TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO ACCELERATE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT SMELLED A STRONG FUEL ODOR. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
MY WIFE AND I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA IN LATE 2010. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL RECALLS BUT NONE OF THEM HAVE BEEN RELATED TO A STEERING AND SUSPENSION PROBLEM WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING. A VIBRATION SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE AND THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES A POPPING NOISE WHEN ROCKING IT BACK AND FORTH. THERE IS AN INCREASED VIBRATION/SHAKING AT 70 MPH OR HIGHER SPEEDS IN THE STEERING/SUSPENSION WITHOUT MUCH VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT IS GETTING WORSE.
SHAKING IN STEERING... (THOUGHT IT WAS BALL JOINTS - METAL TO METAL)... TOLD THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH BALL JOINTS & NO OTHER ISSUES DETERMINED (WITH THEIR TEST DRIVE). LOCAL HYUNDAI SERVICE MANAGER WOULD NOT RETURN REPEATED CALLS FOR COMPLAINT. VERY DISAPPOINTED NOW THAT "FACTORY WARRANTY & RECALL FOR STEERING PROBLEM" NOT WORTHY OF REPAIR AT THAT TIME. VIOLENTLY SHAKING NOW AND HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAYS IT IS NOT PART OF A STEERING RECALL (PREVIOUSLY PATCHED)... SAID IT IS A STEERING COUPLING (NOT THE U JOINT WHICH WAS PART OF THE RECALL).
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE CONSUMED ENGINE OIL IN EXCESS AND THERE WAS OIL COMING OUT OF THE EXHAUST PIPE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE AND THE ROD BEARING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE STEERING COLUMN IS MAKING A CLICKING NOISE..I CALLED HYUNDAI TO SEE WAS IT A RECALL ON IT BIT WAS TOLD IT HAD ALREADY BEED FIXED.BUT AFTER TWO MONTHS IT STARTED MAKING THE CLICKING NOISE...SO IF IT WAS ALREADY FIXED.WHY IS THE PROBLEM IS STILL ONGOING....CAN IT BE A LEMON...OR JUST A SERIOUS DEFECT THAT JUST KEEP HAPPEN..THEN I LOOKED IT UP ON LINE AND IT SAID THE STEERING WHEEL CAN COME DETACHED FROM THE COLUMN....AND I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO GET IT FIXED...CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP BEFORE ME OR MY FAMILY IS HURT OR KILLED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V434000 (POWER TRAIN). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I RECEIVED A FACEBOOK MESSAGE FROM HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA THAT MY 2011 SONATA HAD BEEN RECALLED UNDER HYUNDAI CAMPAIGN 123/NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V-434 FOR A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE CABLE CONNECTING THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH TO THE SHIFT LEVER PIN. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH RED MCCOMBS HYUNDAI NORTHWEST IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS. WHEN I BROUGHT MY SONATA IN FOR SERVICE, THE SERVICE ADVISER, [XXX] , INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. LATER, IN THE MAIL, I RECEIVED AN IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL, NHTSA CAMPAIGN 14V-434. SO NOW I AM UNSURE WHETHER OR NOT MY HYUNDAI SONATA IS UNDER RECALL. PLEASE ADVISE. I BROUGHT MY 2011 SONATA INTO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR AN OIL CHANGE. THE SERVICE ASSOCIATE EXPLAINED THAT MY STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AS IT WAS MAKING A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNED LEFT OR RIGHT. I INQUIRED AS TO WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS AND THEY DID NOT KNOW. THEY WROTE UP AN ESTIMATE TO HAVE THE STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REPLACED. THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO GET THIS REPAIRED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE AS THIS WAS A SAFETY HAZARD. IF THIS IS INDEED A SAFETY PROBLEM I THINK THAT HYUNDAI NEEDS TO RECALL THESE MODELS AND FIX THEM. *TR
THE STEERING COLUMN FEELS AS THOUGH IT WILL FALL OFF ANY MOMENT AND THE NOISE IS CLUNKING AND RATTLES TERRIBLY WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS OR ANY SLIGHT MOMENT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD CAUSE A FATALITY. *TR
LEFT AND RIGHT TAILLIGHT ASSEMBLIES FALLING OUT OF TAILLIGHT HOUSING/CAR BODY. METAL TAILLIGHT BOLTS NO LONGER SECURED IN PLASTIC TAILLIGHT ASSEMBLY. PLASTIC TAILLIGHT HOUSING "CRUMBLING" WHERE TAILLIGHT BOLTS ARE AFFIXED INTO HOUSING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE THAT CAME FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V457000 (STEERING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
I WENT TO PLACE THE CAR IN REVERSE AND NOTICED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER SAID R BUT THE DASH BOARD HAD A 0 . THE VEHICLE WENT INTO DRIVE PLACED ON THE BRAKES PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK. THE DISPLAY ON THE DASH STILL SHOWED 0. I SHUT OFF THE MOTOR AND RE-STARTED THE MOTOR AND THE DASH INDICATED THAT THE CAR WAS IN PARK. I THEN WENT ON LINE AND SAW THERE WAS A RECALL JUST ISSUED FOR THIS. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM HYUNDAI. *TR
THE DOORS ON THIS SONATA DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. THEY DO NOT STAY OPEN WHILE RIDERS EXIT THE VEHICLE, AND SWING BACK AND CLOSE, EASILY AND FORCEFULLY, OF THEIR OWN ACCORD. THIS IS NOT A RARE OCCURRENCE. IT HAPPENS OFTEN. WE HAVE HAD A TOTAL OF THREE CHILDREN, AGES 11-15, HAVE THEIR FINGERS SMASHED IN THE DOORS A TOTAL OF FIVE TIMES SINCE BUYING THE VEHICLE IN 2011. TWO OF THOSE SMASHED FINGERS RESULTED IN OPEN BREAKS THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION.
OIL CHANGED 1-1.5 MONTHS AGO. ON 8/5/14 WHILE DRIVING HOME THE CAR STARTED HAVING A TICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE MOTOR AND THE OIL LIGHT QUICKLY FLASHED BUT THEN WENT AWAY. MADE A RIGHT TURN AND THERE WAS A SQUEALING NOISE FOLLOWED BY A LOUD BOOM. CAR THEN BEGAN TO HAVE A CLUNK COMING FROM THE MOTOR AND WOULD STUTTER LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO STALL OUT. CHECKED THE OIL AND THERE WAS NOT MUCH IN THE MOTOR. NO OIL LEAKS. CAR IS PARKED AT THE SAME PLACE ALL THE TIME WHILE AT WORK AND HOME, NO OIL MARKS LEFT WHERE CAR IS PARKED. 2 QUARTS OF BRAND NEW OIL PUT INTO CAR (CAR WAS NOT DRIVEN AFTER THIS HAPPENED-BROUGHT OIL TO THE LOW OIL MARK ON THE DIP STICK) THE NEXT DAY AND CAR WAS TOWED TO FAULKNER HYUNDAI (PAXTON ST, HARRISBURG PA). CAR WAS RECEIVED AT DEALERSHIP BY 9:30 AM ON 8/7/14 BUT WAS NEVER LOOKED AT UNTIL THE FOLLOWING DAY. RECEIVED CALL FROM DEALERSHIP STATING THE NOISE WAS FROM COMING FROM THE BOTTOM PART OF THE MOTOR AND QUESTIONED WHEN MY LAST OIL CHANGE WAS STATING "THERE WAS VERY LITTLE OIL IN THE CAR AND IT WAS VERY DIRTY." FIRST RED FLAG CONSIDERING THAT WAS BRAND NEW OIL. HYUNDAI IS NOW TRYING TO NOT COVER THIS UNDER THE WARRANTY. THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE COMMON ON THIS VEHICLE FROM ALL THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE AND SHOULD PROBABLY BE RECALLED. HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A JOKE AS WELL AS THEIR VEHICLES. AND THEIR "AMERICA'S BEST WARRANTY" IS A GIMMICK TO GET PEOPLE TO BUY THESE POLISHED PIECES OF CRAP AND MORE THAN LIKELY WILL NOT BE HONORED. STILL WAITING TO HEAR FROM HYUNDAI ON A QUOTE FOR THE REPAIRS AND IF THE WARRANTY WILL COVER IT. *TR

THE VEHICLE MAKES A CLICKING NOISE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED IN EITHER DIRECTION ESPECIALLY WHEN PARKING. IT CAN ALSO BE HERD AND FELT WHEN DRIVING OVER UNEVEN SURFACES. THERE'S A LOOSENESS IN THE STEERING THAT IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER TIME. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE STEERING FLEX COUPLING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT IT'S NOT COVERED BY ANY RECALLS. DURING MY RESEARCH OF THIS ISSUE I DISCOVERED AN ALARMING AMOUNT OF 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE WHICH TELLS ME THIS HAS TO BE A DEFECT. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO ISSUE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL ON THESE STEERING FLEX COUPLINGS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I WAS BACKING MY CAR OUT OF A PARKING SPACE WHEN THE CAR ABRUPTLY STOPPED (AS IF I HAD HIT SOMETHING) JERKING THE CAR AND CAUSING THE CAR TO STALL / ENGINE TO DIE. I NOTICED THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WENT BLANK AND THEN A FEW LIGHTS CAME ON; BUT THE LIGHTS FOR THE LETTERS ON THE GEAR SHIFT WAS BLANK. THE CAR WAS ABLE TO BE PLACED IN PARK AND AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES THE CAR STARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. I NOTICED A SIMILAR COMPLAINT FROM JULY 16,2011. FROM SUGARLOAF, PA. THIS IS ALMOST WORD FOR WORD EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO MY CAR! *TR
HELLO, I'M NOT SURE IF THIS QUALIFIES, BUT THIS VEHICLE HAS A MAJOR DEFECT IN THE COMPRESSOR KICKING ON FOR AIR CONDITIONING (PER MY OWN EXPERIENCE AND EXAMINING FORUMS OF OTHER USERS). THE A/C DOES NOT COME ON INTERMITTENTLY, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE CAR HASN'T BEEN TURNED ON FOR 3 OR 4 HOURS. THIS CAN BE A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN IN WARM AREAS. *TR
THERE IS A LOUD CLICKING SOUND WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED TO THE LEFT OR THE RIGHT. IT STARTED SUBTLE (I.E. NOT AS LOUD ). THEN WITHIN A FEW WEEKS, THE CLICKING NOISE IS VERY NOTICEABLE. IT IS LOUD, AND IT OCCURS EVERY TIME IT IS DRIVEN. IT OCCURS IN PARK, AT LOW MPH - AT HIGHER MPH, AS OF NOW, IT SEEMS TO BE THE MORE SUBTLE SOUND. AFTER RESEARCHING, MY 2011 MODEL IS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL THAT OVER 100,000 2011 SONATAS ARE IN. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO INCLUDE ALL 2011 SONATA'S IN THE RECALL. IT IS UNFAIR CAR MANUFACTURERS DO NOT INCLUDE ALL MODELS, WHEN NOW IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE (OFFICIAL COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE BY PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF). RESEARCH SHOWS PEOPLE ARE REPAIRING AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE - AND ALSO MANY CARS ARE IN TERRIBLE ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I NOTICED A SOUND AS IF MY FENDER WAS RATTLING AS I DROVE ON THE HWY, UPON REACHING HOME I INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THE CLIPS ATTACHING THE BUMPER TO THE FENDER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HAD FAILED. I WILL BE BRINGING IT TO THE ATTENTION OF HYUNDAI. I FEEL IF IT HAPPENS ON THE OTHER SIDE THE COMPLETE BUMPER WILL COME OFF AS I DRIVE. *TR

MY 2011 SONATA JUST STOPPED ONE DAY, WITH NO WARNING. NO LIGHTS CAME ON, I CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, KEY HYUNDAI IN MILFORD, CT TOOK 3 DAYS TO GET BACK TO ME, AND TOLD ME THAT MY ENGINE SEIZED DUE TO LACK OF OIL. I HAD OIL IN MY CAR, THEY SAID THAT SLUDGE IS IN THE ENGINE BECAUSE I DID NOT KEEP MY REGULAR SCHEDULE OIL CHANGE WITH THEM. I CHECK MY OIL! BUT WHY DIDN'T THE CAR ALERT ME? WHY DIDN'T THE OIL LIGHT COME ONE AND TELL ME SOMETHING WAS WRONG? FACTORY WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER THE CAR EVEN THOUGH I SHOWN PROOF OF DOING OIL CHANGE ELSE WHERE. STEERING COLUMN BEGAN MAKING NOISE WHEN TURNING EITHER DIRECTION. THERE WAS LOOSENESS IN THE COLUMN THAT PROGRESSIVELY BECAME MORE PRONOUNCED OVER TIME. ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2014,I CONTACTED THE LOCAL HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER BY PHONE AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED IN THE PUBLISHED STEERING COLUMN-RELATED RECALL FOR THE 2011 SONATA. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY WIFE'S CAR HOME FROM WORK AND STOPPED BY A GAS STATION FOR A DRINK. I CAME BACK TO THE CAR AND STARTED IT UP. AS I WAS ENGAGING IN GEAR, I NOTICED THE SHIFT INDICATOR ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE SHIFTER WAS MISSING. I PUT THE CAR BACK IN PARK, KILLED THE MOTOR AND RESTARTED. IT REAPPEARED, BUT BRIEFLY. AS I PUT IT IN DRIVE, I FELT A VIOLENT JERKING MOTION FROM THE GEARBOX; THEN THE DREADED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REARED ITS UGLY HEAD. I DROVE TO THE NEAREST AUTO PARTS STORE TO HAVE A GUY PULL THE CODE(S) FOR ME. IT WAS A FAILING PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) THAT WAS GIVING ME DRIVETRAIN ISSUES. IN REGARDS TO ELECTRICAL, WHENEVER MY WIFE (OR ANYONE ELSE) RIDE IN THE PASSENGER SIDE, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TURN ON WHENEVER I MAKE HARD LEFT TURNS. INTERESTING :-/. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH HANKOOK OPTIMO H431 TIRES, SIZE 225/45R18V. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED FOR AN OIL CHANGE, THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED A BUBBLE ON THE SIDEWALL AND PART OF THE TREAD OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MADE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO NOTIFY THE MANUFACTURER, BUT HE DID NOT RECEIVE A RETURN PHONE CALL. THE TIRE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AND THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
ENGINE SEIZED AND I HAD IT REPLACED AT A COST OF$3,620.04. AS PER THE AGREEMENT THEY MADE REGARDING THE ENGINE FAILING DUE TO METAL OBJECTS BEING IN THE ENGINE THAT WAS THEIR FAULT, THEY WOULD REIMBURSE OWNERS FOR THIS COST. I HAVE BEEN WAITING OVER 6 MONTHS AND WHEN I CALLED, THEY STALLED BY REQUESTING ME TO PROVE I OWNED THE VEHICLE BY SUBMITTING MY REGISTRATION OR INSURANCE FOR THE VEHICLE. I TRADED IN THE VEHICLE LAST FALL AND DO NOT HAVE THE ITEMS ANYMORE . MY NAME IS ON THE BILL I PAID FOR THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT, THIS IS JUST ANOTHER WAY THEY CAN TRY TO NOT PAY EVEN THEY AGREED TO PAY.THE ENGINE FAILED AT THE SAVANNAH AIRPORT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AROUND 10 MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY WITH TRAFFIC ALL THE LIGHTS ON DASH BOARD LIT UP AND THE CAR JUST TURNED OFF. HE WAS CONNECTED WITH A CASE MANAGER BY THE NAME OF MERRIETA. SHE TOOK NOTES OF THE INCIDENT AND ADVISED HIM TO HAVE THE CAR SENT TO THE NEAREST HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FOR AN INVESTIGATION. WAS LEAVING A LAKEFRONT BEACH ON A DUSTY DIRT ROAD GOING VERY SLOW BECAUSE OF ALL THE CARS PARKED AROUND ON A ONE LANE ROAD LEAVING THE BEACH. HAD NOT GONE MORE THAN 50 FT WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT SOUNDED LIKE WE RAN OVER SOMETHING THAT MAY HAVE DAMAGED THE UNDERNEATH.
