What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Unsure, but likely transmission. I no longer own the vehicle, it is at Tom Ahl Hyundai in Lima, Ohio. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? When the vehicle was put in reverse, without pressing the gas the car would rapidly accelerate and jerk as if it was going to stall. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the dealership. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The manufacturer was working on a fix but unable to figure out the issue, so I returned the car. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, no warning lights.

THE CRUISE CONTROL USES A CAMERA , THE IS SUPPOSED TO WATCH YOUR EYES , TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE WATCHING THE ROAD . UNFORTUNATELY , IF YOU ARE WEARING GLASSES ( WHICH I MUST WHEN I AM DRIVING ) THE LIGHT REFLECTING OFF THEM MAKES THE UNIT THINK I AM NOT WATCHING THE ROAD . FOR BACKROUND, I WAS A HIGHWAY PATROL OFFIGER FOR 30 YEARS . I AM VERY ATTENTIVE TO THE ROAD AHEAD OF ME . IT SEEMS HYUNDAI KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM , WHICH SUDDENLY DISENGAGES THE CRUISE CONTROL , CAUSING RAPID DECELERATION OF THE VEHICLE . AT HIGHWAY SPEED , THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS . IT HAS BEEN NOTED ON MANY FORUMS , AND MY DEALER KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM , BUT THERE IS NO WAY TO DISCONNECT THE CAMERA FROM THE SYSTEM . THIS IS REALLY AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN .
