DURING COLD WEATHER, WHEN STARTING THE CAR IN THE MORNING, IT MAKES A WEIRD NOISE, NOT SURE IF IT IS THE TRANSMISSION. ANY TIME I SPEED UP THE CAR FROM 20 PMPH TO 35 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION MAKES A NOISE SIMILAR TO AMBULANCE NOISE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE IT IS UNDER WARRANTY YET AND THEY SAID IT IS NORMAL, I DON'T AGREE WITH THIS, PLEASE INVESTIGATE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE TIRES WERE SET TO THE CORRECT PSI AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE SYSTEM WAS WORKING UP TO SPECIFICATIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. UPDATED 7/28/15*CN
THE CARS A/C CONDENSER WAS HIT BY A PEBBLE ON THE ROAD AND IT DAMAGED ONE OF THE VEINS. NEEDS TO REPLACE WITH A NEW ONE.
WHEN DOING THE FIRST OIL CHANGE, THERE WERE SIGNIFICANT OIL LEAK AROUND TIMING CHAIN COVER.
WHEN CHANGING FROM PARK TO DRIVE AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE ROLLS FORWARD A FEW FEET IT CLUNKS THEN LURCHES AS IF THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY KICKED IN.
9 AM APRIL 16 POLICE KNOCKED ON DOOR SEVERAL HONDAS IN THE PARKING LOT HAD BEEN BROKEN INTO ND DRIVER AIRBAG STOLEN. CAR DID NOT START HAD TO BE TOWED TO SOUTHHONDA FOR REPAIRS. I HAVE A $500 DEDUCTIBLE AND I WANT HONDA TO REIMBURSE ME PLUS FIX THE FAULTY ALARM SYSTEM. I AM RETIRED $500 IS LOT FOR SOMETHING I DID NOT DO THANK YOU *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HONDA CR-V. UPON TURNING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES AND ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS FLICKERED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY HESITATED TO START THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR FRAYED CAUSING A LOSS OF CONNECTION TO THE COMPUTER OR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WAS REQUIRED IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V004000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60. UPDATED 10/06/2017*CN
ENGINE HAS A COLD START RATTLE, HONDA SAYS IT IS THE VTC ACTUATOR. HONDA HAS CHANGED IT ONCE AND IT STILL MAKES THE NOISE. HONDA SAYS THAT ARE WORKING ON A FIX, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THEY HAVE WORKING ON IT SINCE 2012.
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT, WE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES. HOWEVER, THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND AND IT APPEARED THAT THE CAR ACCELERATED. TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF US, WE TURNED TOWARDS THE SHOULDER AND UP A SMALL HILL. WE HIT A TREE ON THE SMALL HILL THAT CAUSED THE CAR TO FLIP UPSIDE DOWN. POLICE AND EMS RESPONDED TO THE SITE OF THE ACCIDENT TO REMOVE US FROM THE CAR AND EVALUATE/TREAT US FOR INJURIES.
THE CAR ENGINE CRANKS UP LIKE ITS ALREADY ENGAGED EVEN AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT OR FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. I TOLD THE CAR DEALER ABOUT IT AND HE SAID THE MANUFACTURING KNOWS, BUT WAS EARLY LAST YEAR. IT'S HAPPENING MORE OFTEN NOW. THE VEHICLE IS ALWAYS PARKED, EITHER AT HOME OR WORK ON A FLAT SURFACE. ( PARKING LOT OR DRIVEWAY)
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HONDA CR-V. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, A LOUD POPPING NOISE SUDDENLY CAME FROM THE ROOF AREA OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER DISCOVERED THAT THE GLASS SUN ROOF EXPLODED FROM THE INSIDE OUTWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT NO FURTHER INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

2014 HONDA CRV: IN FEB 2015 WINDSHIELD WIPERS MOSTLY DO NOT WORK AT ALL OR THEY WORK INTERMITTENTLY IN COLD WEATHER...ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS AND FRIGHTENING WHEN THEY STOPPED DURING SEVERAL SNOWSTORMS ALLOWING NO VISIBILITY. AFTER MAKING A LONG DRIVE TO FORT WAYNE DON AYRES ( AND TRYING TO FIND A DAY WHEN BOTH WIPERS AND I WERE NOT WORKING AND THAT IT WAS NOT SNOWING ON THE INTERSTATE) THE WIPERS STARTED WORKING AGAIN AFTER THE CRV WAS DRIVEN INTO THEIR GARAGE. HAD TO BRING IT BACK WHEN WIPERS NOT WORKING, WE WERE TOLD. IN THE MEANTIME CRV WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IN SNOWSTORMS. ON SECOND VISIT THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE MOTOR ON THE WIPERS HAD TO BE REPLACED. A LITTLE NUISANCE PROBLEM TO THEM BUT VERY FRIGHTENING TO ME WHEN DRIVING BLIND IN SNOWSTORMS. LUCKY NOT TO HAVE HAD A WRECK OR EVEN A STROKE FROM THE FRUSTRATION OF SPENDING SO MUCH MONEY ON A VEHICLE TO STAY SAFE IN WINTER WEATHER...ONLY TO HAVE NONFUNCTIONAL WIPERS THAT MAKE IT UNDEPENDABLE IN WINTER WEATHER. HOPE THIS WILL BE HELPFUL TO SOMEONE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE VEHICLE JERKED AFTER A COMPLETE STOP AND DURING ACCELERATION THE VEHICLE HESITATED THEN JERKED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT VEHICLE'S ALARM ACTIVATED AND FAILED TO DEACTIVATE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALARM MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT DETERMINE THE FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE JERKING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 15,000. HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE GRINDING NOISE WHEN STARTED SOMETIMES. ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW RUBBING AT TIMES WHEN IT IS RAISED OR LOWERED. WISH THE HOOD RELEASE WAS BETTER LOCATED AND MARKED.
EVERY MORNING WITH TEMPERATURES UNDER 20 DEG F, THERE IS A GRINDING NOISE UPON START UP, NOISE VARIES IN DURATION BETWEEN 1-2 SECONDS.
MORE THAN 5 TIMES WHEN STARTING THE CRV, FROM A COLD START AND 2 WARM STARTS, I GET A HARSH GRINDING 'METAL-ON-METAL' SOUND FROM THE FRONT RIGHT OF THE ENGINE. THIS IS HAPPENING ALSO WITH WARMS STARTS (2X THIS WEEK). CALLED HONDA DEALER , ROCHESTER NY WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW 6 MONTHS AGO. SPOKE TO A SENIOR SERVICE ADVISOR AND TOLD ME OUT RIGHT THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM/DEFECT (HIS WORDS) AND HONDA IS WELL AWARE OF IT AND THERE IS NO FIX KNOWN. I ASKED FOR A DATE TO BRING MY 2014 CR-V IN AND WAS ADVISED THERE WAS NO REASON TO LOOK AT MY CAR AND TO WAIT FOR THE COLD WEATHER TO GO AWAY. HE ALLOWED ME TO QUOTE HIM THAT "THERE IS NO PROBLEM, IT'S THE VTEC ACTUATOR, NOTHING TO FIX PER HONDA USA AND ASSURED ME THAT NO, NONE DAMAGE IS ACCRUING WHEN I HEAR THE GRINDING ENGINE START NOISE." HE SUGGESTED THAT I TURN THE KEY TO THE 'ON' POSITION FOR 20 SECONDS, TURN OFF THE KEY, AND RESTART THE CAR AND I SHOULD HAVE NO ISSUES. I TRIED THAT 2X TODAY 2/28/2015 AND STILL GOT THE SAME HARSH GRINDING NOISE. THE FACT THE DEALER WON'T EVEN LET ME MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO CHECK THIS CAR, AND WITH MUCH RESEARCH BY MYSELF, THERE IS 100'S OF THESE SAME REPORTS VIA GOOGLE, YOUTUBE VIDEOS WITH EXACT SOUNDS. I DEMAND THIS CAR TO BE FIXED, IT IS NOT STARTING CORRECTLY, AND I AM GETTING ZERO ASSISTANCE FROM THE HONDA DEALER HERE IN ROCHESTER, NY. BY THE INFORMATION GIVEN TO ME, THIS IS A KNOWN, ON-GOING DEFECT IN MANY HONDA ENGINES, AND WHEN I ASK MORE THAN 50+ PRE-SALE QUESTIONS, AT NO TIME WAS I GIVEN THIS INFORMATION UPFRONT. THE DEALER AND HONDA ARE SIMPLY HIDING A KNOWN PROBLEM AND ARE USING HORRID CUSTOMER SERVICE TACTICS TO GT AROUND IT. *TR
BURNING RUBBER SMELL FROM BRAKES. THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED WAS WHEN THE CAR WAS SIX MONTHS OLD AND AFTER A ROUGH WINTER IN NORTHEAST, DEALER INFORMED THAT SALT AND WATER MAY HAVE WASHED OFF PROTECTIVE BRAKE COATING, LUBRICANT....THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS RECURRED ON AT LEAST ANOTHER THREE OCCASIONS, IN SOME INSTANCES WITH OR WITHOUT HARSH WINTER CONDITIONS. THE FOUL RUBBER BURNING SMELL USUALLY GOES AWAY 10-15 MINUTES AFTER CAR COOLS OFF BUT THE PROBLEM HAS CERTAINLY PERSISTED. I'VE OWNED THREE HONDA CARS PRIOR TO MY '14 CRV AND DEALERS EXPLANATION JUST DOES NOT MAKE SENSE.
GRINDING SOUND AT START UP ON COLD MORNINGS,PROBABLY FAULTY VTC ACTUATOR WHICH HONDA WILL OR CANNOT FIX. THIS GRINDING HAS TO BE DOING SOME KIND OF DAMAGE THAT WILL BE MORE SERIOUS LATER TO MY VEHICLE.

I STARTED MY CAR WITH THE REMOTE START AND A LITTLE OVER TEN MINUTES LATER WENT OUT TO CLEAN OFF MY CAR AND I DIDN'T WANT MY CAR TO TURN OFF WHEN THE REMOTE START TIMED OUT SO I PUT MY KEY IN THE IGNITION AND TURNED IT SO THE CAR WOULD STAY TURNED ON WHILE I CLEANED OFF MY CAR. AS I WAS CLEANING OFF MY CAR I HEARD THE DOORS LOCK WITH THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE OVER 20 MPH AND ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT RODENTS WERE CHEWING THE HARNESS WIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER ON FEBRUARY 4, 2014 WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANK SENSOR AND HARNESS WIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
MOONROOF SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED WITHOUT ANY IMPACT FROM A FOREIGN OBJECT. *TR
WHEN YOU COLD START THE CAR IT MAKES A GRINDING NOISE. HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES AND THEY CAN NEVER DUPLICATE THE NOISE. I TAKE IT HOME AND IT DOES IT AGAIN THE NEXT DAY EACH TIME. I RECORDED THE NOISE AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THEY ORIGINALLY TOLD ME THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. THE THIRD TIME I TOOK IT IN THEY CLAIMED HONDA AMERICA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND WERE WORKING ON IT. AFTER WAITING 6 WEEKS FOR RESOLUTION, I CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. I REQUESTED THE NUMBER TO HONDA AMERICA AND CALLED. I WAS TOLD BY HONDA AMERICA THAT THEY DIDN'T DEEM THIS PROBLEM A DEFECT AND THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT RECOURSE I HAVE. IF YOU LOOK ON THE DIFFERENT BLOGS AND SITES ONLINE...THEY DO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH NUMEROUS OTHER HONDA VEHICLES. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A BRUISED LIP AND A FRACTURED KNEE BUT NO MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000.
ON COLD DAYS I HEAR GRINDING NOISE WHEN I START MY CAR, FEW SECOND NOISE THEN ITS FINE. I NOTICED IT STARTED IN DECEMBER WHEN THE COLD WEATHER HITS TEXAS. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN DAILY ONLY ON COLD DAYS AS CAR SITS IN DRIVEWAY. SOME DAYS IT WILL BE COLD AND IT WILL BE FINE AND OTHER DAYS ANOTHER COLD DAY AND IT WILL HAPPEN FOR A FEW SECONDS. MY CAR HAS SLIGHTLY OVER 8000 MILES. I FIND THIS TOO SOON TO HAVE ANY ISSUES. I TOOK IT TO LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP JANUARY 16 WHERE CAR SAT OVER NIGHT TO DUPLICATE THE SOUND AND THE CAR DID NOT MAKE THAT NOISE. THE WEATHER WAS IN THE 40'S AND NOISE COULD NOT BE HEARD. MY CAR WAS STILL AT DEALERSHIP ON JANUARY 19 AND AGAIN NO SOUND WAS HEARD FROM CERTIFIED HONDA TECH. I OPENED UP HONDA CARE TICKET FOR A SOLUTION AND A PUSH FROM THEM TO REPLACE THE VTC ACTUATOR. THE TECH PLAYED DUMB AND SAID I WAS THE FIRST OWNER TO HAVE THIS COMPLIANT AND THEREFORE COULD NOT PIN POINT THE PROBLEM AND COULD NOT FIX SOMETHING HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE. I TOOK MY CAR FROM THEM AFTER SITTING THERE SINCE FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY AND MONDAY JAN 19. HONDA CARE DID NOT PUSH THE ISSUE TO THE DEALERSHIP SO I AM CONSIDERING TRADING IN MY CAR. I CANNOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR A FAULTY HONDA PROBLEM. NOW I THE CONSUMER HAVE BEEN DUPED BY THIS IGNORANCE AND LETTING THIS KNOWN ISSUE JUST SIT AROUND AND GET BIGGER WITH CONSUMERS. *TR
BOUGHT 2014 HONDA CRV THE ENGINE START MAKING THE GRINDING NOISE ON START UP IN COLD WEATHER. BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT IT IS KNOW ISSUE AND HONDA IS WORKING ON IT. FUNNY THING IS I KNOW OTHER PEOPLE WHO OWN THE SAME MODEL OF CRVS AND THEY HAVE NO ENGINE GRIND ON START UP. THIS IS COMMON IN 2012-12014 AND THEY HAVE NOT HAD ANY ISSUES. FROM WHAT I READ IT SOUNDS LIKE HONDA HAS BEEN WORKING ON THIS ISSUE SINCE THE 2012 MODEL, AND IT'S NOW 2016. II'M PRETTY SURE I WILL TRADE IN MY CRV FOR A SOMETHING ELSE THAN A HONDA.
IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I DROVE MY BRAND NEW CR-V AT NIGHT AND THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WERE SO LOW THAT I COULDN'T EVEN TELL THAT THEY WERE ON. IT MADE IT VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE ON SUBURBAN STREETS WHERE THERE ARE INADEQUATE STREET LIGHTING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE 90 WHEN ALL OF SUDDEN EPS( ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING), VSA( VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST) FAILURE AND LOW TIRE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. STEERING BECAME VERY HARD TO TURN.WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER AFTER ONE DAY OF ANALYSIS THEY TOLD THAT ALIGNMENT OF ONE THE FRONT TIRES WAS VERY OFF. EVEN THOUGH IT IS AN WARRANTY ISSUE THEY REFUSED TO HONOR IT AND BLAMED ME FOR BUMPING THE VEHICLE. I CALLED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE TO REPORT THE PROBLEM.AFTER ONE DAY SOME ONE FROM HONDA CUSTOMER SUPPORT CALLED AND REPEATED THE SAME THING WHICH DEALER TOLD.MY ONLY CONCERN IF THE EPS FAILURE WAS THE ISSUE BUT INSTEAD OF ADDRESSING ISSUE THEY JUST TRIED TO ESCAPE. *TR
THE TPMS WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON SINCE NOT LONG AFTER THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW. WE ARE TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE LATEST SOFTWARE UPGRADE HAS BEEN INSTALLED. ANNOYING, USELESS LIGHT. CONSTANTLY RE-SETTING. *TR

I'M HAVING THE SAME VTC ACTUATOR PROBLEM AS MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING. STARTED AFTER FIRST OIL CHANGE. SEVERAL TIMES IN WEATHER BELOW 40 BUT HAS NOW MADE SAME GRINDING NOISE FROM 60 DEGREE DOWN. JUST NOT AS MUCH AND NOT AS BAD SOUNDING LIKE WHEN BELOW 40. ALSO HEARD IT WHILE DRIVING ON A TRIP FOR 3 HOURS AT 75MPH. HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE ( I RECORDED CALLS )SAID THEIR JOB IS TO FIX UNDER WARRANTY . BUT THEY HAVE NO FIX AND ONLY TRIED ONCE. I WAS TOLD NOT ALL DO IT, SOMETIMES REPLACING THE PART WILL FIX IT. THEY ONLY TRIED ONCE. I TOOK IT IN 3 TIMES AND MENTION IT MORE THAN 3 TIMES BUT THEY WILL NOT EVEN TRY. MY GUESS , THEY DON'T WANT 4 FAILED ATTEMPTS ON FIXING IT. THEN YOU COULD FILE LEMON LAW ETC. THEY HAVE FOUND AWAY TO WORK THE LAWS IN THEIR FAVOR. SO NOW OWNERS ARE SCREWED. A QUOTE FROM ANOTHER COMPLAINT I READ PRETTY MUCH SUMS IT UP FOR ME EXCEPT, I BOUGHT CRV IN LONGVIEW TEXAS. TOOK IT TO HONDA DEALER AND THEY CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA WHO TOLD THEM THAT THIS WAS A "NORMAL PROBLEM" WITH CR-VS APPARENTLY DUE TO THE OIL PUMP NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. AMERICAN HONDA WAS CONTACTED AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT HAVE NOT INDICATED ANY SOLUTION. *TR
WHEN STARTING THE CAR, ESPECIALLY AFTER IT SITTING FOR A WHILE, IT WILL MAKE A RATCHETING SOUND AFTER STARTING. I CALLED THE DEALER WHERE PURCHASED FROM AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A VTC ACTUATOR PROBLEM THAT THERE IS NO FIX FOR. WAS TOLD THEY ARE WORKING ON IT AND WOULD HAVE A FIX IN FEBRUARY. LOOKED UP THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND SAW THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH HONDA'S SINCE 2008 ALONG WITH NUMEROUS VIDEOS OF THE SAME SOUND.
DURING A 3500 MILE TRIP THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING WARNING LIGHT (TPMS) CAME ON AT LEAST 6 TIMES. EACH TIME I STOPPED AND NONE OF THE TIRES WERE LOW. I RESET THE SYSTEM AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE. EVENTUALLY, THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND I REPEATED THE SAME, STOP AND CHECK PROCEDURE, EACH TIME THERE WASN'T ANY VARIATION IN THE TIRE PRESSURE. I HAVE HAD TPMS ON OTHER VEHICLES AND NEVER HAVE I HAD A FALSE READING. THE HONDA SYSTEM IS A BASIC SYSTEM AT BEST AND FROM READING OTHER COMPLAINTS, HAS BEEN PLAGUED WITH PROBLEMS. THEIR SYSTEM IS MORE OF AN ANNOYANCE THAN BENEFIT. I WAS TOLD THE 2014'S HAD UPDATED SOFTWARE WHICH DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK. HONDA NEEDS TO DESIGN A SUITABLE FIX FOR A KNOWN PROBLEM. *TR
MY ELDERLY MOTHER DIED IN A FIRE IN HER 2014 HONDA CR-V. THERE WERE NO WITNESSES TO THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE. THE CAR WAS FIRST SEEN WHEN FULLY ENGULFED BY FLAME, 10 TO 20 MINUTES AFTER MY MOTHER WAS SEEN GETTING INTO HER CAR. UNKNOWN IF SHE LET IT IDLE BEFORE DRIVING. SHE DROVE ABOUT 1200 FEET. HER CAR WAS FOUND IN WET IVY AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HER KEY WAS IN HER HAND, AND SHE WAS LEANING TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR, APPARENTLY TRYING TO ESCAPE THE FIRE. (BECAUSE THE CAR WAS ON A HILL, LEANING TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SIDE, FLAMES FROM BENEATH THE CAR WERE STRONGEST ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND WOULD HAVE BLOCKED HER EXIT. THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS NOT COMPLETELY BURNED.) IT IS IMPROBABLE THAT THE IVY IGNITED BECAUSE IT WAS LATE FALL IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST AND THE WEATHER HAD BEEN VERY WET FOR DAYS. I BELIEVE THAT A FIRE IGNITED SOMEWHERE IN THE VEHICLE AND THIS FIRE CAUSED MY MOTHER TO GO OFF THE ROAD. AN AUTOPSY SHOWED SHE DIED OF SMOKE INHALATION AND BURNS. THE CAR WAS IN GOOD CONDITION WITH RECENT SERVICING. NO SIGNS OF RECENT OIL LEAKAGE IN GARAGE. WE HAVE LOCATED OTHER 2012-2014 CR-V FIRES THAT BEGAN SPONTANEOUSLY. HONDA REPEATED WHAT THE SERVICE TECH TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE VTC ACTUATOR BUT ARE CURRENTLY DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. THEY SAID, "WE ARE AWARE OF THE CONCERN AND ARE LOOKING TO SEE WHAT WE COULD DO TO REDUCE IT". I THEN ASKED THEM TO EXPLAIN WHAT EXACTLY IN THE VTC ACTUATOR IS MAKING THE NOISE. I WAS TOLD, "I APOLOGIZE BUT INFORMATION ON WHAT IS MAKING THE NOISE IS NOT AVAILABLE"... NOT KIDDING. THEY ALSO SAID, "THE NOISE DOESN'T AFFECT THE DRIVEABILITY OR RELIABILITY OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER HAS INDICATED THAT THIS NOISE ISSUE IS CAUSED BY THE VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL VALVE (VTC) AND THAT HONDA IS WORKING ON A PERMANENT SOLUTION. HONDA HAS BEEN AWARE OF NOISE ISSUE AND SUPPOSEDLY WORKING ON A SOLUTION FOR AT LEAST 2 MODEL YEARS YET NO PERMANENT SOLUTION TO ISSUE HAS BEEN PROVIDED AT THIS TIME.
