DRIVING CAR AND THE STEERING STARTED TO WHINE AND SCREECH VERY LOUDLY. TURNED WHEEL IN BOTH DIRECTIONS AND NOISE CONTINUED. SHUT CAR OFF AND STARTED AGAIN AND THE NOISE CONTINUED. WENT ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT A LOT OF 06' MODELS HAVE ISSUES WITH THE STEERING RESERVOIR DESIGN CHOKING THE STEERING MOTOR. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, 50K ON MY VAN, AND DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE TECH NEW IMMEDIATELY WHAT IS WAS AND SUGGESTED I REPLACE THE STEERING RESERVOIR SO HAS NOT DAMAGE THE MOTOR FURTHER AT IT WAS A $700 FIX VS $85. ASKED HOW COME THIS WAS NOT UNDER RECALL AS THE RESERVOIR HAD THREE (3) TECH BULLETINS ISSUED AND 3 REDESIGNS TO SOLVE THE STEERING PROBLEM. SAID TECH BULLETINS DON'T MEAN RECALLS AND I WAS OVER THE 36K WARRANTY SO I WAS ON MY OWN. I PAID FOR THE REPAIR AND THE NOISE STOPPED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE DRIVER SIDE ELECTRIC SLIDING DOOR FELL OFF OF THE HINGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE DOOR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND THAT THE CONTACT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COST. THE HONDA MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH THERE WAS A SOUND IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RESERVOIR WAS CLOGGED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
THE SUPPORTS FOR THE REAR LIFTGATE/HATCHBACK ON MY HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN FAILED CAUSING THE FULL WEIGHT OF THE REAR GATE TO STRIKE THE HEAD OF OUR 11-YEAR OLD CHILD. THE FAILURE OF THE REAR-GATE OCCURRED OCCASIONALLY AT FIRST CAUSING HEAD INJURIES TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY TO OTHERS UNEXPECTANT OF THE SUDDEN FAILURES. NOW, IT FAILS EVERYTIME THE GATE OR REAR HATCH BACK IS USED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR BUT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER OF A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND COMING TO A STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL FELL TO THE FLOOR SLIGHTLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER LOST PRESSURE WHICH CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR REPAIRS OF THE MASTER CYLINDER (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V504000 COMPONENT: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER) AND STATED THAT THE REPAIRS SHOULD INCLUDE REPLACING THE MASTER CYLINDER BRAKE PUMP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE WAS 78,000.
STEERING LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING RESULTING IN HEAD ON ACCIDENT. *TR
MY HONDA ODYSSEY HAS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT ASSOCIATED WITH THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. IT HAS AN INCONSISTENT BUZZ, WHINE, HUM THAT CAN BE HEARD PREDOMINANTLY AT LOWER SPEEDS. AT TIMES, THE STEERING BECOMES TIGHT MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STEER THE CAR. I HAVE READ ABOUT THE SERVICE BULLETINS: TSB 2007 FOR THE STEERING RESERVOIR, AND TSB 2010 FOR THE STEERING PUMP. I WILL BE CALLING THE LOCAL DEALER WITH HOPES OF CORRECTING A POOR DESIGN BY HONDA. *TR
PASSENGER DOOR SLIDER JAMS AND STICKS WHEN USING KEYLESS ENTRY. FIRST REPAIR 2009 @ 39000 MILES. ROLLERS REPLACED. THIS CAUSED PROBLEM TO WORSEN. MODESTO MISTLIN HONDA HAS NOT BEEN HELPFUL WITH THE ISSUE. *TR TOOK IT IN AGAIN DEC.21, 2009 AND SO ON... BEING THIS IS ONLY VEHICLE I HAD TO PUT UP WITH ISSUE. REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE REPEATEDLY WHICH HAS CAUSED PROBLEM TO BECOME WORSE. 2013 DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD! HAVE IT IN SHOP NOW IN FREMONT HONDA.
WHEN DRIVING IN COLD WEATHER FOR A LONG DISTANCE, WHEEZING SOUND COMES FROM STEERING WHEEL. OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM, THEY SAY IT'S A POWER STEERING PUMP, RESERVOIR TANK. IT ONLY HAS 57K MILES, AND ALREADY PROBLEMS. HONDA DEALER SAID THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THAT'S BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T DRIVE IT FOR A WHILE NOR WAS IT COLD. IT WON'T BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY SINCE IT'S PAST THE MILES, BUT HONDA MAKES A DEFECTIVE PART(S) AND THE OWNER HAS TO PAY FOR THEIR POOR ENGINEERING. *TR
THIS MAY NOT FALL UNDER SAFETY, BUT I WAS LOOKING FOR THE FORM TO FILE A RECALL INVESTIGATION. SORRY IF THIS IS WRONG. BUT COULD YOU PASS ALONG... I HAVE A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. MY WIRELESS HEADPHONES ARE PURE STATIC, NOT WORKING AT ALL. I AM ON MY 3RD STEREO WITH HONDA, AND NOW THE WARRANTY IS UP. I'VE FOUND OVER 1,000 OTHERS ONLINE THUS FAR WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. IT'S A PRETTY BIG FIX. I GUESS SOME DEALERS ARE NOT CHARGING FOR THE REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY SEE IT SO OFTEN, BUT MOST ARE. IT IS "THERE IS A MODULE THAT TAKES THE DVD AUDIO OUTPUT AND TRANSITS THE SIGNAL OVER INFRARED TO THE HEADPHONES. THIS INFRARED MODULE WAS THE PROBLEM." ANYWAY- I WOULD APPRECIATE A RECALL BEING INITIATED ON THIS, AS SO MANY ARE HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. I'VE HAD PROBLEMS BEFORE WITH THE 6 DISC CHANGER JUST QUITTING. AS I'M DRIVING IT STARTS RAPIDLY SPITTING OUT ALL 6 DISCS, WHICH TO ME IS A SAFETY DEAL. THAT WAS CHANGED OUT 2X, AND NOW- THIS. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH THIS. *TR
LOSS OF POWER STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS OR WHILE STANDING, MAKING IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER, PARTICULARLY IN AND OUT OF PARKING SPACES. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PARALLEL PARK ON A BUSY STREET, OR MERGE INTO BUSY TRAFFIC FROM A PARKING PLACE. *TR

HAD THE PS FLUID AND RESERVOIR REPLACED DEC12 2009 AND THE PROBLEM WAS TEMPORALLY SOLVED. NOISE AND STIFFNESS SOLVED BUT PROBLEM RETURNED NOV 21 2010. *TR

DEBRIS MUST HAVE HIT MY AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSER AND PUT A HOLE IN IT. ONLY 12,150 MILES ON IT AND JUST OUT OF WARRANTY BY 2 MONTHS. COST ME $1334 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. *TR
FOR 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH 60K MILES, 3RD ROW SEAT LATCH DOES NOT ENGAGE ALLOWING SEAT TO MOVE FREELY WHEN IN THE 'UNSTORED OR NORMAL POSITION.. POTENTIAL MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD IN THE EVENT OF ACCIDENT OR RAPID STOP. HONDA DEALER SAID THAT NO EXTENDED WARRANTY APPLIED ALTHOUGH I EXPECT THAT THE LATCH HAS BEEN ENGAGED NO MORE THAN 100 TIMES DURING LIFE OF VEHICLE. CURRENTLY 3RD SEAT UNUSABLE AND MUST BE STOWED FOR SAFE OPERATION. HIGH CONSUMER COST FOR REPLACEMENT SEAT OR 'REBUILD'. CURRENTLY IF I GRAB THE SEAT AND TORQUE SLIGHTLY I CAN GET THE LATCH TO ENGAGE, BUT THIS IS NOT AN AUTOMATIC PROCESS - THE SEAT WAS DESIGNED TO ENGAGE AUTOMATICALLY WHEN CONVERTING FROM STORED TO UPRIGHT, BUT WILL NOT WORK AUTOMATICALLY. THERE WAS NOT YET AN 'INCIDENT' AS A RESULT OF THIS DEFECT - ONLY THE POTENTIAL FOR SERIOUS INJURY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH WITH AN UNLATECHED SEAT. COST TO REPLACE SEAT MECHANISM QUOTED BY HONDA DEALER WAS $650 - PROHIBITIVE COST FOR US RIGHT NOW. *TR
POWER STEERING ON 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY FAILS AT LOW SPEEDS REQUIRING DRIVER TO QUICKLY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL MUCH HARDER THAN NORMAL IN ORDER TO TURN THE VEHICLE. *TR
I HAVE FOUND 1000+ PEOPLE WITH THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND YET CANNOT FIND THAT HONDA HAS DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE AUDIO FOR THE WIRELESS DVD INPUT STOPS AFTER 10 - 20 MINUTES OF WATCHING A DVD. IT JUST STARTS TO BUZZ AND FAILS TO WORK. I HAVE FOUND THREADS WHERE SOME HONDA DEALERSHIPS ARE NOT CHARGING FOR THE FIX WHILE OTHERS ARE. THE AUDIO WORKS ON THE WIRELESS HEADPHONES ON ALL OTHER INPUTS (AM/FM, CD, AUX) JUST NOT DVD. *TR
DURING 9/2009, I WAS INFORMED BY OTHER DRIVER'S OF MY HONDA ODYSSEY 2006 OF DIFFICULTY TURNING MY STEERING WHEEL AT LOW SPEEDS. I WONDERED ABOUT IT AND BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT I ALSO HAD DIFFICULTY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AT LOW SPEEDS ESPECIALLY WHILE ENTERING OR LEAVING A PARKING SPACE. IN 9/2011, I HAD THE STEERING EXAMINED AND WAS TOLD BY THE HONDA DEALERSHIP THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND IS INOPERABLE AT LOW SPEEDS. APPARENTLY, AMERICAN HONDA ISSUED A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THIS ISSUE OF WHICH I WAS NOT INFORMED. THIS WARRANTY EXTENDED THE TIME FRAME FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE POWER STEERING PUMP TO 100,000 MILES OR 7 YEARS. BY 2011, I HAD 160,602 MILES ON MY VEHICLE AND WAS CLOSER TO THE 100,000 MILE MARK BACK IN 2009. IN 2012, I WAS INFORMED BY ANOTHER CAR REPAIR SHOP OF THE WARRANTY EXTENSION WITH ENCOURAGEMENT TO CALL AMERICAN HONDA. I DID AND WAS TOLD THAT I DIDN'T QUALIFY, BUT COULD FIND DOCUMENT OF THE DIAGNOSIS AND CALL BACK. IN 2015, I FIND MY RECEIPT FROM HONDA DEALERSHIP FROM 9/2011 DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM. I CALL AMERICAN HONDA. THEIR REPRESENTATIVE IS POLITE, LISTENS TO MY STORY, PLACES ME ON HOLD THEN RETURNS TO THE LINE AND TELLS ME THAT THIS WILL STILL NOT BE COVERED. I HAVE BEEN "NEGLIGENT" SINCE NOT CONTACTING AMERICAN HONDA BACK AFTER MY FIRST CALL IN 2012 OR HAVING THE CAR REPAIRED FOR THIS ISSUE. OBVIOUSLY, I WANT AMERICAN HONDA TO ASSIST SINCE THIS IS NOT AN INEXPENSIVE REPAIR. I UNDERSTAND THEIR STANCE AND WISH THEY WERE MORE RESPONSIVE TO LOYAL CUSTOMERS. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE POWER STEERING PUMP NOT WORKING CORRECTLY, BUT HAVE WORRIED AT TIMES ESPECIALLY WHEN MAKING TURNS AND BACKING OUT OF SPACES. THROUGH THIS COMPLAINT, I AM HOPING THAT FURTHER INVESTIGATION MIGHT OCCUR WHICH WILL CAUSE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE POWER STEERING PUMP TO BECOME A RECALL VERSUS A WARRANTY EXTENSION.
HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE SINCE NEW (JULY 2006). VEHICLE/STEERING/WHEELS EXPERIENCE SIGNIFICANT VIBRATION AT 65 TO 70MPH. HAVE CHANGED TIRES, ALL SUSPENSION PARTS AND NOTHING SEEMS TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. BEEN GOING ON SINCE VEHICLE WAS NEW. HAVE BEEN TO DEALERSHIP MANY MANY TIMES AND SPENT A LOT OF MONEY BASED ON DEALERSHIP SERVICE RECOMMENDATION BUT STILL PROBLEM PERSISTS. THIS VEHICLE IS DEFECTIVE AND HONDA NEEDS TO ISSUE RECALL FOR THIS GENERATION OF ODYSSEYS AS I HAVE READ ABOUT THIS ISSUE WITH MANY OWNERS OF THIS SAME TYPE VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, SHE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SURGE FORWARD. SHE TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES BUT THEY DID NOT ENGAGE AND SHE CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE THAT WAS IN FRONT OF HER. THERE WERE NO INJURIES BUT A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 57,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED AS HE WAS DRIVING APPROX. 10 TO 15 MPH, HE COULD TURN THE STEERING WHEEL BUT HE HAD TO FORCE IT TO TURN. NO WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THERE WAS A NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS TOLD TO REPLACE THE STEERING PUMP AND THE RESERVOIR WHICH WILL COST $800 FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT TOLD THE DEALER HE WAS NOT WILLING TO PAY THAT EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AT LEAST THREE TIMES BUT STATED THE MILEAGE WAS OVER THE WARRANTY AND THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
SOFT BRAKE PEDAL ON 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY, AS DOCUMENTED IN INVESTIGATION # PE09024. *TR
WHEN THE CAR CAME TO A HARD STOP, THE BRAKE MADE A CRAKING SOUND. ONCE THIS HAPPENNED, IT CONTINUED EVERYTIME THE BRAKE WAS USED. THE BRAKE DID NOT WORK AS GOOD AS IT DID BEFORE, I CAN NOTICE IT TOOK LONGER TO STOP. AT THE DEALERSHIP, DRUM SURFACE WAS RECODED. THE VAN HAD 3/4 OF THE BRAKE LEFT AND THE DRUM JUST NEEDED A RESURFACING CODING... IT ONLY TAKES ONE HARD BRAKE FOR THE PROBLEM TO COME BACK ALL OVER AGAIN. ONCE BACK THE BRAKE DOES NOT HOLDS ON THE TIRE LIKE IT DID PREVIOUSLY. I HAVE GONE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY TOLD ME THE ODDESSY HAS A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE AND IT IS VERY COMMON BETWEEN ODDESSY DRIVES. THE PROBLEM KEEPES COMING BACK, AND IT DOES NOT MAKE ME ANY SAFER BECAUSE IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE ODDESSY DRIVERS. *CN
WHEN DRIVING MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY AT SPEEDS UNDER 10 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL IS EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER. WHEN DRIVING ABOVE THIS SPEED, THE STEERING SEEMS TO BE FUNCTION PROPERLY. *TR
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L, STEERING WHEEL AT LOW SPEEDS FREEZE AND DOES NOT TURN IN ANY DIRECTION. IT HAPPENS VERY OFTEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THERE IS SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC, IN A PARKING LOT AND REVERSING. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER WHO WANTED 600 TO FIX THIS ISSUE AS BEING STEERING PUMP RELATED ISSUE. WE HAD AN EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN IN WHICH THE DEALER DID A POWER STEERING FLUSH THAT DID NOT HELP AT ALL. WE WEN TO THE DEALER WITH THIS ISSUE AFTER ABOUT 1 YEAR LATTER AND SINCE THEN THERE WAS NOTHING DONE REGARDING THIS. RECENTLY OUR HONDA WARRANTY EXPIRED IN JULY 2009 AND THE MILES ON THE CAR ARE ABOUT 35K. ALL THESE DAYS WE WERE ABLE TO ATLEAST NAVIGATE THE WHEEL EVEN IT WAS TIGHT BUT RECENTLY SINCE LAST 1 MONTH THE CAR ON SLOW SPEEDS OR ON NEUTRAL DOES NOT TURN THE WHEEL AT ALL. I REQUEST NHTSA TO PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE WITH HONDA VANS. I SPOKE TO SEVERAL PEOPLE AND COUPLE OF THEM DID MENTION THIS SAME PROBLEM. I FEEL VERY UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE PROBLEM. WHEN I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER HE AVOIDED UNTIL THE WARRANTY IS OVER AND NOW IS TRYING TO CHEAT US. *TR
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY VEHICLE WAS SMOKING UPON ARRIVING AT DESTINATION. THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT OF VAN, ODOR PRESENT. TWO DAYS LATER, AIR CONDITIONING WAS NOT WORKING. TOOK VAN TO DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THAT A ROCK MUST HAVE HIT THE CONDENSER. THEY SAID THIS IS NOT COVERED BY MY 60,000 MILE HONDA CARE WARRANTY BECAUSE IT WASN'T MECHANICAL. THERE ARE PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS, EVEN THE DEALER SAID THIS IS VERY COMMON WITH THE ODYSSEY. SOUNDS LIKE A DESIGN FLAW & A RECALL IS DUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, SHE NOTICED IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL AND PARK THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC CLEANED THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR; HOWEVER, THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT SOMEONE WOULD CALL THE CONTACT IN REFERENCE TO THE FAILURE. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST WAS $600.00. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
TRANSMISSION FAILED AT LESS THAN 80,000 MILES. WHILE TRAVELING AT 60+ MPH TRANSMISSION SMOKES, FLUID SPEWS FROM TAILPIPE AND FRONT, GEARS RACE AND VEHICLE BECOMES UNABLE TO CONTROL IN TRAFFIC. VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOPS, MUST BE ALLOWED TO COOL DOWN BEFORE IT CAN BE RESTARTED. GEARS SOMETIME LOCK CAUSING INABILITY TO STEER. OCCURS OCCASIONALLY AT 80,000-90,000, MORE FREQUENTLY AT 90,000 MILES. DEFECT IN TORQUE CONVERTER APPARENTLY CAUSES FLUID TO BOIL INSIDE TRANSMISSION, CAUSES DAMAGE TO GEARS, SMOKING, ETC.. ONLY FIX IS A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. *TR

THESE TIRES POSE A SERIOUS SAFETY THREAT BECAUSE OF ULTRA-PREMATURE TREAD WEAR, AND THE FACT THAT A DIFFERENT TYPE OF TIRE CANNOT BE USED ON THE VEHICLE.
