The power steering stops working making it very difficult to drive especially when turning. I do not know what caused it but over the past several days it has gone off multiple times. Thankfully I have not been in an accident. The car is going to be inspected at the end of the week. Vehicle immediately experienced total loss of power steering. Not suitable for a test vehicle which is experiencing uncommanded steering. VEHICLE REPAIRED.
I have lost my ability to turn the steering wheel while driving without warning which is extremely dangerous! Luckily we were close to home. I had very limited ability to turn the steering wheel. It was super tight. If I were on an interstate I would not have been able to switch lanes or turn suddenly as I had no ability to. I took it to Hall Honda in Charlotte, NC and they couldn’t locate the problem as it didn’t happen during their test drive. The power steering warning light appeared after the wheel stiffened. I took my car to a local Auto Zone and she tightened some screws and my steering wheel mysterious loosened. I’ve been able to drive it with no problems for the past month. Unfortunately when I turned on the car this morning the steering wheel won’t turn. I have no way to work. This is extremely dangerous and a major inconvenience. This is my second Accord. I loved my first one, but I no longer want this car. Please help!! Thank you!!
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle was difficult to start. The contacted stated that the battery was replaced several times; however, the failure recurred approximately 3-4 months later. The vehicle was jumpstarted and was towed to a Toyota dealer, where the battery, the alternator and alternator belt were replaced; however, the failure recurred the following morning. Additionally, the contact stated that an unknown warning light was illuminated. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V418000 (Electrical System); which the contact related to the failure; however, the contact had not received a recall notification from the manufacturer. The Honda dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 70,722.
In February 2022, inspection by a Honda dealer technician revealed random malfunctioning of magnetic system in steering rack causing car to turn at random on its own that can lead to collision while driving.
The steering wheel started jerking to the side on it's own causing vehicle to veer to the side. Now it is stiff and erratic. We had previously had the harness replaced for the passenger side mirror which the dealer said had a short and had caused a stiff steering wheel approx 2 years ago
Power Steering failure. The steering wheel became stiff to turn left or right, in the middle of operation. I was able to get over on the side of the road by switching lanes with very strong force.
The car will steer on its on its will fully turn all the way to left by its self and then is quite harder to steer back to the right. You will have to fight with the wheel to keep the car going straight. I have look around quit a bit and have found multiple complaints about this exact issue.
All warning lights on the dashboard suddenly lit up one day. The car is in excellent condition with all recommended maintenance up-to-date and no accidents. Honda dealer said the VSA modulator needed to be replaced and quoted $1756 + tax for the repair. Parts are unavailable, so repairs cannot be made. Dealer admits this is a very common problem with Honda vehicles and suggests I do not worry about it and just keep driving the vehicle - even though safety features are all disabled and the car may not be safe to operate. An online search reveals this is a VERY common and known issue that Honda USA has failed to address.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the steering wheel was pulling to the right. The contact stated that while attempting to correctly steer the vehicle, the vehicle was still pulling to the right. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was driven home. The contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer to be repaired. The manufacture was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
Electric power steering system failed while driving car. I stopped the car for about 15 minutes to reset system, but it failed again after driving another 5 minutes or so.
While driving the car, the steering icon pops up and becomes hard to steer the vehicle. This happens every time you drive the vehicle. It started 3 days ago, and it hasn't gone away. We went to a car repair shop, and they found no issues when connecting and looking through the code. Even when the icon is on and indicates that there is a problem, the steering sometimes get fixed and reverted back to its original state. A few minutes after, it just goes back to the hard steering. I don't know why it would just randomly turn off the EPS while driving, but that is a very dangerous thing when on the road, randomly shuts off while making a turn could cause a crash.
Driveshaft failed at dynamic damper by metal breaking.
Since 2022 I have been having Abs brake modulator problem. Dealer said it will cost $1700. I have noticed 80% of Honda customers have complained about this to Honda manufacturer but they are refusing to fix it.
Got in the car to run an errand, started backing out of the driveway and when I went to turn the wheel it locked up and the power steering light came on, lost all power steering. Had it towed to a shop and they said they can’t find anything wrong and I would have to take it to a Honda dealer.
When pulling into my driveway, the dash lights suddenly all turned on, and the engine started racing causing the car to crash into my house.
It happens at least twice a year for the past 8 years I’ve owned the car , the eps light comes on and it’s hard to steer my car, ive almost been in accidents every time this happens , there should be a recall on This issue and so thing should be done before someone or myself gets hurt
When making a right turn without warning the steering went out, I lost control for a short period. My auto repair person has confirmed a continuation of the problem. Had I been in a different location it could have caused a collision endangering myself and others. I'm told the fix is to replace the rack and pinion and the tork senso.
VSA, brake, ABS, EPS, tire pressure light always on and won’t go away! I thought there would be enough information about this in the web. There is but, not actual solution. You would have to change out so much and still the lights would come back. Recently, my VSA light coming on and off have made my brakes and something else grind whenever i press on the brakes. To a point where I would need to pull over and hold vSA off button to not have brake grind when pressing on them. There should be enough content to be able to realized that this is a cause and concern for Honda vehicles.
while driving on the highway the steering wheel begin to veer sharply to the left causing the car to enter the right lane - luckily I was able to avoid hitting another car
As I was driving, the steering wheel jerked and I had to redirect it, but it was difficult to turn. I pulled over to figure out what was happening and noticed the power steering light on. I restarted the car and was able to make it home safe. It happened again and I took it to a mechanic, but he said he couldn't get it to happen while he was test driving the car; however, it happened repeatedly as I drove home a week later. When it happens, I am able to get control and pull over to restart, but not everyone will be able to regain control without power steering. It is not reasonable for a driver to expect their car to randomly veer off the road and lose power steering so they cannot regain control due to a fault that a mechanic cannot replicate and that is not being recorded as a trouble code. Vehicle has not been repaired.
I was involved in a car accident on 12/12/2. The air bags didn't deploy. They definitely should have. I have pictures of the outside of the vehicle. I can receive police report the insurance currently has the vehicle. We were traveling 70mph and was tboned then ended up sliding out of control and hitting the ground after a 4ft drop off a drainage ditch. Two points of impact the car is totaled and not one airbag deployed.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the steering wheel inadvertently lost power steering functionality. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to continue to drive the vehicle by forcefully maneuvering the steering wheel. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the power steering gear box needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000. Updated on 3/6/22: I (contact) own a 2013 Honda Accord. Contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the steering wheel inadvertently lost power steering functionality. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to continue to drive the vehicle by forcefully maneuvering the steering wheel. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the power steering gear box needed to be replaced. Honda Dartmouth in Massachusetts let the contact know that the car would fall under Service Bulletin 15-056 Warranty Extension: EPS Torque Sensor (DTC 53-01 or DTC 53-02) as the power steering gear box assembly needed to be replaced but, the car did not pull the code when plugged in. The car VIN number did pull as eligible under this warranty. Contact called Honda manufacturing and they stated they would not do anything for the contact as the car did not pull the code DTC53-01 or DTC 53-02 and that the cost of repair would be at the contacts expense.
Car has intermittent problem starting the engine, will not start. The starter, battery, key fob battery have been replaced.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel inadvertently moved to the left. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic informed the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with steering failure. The steering gearbox needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000. The VIN was unavailable.
All Light came on ABS BRAKE TRACTION
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel would jerk to left and lost power steering assist while turning to the left. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle had a software update performed; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 16,000. Regularly occurs, not repaired.
Sudden failure of steering wheel. It became extremely difficult to turn out of nowhere. I was parking when it happened thankfully. But turning the car off and on didnt help. It is still parked since yesterday. I haven’t checked to see if the problem corrected itself.
The electric power steering seems to be failing on my 2013 Honda Accord intermittently with no warning light present. While my husband was driving the vehicle at highway speeds, he indicated the steering wheel suddenly wanted to turn to the left on it's own. I drove the vehicle the next day and really did not notice an issue. However, my adult daughter drove the vehicle the following day and after driving the vehicle a short distance had to return home because the steering suddenly became very difficult to turn to the right, but super loose when turning to the left to the point it was almost impossible to control. I drove the vehicle for myself and found the same, plus the steering was extremely jerky, not at all smooth as it once was. The vehicle is in the repair shop now with an independent mechanic we trust 100%. He lifted the vehicle and was shocked at how the steering is reacting, advising the vehicle is definitely not safe to drive in it's present state. His extensive research, coupled with the codes presented, leads him to believe the rack and pinion needs replacement. Unfortunately, the repair cost is quite high due to the parts cost and labor involved. After reading all of the reports online about this exact same complaint from other consumers, I am disturbed that Honda has not done a recall. If so many of these vehicles are having this exact same issue, and it is a very strong safety hazard, why is this not considered an incident that requires recall? And how can I be assured that the Honda replacement parts are not going to fail in the future for the exact same reason? Do I now have a vehicle that is unsafe and I will constantly worry the steering is going to fail? I live in a rural area and hate to think that at any time the steering could fail and my car and it's occupants could end up in a ravine or body of water. Even after the repair is complete, I will always be uneasy driving this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving 10 MPH, the steering wheel was firm. Additionally, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to stop the vehicle in a reasonable amount of time. The contact also stated that the transmission was shifting rough while driving. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the part to repair the vehicle was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I believe that my vehicle, a 2013 Honda Accord Sport CVT, should be included in this recent safety recall in regards to CV Axles that are at risk of excess rust/corrosion which left untreated could lead to a crash or injury. Safety recall in question (Service bulletin 20-125) - https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2020/RCRIT-20V769-5506.pdf Honda of America refuses to look at my case because my VIN is not a part of the original recall. My local Honda dealership did let me know that this recall was issued only for vehicles sold in the Midwest because they are more susceptible to rust and corrosion. I originally purchased the vehicle in Florida (I'm the original owner) in October of 2012. I moved to Iowa in 2015 and am now experiencing the same problems as the safety recall in question. I've had my vehicle inspected by my local Honda dealership in Des Moines IA and they have confirmed that I'm showing the same symptoms as the recall that require a complete CV axle replacement. Because my VIN number was not included in this recall, they are unable to perform any repairs. I've called Honda of America and because of my VIN, they also refuse to even look at my case even though I now live in an area that uses a high volume of salt on the roads during the wintertime. I believe that I am not the only one and others could be at risk if they also moved to an area with a high volume of salt on the roads. I’m concerned about driving my vehicle anywhere because I know that my CV axles are at risk of breaking under load.
Power steering failure accompanied by steering warning light. Vehicle difficult to steer and steering systems seems to be trying to assist in the opposite direction trying to steer. No accidents or damage at this time but seems to pose a dangerous situation. Dealer did not refuse to diagnose but discouraged leaving vehicle for diagnosis until failure was continuous as opposed to the current intermittent failure.
My 2013 honda accord coupe has had severe steering problems for the past year, the steering does not want to respond where i cant even drive my car anymore
Steering has becoming increasingly heavy, feels “spongy” , and is pulling to the side when making turns… I am extremely concerned that there is a failure with my vehicle’s power steering that may cause me to lose control or cause an accident.
When driving down an even and flat road, the steering wheel will rotate very fast to the right and if I did not have my hands on the steering wheel it would of taken me right off the road. I stopped the car and centered the steering wheel and then let it go and it rotated at least 1 full turn to the right. I centered the wheel again and turned it hard to the left. After that the wheel stayed centered. But, once I started driving again, the wheel pulled hard to the right and I had to repeat the process to get the wheel to center. This most certainly is a steering issue.
When going over small bumps strong pulls to one side dramatically, causing car to jerk out of lane
The ABS module went out. The vehicle has 80k original miles and less than 10yrs old. I had to spend over $1200 to get it fixed. This a safety issue and definitely needs to have a recall.
CAR VEERED LEFT HARD, NEARLY CRASHED ACROSS MULTIPLE LANES ON I-95 SOUTH IN ORMOND BEACH, FL. POWER STEERING FAILED, WOULDN'T STOP VEERING LEFT AND HARD TO TURN RIGHT. HAD TO REPLACE RACK AND PINION AND POWER STEERING GEAR BOX. NO WARNING SIGNS IN CAR TO NOTE. PROBLEM CONFIRMED AT AUTO SOLUTIONS Ormond Beach AS POWER STEERING AND GEAR BOX.
Car began jerking to the right while driving. It feels like the power steering is out in 50% of the car.
Recently purchased car from used car dealer with 84,000 miles. Driven 1 month. 19 yr son was driving straight on 45mph road and power steering turned completely off. He is a newer driver and luckily managed the heavy steering. This could have been deadly if it happened around a turn. Car was turned off at home for 2 hrs and system reset upon start up. Not sure what to do?
While driving under ideal conditions my steering suddenly stopped functioning. I was on Hwy. 190 in Covington, LA which is a heavy traffic area. It was extremely unsettling and frightening. This ordeal, so far, has cost me: Towing charge $85.00, rental car $600.00, estimate on parts, labor and tax to replace the "Electrical Power Steering Control Unit" which Royal Honda mechanic says "FAILED", is $1,170.00. This is the second recall issue I have had with this vehicle. The first was in February, 2021 when the "Starter" failed at my odometer reading of 75,235 miles. It had to be replaced at total cost of over $500.00. WHAT'S NEXT Next!!!!!
I placed my car in revers and it began to spin uncontrollably to the left. I was able to, with difficulty, pull it back but it continued to spin once I backed up. Next day when I turned right, the steering wheel suddenly pulled me to the right. It is hard to steer and I was told it is steering Rack failure. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. It is putting my safety and others at risk as I do not know when it will pull to the side. Honda of Concord was able to reproduce the problem and co formed the issue. It was only taken to the dealer which is Honda of Concord. No accident has happened yet. There was no warning. It just happened the evening of 10/7/2021 and again 10/8/2021. On the way to Honda dealership, it pulled when I turned on the way.
Steering wheel jerked to one side (left) without warning
The ABS Module has failed on this car. Upon a lot of research, I have found that a lot of people are stating they have had this same issue with their honda accords within a few years before and after. This is a $1700 fix from Honda that most people are not going to be able to afford and a lot of people are having problems with..... the part is also on a nationwide backorder which to me seems like they have surely had to replace a lot of them..... I believe that this should be investigated for a recall. I spoke with someone at Honda and they also agreed that this should be looked at for a recall. This could be very dangerous to have failing ABS systems on vehicles. Research on forums where people discuss this will show that this is a common problem and a recall should be considered.
This morning as I pulled out of my parking spot into my driveway, I turned to the left. As I released pressure on the steering wheel to return to driving straight ahead, the steering cycled hard to the right. I thought perhaps loose stone had caused the unusual response, but thought better, slowed the vehicle (under 5 mph), and released the steering wheel. The vehicle pulled hard to the right. I got out and checked for a flat and checked to make sure the wheel hadn't somehow come loose. I decided that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and parked it. While parked, I cycled the steering all the way to the left. When I started to turned the wheel back to the right I could feel pressure in the steering wheel attempting to turn the wheel right. I released the wheel and the steering cycled completely to the right without my assistance. The car was parked on a dry, level surface at the time.
Vehicle suddenly turned left on its own, also partial lost of power steering. Even with vehicle parked, it turned totally to the left. There were no dash warning lights indicating a problem I took it to Dean Honda and it was still doing this when I arrived there. The technician said he could not duplicate the problem, and that no code came up. They stated Honda would not pay for the repair unless error code came up. They expected me to simply take the car and I stated that I would not as it was unsafe to drive. They agreed to keep it and try to duplicate the problem which after about a week they did, but still no code appeared. I contacted Honda headquarters who eventually agreed to replace the steering box "as a courtesy" but if it happened again , they would not pay for the repair. While I am happy that they repaired it, I feel that these vehicles should be recalled and Honda is using the "no code" as an excuse to refuse paying for these repairs and this is an ongoing, dangerous defect. This Accord has only 24,000 miles and is in excellent condition and I am the original owner.
TSB 13-053 has not been honored, no notice was sent recently made aware due to CVT juddering/shaking issues. Needs Throttle Body Replaced and updated software for optimum performance. Noticble mostly start stop or under 15mph.
While driving, the steering is intermittently difficult to control and/or lacking resistance. There have been multiple occasions when it takes a great deal of effort (physically) to control the vehicle--almost as if there is a loss of power steering. Conversely, the steering wheel almost spins freely--requiring extra motion to steer the car and making it difficult to control. Of most concern is that the malfunctions occur without warning—resulting in the car drifting toward the adjacent lane on several occasions. Fortunately, I was able to make the correction in time--preventing the car from crossing into the next lane and possibly causing a collision. The local dealer checked the steering on May 20, 2021. At that time, the steering wheel was returning to the home position on its own—while I was driving the car and attempting to turn. The dealer did a diagnostic, performed a sensor re-learn and several other procedures. After exhausting all options, they contacted the Tech Line to inform them that the car was still difficult to turn during the road test. The Tech Line responded that this can be caused by hitting the curb and other driver-related mishaps. Although the adjustments made at the dealership improved the condition, it was clear that the manufacturer didn't provide the support required to resolve the problem. The steering worsened last week to the extent where I felt unsafe driving the vehicle. I took it to a different repair shop, it was inspected, and they recommended that it not be driven until repaired. After doing some research, it was clear that this is an on-going problem that has yet to be corrected by Honda. Currently, the car is parked and I have no transportation.
The driver's side sun visor will not stay in the upright position, sometimes blocking my view of traffic signals or other items, even those below the level of the rear-view mirror. Honda wants $150 for the part. There are may YouTube videos about the problem caused by a failure of a cheap piece of plastic that is prone to breaking. It seems to me that Honda should fix this safety feature as part of a recall.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, she lost control of the steering wheel. The power steering assists warning light is illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The independent mechanic stated that the electronic power steering control module had failed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the electronic power steering control module had failed and was a manufacturer’s defect. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the case was opened. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000. The VIN was not available.
I was driving on the highway and my car just whipped to right like I was making a u turn .
