start vehicle. 3) I had to replace the starter and also a sensor forward collision sensor so the entire dashboard display for every light would turn off. Literally, every light on the dashboard turns on, even for low tire pressure. The bidders concern from operation perspective is the steering. There’s no doubt in my mind that this is a critical and serious defect with this make and model of the 2013 Honda Accord. I looked online and there are literally thousands of reports of the same issue. There are complaints of uncontrollable steering too. One gentleman did a YouTube video demonstrating what’s happening. I will do the same for the steering in this vehicle the next time it happens. Why hasn’t the NHTSA issued a mandatory recall and forced Honda to make this recall happen now. I hope this isn’t a political decision because I know lives are in serious jeopardy with this loss of ability to steer the vehicle with no warning. Lastly, I’ve bought and owned 5 Honda in my lifetime: 3 Honda Accords, 1 Odyssey and 1 Pilot and I’ve never needs to file a complaint in the past as they’ve always been a reliable, safe vehicle. I’m extremely concerned about this problem and I urge NHTSA and Honda to do the right thing and issue an immediate recall to remedy this issue. You are now aware of this issue in a formal complaint and it appears that there are already several thousand complaints based on what’s online. Please take action.
The steering system failed/malfunction. when turning the wheel counter-clockwise, the steering wheel jerks and temporarily shuts down the vehicle even while driving. Steering wheel has failed during the middle of a left hand turn in multiple intersections. Very unsafe and scary situation when the car does not respond or perform any inputs when the drive is trying to correct/move the wheel. the steering wheel stiffens and is unable to be moved for a few seconds while the car is on Drive. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer but stated since there are no codes provided, they are unable to service the vehicle and are unsure what that issue is and what may be causing it. vehicle has been inspected by multiple Honda dealerships, no one is able to determine what is causing this issue *but they can reproduce it) No warning lamps or messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. Issue first became apparent and has been getting progressively worse about 2 year ago (150,000 miles)
The steering suddenly became hard to turn right on a freeway going at 60 miles per hour (and came to normal in about 10 seconds) and then in about 10 more minutes when I took a left turn exiting the freeway, the steering remained stuck going left and had to pull it back to center with some effort. Got it checked with a honda dealer and they say something is wrong with the EPS system, where some torque value at rest is incorrect. There is a 13 year extended warranty for EPS torque sensor but only if certain codes show up. Unfortunately those torque sensor DTC codes do not show up on my vehicle and they say it could be a shorted EPS motor and hence it's not being covered in warranty and the current recommendation is changing the entire steering rack and I'm asked to pay out of pocket. There are lot of EPS complaints for 2013 accord
