A/C HAS GONE BAD IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE AND HAS BEEN REPORTED AS A COMMON ISSUE IN 10TH GENERATION HONDA CIVICS.
WHEN TEMPERATURE SPIKES HIT THE AREA I LIVE IN THE STEERING SEEMS TO STICK SLIGHTLY WHEN DRIVING.
STEERING BINDS FORCING DRIVER TO EXERT EXTRA FORCE CAUSING OVERSTEER. A CLUNKING NOISE CAN BE HEARD COMING FROM THE STEERING RACK WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS WAS ORIGINALLY DETECTED DURING A DRIVE BETWEEN HOUSTON AND AUSTIN MAY 2019 AND WAS NOTICEABLE ONLY WHEN DRIVING LONGER DISTANCES AND HIGHER SPEEDS, IN PARTICULAR ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A HONDA DEALER IN JUNE 2019 WHO IDENTIFIED THAT THE STEERING RACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. BECAUSE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY (40 MONTHS, 46K MILES), I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR WHICH THEY DISCOUNTED FROM $3,800 TO $900. I OPTED NOT TO MAKE THE REPAIR BECAUSE I BELIEVE HONDA WOULD BE ISSUING A RECALL AND SINCE THEN THE STEERING HAS GOTTEN WORSE, OCCURRING ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR AT ANY SPEED WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES ARE ABOVE 80F. HONDA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUES AS IT HAS CHANGED THE PART NUMBER FOR THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING RACK ONE OR TWO TIMES SINCE THE VEHICLE ORIGINALLY CAME OUT, BUT HAS YET TO ISSUE A RECALL. LATEST PART NUMBER IS 53650-TBC-A22. HAS NOT RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT YET, BUT I WILL BE REPAIRING AS IT IS HAPPENING ALL THE TIME NOW AND I BELIEVE IT IS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS. *TR
BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON FLASHING, BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT, AND ERROR ON PANEL ELECTRIC PARKING BREAK FAILURE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A RECALL ON MOST 2016 MODELS
THE A/C was not functioning. It was not blowing cold air. The A/C suction hose was leaking. The A/C suction hose was replaced and refrigerant was added. After the repair, the A/C functioned normally.
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE THE BRAKES SLIDE (VIBRATE A LITTLE) THIS DOESN'T ALWAYS OCCUR BUT WHEN IT DOES IT IS OBVIOUSLY FELT WHILE USING THE BRAKE PEDAL DURING DRIVING. THERE IS ALSO A NOISE WHEN I INITIALLY START MY VEHICLE, I NOTICED THE ONLY WARNING LIGHT IS THE BRAKE LIGHT ALERT.
ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE ON MY 2016 HONDA CIVIC SEDAN WILL NOT ENGAGE. I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW FROM HONDA. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER 350,000 MODELS ALREADY BUT MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED. MY ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE STOPPED WORKING IN LATE 2017. I CALLED HONDA CIVIC ALREADY BUT THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT. I HAD ONE INCIDENT WHEN I WAS IN MOTION IN THE FREEWAY; MY CAR WENT FROM 65 MPH TO ABOUT 35-40 AND SKID AND ZIG ZAGGED; THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME BUT WAS ABLE TO EVADE HITTING ME. AFTER THAT I STOPPED USING THE BRAKE ALTOGETHER. UNABLE TO USE ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE ANYMORE AS I AM AFRAID THE CAR WILL ROLL DOWN WHEN PARKED ON HILLS. *TR
MY AIR CONDITION COMPRESSOR IS DEFECTIVE AND LEAKING THE NEW VERY FLAMMABLE REFRIGERANT R1234YF GAS OUT FROM THE COMPRESSOR ITSELF. THE SHAFT SEAL SEEMS TO BE WHERE IT IS LEAKING. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND HONDA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO REPLACE ALL OF THE DEFECTIVE COMPRESSORS THEY INSTALLED IN THEIR CARS.
I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND AT ABOUT 35500 MILES THE STEERING WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, STRAIGHT ALWAYS OR TURNS IT KEEPS FEELING LIKE IT IS STICKING. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO HAD ME PAY FOR AN ALIGNMENT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOT PULLING. IT DID NOT WORK AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS. THEY HAVE NO OTHER SOLUTIONS. IT IS DANGEROUS AND I AM STILL PAYING ON MY CAR SO I NEED IT.

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND HIT A POT HOLE ON A 2 LINE HIGHWAY, THEN THE TIRE BLEW OUT CAUSING ALL THE SIDE AIRBAGS AND STEERING WHEEL AIR AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. THE CAR DID NOT HIT ANYTHING ELSE NOR WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION ACCIDENT.
I HAVE A 2016 HONDA CIVIC EX, I WAS ON THE ROAD FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES IN MOTION DRIVING STRAIGHT WHEN THE STEERING BECAME HARD LIKE IT WAS STICKING. I GOT ON THE INTERSTATE AND ACCELERATED THE FASTER I GOT THE WORSE IT GOT.IT'S PULLS ME TO THE LEFT AND THEN TO THE RIGHT. I THEN LOWERED MY SPEED TO 50 BUT IT STILL CONTINUED TO DO THIS AND HAS NOW GOTTEN WORSE IT NEVER STOPS AND IS VERY HARD TO KEEP IN ONE LANE.KNOW THERHAS BEEN RECALLS ON THE 2017 HONDA CIVICS FOR THE EXACT SAME REASON. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE FOUND THAT IT WILL EVENTUALLY LOCK UP AND HAS ALREADY CAUSED ACCIDENTS. I DON'T WANT TO CAUSE ANYONE ANY INJURIES OR GOD FORBID SOMEONE LOSE THEIR LIFE. IT'S GETTING ALOT WORSE . WILL NOTIFY HONDA. IMMEDIATELY!
WHILE DRIVING MY 2016 HONDA EX-T DASHBOARD LIGHTS STARTED LIGHTING UP -EMMISION, EPS, BRAKE HOLD, ETC THE CAR IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO" LIMP MODE" WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 ON THE HIGHWAY. I AM TOLD THIS CAUSED A TURBO PROBLEM AND THE TURBO WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. WHILE RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON AND REOCCURRING PROBLEM THAT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED. SINCE IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM IT SEEMS WITH OUT HONDA ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM THIS WILL OCCUR AGAIN WITH A NEW TURBO. I AM UNSURE IF THE MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS FOR PROBLEMS THAT DID NOT EXIST CAUSED THE TURBO PROBLEMS BUT IT SEEMS LIKELY. SINCE WHEN THESE LIGHTS COME ON THE CAR IS DESIGNED TO GO INTO LIMP MODE. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. LUCKILY I AM AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER AND WAS ABLE TO HANDLE THE AUTOMATIC DRASTIC DECLINE WITH OUT BREAKING WHILE DRIVING AND COMING TO AN ALMOST COMPLETE STOP. HAD THE HIGHWAY BEEN BUSY THIS CERTAINLY WOULD OF RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON DRIVEWAY, WHEN TURNED ON IT HAD BATTERY AND ELECTRIC ISSUES (BATTERY JUST REPLACED BY PROFESSIONAL) AC BLOWS OUT HOT AIR (AC FLUID JUST REFILLED AS WELL BY PROFESSIONAL) AND BACK DOOR WON'T OPEN FROM INSIDE. CAR WAS PURCHASED LESS THAN TWO YEARS AGO AND ALREADY MALFUNCTIONING.
The steering wheel is sticky and jerky when turning. It has not been smooth for years and I often have to force it to turn a little at high speeds. It’s been like this for years. I am reporting this because it seems to be a major issue online for a lot of civic owners.
WAS DRIVING THE CAR TO AN INTERVIEW & I WAS PROBABLY A BLOCK FROM HOME. I WAS AT A STOP & WHEN I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE & TURN LEFT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED MID DRIVE & CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO A CURB.
When driving freeway speeds, steering is very loose and difficult to control. When driving more than 30 minutes or more, the steering locks up and have to give it a jerk to gain control of steering. Mileage on 2016 Honda Civic is 58272 as of inspection by Honda on 1/17/24. Honda verified issue is Steering Rack which thousands of 2016 Honda Civic owners are reporting same issue. Original issue began in 2019 and reported to Honda at that time. Please review complaint. Thank you.
Around 40,000 miles, we first noticed a sort of bump or detent when trying to steer straight ahead at highway speeds. The car will drift to the right or left. When the driver attempts to steer back into the lane, resistance is felt at Top-Dead-Center, the demarc between left and right. To overcome the resistance, extra force must be used and that causes an oversteer condition in the opposite direction. I reported this problem to the dealership at 46976 miles, which was within the extended warranty coverage. They failed to report it to the warranty company or American Honda. I reported the issue again at mileage 59277, after it became much worse and much more dangerous. So far, my dealership has refused to cover the problem under manufacturer's warranty or extended warranty. Over the past year, I've driven this car less than 1000 miles because I am afraid it will get me killed.
THE REAR FACING CAMERA FAILS TO DISPLAY ON THE SCREEN WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS IN REVERSE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 5-6 TIMES SINCE 01/01/2019. THIS HAS ONLY BEEN OBSERVED AFTER INITIAL STARTUP.
ENGINE STALLED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT SCANNED THE VEHICLE THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REFLASHED HONDA STATED NO RECALL BUT MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ONLINE ALSO ON HONDA MECHANIC WEBSITE STATES COMPUTER ISSUE
AC STOPED WORKING IN 90 DEGREE WEATHER THIS IS A SAFELY ISSUE ESPECIALLY WITH YOUNG CHILDREN OR THE ELDERLY
I PURCHASED THIS YEAR AFTER MY 3 YEAR LEASE WAS UP. WITHIN MONTHS, THE AC STARTED BLOWING HOT AIR. I FOUND OUT (ONLY BY LOOKING ONLINE) THAT THERE WAS A REPORTED ISSUE WITH THE AC CONDENSOR. I CALLED HONDA OF AMERICA, THEY CONFIRMED THAT IF IT WAS FOUND TO HAVE AN ISSUE NOT DUE TO DAMAGE, THEY WOULD PAY FOR THE ASSESSMENT ($150) AND THE REPLACEMENT. I TOOK IT IN, THE HONDA DEALER SAID YES, THE CONDENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND WOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY, BUT ALSO THE COMPRESSOR AND FRONT SEAL, FOR A TOTAL OF NEAR $2000. I CALLED HONDA OF AMERICA BACK, THEY CALLED THE DEALER TO CONFIRM AND SIMPLY INFORMED ME THAT YES, I'D HAVE TO PAY. THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY SEEMS LESS LIKE A WAY OF ACKNOWLEDGING AN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE, AND MORE AS A PLOY TO GET RECENT BUYERS OFF LEASE TO PAY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO HONDA DEALERS. I'VE SEEN MULTITUDES OF PEOPLE REPORT ONLINE WITH THIS SAME ISSUE, THERE SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A RECALL OR AT LEAST THE EXTENDED WARRANTY SHOULD COVER THE ENTIRE AC SYSTEM.
AFTER DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES, STEERING BECOMES ERRATIC. WHEEL TAKES FORCE TO TURN INITIALLY, CAUSING OVER-CORRECTION WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE STRAIGHT. THIS PROBLEM IS CONSISTENTLY REPRODUCIBLE. CAR IS WITH DEALER NOW TO FIX.
IN THE SUMMER OF 2018, WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM ON, IT WAS BLOWING WARM AIR ON THE DRIVER SIDE WHILE THE PASSENGER SIDE DISCHARGING COLD AIR. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED US THERE WAS A LEAK. A DYE WAS ADDED TO THE RECHARGED REFRIGERANT. EARLY THIS MONTH, APRIL, THE AC WASN'T PROVIDED ANY COOLING. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE AC COMPRESSOR ALONG WITH REFRIGERANT PIPING WAS LEAKING AND NEED TO BE REPLACED.
WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY TODAY AROUND 60 MPH IT FELT LIKE THE STEERING WAS STICKING ON ME. WHEN I WOULD TRY TO CORRECT MY STEERING LEFT OR RIGHT IT WOULD FEEL STUCK FOR A SECOND THEN IT WOULD GO. SEEMS VERY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS.
THE A/C COMPRESSOR FAILED, SHOOTING OUT ICE PARTICLES INTO MY FACE. HONDA ACKNOWLEDGES THE CONDENSER WAS FAULTY FROM THE FACTORY AND REPLACED THAT COMPONENT, BUT REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE FAULTY CONDENSER PROBABLY SHORTENED/CAUSE ISSUES WITH THE LIFE OF THE COMPRESSOR CAUSING IT TO FAIL. IS COST PROHIBITIVE TO REPAIR AND LACK OF AIR CONDITIONING CAUSES HEALTH AND VISIBILITY ISSUES WITH THE FRONT WINDSHIELD IN THE WINTER.
THE STEERING STARTED 'STICKING' IN PLACE AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS. WHEN DRIVING IT FEELS LIKE THERE'S A CATCH IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN YOU TRY TO MAINTAIN A LANE AND YOU HAVE TO TURN THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT AND THEN LEFT TO STAY IN A LANE. YOU HAVE TO FORCEFULLY OVERCOME THIS STICKING RESISTANCE WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO VEER TOWARD THE OTHER LANE AND THIS PROCESS IS CONTINUALLY REPEATED AS YOU DRIVE. IT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO WANT TO PUSH ME INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON 2 LANE ROADS. SURPRISED THERE IS NO RECALL BECAUSE I SEE MANY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ON NHTSB AND IN ONLINE HONDA FORUMS, THE COMMON RESOLUTION SEEMS TO BE REPLACEMENT OF FACTORY DEFECTIVE EPS HARDWARE.
WHEN I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY LAST NIGHT AFTER WORK, MY CAR DASH LIT UP WITH ALERTS, ONE AFTER ANOTHER. I TRIED TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON, AND THE LIGHTS DID NOT GO AWAY. THEY ARE STILL ON TODAY. THEY WERE EMISSIONS SYSTEM PROBLEM, BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM, BRAKE HOLD SYSTEM PROBLEM, POWER STEERING SYSTEM (EPS) PROBLEM, VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST (VSA) PROBLEM, AND HILL START ASSIST PROBLEM. I TOOK A VIDEO OF THE ALERTS. I WILL TRY TO UPLOAD A PICTURE.
TRUNK OPENS BY ITSELF, SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, LOCAL STREET, OTHERS WHEN PARKED.
A/C WENT OUT AT 24,000 MILES- THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD, ESPECIALLY WITH ALL BLACK INTERIOR. TOOK VEHICLE IN TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD SOMETHING PUNCTURED THE A/C COMPRESSOR, VERY LIKELY A SMALL ROCK BOUNCED UP AND HIT IT. CALLED HONDA AND WAS TOLD BECAUSE THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS AN OUTSIDE OBJECT THAT CAUSED IT, THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT. VEHICLE HASN'T BEEN DRIVEN ANYWHERE OTHER THAN ESTABLISHED ROADS. HONDA REP WAS EXTREMELY RUDE AND ARGUMENTATIVE. ASKED FOR A SUPERVISOR AND WAS TOLD "I AM THE SUPERVISOR, THERE'S NO ONE ELSE YOU CAN SPEAK TO." RESEARCHED VERBATIM WHAT WAS TOLD TO ME BY THE MECHANIC AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. CLEARLY A FAULTY DESIGN/DESIGN FLAW ON HONDA'S PART. COULD BE OVER A GRAND TO FIX. THERE ARE ALSO NUMEROUS VEHICLES BEING TRADED IN TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE SAME ISSUE, SOME AT 12,000 MILES.
THE A/C STOPPED WORKING SHORTLY AFTER 3 YEARS BUT LUCKILY IT WAS STILL COVERED UNDER MY CERTIFIED HONDA WARRANTY. TOOK THE CAR TO THE HONDA DEALER AND THE TECHNICIAN SAID A/C PROBLEMS ARE A COMMON PROBLEM THEY SEE. CHECK FOR LEAKS AND RECHARGED THE SYSTEM. IT'S BEEN 3 MONTHS NOW AND THE A/C IS STARTING TO BECOME INEFFECTIVE AGAIN.
CAR A/C JUST BLOWING WARM/HOT AIR, NEVER GETS COLD AND ITS BEEN 100F WITH A HEAT INDEX OF 115F. CAR IS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. HONDA IS REFUSING TO ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND WILL NOT RECALL DESPITE ALL THE COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND IN FORUMS.
AFTER DRIVING FOR 30+ MINUTES, I NOTICE MY STEERING WHEEL STICKING IN PLACE, WHEN I NEED TO SLIGHTLY MOVE OR TURN THE WHEEL I HAVE TO APPLY FORCE AND IT ALMOST CAUSES ME TO OVER CORRECT AND VEER INTO ANOTHER LANE. IF GETS WORSE TO LONGER I DRIVE AND WITH THE WEIGHT OF PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE. I HAVE READ THE SAME ISSUE FROM OTHERS AND THEY HAVE SAID THIS IS POSSIBLY A POWER STEERING ISSUE.
MOTOR OIL IN THE ENGINE IS BEING DILUTED BY GASOLINE. A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL IS PRESENT WHEN EXAMINING THE DIP STICK.
STEERING IS STICKY AND HARD TO MAINTAIN LANE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED AND THE CONTACT HAD TO USE FORCE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S HOME. THE CONTACT SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH PENSACOLA HONDA (6675 PENSACOLA BLVD, PENSACOLA, FL 32505). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,510.
I HAVE A 2016 HONDA CIVIC AND ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO, WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED MOSTLY ON THE INTERSTATE, THAT MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD GET "STICKY". I HAD TAKEN MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND I ADDRESSED MY CONCERN TO THE MECHANIC. WHEN I CAME BACK HE TOLD ME HIM AND ALL OF HIS TECHNICIANS DROVE THE CAR AND NO ONE HAD A CLUE AS TO WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. OVER TIME IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE. IT HAPPENS AFTER DRIVING AT INTERSTATE SPEED FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. ONLY WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS POSITIONED 100% STRAIGHT. WHEN YOU PULL TO ONE SIDE, AND IT NEVER MATTERS LEFT OR RIGHT BECAUSE IT'S BOTH SIDES, IT'S LIKE ITS STUCK OR PULLING AGAINST YOU, LIKE A RESISTANCE. THEN IT SUDDENLY LET'S GO AND IT JERKS. AND THEN IT'S BACK THE OTHER WAY. SO YOU'RE FIGHTING THE STEERING WHEEL THE WHOLE TIME DRIVING WHILE YOU'RE JERKING BACK AND FORTH SIDE TO SIDE ALL OVER THE LANE. AND IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE JUST INTERSTATE. DUE TO BEING A SINGLE MOM AND NOT HAVING THE "TIME OFF WORK" AS WELL AS NO ONE BELIEVING ME, HERE I AM ABOUT 4 MONTHS LATER AND IT'S SO MUCH WORSE. IT'S ALSO SUMMER NOW WHICH I NOTICE IT'S ALSO AT ITS WORST WHEN ITS BLAZING TEMPERATURES. IT'S GOTTEN SO BAD THAT I CAN ACTUALLY HEAR A NOISE NOW WHEN IT DOES IT. I'VE LOOKED THIS UP BECAUSE I FELT LIKE PEOPLE THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY AND WITH THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE REPORTING THIS SAFETY ISSUE, I CAN'T FIGURE HOW THIS HASN'T BEEN A RECALL. I UNDERSTAND THINGS ON VEHICLES NEED TO BE REPLACED AFTER A WHILE. THEY NEED MAINTENANCE AND THEY COST MONEY. BUT FOR THIS WIDESPREAD ISSUE ON THE SAME CAR AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE?! I BOUGHT A HONDA FOR THE NAME, FOR THE QUALITY, AND FOR THE CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT AT THIS POINT, THAT IT'S BEING LOOKED OVER, I'M ON THE VERGE OF TRADING IT IN FOR SOMETHING OTHER THAN A HONDA.
LUG NUTS ARE SELF LOOSENING. I DO UNDERSTAND THAT LUG NUTS SHOULD BE CHECKED PERIODICALLY. HOWEVER, WITH 12,000 MILES I HAVE HAD TWO TIGHTEN NUTS ON THREE OCCASIONS. IN PARTICULAR THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. I FIRST NOTICED A CLICKING SOUND WHEN MAKING A TURN, THAT CLICKING WOULD GO AWAY AFTER A MILE OR SO THEN AFTER A WEEK OR TWO TURNED INTO BRAKE GRINDING. WENT TO CHECK THE BRAKES AND DISCOVERED THE TIRE WAS LOOSE AND IT WAS THE WHEEL ROCKING BACK AND FORTH MAKING THE CLICKING SOUND. THE CALIPER NOT BEING ALIGNED WITH THE ROTOR WOULD GRIND UNTIL THE CAR WAS DRIVEN A FEW BLOCKS AND THE GRINDING WOULD CEASE. I NOW RECOGNIZE THE SYMPTOMS AND CORRECT IT IMMEDIATELY. I SUSPECT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE AND A DEFINITE SAFETY HAZARD.
POWER WINDOW ON DRIVER'S SIDE WHEN TRYING TO AUTO CLOSE (WIND UP FEATURE) IT GOES HALF WAY AND THEN AUTO OPENS (GOES BACK DOWN). NOTICED MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN STATIONARY (BOTH IN PARK, NEUTRAL, AND DRIVE WITH FOOT ON BRAKE).
CAR WILL NOT START. ALL SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS FLASH: EECTRIC PARKING BRAKE PARKING, VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST PROBLEM, ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM, BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM, POWER STEERING. WILL START WITH A JUMP START. THIS IS NOT A EVERYDAY OCCURRENCE. TOOK IT INTO HONDA, THEY SAID IT WAS THE BATTER. HERE WE ARE 2 DAYS LATER AND THE CAR IS DOING THE SAME THING. WE HAVE BEEN STRANDED NUMEROUS TIME AND THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR OVER A YEAR.
WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON 1/26/2019 AT ABOUT 11:30 AM WHEN I HEARD A VERY LOUD POP. I THOUGHT MAYBE I HAD BLOWN A TIRE AND TURNED DOWN MY MUSIC. I HEARD A LOT OF WIND AND AFTER VERIFYING THAT ALL OF MY WINDOWS WERE UP I OPENED THE VISOR TO MY SUNROOF TO DISCOVER THAT MY SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED. WHEN THIS OCCURRED, THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES SURROUNDING ME AND I WAS NOT DRIVING UNDER AN OVER PASS, THEREFORE I WAS NOT HIT BY ANY FLYING DEBRIS. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER IT APPEARED THAT MY SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED IN AN OUTWARD FASHION. AS IF SOMEONE HAD BUSTED IT OUT FROM THE INSIDE. THERE WAS ALSO NO GLASS THAT SHATTERED DOWN INTO MY SUNROOF VISOR WHICH FURTHER LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT I WAS NOT HIT BY DEBRIS. AFTER DOING SOME SEARCHING, IT WOULD SEEM THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON OCCURRENCE AND THERE HAVE BEEN HUNDREDS OF INSTANCES OF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODING SUNROOFS IN CARS MANUFACTURED IN THE LAST COUPLE YEARS. VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS. UNFORTUNATELY THIS HAPPENED ON A WEEKEND SO I WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL MONDAY TO SEE IF HONDA WILL REPAIR THE ISSUE FREE OF CHARGE (AS THEY SHOULD).
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OVER 65MPH, THE STEERING GETS "STICKY" THE DRIVER HAS TO APPLY EXTRA FORCE TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE DIVING STRAIGHT. THE MINOR STEERING CORRECTIONS THAT WE USE TO KEEP A CAR CENTERED IN A LANE NOW BECOME SOMETHING THAT REQUIRES TWO HANDS BECAUSE ONCE YOU "BREAK" THE STEERING WHEEL FREE, THE CAR OVER-CORRECTS AND YOU NEED BOTH HANDS TO KEEP THE CAR IN THE LANE YOU ARE DRIVING IN. THE FORCE REQUIRED ISN'T A LOT, BUT ENOUGH TO MAKE A LONG ROAD TRIP UNDOABLE.
I'M GLAD I FOUND THIS THREAD I HAVE A 2016 HONDA CIVIC EX-T. AFTER I'VE BEEN DRIVING 10 OR 15 MINUTES, MOSTLY ON A HIGHWAY, SUDDENLY THE CAR BEGINS TO VEER SLIGHTLY ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. WHEN I GO TO CORRECT, THE STEERING WHEEL RESISTS. IT "STICKS" UNTIL I APPLY A BIT MORE PRESSURE, AFTER WHICH IT SUDDENLY RELEASES, CORRECTS, AND ACTS NORMAL. MOMENTS LATER HOWEVER, IT VEERS THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, AND I AM FORCED TO REPEAT THE SAME PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN. END RESULT IS I BEGIN DRIFTING SLIGHTLY BACK AND FORTH DOWN THE HIGHWAY REPEATEDLY, WHILE FIGHTING WITH A STEERING WHEEL. I FEEL IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE GOING DOWN A 3-LANE INTERSTATE, AND I'M IN THE MIDDLE LANE WITH 2 SEMI TRUCKS ON EITHER SIDE OF ME, THE CAR STARTS VEERING, I GO TO CORRECT AND THE STEERING "STICKS", CAUSING ME TO OVER CORRECT, THERE'S PROBABLY GOING TO BE AN ACCIDENT. I'VE BEEN READING A HONDA CIVIC FORUM, THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND COMPANY KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY REPLACE THE POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY (PART NUMBER: 53650-TBC-A21 OR 53650-TBA-A22).
WHEN DRIVING MY CAR AT 60 OR 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES THE STEERING WHEEL STAYS STUCK AND MAKES DRIVING DIFFICULT CAUSING STRONG PULLS TO THE SIDES AND CAUSES INSECURITY AND DIFFICULTY WHEN DRIVING LONG DISTANCES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER IN JUNE OF 2018 EXPLAINING THE SITUATION AND A HONDA TECHNICIAN MADE THE TEST WITH ME NEXT AND IT HAPPENED THE SAME. HE REPORTED IT AND THEY ONLY MADE ONE BATTERY CHANGE. TODAY JANUARY 13 OF 2019 THE PROBLEM CONTINUES AND IS GETTING WORSE. THE CAR HAS 26,114 MILES TODAY.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Power steering / steering wheel responsiveness steering wheel "stuck" in position. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? On curved roads or roads at highway speeds, small steering corrections are not always possible. Excessive force must be used to "snap" the steering wheel out of being stuck, which can cause the vehicle to swerve slightly. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, they do not spend enough time with the vehicle or do the proper preparation to recreate the issue. Or they charge high fees just to try to determine the issue. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, not to my knowledge. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, none. Other notes: This has happened since the vehicle was under warranty, circa 2018/2019. It happens most often on very hot days, or when the car has been driven for a while, and mostly happens at speeds around 70 mph, though can happen as low as 40 mph. *When researching it does appear that the 2016 Honda Civic EX 2.0L sedan shares a part number with other Honda vehicles that were part of a recall regarding steering issues.*
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A HONDA DEALERSHIP VANCOUVER, WA IN 2016. RECENTLY, THE CAR ALARM WOULD GO OFF RANDOMLY THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE BATTERY WAS CHECKED AND REPLACED. THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE. I WENT IN AGAIN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK OF ELECTRONIC SYSTEM AND FOUND SECURITY CODES RELATING TO HOOD SWITCH IN THE SECURITY HISTORY. THEY SUGGESTED TO REPLACE THE HOOD LATCH/SWITCH ASSEMBLY AND RECHECK. ANOTHER PERSON I SPOKE WITH, THAT HAD THE SAME ISSUE, CLAIMED THAT REPLACING THE HOOD LATCH ASSEMBLY WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. I ASKED ABOUT MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY SINCE THIS ITEM ISN'T COVERED BY DEALERSHIP WARRANTY OF 3 YRS/36K MILES. THE DEFECT IS FROM A PART THAT IS CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE AND FALLS UNDER MANUFACTURING ERROR AND NOT A WEARABLE PART THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH WARRANTY OR SOMETHING THAT FATIGUES OVER TIME. I WROTE HONDA REGARDING THIS. IN THE MEANTIME, I CANNOT USE MY SECURITY SYSTEM, THAT I PAID FOR ON THE VEHICLE, DUE TO IT POSSIBLY DRAINING MY NEW BATTERY. HONDA (REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER) STATED, OVER THE PHONE, THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF REPLACEMENT AND THAT IT FALLS UNDER THEIR WARRANTY OF PARTS. THIS ISSUE IS HAZARDOUS BECAUSE THE SENSOR FOR THE CAR ALARM TRIPS ITSELF ELECTRONICALLY WHEN THE HOOD IS SHUT. THIS COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE A FIRE AND/OR GREATER DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE OR OTHERS. ADDITIONALLY, I DRIVE FOR RIDESHARE AND THIS PUTS RISK TO MY CLIENTS AS WELL. THE ALARM SOUNDS ONLY WHEN THE CAR IS LOCKED AND ALARM SET WHILE PARKED. IT OCCURS EVERY FEW HOURS AFTER ALARM IS SET. AFTER INSPECTING THE HOOD MYSELF, I COULD SEE NO DAMAGE TO THE HOOD LATCH AND WOULD NOT NEED A REPLACEMENT HOOD LATCH ASSEMBLY. THIS ISSUE IS ONE OF ELECTRONIC NATURE, INVOLVING THE CAR ALARM SENSOR ON HOOD LATCH, SECURITY SYSTEM, AND THE ELECTRONIC CAR MAINTENANCE MONITORING SYSTEM.
WHEN IM DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AROUND 60 TO 75 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS. I NEED TO JERK IT BACK TO POSITION. IT HAPPENS AFTER DRIVING FOR MORE THAN 30 MINS. ALREADY BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES IN IN THE PAST 2 YEARS BUT THEY CANT SEEM TO "REPLICATE" THE PROBLEM. I HAVE NOTICED THAT IT IS GETTING WORSE. CAR HAS 34000 MILES ON IT.

THE DEALER (HOLLER HONDA, 2211 N SEMORAN BLVD, ORLANDO, FL 32807, (877) 872-9906) WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL IS CATCHING WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO KEEP THE CAR IN THE LANE. WHEN IT RELEASES, YOU HAVE TO CORRECT THE STEERING QUICKLY IN ORDER TO STAY IN THE LANE. THIS A CONSTANT PROBLEM. THERE ARE NO TIMES WHEN THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY RISK ESPECIALLY WHEN ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY AND THERE IS AN ONCOMING CAR IN THE OTHER LANE.
