Water is pooling in trunk of van. There appears to be a failed body weld or seam sealant in the trunk area. Vehicle has not been in any incidents since purchased new. Spoke to a service adviser for Honda and they indicated a seam sealant may have failed as well. Have searched internet and found this is occurring frequently with this model.
Both rear power sliding doors on my 2019 Honda Odyssey failed at approximately 74,000 miles. The sliding door motors can be heard running, but the doors do not move and cannot be opened normally. The doors are available for inspection upon request. This failure prevents rear passengers from safely exiting the vehicle. In an emergency situation, this could prevent evacuation and creates a serious safety risk, especially when transporting children or passengers seated in the rear. A dashboard warning message related to the sliding doors appeared at the time of failure. The condition occurs consistently on both doors. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Honda dealer, who confirmed a malfunction in the sliding door system and provided a repair estimate. The vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives. This appears to be a significant sliding door system failure affecting both rear doors simultaneously.
My driver sliding door will not open or close manually or automatically. This is concerning because if I was to ever get in a wreck and my van was struck on the passenger side, we wouldn’t be able to get out of the car because the other door won’t open. I did see that 107,000 vehicles were recalled due to this same problem I’m having. Obviously looking online, this is affecting more than 107,000… I already had to fix my passenger sliding door due to a faulty sensor. What next?
The power sliding door on the driver’s side failed and will not open, even manually. The mechanism engages and stops after about an inch. This creates a significant safety risk because passengers cannot exit through the door in an emergency. This appears to be a widespread defect in 2018–2020 Honda Odyssey models. Repair cost is approximately $1,000. Honda needs to address this as a safety issue.
The rear power liftgate on our 2019 Honda Odyssey has repeatedly closed automatically while the vehicle is parked on a slope, including our driveway. This has occurred multiple times, and in one instance, the door struck me on the head. The issue seems to be gravity-related and may involve a malfunction in the tailgate spring or motor system. I reported this to the dealership, and they were unable to replicate the issue. However, I have video evidence and found that Honda issued Service Bulletin 22-018, which may be related. The dealership has not confirmed whether this bulletin applies to our vehicle. This is a serious safety concern, especially for families with children or elderly passengers. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether this issue is widespread and whether a recall or further guidance is warranted.
The car is 2019 and has about 23k miles and the tailgate malfunctioned and is completely inoperable. Based on my visit to the Lou Sobh Honda dealer in Cumming, GA, I was told that there is a crack in the body that needs to be sealed and water from there caused the control board to be exposed and get "fried". this is not something I would expect to have a warranty. At least there should be some responsibility to get this fixed, first time for free or whatever. If the diagnostics is replacing tailgate module and reseal, I feel Honda should take some ownership on this. I have read online that many drivers have the same issue. When asked to Honda customer service, I was told there is "No campaign". If there is none, I want to create one. Have to spend 1000$s on a repair that has nothing to do with my driving or care is meaningless.
The power tail gate stopped working on 1/28/2025. After diagnosis the power tail gate and it's controls on passenger side rear control panel it is observed that there is water on the controls module. Part 74970-THR-A12Control Module for tailgate has been taken out and found that the water coming though it's sockets. The $200 new control module will temporarily fix the issue but the defective rear body seam seals made of polyurethane that allow water to leak into the rear driver’s side panels can cause the following issues. The tailgate opens and closes at random, The tailgate stays open or fails to close, Tailgate short circuits and causes a fire, Water leaks cause mold and rusting. I request Honda to take responsibility of the issue and fix the problem making sure it meet the safety standards.
The driver’s side sliding door suddenly ceased operating in October 2024. It will sometimes open halfway or partially close, but on most attempts will only open about an inch. It works manually, but is very hard to pull.
The power tailgate would open, then after opening, the tailgate may slowly sag down. Then it automatically closes within seconds. When going down to close, it beeps loudly.
Both sliding doors fail to stay latched. Taking a turn or hitting a bump will cause them to open. The warning alarm beeps constantly unless I turn off power doors switch. This is a constant situation.
Driver side, passenger sliding door does not properly close at times. When closing, it seems the sensor is sensing blockage and will not shut fully but re-opens the door again and again. It will mentally close after the 4th or 5th time. I typically will have to get out and manually push the sliding door shut. This happens at least a few times a week. I have noticed it around summer of 2024. It is especially concerning when trying to load kids up quickly to leave during the evenings for safety reasons to only have the doors keep opening when trying to close. Upon sharing with other friends and family, they also experience the same issue.
Lift gate is malfunctioning. The lift gate opens but not all the way. It then bounces down and up attempting to open or close itself.
Odyssey Minivan. The right rear sliding door became de-railed and stuck in the open position; the derailment also caused the third window on the right to break (rail is adjacent to the window).
Tailgate on 2019 Honda Odyssey model(s) without power lift gate function open to only a dangerously low height. Five undocumented head injuries have occured on a single vehicle within one year. Upon more research, tailgate height for these models have caused several head injuries some requiring medical attention. No warning labels or preventative equipment attached to the tailgate to warn of serious head injury. Honda dealership advised unable to adjust tailgate height.
The automatic sliding door won't close intermittently. When closing the sliding door, it will beep then slide back open, it creates a safety issue when the door will not close. The problem occurred intermittently and sometimes shut the engine off and then restarted the engine to fix it, but this has happened more than 30 times so it needs to be addressed.
Have been receiving an error about rear sliding door for 2 months. Now the inside of the door is rubbing against outside of van when opened & has made the inside door panel loose.
The motor that raises and lowers the rear liftgate failed and has been repaired already at a Honda Dealership. The van is not even 5 years old yet and the motor failing caused the lift gate to droop after opening causing my wife and I to bang our heads on it if we weren't watching for it. The more important safety concern is if the liftgate lowers to a certain point, the motor causes it to bounce up and down slightly and then automatically close. My concern for the safety of my young children made me get it repaired promptly. The honda dealership did confirm that the motor failed and it caused strain on the right strut as well need it to be replaced as well. There were no warning lights on dash. The trunk lift gate can suddenly fail and slam down quickly, being a safety hazard. When the trunk opens, it will move up and down a few times, then it will beep three times and slam shut. It consistently happens when parked on an incline.
The van was parked in the garage. I used the fob to open the sliding door on the drivers side. It stopped, got stuck. I pressed the button to open and close it in the vehicle and it started to move. And then I heard glass crunching. The door fell off the track and broke the window.
THE DOOR OF MY 2019 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS MALFUNCTIONED SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. UPON OPENING THE DOOR, IT IMMEDIATELY CLOSES WHEN ON AN INCLINE OR DECLINE AND WILL NOT STOP EVEN WHEN A CHILD IS IN THE WAY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS I OFTEN PICK MY CHILDREN UP FROM SCHOOL OR CAMP ON A SLIGHT HILL AND WHEN THE TEACHER/COUNSELOR PUTS THEM IN THE CAR, THE DOOR CLOSES ON MY CHILD. I ALSO HAVE DIFFICULTY CLOSING THE DOOR WHEN ON ANY TYPE OF HILL. I HAVE SEVERAL VIDEOS OF THE ISSUE. HONDA SAID THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE AND THAT THE SLIDING DOOR WAS ONLY DESIGNED TO WORK ON FLAT SURFACES, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS.
