While driving on the highway, my 2010 Honda Fit Sport automatic with 134,000 miles going around 60 mph lost power and started making sputtering noise. Fortunately, there was still some power left, and I was able to navigate to the shoulder of the highway. I turned off the car and turned It back on again and the Check Engine Light came on. I plugged in my BlueDriver diagnostic tool and it says Cylinder 2 Misfire. When I placed it in Drive, the car was making sputtering noise from the Engine Bay Area and would not accelerate, leaving me stranded on the side of the highway. I was lucky enough to maneuver the limping car in the middle of rush hours to the side of the highway. It's a miracle I didn't get into an accident, as the car lost power and was not accelerating properly. The mechanic did a diagnostic and said that Cylinder 2 spark plug blew, commonly due to the plugs coming loose, damaging the spark plug and ignition coil on cylinder 2. I searched the internet and found that other 2nd generation Honda Fit ('09-'13) owners also had spark plugs that came from the factory/ tightened to factory specification to only come loose again. I could have died or have gotten into a serious accident. Because of this horror story and being stuck on the highway for 4 hours, I will unfortunately never buy a Honda again, a brand that was supposed to be reliable.
A SPARK PLUG CAME OUT OF CYLINDER HEAD WHILE DRIVING. THIS DAMAGED THE CYLINDER HEAD AND IGNITION SYSTEM. FUEL ECONOMY SUFFERED. IT ALLOWED EXHAUSET FUMES TO BE DRAWN INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT CAUSING NAUSEA AND DIZZINESS.
THIS IS A REPRODUCIBLE PROBLEM!! IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME IF THE AIR TEMPERATURE IS BELOW 55 DEGREES. IF THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN HEATED FOR 5 MINUTES BEFORE DRIVING OUT TO THE ROAD, THE ENGINE WOULD BE DEAD EITHER AT AN UPHILL STOP SIGN OR DURING DRIVING WHILE THE BRAKE NEEDS TO BE USED. THE BATTERY SIGN LIGHTS FIRST AND FOLLOWED BY THE OIL LIGHT AND THEN THE ENGINE WOULD SWITCH OFF. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 HONDA FIT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH THE DRIVER CRASHED INTO A POLE AND PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO A TREE LOCATED BEHIND THE POLE. THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER AND EXPLODED INTO FLAMES. THE ENGINE DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTED TO THE SCENE AND FILED A REPORT. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BURNS TO SIXTY PERCENT OF HIS BODY AND A FRACTURED RIGHT ARM. THE DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL BY AMBULANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO SHOP FOR INSPECTION BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HONDA FIT. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V101000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. TWO WEEKS LATER, THE CONTACT NOTICED THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD AFTER CHANGING GEARS. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO STALL AFTER STARTING IN THE MORNINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. MALFUNCTION 1: WHILE BEING DRIVEN WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, CAR WITHOUT ANY DASHBOARD SIGNAL WARNING BEGINS TO PROGRESSIVELY AND INVOLUNTARILY DECELERATE. IT WILL NOT RESPOND TO APPLICATION OF THE INCREASE SPEED BUTTON ON THE CRUISE CONTROL PANEL NOR WILL IT INCREASE SPEED WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS PUSHED. EVENTUALLY THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF ON ITS OWN. TAKES MULTIPLE TRIES OF RESTARTING IT TO GET IT TO MOVE AGAIN. DATES: 11-25-10 & 1-30-11. I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 HONDA FIT SPORT AUTOMATIC AT 25MPH ON A CITY STREET, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF, ALL DASHBOARD INDICATOR LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS WENT COMPLETELY DARK; I PULLED THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, NOTICING THAT POWER STEERING AND BRAKE ASSIST WERE INACTIVE SO IT WAS A CHALLENGE TO GET THE CAR PULLED OVER. THE VEHICLE RE-STARTED ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND GAVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO ME WITH NO REPAIR WORK DONE. 9 DAYS LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, DASHBOARD WENT DARK, AND MY IPOD WAS FROZEN, WHICH WAS CONNECTED THROUGH THE USB PORT(IT WAS NOT CONNECTED DURING THE FIRST STALL). THE ENGINE DID NOT START ON THE FIRST OR SECOND ATTEMPT, BUT ON THE THIRD. ONCE THE VEHICLE STARTED, I TRIED TO SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE, BUT THE SHIFTER WAS STUCK AND WOULD NOT SHIFT. I PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS, AND SPENT ABOUT 60 SECONDS TRYING TO SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE BEFORE IT ACTUALLY BECAME UNSTUCK AND ALLOWED ME TO SHIFT. AT THAT POINT I THEN DROVE AWAY, I HAD BEEN BLOCKING TRAFFIC AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, AND THEN NOTICED THAT THE IPOD WAS FROZEN AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO MY RESTART ATTEMPTS. I EVENTUALLY FIGURED OUT HOW TO RESET THE IPOD AND IT WORKS FINE NOW. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM (AGAIN), AND KEPT IT AT THEIR SHOP FOR 9 DAYS STRAIGHT. THEY EVENTUALLY TOLD ME I JUST HAD TO TAKE IT BACK, SO I DID. NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER WERE DISPLAYED ON BOTH THE INCIDENTS. *TR
