2014 HONDA CR-V. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO DEFECTIVE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda CR-V equipped with Cooper Tires, Tire Line: Evolution Tour, Tire Size: 225/65R/17, DOT Number: (Not Available). The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle began to violently shake and vibrate. After stopping to inspect the vehicle, it was discovered that the side wall steel belts had separated on all four tires. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who replaced the four defective tires. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000. The contact stated that the vehicle was driven, not towed, to the local dealer.
We have had 3 Yokohama Geolander CV GO58 tires fail over the course of two months. Two were from the purchase in 2020, one was a replacement for one of the 2020 tires that failed in July 2022. One just failed this evening, August 17, 2022. The tires are not just deflating, they are shredding with little advance notice. The tire pressure gauge comes one and within moments the tires begins to shred. The size of the tire is 215 70 16. My daughter is driving this vehicle in Dallas, Texas and we are concerned that these tires are bad.
THE TIRE GAUGE LIGHT WILL NOT RESET. I MADE SURE THE TIRES WERE INFLATED CORRECTLY. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC FOR A NORMAL BRAKE REPAIR. I ASKED HIM TO REST THE TIRE GAUGE. HE ADVISED ME THE GAUGE SENSORS ARE NOT WORKING ON ANY OF THE TIRES.
TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON WHEN PRESSURE IS FINE AND/OR COMES BACK ON AFTER RECALIBRATION AND CORRECT PRESSURE IN TIRES IN CONFIRMED. HAS DONE THIS FOR 3 YEARS, INTERMITTENTLY. HONDA WON'T DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY CAN'T REPLICATE IT.
TIRE FAILURE - CONTINENTAL CROSS CONTACT LX 225/65/R17 WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 40MPH WITH MEAN TEMPERATURE OF 74 DEGREES AND MAX OF 84 THE TIRE BLEW OUT WITH NO APPARENT REASON TO DO SO. VERY CLEARLY THERE WERE DISTINCT FLAPS ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE TIRE THAT GAVE IN ADDITION TO THE FRONT SIDE. APPEARED AS IT THE WALL WEAKENED.

TAKATA RECALL. TIRE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AT 9:25 AM. NONE OF THE TIRES WERE UNDER INFLATED. AFTER CHECKING THE TIRES I RESET THE DEVICE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS IS HAPPENED AND IT OCCURRED A FEW DAYS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED INCLUDING ROTATING THE TIRES. DRIVING CLEAR WEATHER, VERY GOOD STREET CONDITION, GOING 50 MILES PER HOUR PULLED TO ALMOST A FULL STOP FOR A LIGHT SIGNAL AND THEN HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE. MOVED FORWARD AND FELT TIRE WAS FLAT. PILLED OVER AND OBSERVED THE SIDE OF THE TIRE BLEW OUT. 2014, HONDA CRV PURCHASED BRAND NEW. MILES ON THE VEHICLES 13,485. NO WEAR ON ALL TIRES VISIBLE. TIRE JUST BLEW UP AND APPEARS LIKE A DEFECT SINCE THERE WAS NO TIRE DAMAGE. TIRE PRESSURE WAS AT PROPER PSI.
I HAVE A 2014 HONDA CRV WITH 19K MILES ON IT. I HAD THE TIRES ROTATED AND BALANCED 9-14-14 AT 5586 MILES AND 7-27-2015 AT 14461 MILES AT THE DEALER IN ROCKWALL, TX. I HAD THE TIRES ROTATED AND BALANCED AT DISCOUNT TIRES ON 1-13-2016 AND THE SERVICE MAN INFORMED ME THAT AT 18746 MILES THAT THE TIRES WERE HALF GONE! THE CAR CAME WITH CONTINENTAL CROSS CONTACT LX 225/65R17 TIRES 60K TIRES. I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED MUCH MORE FROM HONDA. I QUESTIONED THE SALESMAN AT THE TIME ABOUT THE TIRES AND HE ASSURED ME THESE WERE GOOD TIRES. I DO NOT CONSISTED THIS GOOD. WHY WOULD HONDA PUT SUCH POOR PREFORMING TIRES ON THERE CARS?
AFTER STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT WHEN IT TURNS GREEN HAD NO ACCELERATION UNTIL PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL UP AND DOWN TWICE. THIS HAS HAPPEN NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE THEN. IT SEEMS THE ENGINE STAYS AT IDLE. ALSO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE TPS LIGHT GOING ON FOR NO REASON AND NOW A GROWLING SOUND WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD AND IT IS COLD OUTSIDE BELOW 20 DEGREES WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE. MANUFACTURE NOT NOTIFIED. THESE ARE ISSUES THAT HAVE BEEN REPORTED FROM OTHER CR-V OWNERS NUMEROUS TIMES A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED GET A BEFORE SOMEONE LOSSES THERE LIFE OR CAUSES OTHER TO LOOSE THEIRS.
TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THE PRESSURE IS AT RECOMMENDED SETTING. DOESN'T MATTER WHERE I'M DRIVING. HAVE BROUGHT THIS IN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES. THEY ALWAYS CHECK FOR ME AND TELL ME I'M FINE, AND TO JUST RESET THE LIGHT. I WENT TO GET THE TIRE FIXED WHEN I WAS TOLD BY THE TIRE DEALER THAT ALL 4 TIRES WERE DRY ROTTED. I WAS SKEPTICAL BECAUSE THE CAR WAS JUST 2 YEARS OLD ON OCT. 30, 2015. I TOOK IT TO A FRIEND WHO IS A MECHANIC AND ASKED HIM ABOUT "PLUGGING" MY TIRE JUST TO SEE IF HE WOULD SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE TIRES BEING DRY ROTTED. HE TOOK THE TIRE OFF AND KEPT EXAMINING IT, THEN STARTED LOOKING AT THE OTHER TIRES THEN HE SAID ALL FOUR TIRES HAVE DRY ROT. HE SUGGESTED 4 NEW TIRES AND HE DOES NOT SELL TIRES. I CALLED THE HONDA DEALER BUT HE DID NOT GET BACK TO ME UNTIL LATER THAT DAY. I CALLED CONTINENTAL AND WAS DIRECTED TO ONE OF THEIR DEALERS. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT A BIG DEAL AND THEY WOULD ONLY PRO RATE THE TIRES NOT REPLACE THEM FOR FREE. I TOLD CONTINENTAL WHY WOULD I WANT THE SAME TIRES ON MY CAR AGAIN? THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON EVEN THOUGH THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE TIRES IS AT THE RECOMMENDED PRESSURE. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY, MANY TIMES AND THE DEALER CANNOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE LAST TIME I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY "RECALIBRATED" THE SYSTEM. THAT STILL DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY ADMITTED THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM CAN OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR IN MOTION AND IT DOES NOT MATTER IF IT IS OCCURRING ON A CITY STREET, HIGHWAY OR WHEN TURNING. IT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. I'M AFRAID THAT PEOPLE WILL IGNORE THESE FALSE WARNINGS AND EVENTUALLY DRIVE WITH A TIRE THAT IS ACTUALLY UNDER INFLATED.
