The contact owns a 2004 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the engine revved up high however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. Additionally, the contact stated that there was a burning odor coming from the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled over and waited for a while before restarting the vehicle and driving to the residence. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic nor a local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.
We were driving and was at a stop, when we went to go, our van wouldn't move. We shut it off then restarted it and it was ok for about a mile then started shaking a little & we could only go about 10 mph on a highway. We got home after it being off restarted it it goes into gear but won't go anywhere no warning lights came on at all we keep up on maintenance too.

ON 8/25/2016 I TOOK MY 2004 ODYSSEY TO ANDERSON HONDA AT PALO ALTO FOR NORMAL OIL CHANGE. AFTER THE WORK WAS DONE THEY SHOWED ME THAT THE OIL DRAIN PLUG WOULD NOT TORQUE DOWN TO SPECS (JUST SPINS). THE OIL WAS LEAKING FROM THE OIL PAN. ANDERSON HONDA'S SERVICE ADVISOR DENIED THAT THEY OVER-TORQUED THE PLUG. THE MILEAGE WAS ONLY 67637, THE PLUG HAD BEEN TAKEN OFF AND PUT ON FOR ONLY ABOUT A DOZEN TIMES AND IT'S THE ORIGINAL HONDA PART IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. BEFORE THE OIL CHANGE THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR AND DURING THE LAST TIME MAINTENANCE AT ANOTHER HONDA DEALER THE CAR WAS CHECKED WITH EVERYTHING OK. ON 8/29/2016 I TOOK MY CAR TO VICTORY HONDA AT SAN BRUNO TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE OIL PAN WAS REPLACED. THE OLD OIL PAN SHOWED THE SCREW IN THE OIL PAN WAS DAMAGED BY THE STEEL PLUG. THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM COULD BE: 1 ANDERSON HONDA'S TECHNICIAN OVER-TORQUED THE PLUG AND DAMAGED THE OIL PAN. BUT THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY ARE HONDA OFFICIAL DEALER AND THEY DIDN'T OVER-TORQUED IT. 2. HONDA'S PARTS OR DESIGNS HAVE DEFECT. THEY SHOULD NOT PUT STEEL PLUG ONTO A SOFT METAL PAN DIRECTLY. I THINK THE COST OF REPLACING DAMAGED OIL PAN SHOULD BE PAID EITHER BY ANDERSON HONDA OR HONDA OF AMERICA. THE CUSTOMER SHOULD NOT PAY FOR THEIR FAULT. I PURCHASED A HONDA ODYSSEY FROM A LOCAL HONDA DEALER MARCH 2012 WITH 122,000 MILES ON IT AND WHAT I WAS TOLD WAS A BRAND NEW TRANSMISSION. NOVEMBER 2014 I DROVE THE CAR TO MY GRANDMOTHERS HOUSE 5 HOURS AWAY FOR THANKSGIVING AND THE DAY AFTER THE RETURN TRIP THE CAR BEGAN SLIPPING GEARS. HONDA WANTS $5,100 TO FIX IT. THE TRANSMISSION THAT IS IN IT NOW IF THEY INDEED PUT A NEW ONE IN IT IS ONLY 2 1/2 YEARS OLD AND HAS 47,000 MILES ON IT!! THAT IS RIDICULOUS!! DRIVING 2004 ODYSSEY (140K MILES) DOWN I-95 IN RICHMOND (FROM NOVA) AND STARTED LOSING POWER (DROPPING SPEED WITH INCREASING RPMS). BAD SMELL AND SMOKE OUT THE BACK LED ME TO BELIEVE IT WAS MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. FOUND A SHOP THAT REPLACED THE CC. WHILE REPLACING THEY NOTICED LOTS OF OIL UNDER MY VEHICLE. TURNS OUT IT WAS TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE SHOP TOPPED OFF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID (4 QTS), LET IT RUN FOR A WHILE, DIDN'T SEE A LEAK, AND I DROVE OFF THE LOT. I NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON SO I RETURNED TO THE AUTO SHOP. THEY WERE HAVING TROUBLE ERASING THE ERROR CODE SO THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF SO THEY RECOMMENDED I HAVE IT FIXED WHEN I RETURNED HOME. I WAS ON MY WAY TO A NORTH CAROLINA BEACH WITH NO OTHER PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED (ALBEIT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL LIT). LOCAL DRIVING AT THE BEACH AT LOW SPEEDS (BELOW 40 MPH) CAUSED NO ISSUES. THE FOLLOWING WEEK ON MY WAY FROM THE NC BEACH TO NOVA, THE TCS LIGHT WAS NOW LIT (IN ADDITION TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT). WITHIN A FEW MILES I ENCOUNTERED A SIMILAR SITUATION WHILE HEADING NORTH ON I-95 (AS I DID THE WEEK BEFORE WHILE HEADING SOUTH ON I-95) THOUGH NOT AS SEVERE (SLIGHT DROP IN SPEED WITH INCREASING RPMS, BAD SMELL WITH SMOKE OUT THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE). I FOUND OUT THE NEXT DAY ABOUT THE HONDA ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. SOUNDS LIKE I WAS LUCKY TO GET 140K OUT OF IT, THOUGH NOT HAPPY TO HEAR ABOUT THE LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY TAKEN BY HONDA. THE MOTOR MOUNTS ON THIS VEHICLE HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THERE HAS BEEN A BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE UPON ACCELERATION FOR SOME TIME. I BROUGHT IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY ARE TELLING US THAT WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE MOTOR MOUNTS AT OVER $1000.00. HE HAS TOLD US THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL VEHICLE. WE HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND FOUND MANY OTHERS COMPLAINING TO YOU AND HONDA, AS WELL AS OTHER FORUM BOARDS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT IS BEING OVERLOOKED BY HONDA. MOTOR MOUNTS ARE NOT A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PART. THEY SHOULD NOT BE FAILING AT ALL. UPON LOOKING ON THE INTERNET, IT SEEMS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR HONDA ODYSSEYS AT ABOUT THAT MILEAGE AROUND THAT YEAR. WITH SO MANY WITH THE PROBLEM, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR

THE STORE OWNER ALSO MENTIONED THAT HE NOTICED A LOT OF OTHER HONDA ODYSSEYS HAVE THE SIMILAR PROBLEM. WE WENT ONLINE TO RESEARCH THE MATTER AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE ACTUALLY A LOT OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING SIMILAR ISSUE FROM OTHER HONDA ODYSSEY OWNERS PARTICULARLY FROM 2003 TO 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY.
