THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING. UPON REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION THE FIRST TIME, THE SAME FAILURE RECURRED 30,000 MILES LATER. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME AND AGAIN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND WAS REPLACED. NOW AFTER THE THIRD REPLACEMENT, THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED FOR THE FOURTH TIME. PLEASE PROVIDE DETAILS. *JB
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME OUR TRANSMISSION HAS GONE OUT. FIRST IT WENT OUT AT 19,000 MILES, WAS REPLACED WITH A REBUILT TRANSMISSION AND HAS NOW GONE OUT AGAIN AT 32,000 MILES. HOW CAN WE PROCEED WITH HONDA TO ISSUE A RECALL?
WHEN I WOULD GO TO PASS AND PUSH DOWN ON THE GAS THE ENGINE WOULD REV UP AND IT WOULD TAKE 2 OR 3 SECONDS TO KICK IN TO PASSING GEAR. I TOOK IT TO THEM AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. NOW THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON AND THE CODE SAYS I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I TOLD THEM THAT IT WASN'T RIGHT WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR I HAD IT. I TOOK IT TO THEM TWICE AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. I CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID EVERY 15000 MILES AND IT STILL HAPPENED. I WENT TO HONDA AFTER THE LIGHT CAME ON AND SINCE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY THEY DENIED MY CLAIM. THE ONLY REASON IT TOOK THIS LONG TO GO BAD WAS BECAUSE I SERVICED IT REGULARLY. THE BEST PART WAS WHEN I TOOK IT TO THEM AFTER THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT HAS GONE ON THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY RECORD OF ME BRINGING MY VAN FOR THIS PROBLEM. WHAT A COINCIDENCE. *TR
THE CHILD WAS PLAYING WITH KEY RING WITH REMOTE CONTROL FOR DOOR LATCHES WHEN CHILD HIT REMOTE. THIS CAUSED DOOR TO START CLOSING WITH PARENT IN DOOR FRAME. DOOR HANDLE WAS GRABBED TO PREVENT DOOR FROM CLOSING. BUT DOOR KEPT CLOSING UNTIL STOPPING. CONSUMER'S ARM AND WRIST WAS PULLED. CONSUMER CONTACTED DEALERSHIP & INFORMED BY MECHANIC, NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT REMOTE CONTROL LOCKS ON DOOR.*AK
HONDA MOTOR CO. (HONDA) SOLD ME AND EQUIPMENT WITH A NEW VEHICLE, THAT IF USED AS SUCH, WILL DAMAGE THE VEHICLE AND WILL CONSTITUTE HAZARD TO OTHERS DRIVING ON THE ROAD. HONDA SOLD ODYSSEY - EX MINIVAN ALONG WITH A STANDARD PACKAGE THAT CONTAINED A ROOF RACK / CARRIER AMONG OTHER PERIPHERALS. I TRIED USING THE ROOF RACK / CARRIER AS PROVIDED WITH THE VEHICLE ON AUGUST 15, 2001, THE LOAD THAT I CARIED ON THE ROOF SLIPPED AND ALMOST FELL OFF THE VEHICLE INSPISTE OF MY BEST EFFORT IN TYING THE LOAD ON THE SET OF TWIN RACKS PROVIDED WITH THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY, DUE TO THE SOFT UNDERNEATH OF THE LOAD THE VEHICLE ROOF WAS NOT DAMAGED DUE TO THE LOAD SLIDING OFF THE ROOF. I CONTACTED HONDA TO FIND OUT HOW BEST TO USE THE CARRIER RACK PROIVDED WITH THE VEHICLE. HONDA REPRESENTATIVE VERBALLY INFORMED ME THAT THE ROOF CARRIER / RACK AS ORIGINALLY PROVIDED WITH THE HONDA ODYSSEY - EX MINIVAN CAN NOT BE USED, BUT HONDA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. BASICALLY, MY COMPLAIN IS THAT HONDA SOLD ME AN EQUIPEMENT WITH THE NEW VEHICLE THAT IF USED AS SUCH WILL DAMAGE THE VEHICLE, THE LOAD WILL MOST LIKELY FALL OF THE VEHICLE RESULTING IN HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS FOR OTHER DRIVING ON THE ROAD.

SEATBELTS WILL NOT RETRACT. DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT DOES NOT RETRACT CORRECTLY. INSTEAD OF DOOR OPENING IT PRESSES FORWARD. *AK SEAT BELT REPLACED THREE TIMES BECAUSE BELT CONTINUED TO COME OUT UNTIL MAXIMUM LENGTH AND WOULD NOT RETRACT. AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR WAS BROKE. THE CONSUMER IS ASKING FOR REPLACEMENT OR REFUND FOR THE VEHICLE.*YH
2001 HONDA ODYSSEY, MULTIPLE TRANSMISSION FAILURES. POTENTIAL FOR TRANSMISSION TO LOCKUP AND STOP CAR ABRUPTLY AT ANY SPEEDS. HONDA WAS DIRECTED TO EXTEND WARRANTY TO 93 MONTHS AND 109,000 PER A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. THIS APPLIES TO ORIGINAL SALES DATE ONLY. DOES NOT APPLY TO TRANSMISSIONS THEY HAVE REPLACED ONE OR MORE TIMES ALREADY. SOME OWNERS ARE REPORTING THEY ARE ARE ON THEIR FOURTH TRANSMISSIONS. HONDA AND HONDA OF AMERICA OF AMERICA HAVE NOT PERFORMED ANY MAJOR UPGRADES TO THESE TRANSMISSIONS, MERELY REPLACING DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION WITH ANOTHER REBUILT TRANSMISSION OF THE THE SAME TYPE. NOTICED VEHICLE LEAKING OIL APPROX. 2 1/2 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE. APPOINTMENT MADE FOR THE FOLLOWING WEEK. SEAL WHERE OIL PAN ATTACHES TO ENGINE WAS NOT PROPERLY SEALED OR DEFECTIVE. THIS WAS REPLACED ON AUGUST 8, 2001. APPROX. 2 1/2 WEEKS AFTER THIS I NOTICED MORE OIL LEAKING FROM VEHICLE IN GREATER QUANTITY THAN THE FIRST INCIDENT. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER AND VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP AWAITING PARTS SINCE 8/31/01. I AM TOLD THIS TIME IT IS THE REAR MAIN SEAL (CRANK SEAL BETWEEN ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION) THAT IS LEAKING AND THE TRANSMISSION WILL HAVE TO BE PULLED TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR. THERE HAS BEEN NO INJURY TO REPORT AS OF YET. I FEEL THAT THE POWER CLOSING DOORS ARE VERY DANGEROUS. THEY EXERT A GREAT DEAL OF PRESSURE BEFORE THE PRESSURE SENSOR KICKS IN AND REVERSES THE DOOR. A CHILD COULD REACH UP GETTING IN THE VAN, PULL THE HANDLE AND INITIATE THE DOOR TO CLOSE. IF HE FALTERED, IT WOULD BE VERY EASY FOR A BODY PART (IE NECK) TO GET LODGED IN THE DOOR AND THE FORCE MECHANISM WOULD NOT BE ENOUGH TO REVERSE THE DOOR BEFORE INJURY OR DEATH TO OCCUR.*AK
TIRE SIZE P21565R16, DOT NUMBER M30D99JX0101, MICHELIN TIRES WERE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON A 2001, HONDA, ODYSSEY WITH 3000 MILES ON THEM. WHEN DRIVING AT 70 MPH, FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE BLEWOUT AROUND SIDEWALL AREA OF TIRE. *AK *SLC
POWER DOORS DO NOT STOP PROPERLY WHEN AN OBSTRUCTION IS MET. THIS ALMOST INJURED MY CHILD. I BELIEVE THAT THESE DOORS SHOULD AT LEAST MEET THE STANDARD OF A GARAGE DOOR FOR REVERSING/STOPPING. I AM TOLD BY THE SERVICE STAFF THAT THE SENSITIVITY CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE HAZARD FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS MARKETED FOR FAMILIES WITH SMALLCHILDREN.*AK
THE SLIDING DOORS ON THE VAN SEAL SHUT AFTER RAIN, SNOW OR CAR WASHES. I HAVE TO CLIMB INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND PUSH THE DOORS OUT WHILE SOMEONE YANKS FROM THE OUTSIDE ON THE HANDLE. THE SEALS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND LUBRICATED OVER AND OVER, BUT TO NO AVAIL. I FEAR THAT IN AN ACCIDENT AN EMERGENCY RESPONDER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET INTO THE VAN TO HELP MY CHILDREN. *NM
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE FOLLOWING: OUT OF ALIGNMENT, LOUD BANG/TICKING, SHAKING, ENGINE HESITATION, INOPERATIVE A/C, A CONTAMINATED FILTER WITH METAL SHAVINGS, A/C DRAIN TUBE WAS RUBBING AND DRAINING ON THE STEERING RACK BOOT, COOLANT RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY AND THE RIGHT FRONT SEAL ON THE BODY WAS DAMAGED DUE TO IT BEING IMPROPERLY PLACED, A/C KNOB WAS BROKEN, THE A/C AIRFLOW AUTOMATICALLY CHANGED, WHEN THE A/C BLOWER MOTOR SPEED DECREASED, VARIOUS DASH LIGHTS WOULD DIM, THE HOOD LATCH WAS DEFECTIVE, STATIC SHOCK PROBLEM, THERE WAS A COOLANT SMELL, DUE TO THE RESERVOIR FLUID LEVEL, THE SLIDING DOOR WAS INOPERATIVE, THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE, THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY AND THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED, THE RIGHT DOOR SEAL HAD COME APART, THE SPLASH SHIELD CLIP WAS MISSING, THE IDLE SPEED FLUCTUATED FROM 750 TO 2000 RPM WITH THE VEHICLE IN PARK/NEUTRAL, AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER, THE MIL LIGHT HAD COME ON. THE REPAIRS ARE AS FOLLOWED: WHEELS ALIGNED, A/C CONDENSER AND COMPRESSOR EVAPORATION DRYER, INTAKE MANIFOLD, REINSTALLED REAR EVAPORATOR/HEATER UNIT, INSTALLED A DRAIN TUBE IN THE RETAINER BRACKET, HOOD LATCH WAS REPLACED, PCM REPLACED TO SOLVE THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, REMOVED THE BROKEN BOLT FROM THE BLOCK, THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY VIBRATION IS STILL UNRESOLVED, AND THE SLASH SHIELD CLIP HAS BEEN REPLACED. *MR SCC *JB
1. WHEEL ALIGNMENT-VEHICLE DRIFTS TO RIGHT REQUIRING DRIVER TO OVER STEER TO THE LEFT TO KEEP VEHICLE WITHIN ITS LANE. WHEEL ALIGNMENT PERFORMED;PROBLE CORRECTED. 2. A/C SYSTEM-VEHICLE HAD APPROX 4500 MILES ONIT WHEN TRAVELING APPROX 50MPH A LOUD BANG WAS HEARD FROM FRONT END, VEHICLE SIMULTANEOUSLY HESITATED AND SHOOK. A/C SYSTEM THEN FAILED TO COOL PROPERLY. THREE REPAIR ATTEMPTS WER MADE AND A/C STILL FAILED TO COOL PROPERLY. NOTIFIED MFG. FOR FINAL REPAIR ATTEMP. COMPLETE A/C SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. UPON COMPLETION OF REPAIR, VEHICLE WAS RELEASED WITH A/C DRAIN TUBE RUBBING & DRAINING ON STEERING RACK BOOT, COOLANT RESERVOIR LEFT EMPTY, COOLANT SYSTEM LEAKING AND RIGHT FRONT DOOR BODY SEAL DAMAGED. 3. PULLEY SYSTEM-VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO DEALERSHIPS 5 TIMES FOR ABNORMAL NOISES & VIBRATIONS FROM CRANKSHAFT PULLEY SYSTEM. TENSIONER PULLEY REPLACED TWICE, CRANKSHAFT PULLEY & ALTERNATOR BELT REPLACED X 1. NOTIFIED MFG. FOR FINAL REPAIR ATTEMPT. CONDITION CONFIRMED. OUR VEHICLE WAS COMPARED TO LIKE VEHICLES, YEAR 2000 & 2002. MFG STATED "OUR VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED." VEHICLE RELEASED WITH CONDITION UNREPAIRED & TRANSMISSION INOPERABLE IN D3, 2ND & 1ST DRIVE GEARS. PLEASE HELP! OUR VEHICLE IS NOT EVEN 1 YEAR OLD YET. IT ONLY HAS 13,500 MILES ON IT. 4. RIGHT/LEFT FRONT DOORS-VEHICLE HAD EXCESSIVE INTERNAL WIND NOISE @ HIGHWAY SPEEDS UNTIL BOTH FRONT DOOR WEATHER-STRIPS WERE REPLACED. 5. HOOD LATCH-COULD NOT OPEN HOOD ON VEHICLE TO REPLACE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID AFTER REPLACEMENT OF A/C COMPRESSOR & CONDENSER. HAD TO RETURN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP TO HAVE HOODLATCH REPLACED. 6. COOLANT SYSTEM-FLUID WAS DISSIPATING FROM COOLANT SYSTEM RESERVOIR. FOUR TIMES A HONDA REPRESENTITIVE HS STATED"IT'S NORMAL FOR ALL ODYSSEY'S TO DO THIS." FOUR REPAIR ATTEMPS WERE MADE BEFORE COOLANT LEAK WAS IDENTIFIED & RADIATOR HOSE WAS REPLACED. WHEN VEHICLE WAS RETURNED, CLIPS WERE MISSING FROM BOTTOM SPLASH SHIELD. THIS LEFT SPLASH SHIELD LOOSE, VIBRATING & AT RISK
I OWN A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE FIRST TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED WITH A REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION AT 86K MILES. IT WAS REPLACED "FREE OF CHARGE" UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE "NEW" TRANSMISSION WAS GUARANTEED FOR 1 YR OR 12K MILES. I COMMUNICATED MY FRUSTRATION WITH THE WARRANTY OF 100K ON THE FIRST TRANSMISSION AND ONLY 12K ON THE NEW/IMPROVED ONE? WHEN I SPOKE TO HONDA CENTRAL CUSTOMER SERVICE I WAS GIVEN THE BROKEN RECORD ABOUT THE 1 YR/12K MILE FREE REPLACEMENT. I STILL ATTEMPTED TO COMMUNICATE THAT IT IS NOT FAIR TO ASSURE THIS CUSTOMER THAT THE "NEW" TRANSMISSION WAS GUARANTEED FOR ONE YEAR AND I WANTED TO SPEAK TO THEIR SUPERVISOR. I WAS TOLD THAT THE BUCK STOPPED HERE AND THERE WAS NO HIGHER CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. AT THE TIME, I WAS FRUSTRATED BUT HAD NOWHERE TO TURN. THE DEALER GAVE ME THE HONDA CENTRAL CUSTOMER SERVICE REP AND THE CENTRAL REP PRETTY MUCH SHUT ME DOWN. LITTLE DID I KNOW AT THE TIME THAT MY NEW/IMPROVED REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION WOULD IN 35K MILES GO OUT AGAIN. THE TCS LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR AWHILE WITH THE EGR CODE AND THE 1559 CODE SHOWING. I SEE THERE IS AN ONGOING THEME BASED ON PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS. THIS IS THE SAME THING. THE VAN ROLLS WHEN I AM ON AN INCLINE WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. PLEASE DO SOMETHING, I CANNOT AFFORD A 5K REPLACEMENT AND CANNOT RISK DRIVING THIS VEHICLE ANY LONGER. MY WIFE IS USING THE VEHICLE TO TRANSPORT KIDS IN HER CHILDREN'S SERVICES JOB AND I WOULD HATE TO SEE SOMETHING HAPPEN AS A RESULT OF NEGLIGENCE ON THE PART OF THE MANUFACTURER. *NM
AT APPROXIMATELY 6,000 THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO EMIT A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHILE IN FOURTH GEAR TRAVELING AT 50 MILES PER HOUR AND ABOVE. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERESHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT, I WAS TOLD THEY COULD FIND NO NOISE. THE NOISE PERSISTED AND BECAME LOUDER. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP THE SECOND TIME AND POINTED OUT THE NOISE DURING A TEST DRIVE WITH SERVICE PERSONNEL, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION.*AK
2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. *SMD THE APPEARED TO BE A MINIMAL AMOUNT OF SPORADIC TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE BETWEEN THE 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. THE DEALER STATED THE SLIPPING WAS NORMAL, BECAUSE IT MEANT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE SERVICED. THE DEALER STATED THE FLUID REPLACEMENT, WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE SLIPPING PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SAME PROBLEM 20,000 MILES LATER, EXCEPT TO A GREATER DEGREE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHERE THEY STATED, THE TRANSMISSION WAS A CONCERN, AND THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO COVER A POSSIBLE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN FOR SERVICE PREVIOUSLY. HOWEVER, IT WASN'T AND THE WARRANTY HAD SINCE EXPIRED. *JB
I'VE CAME CLOSE 3 TIMES IN A CRASH BECAUSE I CANT SEE CARS COMING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE WHEN AT A STOP SIGN. I LOOK AND LOOK AND I THINK THERE NO CARS COMING BUT WHEN I PROCEEDED I CUT OFF THE ON COMING CAR BECAUSE I DIDNT SEE IT. HAS THERE BEEN OTHER PROBLEMS LIKE THIS BEFORE?.*AK

THIS HAPPENS MOSTLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED FROM A STANDSTILL TO MOVE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, FOR EXAMPLE. ONCE UNDERWAY, THE PROBLEM IS NO LONGER NOTICEABLE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A NORMAL OCCURANCE IN THIS VEHICLE AS IT WAS DESIGNED THAT WAY. HONDA SAYS THERE IS NO NEED FOR CONCERN. I FEEL THIS IS A CONCERN. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AFTER MANY MONTHS OF RESEARCH AND FEEL THAT I WAS NOT FULLY INFORMED BY THE LITERATURE THAT HAS BEEN PUBLISHED. NO WHERE WAS IT WRITTEN THAT THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURENCE IN THIS VEHICLE. HAD IT BEEN, I MAY HAVE CONSIDERED A DIFFERENT VEHICLE TO SUIT MY NEEDS. NO SAFETY DEFECT DESCRIBED. *AK

GASOLINE ODOR ENTERED THE PASSENGER CABIN WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE FUEL TANK SEAL, BUT THE PROBLEM CAME BACK TWO DAYS LATER. *AK

THE POWER SLIDING DOORS ON THIS VAN DO NOT STOP CLOSING VERY EASILY IF AN OBSTRUCTION (IE A PERSON) IS IN THE WAY. THE REMOTE DOOR OPEN/CLOSE IS VERY SENSITIVE AND EASILY TRIGERRED. THIS CAN HAPPEN WHILE SOMEONE IS IN THE WAY OF THE DOOR AND A SERIOUS INJURY COULD RESULT. THIS HAPPENED TODAY TO MY WIFE AND WHILE SHE WAS ONLY BRUISED FROM THE INCIDENT, IT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL IF ONE OF OUR SMALL CHILDREN WAS IN THE WAY OF THE DOOR. IF YOU TURN OFF THE POWER CLOSER, THE DOORS ARE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CLOSE BY HAND. I FEEL THAT, LIKE AUTOMATIC GARAGE DOORS, THESE DOORS SHOULD BE MUCH BETTER AT DETECTING OBSTRUCTIONS AND STOPPING ACCORDINGLY.*AK
INTERMITTENTLY BOTH SLIDING DOORS FAIL TO OPEN. BOTH DOORS HAVE CONTINUOUSLY BEEN REPAIRED. THE DEALER HASN'T BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER INDICATED HONDA IS AWARE. SLIDING DOOR HAD TOO MUCH RESISTANCE BEFORE DOOR RETRACTED BACK. DEALER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. CONSUMER WEIGHS 220 POUNDS , AND DOOR STARTED TO HURT BEFORE IT RETRACTED BACK. IF DOOR RETRACTED ON A SMALL CHILD IT COULD SERIOUSLY INJURE HIM/HER. *AK THE CONSUMER SAYS THE SLIDING DOORS SHOULD RETRACT WITH MUCH LESS RESISTANCE. *YH
TRANSMISSION FAILURE, SLIPPAGE MOST LIKELY BETWEEN SECOND AND THIRD GEAR. UNABLE TO DRIVE VEHICLE, STOPPED IN TRAFFIC.
I OWN A 2001 HONDA ODESSEY. 2 WEEKS AGO WHILE DRIVING THE VAN BEGAN SHIFTING HARD UP AND DOWN. IT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING. MY CHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR WITH ME AND I WENT TO TURN LEFT AND PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL DOWN TO GO BEFORE A CAR CAME AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD!! THEN THE CAR SUDDENLY SHIFTED SENDING US FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY. I DID NOT WANT TO CHANCE ANYTHING HAPPENING AND TOOK IT RIGHT INTO A TRANSMISSION PLACE. THEY TOLD ME THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REBUILT OR REPLACED. I WAS SURPRISED BECAUSE IT WAS SUCH A NEW CAR AND WAS SUPPOSED TO BE "RELIABLE" . ALSO, I HAD ANOTHER CAR WHERE THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND THE EFFECTS WERE NOT SO SUDDEN AND FREIGHTENING! I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WHEN I BEGAN TO RESEARCH MY PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRANSMISSION. I WAS EVEN MORE UPSET WHEN I CONTACTED HONDA AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL, ONLY A "GOODWILL" WARRANTY. THEN THEY TOLD ME THAT I COULD NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS WARRANTY BECAUSE MY CAR WAS INITALLY PURCHACED IN CANADA AND THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY. SHE PROCEDED TO TELL ME THAT THEY WILL ONLY FIX THE CAR IF THE NHTSA TELLS THEM THEY HAVE TO ISSUE A RECALL. I THOUGHT A HONDA WAS A HONDA. I AM EVEN MORE FRUSTRATED IN READING OTHER ACCOUNTS WHERE REPLACED AND REBUILT TRANSMISSIONS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. *AK

CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM FRONT END, SUSPENSION PARTS INSTALLED BUT VAN STILL HAD CLUNKING NOISE, ON 2/1/01 NOISE WAS FOUND TO BE CAUSED BY WELDING BREAKS IN THE FRONT SUB-FRAME. CJ
THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT HOLD THE POSITION OF THE VEHICLE. FOR EXAMPLE, IF I SHIFT INTO DRIVE, THE CAR CAN DRIFT BACKWARD, REQUIRING I USE THE BRAKES AND THE GAS AT THE SAME TIME TO AVOID HITTING SOMETHING BEHIND ME. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO DOES NOT SLOW THE CAR ON HILLS. IF I AM IN D1, THE CAR WILL FLY DOWN A HILL AS IF IT IS NOT IN ANY GEAR. THE HONDA DEALER INSISTS THIS IS NORMAL. I DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS ACCEPTABLE FOR YOUR SAFETY STANDARDS BUT IT IS DIFFICULT FOR ME TO DRIVE ON MOUNTAIN ROADS WITHOUT WEARING THE BREAKS OUT, AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR ME.
WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE STEERS TO RIGHT WHICH MAY CAUSE A LOSS OF CONTROL. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE CAUSE, BUT THERE IS A TSB ON THIS PROBLEM. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE DEALER PERFORMED REPAIR FOUR TIMES, BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED. *YH
TWO SLIDING DOORS OPERATE ERRATICALLY. TWO SLIDING DOORS WILL OPEN WITHOUT CONSUMER USING REMOTE KEY PAD. ALSO, DOORS WILL BEGIN TO CLOSE ON THEIR OWN. IN ADDITION, EXPERIENCES DIFFICULTY WHEN OPENING DOOR BECAUSE OF DOOR JAMMING/LOCKING. *AK BOTH THE SLIDING DOOR LATCHES WERE REPLACED ON WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM OCCURED AGAIN AND THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE OPEN/CLOSE SWITH AND ADJUST THE LEFT DOOR STRIKER. *YH

DEALER FOUND VEHICLE IS STALLING BECAUSE THERE IS INSUFFICIENT AIR FLOW CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION SYSTEM. HOWEVER, THERE WILL BE A DELAY ON REPAIRS DUE TO LACK OF PARTS. *TT
WITH VEHICLE STOPPED (AS AT A STOP SIGN OR AT A RED LIGHT), WHEN ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED, ENGINE REVS UP BUT VEHICHLE HESISTATES. THEN ,TRANSMISSION ENGAGES SUDDENLY AND VEHICHLE LURCHES FORWARD. THE INTENSITY WAS ANYWHERE FROM A MODERATE BUMP, TO ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE TIRES TO "SQUEAL" AND LOOSE TRACTION. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE WE GOT THE VEHICHLE TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE; WE JUST BEGAN TO DESCRIBE THE PROBLEM WHEN THEY SAID IT WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION, AS IF THEY HAD SEEN THE PROBLEM MANY TIMES BEFORE. WHEN QUESTIONED THEY DENIED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH ODYSSEY TRANSMISSIONS, ALTHOUGH THEY DID SAY THAT THEIR ODYSSEY SHUTTLEVAN (SAME YR/MODEL) HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED THE PRIOR WEEK. WHILE CONDUCTING A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET, WE FOUND DOZENS OF INSTANCES OF ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION FAILURES, ALL WITH REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AS THE REMEDY. WHILE IN OUR CASE THIS WAS DONE UNDER WARRANTY AT NO CHARGE, WE ARE CONCERNED THAT THIS IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM THAT CAN EASILY LEAD TO A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. *AK
