2003 CRV - AIR CONDITIONER STARTED MAKING CLANGING NOISE, THEN SMOKE CAME FROM UNDER HOOD. TURNED OFF AIR, TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THEY REFERRED TO THE PROBLEM AS THE BLACK DEATH"BECAUSE METAL SHARDS WENT EVERYWHERE AND RUINED THE WHOLE AIR CONDITIONING ASSEMBLY. VEHICLE WAS 200 MILES AWAY FROM THE END OF THE HONDA EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 100,000 MILES. WARRANTY COVERED COMPLETELY NEW AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. IF NOT FOR THE WARRANTY, DEALER SAID , THAT THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY ALONE AT THEIR COST WOULD BE $3800, NOT INCLUDING LABOR.*AK
I REPORTED A DRIVER'S DOOR RATTLE VERY EARLY ON (DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD), BUT NO SOURCE WAS FOUND. ON 5/09/07 (37,792 MILES) THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK BECAME INOPERABLE, AND I COULD NOT LOCK/UNLOCK THE DOOR WITH THE REMOTE CONTROL; I COULD NOT ENTER OR LEAVE THE CAR BY USING THE REMOTE. AN "ACTUATOR" WAS REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE ($161.61). ON 07/30/09 (48,565 MILES) THE SAME DRIVER'S WINDOW CAME OFF ITS TRACK, AND THE TRACK HAD TO BE REINSTALLED AT MY EXPENSE ($90.00) NOW I READ THAT A DIFFERENT HONDA MODEL HAS BEEN RECALLED WITH WHAT SEEMS TO BE MY SAME PROBLEM. ALL SERVICES HAVE BEEN PERFORMED BY THE SAME AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER. PERHAPS THERE IS CONNECTION BETWEEN THE PROBLEMS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY THE HOOD FLEW UP AND HIT THE WINDSHIELD. I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE SO I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER. I HAD TO GET OUT OF THE CAR, PRY THE HOOD DOWN, AND ATTEMPT TO SECURE IT TO DRIVE TO A BODY SHOP. LUCKILY , THE WINDSHIELD WAS NOT DAMAGED, BUT THE HOOD WAS DESTROYED, AND THE ROOF JUST ABOVE THE WINDSHIELD ,WAS SEVERELY DENTED. THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE WAS AROUND $1700. THE LATCH WAS DAMAGED, AND APPARENTLY THERE WAS NO WAY TO DETERMINE IF THE LATCH WAS DAMAGED PRIOR OR AFTER THE INCIDENT. EARLIER THAT DAY THE HOOD HAD BEEN OPENED AND CLOSED, BUT I HAD DOUBLE CHECKED THAT IT WAS PROPERLY CLOSED. IT WAS NEARLY UNBELIEVABLE THAT I AVOIDED A CRASH. *AK
AIR CONDITIONER WENT OUT AT 36,000 MILES NO WARNING. COST $1500. MY EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERED PART BUT NOT ALL. SHREDDED METAL ALL THROUGH OUT THE AIR CONDITIONER. HAD TO WAIT 7 HOURS FOR A REPAIR AS DEALER 50 MILES AWAY HONDA CRV 2003. *TR
VEHICLE: 2003 HONDA CRV WITH 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSIMISSION. ON JANUARY 23, 2007 DURING NORMAL DRIVING THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION ON THE VEHICLE FAILED. THE SYMPTOM OF THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE VEHICLE POPPED OUT OF THE GEAR THAT IT WAS ENGAGED IN WITHOUT ANY WARNING . THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO A COMPLETE STOP, AND THE OPERATOR WAS ABLE GET THE CAR INTO 2 GEAR ONLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE IT REMAINED FOR TWO MONTHS WHILE THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. THE FOLLOWINGWAS A LIST OF PARTS THAT WERE REPLACED WHICH DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM: MANUAL CLUTCH, MANUAL TRANSMISSION, PRESSURE PLATE AND CLUTCH CABLES. *AK TH OWNER WAS INFORMED THAT THE PROBLEM HAD TO DO WITH THE THRUST BEARINGS AND THRUST WASHERS BEING WORN AND IT WOULD REQUIRE THE SHORT BLOCK TO BE REPLACED. ALL WORK WAS COMPLETED AT A HONDA DEALER. HONDA HAD TO ENGAGE A HONDA CERTIFIED TECH TO REVIEW THE VECHICLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM.
STEERING WHEEL LOCKING MECHANISM IS DEFECTIVE AND DROPS UNEXPECTEDTLY IN MY 03" HONDA CRV. REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO HONDA CORP AND I AM AWAITING TO SEE IF IT WILL BE COVERED BY THEM. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER BACK I WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME HE HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM. I FEEL THIS SAFETY CONCERN IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED BY HONDA CORP PROMPTLY AND I AM NOT ALLOWING MY WIFE AND SMALL CHILD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE REPAIR WILL COST A THOUSAND DOLLARS TO FIX, MY EXPENSE I WAS TOLD. WHEN THIS PROBLEM WITH THE TILT WHEEL LOCKING SYSTEM FAILS - THIS IS A ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN - ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEEDS IN A SUV.
HEAD GASKET OIL LEAK. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE GETTING INTO THE VEHICLE AFTER BEEN PARKED FOR A PROLONGED PERIOD OF TIME, A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL WAS NOTICED. UPON VISUAL INSPECTION, A HOLE WAS NOTICED NEAR THE BACK SEAT, WHICH WAS LOCATED ABOVE THE GAS TANK AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO TESTED THE VEHICLE TO FIND THE FAILURE CODE READING "AUXILIARY EMISSION CONTROL EVAPORATION, GAS LEAK". THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE GAS TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT INQUIRED ABOUT THE PHYSICAL LEAK TO BE SHOWN WHICH NEVER HAPPENED. THE CONTACT SHOWED THE DEALERSHIP THE POSSIBILITY OF THE LEAK COMING FROM THE OUTLET HOSE FROM THE TANK TO THE FUEL PUMP, WHICH COULD EASILY BE REMOVED WITH THE FINGER TIPS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, WHO DETERMINED IT WAS AN ISOLATE FAILURE, AND WAS NOT COVERED BY ANY RECALL. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN BECAUSE THE FAILURE SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS MANUFACTURER DEFECT.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE SRS LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE SYSTEM WAS DEFECTIVE AND RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT.
THE A/C COMPRESSOR FAILED AFTER ONLY 3 YEARS OF BUYING IT BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THE SAME EQUIPMENT FAILURE FROM OTHER BUYERS.
I HAVE NOW TAKEN MY 2003 CRV IN FOR THE THIRD TIME BECAUSE OF VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE FIRST TIME THEY MACHINED THE ROTORS AND THE SECOND TIME THEY REPLACED THEM. NOW, AFTER ABOUT 15,000 MILES, THEY ARE TELLING ME THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. SOMETHING HAS GOT TO BE WRONG HERE. *NM
2003 HONDA CR-V AIR CONDITIONER FAILURE. GRINDING NOISE OVER THE COURSE OF A FEW MINUTES, THEN COMPLETE FAILURE. REPAIR SHOP SAID THERE WERE SMALL METAL PARTS THROUGHOUT THE SYSTEM. *NM
I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEM IN MY 2003 HONDA CR-V. WHEN I TOOK IT TO MY DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT THE A/C SYSTEM WAS NOT FUNCTIONING AND THAT METAL SHARDS FROM THE COMPRESSOR HAD TRAVELED THROUGHOUT THE A/C SYSTEM AND CONDEMNED MANY COMPONENTS. THE DEALERSHIP WAS AUTHORIZED REPLACEMENT OF THE A/C COMPONENTS TO BE PAID BY HONDA AND THE LABOR TO BE PAID BY ME. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE TOTAL BILL WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $2500 AND THAT MY PORTION WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $700. I SPOKE WITH A CSR AND EXPRESSED MY DISSATISFACTION WITH HONDA''S DECISION. I TOLD THE CSR THAT I WANTED FULL REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE A/C PROBLEM BECAUSE THE CAR WAS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD, THIS WAS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE AND HONDA WAS AWARE THAT IT HAD A DEFECTIVE PART(S). THE CSR ENCOURAGED ME TO TAKE HONDA''S DEAL STATING THAT THIS IS THE BEST OFFER THAT I WOULD BE GIVEN AND THAT IF I CONTINUED TO ''PUSH'' MY COMPLAINT THAT HONDA COULD WITHDRAWAL THE OFFER. I EXPLAINED TO HER THAT I WOULD ACCEPT THE OFFER (DESPITE BEING DISSATISFIED) AND THAT ONCE THE CAR WAS FIXED AND THE PARTS PAID FOR BY HONDA, I WOULD EXPRESS MY DISSATISFACTION AGAIN. I TOLD HER THAT I FELT LIKE I COULDN'T REALLY MAKE A VALID COMPLAINT GIVEN THE FACT THAT THE REIMBURSEMENT COULD BE WITHDRAWN. BASICALLY, I FELT THAT HONDA WAS SAYING ''TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT'' THE PARTICULARS DON''T MATTER. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM STILL DISSATISFIED WITH HONDA''S POSITION AND I AM ASKING FOR FULL REIMBURSEMENT OF ALL THE WORK DONE IN CONNECTION WITH THE A/C SYSTEM. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS IS NOT A RECALL ITEM. I''M ALSO CONCERNED THAT THERE MAY BE SAFETY RISKS GIVEN THE FACT THAT ''METAL SHARDS TRAVELED THROUGHOUT THE SYSTEM AND CONDEMNED MANY COMPONENTS". I DO KNOW THAT A 2 YEAR OLD CAR THAT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED SHOULD NOT HAVE SUCH A MAJOR PROBLEM. *NM
DURING OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE A LOUD THUMP WAS HEARD THEN THE AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED OPERATING. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD THINKING THERE WAS A FLAT TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A HONDA DEALER IN TAMPA FOR INSPECTION WHERE IT HAD BEEN SERVICED. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE SEALED A/C COMPRESSOR FAILED AND INGESTED AN INTERNAL COMPONET THEN DISTRIBUTED SMALL PARTS THOUGH THE SEALED PRESSURIZED SYSTEM THEREBY CAUSING OTHER A/C SYSTEM COMPONETS TO FAIL. THIS MAJOR FAILURE REQUIRES A COMPLETE A/C SYSTEM REPLACEMENT. THE SERVICE MANAGER IS AWARE OF THIS FAILURE AND STATED THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF IT AS WELL. HE ESTIMATES THIS OCCURS TO 1 IN 25 VEHICLES. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST IS $2600.00 TO $2800.00. THE VEHICLE IS A 2003 HONDA CR-V WITH 50,000 MILES. THERE HAS BEEN ONE OTHER DOCUMENTED COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS SYSTEM ON THIS MODEL. HONDA IS REVIEWING AT THIS TIME WHETHER THEY WILL COVER THE COST OF REPAIR AS THIS IS AN UNUSUAL FAILURE. I AM AWARE THAT THIS PART WAS REDESIGNED IN 2004. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS BECAUSE WITH NO A/C SYSTEM THERE IS NO DEFROSTER CAPABILITIES THEREBY CREATING VISIBILITY AND SAFETY CONCERNS. *JB
A/C ON 2003 HONDA CR-V FAILED (44,000 MILES ON VEHICLE) RESULTING IN INABILITY TO ADEQUATELY DEFOG THE WINDSHIELD AND SIDE WINDOWS DURING THUNDERSTORM. THERE WAS NO VEHICULAR ACCIDENT. HONDA REPAIRED DEFECT UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY ($1900 VALUE). DEFECTIVE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. IT APPEARS FROM DISCUSSION THREADS ON EDMUNDS.COM THAT THIS IS A RECURRING ACCESSORY FAILURE ON 2002-2004 CRVS THAT HAS SAFETY CONNOTATIONS. HONDA AMERICA IS REPAIRING AT NO COST TO AUTO OWNERS EVEN IF OUT OF WARRANTY BUT YOU HAVE TO COMPLAIN TO THEIR HEADQUARTERS. FURTHERMORE, IT APPEARS THAT THE REPAIRS ARE BREAKING DOWN IN INSTANCES BEFORE EXCEEDING ANY WHERE NEAR REASONABLE REPLACEMENT PART SERVICE LIFE. THIS SUGGESTS A DESIGN FLAW. HOW MANY CRVS ARE OUT THERE WITH IMPAIRED WINDSHIELD DEFOGGING CAPABILITIES? *JB
MY 2003 HONDA CRV EX SUSTAINED OVER $2700 IN DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF THE FOLLOWING: AFTER PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND TURNING OFF THE CAR,I REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION,AND EXITED ,THINKING THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN PARK. I AM A PROUD OWNER OF A 2003 HONDA CR-V. MAYBE BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T SEE IT AS A SAFETY ISSUE. I CAN DRIVE WITHOUT A/C AND LIVE, BUT WHEN YOU NEED TO TRANSPORT A BABY OR 80 YR OLD GRANDMOTHER IN 100 DEGREE WEATHER EVEN HOTTER IN THE CAR WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN. MAYBE IT'S THE FACT THAT THEY CAN PUT A CRAPPY COMPRESSOR IN THE CAR AND HAVE PEOPLE COME BACK AND PAY ANYWHERE UP TO $2000.00 IF THERE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THEN THEY TELL YOU, YOU SHOULD OF BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OR THAT YOU SHOULD TRADE THE CAR IN AND GET A NEW ONE. YOU USE THE A/C JUST SAY 1/2 YEAR. IF THIS WAS THE ABS, SRS OR SEAT BELTS, THERE WOULD BE A RECALL TO FIX IT .BUT FOR A BAD PART OF THE A/C NOTHING IS DONE, A/C NOT A SAFETY PROBLEM. AIR-CONDITION IN MY CAR STOPPED BLOWING COLD AIR. IT STARTED IN THE SUMMER OF 2006. HONDA DEALER COULDN'T FIND WHAT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM IS. THEY COULDN'T EVEN FIND ANY LEAKS TO THE SYSTEM. TO REMEDY, I'VE BEEN HAVING THE FREON CHARGED EVERY SUMMER. THAT WOULD USUALLY LAST UNTIL THE COLD SEASON STARTS WHEN I DON'T HAVE TO USE THE A/C AGAIN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND STARTING HEARING MY ENGINE MAKE STRANGE GRINDING-LIKE NOISES. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A TIRE, BUT IT WOULD COME AND GO SO I KNEW THAT WASN'T IT. I STOPPED A FEW MILES LATER AND WHEN I PULLED IN THE PARKING SPACE AND STOPPED, THE ENGINE MADE AN INCREDIBLY LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND DIED. I TRIED TO RESTART IT AND IT MADE THE SAME LOUD NOISE AND DIED AGAIN. WHEN I TURNED OFF THE A/C, IT STARTED OKAY, BUT THEN TURNING ON THE A/C KILLED IT AGAIN. APPARENTLY, THE A/C COMPRESSOR FAILED, AND CONTAMINATED THE COMPLETE A/C SYSTEM. THE COMPLETE A/C SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS LUCKY IN THAT THE HONDA SERVICE MANAGER AT MY DEALERSHIP APPARENTLY REALIZES THAT THERE IS SOMETHING TERRIBLY WRONG WITH THE 2003 CR-V; HE HAD HAD FOUR OTHER 2003 CR-V''S COME IN FOR REPAIR FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM OVER THE COURSE OF ONLY A FEW MONTHS. HE WAS ABLE TO GET HIS DEALERSHIP TO COVER THE COST OF THE PARTS. MY 2003 CR-V WAS BOUGHT FROM A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP THAN THE ONE WHERE WE HAD THE REPAIRS DONE, SO THERE WAS BASICALLY NOTHING HE COULD DO TO HAVE THEM COVER THE LABOR. WE ENDED UP PAYING $1074.76. I FEEL THAT HONDA SHOULD HAVE COVERED THIS COMPLETELY, AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THE SAME THING. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE CONTACTED HONDA DIRECTLY AS HE SUGGESTED, BUT WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY TYPE OF RESPONSE. THIS IS OUR SECOND MAJOR ENGINE PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. THE FIRST ONE WAS WITH THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM (ALSO COST OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS). BOTH OF THESE PROBLEMS OCCURRED IN OUR NEIGHBOR'S IDENTICAL VEHICLE.

WITHOUT ANY PRIOR PROBLEM OR INDICATION OF A PROBLEM, SOMETHING DROPPED OFF THE BOTTOM OF MY CAR INTO THE ROAD. AT THAT EXACT MOMENT, THE AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED BLOWING COLD AIR. I TOOK THE CAR TO HAVE IT REPAIRED ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE A/C COMPRESSOR HAD BLOWN (AND THE CLUTCH HAD FALLEN OFF). I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A VERY FREQUENT OCCURRENCE WITH SECOND GENERATION HONDA CR-V'S. THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT ON MY 2003 HONDA CRV CAME ON TWICE. FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED DECEMBER 2005, AND SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED ON MARCH 21, 2006. ON THE FIRST INCIDENT, THE MALFUNCTION LIGHT WENT AWAY AFTER CHECKING THE FUEL CAP WASN'T CLOSED PROPERLY. SECOND INCIDENT, I TOOK THE CRV TO A HONDA TRAINED TECHNICIAN AND HAD IT DIAGNOSED. THE DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED ON 3/22/2006. THE SENSOR INSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLE IS MALFUNCTIONING. CONTACTED THE DEALER (HONDA STEVENS CREEK, SAN JOSE) AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION. THEY NOTED THAT WARRANTLY FOR SUCH PARTS ARE ONLY COVERED FOR 3 YEARS OR 36,000 MILES WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. MY CRV WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW AND CURRENTLY HAVE 38,000 MILES, WHICH MEANS HONDA WILL NOT COVER FOR THE REPLACEMENT. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE'S STEERING FROZE UP WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH DURING WET ROAD CONDITIONS. THE PROBLEM USUALLY OCCURRED WHILE MAKING TURNS. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, BUT COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE CORPORATE OFFICE OF DEALER SUGGESTED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE THE BELT CHANGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND HAD THE BELT REPLACED.
DRIVING TO WORK ON INTERSTATE 89 I HAD MY HOOD FLY UP ON ME AND SMASH MY WINDSHIELD, AND TOTALLY BLOCK MY VISION OF THE ROAD. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO NOT HAVE SOMEONE NEAR ME, SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD....I THEN GOT OUT AND WAS ABLE TO SECURE THE HOOD SO I COULD TEMPORARILY DRIVE IT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND TO MY OFFICE WHERE I THEN PROCEEDED TO LOOK INTO WHAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS. ON THE DAY BEFORE I HAD ADDED WINDSHIELD FLUID, SHUT THE HOOD AND CHECK TO MAKE SURE IT WAS SECURE. IT APPEARED TO BE SO. I DROVE AROUND TOWN ALL DAY SUNDAY AND THEN MONDAY MORNING APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES BEFORE THE HOOD BLEW UP INTO MY WINDSHIELD. THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP INDICATED THAT HE HAD SEEN THIS BEFORE ON HONDA CRV'S AND THAT THE DESIGN FOR WHERE THE HOOD ROD IS PLACED IS RIGHT NEXT TO THE LATCH AND SOMETIMES GETS STUCK IN THE LATCH CAUSING IT TO NOT FULLY HITCH. DIAGNOSTICS REVEALED P0122 THROTTLE POSITION SWITCH LOW VOLT CAUSED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION NOT TO SHIFT CORRECTLY, AND WILL PREVENT ACCELERATION TO HIGHWAY SPEED. DEALER QUOTED $950.00 FOR A REPLACEMENT OF THROTTLE BODY WITH THE THROTTLE POSITION SWITCH. I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 HONDA CRV ON THE SECOND DAY OF OUR TRIP FROM OHIO TO FLORIDA. THERE WERE TWO ADULTS, AND TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE CAR. WE WERE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. I HAD MY FEET TUCKED NEAR MY SEAT AWAY FROM THE PEDALS. THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, NEARING THE CAR IN FRONT OF US. I PUT MY RIGHT FOOT DOWN ON THE BRAKE, AND IT WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR WITH NO BRAKING OR SLOWING DOWN. I THEN PUT MY LEFT FOOT ON THE CLUTCH TO MAKE SURE MY FEET WERE IN THE CORRECT PLACE, AND THE CLUTCH WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH MY LEFT FOOT. I TRIED MY RIGHT FOOT AGAIN ON THE BRAKE WITH NO RESISTANCE, AND NO SLOWING DOWN. I THEN TRIED TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL WITH THE HAND CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL, WITH NO RESULT. THANKFULLY, THERE WAS NOT A CAR TO OUR RIGHT, THERE WAS TO THE LEFT. THE CAR SWERVED VIOLENTLY, AND SHIFTED UPWARDS AS TO ROLL. I PULLED THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND SWERVED AGAIN. WE SWERVED SEVERAL TIMES, AND AT THAT POINT I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR BACK IN CONTROL AGAIN. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP IN FLORIDA, AND THEY TRIED TO RECREATE THE SITUATION. GOOD THING THEY COULDN'T. THEY, TOO, MAY HAVE NEARLY DIED. THEY SUGGESTED WE TAKE IT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP ONCE WE WERE HOME IN OHIO, WHICH WE DID. THEY SAID IT CHECKED OUT FINE. DT: THE CONTACT STATES SHE OWNS A 2003 CRV EX MODEL HONDA WHICH WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON 9-28--05. THE IMPACT WAS SO BAD THE WHOLE FONT END WAS DAMAGED BADLY. THEY HIT SOMEONE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, MY 2003 HONDA CRV STARTING MAKING A LOUD WHINING NOISE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THEN IT SOUNDED LIKE A METAL PART FELL OFF THE CAR. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND FOUND THAT EVERYTHING WAS RUNNING FINE EXCEPT THE AIR CONDITIONER. THERE WAS STILL FREON IN THE SYSTEM, BUT I LATER FOUND OUT THAT THE COMPRESSOR WAS RUINED. OUR CAR ONLY HAD 48,000 MILES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. A REBUILT COMPRESSOR FOR THIS CAR IS NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE BECAUSE THE OLD COMPRESSORS ARE NOT REBUILDABLE. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND I HEARD A NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING FELL OFF THE CAR. AFTER THE NOISE, THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS BLOWING OUT HOT AIR. I TURNED THE AIR CONDITIONER OFF AND WENT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER. SEAT BELT AROUND CHILD USING A CHILD SAFETY SEAT MALFUNCTIONED AND COULD NOT BE REMOVED. SEAT BELT CONTINUED TO TIGHTEN TO THE POINT OF SUFFOCATION FOR CHILD. IT WOULD NOT RETRACT. ALL EFFORTS TO RELEASE SEAT BELT CAUSED IT TO FURTHER TIGHTEN. DUE TO FEAR THAT CHILD WOULD BE ASPHYXIATED, SEAT BELT WAS CUT. IN EFFORT TO GET IT REPAIRED, I HAVE FOUND THAT SEAT BELTS ARE NOT KEPT IN STOCK AND WILL HAVE TO BE ORDERED.
THE AIR CONDITIONER UNIT HAS BROKEN OVER AND OVER. I'VE PAID THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS REPAIRING IT. I'M DISABLED AND GET VERY ILL IN THE HEAT. THERE WAS A RECALL BUT I WAS NOT TOLD OF IT UNTIL I HAD TOO MANY MILES ON MY CAR BECAUSE I USED TO USE MY CAR FOR WORK AS A SOCIAL WORKER. BUT IT STARTING BREAKING LONG BEFORE THE MILES WERE TOO HIGH. IT'S DEFECTIVE. AND BREAKING AGAIN. THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES SUCH AS THE AUTOMATIC WINDOWS AND DOOR LOCKS. THE PASSENGER FRONT WINDOW DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. AND THE DRIVER DOOR LOCK DOES LOCK WITH THE AUTO LOCKS. AND THE KEY HOLE IS BROKEN. SO EVERY TIME I DRIVE I HAVE TO LOCK THE FRONT DOOR FROM THE BACK SEAT AND THEN USE THE AUTO LOCK. THE DRIVER VISOR HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR YEARS. IT JUST HANGS. SO I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH IT TO THE SIDE. AND IT HANGS LOWER THAN NORMAL. WHICH IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT OBSTRUCTS MY VIEW AND I CAN'T USE IT TO BLOCK OUT THE SUN. AFTER SPENDING A FEW DAYS IN SC, WE LEFT THE CAR SITTING FOR 4 DAYS AT AN AIRPORT, THEN DROVE IT AROUND IN SC FOR TWO DAYS PRIOR TO STARTING RETURN TRIP TO MIAMI. ABOUT 3 HOURS INTO RETURN TRIP, THE AIR CONDITIONING BEGAN BLOWING WARM AIR. I READ THE ENTIRE OWNERS MANUAL AND TRIED ALL OF ITS SUGGESTIONS. IN THE SIDE MIRROR, I SAW A BLACK PLASTIC PIECE ABOUT THE SIZE OF A MEDIUM SIZED PANCAKE. WE DROVE FOR APPROXIMATELY ANOTHER HALF HOUR BEFORE THE HEAT BECAME UNBEARABLE, SO I CALLED THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALER THAT HAD SERVICED THE CAR AND ASKED FOR ADVICE. HE SUGGESTED THAT WE PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. THE AIR CONDITIONING STILL WAS ON FAN, BUT THE CAR HEATED UP. HE THOUGHT THAT WE HAD HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE COOLING FAN MOTOR OR THAT WE HAD BLOWN THE COMPRESSOR'S DRIVE BELT / CLUTCH. APPARENTLY, THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED. THE CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 33,400 MILES ON IT AND WAS STILL UNDER THE 36,000 WARRANTY. DURING SERVICE PRIOR TO THE THE TRIP, WE REQUESTED THAT A NEW AIR CONDITIONING FILTER BE INSTALLED BECAUSE OF CONSTRUCTION DIRT IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.
DUELER H/T 684 BRIDGESTONE TIRE ON RIGHT REAR OF MY HONDA CRV 03, TREAD SEPARATED WHILE DRIVING OFF EXIT RAMP ON FREEWAY. THERE WAS NO WARNING. TIRE PRESSURE HAD BEEN CHECKED LESS THAN TWO WEEKS BEFORE. THERE WAS PLENTY OF TREAD LEFT ON TIRE. THE TIRE JUST FELL APART WHILE I WAS DRIVING. HONDA DEALER REFERRED ME TO FIRESTONE DEALER WHO REFERRED ME TO A CORPORATE FIRESTONE DEALER WHO GAVE ME A CLAIM NUMBER TO CALL. I EXPECT IF I CALL THEY WILL PRORATE THE TIRE AND SELL ME ANOTHER TO PUT ON THE CAR. MY FEELING IS THAT THESE TIRES ARE NOT SAFE AND I NEED TO REPLACE THEM BEFORE ANOTHER FALLS APART AND NOT WITH BRIDGESTONE OR FIRESTONE TIRES.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA CR-V. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY ACCELERATED TO APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DECREASE IN SPEED BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT WITH THE THROTTLE CAP AND MADE THE REPAIR. NO OTHER FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED SINCE THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 75,000. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN BRINGING THE VEHICLE IN FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED FOR ISSUES WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE REPORTING TO THE DEALER IN 2005 THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE BUT UPON BRAKING THE ISSUE WOULD RESOLVE AND COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED BY THE DEALER. ON THE 2ND INCIDENT IS WHERE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 80 MPH BY FLOORING THE BRAKE THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO DECELERATE BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP EVENTUALLY STOPPING THE VEHICLE BY PUTTING IT INTO PARK. THE DEALER STATED THE THROTTLE PLATE WAS STICKING. UPDATED 08/03/07 *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH DRIVER MADE A LEFT TURN AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. OWNER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A FUEL PUMP FAILURE. VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. *AK
SHIFTER GOT STUCK 2ND GEAR AUTOMATIC HAD TO PLAY WITH SHIFTER TO CHANGE GEAR TO DRIVE. *AK
