TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR REMAINED IN THE DOWNWARD POSITION AND OBSTRUCTED THE VIEW OF THE ROAD. THE SUN VISOR WAS UNABLE TO BE SECURED IN THE UPWARD POSITION. THE VISOR WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,354.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, HE HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION AND NOTICED THAT THE SUN ROOF HAD EXPLODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY SPOUSE REPORTED TO ME THAT THE AIRBAG FOR DRIVERS SIDE CAME ON AND STAYED ON. TWO DAYS AGO, I TOOK THE CAR TO WORK (READJUSTING THE SEAT) AND THE LIGHT WAS NOT ON. I HAD READ ABOUT THIS ISSUE IN ONLINE FORUMS FOR MY MAKE AND YEAR AND THIS PROBLEM AND THERE WAS MENTION THAT IF YOU MOVE THE SEAT FORWARD AND BACK THAT YOU CAN GET THE LIGHT TO TURN OFF. WELL, I TRIED THAT AND UNFORTUNATELY FOR ME THE LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS STAYED ON. WE PREVIOUSLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG RECALL AND HAD THAT TAKEN CARE OF. I TOOK THE CAR TO OUR DEALER TO FIND OUT IF THEY HAD SIMILAR OCCURRENCES AND WAS SURPRISED BY MY SERVICE ADVISER'S ATTITUDE. HE APPEARED GUARDED AND WAS VERY UNLIKE HIM. I USUALLY GET ALL MY SERVICE DONE THERE. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT I WAS NOT THE FIRST ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. HE TOLD ME THAT FIRST I'D HAVE TO GET A DIAGNOSIS ($79+ TAX), THEN ANY REPAIRS ( ANYWHERE FROM $300 TO 1500.) WOULD BE MY RESPONSIBILITY AS THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I ALSO ASKED IF THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON, DOES THE AIRBAG NOT WORK AND WAS TOLD YES. I JUST WENT TO NHTSA TODAY AND LOOKED IN THE COMPLAINT SECTION FOR THIS VEHICLE AND FOUND NUMEROUS PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. REQUIRING AIRBAGS IN VEHICLES IS A FEDERAL LAW REQUIREMENT, SO WHY THEN IF THESE SYSTEMS FAIL WITHOUT ANY OWNERS NEGLIGENCE, ARE THE MANUFACTURERS NOT REQUIRED TO SEE THAT THEY GET REPAIRED? WHAT TRIGGERS A RECALL? AFTER TALKING WITH ONE OF YOUR REPRESENTATIVES, A SHORT TIME AGO, I ASKED THAT QUESTION AND SHE SAID THAT NHTSA CAN'T FORCE A MANUFACTURER FOR JUST ANYTHING. I SAID, "SOMEONE WHOSE AIRBAG DOESN'T DEPLOY IN A CRASH AND DIES MIGHT TRIGGER A RECALL?" THE REPRESENTATIVE REPLIED, "THOSE ARE YOU WORDS, MOT MINE". *TR
CAR HAS STARTED MAKING CLUNKING SOUND FROM REAR END OF CAR. TOOK TO AN AUTO MECHANIC REPLACED STRUTS WHEEL BEARINGS HAS SPENT HOURS ON TRYING TO FIND NOISE, EVEN TO THE POINT OF RIDING IN THE TRUNK FOR 15 BLOCKS.VERY CONCERNED THIS COULD LEAD TO SOMETHING BAD. *TR
"ESC OFF" LIGHT IS "ON" AND CAN'T BE RESET. HYUNDAI HAS NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS FAILURE OF A SAFETY RELATED SYSTEM AND DOESN'T SEEM INTERESTED IN REPAIRING WHAT IS A SYSTEMIC DEFICIENCY. I THINK A RECALL IS WARRANTED.
ON THIS DATE IT WAS UNUSUALLY COLD WEATHER FOR OUR STATE AT A HIGH OF 7 DEGREES PLUS WIND CHILL ("THE POLAR VORTEX"). I WAS LEAVING FOR WORK AND HAD LET MY CAR RUN FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES BEFORE BEGINNING TO DRIVE. I WAS NOT EVEN A QUARTER OF A MILE AWAY (ACTUALLY ONLY ABOUT A STREET OVER) FROM MY HOME WHEN I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. THERE WAS AN SUV IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND THE SUV IN FRONT OF ME BEGAN TO DRIFT SLIGHTLY FORWARD, I DID THE SAME. WHEN I WENT TO PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL TO DRIFT FORWARD AT THE PACE OF THE SUV IN FRONT OF ME, IT ABRUPTLY ACCELERATED. THERE WAS ABOUT 5 FEET IN BETWEEN THE SUV AND MY CAR, BUT I WAS UNABLE TO STOP FAST ENOUGH AND REAR ENDED THE SUV IN FRONT OF ME. THERE WAS MINOR DAMAGE, HOWEVER THIS WAS COMPLETELY UNAVOIDABLE AND UNNECESSARY. THE FOLLOWING DAY, WHICH WAS ALSO A VERY COLD DAY, I HAD JUST LEFT MY HOUSE FOR WORK AND WHEN I WENT INTO REVERSE IT DID THE SAME EXACT ABRUPT ACCELERATION. THANKFULLY THIS TIME THERE WERE NO CARS AROUND---IN COMBINATION WITH MY AWARENESS OF THIS POSSIBLY BEING AN ISSUE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR RECALL REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V161000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
I ONLY PUT 2 ITEMS BUT I HAVE OTHER CAMPAIGNS IN WITH SAME CARE BUT IM DRIVING THE CAR AND I LOOSE POWER IN CAR TO EVERYTHING LIKE IT WAS SHUT OFF AT KEY THEN GOES BACK ON DOES IT LIKE 2 OR 3 TIMES A WEEK I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR DUE TO NO POWER TO BRAKES THEN CAR JUST GOES RIGHT BACK ON WITHOUT TOUCHING ANYTHING OTHER PROBLEMS NEVER HEARD BACK IS THE ISSUE WITH A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE GAS TANK LEAK DUE TO THE METAL ON TOP RUSTING AND CRACKS PLASTIC TANK CAUSE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT TO STAY ON THEN THE FRONT SUSPENSION CLUNKING SINCE I BOUGHT IT 2 YRS AGO BUT DEALERSHIP CANT FIND NOTHING ITS THE UPPER CONTROL ARM MY AIRBAG LIGHT IN DRIVER CLUSTER WAS ON WHEN I BOUGHT IT DEALER SAID THEY FIXED IT SAME DAY I BOUGHT IT WENT FOR STATE INSPECT WOULDN'T PASS THE FUSE WAS PULLED SO LIGHT STAYS OFF THIS CAR IS A LEMON THEY SHOULD REPAIR OR BUY IT BACK I PUT MORE IN CAR IN 2 YEARS THAN WHAT I PAID FOR IT SO FAR AND STILL NEEDS MORE WORK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS BECAME EXTREMELY DIM AND LIMITED THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE HEADLIGHTS WERE ACTIVATED. IN ADDITION, THE HEATER AND AIR CONDITIONER FAN FAILED TO OPERATE DUE TO A SHORT CIRCUIT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V161000 (AIR BAGS). AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE READING OF THE GAUGES FLUCTUATED ERRATICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,000.
TL-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED WHENEVER THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF THE AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS AND OTHER EXTERIOR LIGHTS ON THE VEHICLE REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD HAVE TO BE TURNED OFF MANUALLY EACH TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,100. JS
CAR WAS TAKEN TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FOR OCS RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SEAT RECALL. A FEW HOURS LATER DEALER CALLED TO ADVISE THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE OCS AIR BAG. I WAS TOLD THE CODE ASSOCIATED WITH THE LIGHT BEING ON INDICATING "PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF" RELATED TO THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER NOT WORKING, NOT THE OCS. SINCE THE SEAT BELT IS A SAFETY ISSUE, I ASKED THE DEALER TO TAKE CARE OF IT AT NO CHARGE TO ME. THE DEALER (RICK CASE HYUNDAI IN DAVIE, FL) REFUSED TO DO SO SAYING THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED IN THE OCS RECALL AND THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I THEN CALLED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REQUESTED THAT HYUNDAI REPAIR THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER AT NO CHARGE TO ME. THEY READ ME A PREPARED STATEMENT STATING THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE OCS RECALL AND WOULD NOT TAKE CARE OF IT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. AFTER I SPOKE TO A CASE MANAGER AT HYUNDAI, THEY AGREED TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP AND SEE IF THEY COULD WORK SOMETHING OUT WITH THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE SEAT BELT REPAIR. HYUNDAI WAS SUPPOSED TO CALL ME BACK WITHIN A WEEK TO TELL ME WHAT WAS WORKED OUT. THEY DID NOT. WHEN I CALLED BACK A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER, HYUNDAI AGAIN READ ME THE PREPARED STATEMENT SAYING THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I REITERATED THAT THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I EXPECTED THEM TO REPAIR IT. THEY CONTINUED TO REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR. I ADVISED I WAS GOING TO REPORT THIS SAFETY ISSUE TO NHTSA. HYUNDAI WAS UNCONCERNED. AS NHTSA SHOULD SEE, SEVERAL HYUNDAI SONATA OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THIS SAME SEAT BELT PROBLEM TO NHTSA. MY PASSENGER SEAT IS RARELY USED, SO THIS SEEMS TO BE A HYUNDAI SAFETY DEFECT FOR WHICH THE DEALERS AND HYUNDAI SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO MAKE A RECALL AND REPAIR AT THEIR EXPENSE.I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS NOT REMOVED AND SENT TO HYUNDAI FOR ANALYSIS AS NOTED IN THE OCS RECALL. *TR

THIS VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER OF HYUNDAI ON OCTOBER 29,2013 FOR THE SAFETY RECALLS RECEIVED FROM HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V-354 AND FAILURE OF OCS RECALL BY NHTSA).SINCE THE SERVICE PERSONNEL INSISTED TO DO 70,000 MILE SERVICE I AGREED AND AFTER 1 HOUR HE CALLED ME AND SAID THERE IS A LEAK IN THE RADIATOR HOSE. THIS CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED BY AUTHORIZED HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTERS AND ALWAYS HAD PERSISTENT PROBLEMS LIKE OIL LEAKS (CHANGED GASKETS (PAID$400), POWER STEERING LEAKS (PAID $300), BRAKE ROTORS PROBLEMS WHICH I HAD TO PAY $1300 TO REPLACE AT 30,000 MILES ETC ETC.THIS CAR COMES WITH 10 YEAR/100,000 BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY THAT IS FAKE.I HAD ALSO PAID ($1200) FOR AN EXTENDED COVERAGE FOR THIS VEHICLE WHEN I BOUGHT THIS BRAND NEW. BUT HYUNDAI DID NOT HONOR IT SINCE IT WAS A DEALER PACKAGE AND THAT DEALER NO MORE EXIST. ON OCTOBER 29,2013 AFTER THE RECALL SERVICE I PAID $400 SINCE THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE DID ALL THAT IS URGENT FOR THIS CAR. NEXT DAY MORNING I FOUND MY CAR IN A POOL OF MULTIPLE FLUIDS.I DECIDED TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER, BUT ON THE WAY THE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN SMOKE. I PULLED OVER TO THE GAS STATION WHICH HAD A WORK SHOP, FOUND THAT NO COOLANT IN THE CAR. THEY FILLED THE COOLANT AND PUT A NEW CLAMP ON THE HOSE WHICH WAS LOOSE. I MADE A COMPLAINT TO THE HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA AFTER 2 DAYS. CASE NUMBER IS 6156086. SINCE THEN I ESCALATED THE CASE CALLING THEM SEVERAL TIMES, BUT NO REASONABLE EFFORT FROM THERE SIDE TO HELP ME. ON NOVEMBER 13, THE CAR AGAIN BURNED AND GOT ENGULFED IN HUGE SMOKE WHEN MY WIFE WAS PARKING IN THE DRIVE WAY AFTER RETURNING FROM WORK. (I HAVE THE VIDEO ON MY CELL PHONE). AGAIN I CALLED HYUNDAI AMERICA AND THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT THE DEALER. I CALLED THE DEALER (HYUNDAI OF PARAMUS) AND THEY SAID THE SERVICE MANAGER WILL CALL BACK. BUT NEVER DID. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR SIX MONTHS. GOT THE RECALL NOTICE ABOUT PASSENGER OCCUPANT SYSTEM WHICH INDICATED THAT IF THE LIGHT STAYS ON TO BRING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SYSTEM CHECKED OUT OKAY. I TOLD THE SERVICE REP THAT THE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. HE INDICATED THAT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE. HE ALSO INDICATED THAT THE AIR BAG MAY OR MAY NOT DEPLOY IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. HYUNDAI SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS APPARENT DEFECT. *TR
ON NOV. 7, 2013, I NOTIFIED HYUNDAI THAT WE HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE SONATA'S OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (OCS). THE SYSTEM DID NOT CONSISTENTLY RECOGNIZE MY WIFE AS AN ADULT PASSENGER, EVEN THOUGH SHE CLEARLY EXCEEDED THE NECESSARY WEIGHT THRESHOLD DESIGNED TO ACTIVATE THE AIRBAG SENSOR. HYUNDAI, AFTER MECHANICAL/ELECTRONIC REVIEW, STATED THE OCS WAS WORKING AS DESIGNED. IT WASN'T. WE RETURNED THE VEHICLE FOR SERVICE ON APRIL 1, 2014, AND AGAIN ON MAY 22, 2014, ONLY TO HAVE HYUNDAI TELL US THE OCS WAS OPERATING "OK". AGAIN, ON JULY 30, 2015, WE RETURNED THE VEHICLE FOR SERVICE, AS THE OCS WAS STILL MALFUNCTIONING. HYUNDAI, AT THAT TIME, PERFORMED A REPROGRAMMING. STILL THE OCS DOES NOT CONSISTENTLY RECOGNIZE MY WIFE AS AN ADULT PASSENGER. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI AN ALMOST INNUMERABLE NUMBER OF TIMES IN REGARD TO THIS ISSUE. THOUGH HYUNDAI EVEN HAD AN ARBITRATOR DOCUMENT THE DEFECT, TO DATE WE STILL HAVE NO RESOLUTION. IT IS UNSAFE FOR MY WIFE, OR ANY OTHER ADULT PASSENGER, TO RIDE IN THE CAR. AND, AS ONE CAN SEE BY THE HISTORY, IT HAS BEEN THAT WAY FOR QUITE SOME TIME.

AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON DUE TO PRETENSIONER ISSUE. *TR
I CALLED TO BRING MY CAR IN (SATURDAY) TO GLENDALE HYUNDAI FOR A RECALL BUT NOBODY PICKLED UP SO I LEFT A MESSAGE. AFTER NOBODY CALLED AFTER A MANY HOURS LATER I CALLED BACK. I WAS TOLD TO DROP IN ON A WEEKDAY. ON MONDAY THE EMPLOYEE AND MANAGER DID NOT FIX MY CAR BECAUSE I REFUSED TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC FEE. A RECALL IN MY OPINION SHOULD BE FREE. I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT DAY AND WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 4:45 PM WITH HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE TO GO TO THE GLENDALE HYUNDAI. ON MY ARRIVAL THE EMPLOYEE REFUSED TO CHECK MY CAR BECAUSE HE SAID THEY DON'T FIX CARS AT 4:45. I ARRIVED EARLY, ABOUT THIRTY MINUTES EARLY, BUT HE SAID IT WAS TOO LATE. THE HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS A HISTORY OF MAKING APPOINTMENTS THAT DON'T MATCH UP WITH THE HYUNDAI DEALER HOURS. I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND THEY TOLD ME THERE SHOULD BE NO DIAGNOSIS FEE. WHEN THE APPOINTMENT WAS MADE THEY TOOK BACK THEIR CLAIM. THEY SAID I MUST PAY A DIAGNOSIS FEE FOR A RECALL. MY CAR IS A SALVAGE TITLE CAR IN GOOD CONDITION BUT HAS THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON. I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO NOT FIX A RECALL FOR THE CAR. I DON'T FEEL IT IS CORRECT TO PAY A DIAGNOSIS FEE FOR A RECALL INCIDENT. I WILL NO LONGER BE SHOPPING FOR HYUNDAI OR KIA PRODUCTS IN THE FUTURE. THEY WASTED MY TIME AND WANT TO CHARGE ME FOR A RECALL. *TR

MY FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF SOMETIMES IT IS ON WHEN SOMEONE IS IN THE SEAT BUCKLED UP AND SOMETIMES IT IS ON WHEN NO ONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. I RECEIVED A LETTER EXPLAINING A RECALL FOR THE SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WHICH MALFUNCTIONS. IT STATED THAT IF MY CAR DOES NOT DISPLAY THE AIRBAG OFF LIGHT TO CALL AND START A CASE. I CALLED AND DID SO. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY CAR. I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD TO PAY $95 FOR THEM TO VERIFY THAT WAS THE ISSUE. I LEFT AND CALLED THE NUMBER FOR HYUNDAI ON MY LETTER AGAIN. THEY SENT A MESSAGE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR BACK. I DID SO AND LEFT MY CAR AND GOT A LOANER. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR TWO WEEKS. I GOT MY CAR BACK AND IT WAS REPAIRED. FAST FORWARD TO JULY 2014, SAME THING STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN. I CALLED HYUNDAI AND SET UP A CASE AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS GIVEN AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING MY CAR. I GOT A LOANER AGAIN. I LEFT MY CAR ON MONDAY AND ON FRIDAY THAT SAME WEEK MY CAR WAS READY. I DONT BELIEVE THEY SENT MY PASSENGER SEAT TO CALIFORNIA AGAIN. IT SCARES ME TO KNOW THST THE AIRBAG MAY NOT DEPLOY. THE ESC OFF LIGHT TURNED ON BY ITSELF. WHEN PUSHING THE BUTTON FOR THE ESC OFF, NOTHING HAPPENED. A FEW DAYS LATER I NOTICED A MINOR STUTTER-STEP OF THE CAR'S FORWARD MOTION WITH A SLIGHT GRINDING NOISE, AND THE ESC OFF LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE ESC OFF LIGHT STAYED ILLUMINATED. WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION, I SHUT THE CAR OFF THEN TURNED IT ON AGAIN. THE ESC LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ILLUMINATED. AUGUST 27, 2014, I LEFT MY CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP AND PROCEEDED TO WORK, THEY "FOUND DAMAGE TO LEFT-FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND LEFT-FRONT TONE WHEEL. THEY ALSO STATED BOTH THE SPEED SENSOR AND LEFT-FRONT TONE WHEEL NEED TO BE REPLACED BEFORE FURTHER DIAGNOSIS COULD BE PERFORMED. AUGUST 30, 2014, I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 M.P.H. WHEN TRAFFIC AHEAD BEGAN SLOWING. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE CAR DIDN'T JUST STUTTER & GRIND, IT WAS LIKE ONE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WASN'T BRAKING AT ALL AND THE OTHER SIDE WAS BREAKING HARD. THE CAR JERKED SIDE TO SIDE FOR A SHORT DISTANCE THEN SEEMED TO RIGHT ITSELF. THE ESC OFF LIGHT WAS NOW ILLUMINATED AGAIN. IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING ANY FASTER, OR IN HEAVIER TRAFFIC, THIS CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. I FEEL THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW, NOT AN ERROR ON MY PART AS THE CONSUMER, AND BELIEVE THIS TO BE A LIFE AND DEATH SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER EXITING A RESTAURANT PARKING LOT I ATTAINED A SPEED OF ABOUT 35MPH WHEN A TRAFFIC LITE ABOUT 100YDS AHEAD TURNED TO RED. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND AFTER A FEW YARDS APPLIED THE BRAKES ONLY TO FIND THE PEDAL GOING DOWN TO THE FLOOR WITH LITTLE OR NO BRAKING ACTION. I GRABBED AND THE PULLED THE HAND BRAKE AS HARD AS REASONABLE WITHOUT BREAKING THE HANDLE OR DOING OTHER DAMAGE TO THE EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM. ALTHOUGH I STOPPED ABOUT 2-3 CAR LENGTHS SHORT OF AN ACCIDENT I'M SURE THAT USE OF THE HAND BRAKE PREVENTED A REAR END COLLISION. ONLY AFTER I HAD DRIVEN A FEW HUNDRED YARDS TO GET OFF THE ROADWAY DID THE RED BRAKE FAILURE LITE COME ON CONFIRMING THAT I HAD SURVIVED A SUDDEN BRAKE FAILURE AS OPPOSED TO A SLOW LEAK FAILURE. WITH A RATHER SHAKY HAND, I GRABBED A FLASH LIGHT AND WHILE MY PASSENGER PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM A LOCATION ABOUT 16 INCHES IN FRONT OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE. THE CAR IS IN THE YARD NOW BUT W/O A LIFT THE LOCATION OF THE FAILURE IS UNKNOWN. HUNDAI DID NOT SEEMED TOO CONCERNED ABOUT THE NEAR ACCIDENT STATING THERE ARE NO KNOWN BRAKE ISSUES BUT DID GIVE ME A CASE NUMBER FOR REFERENCE, THAT NUMBER IS 6046357. SINCE HUNDAI DID NOT SEEM TOO CONCERNED ABOUT NEAR ACCIDENT SO I WILL BE TAKING THE SONATA TO A LOCAL DEALER.

I TOOK MY CAR SO THAT THE DEALER COULD DO THE RECALIBRATING TO THE SEAT ON 8/27/2013. THEY TOLD ME BEFORE THEY SENT IT TO CALIFORNIA FOR THE RECALIBRATING TO BE DONE TO THE SEAT. THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT DUE TO AN ACCIDENT THE IMPACT JARS THE SEAT CONNECTION AND CAUSES CODES AND THAT THE LIGHT WILL STILL ILLUMINATE WHEN IT CAME BACK AND IT IS. HE SAID I HAVE TO PAY SOME $600.00 TO GET SOMETHING REPAIRED AND THE ATTORNEY ADVISED AGAINST ME PAYING THAT IS NOT MY FAULT. THE ATTORNEY FOR THE CLASS ACTION ALREADY TOLD ME HYUNDAI IS COMING UP WITH ALL KINDS OF REASONS; EVEN THE INSPECTOR THEY SENT SEEMED BIASED FOR THE COMPANY. THE ATTORNEY ALSO STATED THAT THE CAR IS UNDER RECALL AND IF THE LIGHT IS ON WHATEVER THEY SAY DOESN'T MATTER THAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER ME SOMETHING UNDER THE SETTLEMENT AND THEY ARE NOT. THE VISOR ON MY CAR HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS NOW. AT FIRST IT WAS JUST ANNOYING WHILE DRIVING BUT I FEEL IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN NOW. THE VISOR STAYS UP BY KEVLAR BUT I NEED TO REDO IT SINCE THE PLASTIC THREADS ARE NO LONGER HOLDING IT TOGETHER. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO HOLD THE VISOR WITH MY LEFT HAND BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER DESIGNED THE VISOR BADLY. ON A SUNNY DAY THE VISOR WON'T STAY IN THE POSITION PLACED BUT STAYS IN A VERTICAL POSITION, BLOCKING MY SIGHT. ALSO, THE CUP HOLDER DESIGN IS HORRIBLE. THE AFTERMARKET CUP HOLDERS WON'T EVEN FIT INSIDE. ONLY LARGE DIAMETER CUPS CAN BE HELD SECURELY. STANDARD CUPS ARE NOT HELD SECURE. I NEED TO BE CONSCIOUS OF WHERE THE CUP IS WHEN DRIVING. MY CAR (HYUNDAI SONATA 2006) WAS TRAVELING THE INTERSECTION WITH A GREEN LIGHT. THE OTHER CAR WAS TRAVELING THE INTERSECTION WITH A RED LIGHT, AND DID STRIKE THE DRIVER SIDE OF MY CAR.
