There are 16 owner-reported powertrain & transmission complaints for the 2019 Honda CR-Vin NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
The fuel injector valves started leaking resulting in a P0172 Rich Fuel mixture diagnostic code. When fuel injector valves leak gasoline into the engine oil it can cause an engine fire, severe damage to the engine and catalytic converter. My daughter was driving the car when this happened which makes me very upset that a known safety issue has not been addresses by the NHTSA or Honda. This effects millions of CRVs which is why Honda is fighting a recall and why the NHTSA must step in and fine Honda and force a recall. The potential for engines catching on fire should result in an immediate recall. When I talked to the Honda shop manager he told me that he is seeing several CRVs every week with faulty fuel injectors and quite frequently bad catalytic converters. This is a well-documented problem which makes me wonder why nothing has been done.
My 2019 Honda CR-V, which has the 1.5 liter turbo engine, with 78,000 started up with the dashboard lit up like a xmas tree and reported approx. a dozen faults of all safety features EPB, LKAS, Emissions, etc. It was diagnosed by Lester Glenn Honda in Wall, NJ with oil dilution caused by the leaky fuel injectors. The mechanic noted TDC P0172 - System Too Rich & P0301- cylinder 1 misfire and all fuel injectors failed A/F test. This vehicle had its fuel pump replaced earlier this year pursuant to the Honda recall for this (wondering if related). The same underlying problem was subject to a safety recall for the 2017-2018 model years, but the defect was not included for my 2019 model year even though it's the same 1.5L Turbo motor and there are numerous complaints from customers on the same exact issue. I was quoted over $2300 since it was past the warranty period (8k miles past the extended 7/70k emissions warranty that would have covered this 100%). Not only is this premature failure of critical engine component making the engine run very rough with a sudden and severe loss of powers, it produces a safety hazard of a direct rear-end crash risk due to the inability to maintain a safe operating speed. This is a significant expense for a defect Honda is already aware of. I believe this is a manufacturing defect that should be fully covered by Honda, along with any related systems affected by this issue. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this widespread defect affecting 2017–2019 CR-V models and issue a recall. I have not had it repaired yet as I asked the dealer to contact Honda Corporate and ask for a goodwill/good faith warranty.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while her son was driving approximately 25 MPH and turning left onto another street, the instrument cluster illuminated with several unknown warning lights, and the vehicle lost motive power. The driver was able to coast the vehicle off the road. The engine was still running, but while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact and her husband picked her son up and saw a trail of dark fluid leading up to where the vehicle was stopped. There was a puddle and another trail of dark fluid underneath the vehicle, draining from the front of the vehicle. The contact’s son had heard an abnormal popping sound when the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with transmission failure. The local dealer was contacted and advised to tow the vehicle to their location. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer, and it was determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and advised the contact that there were no other options to repair the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Vehicle began making noise when driving. Took to Honda and they discovered a bad bearing in the transmission. Car is regularly serviced and at 78K miles. Car needs a new transmission.
As I was attempting to quickly accelerate to merge onto the freeway my vehicle experienced extreme hesitation and engine misfires. All my dash warning lights were then illuminated. My vehicle nearly came to a stop. This nearly caused me to be rearended by vehicles on the freeway especially an 18-wheeler that was quickly approaching to my rear. I limped onto the side median where I stopped my vehicle turned it off and then restarted it. It restarted but all the warning lights were still illuminated. I managed to drive slowly to my dealership where my vehicle had just been around two weeks prior for a similar incident (only the one engine warning light was illuminated) where they replaced my fuel pump under recall. On my latest incident they did a diagnostic check, and it displayed DTC codes P0172, P0300, P0301, P0302, P0304, multiple cylinder misfires and fuel rail pressure too high. At their recommendation they replaced my fuel injector and spark plugs. My vehicle was 4 months and 8000 miles out of the extended Honda Care Warranty I had purchased when I bought my vehicle, so I had to pay for the repairs. Nearly 10 days later my vehicle was experiencing similar symptoms of hesitation and misfires upon rapid acceleration with all dash warning lights illuminated. I stopped and restarted my car drove it to an auto parts store where they ran a computer diagnostic check, and it showed random misfires and also this time it said i needed my PCM reprogrammed. I managed to reset the codes and now looking to sell my vehicle. I felt compelled to notify Honda corporate customer relations via email, not just for a reimbursement of payment but also for safety notification; they checked my VIN and was told since there was not a current campaign on that VIN and it was out of warranty so it's up to me to repair. I believe it is a safety issue affecting my model like it has affected others.
At approximately 33,188 miles, an “AWD System Problem” warning appeared on the instrument cluster of my 2019 Honda CR‑V AWD. Darrell Waltrip Honda in Nashville, TN scanned the vehicle and retrieved DTC C1851‑1E, which indicates a rear differential pump motor high‑current fault. The dealer misinterpreted this code and advised that the AWD control unit (Part No. 48310‑5TG‑H52) needed replacement, but stated the vehicle was safe to drive so repairs could be completed at my home dealership in Lexington, KY. At Don Jacobs Honda in Lexington, KY, the same DTC C1851‑1E was correctly interpreted as a failure of the rear differential pump motor, which was then replaced under warranty. No AWD control unit replacement was required. Honda Service Bulletin 23‑031 (“AWD Light ON: DTC C1851‑1E / DTC C1851‑18 Stored”) documents this rear differential pump motor issue for 2020–2021 CR‑V AWD models. My vehicle is a 2019 CR‑V AWD with the same DTC and failure mode, suggesting that this defect is not limited to 2020–2021 model years. I am submitting this complaint so that NHTSA is aware of this similar failure on a 2019 vehicle and can evaluate whether the affected model‑year range should be expanded.
My sister was driving on a highway going about 65 mph, and the rear cv axle suddenly snapped. A Honda dealership inspected the vehicle; they determined the root cause to be the rear differential engine loosing power, causing strain on the rear axle. There were no warning that the differential engine lost power.
Shutter Grille Problem Power Reduced.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle idled extremely rough. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a misfire in cylinder #1. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 19-037. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
I have a 2019 Honda CRV, purchased new on Guam from Triple J Honda (Tamuning) on Jan 2020. As of May 2023, my car has about 32,000 miles but my car began having trouble starting [engine made sputtering(?) noises when turning the key] that morning. Then, while driving in traffic, the car had STALLED/STOPPED WORKING in the middle of rush hour (around 9AM) traffic!!! THANK the LORD, though, the traffic light had just turned red so all the other drivers were slowing down around me! I tried over & over again, but the car wouldn't start! So, the police had to stop/redirect traffic and also helped me push my car to a safe area. Almost all the warning signals on my dashboard were lit on, so I wasn't sure what caused the problem. The engine warning light was also on, so I had a towing company take my car home to replace with a new Honda battery. After placing a new Honda car battery (bought at Triple J Tamuning), it still had difficulty starting, made sputtering noises, and was drivable for only 2-3 feet, then it died again! I had to tow my car again but to Triple J Honda (Tamuning) to diagnose the problem. The service advisor told me that the reason why my car won't start is because "You have a major problem with your fuel pump." I researched online and found that 2018-2019 Honda CRV had safety recalls for the fuel pumps. So, I searched the nhtsa & owners.honda.com websites whether there's a safety recall for my car; but there's no recall showing based on my VIN. Is it true that more cars are being still being added or owners notified later about the safety recalls? This 2019 Honda CRV is the only car available to make deliveries/pick up some supplies for my (very small: me & my mom) family business. So, we really do need this car working reliably asap. If Triple J Honda says that I have to pay for the fuel pump replacement because there's no safety recall for my car's VIN, what can/should I do? How can I know or be notified whether my car will get a safety recall? Thank
The car was running perfectly fine we were going to load some things into the trunk my wife was backing up and the car began to shake. All the sensors were in error: power steering, brakes system, high beams, tire pressure, tpms, engine light and some other sensor. The emergency brake was activated and we were unable to remove it, the brake light was flashing on the dashboard. The vehicle turned off and wouldn’t turn on. The vehicle had its battery checked and was fine. The vehicle has been taken to a Honda Dealership for diagnostic testing.
THIS IS A REPRODUCIBLE SOFTWARE GLITCH THAT CAN BE CONSISTENTLY TRIGGERED BY BRINGING THE CAR TO A STOP ON A SLIPPERY SURFACE, AND THEN FLOORING THE GAS PEDAL TO SPIN THE WHEELS WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN 'D'. AFTER THE WHEELS HAVE SPUN, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ERRATICALLY WHILE DRIVING UNTIL THE CAR IS RESTARTED
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IN A CARWASH PORT IN NEUTRAL, THE GAUGE SHIFTED IN REVERSE WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A POLE. NO AIRBAG DEPLOYED. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. NO POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NO MEDICAL ATTENTION CONTACTED. NO DEALER WAS CONTACTED. NO MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE DAMAGES WERE MADE TO THE REAR DRIVER SIDE HATCH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 4,700.
ON 2/7/2020 I WAS OPERATING MY CRV, MADE A LEFT TURN INTO DRIVEWAY OF TAVERN/RESTAURANT, 1080 E. PHILADELPHIA AVE., GILBERTSVILLE, PA. 19525 AND PULLED INTO THE FIRST PARKING SPACE ABOUT 10 FEET FROM STREET. I SLOWED DOWN TO ALMOST A STOP APPROX. 2 FEET FROM CONCRETE PARKING BLOCK, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND ENGINE ACCELERATED VERY HIGH CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO JUMP THE PARKING BLOCK AND STRIKING THE RESTAURANT WALL. APPROX. 8 FEET FROM PARKING BLOCK. MY WIFE ASKED ME WHAT I WAS DOING AND I POINTED TO MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE. NO ONE WAS HURT AND VERY MINIMAL DAMAGE TO WALL. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT TO DOUGLAS TWP. PD. I SPOKE TO PIAZZA HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AND MANAGER SAID THAT I MOST LIKELY HAD MY FOOT HALF ON BRAKE AND HALF ON GAS PEDAL. I ALSO GAVE SAME STORY TO ALLSTATE INSURANCE. I REQUESTED THAT HEY CHECK THE BLACK BOX IN VEHICLE AND BOTH SAID THEY COULD NOT. MY VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AFTER $9.000.00 ESTIMATE WAS WRITTEN. I WAS SO AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND I TRADED IT IN TO PIAZZA HONDA WITHOUT LEAVING THEIR BUSINESS AFTER IT WAS REPAIRED. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 60 YEARS AND NEVER HAD MY FOOT HALF ON BRAKE A ND HALF ON GAS PEDAL. THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL ARE SEPARATED BY AT LEAST 3 INCHES. IF IT WAS ON BOTH PEDALS, I AM SURE THE BRAKES WOULD HAVE SCREECHED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP AT PIAZZA HONDA 4 DAYS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT FOR PA. VEHICLE INSPECTION AND DURING THE EXAM THEY TOLD ME THAT THE LEFT FRONT STRUT WAS LEAKING AND THEY INSTALLED A NEW ONE. THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY 8 MONTHS OLD WITH 11,000 MILES ON IT..
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 HONDA CR-V. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS ENGAGED IN PARK, WITH THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, IT ROLLED BACKWARDS AND WENT PART WAY OVER A WALL. IT STOPPED SUSPENDED ON THE WALL. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BILLY CRAFT HONDA (2634 LAKESIDE DR, LYNCHBURG, VA 24501, 434-385-6045), WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED OVER A 6 WEEK PERIOD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,000. *JB
VEHICLE WAS BACKED INTO GARAGE TO TOWEL DRY AFTER WASHING. VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN PARK, TURNED ENGINE OFF AND I EXITED THE VEHICLE. AFTER COLLECTING DRYING TOWELS I PROCEEDED TO LOCK VEHICLE (CONFIRMED BY BEEP) AND STARTED TO ENTER MY HOME WHEN I NOTICED VEHICLE BEGINNING TO ROLL OUT OF MY GARAGE. I COULD NOT CATCH IT BEFORE IT ROLLED DOWN MY DRIVE AND ACROSS MY STREET INTO A TREE DAMAGING FRONT END OF VEHICLE. WHEN I REACHED VEHICLE AND UNLOCKED IT TO ENTER IT WAS STILL IN PARK. I THEN STARTED VEHICLE AND BACKED IT UP (DRAGGING FRONT BUMPER) INTO MY GARAGE.
