A NOTICE HAS STARTED POPPING UP ON MY HONDA PILOT SAYING KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM. BUT MY CAR STILL STARTS. THE ERROR MESSAGE WENT AWAY FOR A FEW DAYS THEN CAME BACK.
WHILE CHANGING LANES (CAR IN MOTION 65 MPH) IN THE CITY, WARNING LIGHTS IN THE INSTRUMENT CLASTER STARTED TO APPEAR. ENGINE LOST POWER ( COULD NOT ACCELERATE) HAD TO CHANGE LANES IN TRAFFIC ALMOST GOT HIT BY SEMI TRUCKS. MANAGED TO DRIFT TO SIDE OF THE ROAD, CAR WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND COULD NOT GET INTO PARK. USED PARKING BREAK TO KEEP CAR FROM ROLLING. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINALLY MADE UP ITS MIND AND SETTLED ON EMISSIONS ERROR. BEFORE THAT IN WAS SHOWING ALL SORTS OF ERRORS. TURNED OFF THE CAR WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. VERY SCARY WITH KIDS IN CAR.
MY 2016 HONDA PILOT CATCH FIRE WHILE I WAS DRIVING 3/21/21 I BOUGHT THIS CAR 11/19 FROM HUNTINGTON HONDA
TWICE IN THE LAST WEEK MY HONDA PILOT HAS SHUT OFF WHEN AUTO-IDLING AT A STOP LIGHT. THE CAR SHOULD REMAIN IN DRIVE BUT WHEN I LOOKED DOWN IT HAD SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL. THE FIRST MESSAGE ON THE DASH BRIEFLY FLASHED 'CRASH MITIGATION PROBLEM' AND THEN INSTRUCTED ME TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND PUSH THE ENGINE START BUTTON. AFTER THIS INCIDENT, I TURNED OFF THE CRASH MITIGATION SYSTEM. A COUPLE DAYS LATER (TODAY), THE SAME THING HAPPENED. NO CRASH MITIGATION SYSTEM FLASH BUT INSTRUCTIONS TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND PRESS THEN ENGINE START BUTTON. BOTH TIMES THE ENGINE WAS ON AND IN DRIVE. AUTO IDLING WAS ENABLED. I HAVE ONLY OWNED THIS CAR FOR TWO MONTHS.
TWO MAIN PROBLEMS: 1) VEHICLE WON'T START AND DISPLAYS "KEYLESS START SYSTEM ERROR". HONDA ISSUED A RECALL RELATED TO THIS ISSUE AND LOCAL DEALERSHIP REPLACED ENGINE START/STOP SWITCH ASSEMBLY. PROBLEM AND ERROR MESSAGE RETURNED AGAIN 3 DAYS LATER. ON RETURN TRIP TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY TRIED TO BLAME IT ON A WEAK (5 MONTH OLD) BATTERY. (I TESTED BATTERY AT 3 DIFFERENT AUTO PARTS STORES AFTER TRIP TO DEALERSHIP; BATTERY TESTS AS GOOD AS NEW). COUNTLESS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE ON INTERNET MESSAGE BOARDS, OWNERS' MESSAGE BOARDS AND HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN (20-117) HAS BEEN ISSUED. CHANGING THE START/STOP SWITCH DOESN'T APPEAR TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM IN ALL VEHICLES. 2) PROBLEM WITH ENGINE NOT AUTO RE-STARTING AFTER GOING INTO AN AUTO IDLE STOP. HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH MY VEHICLE, INCLUDING TWICE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO NAVIGATE THROUGH AN INTERSECTION DURING START AND STOP TRAFFIC. HIGHLY UNSAFE SITUATION. I'M NOT AWARE OF ANY RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE, BUT NUMEROUS HONDA TECHNICAL RESEARCH & SUPPORT GROUP 'DEALERSHIP ONLY' MESSAGES HAVE BEEN ISSUED REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. TESTING AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP COULDN'T LOCATE ANY PROBLEMS. I TURN OFF THE AUTO IDLE STOP FEATURE IMMEDIATELY WHEN USING THE VEHICLE TO KEEP FROM GETTING STUCK IN TRAFFIC AGAIN.
The fuel tank leaks when it become near full which could put me and others at risk of fire. The vehicle hasn't been inspected and I notice this safety defect when I refill the gas tank
OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH MY CAR SHUTTING OFF WHEN AT A STOP AFTER THE AUTO OFF FEATURE ENGAGES AND DOES NOT TURN BACK ON. I HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND MANUALLY RESTART THE ENGINE TO CONTINUE. THIS WAS HAPPENING AT LEAST A COUPLE TIMES A MONTH. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER AND NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. I BEGAN TO GET IN THE HABIT OF DISABLING THE AUTO OFF FEATURE EVERY TIME I STARTED THE CAR AND THIS SEEMED TO AVOID THIS PROBLEM I WAS HAVING. TWO DAYS AGO, HOWEVER, WHEN I WAS DRIVING, IT BEGAN TO SHUT OFF EVERY TIME I WAS IDLING AT A RED LIGHT (8 TIMES IN ONE DAY) EVEN WITH THE AUTO-OFF DISABLED. AND WHEN I GOT ON THE FREEWAY, DRIVING AT ABOUT 55MPH, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND I HAD TO EMERGENTLY COAST OVER PAST THE FAST LANE INTO A NARROW INSIDE SHOULDER. I HAD MY YOUNG CHILDREN AND ELDERLY PARENTS IN THE CAR AND IT WAS A VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS EXPERIENCE FOR US. WE WERE THANKFUL ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND GET OFF THE FREEWAY WITH THE CAR SHUTTING OFF TWO MORE TIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS (10-20 MPH) BEFORE ARRIVING AT A GAS STATION PARKING LOT. THE DISPLAY CYCLED THROUGH MANY ERROR MESSAGES IE EMISSION SYSTEMS PROBLEM, POWER STEERING SYSTEM PROBLEM, TRANSMISSION SYSTEM PROBLEM, EMISSIONS SYSTEM PROBLEM, HILL START ASSIST PROBLEM, ETC. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT WE HAVE GOT CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE SHUTTING OFF WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS.
WHEN DRIVING A WARNING CAME UP THAT I HAVE AN EMISSIONS PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT ON. JUST HAD OIL CHANGED AND JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR 6 MONTHS AGO.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving 20-30 MPH, the vehicle would shudder. The dealer was made aware of the failure and scheduled an upcoming appointment for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Since 2021 the vehicle has stalled everywhere we go and has a gas/electrical burn fume. The vehicle had stalled in the middle of the highway and didn't allow us to shift it into any gears while flashing all dashboard lights. The vehicle was towed to Legend driven Honda where they couldn't find any issues and said they just reset the transmission code. For our peace of mind, we thought it would be best to have the full work up on the transmission since the dealership seemed incompetent with our vehicle's malfunction. The vehicle continued to stall and even had trouble starting up at times with the continued gas fumes. Well, it wasn't long before the issue returned and we were back to where we started, along with our A/C unit failing on us. We left the vehicle idle in the driveway for a bit as it was a safety concern for our families' wellbeing. We later received a recall notice on the auto-idle stop mechanism which we figured must have been the issue all along. We took it back to the dealership where they did their full inspection and came up with our transmission needing its regular full work-up which we had proclaimed that we already had done in the earlier months. After the alleged recall fix, the problem continued. We took the vehicle back and were told it was our battery and recommended our timing belt be replaced otherwise it would cause major issues down the road(it was concerning to us as these issues were never brought up the multiple times we had brought it in for the initial issues). Surely, we had it all fixed and replaced for the safety of our families well being having had our vehicle stall numerous times on the road which has now caused our children to be frightened of driving anywhere. Well on return home from the dealership, the vehicle did not stall, 2 hours later went to turn it on, it did not want to start and made a loud knocking noise. Currently towed to a different dealership
THE AUTO SHUT TURNS THE CAR OFF AT A STOP LIGHT AND THEN THE CAR WILL NOT RESTART. IT USUALLY NEEDS A JUMP. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THREE YEARS IN THE WINTER. THE BATTERY HAS BEEN REPLACED FOUR TIMES. I HAVE TRACED TO THE ISSUE TO AN OVERLOAD OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE ALTERNATOR IS NOT CAPABLE OF POURING ALL OF THE DEVICES IN THE CAR AND THUS THE BATTERY DRAINS. IF I RUN THE HEATED SEATS AND STEERING WHEEL, THE BATTERY WILL DISCHARGE WITHIN 30 MINUTES EVEN IF THE CAR IS DRIVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAVE BEEN STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS SEVERAL TIMES. THE AUTOSTART FEATURE NEEDS TO HAVE THE OPTION TO STAY DIS-ENGAGED WHEN THE CAR IS SHUT OFF. IT IS UNSAFE TO HAVE THE CAR FAILS TO START AT STOPLIGHTS OR WHEN TRYING TO PULL INTO TRAFFIC. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS DESIGNED IMPROPERLY. DO THE MATH. THE LOAD FROM THE ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES, TWO HEATED FRONT SEATS, TWO REAR HEATED SEATS, HEATED STEERING WHEEL, HEATED MIRRORS, HEATED REAR WINDSHIELD WILL EASILY OVERLOAD THE POWER OF A STANDARD ALTERNATOR. THE VEHICLE NEEDS A LARGER ALTERNATOR AND A LARGER BATTERY (MAYBE DUAL) WITH ISOLATION SO IT CAN START AT STOPLIGHTS.
MOLDING TRIM ON ROOF OF THE VEHICLE IS LIFTING AND NOT SECURED. MOLDING TRIM AROUND WINDSHIELD IS NOT SECURED AND A PLASTIC SCREW DETERIORATED AND FELL OUT. TRIM WON'T STAY IN CLIPS ON THE ROOF OR ON THE WINDSHIELD. I NOTICED THE TRIM AROUND THE WINDSHIELD WAS LIFTED WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET. I NOTICED THE ROOF TRIM LIFTED WHEN I ARRIVED HOME AND THE SCREW ON THE WINDSHIELD BY THE VENT.
WE HAVE AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH OUR AUTO-IDLE FEATURE MALFUNCTIONING THAT BEGAN AT ABOUT 20,000 MILES. I HAVE WRITTEN A COMPLAINT HERE BEFORE, AS HAVE MANY OTHER 2016 PILOT OWNERS, HOWEVER NOTHING APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN DONE TO DATE. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY FEATURE WHEN THE AUTO-IDLE IS ENGAGED, FOOT IS TAKEN OFF THE BRAKE AND THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF, OFTEN TIMES NOT STARTING BACK UP WITHOUT A JUMP START. THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF, WARNING LIGHTS FLASH ALL OVER THE DASH AND NO MATTER WHAT YOU TRY THE CAR WILL NOT START BACK UP.THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE WITH OUR 2 DAUGHTERS NUMEROUS TIMES. FORTUNATELY, THERE HASN'T BEEN AN ACCIDENT, BUT MY GREATEST FEAR IS ONE TIME THERE WILL BE. NATURALLY THIS ALWAYS SEEMS TO HAPPEN AT BUSY INTERSECTIONS. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE TOO MANY TIMES TO COUNT. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY, REPLACED THE START/STOP SWITCH, CLEANED OUT MULTIPLE ERROR CODES. NOTHING HAS PROVIDED A PERMANENT FIX. WE JUST HAD TO HAVE OUR TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT 70,000 MILES! THE PROBLEM REARED IT'S HEAD AGAIN TODAY. THIS TIME MY WIFE HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE, THE GAS PEDAL (BOTH WITH ALL HER MIGHT) AND PRESS THE START/STOP BUTTON AT THE SAME TIME. SOMETHING ISN'T RIGHT. I'M CONVINCED WE HAVE A LEMON, HOWEVER THE DEALER SEEMS TO THINK WE DON'T HAVE A CASE FOR THAT. HONDA HAS TO STEP IN AND TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY. THERE ARE FAR TOO MANY 2016 PILOT OWNERS HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE FOR HONDA NOT TO REALIZE THE VALID SAFETY CONCERN WE ALL HAVE. TAKE A LOOK AT PILOTEERS.ORG AND YOU WILL FIND A RIDICULOUSLY LONG LIST OF FRUSTRATED 2016 PILOT OWNERS ALL STRUGGLING WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM URGING YOU TO TAKE ACTION TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FOR THE SAFETY FEATURES, HOWEVER "SAFE" ISN'T SOMETHING I FEEL KNOWING MY WIFE AND DAUGHTERS ARE IN THIS VEHICLE MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY.
THE PAINT NEAR THE MOON ROOF IS PEELING AND EXPOSING THE VEHICLE BODY TO CORROSION. HONDA PREVIOUSLY ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN (19-057) THAT EXTENDS THE WARRANTY TO 7 YEARS FROM PURCHASE DATE FOR 2013-2016 HONDA PILOT WIHTH MOONROOF AND PAINTED WHITE DIAMOND PEARL. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THIS VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED, EVEN THOUGH IT'S CLEAR THERE IS A PAINT DEFECT THAT IS COVERED UNDER THE SERVICE BULLETIN, FOR THE PRESCRIBED VEHICLE MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR.
SPEEDOMETER FLICKERS AND IS NOT WORKING MOST OF THE TIME. AND GOES BLACK MOST OF THE TIME IN MOTION STANDING STILL EVERYWHERE
WHEN I STOP WITH THE IDLE STOP IN ON THE HONDA PILOT , WHEN RELEASE THE BRAKES THE PILOT DISCHARGE BATTERY AND NEVER TURN ON. THE BATTERY WAS DISCHARGED WHEN IS INSPECTED. NEVER WAKE UP. I NEED TO CHARGE BATTERY AND THEN THE BATTERY IS FUNCTION WITH NO PROBLEM WITH THE IDLE STOP DISABLE. THIS PAST ONLY WITH THE IDLE STOP IS IN ON ONLY. FOR FIVE CONSECUTIVE TIMES PASS ME IN TRAFFIC AREA AND IS A PROBLEM BECAUSE NOT TURN ON BRAKES LIGHTS AND SIGNALS LIGHTS. IS A VERY PROBLEM AND ATTEMPT TO SECURITY. HOPEFULLY HELPS. THANKS ALWAYS PAST WHEN RELEASE THE BRAKES PADS AFTER IDLE STOP. NEVER TURN ON AGAIN.
THE AUTO SHUT OFF FEATURE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AT A RED LIGHT - AND WOULD NOT TURN THE CAR BACK ON ONCE THE BRAKE WAS RELEASED. WE NEEDED TO JUMP THE PILOT TO GET IT TO TURN OVER AGAIN. AS THIS HAPPENED AT AN INTERSECTION ON A STATE HIGHWAY, WE WERE VERY LUCKY TO NOT BE REAR-ENDED! VERY UNSAFE AND THE MECHANIC SAID THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BATTERY!!
KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM WARNING APPEARS ON THE SCREEN.
The Pilot defaults to the automatic engine shutoff when the brake is pressed. Several times, my car would shut off at the stop, but not restart when I took my foot off the pedal. When I'd go to restart the car, pressing the Start Engine button would just turn on accessories - it would never engage the gas/ignition. I'd have to give it a few minutes. I took it to my dealership who replaced the push button ignition. I had googled the issue and saw others had the same issue and warning message about the brake mitigation system, I saw that it was likely related to the brake booster/vacuum hose. I brought it back to the dealer the following month as the shut off had happened again and explained again about finding the brake booster as the issue. They replaced the part and the stall out hasn't happened again. It was never a consistent issue. I don't know what caused it to shut off, as it happened in cold or warm weather. Having to press the brake really hard is not a natural step in driving, so I'm thinking there's something wonky with the system. Even when I remote start my car, I have to press the brake pedal extremely firmly to have it remain started when I go to drive. Otherwise, the car will just switch to the accessory mode. This is a risk because the car defaults to the auto engine shut off when in traffic. If a car is unable to restart when the brake pedal is released, accidents can happen
THE PUSH START BUTTON DOES NOT WORK, IT IS GIVING ME AN ERROR 'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM'. I CHANGED THE KEY FOB'S BATTERY TO A BRAND NEW BATTERY AND IT IS NOT THE KEY FOB WITH ISSUES, IT IS THE BUTTON ITSELF. I HAVE TO KEEP PRESSING THE BREAK AND THE START BUTTON TO GET THE CAR TO START WORKING. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR 3 MONTHS AND IT KEEPS GETTING WORSE, I HAVE TO PRESS THE START BUTTON LIKE A TOY.
PROBLEM WITH THE AUTO STOP/START FEATURE- THE ENGINE STOPS BUT DOESN'T ALWAYS START . IT TRIES TO START BUT DOESN'T. PRESSING THE START BUTTON (IGNITION) DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK RIGHT AWAY. SEAMS YOU HAVE TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK, AND PRESS THE START BUTTON (SOMETIMES 4-5 TIMES) BEFORE THE ENGINE STARTS. THIS IS NERVE RACKING AND DANGEROUS WHEN YOU ARE IN TRAFFIC- SAY AT A LIGHT, OR TRYING TO CROSS OVER ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE TIME IS TAKES SOMETIMES TO RE-START THE ENGINE IS ABOUT 10-15 SECONDS. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. (DOESN'T ALWAYS HAPPEN). IT'S NOT THE BATTERY. I HAD A NEW BATTERY REPLACEMENT. I ALSO TRIED USING A TRICKLE CHARGER TO "TOP OFF" THE BATTERY INCASE IT WASN'T FULLY CHARGED. NO LUCK.
KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM ERROR. INTERMITTENT FOR MONTHS. NOT PRESENT WHEN TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP TWICE. SCHEDULED SERVICE AGAIN NEXT WEEK WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP IT WOULD COST $134 PER HOUR TO DIAGNOSE ISSUE. WALK AWAY AUTO LOCK NO LONGER FUNCTIONS TRUNK HATCH INTERMITTENTLY DOES NOT POWER OPEN OR CLOSED. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL SO I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN HONDA FOR NOT ISSUING A RECALL.
CAR IS PARKED IN MY GARAGE. CAR WILL NOT START. REMOTE KEYLESS START ERROR. CALLED THE HONDA DEALER. THEY SAID TO HAVE IT TOWED IN. WAITING ON THE TOW TRUCK RIGHT NOW.
THE AUTOMATIC START SYSTEM TURNS THE CAR OFF AND ON WHEN STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN FOR EXAMPLE. THE FEATURE SOMETIMES WITHOUT ANY WARNING FAILS TO RESTART THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY. THE DRIVER MUST PUT THE CAR IN PARK, PUSH DOWN ON THE BRAKE, RESTART THE CAR AND THEN SHIFT INTO PARK TAKING A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR SO MANY REASONS AND IT MUST MANUALLY BE TURNED OFF BECAUSE IT DEFAULTS TO ON. WITH NO WARNING YOUR CAR COULD BE TURNED OFF AND NOT AUTOMATICALLY START WHEN IT'S SUPPOSED TO. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME MULTIPLE TIMES STOPPED AT RED LIGHT, STOP SIGNS AND IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. I WOULD LIKE TO EITHER HAVE A WARNING IN PLACE OR BE ABLE TO PERMANENTLY DISABLE THIS DANGEROUS FEATURE.
HONDA 2016 TOURING SHUT OFF WHEN STOPPING AT TRAFFIC LIGHT OR INTERSECTION, IT DOES NOT AUTO RESTART FROM IDLING-STOP MODE. IT TOOK COUPLE OF TRIES TO PRESS THE BREAK AND PUSH THE START BUTTON FOR THE CAR TO START. I ALSO NOTICED THE RADIO TURNED OFF AND THE CAR PUT ITSELF TO PARK. IT STARTED COUPLE MONTHS BACK, AND GETTING MORE FREQUENT.
THE CAR STALLS OUT AT TIMES WHEN STOPPED. THE GEAR SWITCHES TO NEUTRAL. WHEN I CHANGE IT TO PARK THEN I GET A MESSAGE THAT I NEED TO START ENGINE BUT THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. I AM NOT ABLE TO STOP IT EITHER BY PRESSING BREAK AND THE STOP/START BUTTON. I TRIED IT MULTIPLE TIMES AND FINALLY IT STOPPED AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT AND DRIVE AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED TO MY DAUGHTER WHILE SHE WAS ON AN ON RAMP TO A HIGHWAY SO THIS BEHAVIOR US NOT ONLY INCONVENIENT BUT VERY DANGEROUS. WE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THEY SAID THAT SINCE NO ERROR CODE SHOWS UP THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING. THEY CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUIDS AND THE DAY AFTER I PICKED UP THE CAR THE SAME THING HAPPENED.
I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND MY ENGINE TURNED OFF FROM THE IDLE/STOP FEATURE. HOWEVER, WHEN I RELEASED THE BRAKES THIS TIME, THE CAR DID NOT TURN ON AS IT NORMALLY DOES. INSTEAD, THE WHOLE VEHICLE TURNED OFF AND IT TOOK ME SEVERAL TRIES TO TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I REPLACED THE CAR BATTERY AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN A MONTH AFTER. MY PILOT WOULD NOT TURN ON AGAIN AFTER RELEASING THE BRAKES.
I HAVE TAKEN MY 2016 HONDA PILOT 3 TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CANT FIGURED OUT WHY THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM LIGHT IS COMING ON. THEY REPLACED THE STARTED AND ALSO THE BATTERY BECAUSE SOMETHING IN THE ELECTRICAL IS BAD.
KEEP ENCOUNTERING KEYLESS REMOTE START PROBLEM. PROBLEM DOES NOT RESOLVE. TAKES SEVERAL TRIES TO GET CAR STARTED.
KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM
ENGINE LIGHT DISPLAYS AND WARNING MESSAGE READS KEYLESS START SYSTEM ERROR. I'VE REPLACED THE BATTERIES ON BOTH KEY FOBS AND IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. NO OTHER ISSUES AT THIS TIME. WARNING LIGHTS HAS DISPLAYED FOR ABOUT THE LAST 1,000 MILES. THE ALERT DID DISAPPEAR FOR ABOUT 50 MILES AND RETURNED.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND WHEN DIAGNOSED BY THE REPAIR SHOP THE CODE P0456 WHICH IS VERY SMALL EVAP LEAK. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF WITH THE RECALL ON THIS CAR. THE REPAIR SHOP PRINTED ALL OF THE RECALLS AND TOLD ME MOST LIKELY IT WOULD NEED THE FUEL TANK REPLACED WHICH IS COVER UNDER A RECALL. THEY TOLD ME TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SEE OF THE RECALL WORK HAS BEEN COMPLETED. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THAT THE RECALL WAS DONE IN THE PAST.
My 2016 Honda Pilot is experiencing the same exact issue that is reported for Honda Service Bulletin 19-057 first issued 2019 and again in 2020. I reported to Honda Corp. and the dealer we purchased the car from. They both came back after numerous inquires that our car did not qualify for this bulletin as our VIN was not part of this. Not sure how this is possible, if you look at our car the pictures noted on the Service Bulletin could literally be our car. I AM GETTING AN ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DASH THAT READS 'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM'. STAYS ON UNTIL I TURN THE CAR OFF AND WHEN I START THE CAR THE NEXT TIME THE MESSAGE DOES NOT APPEAR BUT WHEN I START THE CAR THE NEXT TIME IT APPEARS AGAIN.
MY 2016 HONDA PILOT IS GIVING ME PROBLEMS ON FILLING UP MY GAS TANK. MY CAR HAS 46000 MILE AND I DON'T THINK ANY PARTS ARE DAMAGED CAUSE IT ONLY 5 YES OLD. THREE TIMES THE CAR HAS STALLED AND SHUT DOWN AFTER STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT ON A BUSY CITY STREET WHILE THE AUTO IDLE FEATURE WAS ON. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN AND YOUR FOOT COMES OFF THE BRAKE THE CAR SHUTS OFF AND PUTS ITSELF IN PARK. THE CAR WILL NOT START AND EACH TIME WE TRIED TO START IT ALL THE DIFFERENT WARNING MESSAGES CYCLE THROUGH ON THE DASH SUCH AS HILL START ASSIST, TRAILER STABILITY ASSIST, ROAD DEPARTURE MITIGATION ETC. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR FINALLY STARTED. THE SECOND TIME IT WOULD NOT START AND A TOW TRUCK HAD TO BE CALLED. SINCE THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO NEUTRAL THE CAR HAD TO BE DRAGGED ONTO THE FLATBED TOW TRUCK. THE THIRD TIME THE BATTERY WAS JUMPED AND THE CAR FINALLY STARTED. THE BATTERY HAS BEEN TEST EACH TIME AND IT IS FINE. THIS HAS CAUSED A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR MY FAMILY BY BEING STUCK IN BUSY INTERSECTIONS. OUR LOCAL HONDA DEALER SAID THEY DON'T KNOW WHY IT IS HAPPENING AND WILL NEED TO RUN TESTS. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE SO I KNOW IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE. HONDA NEED TO RECALL AND FIX THE PROBLEM.
WHEN MY CAR FUEL WENT DOWN TO EMPTY THE LIGHT CAME ON AND I PULLED OVER TO GET GAS. WHEN I PUSHED THE AUTOMATIC RELEASE BUTTON MY FUEL DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. I SEARCHED UP POSSIBLE CAUSES AND FOUND A VIDEO OF A MAN DEMONSTRATING WHERE YOU CAN FIND A MANUAL LEVER TO POLE TO RELEASE THE FUEL DOOR. I FOUND THE LEVER AND PULLED IT AT THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. THANKFULLY I WAS NOT TOO FAR AWAY FROM HOME AND DROVE HOME ON MY EMPTY TANK. IF I HAD BEEN SOMEWHERE FAR AWAY THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER WHO HAD TO PULL APART HALF OF MY CAR TO GET TO THE PLACE TO FIX IT. I HAD ALSO READ ONLINE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER HONDA PILOT OWNERS. IT SEEMS DANGEROUS.
IN DECEMBER 8 2020 STARTED ALARM STARTED GOING OFF RANDOMLY TOOK IT IN TO RUSTY WALLACE HONDA DALLAS TX ,THEY KEPT 3 DAYS SAID COULDN'T FIND CAUSE BUT IT DID GO OFF 2 TIMES. THEY SAID DID RESET AND SENT IT HOME.ON MARCH24 THIS YEAR GOT ERROR FOR KEYLESS ENTRY ,HONDA SAID ON RECALL CHANGED START BUTTON,ON MARCI 29 CAR ALARM STARTED GOING OFF AGAIN ,SO BROUGHT IT BACK TO HONDA NOW THEY SAY IT'S KEYLESS ACCESS/TIM'S CONTROL UNIT AND PROGRAM UNIT AND KEYS & MEMORIZE TIM'S SENSORS 832.DOLLARS.NEED TO MENTION CAR ONLY HAS 45K.THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED EACH TIME
WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED, DASHBOARD DISPLAYS MESSAGE "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM." THIS IS BEING REPORTED FREQUENTLY ON THE INTERNET AND APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE. WHEN IT OCCURS, THE AUTOMATIC WALK AWAY DOOR LOCK FEATURE ALSO QUITS WORKING. SUPPOSED FIX IS TO REPLACE THE START/STOP SWITCH WHICH I DID. THIS RESOLVED THE DASHBOARD ERROR MESSAGE BUT NOT THE AUTOMATIC LOCK ISSUE. THIS SAME RESULT IS BEING REPORTED FREQUENTLY ON THE INTERNET AND THE PROBLEM IS BEING REPORTED FOR HONDA PILOTS BEGINNING WITH THE 2016 MODEL AND CONTINUING UP TO THE 2021 MODEL.
AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY ON IMPACT. DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH ON A RESIDENTIAL ROAD WHEN BRAKE'S LOCKED AND CAR DID NOT RESPOND, RUNNING DIRECTLY INTO A TELEPHONE POLE WHILE ON A HILL/SLOPE. CAR PICKED UP SPEED BEFORE IMPACT. AIR BAG SENSOR OR ERROR APPEARED ON IMPACT, CAR SMELLED OF SMOKE/BURNING. FRONT BODY AND FRAME HAD EXTENSIVE DAMAGE, IE. RADIATOR CAGE(?). AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND POLICE STATED THAT GIVEN THE IMPACT, THEY SHOULD HAVE. CAR IS BEING REPAIRED AND AIR BAG SENSOR CONTINUES TO DISPLAY WITHOUT KNOWN CAUSE.
Unpredictably when my auto idle is engaged my vehicle will stall, resulting in me being unable to move my vehicle without forcing a prompted restart.This occurs at very random times to include when I am stopped at a stop light, waiting in a drive-thru line, in traffic, or any additional times when the auto idle engages. This is very dangerous because it results in my vehicle being an unexpected stalled obstacle for all participants on the road. The vehicle has been inspected and the engine start/stop button has been replaced twice. Unknown if there were any warning laps messages or other symptoms.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle at lower RPM’s between 1,500 – 1,800 RPM, the vehicle intermittently surged and hesitated to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who reprogrammed the PCM and replaced the transmission fluid however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
WHEN I TRY TO START THE VEHICLE BY PRESSING THE START/STOP BUTTON WHILE SITTING IN THE VEHICLE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE KEY FOB IN MY HAND, AND THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START. ALL OF MY WARNING LIGHTS TURNED ON BACK IN OCT 2020.. WE DID SOME DRIVING THE DAY BEFORE,. BUT NOTHING CRAZY... EVERY LIGHT WENT OFF .. SO TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS FUEL INJECTORS.. SO THEY REPLACED IT ALL .. AND SAID IT SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM... THEN I DROVE IT TO SOUTHERN CA DURING THANKSGIVING AND THEN ALL OF SUDDEN COMING DOWN FROM (GRAPEVINE) THE CAR STALLED, I PRESS THE GAS AND NOTHING .. I WAS ABLE TO COAST IT TO SIDE OF THE ROAD..ATTACHED IS A PIC OF WHAT WAS COMING UP.. THEN I PUT CAR IN PARK AND AND THE RPM STARTED TO GO UP 4-5 RPM WITHOUT ME PRESSING GAS, SO I WOULD TURN OFF CAR.. 10 MIN LATER I STARTED THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT OFF THE FREEWAY.. BUT COULDNT DRIVE MORE THAN 50 MPH.. SO THE TRANSMISSION WOULD CHANGE.. SO AFTER GETTING TOWED AND TOOK FEW DAYS.. TOOK TO HONDA DEALERSHIP IN VENTURA CA.. WORST SERVICE EVER.. PRETTY MUCH DIDNT WANT TO LOOK AT VEHICHLE.. SO THEN TOOK TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP MORE HELPFUL.. ALL THE ERROR LIGHT WAS GONE.. THEY TOLD ME ONLY ERROR WAS SOME OIL PRESSURE DOWN.. AND SUGGESTED THAT OIL FILTER WASNT N AUTHENTIC OIL FILTER AND THATS WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED PROBLEM.. YES IDONT TYPICALLY SEND TO DEALERSHIP BUT I DO GO TO A AUTHENTIC OIL CHANGE COMPANY... SO PRETTY MUCH THIS ERROR HAS CAUSED TWICE IN 3 MONTHS.. VEHICLE ONLY AT 61K WHEN THE 2ND ONE HAPPEN.. AND NOT REAL SOLUTION.. I HAD MY 2 KIDS AND MY WIFE WHEN THIS ALL HAPPEN.. NOT SAFE AT ALL.. PLEASE FIND A SOLUTION.. MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP OFFERED TO TAKE MY VEHCILE AND DRIVE IT HOME WITH A TECHNICIAN TO SEE IF ANYTHING COME UP.. BUT NOW IM SEEING A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.. THIS OCCURS WHEN VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF, IN BOTH PARKING LOTS AND GARAGE. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP. THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS. IT HAS CONTINUED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS.
