The power steering failure while driving on highway ( Check Engine, EPS, VSA, Tire pressure 4 lights turn on the dashboard at the same time) , it's suddenly and unpredictable. I keep driving on outside lane prevent any broke down or crash other vehicles. It's hard to control and accelerate . my car just finished the regular maintenance one month ago, and in very good shape. It's very dangerous situation, I decide drive to dealer for check, and report to NHTSA for safety reason. upload the dealer check worksheet page, and will upload more files if needed.
I was driving on a road that was curving right, as I’m curving the steering wheel right the vehicle instead went left into the other side of the road.
At 73,000 miles was not able to use push start to start vehicle. It would take several tries and was stranded where we were. It progressively got worse and finally we could not start vehicle. Since they have no other way to start this vehicle. Tried to take to Miller Honda Winchester they were rude charged over $800 just to look at. Couldn’t get us in for a while. So took to another repair garage in Winchester since we needed vehicle.
I was driving with my 2 kids after school on Highway 40 West towards exit 192, the car suddenly pulled to the left side without any warning, Though the situation was scary and horrible I managed to stop the car in the grass area between east bound and west bound highway. The steering does a perfect 90 degree turn automatically. I took the car to the nearest Honda service center next day morning (Sep. 14, 2021). They came back with a diagnosis to replace the entire transmission which costs$3,000 plus tax.
All of a sudden, without any warning, one day, I turned on the engine of my 2013 Honda Accord and the steering wheel went all the way to the left. I hadn’t even touched it and when I tried to turn it to the right, the steering wheel kept pulling to the left. I had to go to work so I drove like that since my work is not far but I had to keep pulling the steering wheel to the right firmly with both hands, otherwise it would go to the left on its own making it hard to pull back to the right (hard to control). It did it when I was driving and also when I was stopped. It did it again on my way home and a couple of days after that but then it went away all of a sudden just like it came. It now comes and goes randomly but the steering wheel feels stiff either way, not soft like before. The warning lamp didn’t come on so my car apparently looks ok. I had it checked by a mechanic who told me that the car seems fine. He didn’t see anything abnormal when he checked it. I’ve looked it up online and some people have reported the same issues but have been ignored since the lamp light doesn’t come on so it’s like the problem doesn’t even exist. I do feel it’s a safety issue when I’m driving and all of a sudden my car pulls to the left. This needs to be addressed since I’m not the only one with the issue but maybe people don’t know where to report it.
Drivers-side CV Axle Broke on 9/8/2021. Lost all drive power on residential street while backing out a driveway. No accident occurred. Was diagnosed by AAA and Service Center as Driver Side Broken CV Axle. No warning lamps, messages or other warnings. Car was in for a full service and inspection at a Honda dealer on 3/8/2021.
Accord does not start frequently. Lights and electrical turn on, but does not turn on. Battery, alternator, key battery and starter were replaced with the same problem. After about 10 minutes or so after trying the vehicle will start. It has left me stranded many times. Honda will not assume responsibility. After reading blogs many owners with 2013 and 2014 Accords experience same problem with no known fixes.
On 9/3, I filled up my Accord with gas and went to start my car again. Upon starting, I saw my power steering light had come on. I called my local shop to see if I could take it by there Friday morning and they couldn't accommodate due to the busy Labor Day weekend. So I called the Honda Dealer (Right Honda) in North Scottsdale and was able to schedule a visit for 7:30am on 9/4. I drove my car home on 9/3 and by the time I made it home, the power steering had come back but the light was still on. The morning of 9/4 I get in my Accord to take it to Right Honda... the power steering light was not on anymore and the car was steering fine. Right Honda told me they can't do anything for me since the light wasn't on anymore... that weekend, 9/5, my light comes back on while I'm away from town and I have to drive it back home without power steering, which felt kind of dangerous. I scheduled a time to take it in for service on 9/7 at my local service center, not Right Honda. It is now 9/20 and I'm being told the part I need is on a national shortage. We've been waiting for almost two weeks now and I'm curious how/why this part can be allowed to be on national shortage when it's a defect of Honda's? I've seen there's plenty reports (100+) of the electronic power steering failing in 2013-2015 Honda Accords and I'm surprised they have the replacement part on a national shortage. This is disappointing as a loyal Honda customer.
In early September 2021, my wife was driving our 2013 Honda Accord Sport 2.4L when she stated the steering was pulling itself to the left. It startled her as she was driving in traffic when it suddenly pulled left into another lane. She was able to keep control of the car and brought it straight home. I verified that when my car ignition was turned on, the steering wheel will turn to the left by itself... spinning several times counterclockwise. I also confirmed that there are no EPS error codes or warning lamps shown which seems strange there are no OBD codes. We called the local Honda dealer and they stated there is an issue with the EPS and we could bring in our vehicle for repair. I took my vehicle to the local Honda dealership for the repair of this EPS defect which they originally stated would be fixed free of charge. The dealership confirmed the defect condition on my vehicle and performed the Honda prescribed repair of reprogramming the EPS ECU. However, this did not fix the concern on my vehicle but only lessened the EPS steering force. The dealership contacted Honda directly to request a full replacement of the EPS rack on my vehicle. After about a week of delay, Honda responded and stated that since my vehicle is more than 5 years old, they are declining to replace the steering rack at their cost. They have quoted to me a repair cost of $2,900. This is evidently a mfg defect with the EPS rack system and creates an unsafe driving condition due to steering control. This EPS concern needs further investigation and a recall seems necessary as Honda is only following a programming change which does not resolve all concerns as mine still exists on my vehicle. So now when driving my vehicle, you cannot remove your hand from the steering wheel, or it will steer itself continuously left. Again I feel the vehicle steering system is a critical function and Honda should repair at their cost.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
Steering feels like it holds when driving in curve and doesn’t want to turn back straight.
Hello, The steering wheel starts puling me to the left without any warning, while i was driving at 20 mph. It almost cause me to crash. Since it happened the steering wheel almost constantly pulls me to the left. My Accord 2013 has only 62,000 miles. I took car to the dealer. Upon inspection found steering gearbox/eps unit has internal failure. Estimate 3258.95. Honda's corporate office does not reply to my complain. Thanks
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the steering wheel failed to turn. There was an unknown warning light illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
Streeling wheel is constantly steering to the left even when the car is stationary.
Car suddenly began pulling and steering to the right. Have to apply force to steering to keep it straight or turn or correct to the left. Happens when driving, and even when parked the front wheels and steering wheel will pull some to the right, steering wheel turns right on its own. Checked front tire pressure and that's OK, didn't resolve the issue.
Steering wheel start puling to the left. It doesn’t stay in the neutral position ( wheels straight). I have to apply unnecessary force to keep it straight or make a right turn. Feels extremely unsafe. No warning signs indicated on dashboard. Planning to take it to the dealership.
Electric powered steering (EPS) just failed on me, fortunately I was able to handle it and take car to secure location.
Failure of keyless remote system - Honda Service Bulletin 13-038 System will not respond to keyless remotes and eventually will disable car ignition system. This is a safety for several reasons: 1. The doors can only be opened using the key which is embedded in the keyfob. In case of emergency or for people with disabilities, this is a huge problem. 2. The trunk cannot be accessed unless the door is opened and the trunk released manually inside. There is no key lock to access the trunk from outside the vehicle. 3. The panic button will not function on the keyfob. 4. The car will not start unless the keyfob is placed next to the driver's dash. Eventually, the car will not start at all and the occupants will be stranded. This is a huge issue. The vehicle has been inspected by a Honda dealer and a ticket opened with Honda. Honda now states that they will not help with repairs as the vehicle is past warranty.
The ABS Modulator has failed. It is available for inspection for $120 at the dealer which does not go towards the repair. I went to an independent shop and was told that they can't figure out the problem because of the complex computer system in Hondas. I then had it inspected at Honda and was told I need to replace the modulator for $1650 parts and labor. The ABS system including the front collision warning and lane departure warning are no longer reliable. If I put off the repair I am at risk of the antilock brake system failing and the brakes locking up, the stability and traction control not working, and the brake pedal may become unresponsive over time. There are 5 warning lights that come on intermittently. This has been happening for the last year. This is a defective part and an ongoing problem for 2013-2015 Honda owners with many forums discussing the issue. It can occur with any amount of mileage on the car so that doesn't seem to be a factor.
2013 Honda Accord Deadly Electronic Power Steering Failure. Once the slightest input is received from the operator to move the wheel left, the wheel starts turning on its own in that direction and does not return to center. In some cases, the turn can be abrupt causing the vehicle to steer sharply into oncoming traffic or out of its lane. The problem is so bad that I had to have the fuse for the power steering pulled in order to avoid collisions, especially when my teenage son is operating the vehicle. The vehicle was purchased used with about 111, 000 miles on it and the steering worked for about 30 days. After that the above noted problem occurred without remedy. I made and posted a video that illustrates the problem. Please use the link below to see exactly what is happening. https://youtu.be/SNiLWlmFbm8
The car will intermittently lose power steering all of the sudden and jerk the car to the right. On other occasions the car will automatically steering right at a stand still. It is believed to be either electrical or mechanical but involving the EPS and rack and pinion. The vehicle was inspected by a certified Honda technician. My personal safety and safety of others that have entered my car have been at risk any time I am in this vehicle. On most occasions the EPS light would fail to come on when this occured. It may be on one out of every ten times the issues occured. The code that occurs is a visa system malfunction.
Driving on highway with grooved pavement felt steering wheel start pulling to left needed to hold steering very tight to control car. Pulled car into a parking lot and when applying brakes and loosing hands from steering wheel the car pulled left and steering wheel started to turn on own doing a complete 360 degrees or more. Brought car to an auto center to have assessed and was told rack and pinion gear is damaged. The part is on National back order from Honda according to service center. No warning lights or symptoms appeared prior to this incident.
Sudden loss of steering making the vehicle very difficult to steer. Told by by Honda dealership that cause was steering rack failure. The steering rack was replaced by dealership on 8/9/2021. No warning lamps were triggered during failure. No steering issues were noted prior to this immediate steering failure.
My car started jerking to the left uncontrollably. For safety reasons I am not driving because I lose control of the steering wheel. Took it to a Honda dealership and they said that I need to replace power steering rack and inner rods. The cost is $3100. This vehicle only has 119,000 miles , this should not happen
EPS light randomly comes on and power steering is lost. Took car to Honda in 2019 and the problem seemed to be fixed until about a week ago. Very scary and dangerous!
The car has been driving funny for a few weeks. The car will not go into gear.
My power steering dashboard light came on and the steering wheel would barely move. Luckily this happened when I was parked and not while I was driving. Did some research and found that this is an ongoing issue with 2013 Accords. I had to tow the car to the dealer and pay them to replace the computer part that had gone bad. I'm just glad this didn't happen while I was driving. This car only has about 59,000 miles on it.
Battery sensor. Recall fixed it once. Same issue reoccurred on 7/20/21 and it is melting the fuse box making it unsafe to drive
I receive a message that states FCW System Failure, which turns on multiple indicators on my dash board; TPMS, ABS, traction control, steering icon, etc. It disables my front collision warning as well as my lane departure warning, so I am not alerted anymore. The issue happens every time I drive. Sometimes within minutes, and other times after driving for about 20 miles or so. I have not taken it to a dealer, as they will more than likely not know what the problem is, based on many other people posting about this. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance reps, or others. No, the lamps and indicators on the dashboard is what started coming up when it first started happening.
Power steering torque sensor or steering rack. I see that there is already an investigation for this. I was driving down an off ramp, when the front of my car suddenly turned to the right. I did not feel the car hit anything. I was able to correct it. However, since then there's been something obviously wrong with the steering. When I turn the steering wheel to the left it responds normally, but there is a specific angle at which the wheel vibrates though. If I turn the wheel to the right, the wheel is tense and also has a specific spot where it vibrates. It vibrates at one spot on the first and second spin of the wheel. If I drive straight the car seems fine. None of the dash lights have turned on. The dealer said to replace the steering rack. However, they can't even get the part due to the computer chip shortage. They said it is on back order and the earliest they could get it is in 6 weeks. Their estimate was around $2,700. So now I just don't have a car and if I get forced to trade it in it's value is bad, since it can't be fixed due to the shortage. If they eventually do a recall, I'll get nothing after I sell the broken car.
The steering indicator warning light came on and the steering wheel would not turn. Luckily the car was in a parking lot and no injuries occurred. The car was towed to the area's Honda facility and repaired at a cost of almost $3000 dollars. The steering rack was replaced as it is integral with the steering torque sensor and the faulty part.
While driving during the week of 07/15/2021, the steering became hard to control and pulled to left very strongly. I managed to get home. The steering was reset and yesterday 07/24/2021 the issue occurred again. Steering wheel is very hard to control and freely "turns" to the left. I cannot drive this vehicle and cannot afford costly repair but this is a true safety issue none the less. It is impossible to control the steering. I drive less than 30 miles per week and rarely go over 45 miles per hour as I use this vehicle for errands only since I retired. I am mortified to think about what could happen if I were on the interstate driving 65 mph!
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, he became aware that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and waited for a few minutes before restarting the vehicle. The warning lights disappeared, and the contact continued driving to his residence however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) modulator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the parts being on backorder. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Steering suddenly became loose to the right and veered the car into oncoming traffic. Extremely difficult to turn the steering wheel left. Honda dealer states steering gearbox failed internally. There was no warning or warning light and dealer is unable to explain the failure other than it is an “internal issue.”
The backup camera display intermittently goes to all black except for the yellow guidance lines that normally overlay the image. The passenger-side camera continues to work normally as do all the other dash displays. This has been happening for a several months. It seems to be happening more frequently now. These are the same symptoms as what triggered the Accord 2018 recall to fix buggy camera software. Without the backup camera display it is difficult to determine how far you are away from objects behind you and lower height objects such as small children are completely out of sight. The rear cross traffic view is also unavailable. Yesterday my wife nearly backed up into a car behind her because the backup camera view was blacked out. The problem occurred twice today. Once while in our driveway and once while my wife was backing out of a parking space. The problem has not been reproduced as it is intermittent.
I pulled into store shut vehicle off and came out started it unable to turn steering wheel and warning light on. Can turn the vehicle wheel without extreme heavy force
There was a sudden loss of power steering control. The wheel suddenly turned to the left and was very difficult to return to neutral. We took it to the dealer and there were no diagnostic codes and they "re-set" everything. The problem returned about a week later. Warning lights were not evident in either instance of the problem.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the steering wheel was difficult to turn. The power steering assist warning light was illuminated. In addition, the steering wheel ceased. The contact mentioned that after waiting for a few minutes the steering wheel functionality returned. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 84,900.
For several years, the starter has been work sporadically. This started in 2014. It has progressively gotten worse. I cant count on the car to start.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 mph, the steering wheel would drift to the left and it was difficult to maneuver the vehicle. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the steering wheel continued to spin. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that the rack and pinion failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.
Car steering pulled heavily left without any warning and nearly resulted in a head-on collision with oncoming traffic. The steering wheel also turns hard left with no assistance when the ignition is turned on. This is a very serious safety risk and in need of a recall so that Honda can inspect and correct whatever engineering defect is causing this and to preemptively repair the problem before any injuries/fatalities occur
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the steering wheel became difficult to turn and felt tight when turning in either direction. Also, while driving the vehicle would pull to the left. Later, after starting the vehicle the steering wheel erroneously turned 360 degree. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the steering rack and pinion were faulty, and the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 78,000.
The power steering just gave up while I was driving. It made my car shift to one side. It was shaking. I was able to safely bring the car to a complete stop. But I really scared me. I’m glad it was not worst. According to a mechanic is the steering wheel. But they said they are not sure why it happened. I’m reporting this because is very dangerous and could eventually be a fatality. I also notice that there are other people that have had the same problem. I need this to be recall. Is very dangerous.
Loss of steering control
Steering very stiff and pulls towards the right, very hard to turn to left, smelling like something is hot - burning - sensor light is on Took to dealership states rack and piñon needs replaced over $2,000.00 repairs- I would notice when driving on straight highway and let go of steering wheel would pull to right then the burning smell & hard to turn to left all while having to drive my 2 1/2 year old grandson to work & childcare always been satisfied with car very heartbreaking and expensive
Same problem described in this article: https://www.consumerreports.org/car-recalls-defects/honda-accords-under-investigation-for-steering-problems-a4542071576/. About two weeks ago it just started pulling dramatically to the right with no warning - no icons lit up on the dashboard. It is such an aggressive pull that I almost went into the highway median a handful of times. Once I turned the wheel a bit to the left it would lessen or stop only to reoccur a short time later. It is at my Honda dealership now and the part is ordered and they said it's under warranty. Amazingly the head technicians didn't know anything about it. I had to google it to find out how big of an issue it is. Anyway, it is real and is a major issue.
On June 10, 2021 while pulling into my driveway the power steering went out on the Honda. The steering wheel spun around and the car made an immediate left turn. Tested car on cul de sac by my house and the steering wheel fights to go straight and pulls hard to the left resulting in immediate left hand turn. When trying to drive, the steering fights to go in any other direction than left and if and you do not have a tight grip, the car will turn left.Took Honda to my independent car repair on June 11. He was able to replicate the issue & told me it was the EPS and should be covered by Honda on extended warranty from a Federal Recall. Appointment made for June 16 at Coggin Honda Orlando and was car towed there on June 15, 2021. June 16, Honda called and said the EPS and outer tire rods were broken. The parts were the parts included in the recall and extended warranty but the car was not showing trouble codes 5301 or 5302 so car was not covered, and they would have to charge me $2,730.25 for the repair. In fact, car was showing absolutely no trouble codes or potential coeds of any kind. Service advisor Gus Ramirez & his boss Fadi Alzeideh both agree the part that is covered under the warranty is the part the needs replaced but their hands were tired due to no 5301 or 02 codes. Case started with Honda Corporate on June 17, 2021. Case number 12296417. It shouldn't matter if there are trouble codes. The steering issue wasn't fixed during the initial recall in 2015 and should be covered now. Had this happened 10 minutes earlier I would have been on the freeway during heavy traffic and people could have been seriously injured. Car was taken into Rick Roush Honda in Ohio for the initial recall on November 11, 2015. Awaiting case manager and decision on warranty coverage from Honda.
Power steering shut down twice in two days. Orange warning light came on each time. Problem cleared after engine turned off for a minute or so, but returned after 20 further miles driving. Dealer verified there was an error code, said it would be covered under a warranty, and has kept the vehicle until repairs can be made. Dealer stated that there are many problems like this, and cannot yet give me a date when it will be repaired, or even a date by which they can give me that date!
Steering has a mind of its own. Wanders lanes and driver has no control for several seconds. Have drifted into other lanes while trying to control / steer but no response. This lasts for just a brief time but it's extremely unnerving. Recently the car turned hard right with no notice. Luckily had both hands on the wheel and steering worked enough to pull left before I ran off road. Frankly, I am afraid to drive it. Took the car to local dealer yesterday. They ran diagnostics and test drove but found no issues with steering. I advised that I could not retrieve the vehicle late yesterday but would do so this morning. Several hours after that conversation, having heard that they found nothing wrong, the same rep called me and said "you can't drive this car". He relayed that technician was moving the car from the bay to the lot when the car took a hard right and nearly collided with another car parked in their lot. The tech brought the car back to the shop and up on the rack where they observed the car again make a hard right turn. No one was behind the wheel when this occurred. I just rcvd an estimate for repair ~ $3,700.00. Electronic power steering rack assembly accounts for $3,140.00 of this cost. Alignment & some other diagnostic costs take it up from there.
Backup camera not working. Sporadically. Can’t see pedestrians or other vehicles or objects. This is strong safety issue. Car was designed to use it. Can’t visually see without it. Almost hit child on bike, and other pedestrians. Honda had recall on 2018 accord for this, but not 2013. Have read of many, many others this model and exact problem..
