I am reporting a recurring and dangerous brake system failure in my 2010 Honda Odyssey. Intermittently, when the vehicle is first started, the brake pedal becomes completely stiff and cannot be depressed at all. During these events, the brakes are effectively non-functional until the condition resolves, creating a serious safety hazard. This issue occurs without warning and has happened on multiple occasions. This defect is especially dangerous because it prevents normal braking operation at startup, increasing the risk of a collision if the vehicle is moved or if immediate braking is required. I have attempted to repair this issue extensively. The vehicle has been inspected by three separate repair facilities, including a Honda dealership. The following components have been replaced in an effort to resolve the problem: •Master cylinder •Brake booster •Rotors •Brake lines •ABS system Despite these repairs, the issue persists unchanged. I have spent over $2,500 attempting to fix what appears to be a systemic defect. The Honda dealership suggested the issue may be caused by air entering the brake lines when the vehicle is parked on a slope. However, this explanation is not consistent with normal automotive function, and similar vehicles do not exhibit this behavior under the same conditions. Given the repeated failure of major brake system components to resolve the issue, I believe this represents a defect in the vehicle’s braking system that could affect other vehicles of the same model. I am submitting this complaint due to the serious safety risk posed by intermittent loss of braking function and request that this issue be investigated.
The fuel pump as been failing and caused issues
For the second time in less than 4 months my rear window has exploded into thousands of pieces. The broken bits explode everywhere. First time was 1.15.25. Second time was 5.3.25.I was parked both times. I had other windows/doors either cracked or open. Both times was during 20mph winds.
A few months ago, the battery went dead. I purchased a new battery and it went dead also. I had the mechanic check it and he said that some Honda Odyssey's had that problem (usually 2011). Even if everything is turned off, the battery will die in less than two days if the van is not driven. This has led to the van being inoperable in various locations requiring a locksmith to come open the car so the hood can be opened so the the battery can be recharged. The mechanic spent a few hours and was able to pinpoint the "faulty" fuse(Driver's side, #7, 7.5A, "backup"), but said that there were 13 different subsystems associated with that fuse and that it would take many hours to isolate and test each individual subsystem which would cost many thousands of dollars--more than the car is considered to be worth. So he recommended that I just either drive it every day or pull the fuse at night. In addition to the battery going dead, one of the problems, is that I don't feel safe to lock the car because I know I won't be able to unlock it if the battery dies.
See attached document for complaint.
The incidents of sudden acceleration while braking on this model are vast. My van has experienced several sudden un-commanded acceleration incidents while braking starting in 2022. Honda lawyers are in control and thus no technical explanation. My last event was on [XXX] post hurricane Helene in Asheville N.C. The response of the NHTSA is needed due to people of modest means need to keep their car as long as possible. This requires honest service information from Honda. Honda has reaped a well deserved dividend cultivating the belief that their product with careful use can last 20 years or more. Honda does not deserve to reap this benefit while failing to execute an honest service which creates an unsafe vehicle. In 2023 the Throttle Position Sensor and its complete assembly was replaced in hope of a resolution. I will now replace the Engine Control CPU after the [XXX] incident. These repairs and expense are un-diagnosed non-OBD supported “shots in the dark” because Honda will not recognize the failure. The contact owns a 2010 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving or parked, there was a strong fuel odor coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel pump and the fuel tank needed to be replaced due to a leak in the fuel tank. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 66,000.
It started with the alarm turning on randomly. DRL not turning off and battery got drained.
Passenger side sliding door jammed halfway open and would not close or open. Had to have the car towed to the mechanic and have all components of sliding door replaced (twice!). Driver's side strut spring broke under normal use - with 62000 miles on the vehicle. Now rear backup camera/GPS/radio unit has ceased working at all. Passenger side door also randomly begins to close part way through opening, nearly injuring my child's friend who was exiting the vehicle.
Yesterday(7/9/23) when trying to open and close our back sliding door on the drivers side it was making a louder grinding sound and was difficult to open/shut. No warning lights. Today when pushing the button to open the door it started to open and then fell off the frame on the top and mid rail. Only connected by the bottom rail. It appears that the mid rail/ slider is the part that failed causing the door to come off its hinges. It also caused large deep scratches to the body of the car. This is a serious safety concern. The door is heavy and could have hurt someone. We are very lucky that my kids were still strapped safely in their car seats. We strapped the door to the car in an open position and have not gotten it inspected yet. Upon researching I have now seen hundreds of reports of this same thing happening to others.
The driver side passenger sliding automatic door stopped working. When opening it manually I started hearing a little grinding noise and it was hard to open. I opened the door to put my daughter in and the door fell off to the ground.
Van sliding door fell off when trying to close the door.
DEATH TRAP Front windows open and close by themselves while driving - dangerous for kids and pets in car Sliding doors on both sides do not work properly - do not latch - passenger door doesn't slide open or closed Door locks unresponsive - last week only driver's door and tail gate would unlock and open
Hello yes this has been happening since May2022,,sometimes my sliding door will open then shut while someone is trying to get in,or it won't shut it will close the Open right back up while driving or sitting, so several times either my children or my grandmother was getting in after I opened the sliding door, an all of a sudden it almost smashed my 3 yr old she jumped in so fast it almost caught her leg, an the same thing with my grandmother, she was getting in an it shut without me closing it,an 1 day we was on the highway and the driver side opened automatically I had to pull over to the side of highway and it wouldn't shut after 10 tries, I had to actually grab the handle an pull it shut. An I asked a dealership about this and he said numerous of people have been complaining about this problem with Honda vans.
I opened the sliding door for my 5 yr old grandson, and while he was getting in the sliding door Opened and shut while he was getting in an almost closed him in by squeezed him alil I had to push the button instantly to open back up.an it happened when we was at the zoo also it Opened half way an was closing on its own
the air bag light is on and the tire pressure sensor on.
We had driven less than half a mile, and we’re sitting in traffic to turn when all of the warning lights came on and the van shut off. We restarted the car and the same thing happened. Then there was a popping noise and smoke began coming from under the hood. Within 2 minutes the van caught on fire. The entire engine compartment burned, as did the windshield and part of the dashboard.
My car self-combusted and caught fire while parked in my driveway. The fire started in the hood of the car and continued for 30 minutes or so despite my best efforts to put out with my hose. The fire department had to come to put out the fire. The car was parked for 90 minutes from last usage and no one was in the car. The temperature outside was around 80 degrees. This is potentially a huge safety risk for Odyssey owners. The car had 124k miles on it and had done the full 120k maintenance service at Honda dealer (Honda of Kirkland). The car was serviced per regular maintenance schedule by the Honda dealer. Hard to believe a car will go up in flames on my driveway like that. See pictures. Fire department was from Eastside Fire Station 33. Captain Kurt McGowan. Fire witnessed by many of my neighbors who also tried to help me put out the fire before fire truck came.
On 6/12/2022, minutes after exiting 45 miles of highway driving, I parked the car. Less than 90 seconds after parking, the left front tire experienced an explosive loss of air pressure. An approx 2" x 1-1/2" piece of the sidewall near the tread was missing, and the reinforcing belt inside the tire was torn. It was the inside (engine side) sidewall. There was no apparent damage from any road hazard that could have contributed to the failure. Could not find the missing sidewall section. The General Altimax 235/65R16 103T tires were purchased new on 6/1/2022 with 200,583 miles on the vehicle. Failure occurred at 217,525 miles. The tire was replaced by the original seller (Belle Tire, New Hudson, MI), who now have the tire. They also inspected for previous damage and found none. Availability for inspection unknown. Belle Tire reps indicate that this is a very unusual failure and will be reporting to manufacturer. No other entities have inspected the failed tire. No warnings/symptoms present prior to the explosion. The DOT number on the failed tire is 6546 WBMH. It is notable that the other 3 identical tires on the vehicle have four additional digits (e.g. 6546 WMBH 0421) following the letter code, which Belle Tire said was the manufacture date of the tire. (0421 would be the 4th week of 2021). The failed tire lacked this information. Obviously, my wife and I were very lucky that this failure did not occur while driving on the highway as it almost certainly would have resulted in a loss of control at high speed.
My back passenger door thr sliding one came off the hinge. Door completely came out as I was opening it to drop my.kids off to.school. Now my kids are afraid to sit near that door. Quotes that I am receiving are insane on the price. Any recalls?
The driver's side & passanger side rear sliding doors develop a parasitic battery drain which forces owners to remove the fuse associated with the doors. Those doors are very difficult to open when not powered. This essentially traps children in the back seats. Honda knows about this issue with all the odyssey models and they have not issued a recall.
My 2010 Honda odyssey is accelerating while breaking. Both times I am trying to slow down and stop at red traffic light, and both times, it initially slowed down but accelerated all of sudden. I had to shift to P before it finally stopped.
Honda service bulletin [XXX] I recently discovered after doing some research on why my 2010 Odyssey is showing cylinder1 misfire code. I replaced the injectors, swapped coil packs, etc. Still cylinder1 misfire issue. Now I find out that Honda is aware of this issue and related to VCM and some rings on piston(s) aligning. Fortunately for Honda, the 8 years unlimited miles is most likely out of a window where statistically the issue will be seen. That is my case. Sept 25, 2021 is when this first started, and has continued to be an issue. I never received notice from Honda since this is a used van. Anyway, I would like some assistance in rectifying this issue for our family van. My local Honda dealer is not even remotely interested in repairing the issue based on [XXX] because of the 8 year extended warranty is no longer applicable. I need help from Honda NA. If you know there is an issue with ring alignment, extending this for 8 years doesn't seem like you are capturing the majority of the problems; most likely a calculated risk... My Odyssey didn't show the issue until 11 years after the 2010 manufacturing date... fortunate for Honda. I need help from Honda on this, even to meet me 1/2 way to cover repair costs. This seems unacceptable to me that an issue as serious as this, known by Honda, and won't be addressed. Please help. Thank you, [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The drivers side sliding door fell off upon opening. Honda says they are not liable for this issue yet I have found over 5,000 complaints in various fourms concerning this issue. My children were almost injured and something needs to be done about this issue please.

The Honda Odyssey I own has paint coming out from the roof and tail. Looking around on the road, I saw many other white Honda Odyssey with similar problems. When doing a search on the web, I saw the recall notice for Honda Odyssey 2011-12. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10161239-0001.pdf My Honda Odyssey is a 2010 model but with same color and similar problems with exterior paint. This would result in corrosion and ultimately the safety of the vehicle. I am attaching the pictures of my vehicle. I did contact Honda and they advised me to get the vehicle inspected at their service center. I am scheduled to visit them for diagnosis soon, but wanted to share what I found as there recall with 2011-12 is something that clearly extends to other years model as well.

KEEP GETTING A CYLINDER 3 MISFIRE AND LEAKING VALUES.
ENGINE LIGHT AND USING OIL. CODES P3497 AND P3400. ENGINE OIL PUMP OUTPUTS HIGH OIL PRESSURE CAUSING CYLINDER PAUSE MODE. VEHICLE IN MOTION. SAME PROBLEM AS SERVICE BULLETIN 13-055 WITH 2013 ODYSSEY.
MY STEERING WHEEL WAS HARD TO STEER AT TIMES. MOSTLY IT FELT LIKE IT WOULD LOCK-UP ON ITS OWN. DURING DRIVING. WHENEVER I NOTICE A FLUID LEAK IN MY DRIVEWAY. I CONTACT MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP. CAUSE I PURCHASED THE CAR JUNE 12, 2020.I HAD PURCHASED EXTENDED WARRANTY, TO HELP PAY FOR REPAIRS. HONDA DEALERSHIP HAD TO REPLACE FACTORY POWER STEERING PUMP AND POWER-STEERING HIGH PRESSURE HOSE. WHICH COST ME OUT OF POCKET OF $ 1,365.03. THIS ITEM WAS NOT COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP, WHEN PURCHASED IN 2010, THERE WAS A RE-CALL ON THIS ITEM.
BOTH SLIDING DOORS ARE GETTING STUCK WHILE OPENING AND CLOSING. AND THEY ARE MAKING NOISE TOO.
THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR (MANUAL DOOR, NOT POWER) WAS MAKING A GRINDING SOUND WHEN OPENING AND THEN IT FELL OFF THE CAR. I WAS OPENING THE DOOR TO GET MY CHILD OUT, THANKFULLY, WE WERE AT HOME.
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2010 HONDA ODYSSEY LX, . TWO OF THE TPMS TRANSMITTERS ARE NOW LEAKING AROUND THE STEM, CAUSING LOW TIRE PRESSURE. IS THERE A RECALL OF THESE TRANSMITTERS? THE INFORMATION ON THE TRANSMITTERS FROM ONE THAT WAS REPLACED IS: TRW 42753-SHJ-A820-M1 315 MHZ 217652-110 >PPA-GF33< 8D06923A 2399T IT IS VERY CONCERNING THAT A DEVICE MEANT TO WARN OF A HAZARD IS ACTUALLY CAUSING A HAZARD, ESPECIALLY SINCE WE ARE FORCED TO HAVE THESE DEVICES ON OUR CARS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HIS WIFE WAS DRIVING A BURNING ODOR WAS PRESENT. AFTER PARKING AND EXITING THE VEHICLE SMOKE AND FLAMES WERE PRESENT COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. DURING THE INCIDENT, THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A FIRE REPORT WAS TAKEN AT THE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AWAY. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000. *BF*JB
2010 ODYSSEY W/ ABOUT 70K MILES. ENGINE STARTED MISFIRING. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS, BUT HONDA IS SAYING IT EXPIRED, AND I AM NOT ELIGIBLE FOR COST COVERAGE, AND THE REPAIRS ONLY HAVE A 50% CHANCE OF FIXING THE ISSUE. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN 2019, AND THEY SAY THE RECALL EXPIRED 8 YEARS AFTER MAKE YEAR. I WAS DRIVING MY FAMILY TO THE BEACH AND IT BEGAN STRUGGLING TO ACCELERATE. WHITE SMOKE WAS COMING OUT EXHAUST. *TR
PAINT FLAKING. PAINT DID NOT ADHERE TO PRIMER
Power sliding doors stopped working. No access to middle row seats due to having no manual opening features. In an emergency, I would be unable to remove my children from their seats. This should be recalled immediately before someone becomes trapped in this car.
GAS TANK IS LEAKING WHEN TANK IS FULL OF GAS FROM THE TOP OF THE TANK WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED
2010 ODYSSEY W/ ABOUT 159K MILES. ENGINE STARTED MISFIRING. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS, BUT HONDA IS SAYING IT EXPIRED, AND I AM NOT ELIGIBLE FOR COST COVERAGE, AND THE REPAIRS ONLY HAVE A 50% CHANCE OF FIXING THE ISSUE. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN 2016, AND THEY SAY THE RECALL EXPIRED AFTER MAKE YEAR. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO WORK AND IT LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND WHITE SMOKE WAS COMING OUT EXHAUST. AND THE BELT SNAPPED AND IT HAS BEEN PARKED SINCE EARLY FEBRUARY.
THE CAR IS CURRENTLY REGISTERING INDIVIDUAL CYLINDER AND MULTIPLE RANDOM CYLINDER MISFIRES. WHEN STARTING- THE ENGINE WILL VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME THEN WILL EVEN OUT AND RUN NORMALLY. AT IDLE, THE ENGINE WILL EXPERIENCE MILDLY EXCESSIVE VIBRATION. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO SEVERAL REPAIR SHOPS AND HAVE REPLACED COILS AND SPARK PLUGS. ONE REPAIR SHOP MENTIONED A VALVE TIMING CONTROL CODE ON THEIR DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT. I TOOK THE CAR TO AN OFFICIAL DEALER FOR THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY DID NOT IDENTIFY THIS CODE. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT A VALVE ADJUSTMENT WAS NEEDED. I THEN RETRIEVED THE CAR AND HAD AN ALTERNATE DEALER FOR THE MANUFACTURER DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. THIS SECOND DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT ALSO INDICATED THAT A VALVE ADJUSTMENT WAS NEEDED. THE VALVE ADJUSTMENT REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE CAR DROVE NORMALLY FOR A FEW DAYS THEN BEGAN REAND AN GULAR MODERATE TO HEAVY VIBRATION, THE 'CHECK ENGINE' LIGHT FLASHED ON AND OFF THEN EVENTUALLY STAYED ON CONTINUOUSLY. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHO HAD DONE THE VALVE ADJUSTMENT AND THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE CAR ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED OR THAT BOTH HEAD GASKETS NEED TO BE REPLACED. I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST THIS MANUFACTURER RELATED TO VALVE TIMING CONTROL PROBLEMS LEADING TO CYLINDER MISFIRES AND ENGINE FAILURE WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OFFERED AS A RESULT. I CALLED THE NATIONAL CORPORATE OFFICES AND INQUIRED IF THIS WARRANTY APPLIED TO MY VEHICLE. THEY ADVISED THAT THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY RELATED TO THE ISSUES I HAD DESCRIBED BUT THAT THE VIN FOR MY VEHICLE WAS NOT LISTED AMONG THE WARRANTED VEHICLES. I WAS TOLD MY ONLY OPTION WOULD BE TO FILE A COMPLAINT TO SEE IF THE NHSTA COULD REQUIRE THE MANUFACTURER TO INCLUDE MY VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY FOR REPAIR AS THE WARRANTY RESULTED FROM A LAWSUIT RELATED TO A KNOWN DESIGN ISSUE WITH THE CAR.
HAVE HAD INTERMITTENT ISSUE WITH THE AUTOMATIC FEATURE NOT BEING ABLE TO FULLY CLOSE THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. TODAY, I TRIED TO OPEN IT BUT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WAS MAKING GRINDING NOISE AND ONLY OPENING 1/3 OF THE WAY ON THE AUTOMATIC SETTING. I DISENGAGED THE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR FUNCTION AND OPENED IT MANUALLY. SLID OPEN NO PROBLEM. I REENGAGED THE AUTO SETTING WHEN I WENT TO CLOSE THE DOOR. IT STARTED TO SLIDE CLOSE AND A LITTLE LESS THAN HALF WAY, IT FELL AT ME, COMING COMPLETELY OFF THE CAR OTHER THAN A SMALL GUIDE WIRE IN THE CENTER. I CAN NOT GET IT BACK INTO PLACE AND AM LOOKING INTO GETTING IT TOWED TO BE REPAIRED. WHEN THE CENTER ROLLER CAME OFF THE TRACK IT LEFT GIGANTIC GASHES IN THE PAINT/METAL ON THE SIDE OF THE VAN.
VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED WHILE BRAKING. ACCELERATION CONTINUED AFTER VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP. THIS HAPPENED 3 OR 4 TIMES IN A SPAN OF 30 MINUTES. FOOT WAS NOT ON ACCELERATOR. DRIVEN BY ADULT MALE.
VAN WILL START PERIODICALLY. BUT THE NEXT DAY THE BATTERY WILL BE DEAD & HAS BEEN JUMPED OFF WITH JUMP BOX & OTHER VEHICLES ASSIST. BUT BATTERY IS NEW, TERMINALS CLEANED. VAN WILL NOT EVEN MAKE A CLICKING SOUND. I FEEL THAT THERE IS EVIDENCE OF FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH, STARTER RELAY OR PARKED/NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH & MAYBE MORE DEPENDING ON CHASSIS ELECTRICAL. THE VEHICLE IS ALSO STATIONARY UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING.THIS HAPPENS TO BE MY WIFE'S VEHICLE... NEED THIS FIXED ASAP..
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, DRIVER PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL AND THE ENGINE REGAINED POWER, IT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT.
THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND THE VEHICLE STARTED JERKING. I RUSHED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS MISFIRING AND THEY HAD TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE, REPLACE THE SPARK PLUGS. THEY ALSO INFORMED THAT THE PISTON RINGS WERE LEAKING AND SOME OF THE ENGINE OIL WAS BURNT, I ALSO HEARD THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE ON THIS VEHICLE THAT OTHERS HAD FACED, A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT HAD BEEN FILED WHERE HONDA HAD PROVIDED A WARRANTY EXTENSION AND NOT A RECALL, SO THE ISSUE WILL HAVE TO BE HANDLED BY ME. I WAS WORRIED ABOUT MY FAMILY'S SAFETY AND HONDA WAS NOT READY TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE.
THE SIDE DOORS FELL OFF THE TRACK. BOTH OF THEM WITHIN DAYS. ONE WHEN OPENING IT AND THE OTHER DRIVING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY. I'M JUST GLAD IT DIDNT HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE THAT SERIOUSLY COULD HAVE HURT SOMEONE. I LOOKED THIS ISSUE UP AND FOUND IT IS VERY COMMON ON THESE VAN'S AND A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS HAPPEN. ONE DOOR IS NOW HELD ON WITH A STRAP AND THE OTHER ONE WE GOT CLOSED AND BACK ON BUT WE CANNOT OPEN THEM. MY KIDS HAVE TO CLIMB OVER THE FRONT SEATS TO GET TO THEIR SEATS. I AM VERY WORRIED THEY WILL FLY OFF DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY LIKE I'VE READ OTHERS HAVE. THE SIDE OF MY VAN IS ALL SCRATCHED UP FROM THEM FALLING OFF TOO.
