ALL 4 ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT DUNLOP SP20 TIRES FAILED FOR THE SAME REASON WITHIN A 2 MONTH PERIOD. VEHICLE IS 3.5 YEARS OLD. MILEAGE IS UNDER 28,000 INNER AND OUTER LAYERS OF RUBBER SEPARATED. IF I DID NOT NOTICE THE FIRST AND KEEP A CAREFUL WATCH ON THE OTHER 3, THIS MIGHT HAD CAUSED A CRASH. FIRST TWO WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY WITH A 60% CREDIT ALLOWANCE. THE OTHER TWO I AM REPLACEING WITH A DIFFERENT BRAND.*AK
THE VEHICLE'S REAR OXYGEN SENSOR FAILED. *NM THE FRONT SENSOR WAS REPLACED AS WELL. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. *SC *JB
HONDA CIVIC 2000 MODEL. CAR ONLY HAD 15600 MILES WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED.UNE 25, 2003 - MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ON. HONDA ADJUSTED THE VALVES.JUNE 28, 2003 - MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ON. HONDA REPLACED OXYGEN SENSOR.*AK JULY 3, 2003 - MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ON. HONDA CHANGED PRESSURE REGULATOR. JULY 21, 2003 - CAR STALLED AND ENGINE DIED. HONDA REPLACED FUEL FILTER, FUEL PUMP SET, IGNITION COIL, IGNITION CONTROL MODULE. AUG 25, 2003 - CAR STALLED, ENGINE RUNNING BUT NO ACCELERATION (DOES NOT MOVE), CAR MAKES CLACKING NOISE. HONDA SAID THEY WILL CHANGE THE FUEL TANK AND FUEL PUMP. CAR IS STILL AT HONDA. MY CAR HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERS FOR THE 5TH TIME IN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS. THE DOWN TIME IS MORE THAN NORMAL.
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE TRYING TO START VEHICLE WOULD BE HARD TO START. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR FAILED. I REPLACE IT AND THE MECHANCIC TOLD ME THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON THIS CAUSE A LOT OF WIPERS WERE FAILING. IF IT HAD HAPPENED WHEN IT WAS RAINING, I COULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THE MOTOR ALWAYS MADE A CLICKING SOUND AND THE NEW ONE MAKES THE SAME SOUND. I'VE BEEN TOLD THESE PARTICULAR MOTORS ALL MAKE THIS SOUND BUT I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S RELATED TO THE MOTOR FAILURE.
I GOT INTO A CAR ONE AFTERNOON AND HEARD A RATTLING SOUND, I TURNED OFF THE A/C TO MAKE SURE IT WASNT THE ENGINE. AS SOON AS I TURNED IT OFF, THE SOUND STOPPED. I TURNED IT BACK ON AND DROVE DOWN THE ROAD AND HEARD SOMETHING FLY OUT FROM UNDERNEATH MY CAR AND SUDDENLY THE AIR WAS BLOWING HOT OUT OF THE A/C. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP TO GET IT LOOKED AT AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE CLUTCH FROM THE A/C THAT HAD BROKEN OFF AND IT NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IN REPLACING THE CLUTCH, I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE COMPRESSOR AND DRIER ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH WOULD COST ME A TOTAL OF $950.00. BEFORE I HAD TAKEN IT IN, I WAS TOLD THAT IF IT WAS STILL BLOWING AIR THAN IT WASN'T THE COMPRESSOR, SO WHY WOULD IT NEED TO BE REPLACED? OF COURSE, HONDA WONT STAND BEHIND IT AND PAY FOR THE A/C UNIT BEING FIXED. I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN 2000 AND HAVENT EVEN HAD IT 3 YEARS YET.
WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND LURCHED INTO THE AIR, RESULTING IN A COLLISION. THE CONSUMER'S FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THE ACCELERATION OCCURRED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT PROVIDING ANY ASSISTANCE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. ALSO THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RETRACT, IT WAS LOOSE. THIS RESULTED IN THE CONSUMER IMPACTING THE STEERING WHEEL. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT THE SEAT BELT RECALL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED 3 TIMES. *AK THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY AS WELL. *SC *JB
I BOUGHT MY 2000 HONDA CIVIC USED FROM A DEALER IN APRIL OF 2003. AFTER ABOUT 2 MONTHS OF HAVING THE CAR, I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN THE GAS TANK IS ABOUT A 1/4 (QUARTER) OF A TANK AND/OR BELOW THE CAR STALLS (HARD TO START) WHEN TRYING TO START THE ENGINE.THIS HAPPENS DURING ALL SEASONS. THIS IS MY FIRST CAR AND I AM NOT SURE OF WHAT TO DO. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER TO INSPECT THE CAR AND I AM HOPING THAT SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I AM A YOUNG WOMAN, AND IT'S OFTEN SCARY AT TIMES WHEN I AM GETTING INTO MY CAR AT NIGHT AND IT DOES THIS.*AK
I WAS IN A HEAD ON COLLISION GOING ABOUT 30 MPH AND AND MY AIR BAG DID NOT GO OFF UPON IMPACT. I WAS WEARING MY SEATBELT SO I SUSTAINED ONLY MINOR INJURIES.
THE CAR WOULD NO ACCELERATE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. DEALER CLAIMED NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND MANUFACTURER HAD NO PRIOR COMPLAINTS. AN EXPENSIVE PCV VALVE WAS REPLACED. *JB
I WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION AT ABOUT 25-35 MPH WITH ANOTHER CAR. THE OTHER CAR'S AIR BAG DEPLOYED BUT MINE DID NOT. THE WHOLE FRONT END OF MY CAR IS DAMAGED. *NLM
AIR-BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY ON IMPACT. *TT
THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION, THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RESTRAIN THE CONSUMER. *JB
LUMPS FORMED IN THE CUSHION OF DRIVER'S SEAT. MR THE CONSUMER HAD TO USE A PAD WHEN DRIVING. *JB
WHEN I START MY CAR, SOMETIMES IT WILL START HARD. THERE HAVE BEEN A COUPLE OF TIMES WHERE IT WOULDN'T TURN OVER UNITL THE 3 OR 4TH TIMES I TRIED TO START IT. ALSO, AFTER I DRIVE A LITTLE WHILE MY CLUTCH WILL MAKE A CLICKING NOISE AND IN FIRST GEAR WHEN I TAKE OFF MY CAR MAKES A CLUNCKING NOISE. BOTH NOISES ARE UN USUALLY LOUD. YOU CAN DEFINATELY HEAR THEM OUTSIDE MY CAR TOO.*AK
WHILE FOOT IS ON BRAKE AT 4-WAY, CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE ENGINE WILL START TO REV UP. TOOK IT TO HONDA IN PEORIA IL - FIRST TOLD THAT "THEY" DIDN'T CARE TO WORK ON MY SUV BECAUSE IT WASN'T A TRUE HONDA. THEN, THEY DIDN'T BELIEVE ME. AFTER THE THIRD TIME, THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS AFTER THE CAR WAS BROUGHT RIGHT OVER AFTER THE PROBLEM HAPPENED. NOTHING SHOWED, SO THEY CHANGED OUT A COUPLE PARTS INCLUDING THE CC SWITCH AND ACUATOR. PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR, BUT NOW THE CAR SHUTS OFF. NOT GOOD WHEN YOU HAVE A GREEN LIGHT. NOW, THE CAR IS OVERHEATING, ALWAYS A QUART LOW EVEN THOUGH OIL CHANGES ARE AT 3,000 MILES. ALSO, THE FUEL GAUGE KEEPS DROPPING THEN GOING BACK UP.
MY BACK LEFT TIRE BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH (SPEED LIMIT) ON THE INTERSTATE. MY TIRES HAD JUST BEEN ROTATED AND BALANCED, AND THE AIR PRESSURE ADJUSTED ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 11, 2003. AT THAT TIME, NO PROBLEMS WERE REPORTED. I HAD 33,000 MILES ON THE CAR/TIRES AND HAD THE TIRES ROTATED EVERY 7500 MILES. MY TIRES WERE FIRESTONE FR680, P185/65R14 85S. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING THE CAR TO BEGIN A SUDDEN SPIN ACROSS THE INTERSTATE. NO ONE WAS INJURED, UNBELIEVABLY. I RETURNED TO THE PLACE WHERE I HAD MY TIRES ROTATED AND BALANCED JUST TWO DAYS BEFORE. THEY WERE VERY HELPFUL AND REPLACED THE TIRE AT NO COST. THEY ALSO INSPECTED THE VALVE OF THE TIRE THAT HAD A BLOWOUT AND FOUND IT TO HAVE A LEAK.
I HAVE A 2000 HONDA CIVIC EX. FROM THE FIRST DAY OF OWNERSHIP, THE CAR'S ANTISKID BRAKES SOMETIMES KICK IN WHEN NOT NEEDED. FOR EXAMPLE, RIDING OVER BUMPS SUCH AS A RAILROAD SOMETIMES SETS THE ANTISKID OFF AND IT CONTINUES FOR SOME TIME AFTER THE RAILROAD HAS PASSED, THUS UNNECESSARILY INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCE. SOMETIMES JUST ON PLAIN ROAD IT DOES THE SAME. IT SEEMS TO OCCUR MORE IN COLD WEATHER. WE HAVE A 2000 ACCORD AND IT DOESN'T ACT THIS WAY. I HAVE DRIVEN MANY OTHER HONDA'S AND NONE EVER ACTED THIS WAY. I AM AFRAID THIS MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT MAY SOMEDAY LEAD TO A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I HAVE COMPLAINED LONG AND HARD TO HONDA CORPORATION, BUT THEY INSIST THE DESCRIBED PROBLEM IS IMPOSSIBLE TO OCCUR. THEY MAINTAIN THAT THE BRAKES ARE A 'BLACK BOX', AND EITHER WORK PERFECT OR NOT, ALL THE TIME. THEY HAVE LOOKED AT THE CAR, AND SAID SINCE THEY CLAIM THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND SINCE IT CAN'T POSSIBLY OCCUR ANYWAY IN THEIR OPINION, I AM OUT OF LUCK. SURELY MY HONDA IS NOT THE ONLY CAR THIS EVER OCCURRED IN. IT IS ALMOST LIKE SOMETHING IS LOOSE, LIKE A SENSOR OR A RIGHT FRONT SUSPENSION COMPONENT(S). PLEASE HELP BEFORE HONDA CORPORATION KILLS SOMEONE. I HAVE TOLD HONDA THAT I PERSONALLY HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANY ACCIDENT. THANKS. J RICKY SIMMONS

CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE PARKING VEHICLE THE GEAR SHIFT BROKE APART IN HAND WHILE PLACING CAR IN PARK. THE SCREWS CAME OUT FROM THE BASE OF THE GEAR SHIFT ASSEMBLY. TS

SIMILAR EXPERIENCE FOUND IN INTERNET RE: HONDA CRV CAR DIES/STALLS FOR NO APPARENT REASON; NO OTHER INDICATION THAT SOMETHING ELSE IS WRONG. WHEN CLUTCH IS PUSHED IN AND/OR CAR PLACED IN NEUTRAL; ENGINE JUST DIES. DT
CONSUMER STATES THAT HE HAD THE RECALLED IGNITION SWITCH REPAIRED AND FEW MONTHS LATER THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. *MR
AFTER RETURING TO MY PARKED CAR, I PUT THE KEY IN AND TURNED THE KEY, NO DASHBOARD LIGHTS WENT ON AND THE ENGINE DID NOT CRANK. I TURNED IT BACK TO THE OFF POSITION, TURNED OFF THE VENT BLOWER AND TRIED AGAIN. THEN IT STARTED JUST FINE. ANOTHER TIME I WAITED 30 SECONDS AND IT STARTED AFTER FAILING THE FIRST TIME. HONDA SAYS (9/30/2002) MY CAR ISN'T INCLUDED IN THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL. IT WOULDN'T FAIL FOR THE DEALER. RIGHT NOW, I'M GUESSING THAT I DON'T NEED TO DO ANYTHING WITH WITH THE BLOWER SWITCH, JUST RETRYING THE IGNITION SEEMS LIKE IT WILL WORK. WE'LL SEE WHEN IT OCCURS AGAIN. MR

TREAD SEPARATED, BUT TIRE STILL INFLATED, CAUSED FRONT END DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. *AK
5 SPEED - ENGINE STALLS WHILE IN FIFTH GEAR. HAVE TO PULL CAR OVER AND RESTART. CAR TAKEN REPEATEDLY TO REPAIR AND NO PROBLEMS COULD BE FOUND. FINALLY LOOKED UP RECALLS ON INSURANCE COMPANY'S WEB SITE AND SAW RECALL FOR ENGINE SWITCH. TOOK CAR TO DEALER TO REPAIR AND EGNITION SWITCH REPLACED. STALL HAPPENED AGAIN. CALLED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS INFORMED THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON CARS IN MY VIN SEQUENCE. SAID I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE CAR TO DEALER AGAIN FOR REPAIR. NO ONE CAN SEEM TO TELL ME WHY THE CAR KEEPS STALLING. IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I'M DRIVING IN 5TH GEAR AT 50+ SPEEDS. SITUATION IS SCARY BECAUSE OF THE SPEEDING TRAFFIC AROUND ME. NOT SURE WHAT ELSE I CAN DO. DT
I ATTEMPTED TO USE MY CRUISE CONTROL, AND THE CAR BEGAN ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. I TRIED TO PRESS THE BRAKE AND TO MANUALLY TURN OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN. PRESSING THE BRAKE AS HARD AS POSSIBLE WOULD STOP THE ACCELERATION, BUT WOULD NOT DECELERATE. I CALLED AAA WHO CALLED THE STATE POLICE. THEY RECOMMENDED PULLING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. AFTER PULLING THAT AND KEEPING MY FOOT AS HARD AS POSSIBLE ON THE BRAKE, I GOT THE CAR DOWN TO ~30MPH AND TOOK THE KEYS OUT OF THE IGINITION. SUBSEQUENTLY THE DEALER STATES THAT THEY CANNOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY HAVE FOUND SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE REAR BRAKES, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND TO THE WHEELS. I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE DEALER AND HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY SINCE THEY CANOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. I DO NOT FEEL THAT THE CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE IF THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED AND FIXED. I AM DESPERATELY LOOKING FOR HELP IN DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE. THANK YOU!!*AK
WHILE DRIVING, CAR WILL JERK VIOLENTLY, FEELS LIKE SEVERAL CYLINDERS ARE NOT FIRING, THEN START BACK UP AGAIN. AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF THIS KIND OF SPUTTERING, THE ENGINE WILL THROTTLE DOWN AND THEN DIE. WHILE IT IS HAVING THE PROBLEM THERE IS A DRASTIC LOSS OF ACCELERATION. IF THE GAS PEDAL IS PUSHED NOTHING HAPPENS AND IT BOGS DOWN MORE. AFTER THE CAR HAS DIED IT CANNOT BE RESTARTED FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. THIS CAR HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 11 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT IT, OWNING IT A TOTAL OF 16 MONTHS. TWICE IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND ONCE THEY WERE ABLE TO START IT IMMEDIATELY AFTER IT WAS DELIVERED. IT HAS BEEN IN SERVICE FOR A TOTAL OF 29 DAYS. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT IN, I HAD DRIVEN 4,000 MILES AND ONLY OWNED THE CAR LESS THAN 3 MONTHS. PROBLEM IS SPORADIC, MANY TIMES WHEN I HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR SERVICE THEY HAVE NOT FOUND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT, THEN IT WILL DIE ON ME ON THE WAY HOME. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES, SPARK PLUGS TWICE, AND OXYGEN SENSOR ONCE, AND IT STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM I TOOK IT IN FOR THE FIRST TIME. *NLM

AT 50MPH AND WITH NO WARNING TRANSMISSION WILL AUTOMATICALLY SWITCH TO LOWER GEAR. CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT DISENGAGE OUT OF GEAR WHEN THE CONSUMER STOPS PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL. THE ENGINE MAKES A KNOCKING NOISE WHILE WARMING. *YH

DEALER CHECKED MULTIPLE TIMES AND VERIFIED SLIGHT DROP IN PEDAL MASTER CYLINDER BYPASSING INTERNALLY. REPLACED BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND BLED SYSTEM. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *TT
WHEN THE CONSUMER PUT HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO PUT THE GEAR IN DRIVE OR REVERSE THE BRAKE DID NOT HOLD EFFECTIVELY, CONSUMER DISCOVERED THE BRAKE HAD TO BE PUMPED SEVERAL TIMES IN ORDER TO GET NORMAL BRAKING POWER, THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. *AK *JB

WHILE TRAVELING AT 15-20 MPH VEHICLE GOT OFF THE ROAD AND RAN INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. UPON IMPACT, NONE OF THE FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. CONTACTED DEALR, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. *AK
VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AND PARKED ON SLOPED DRIVEWAY IN 1ST GEAR WITH PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED FULLY AND ENGINE OFF. DRIVER WALKED INTO HOUSE CAME BACK 5-10 MINUTES LATER. VEHICLE HAD ROLLED DOWN HILL AND HIT TRANSFORMER. WHEN VEHICLE WAS OPENED PARKING BRAKE WAS FULLY ENGAGED BUT WAS NOT IN 1ST GEAR BUT NEUTRAL. WE TRIED TO RECREATE THIS EVENT. THERE WAS NO WAY DRIVER COULD HAVE LEFT THE VEHICLE IF BRAKE WAS NOT FULLY ENGAGED DUE TO STEEPNESS OF THE DRIVEWAY. IF BRAKE WAS NOT FULLY ENGAGED, VEHICLE WOULD ROLL VERY FAST DOWN DRIVEWAY. I WAS IN A HEAD ON COLLISION AND NEITHER OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. MY HANDBOOK SAYS THAT THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE WENT OFF. THEY DIDN'T. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 40-45 MPH, VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD-ON COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, RESULTING IN AN INJURY. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *JB
